I'm not doing good, because at the moment, the motherboard of my desktop has expired (died, surrendered to the sweet embrace of nothingness) and I am unable to draw. Have been unable to draw for nearly a month now. I'm literally suffering from Drawings Inside My Head Cannot Find a Way Out disease and it's horrible. :)
But alas, I am attempting to have a chill time through it all, because no amount of moping in the world will make the manufacturer/distributor answer my emails about the 2-year-warranty faster, so here we are.

the most famous example is probably The Transition in quackity’s first big las nevadas stream. the shaders-filtered deconstruction of el rapids: the soft ray tracing and gorgeously retextured sky, a montage set to Nostalgia minecraft music and the sounds of him and his friends founding the country, a last lingering glance at the now empty land as he takes down the sign. then BAM. quackity’s real life hand in harsh lighting crumbles and discards the beautiful scene we saw before, slams white boards and poker chips on the table. it’s fucking ugly and loud, especially compared to the last scene, and it’s meant to be because this is his reality now. no more soft shaders and soft music. welcome to the real world.
c!wilbur has spent damn near his entire time on the server playing some sort of character in some sort of story. breaking bad, hamilton, his own Tragic Downfall, whatever. this motherfucker cannot escape the narrative, mainly because he’s the one constructing it. he experiences the world as a stage. in the last minutes of Boundless Sands though c!wilbur breaks out of the narrative. he takes chekhov’s gun off the wall and throws it into the river, he’s not going to play a general or a president or a villain or any character anymore. he’s just going to be wilbur soot from utah, whose a little fucked up but is trying to do better. welcome to the real world.
am i reading far too deep into this and cc!wilbur almost definitely intended the joke to be “c!wilbur is a real man in minecraft”? yeah probably. but i like this

i would love any and all thoughts you’d like to share on your experience with nope
okay so.
personally, I found us to be absolutely terrifying. I cannot describe the acute fear I felt while and after watching us because I have never experienced such fear in my life, before or after. something about doppelgängers unlocked the deepest possible terror within me. the thought that some eyebrowless bitch is out there waiting w scissors is the scariest thing imaginable to me, and I can’t even fully explain why. in comparison, nope did not horrify me at all. yes there were tense and upsetting scenes, but they didn’t feel personal. it was all spectacle.
getting that out of the way, I am still in the process of truly Unpacking this gigantic fucking onion, peeling back layer after layer after layer. this post has been in my drafts for nearly a week now, because there’s just so much to say about this movie and I keep adding bullet points. also uh. spoiler warning, obviously.
to get the obvious out of the way: the Monster is a camera. chekhov’s gun (the well) is also a camera. the monster’s all-consuming mouth is also its all-seeing eye. the camera is a hole you put your money (the same coins that killed otis sr) and your suffering into. and the media has no regard for the blood and sweat and tears that go into capturing that perfect shot. but, through OJ and emerald, we also see that the Gaze is not inherently evil. being Seen is just as important as refusing to be consumed by the viewers.
in the climax of the movie, OJ and emerald are both asserting their haywood legacy: OJ, of course, as the black man on the horse, and emerald as the one capturing this revolutionary footage. even the way she takes multiple shots that can be put together to create a looping clip is reminiscent of the method used to create the first motion picture. while initially emerald is set up to be the performer and OJ the behind the scenes guy, it’s important that OJ is the one on the horse, because he Knows Horses, and emerald, who is far closer to being part of Hollywood as a culture, is the one using her camera for the right reason.
jean jacket consumed the horses jupe bought for it, exploiting OJ’s life’s work to try to appease the camera/viewers/consumptive gaze/whiteness/etc. each horse gets a name, the way alistair haywood did not. jupe wants to erase the legacy of these Black horse trainers, just as he wants to erase his own trauma for the consumption of the white gaze, but the haywoods refuse to deny their roots, refuse to sacrifice any more horses, refuse to let themselves be exploited without a say in the matter. jupe gets consumed by the camera shutter monster, but OJ stares it right in the eye after half a year of keeping his head down and going about his business, and it works because he is asserting himself against this wild beast, establishing his agency instead of trying to form a bond with a creature that cannot be tamed.
his cowboy hat is as white as he wants to be. he's a phony: not a Real Cowboy (most of whom actually poc irl regardless of what the western genre would tell you), not a Real White Man, not really Chosen. the bottom of his hat resembles jean jacket too, that white underbelly and the shadow of a hole. he sees gordy in "the viewers" and he thinks they are the same, that they have a connection. he thought he had a connection with gordy, too: the exploited chimp and the exploited asian kid (being the only minority as well as a child actor?? forget it) seeing each other, reaching out. but they're on a stage, there's a cloth obscuring their gaze. they don't really see each other, because jupe refuses to see anything. that’s how he’s survived this long in the industry, after all.
also, the fact that jupe’s “aliens” have chimp bodies and camera heads is just such a fucking DETAIL. fuck, bro !!!!!!
ok so the balloons right. they're what scare the chimp (btw, gordy: scaredy cat + gory?) when they pop under the studio lights – contained in a box (or a cage), rising to new heights and then bursting under pressure, just like him. antlets says that you don't wanna climb that mountain. that it's a dream you never wake up from. it's why he sacrifices himself, on a literal mountain, for the one perfect shot, in the first place. he wants to go out on his terms, not anyone else's. the jupe balloon rises into the atmosphere, meeting jean jacket – the camera. one eye open, one eye closed, straddling the line between exploiter and exploited, predator and prey. (otis sr also had one eye open one eye closed when he died.) jean jacket sees the balloon as a threat, so he consumes it. but the pressure gets to be too much. and it bursts.
the upright shoe. is it a bad miracle? yet another coincidence that only bodes ill? jupe believes he was chosen. or is the shoe jupes memory playing tricks on him, having stared at that shoe in the display box for so long that it’s now all he can see in his mind? trauma blurs the past and present, after all.
I think there’s also an argument to be made that jean jacket is a Colonizer. quite literally an invasive species, taking up undue space in this habitat. jupe is so desperate to appease it, whereas whereas em and oj reclaim their land and their family legacy by defeating it. the difference between gordy and jean jacket is that gordy was exploited, whereas jean jacket is operating on its own terms, sucking in anything that directly acknowledges its presence. where did jean jacket come from? we don’t know, and we never will. what we do know is that it shouldn’t fucking be here!!!
I’ve seen ppl divided over this one thing so I’ll insert my 2 cents now: at first i interpreted antlers’s shot as an act of irrational selfishness, putting all of them in danger due to his own white man ego, but the more i think about it, the more generous i am inclined to be towards his decision. risky, yes, but greedy? i think it was actually a grand sacrifice, proving that he’d risk anything for his art and its legacy. he knew that jean jacket would consume him, but the camera he used would be spit back up, allowing for the chance for the photo to remain intact. ideally, his perfect, impossible shot would outlast his physical body, and he would not be a real artist if he did not give everything he had to make that happen. he had to at least try.
humans cannot conceive of any creature being higher in the food chain. we exploit animals, and we exploit each other. anyone considered “less than fully human” in any way is fair game. that’s what makes OJ’s bond with his horses in particular so beautiful, so important. it’s the direct counter to the way gordy was treated, to the way animals and people of color alike are shown to be reduced and disrespected for the sake of spectacle. and it’s why OJ, against all odds, survives.
there’s so much more I could say. I haven’t even mentioned angel! but on my first watch, these are my initial impressions. pls feel free to ask me more questions about this movie though, bc there is SO much to unpack and I cannot stop digging thru the suitcase!!!
now for some absolutely meaningless thoughts:
when keith david appeared i was like "oh shit!!! i didnt know he was in this!!!" and then he immediately died and i was like "ok well that makes sense." still, loved the cameo :)
i appreciate the elusive gay sister (cow)boy brother pairing for a change. the only other example i can think of is ayesha and hassan from we are lady parts. we need more!!

honestly have not had much time to think succession the past two weeks (the timing of my irl shitstorm is horrendous like why NOW wait two weeks hit me when the show’s ov*r!!!) so i’ll just pop out a few thoughts here and definitely add/update/correct over the next few days as i actually like think ab it more! these r just some immediate first impressions ya know — nothing i feel confident on but i owe it to the dozen asks like this in my inbox to #break #my #silence <3
don’t know if ppl have already said this but matsson’s US CEO will not be shiv. he never actually said shiv, only she did, and it just doesn’t make sense - mencken wouldn’t agree to work with a prominent democrat no matter what she says, and matsson is very deeply uncomfortable with the thought of giving shiv that much agency as she’s someone he can’t puppet the way he’d like (and also someone with no experience in the business world who is not only a woman but pregn*nt). neither mencken nor matsson respect roman anymore, even though they both liked him over ken on a personal level, but ken…. ken they could work with. and ken would 100% be down. he’d fuck rome, fuck shiv, fuck his fucking of the deal, and end up endorsing the deal as the US CEO. he wins, but it’s lonely at the top. pyrrhic victory etc. that’s the most obvious way i can see it going, but i’m hoping they’ll surprise me bc it feels just way Too obvious (classic last minute ken flip-n-fuck tactic, classic classic pyrrhic victory ending, etc)

hoping there will be something ab ken’s shit-on-dad plan from e4 — would be kinda disappointed if nothing came from that except for the one mention in e5 bc it just doesn’t seem super plausible to me that articles exposing logan’s abuse, the connor’s mon situation, etc. would fall by the wayside and not make a splash. like, unless they just took a super soft shit-on-dad approach that was basically j ‘his sons did his work for him at the end’ etc, it’s hard for me to imagine it realistically not having some impact and typically succession tries to stay pretty faithful to the media cycle etc
seen a lot of stuff ab how all these past skeletons (cater waiter, roman harassment, shiv silencing the cruise victim, etc) are going to be released from their closets but i’m hoping that’s not the case — succession just doesn’t seem like that kind of show. like yeah it’d be nice on a narrative, karmic justice, character arc etc level, but that’s not how life works. rich people get away with the shit they do and it does not come back to bite them. real life doesn’t have, like, a chekhov’s trauma that ends up coming back at precisely the right moment to be the most narratively satisfying — shit just… happens. logan dies offscreen on a plane in episode 3. there’s no arc, there’s no closure. that’s how it goes. so unless they find a way to work in those things subtly enough that it doesn’t feel forced or Dramatic TM, it’s hard to imagine it happening

Thing is the idea of Frostpaw being upset that she was made infertile by outside forces would be an interesting thing to cover in xenofiction. But seeing as…
1) There is a constant idea that women Must Have Babies to have a fulfilling life (and thus adding this on top of that would be weird at best and flat out gross at worst)
2) Warrior Cats fans have the reading comprehension/media literacy skills of a small rock and would probably take it as an endorsement/advocacy for not getting your cat altered (leading to people throwing a fit about it or deciding that oh i dont need to get my irl cat fixed, actually) instead of what it is; an exploration of a character with humanized thoughts and feelings experiencing getting sterilized against their will
3) i do not think warriors has the delicacy required for such a topic because of either or both of those reasons
Im very worried about how it will be handled, if it is true.
The fact that this plotline has been included scares me a little about what the Erins intend to do with it. I’m not sure if they’re quite equipped to appropriately handle such a topic. But Chekhov’s gun and all that, I don’t see why it would be there if there wasn’t a later purpose to it for the story.

All the people i know irl that have watched good omens and the second season prefer the second season over the first one and i cannot understand why.
Yes, the second one might be more light-hearted and funnier but there are also so many unfired chekhov’s guns that it hurts. Some stuff just doesn’t add up and that irks me.
I guess I’m just also baffled because we’ve been living with just the book and season 1 for so long and know so many things about the world and the characters and now season 2 is like a nice add-on. That’s what it feels like for me. Yes, the story continues but the story has also been continued in the thousands of fanfics that were written in the last 30ish years.
I guess to me it just feels like the book and season 1 are a massive fucking buffet, it’s all-you-can-eat and then season 2 is a dessert you can order on top. It’s nice but theres so much food at the buffet already. I’d always choose the buffet over the dessert

no because the letter theory is so!!! that fragment that the st writer posted a few years ago that was like sorry I couldnt make it on time [...] it´s just that you mean so much to me [...] love, [...] like!!! they said it wasn´t about a established relationship, and byler isn´t technically an established relationship (yet). some people say it´s a for will playlist letter, or just some of mike´s letters in general, but it doesn´t matter, the big deal is the love, [...] part. like, let´s supposedly say it it´s mike, it´s a love, mike. just, the implications!!! no confession or longing looks would be needed abymore, because of what that love,mike implicates. ofc letters are not áll romantic, max wrote bunch of them, one for her brother that especially ended with love, your sister. but the thing is, this show has explicitly said that this, this love, [...] it is romantic, at least for mike, for him letters themselves are romantic, but the love at the end it´s just a full blown confession, something he couldn´t give. so showing mike giving this letter to will, no nervousness or panic in his face like when he was confrnted by el, just giving it to will so easly, will show you that, hey this boy, who was really struggling to say ily to his gf irl and through letters, can write it just as easly to will, bc to him that´s will, easy to love. and the fact that will doesn´t know that the love motif was the kickstarter of it all, yes he´ll get nervous and smitten over it, but in his head is obvioulsy platonic bc mike is straight (supposedly), he won´t make a big deal out of it, at least not publicly, because he doesn´t know, but we do, and mike does, and that´s why an love, mike reveal is going to be The reveal, the one that shows his true feelings, because, like will´s painting, that´s his chekhov´s gun.

Imo Adrien and Marinette dating only post-reveal would be the easiest, yet not the best way to solve the LS. We've seen that in the What If episodes, and that was beautiful but too easy.
It really seems like this season is focused on Adrien and Marinette learning to make the best decisions, which aren't always the easiest ones.
As we've seen in Elation, dating Marinette as Chat Noir would've been the easiest way for Adrien to be with the girl he loves, but he didn't allow this because it would've been unfair to Marinette.
Adrien really needed to have his miraculous be taken from him for a while in Transmission. Being a superhero has always been a way to escape his irl problems. So giving up his miraculous was basically him accepting the necessity of finally facing his problems.
As for Marinette, it might look like giving up her superhero duties was the easiest way out. But it implied that she now finally has to face the trauma surrounding Adrien.
The appeal of Ladynoir is that they're the future of Adrienette. That's what they will be like when they're grown-ups and married. But they need to grow in order to get there. And that's what they are currently doing. And I can't tell that it's boring to watch.
That's an interesting take. I definitely agree it was more than time for both of them to step up on the civilian side. One argument I can't quite understand is people saying Adrinette shouldn't be together because LN is more developed and therefore more deserving. Because not only does that treat the sides like they're in competition (they're not) but it's also incredibly one-sided. Adrinette is finally getting development it's needed since s1 and the people griping that Adrinette is underdeveloped are now mad that it's getting development?
I think this is a very interesting take though. I wouldn't necessarily say those things are easier because they come with challenges, but I do think this development that they're getting was needed. And I think the way they're going about it is very thoughtful and considerate of the characters and their issues. It's demonstrating why they are made for each other because it extends past just being superhero partners together. Yes, they work well together fighting baddies, but they also work well together emotionally. They support and understand each other. Dating as adrinette is giving them insights into each other that LN could never achieve bc of their identities. Chat could never tell Ladybug about his home life. Ladybug could never talk about the things Chloe/Lila does at school. There are so many problems in their civilian lives that need to be addressed that they just could not address as heroes without revealing their identities, which I know is what a lot of people want, but the identity reveal will come when it's meant to. I'm not trying to rush it because I know they have a plan for it eventually.
I think one of the big points of why CB and Ephemeral didn't work isn't because it was too easy, but because they weren't addressing the root of the problem with revealing their identities. Hawkmoth/Shadowmoth was still around and still in control of Adrien. And we all know Gabe is a snake bitch. He is the true problem with the love square as a whole. He stands in the way of every side. They have to deal with him first and give Adrien freedom to make his own decisions and love who he wants. I sincerely hope Gabe dies this season from his cataclysm wound. It's the chekhov's gun I'm waiting to see fired. Then I hope Adrien and Marinette makeout on his grave. I think that would be a great time personally.
Anyway, I find the Adrinette this season immensely satisfying, not just from a shipping standpoint, but also from a story standpoint. I'm a psychology nerd, so them delving into trauma and working toward healing together is just *chefs kiss* Tbh, if people are bored and would rather watch something else, then go do that. No one is making anyone be here if they're no longer enjoying the show. Go be free, babes. Quit shitting on everyone else's parade. We're just trying to enjoy the show.
