Keep thinking about Gortash, my enemy whose allies I have killed and who has personally ruined the lives of multiple people tav cares about, meeting me in person for the first time and immediately being like “do you want to be allies and equally share power from my evil plan :)” and I was like hmmm well even if I agree temporarily we will definitely end up betraying each other but I rolled insight anyway, succeeded, and the game was like “no he’s totally actually down to co-rule this city with you”

Article: What the Staatsballett Berlin Case Tells Us About the Power of Artistic Staff
Date: December 16, 2020
By: Theresa Ruth Howard
As Staatsballett Berlin's Chloé Lopes Gomes—the sole Black female dancer with the company—has shared the shameful and blatant discrimination she says she endured at the hands of an unnamed, tenured ballet mistress, it could be seen as the salvo announcing a second wave of the racial reckoning ballet experienced in the summer. After the pure rage and incredulity wanes (although are we really surprised?), if we take a moment to look deeper, we can learn a great deal about the current landscape of ballet relative to diversity, equity and inclusion today.
Whitening a Dancer's Skin
What struck a particularly painful chord with dancers of color around the world is Gomes' allegation of being asked to whiten her skin for Swan Lake. This practice of painting or powdering the skin white for classical full-length works is less a norm in the U.S., but still prevalent in European companies.
Though relatively antiquated, it is an aesthetic tradition, and thus normalized. Originally devised to give the female dancers an otherworldly appearance, and perhaps to create an added level of uniformity, this made perfect sense when all the dancers were white. When there are dancers of other races, and particularly of darker complexions, the once seemingly innocent practice suddenly doubles down on the otherness. Depending on the dancer's complexion, it rarely aids in making her fit in. Rather it renders the dancer an awkward eyesore, gray and bizarre.
There is no worse feeling than having to go onstage knowing you look ridiculous, and because this whitening does not cover up the Blackness, it sets up the binary of white/good/correct vs Black/bad/wrong. It makes Blackness an unsolvable problem in ballet.
Though on the wane, this powdering and the use of period wigs are standard at European companies which have entire departments specializing in their construction and care. Seemingly harmless, heritage relics, these practices serve to remind Black and brown dancers that this was a form crafted in their absence, and companies are uninterested in adjusting for their presence. The same is true for exhaustive debates about blackface and yellowface, racialized makeup techniques and racially problematic ballets, like La Bayadère and Petrushka. These are aspects of the classical ballet aesthetic that represent the overt ways in which systematic racism results in the exclusion that's present, telegraphing ballet's commitment to whiteness.
A Point of Contradiction
We live in a time when being an "international" company refers to a roster more than their touring reach. Many take pride in their multiculturalism and yet have given little to no thought towards developing the cultural competence to honor this diversity represented in their dancers. There is an unspoken belief that the overarching shared culture is ballet itself, which has the power to bring order to the Towers of Babble of the studio. We all speak "ballet" and have been socialized by its culture, which places a person's value on their body and performance. When thoroughly socialized, both who and what you are have been sufficiently muted as you are absorbed literally into the corps de ballet.
And when it comes to the dancing, that may be true. However, each dancer is living a full life outside of the studio, off of the stage, within the organization, and this is where being seen, heard and acknowledged as a full human would be helpful.
The culture says to dancers, "You should be grateful that you are allowed in." Dancers are infantilized, like delicate crystal figurines in a menagerie. Although they are not fragile, they are the most vulnerable in the organizations, going to work with the clear understanding that they are replaceable.
The Silent Sentinel
The artistic director may sit at the pinnacle of the hierarchy in a ballet company, holding the responsibility of determining the overall aesthetic and repertory with the hiring of dancers and choreographers. However, it is the artistic staff members—like ballet masters—who act as the ultimate gatekeepers, charged with manifesting the vision, and maintaining the standard of the company. They have the most daily contact with the dancers, controlling their existences in the scheduling and management of classes and rehearsals.
The amount of power an artistic staff member has is predicated on their relationship with the director and their leadership style. With directors who are hands-on, in the studio and highly communicative, there is clarity about what they want and the way they want it. But under those directors who are less connected to the day-to-day machinations, members of the staff are left to intuit what is desired. In both cases, the staff lead through an amalgam of their personal tactics and methods, preferences and biases.
As the gate between dancer and director, under the guise that they come from above, artistic staff members can sometimes enact various forms of psychological abuse. For dancers who exercise agency, crossing or confronting a ballet master can result in retaliation like verbal belittling or intimidation, and being presented as a "problem" to the director, affecting casting and ultimately their career trajectory.
In this way, it is sadly common for artistic staff members to create unsafe work environments. They can act with impunity because they are highly trusted members of the court; they sit to the right and left of the sovereign, thus have both ears. Like Othello's Iago, they have the ability to twist words and situations, impose their personal preferences, both to the director and to guest choreographers. They wield an immense amount of power.
The more adroit they are, the higher their stature, the more leeway they are afforded. Bad behavior or complaints are ignored or covered up because their acumen is seen as more valuable than their offenses harmful. Why? Because ballet values the art over all. Since the culture is more concerned with the product than the process, artistic teams' methods often go unchecked. This is what we see in the Staatsballett case, with the caveat that in some European systems these artistic positions are government jobs, a benefit of which is lifetime appointment. (However, it should be noted that the Staatsballett ballet mistress could have been reassigned to a nonartistic position.)
Under the guise of respecting boundaries, the culture of ballet has a blind-eye, closed-mouth, "It's not my place" rule when it comes to abusive or improper behaviors. This supports toxicity within the culture and allows artistic staff and faculty members to become silent terrorists within an organization. Think Nurse Ratchet in dance sneakers.
Gomes' alleged story illustrates this power dynamic with frightening clarity. Although she says she had the support of co-artistic director Johannes Öhman, she was at the daily mercy of the ballet mistress. Gomes has stated that although the interim artistic director Christine Theobald did not support the practice of whiting up, because the ballet mistress was in charge of rehearsals, it left her no choice. Often the influence the artistic staff hold in ballet companies positions them as potentially the single most intractable cultural impediments to diversification.
This is a ubiquitous reality in the field, both in companies and in schools. For some, there is pride in being immovable in the commitment to the classical tradition even when its white supremacist roots are laid out before them. They are good soldiers who, even when their director's aperture has broadened, hold fast, committed to seeing the mission out to its end. They believe their self-righteousness and elitism only make them better at their jobs.
Although we are beginning to see some forward motion with the training pipelines diversifying, more dancers of color (specifically Black) onstage, more choreographers of color being engaged—we are even seeing the normalization of conversations about race in organizations—we will be running in place if ballet leadership does not hold itself accountable. Organizational values, mission statements, three- to five-year strategic plans, diversity training, book clubs, talking circles and social media posts mean precious little when you are content to bear witness and are inactive or silent.
If we are truly working towards the evolution of ballet, then the value system of "art above all" will have to change. We will have to put people first, and adopt a zero-tolerance policy against artistic and racial terrorism. It's time for some of the old guard to be relieved of duty.

Wayhem actually crying about not getting to hang out with Adrien
oh Adrien also missed a fencing lesson?
'I can't deceive my Dad like that!'
PLAGG never change but I can't understand anything you say in french
Nathalie just having to go be in Japan and handle Gabe's job with only a fake hologram boyfriend for company
The Butterflies are some independent thing? What even are miraculous?
Gabe wearing beekeeper stuff? like are the butterflies dangerous? is it just to make him look like a rich guy with weird hobbies?
Gabe just raising butterflies and making promises to his coma wife while Nathalie does Tokyo fashion week by herself
Why does Gabe have to stay behind for this weekend? Obviously one of Nath and Gabe have to stay in Paris to protect Emilie at all times, but why does Gabe get to go to a royal wedding while Nath has to do the work?
So did Nino draw those Gabe, Nath, Gorilla drawings?
OMG Nino's Signature and little doodle :)
THE GIRLS MUST NOT KNOW!
but why? for Adrien!
Nathaniel and Marc being a part of Nino's excuse for Max is an obvious weak point so they were probably informed earlier and are in on the plan but don't have to be with nino for him to keep an eye on them?
Rose being like, why did Kim message me?
Did only Ivan agree to do this and then all the guys preemptively sent can't come messages?
Did only Mylene think to actually prewarn her boy that there was an event?
Did the boys agree to go, with the plan to ditch for the party?
Why did the event they were lying to get out of have to be volunteer labour work?
like the guys, having a giant party, the girls, heavy lifting volunteer work
No one texted Marinette :(
Marinette already on the case before the guys are in the house
Why does Marinette even do this? It's only so LB is there for the fight
the Gorilla would betray Gabe for action figures
The cut with the three action figures
oh yes the PROJECT
THE GROUP HUG!
Adrien sees his friend be sad for 0.2 sec, okay I can deceive my dad
Kim instantly finds the bath
The god damn piano
Marinette quietly joking about being LB on the train and Tikki is done
Nino: if you answer Marinette will know what's up. Marinette: knows what's up even if you don't answer
Adrien: but why can't the girls know? Nino: fails to adequately explain gendered social structures in only two sentences
Adrien: wait are you saying Marinette's not even my friend?
Adrien keeps his mother's records at his bedside
The glitter on the rainbow record
Nino complaining that it's not loud enough when the extra sound is already enough to decrease my ability to understand the french
'My dad does every thing to the max' you don't say
Agrest Mansion vs Couffaine House Boat
That elevator, I love it
Nooroo just hovering around Gabe the entire ep
The coffin room also has a giant window? That is actually just a light that fakes the sun? There are like statues on the walls?
Max and Markov just accidently took Emilie off life support, like Adrien has one party and his mother dies
There is a giant hole in that fence that Marinette could climb thorugh
What is this photo shoot for? Is it for the Ladybug movie? What?
Jagged Stone entering Adrien's bedroom like he's GODDAMN LADYBUG IN A LADRIEN FIC, the alligator also joins
Where is Kim bonding with Fang?
Luka, Marinette and Wayhem are the only age appropriate guests to arrive for the rest of the party
So why isn't Chloe bothering Sabrina with this?
Andre's magical love icecream is at this party
The weird glitch effect of the party getting bigger cuts
The BANANA, The banana swinging from the chandelier
Marinette just casually cosplaying the sixth band member
Marinot
heehehihi, je veux dire HOHOHOHOoo
Master Fu brought all the miraculous into Hawkmoth's house
WTF this ep
not even master Fu can recognise Marinette
Grown adults at this party sad for 0.2 secs, Adrien: Here's exactly what you need right here!
Kim's so good
reminded himself of the water and right back in
Mixture of almost heroic/ominous Papillon, him braking the glass
nice seeing him in different environments
Party crasher, so majestic
gorilla making the figurines kiss
they all instantly laugh at Party Crasher for some reason?
oh hey there was a background teen too
so I went back and like the background teens are just lying on Adrien's bed and maybe on the couch
Party crasher exists only to turn the power back on but also gets so close to winning
Why does Gabe move back to the attic? why? do his powers work better there?
what does the beam weapon do?
Adrien riding around on Wayhem's shoulders
wait the beam power is just as good as touching with the disco balls what the hell? He's too powerful!!!
Why does he let Carapace give his full speech? what ever
Their faces when they disappear! :(
Kim is still swimming
hit the pinata to save the day!
Ahh their terrible dancing, the heroes of Paris
Viperion: draw me like one of your french girls
Wayhem died his hair?
Nino: SO maybe I shouldn't have lied to have a guys night with Adrien. Marinette: Are you kidding it's totally fine to lie when it's for Adrien
Is Adrien just walking them to the gate or is he actually leaving the house to spend time with his friends?
Gabe's plan for this weekend must be pretty important that he didn't at least call Adrien to repremand him
Adrien needs to know that he can't play with the house's power grid
and Gabe finding out about this party, I don't think it would wreak the story that he's still in Japan

Babylonia Section 15~Section 16
Day 2 of the queue with the turning point of the story is here! Definitely a challenging one since this is way before a certain class kicks to deal with Avenger class. Though they are one thing... Another enemy that shows up in the near end is another! Anyway, let’s start!
Tumblr media
Section 15
With Gilgamesh’s soul back to his body along with the people in Uruk, Ana welcomed us back... A new change of look? Guess she finally outgrown her fear of humans a little :)
Oh? Seems like everyone is rejoicing at the return of their king! Third return... Someone been into hell too much back and forth... Oh hey, the Gudas even their model done after saving the King’s soul!
Now that we left 2 days... Time to start the meeting against Gorgon’s attack. Siduri is making sure you’re finishing your work here so that’s a role of king for ya.
100k of hundred beasts marching towards the city tomorrow.. Half a day is given for us to enter Gorgon’s temple, so a limited time to finish her while Uruk is dealing with the beast. Ah, the axe has finally arrived as well! That should take care of the bounded field!
Expected of Quetz to be able to throw that giant axe! But the rules are still in effect by their alliance... That’s a nasty burn to you Gilgamesh from Quetz herself! She has a point of your missing golden armor from your archer counterpart. Good point, Doctor Roman, despite his behavior... It’s amazing how Ozzy and him got along
Oh Merlin will take care of the axe to the temple?! Seems like we need to sneak in there with Merlin... Hm? The red cloth? Guess it’s a way to grab the axe too from Quetz! One last repeat of the procedure, we’ll be facing the King once more for a final warm up battle!
Tumblr media
Geez... I’m thankful the EXP cards but no need for a fight! While Gilgamesh remains in Uruk, Kingu is really an opponent not to be underestimated since he has the grail...
With Merlin bidding farewell to Gilgamesh and us to the people in Uruk, we’ve got one last feast to enjoy before the decisive battle. And... An old lady... Because of Ana’s effort in helping the shop despite her condition... Even keeping her alive knowing what happened in the last 2 chapters previously...
A flower wreath for everyone in Chaldean Embassy... Damn it, I’m about to cry but not yet, because the feels are only the beginning!
One night rest later, time to head to the temple... Bidding farewell one last time to the gatekeeper. Damn Merlin! I don’t know if it’s illusion but that’s one carriage for everyone!
And of course the trip to Northen temple involves bandits trying to kill us all!
Tumblr media
One heck of a ride later, we arrived with all pieces of our body and soul intact. While everyone went to rest.... Looks like we meet up with Ana again, and a little more bonding with her. Also passing to her the flower wreath by the old lady to her... Ouch shit... Her grandchildren... And Ana for her grandchildren...
Seems like we meet Merlin along with Fou kicking his ass as usual. I picked the last one so it turns out he’s the one who sent Beddy back at Camelot Singularity. And well, we also get to learn a bit more about Merlin and his own views of humanity
The day has arrived with the beast finally invading Uruk... Time to head out to the blood fort!
Tumblr media
An hour passed since we fought, Kingu arrived with his army and heading to the Northen wall by Romani’s words. And at the same time there... They are trying their best to withhold the invasion as long as they could. Jaguar Warrior and Quetz engaged with Kingu in combat.... And shark-teeth faced is back!
Buying time to prevent Kingu from finding us, let’s head to the Cedar Forest!
Tumblr media
Looks like we arrived and...... I really wonder how Merlin raised his king at this point with that spell naming! And.... MERLIN THE BIGGEST FUCKING MORON COCK WIZARD OF ALL HISTORY, I’M SO GOING TO KILL YOU WHEN I GET TO AVALON FROM OUR DEATH!!!!!
.......... Bright side, the axe hits the gate..... Yeah Fou, let’s kick his ass after this. And crap, looks like Kingu is coming after us when we defeat Gorgon! I guess he and Gorgon shared something similar, Quetz?
Inside her lair... A demonic lair that really fits with cocoon for the next birth of demonic beasts.... Tch, damn it! At the face with her belly of the lair... She’s finally here!
No point in talking things out here, Mash. Considering by her legends and current motive... And Gorgon, as tempting as your roll is for tomorrow... I’m sticking with no. I’m not becoming your Master to destroy humanity!
And Ana... You’re... No, Medusa Lily... Are you sure? To fight with your older self... Another Shirou vs Archer fight from UBW with the stake of human history. Time to finish her once and for all!
Tumblr media
Unlimited defense only work AOE lasers like her! But definitely trying to outdo her curse damage the moment she fires her NP once!
Pretty much this is a solo Chloe fight with two Mash supporting her ^^;
Story wise, looks like Gorgon isn’t giving up till the end.... Wait Medusa!! Into the hole... And the last smile..... ANAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
............. Damn it... Both Ana and Gorgon died from a suicidal attack... Flower Wreath from a gift becomes an offering for her..... Wait, if Gorgon didn’t hold the grail with her.... Kingu! So he had the grail all this time, not only that... He’s ready for revenge without a doubt. And of course we’re not even happy we’re doing this! Tch... So no longer a Lancer but an Avenger like Gorgon...
Tumblr media
The worst one now without BB here to save the job. Especially RNG luck is praying he doesn’t charge his NP too quickly on this! Berserker still works but... Definitely still basing on RNG luck to deal with his unexpected NP charge!
Even after Gorgon’s defeat, the Singularity remains.... Woah what?! Space-time quake?!! MERLIN?! What... He... Merlin put the real Tiamat to sleep to prevent from awakening...?
As the seas turned black outside the lair, the skies turned dark... Okay, what the fuck DW?! WHAT THE HELL IS THAT CREEPY LOOKING THING!?!?!! Damn and it’s killing everyone again!
Damn it Merlin stay with us! Merlin!! MERLIN!!!! ............. Damn it so the real Tiamat awaken but.... MEEEERRRRRRRRLLLLLLLLIIIIIIIIINNNNNNNNN!!!!!!!
Tumblr media
Section 16
After escaping from there... Those things already invaded Persian Gulf by Romani’s words. Three hours before 20k of those reached Uruk...  Or 10k since the rest of the cities in Uruk has already been invaded
Merlin disappeared as Romani revealed... And died too since his true body was killed... Damn it after Gorgon’s death it awake her and killed him!
Reuniting with Quetz... Time to head back to Uruk quickly since those things are arriving faster than expected! And Merlin... Haish, one more trouble before his death.
In Ur, looks like they already began attacking... And turning them to their own kind! Benkei! Thank goodness he’s fine and thank god! Ur’s people is temporarily safe for now too. Huh? Benkei?! What the hell is that just now?!
Tch, even Uruk is on fire the moment we’re nearing! Okay you creepy little shits, now who wants a piece of me so you can stay away from the innocent people here!
Tumblr media
Yup... Who’s idea in DW that created this fucking thing! Buff removal is one, but defense down too really?!
I know it’s only fighting 3 times but.... WTF?!
Yup... Definitely endless at this rate! ...  OKay? They left? Well good thing, time for a breather to find Gilgamesh!
Definitely chaotic now with Gilgamesh trying to evacuate his people while fighting against those things... Seems like Gilgamesh knew about what happened too....
One report later... Solomon was the one who had brought forth Tiamat again huh...  Seems like the Evils of Humanity finally revealed here on this seventh Singularity and the purpose for the Grand Servants.
And those things... Okay fuck that, no adult stage please. This isn’t a pokemon isn’t it?! Lahmu who is Tiamat’s first child meaning mud of what they are... Well Ishtar, our Doctor may be an adorable goofball. But he does his job well! Gilgamesh on the other hand... Anyway!
Gilgamesh, where’s Siduri?
........... So, she got kidnapped by the Lahmu from the people she was protecting... I see why Gilgamesh refused to brought that up... BUT YOU FUCKING MORON! WE’RE GOING TO SAVE HER NO MATTER WHAT!!
Tumblr media
And geez make up your mind, are we your people or what?
Late at night with Kingu... Seems like a certain King of Mages is here in a way to mess things up even more.... And yeah, seems like not only him, but Tiamat’s words and wishes are fishy at this point.
Another human killed before Kingu... Damn it, open yours eyes, Kingu! Tiamat and the Lahmus are really not to be trusted at this point!
I brought to you an important announcement that we’ll end here today. Fighting that disgusting thing questioned my sanity to finish this Singularity. Regardless, tomorrow will be another day with another post!

Superhero Spotlight: #SaveLucifer (Spoilers)
Tumblr media
One of the biggest shocks of 2018 so far is the announcement made at the end of last week that Fox have cancelled Lucifer after 3 seasons. Not only was this a shock for fans but also to the cast including star Tom Ellis who started the #SaveLucifer campaign. So I thought I would offer my reasons as to why the cancellation is a mistake and also offer my suggestions to Fox for where they can take the show going forward.
Also as a disclaimer, this post will have spoilers for the entirety of the show so if you haven’t see the series finale of Lucifer, don’t read on.
Reasons to #SaveLucifer:
#1. Tom Ellis is Fantastic in the Role
Tumblr media
Like many Brits who have watched this show, I knew of Tom Ellis in British TV roles prior to this such as EastEnders, Merlin and most notably Miranda. So prior to becoming the devil, he was diverse in both comedy and drama, however nothing to this level.
Lucifer as a character is charismatic, charming, hilarious and relatable as someone who is a genuinely honest person and essentially a fish out of water as of course he is used to either Heaven or Hell. All of that is obviously partly down to the writers but mostly down to Tom Ellis’ acting as he is almost unrecognizable in this role compared to those previously mentioned roles.
I think the difference is with roles like EastEnders and Miranda, he is playing the typical “nice guy” and with Merlin he was a stereotypical “arc villain”, but as Lucifer Morningstar, he is a fully-rounded, complex character and that, I feel, is why the show works at its core, because of Tom Ellis’ acting.
#2. A Different Type of Comic-Book TV Show
Believe it or not, Lucifer is based on DC Comics! Officially the Vertigo imprint of DC Comics but Lucifer Morningstar is a supporting character of The Sandman, who is a creation of Neil Gaiman. Now yes, Lucifer in the comics is blonde, Gothic and has different adventures to what he has in the show, but the very fact Lucifer is officially based on a comic-book property makes it a very different type of comic-book show compared to the likes of the Arrowverse shows or even the Marvel Netflix shows.
Because of this it is in a unique space of being a relief to both fans and non-fans of comic-book shows that may be finding the genre saturated at this point with the same type of show.
The only powers featured in Lucifer are divine powers which are either the effects of heavenly weapons or flight. Also the show is in that unique position of not needing special effects or powers because that isn’t what the primary focus of the series is.
#3. A Lovable Cast
Tumblr media
Aside from Tom Ellis, this show has one of the best supporting cast in any show currently out there. I would list my MVPs but I do really like them all; I didn’t care much for Kevin Ranklin as Malcolm Graham in the first season but other than that I have loved watching all of these characters and obviously the acting is a huge part of that.
My two favourites aside from Tom Ellis are Lesley-Ann Brandt and Rachel Harris as both were just so compelling to watch whether with Mazikeen’s bad-ass nature or the journey of Linda discovering Lucifer’s true identity.
Also Scarlett Estevez who portrayed Dan and Chloe’s daughter Trix was fantastic, for a child actor (she was seven at the start of the series so by now she must be 9/10) to steal a fair few amount of scenes without diminishing the roles of the other actors is a gift, this girl I see a great future for if she pursues this as a career.
#4. Equality for Both Genders
There is a slight imbalance in genders as there has been one more female main cast member than male, but that’s not to say they push a feminist agenda or even make it about girl power like Supergirl. In fact the cast is very well-balanced both in terms of gender roles and ethnic diversity.
Also the victims and culprits every week or story have an equal mixture in both male and female showing that anyone can be a murder victim and anyone can be a murderer if given the right motive.
#5. Inventive and Creative Plots
So yes it is essentially a police drama with a divine twist but that is not to say that every episode has that formulaic “murderer of the week” angle, in fact while a lot of the cases are a simple murder investigation plot, the story around said plot is what becomes inventive and creative.
Tumblr media
For example, in Season 2 there is one episode where Azrael’s blade is the murder weapon, Azrael’s blade is a divine weapon originally owned by the Angel of Death which forms the Flaming Sword when combined with a medallion and a key that Amenadiel always wears around his neck. In its debut episode, “The Sword of Death” is wielded by mere mortals which brings their inner anger to the surface and causes a mass stabathon.
This was inventive because it was the first and really only time that a weapon of the divine had been used by mortals without anyone aside from the divine realizing what the weapon was.
Tumblr media
Which brings me on nicely to the series-long plot of Lucifer’s true identity, this was a very creative plot because...he was completely honest about who he was from the very first episode. Every opportunity Lucifer had to refer to himself as “the devil” he took it, even some random prostitute calling him “the devil” and him going “you have no idea”. The greatest part of this entire plot was that it took 3 seasons and 55 episodes for Chloe Dekker, who was the secondary protagonist and Lucifer’s main love interest, to finally realise that Lucifer was in fact the devil. How was this revealed? His devil face finally returned after a season-long arc of losing said face and Chloe finally saw it.
Honestly, and no disrespect to blondes, but Dekker is the definition of a stereotypical dumb blonde because while she was brilliant as a detective, the woman had literally every other episode with Lucifer telling her who he is and yet, a lot like Linda used to do, she compartmentalized that into Lucifer using metaphors.
It has been a fantastic long-running plot because, again, with traditional comic-book superhero shows it’s all about protecting the hero’s identity, like on Arrow this season, yet here Lucifer makes no secret as to who he is it’s just a question of no one actually believing him.
#6. Responsible for Bringing Tom Welling Back
Tumblr media
This point was a personal bonus addition for me because I grew up in the noughties watching Smallville, which was the origins of Clark Kent becoming Superman, which starred Tom Welling in the main role of Clark Kent.
I was very happy when he was announced as a main character for the third season and hoped he would have a bigger role outside of just being Dekker and Dan’s lieutenant and fortunately he was. Not only was he the criminal known as the Sinnerman but also in a mid-season twist he was revealed to be Cain from the bible.
It has been great because to see Welling go from playing one of fiction’s greatest superheroes to supposedly the world’s first murderer shows a good range in acting from Welling despite the fact his two best-known TV roles are both with DC Comics.
Ideas for Future Seasons:
Alright so I have said why the series is so good, now I’m going to say why I think the series should come back with some suggestions for future plots.
#1. Introduce God
Tumblr media
We’ve met Lucifer, we’ve met Amenadiel, we’ve met their mum who I am going to call Goddess and we’ve met one of their other siblings Uriel, but where the hell is God himself. i’ll admit that I am an Atheist/inactive pagan so believing in a higher power or deity for me only applies to the Greek/Roman/Egyptian mythologies but in a show that deals with angels and demons I do want to see the king of angels as I have seen the king of demons.
Introducing God I did always feel would be an endgame for the series of the build up he has had but even if they brought the series back for a final season just to give the fans a feel of closure then to bring in God for that final season would be a great idea.
#2. Crossover With Other DC Shows
Tumblr media
Even though I know it is ending, I would really like Lucifer to crossover with the likes of Gotham because both shows have the same type of genre and both do not usually go so far into the comic-book genre that it becomes fantastical.
Failing that I would love Lucifer and Mazikeen to meet Constantine because Constantine is all about banishing demons and the next season of Legends of Tomorrow does seem to be a demon hunt so why not bring Mazikeen in for that?
#3. Crossover With Shadowhunters
Tumblr media
This is a personal favoured choice of mine but again much like Constantine, the Shadowhunters are all about destroying demons and with that in mind I would to see a full on fight between Mazikeen and Isabelle. I also think both Lucifer and Dan’s egos vs. Jace and Alec’s egos would be a fun battle to witness within itself. Think Star-Lord and Thor in Avengers: Infinity War.
Now I know people are probably going to say “What are you talking about? Shadowhunters is on a completely different network to Fox!” Yes well because Fox has dumped Lucifer, it makes sense for it to be picked up by another network, now with Shadowhunters I think being broadcast on ABC in America (If I am wrong correct me please) but being broadcast by Netflix worldwide, it does make sense just to move Lucifer from Amazon to Netflix.
Also in regards to the different networks, the Supernatural boys just had a comic-book crossover with Scooby Doo, I think this is doable.
#4. Show Heaven
Tumblr media
Quite simple for this one, we have seen Hell and purgatory but we have yet to actually see Heaven. Amenadiel took Charlotte to Heaven when she died in the penultimate episode but we never actually saw them go there, even just to have see them fly up towards it and see the golden gates or something would have at least maybe given us a tease for something potentially to come.
Also visiting Heaven would hopefully introduce God as I stated before but also allow for returning characters like Amenadiel and Charlotte but also, now that Chloe believes all this Heaven and Hell stuff, if Lucifer was to somehow take her there then she may be reunited with her dad which would make for a great dramatic and emotional scene.
#5. A War for the Earth
Tumblr media
Alright so this one is kind of a follow-on from the last one but also a throwback to the very first episode. Right at the end of the first episode in a conversation between Lucifer and Amenadiel about how Lucifer defying both their father and Amenadiel would start a war, something Amenadiel was okay with.
Now while Amenadiel is currently on side with Lucifer, that doesn’t mean God will start a war either with Lucifer, Earth or Hell to get what he wants, and that could be the main story-arc of Season 4...a war either between Heaven and Hell or a War for the Earth. After all, god supposedly created the Earth so logically he can also destroy it.
This doesn’t even have to be a series-long war like Arrow has been known for, it can simply be a villain of the week or couple of weeks and then God interjected at random moments in the season until the big confrontation at the end. Wars don’t just have to be physical they can also be intellectual.
Overall I think I have made some rather good arguments as to why Lucifer is a fantastic show, why it should remain and what the potential storylines could be. There are still talks about the show trying to find a new home so hopefully we will see it back. #SaveLucifer
So that’s my Superhero Spotlight on the current state of Lucifer and the possibility of it going forward, what do you guys think? Post your comments and check out more Superhero and Supervillain Spotlights as well as other posts.

Why can’t the world just be ruled by cabals of mighty librarian queens? Organizing to create policies, looking out for the marginalized, fighting censorship, advocating for the education and literacy of all – we’d be led into a golden age of knowledge and peace.
Or at least that’s the fantasy I conjured after attending my very first American Library Association annual conference this past weekend in New Orleans.
Okay, maybe it’s just the exceptional people who I hung out with – the librarians driving the growing acceptance of graphic novel collections around the world. Whip smart and passionate about their advocacy, I soon came to realize the thing that was most powerful about this group: not only do they love reading, they love it when YOU read, too, and they do everything they can to help more people enjoy reading.
https://twitter.com/librarylandia/status/1011285466560237568
This was undoubtedly a banner year for the graphic novel pavilion at ALA. Perhaps it was the lure of the exotic New Orleans setting – supposedly attendance geos up whenever the ALAAC is held in the Crescent City. But maybe it was destiny. Not only was it my own first ALA (something that shocked everyone I told) but the number of publishers attending for the first time or returning after a long absence was much remarked upon. Titan, Rebellion, Humanoids, the French Comics Association, Europe Comics, Zenescope and several other were set up for the first time. Fantagraphics and Boom were returning after long absences. And even DC, long represented by distributor Random House, had finally returned with a booth promoting their Ink, Zoom and Black Label lines.
The only publisher missing in action? Marvel Comics, a fact often noted that drew some tough talk from librarians. But that will be returned to.
It wasn’t just publishers – the people who were attending for the first time, besides me, Berger Books; Karen Berger, Black Crown’s Shelly Bond, Lion Forge’s Carol Burrell, Aftershocks Steve Rotterdam, Dynamite’s Alan Payne and many, many others were experiencing the library market first hand for the first time, joining such veterans as our own Torsten Adair, and Random House Graphics’ Gina Gagliano.
They all came together in NoLA’s voodoo tinged fever swamp perhaps to present an alternative to the twitter culture wars and comics shop vs Wal-Mart narrative that was keeping everyone else busy. And it was also the cusp of a milestone obscure outside the library world but momentous inside it; the establishment of a Graphic Novel Round Table. In the hierarchy of the ALA this classification allows for membership dues, budgets and greater resources for organizing projects. The drive was spearheaded by Tina Coleman, who’s  been organizing the graphic novel pavilion and the artist alley at ALA for several years, with a bold squadron of graphic novel library knights behind her as shown in this photo.
The effects of this new roundtable may not be seen directly outside the library world, but we’ll feel its influence in future endeavors. It also marks a momentous trek from the base camp that began back in 2002, when comics first invaded the ALA with a presentation by Neil Gaiman, Colleen Doran, Art Spiegelman and Jeff Smith, four swashbuckling creators whose talents and charisma could not help but win over the library world.
Anyhoo, I know I’m waxing rhapsodical over a conference. Maybe it’s just the effects of dehydration and overheating as I wandered the 97-degree swamp of Chartres St – maybe it’s destiny.
So let’s go back! I arrived in New Orleans back on Thursday. Looking around the gate at Newark airport, most of my fellow passengers were women reading books. It was a very ALA bound crowd.
The event kicked off with a reception for the French Comics Association at the French Consulate in New Orleans. That was as swell as you might imagine, a huge, gracious mansion opened for the evening to the library cabal plus a few publishers and the French comics contingent of  Barroux (Alpha), Cati Baur (Four Sisters), Aurélie Neyret (Cici’s Journal), Benjamin Reiss (Super Tokyoland), Julie Rocheleau (About Betty’s Boob), Eve Tharlet (The Wild Cat: Mr. Badger & Mrs. Fox) as well as French BD industry folks.
Flore Piacentino of the French Publishers Association gave a little talk and mentioned the influence of manga, bande desinee and “comics” coming together. I’ve often heard the three great branches of world graphic literature around the world categorized like this, and maybe it’s time for us in the US to accept the “comics” name with pride for our bombastic yet fantastic strain of storytelling. Standing in the hot backyard of the manse, with its mix of Haunted Mansion moldings and mid-century furniture, it was fun to hear of the panels and meetings to come.
After the reception, I grabbed some dinner with Karen Berger, Eva Volin and Robyn Brenner, Berger Books and the library world exchanging information over some super tasty shrimp and grits. Not only was this to be a weekend of smart talk, but a food marathon of surviving crusty bread, butter drenched fish and the occasional vegetable.
The next morning the conference kicked off. Here it must be mentioned that a teeny little con war broke out, GraphiCon vs Library Con. The first is a forum organized by the ALA GN interest group – and this year focused on adult graphic novel collection, a frontier topic where best practices are still being developed. Library Con was held across the hall and in somewhat the same time period and is organized by Random House.  There was some grumbling about the timing, although both programs were arranged to fill up the time before Michele Obama’s keynote and the exhibit hall opening at 5:30. There were some great panels on both programs, and certainly a lot to do. Random House did stack the deck a bit by offering a free boxed lunch. I decided to eat half of an egg salad sandwich from Starbucks instead. This delicacy is no longer available in NYC – probably because it’s too fattening for diet conscious New Yorkers – but one half made a great breakfast and the second half made a good lunch!
Graphic Con kicked off with a panel on “Building and Justifying Adult Graphic Novel Collections in Public and Academic Libraries” with Andrew Woodrow Butcher, Amanda Melilli (University of Nevada, Las Vegas) Marcela Peres (Lewiston Public Library, ME), and creators Ezra Claytan Daniels and Eric Shanower.
The main point of all the programming is that just as kids and YA collections – now well established at most libraries – started out slow, adult collections need to build on the success of those other age groups. Shelving remains a problem though. A recurring villain was “741.5” the Dewey Decimal category where graphic novels are shoved into one big blob. How to organize within this number – by author or series or age rating – is an ongoing issue.
Also what to collect is hard to pin down since there are more lists and awards for juvenile categories. (The Beat was mentioned several times as a resource for more information on graphic novels, giving me a serious case of “must do more!”) Adult collections are still built on a case by case basis. “Going online to find titles is not the best approach. One size doesn’t fit all since libraries don’t all have the same users and needs,” said UNLV’s Mellili. “You want it to be a reflection of the rest of your collection.”
Peres had a few success stories. She said the adult collection at her library has grown from 300 check outs a year to 1300 over the last five years. She’s also used innovative marketing approaches, such as a GN reading group held at a local brewery.
Shanower noted that his Age of Bronze was still finding an audience in libraries. “I don’t think there’s resistance like there might have been in 20th century, but there is still education that needs to be made.” Asked about whether his book has ever been challenged he joked “I wish it would be!”
Subsequent panels delved more into the topic from the publisher and creator sides. Image has a robust library program, led by Chloe Ramos Peterson, a former librarian herself, and the importance of catalogs, lists, newsletter and other resources for librarians was repeatedly mentioned. For creators, sometimes it does become a content issue – one scene may push a title from a comfy home in the YA section to an uncertain future in the adult collection, and it’s a decision creators have to weigh.
Reader resistance was also mentioned a few times. “Some adults are just embarrassed to be seen checking out comics,” said one librarian (sorry my notes don’t say who.) Overcoming this resistance with events and education is a slow but necessary step.
After the library conferences wrapped up everyone but me went off to see Michelle Obama speak. People had been lined up since 9 am – a different kind of Hall H indeed – and I didn’t want to get caught in a long line.
The exhibit hall for ALA has a kind of mini preview night – very mini as it’s only 90 minutes long – and after the keynote, everyone filed in. A big topic when I was around – maybe because I kept bringing it up – was the announcement of DC’s Wal-Mart exclusive. I had a lively discussion of the topic over dinner with retailer Brian Hibbs who, like myself, had been brought to the show by Lion Forge to liaise with the library world.  (Brian promises he’ll have one of his epic columns about the experience next week.)
As lot of our discussion can be seen in the piece that I wrote the next morning. Brian feels strongly that exclusives that the DM can’t get are the wrong way to build a bigger audience for comics, but that’s his story to tell and I’ll leave him to state his own case.
Saturday, for me, was more of the same, wandering the vast hall to find the comics folks, and chatting them up. The Ernest Morial Convention Center – a place I haven’t been since before Katrina – is very very long and narrow and the show floor had the GN stage and pavilion at one end, with long stretches of library tech in between, studded with pockets of publishers.
Despite all the excitement over books, many exhibits at ALA are given over to actual library tech. I don’t really know what all those scanners and conveyor belt sorters did, so I will leave librarians to explain what they were looking for. Fantagraphics had set up with Norton, D&Q with McMillan, Uncivilized and Iron Circus in Consortium, Dark Horse and DC set up side by side in the Random House aisle. Some publishers made the decision to be in the distro area, but many other stuck it out in the GN pavilion, notably IDW/Top Shelf, Boom and all of the manga publishers on hand, Viz, TokyoPop, Yen Press and Udon. While it was all the way at the end of the hall, the Graphic Novel Stage served as a focal point.
There were many creators on hand, including a host of the DC Zoom and DC Ink writers, and of course the whole artist alley, which was small but significant. Due to the size of the hall, crowds would tend to come in waves. Much like BEA there were often long lines for signings, and librarians love free stuff just like everyone else.
I did attend the presentation DC Zoom and DC Ink lines led by VP Michele Wells and featuring writers  Mariko Tamaki, Danielle Paige, Shea Fontana, Ridley Pearson, Kami Garcia, Meg Cabot, and Lauren Myracle. Unlike the long ago Minx (which this is often compared to) these lines feature veteran YA and kids authors who bring their own followings to an initiative aimed firmly at bookstores. It’s funny how retailers aren’t worried about THESE comics, isn’t it?
The mood was very different from the usual superhero hype panel, which usually consists of something like the following. “Remember issue #327 of Amygdala Man, where he finds a pair of underpants on the beach? Well in issue #600 we’re going to find out who they belong to and how it fits in with what Sprawlmeister has been up to.”
Instead the plans all spoke to the aspirational and emotional state of the young superheroes, with their motivations and family issues being covered to show how they overcame – or didn’t – problems to be heroes. Basic stuff really. The giveaway booklets for both lines featured sizable previews of most titles, and the art is sharp on these! As mentioned on twitter, DC Superhero Girls is the real disruption in the superhero biz, with thousands and thousands of copies sold and a whole generation of girls coming to love these characters.
Saturday night saw a sort of comics social event of the ALA, the Will Eisner Library Grant Reception, led by Carl and Anne Gropper and John Shableski. Grants were presented to two libraries for their projects, and a few speeches were made. Jason Latour (above) delivered a key note, noting how styrange it was “for a kid who spent a lot of time in detention to be talking to a room full of librarians.” Olivier Jalabert of Glenát also delivered some very funny remarks.
The event was another one where the spirit of Will Eisner was conjured. In a display of unique clairvoyance, he foresaw the rise of the graphic novel. Perhaps New Orleans was the place for his ghost to appear and see that his works were good.
Sunday was pretty much just more of all of this. I did the “Underrated and Overrated graphic Novels” panel, a terrifying chance to go on the record with some disses, but I won’t reveal what was said. My fellow panelist Gene Ha did repeatedly ding Chris Hart, whose “anatomy books” for artists are cheesy and full of mistakes, so I’ll go along with that: Christopher Hart isnogood!
I also popped into a panel featuring Mark Siegel in a panel discussion with First Second star authors Vera Brosgol and Ngozi Ukazu. At one point in the free-flowing conversation, Vera and Ngozi were asked why their artwork connects with readers both inside and outside the comics ‘geekdom’. Vera answered with a tip for young artists: “make the eyes bigger.” And the conversation went on into why humans are hardwired to love baby features, and sometimes cartooning might just tap into that – the appeal of “neoteny” in current comics styles hasn’t been much explored, so here’s your cue!
Also the great Raina, so often mentioned, was in attendance, although just to hang out, and led to this epic photo.
https://twitter.com/goraina/status/1010976229065940992
Sunday afternoon was also the big day for the presentation to the ALA governing board about the Graphic Novel Round Table. The librarians presenting the proposal had been nervous about it all weekend. Honestly no one thought it wouldn’t be picked up. When a call for interested parties went out they hoped for 200 responses but got 1000.
And that’s really the bottom line about the ALA. Librarians love comics not because it’s a secret hobby they try to fob off on other people – graphic novels are highly circulated books in libraries. There is an avid readership and a growing need for more information about all of it. I think a lot of first time ALA attendees thought that their job would be trying to persuade librarians to give comics a try, but the reality is that curators are way ahead of that – they’re always looking for MORE information about the publishers and authors their patrons are interested in, and more information to justify their purchasing budgets. They are hungry for more books that people can read and enjoy.
Far from the roil of the DM, graphic novels were clearly on the upswing “Graphic novels are big and they’re just going to get bigger,” someone at the Disney booth, of all places, told me.
Creator Frank Cammuso had an even more blunt assessment. “I think libraries saved comics,” he told me. Looking back at how comics emerged from the wreck of the post speculation market into the manga-fueled era of bookstore comics, and the recovery following Borders going under, library sales have risen steadily, an invisible but integral part of the business for publishers smart enough to get in on it. The numbers don’t lie: There are an estimated 119,487 libraries in the US, including 16,000 public libraries and nearly 100,000 school libraries. A hit in this market dwarfs the direct sales market, and doesn’t even show up on Bookscan.
So yeah, it was a good time. Despite all the shit going on in the outside world, I couldn’t help but feel optimistic as I made one last stroll through the feels-like-105-degree sauna of New Orleans. Perhaps I was just infected with a swamp dream, maybe it was just the low-stress experience of spending a whole weekend surrounded by smart, literate people. Maybe I was just bathed in the smiles and fellowship of people talking about the thing they love. For me, the ALA in New Orleans was the time and place to be feel good about what we’ve accomplished and look forward to doing even more.

Do you subscribe to the theory that "The Fairly OddParents" and "Danny Phantom" take place in the same universe? What about the theory that all the "Fairly OddParents" characters somehow turn into "Danny Phantom" characters (maybe due to one of Timmy's wishes) - Trixie becomes Paulina, Tootie becomes Sam, A.J. becomes Tucker, Chester becomes Dash, Mr and Mrs Turner become Jack and Maddie, Timmy becomes Danny, that sort of thing?
I tentatively like the idea that they exist in the same universe due to the cameos of Danny and Dash in “Poultergeeks” and “Fly Boy”, respectively:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I guess the popular life wasn’t over for him after high school after all. Acting!
I know nothing about Nicktoons Unite though, and I’m still trying to decide if I want to research the game and make elements of it canon or just disregard it altogether. I bring this up because I know there’s universe jumping involved.
I might throw in a few crossover jokes in my fanwritings (Ex: Youngblood wanting to visit the dinosaurs after he learns the Ghost Zone portals can take one across time as well as space, only to be told that the dinosaurs were killed by a fairy, who would of course have been Wanda in line with Season 0).
I’d like to use the joke from the “Brat’s Entertainment” DP comic about Butch Hartman being the one on the ghost money, me using the joke partially to point out Youngblood’s inability to read cursive, and also because I thought it would be funny for one of the other ghosts to be stunned that Youngblood doesn’t know “the famous fairy Butch Hartman”, and just slide that in there.
Not sure if either of those will actually come up, but they’re in the back of my head. Basically, if I can squeeze a crossover cameo joke in, I will, so if I ever write a one-shot about “Poultergeeks”, there will probably be a Danny or Box Ghost or someone in it. Norm might reference Desiree one time? Who knows.
It’s still a tentative idea because of details like, why wouldn’t a kid with godparents simply wish the Dis-asteroid away? And what does this mean for Jimmy Neutron, who lives in the U.S. just like Timmy does, but clearly comes from a universe so different that both characters actively commented on the different animation styles?
But I’ll take any chance to put all of an author’s characters in the same universe if at all possible (if any of you read through the “52 Thursdays” pieces I have on my dA, you know how all my personal works connect via Kima, the Quill, the boy who jumped the gate in the Fourth Wall, the avatars, and so on).
I kind of like the idea that there is a Jimmy Neutron in Timmy’s universe, but in that universe he doesn’t have his smarts, whereas in Jimmy’s universe that Timmy doesn’t have fairies, and Danny doesn’t have powers in either of them, but… I don’t know where I’d really go with that or why I brought it up here.
So “yes”, on some level they do exist in the same universe in my work (as does “Gravity Falls”, and anyone who read “Baby, You’re a Rich Man” probably caught the golf course joke), but don’t take it too seriously. I prefer to write for one fandom at a time. The only crossover I would dare consider writing at this point is one between FOP and “ChalkZone” (I believe I mentioned my finished eight-page-long outline of it last year, but I wanted to see Season 10 through to its end first since Chloe and Sparky are in it, and I’m debating how many of you will roll your eyes about the Pixies being in it. Look, Jimmy got the Anti-Fairies. If more of y’all would write Pixies, I wouldn’t be shouldering this burden myself. Plus, Skrawl and Sanderson would be awesome friends).
Though admittedly, I am tempted to do a “Phantom”/“Chalk” crossover since both those shows feature the main characters traveling through portals to different “zones”. I can just imagine Rudy letting slip that he has a chalkboard (read: portal) in his bedroom, and Danny freaking out because, “You sleep next to your portal??? Isn’t that dangerous???”
I kinda wanna draw Rudy asking the other Nicktoons if he can be part of their group but everyone just sort of shuffles around awkwardly because the magic chalk only works in ChalkZone and he’s also the only one who has to give his parents logical excuses for sneaking out now so that ties him down a bit.
I really should write some “ChalkZone” ‘fics since I’m slightly a bigger fan of that show than “Danny Phantom”, but the problem there is the same one I have when faced with the possibility of writing “Gravity Falls” or “Star vs. The Forces of Evil”- the show was SO GOOD and the world-building and characters SO FLAWLESS that I have little left to work with. There’s a reason the show stopped after four seasons. They fleshed out the world until it was all fleshed.
I latched onto Youngblood and his parrot because there’s a story there- they’re a pair. How did they meet and why are they still friends when they sometimes rub each other the wrong way? And FOP is my jam because there’s a lot of decent world-building, but it’s scattered in so many pieces that there are holes and inconsistencies everywhere. I made it my job to sew up those holes and design a magic system that made all those details part of the same consistent canon. “ChalkZone”, “Star”, and “Gravity Falls” just don’t need me.
And I’ve heard parts of the second theory you mentioned, but I support it 0%.
