Day 6 - Folklore || Pining - FACE Fam + Fruk 👀 sounds super cool
Oh it is. Very excited about it. But it's long so it's taking me a bit to write out. Also I am reworking the og outline because some of it was clunky.
Basically it goes, Matt is playing in the woods though he isn't supposed to and comes across Alfred, a little fairy boy crying. Concerned for him Matthew offers to help. It's revealed that Arthur, Alfred's father, has gotten trapped up in iron, leaving him severally burned and wings damaged. Matthew immediately goes to to get his Papa who used to be a doctor. Though Francis has heard how fairies can be dangerous, he can't tell Alfred no or leave someone to die.
Arthur lives but his wings will most likely never fully heal and it's a good chance he won't ever fly again. Too ashamed to return to the fairy realm he and Alfred move in with Fran and Matt and they become a little family.
Possible spoiler ahead. Not sure if I'm going to go through with this, but I have to put this idea down somewhere
I am considering making Matt actually biologically Arthur's kid, but was sent to a human as changeling because the healers in the fairy realm didn't think he'd live long. It would play off the idea that changelings are dying fairies who are switch with human babies so the dying fairy can live out their remaining days in comfort. But surprise! Because of how advanced human medicine is, Matthew ends up living. His immune system is kind of weak and he may have asthma or some other condition that's very manageable.
Oooh I can picture the scene now. Francis and his wife were just told their baby doesn't look like they're going to make it. Arthur sees. Not wanting to take away another family's child, he decides to switch Matthew with the dead baby that way Francis and his partner could have at least some time with a child.

Beatrice Soline Kirkland-Bonnefoy is a two-year-old toddler (in human years) that enjoys crawling, laughing and toddling. She is gentle and quiet, but can also be very snarky and a bit sneaky.
Physically, Beatrice is in good shape. She is short for her age with pale skin, red hair and blue eyes.
Beatrice refuses to speak anything but French until she is around 5 physically and mentally (aging pattern is different than humans). England is obliviously annoyed that she won’t speak anything “but frog” while France is just sobbing happily listening to Beatrice refuse to speak in English.
When Beatrice does start speaking more in English though England and France are horrified to find that she is picking up American English.
Love FACE family so ofc America and Canada are around. You could consider them Beatrice’s older brothers or you could choose to ignore it it doesn’t matter.
Either way she picks up some of America’s (and honestly prolly some of Canada’s too) English. At least for a little while as England tries to correct it.
Beatrice does have an older sister, Anastasie Thais Rose Kirkland-Bonnefoy. Physically and mentally Anastasie is somewhere around 3-5 when Beatrice is born, but she would be a couple decades old by then.
The last thing anyone expected when Beatrice was born was for her to be anything but blonde…if France and England hadn’t been around…which the latter in the case I’m going for this (idk how it happens you can think whatever and I will go with whatever anyone wants) can’t help but be there…but anyways if they hadn’t been there they probably would’ve thought that their baby was mixed up with another.
America definitely makes a “red heads have no souls” joke when he gets to meet Beatrice.
Anyways Beatrice is very tame for the most part…until she starts crawling. She has the face of an angel but do not let it deceive you she knows how to get into trouble and do it quietly.
She’s the type of child that just knows what she wants and won’t let adults easily distract or change her mind.
Her hair is fluffy like France’s and has loose curls. Seeing as she heavily leans towards French culture she is obsessed with her papa. France (finally be the favorite) loves to do Beatrice’s hair (and ofc he always does Anastasie’s hair too but he has so much fun doing Beatrice’s cause it has the same volume and texture as his own).

Why fruk? All they do is fight!!! That's exhausting and toxic
I know I took a long time to reply to this but I wanted to have time for it.
There are many reasons, from the usual rivals to lovers to the doomed lovers and gravitational forces that keep clashing to the lovely reason of face family (children), but I'll admit, I don't think face family is a thing. While I do love it, I don't think it's realistic at all in nation aus, they're too young and focused on ambitions and other matters; besides, they'd never join to raise the kids because France is not a parent, only when kids are older and interesting; England mellowed to kids with age, but he was a brat himself, America was the one pulling the strings like only a child does, tbh.
I could give you many reasons, from their personalities to the fact that there's not a single soul that knows them better than the one who witnessed all your failures and victories, but I decided to address the point you make about it being exhausting.
It is, but at the same time, it's invigorating.
As someone who comes from a house of maniacs who always fought, I'll admit I don't understand it that well sometimes, but there's a point to be made here, and that is: love is not enough.
These two are really good to showcase this point because they do love and hate each other like no one else, and that's not enough. I think that's the main appeal of this ship tbh.
Their love is not enough to be together, not enough to be apart, not enough to ignore the other, and not enough to lower their guard and properly try. And isn't that the most humane and real fact? I do gravitate towards them in all the ways they're portrayed because of it. You can make them sweet, you can make them less proud, and you can make them human and fragile, but in the end, they're who they are and will always fight. But while they do fight a lot, they are used to it; they're desensitised to it, even if it looks toxic or abusive. They have a mutual understanding that no one—them included—can understand properly, but it works for them, which is enough to make them crave this push-pull relationship.
They are ancient, they are used to a certain level of cruelty, and their morals are flexible. Besides, they have thick skin and don't care about certain words or violence. They are and always will be opposites, that's how they operate, their role in the world, and how they feel comfortable acting, because that's what built their identities up and carved their name in history.
(BTW if their hate was really deep and vicious, they would use Canada and America against each other, and the lack of shippers of frus and engcan tells me that maybe people do get that deep down they don't hate each other.)
They're also sadomasochistic in complementary ways. They both enjoy causing each other pain.
As I see it, France is more of an emotional sadomasochist; he finds real pleasure in humiliating people, and tears can be aphrodisiac in beautiful individuals, so it's a treat when he can't wrap someone in his fingers, and England doesn't give him that pleasure. He also enjoys feeling pain; he is that one individual who abides by the rule that the most pleasure can only be obtained with a certain amount of pain, and he does love teasing but can't handle it himself. Who else can fulfil his inner desires? Even those he will never admit he has? England will because he sees who he really is underneath his well-made web. England can make him feel his own poison, and as much as it's infuriating, it makes him addicted to more, and he won't deny himself that pleasure. (No pleasure goes to waste for that guy)
England craves something more physical and cathartic, so he enjoys when the other presses and doesn't give up when he doesn't give them the pleasure of showing his pain (he is too proud, really). He also has a sharp tongue that hurts people without his intent, so he needs someone who loves himself enough to not break with his vitriolic words (France loves himself too much to believe his words). England also enjoys hurting and being hurt; it can be relieving and usually clears his mind, as little does. Besides, it's a win-win situation because France also looks his best trying to contain his tears at his feet and is amazing at teasing England until he breaks down without taking advantage because he prides himself on being a good lover above all, even his own desires sometimes, which can be reassuring to someone as jaded as England.
There's also the fact that he does enjoy playing the game. England enjoys mental games, and this is pretty much an even one; sometimes he breaks, sometimes France breaks, which will never cease to be a motivator to keep it up despite that nasty fact that France enjoys reasons to do things, emotions, and all that crap. France is invested; he finds it fascinating in several ways and longs to be the one to really understand England or make him fall for him, whichever comes first (he lacks self-awareness sometimes for such a self-proclaimed wise nation). And England is, underneath all his bitterness, a little romantic, so he quite enjoys being pursued, so why not? At least the frog is one of the best-looking nations, despite his many flaws. (I will admit I don't really portray England as tsundere as the anime makes him but the fact still is that he will never be open about his desires, will never be dovey and sweet as France wished him to be but France kind of grew to like that part of him too, despite not being cute)
I could also add the fact that they're both dominant. That's another point of contempt but also complimentary; I'm simply in love with the idea that they switch up and France is that annoying dominant bottom who uses England as he wishes, not really realising that England quite likes being used like that (cough, cough, English vices). They never win with each other because they end up unwillingly giving each other reasons to keep up.
France calls it fate, England his curse. Either way, they'll always be connected by history, geography, and even humanity.
I rambled my way around the point, but the thing is, they enjoy this game, and yes, it can be tiresome.
Sometimes they really need to step out and give it a rest, but they're both confident enough to know it's temporary. They'll cool down when things get too bad and then call each other to gossip about something and find each other in the same bed in a single day, not really knowing how but thinking that yes, they actually missed that annoying guy.
Personally, I don't see them fighting all that much, but they do know where to poke to provoke, and France is usually the one poking because he needs drama in his life, and England gets bored easily, so he needs a push to keep lively, but they do know where to stop. (England goes along with it because it suits him and everything is boring; he keeps thinking too much, and this way he's engaged in something that's not self-destructive for once. France just lives for the movie life the drama queen)
So, they don't fight as much as you'd think; it's mostly for show because they need to be the antagonist force, and it's mostly about their differences in handling things and views that usually don't stray all that far, so it's reserved for their nationhood things. The fact that in Canon France demands to fight/argue with Germany also adds to my view, because who will counter him now? (He needs that voice of reason/oposition/ there; it's just unnatural to not have it there.)
So yeah, it can be tiresome, but in a comforting way. Is that a good reason to ship them? Maybe not, but there's no doubt they make a compelling case. Be it hate or love, they're not indifferent to each other, and that's a fact.

I'm so happy that someone else realises the potential of Scotcan. Dude I've been craving it for ages BC usually people pair Scot with Fran and I love it but damn the scotfra hits hard and both Fran and Arthur are so pissed about it. No no. The good child is balantly defying them right? Nah they're just in love and fruk want to fuck it all up but keep making them even more close and America is there watching like 'you idiots. They're just fine for each other' and they can't comprehend and get mad!! Besides America has worst affairs and he's pleased that they're too focused on Canada to bother him tbh no no imagine arthur complaining that scot keeps literally fucking any good thing he has in life and fran mildly jealous bc 'Scot's hot and that's my baby and me and Arthur are not nearly as well suited as they are what is this? Did Arthur play with his sorcery kit again?'

I enjoy scotcan but honestly i kind of prefer it when Scotland is using Canada as a replacement for France 😳 like he can’t have Fran for whatever reason so he’ll settle for the boy who looks exactly like him.

A - Current OTPs/OT3s etc.
It may not come as a surprise but I am absolutely rotting on PruMano at all times and have been doing so for basically a year now. It's beginning to melt into my personality and nothing can be done about it. Whenever I'm released from the iron grip of PruMano rotting I enjoy GerIta and FrUk like the normie that I am. The BTT are definitely getting together for threesomes when they're all single and I like them as well.
B - Pairing I initially didn't consider
This might shock you after reading the first bit but. PruMano. See I'm not new to this circus, I first watched Hetalia in 2015 but focused mostly on the Nordic 5 with SuFin and DenNor. This was before PruAus 9/11 (Hima suddenly announcing they're cousins) so I think I was on the PruAus rot.
Other than that I got a friend who I dragged into this hellhole (you know who you are) who has infected me with Frain and TurFra. I have some Thoughts about TurPru but uhh. let's leave that for now.
C - Ships I never liked and never will like
All the ones where there is an unbalanced power dynamic (age gaps, having interacted when one was a child and the other way older etc, former colonies and oppressive states, having a relationship that implies being related etc). I am a seasoned hater of these and I do my best to block anyone who as much as reblogs it. I do not care if it's "just fiction" you guys are weird and not in a good way xoxo
D - Ships I just can't get myself to like
Due to the aforementioned PruMano rot I just don't feel seriously interested in any other pairings I fear. Nothing against PruCan or LietPru for example, I am just so rotted on PruMano that it doesn't make me feel anything lol

I may just be the only person who has even considered TurPru and I have done it in the most unbearable fujoshi way possible </3

It's mostly anime series and TV shows I'd say, I do sometimes read but am a bit too busy to properly sit down and do so.

Matthew, Arthur and Arthur’s Complicated Feelings about Francis
So we all know that Matthew shares a lot of similarities in appearance with Francis. In my headcanon they share hair texture, both are blond though different shades, dark blue eyes, same thin, upturned nose. And that probably fucks with Arthur so much.
I am one of those fruk shippers who thinks Arthur always loved Francis. Deep, deep down. He hated him at times yes, probably killed him a few times and Francis killed Arthur, but when everyone else seemed to leave him, Francis was there. And that made Arthur feel warm and fuzzy though he tries to deny that even to himself.
Anyway, Francis and Arthur go to war, Arthur wins, gets custody of little Mattie. And when he first meets the boy he is struck by the similarities to Francis. It makes him feel weird, perhaps creates a barrier between Matthew and himself. But he gets to know the boy, and he is an absolute angel. He’s sweet, gentle, they share a lot of interests, Matthew is not as hard to keep up with or as mischievous as Alfred. And Arthur loves him dearly. But…Whenever he looks at Matthew, he sees Francis. He’s raising his greatest enemy’s child. And it makes him realize that he may have some fond feelings for Francis as well.
Arthur won’t admit this of course. He’s going to bury that for another couple hundred years until he is forced to be honest because he thinks he and Francis are going to die and he has to let Francis know how he’s feeling before it’s all over. But that’s a story for another day.
But eventually…It becomes the reverse because he gets so used to seeing Matthew. Whenever Arthur looks at Francis, he sees Matthew. And it becomes troublesome. Some time during a battle. Arthur has Francis right where he wants him and is about to give the final blow, but then he looks into Francis’s eyes and Matthew stares back. And Arthur hesitates, Francis turns the tables and has Arthur at his mercy (I actually wrote a fic about this here).
And the issue festers, though it gets slightly easier to deal with as time goes on and Matthew comes into himself. But it’s through raising Matthew I think Arthur starts to notice “Oh shit I still love Francis.” And eventually, Francis and Arthur do finally confess, get together and Mattie gets to have both his dads <3

Anastasie Thaïs Rose Kirkland-Bonnefoy is (physically and mentally) a five-year-old child who enjoys reading, playing and throwing a ball. She is bright and stable, but can also be very solemn and a bit sly.
Physically, Anastasie is in good shape. She is average-height for her age with pale skin, Blonde hair and green eyes. She has a birthmark on her left shoulder.
France and England argued over her name and didn’t exactly agree on it…well technically England did agree high off pain killers (if that is how you choose to interpret this once again idc how it happens it just does). Anyways France picked out her name.
It was originally supposed to be just Anastasie Thaïs Kirkland-Bonnefoy, but before it was made official England came to his senses and was more or less like “no way is it going to be all French names” and that’s how Anastasie ended up with two middle names.
As a baby she would get startled quite easily but was very easy to calm down. Once she learned how to crawl (and ofc eventually walk) she loved following people around (it didn’t matter who it was just entertaining for her) almost like a shadow at times. But she also enjoyed wondering off by herself—not very far or crazy adventures tho she typically only likes wondering off to rooms with toys and stuff.
FACE family dynamic (if you would like this is something you could take or leave) where America and Canada are (/are like) older brothers to her.
She also has a younger sister, Beatrice Soline Kirkland-Bonnefoy. Anastasie was physically and mentally around 5 when Beatrice was born, although she was already a couple decades old (aging more like nations).
She has a strange mix of English and French dialect (she speaks more in English but she often slips into some French). Her accent is just confusing rip.

The first song in my SicIre playlist is "Jemand da draußen" by Broilers which is SUCH a beautiful soulmate song. Bc it is like "Maybe this works out for one night, maybe this works out for an entire lifetime, but someone is out there who feels the same as me, someone is out there who's supposed to meet me and create something wonderful from it and us. I'm ready for it." They are SO made for each other.
"Dying in each other's arms" is reserved for family, I think, like. I love their love and its importance, but I think either way that some bonds go even deeper and more instinctually so. Them dying in each other's arms wouldn't be as heartbreaking and feel as 'right' as some other combinations, both Hetaverse and LFLS.
I was torn between "blood and guts and cannibalism" and "they should get weirder with it", but I think we haven't hit the ceiling with them yet. I looove the weird Incorporation thing they got going on in LFLS (Michele, cannibal and son of the anthropophage supreme, always bites, always eats, but he is so fearful about biting Harry. He doesn't want to eat him. Harry however, who's at best an auto-cannibalist and doesn't really lend himself to meaty incorporation, wants Michele to rip chunks out of him. He wants to be wholly his). But we can do better.

I love how they each see each other as a better person than themselves. Lovino feels like he is never enough, never 'right' and loves how kind and loving and optimistic Antonio is. And Antonio thinks he's living in his own dream world often, which can make him harsh and cruel and unrealistic about life. Lovino, to him, is realistic and strongwilled and so, so, so beautifully loving and responsible to those around him.
I also like how clearly, in canon, some of Romano's issues that Spain's love helps remedy are clearly Spain's fault LMAO. Always comparing him to Golden Child Feli is gonna give a man some issues.
I just looove what they do to each other. Antonio's 'I want to be a better person to be deserving of your love' and Lovino's 'I want to love myself more to not make a mockery of your love to me'.
But I could also always get weirder with them. However, maybe I just need to accept that not every ship can be Francetto or FrUK or even [cut part here for being too unrelated to the topic at hand].

on this blog you'll find mostly historical hetalia, maybe occasionally other things that catch my interest. i mostly stick to medieval and early modern stuff because that's the period i know, but i try to have a broad range of interests.

Enemies to lovers - Fruk and Rusame
Like an old married couple - Also Fruk.
Girlboss/Malewife - Aushun, nuff said.
Childhood sweethearts - To me, this is Lietbel (my OTP). They also have a knight/lady or princess dynamic, but this even could apply to Lietpol too because... Feliks IS the pretty princess. 🤣
Arranged marriage - Lietpol because of the Union of Krewo and the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth. But I also can see this in Lietbel in historical Hetalia, as the Principality of Polotsk (considered the first proto-Belarusian state) joined with the Grand Duchy of Lithuania to avoid invasions from both the Teutonic Knights and Mongol Empire. It could be a 3-way marriage union... or 4 if you count Ukraine? 😉

Oh man, I have a lot! I'm going to list some old fanfics I faved on my old FFNet acc that I used to love in high school though, because I hardly read fanfics anymore.
Nineteen Ninety - VoicesoftheSoul - One of the first fics of my OTP Lietbel I've read.
Belaya Rus: On a Spring Day in 1487 - rev lady mal - Belarus history-centric. This fic first introduced me to learning about the history of Belarus and her long history with Lithuania in the Grand Duchy of Lithuania. There are historical inaccuracies and she comes off as OOC, but I appreciate this fic as an attempt to show her history that is not known in the mainstream in Hetalia-style – and not portray her to be a hostile bitch or have a romantic or sexual obsession over Ivan.
Rings, Rejection, and an Unintentional Fiancé - Anonymous Dream Echo - One of my ultimate fave Lietbel fanfics! I still go back to re-read this here and there despite there being some cultural inaccuracies.
Plastic Talks - Mandelene - This fic kinda helped me cope with my teen angst and issues at the time. Still is a so well-written high school AU of Nyo!America.
Raven Tears - Dontmezwitme - Probably one of the most heartwrenching fics about loss and colonization of the Americas I've read. This focuses on the fanon personification of all American Indians/Indigenous Americans and First Nations raising her twin sons that later became known as the U.S. and Canada.
Childs Play - pupeez4eva - It sadly never finished but this was my favorite comedy fic of nations being turned back into their child selves.
A Colony, a Babysitter, and an Old Rivalry - TheFreakZone - A comedy fic on England planning a date with France but is looking for a babysitter for Gibraltar. Spain volunteers because he wants to claim him back. So many good witty liners!
30. BroTP? Headcanons?
When I was in high school, America/Canada was my BroTP (still love em tho!) but now as an adult, they are Poland/Belarus, Poland/Hungary (sometimes, I ship them romantically 😅), and Lithuania/Latvia!
Most of my headcanons for each here below will be referencing real-life history.
Poland/Balarus:
Natallia sees Feliks more as an actual brother than her "biological" brother Ivan, as they were around each other often for most of their later childhood and adolescent years during the Polish-Lithuania union and Commonwealth. The Belarusian language is greatly influenced by Polish. I know in canon their relationship comes off as more hostile, but I depict them in my head as having a bickering sibling-like relationship.
Because of their history, Natallia and Feliks can speak a vernacular language/dialect that may be a creole and strange mix of Polish and Belarusian: Tutejšy (or tutejszy). It was commonly spoken by peasants since it was simple speech. I read somewhere (can't remember where) that in Lithuania near the Lithuania-Belarus border, you can find some elderly Lithuanian Poles speaking it, except it may be blended with the Russian language too.
Feliks calls Natallia "Nastka," a Polish diminutive of her name. She calls him "Felek."
They both LOOVE gossiping and spilling to each other pop culture tea! I mean, Natallia knows so much countless trivia, even Paris Hilton's dog name, in canon so I can see her being a bit chronically online googling celeb tea.
Poland/Hungary:
They've been besties forever since early childhood, even married at least once before Poland married Lithuania.
Austria definitely has his moments of being jealous of their friendship.
Both are fluent in each others' languages and when they communicate, they speak in a creole language that baffles other countries because it sounds "so strange." Hungarian is not considered an Indo-European language.
Feliks calls Erzsébet "Ela" and "Ellcia," Polish diminutives of her name.
Lithuania/Latvia:
I generally consider them both to be "biological" brothers since they're both Baltic, with Lithuania being the older sibling. Although, sometimes I like toying with the idea they're cousins because Lithuania and Latvia do have diverging cultures/histories.
They love playing basketball together (although, Raivis' true favorite sport is hockey since it's Latvia's most popular sport). And they both act like loud frat boys when watching games, whether in person or on TV.
They both like to pull potato-themed pranks occasionally on Belarus and Ireland, some other countries with high potato consumption and have potato stereotypes.
Raivis has physically aged more since declaring independence in the 90s and his economy growing stronger, so he's now physically 17 – and has grown taller than Tolys!
Both are great singers and dancers, but Raivis is the "better" one.
Unlike Tolys, Raivis does not dislike Gilbert as much, at least not as much as he used to. But Raivis is willing to join in with Tolys in annoying him.

ohhhh my god me too though they're so CUTE as kids 😭 I think they definitely just did a lot of kid things, they'd argue over who would be taller when they're grown ups (and the universe said boom. same height!), they'd go on little adventures together which often consisted of unruly and fearless kid arthur dragging an unwilling francis through wet bushes and muddy rivers alike... arthur would often pick bunches of wildflowers and give them to francis because he had a huge crush on him 🥺
