you said in one of your tiktoks you're interested in hearing what other people are doing for lent. so, here's me sharing that.
this year, i started wondering what to do for lent. on time, for a change, last weekend. i asked a couple friends. "okay but SHOULD i try to do something for lent this year? or not do" and one of them said:
"What's your goal for observing lent? What do you want out of it for yourself and as a general thing in spiritual reality? Contemplating the center of a holiday can give you ideas for non-traditional ways to celebrate/observe them while still retaining the meaning and value"
and i'd also been googling and read somewhere that the point of lent is to give stuff up and thereby share in Jesus giving stuff up when He came to earth to die for us.
giving stuff up isn't really my style. all things in my life are there for a reason.
but. these things gave me a different idea. generally i am obsessed with the idea of God not only knowing what it's like to be human because They know everything, but God also being human. having experienced these things WITH us.
For lent i am, every day, taking a thing i experienced that day and writing about how Jesus might've experienced that thing. to delight in the wonder that it is to be alive as a human on this earth. to be human with god.
on wednesday i wrote about my sister giving me cookies, and how i cannot think of any specific examples of Jesus being given food, but He provides food on many occasions.
thank you for reading!
That's a wise friend you've got there; i love the way they put that!
and ohhhh goodness i adore what you've come up with for your spiritual practice. i am similarly obsessed with the concept of God being human — if you end up writing anything you're extra proud of some time this Lent, i would love to read it (but no pressure of course) ^-^
also if you're interested, i've got a tag on my other blog that explores Jesus's humanity: #the human Jesus. you might find some inspiration there!

heres what's happening with reddit, as far as I know: a lot of people use third-party apps to look at reddit, bc the official reddit app sucks. some of that is just general suckiness but a LOT of it is accessibility issues, specifically inaccessibility to screen readers. well, reddit recently changed? is threatening to change? some stuff to block all third-party apps. so reddit organized a massive blackout, led by one or a few subreddits for the visually impaired (i wanna say r/blind?) - 48hrs minimum boycott, and mods set their subreddits to private. ...and it's working. it's huge. there's so little website traffic DownDetector thinks there's an outage. even r/funny, one of (I think maybe THE) largest subreddit, is dark. no word yet on whether this means reddit will reverse the third-party apps decision, but even so im just marveling at the SCOPE of this thing. plus, the 48 hours is just the minimum suggested time - some subreddits are committed to boycotting indefinitely - which is why people are talking about a migration to tumblr, though idk if that's actually hallening.
Oh hell yeah, thanks for letting me know! good on you redditors, organizing something on that scale is super impressive

Don't you think there's better ways of showing support for Palestinians/Israeli Christians than by perpetuating the "Jesus was Palestinian" myth that people constantly try and use to deny Jewish indigeneity. Allegory or not, it's not a great look for someone who purports to be against that kind of erasure and supercessionism. Also, having 1 line about how his death was the Empire's fault so don't blame the Jews is meaningless when in this allegory, the Empire (Israeli government) *is* Jewish
(anyone curious about what anon's referring to, I believe it's my poem here)
Hey there anon, thank you for your feedback. In this situation where various marginalized peoples are being pitted against each other (and/or conflated with political groups), I've been struggling to make sure my words don't add to the misinformation and harm. So whenever someone takes the time to remind me of that danger, I'll take the time to re-examine my words — even if I end up standing by them, as I mostly do in this case.
I can't promise to say and do all the perfect things, because there isn't time to waste getting my words just right before saying something — people are dying right now (and yes, anon, that includes those Israelis who are still hostages of Hamas, who are also endangered by Israel's continued attacks.)
I have been spending much of my free time these past few months learning more about Israel and Palestine, and I still don't feel I'm even close to knowing enough! But I've listened to those who are actually in the midst of the violence who say that all of us across the world must join their cry now, not letting our ignorance be an excuse. That means there have been a few things I've said that I then had to re-consider after learning more.
...
Just a few days ago, I was actually trying to look into the origins of the statement that "Jesus was a Palestinian Jew." (Btw if anyone knows the origins of this statement, please hit me up!)
Arguments against it note that the term "Palestinian" didn't exist in Jesus' day. Looking into the accuracy of that statement is still on my to-do list; I did skim over this article calling it a myth but yeah, still digging. Regardless, sure, I don't think Jesus called himself a Palestinian in his lifetime.
That doesn't necessarily mean that the statement is useless, however. I do very much believe that if Jesus were born today, in the same place, he'd be born to a Jewish Palestinian family, not an Israeli one.
That does not erase his Jewishness; it confirms God's "preferential option for the poor," God's choice to side with and become one with the most oppressed and discarded. It also does not assert that Jewish persons don't "belong" in the region — only that the modern nation/colony Israel isn't necessary for them to live and thrive there.
All that said, if anyone has more info on the statement that "Jesus was a Palestinian" — its origins, how it's been used over the years — I would absolutely like to examine it further. For now, I stand by the phrase, with an openness to re-considering that with further education.
...
I feel more confident in talking about Empire — how I used it in my poem, versus how you've interpreted it. I'm genuinely grateful to you for bringing your reading of it to my attention, because it's shown me that my words weren't clear enough there!
In these verses from my poem:
"...And now, as then, some may blame Jesus’s death on his own Jewish people — but resist this lie! Now as then the crime is Empire’s and those of us who would cast stones should ponder first what our nations gain from genocide. ..."
You interpret Empire as being Israel.
My intention was that Empire with a capital E is a much larger network of all imperial forces on earth. Israel is entangled in that, and directly backed and funded by those forces. My own country, the United States, is one of the nations at the helm of Empire.
So when I talk of Empire being to blame, I'm not saying just Israel — honestly, I'm personally more concerned with the US's complicity, because I feel as a US citizen I can help demand they stop.
So I'm going to rework that bit to better express what I mean by Empire, so it doesn't sound like I'm focusing only on Israel. Empire is so much bigger than any one state, colony, or government.
...
Okay, I'm out of steam. I'm going to link a few pieces that have been helping me frame all that's going on right now to resist pitting marginalized groups against each other:
This art piece naming "contradicting truths"
This article by Rabbi Danya Ruttenberg also naming seemingly contradictory truths
Since I didn't really get deep into this part of your ask, I also appreciate this article discussing the question of indigeneity. It discards the "need" to figure out "who was there first" in favor of exploring intersecting histories.
Oh also, because you claim that the Israeli government "is Jewish," I think discussions on how Israel isn't actually a safe haven for all Jews, only those that fit into their goals, are vital.

If you had a chance to interview someone who was standing for election as a bishop (in modern day), what’s one question you would ask that would shed light on the kind of leader they would be?
Hmm, maybe: What does the Kingdom of God mean to you and how will you, in your role as bishop, join God in ushering it into this world?

hey! i just finished good omens season 2 and decided to go back through my old good omens tag from like 2012-2014. was feeling kinda sad because many of the OPs of those posts have deactivated, but I realized you're one of them!! And i've been following you for ages! Just kinda nice to see some good omens old heads still around :) Feelin nostalgic, thanks for sticking around
Aw heck yeah, thanks for dropping in fellow old-timer! Gosh, I miss those days. There was a stretch of several months where i scrolled through the entire good omens tag every single day like it was my morning paper — it was always possible to get to see everything posted in a day because it wasn't all that much, but so much of it was soooo good (interspersed with like twenty posts of That One War Quote about how she's beautiful the way a forest fire is beautifuld;ladgjadl;jadl)

Ok this doesn't Count because we have seen your face on like. Discord and shared servers but we very heavily associate you with rain and storms to the point where that comes up first when we think of you instead of your actual Face so. congratulations you are now rain --Wolfgang
honestly? yeah that's the ideal outcome. i think we're gonna try and get more rain-themed jewelry and maybe make rain-themed wheel covers for our chair so that we get the rain association with people offline too, especially once we start going by Petrichor in person

Minecraft Wiki is independent again!!
Tumblr media
Yahoo!!! No more FANDOM wiki!!! Find the new minecraft wiki at minecraft.wiki!!
I thought it would be good to make a little PSA post with summarised information on why they moved from FANDOM!
Why did they move?
FANDOM is notoriously a bad wiki for both readers and editors alike. This is due to the insane amount of ads, the site layout, the lag, the fact that FANDOM can just take your wiki from you, etc has made the minecraft wiki decide to move
Because of the lack of agency the minecraft wiki has over its own wiki, they had a long discussion and vote with the community on what wiki platform to move towards. You can view both discussions here and here
By moving to a more independent wiki, they can provide a much better and friendlier service.
What's improved with the new wiki?
New site look, lacking the ugly FANDOM yellow sidebar and removing all other unnecessary bloat! This also includes a dark mode option and other custom settings.
Faster load times! I have incredibly good internet, and even I notice the STARK difference between the load times of FANDOM and the official wiki!
Less ads! At the moment they have no ads, but they do intend to have at least one. The placement of which will be discussed with the community to ensure minimal disruption to the user.
Better search functionality! FANDOM's search is notoriously bad at giving you the answers you need. Now they can have a more robust search function that more accurately brings users to what they are looking for.
No age popups- Unlike FANDOM this wiki does not need to know if you're a child or adult.
Anonymous editing has returned! Users can now once again anonymously contribute to the site!
HOWEVER. THE MINECRAFT WIKI NEEDS YOUR HELP!
FANDOM refuses to close old wiki's that have moved away, and so they will continue to show up in search domains. The old domains such as minecraft.gamepedia.com and minecraftwiki.net are also permanently attached to the FANDOM wiki.
In order to help the new wiki be successful, you can help out in the following way:
Spread the word!
Don't interact with FANDOM links. The less people interact with FANDOM, the more google knows that people are looking for the official wiki and not the FANDOM one!
Dont use the old links, again for the same reason as above!
And of course, improve the wiki :D! Since you don't need an account to make edits, see what you can contribute!
