“What if we lived together?”

The first time they think about it, Levi has made them laugh. Someone had killed Sawney and Bean, and they have been crying all morning. It felt like nobody understood, how important they actually were to get a figment of truth. So many comrades were put through the worst of risks, just to capture them alive, it made them buzz with rage, too.

“Your face looks stupid.”, Levi tells them, instead. And he’s right. Their eyes are puffy, to the point they can barely open them. He would have made a joke, if it wasn’t because he’s only a bit concerned. “Now are you gonna sit around whining like a baby all day or what?”

Hanji cleans their tears off with the sleeves of their jacket. It’s not a nice image; their nose is red, and the fabric ends up stained with a splotch of wetness and snot. Levi has the immediate urge to turn his head the other way, but then hands them his pocket cravat, anyways.

“If you’re not gonna be of help, just go, okay?”, they say, with their tone tired and their voice rough. They’re in their lab, where they’ve locked themselves after hearing the news. The place’s a mess; like a tornado’s turned it on its axis. There are papers ruffled, thrown upon the floor; books taken out of their shelves, piled up on the desk. To Levi, it doesn’t take long to figure out it was them; their wild, seeking for liberation during breakfast time.

“If you want me to help, then move your ass out to the diner.”, he sits down next to them; his back against the wall. Hanji’s knees are flexed, pulled towards their chest, and they’re crying again besides him. “You’re an ugly crier, you know that, right?”, he speaks once more.

They raise a brow at him. There’s a softness that lies within his words that makes them perk their head up, stare deep into his irises. As if he’d wanted to comfort them in that own, unique way of his. It’s not like he’s completely wrong, either, though. They’ve seen it. Petra cries beautifully, like tears are snowflakes melting on their cheeks. But theirs are snowstorms, somewhat similar to acid rain. They’re not careful, or pretty, or delicate. Their heart’s too emotional, and it burns like fire. After all, they have always been too quick to let their impulses show the worst of them.

Levi sighs.

“You’d look less stupid if you smiled.”, he says. And then, he does something that makes Hanji freeze with shock. He inches up closer, like he’s calculating his moves, and places down his fingers at the corners of their mouth. It’s a gesture that’s too intimate, even for a guy that’s stuck-up like him. Still, it gets the job done. “See?”, he adds, when a genuine, whole-hearted laugh bursts out of Hanji. “There you go.”

“What if we lived together?”

The second time, it’s a late autumn night. They have suggested it, though only vaguely. “There’s so much we could do inside…!”, they’d said, on a frantic whim, earlier on that day. It was a gentle vision to latch onto, if they were honest; to play family like that. They would knit mittens for the kids before winter, and Levi’d keep the place warm— brew them his best tea.

“Would you rather…”, they ask him now. They’re lying in bed; his head on their stomach, their hands on his hair. The wooden cabin they’re staying at is small, yet cozy, with enough room for everybody. “Read people’s minds, or… be able to fly…?”

Levi shrugs. The ODM is pretty similar to flying, he guesses. Still, it’s not like he ever enjoyed getting involved in other people’s business, either way.

“Fly.”, he says, short and sweet. And Hanji hums, content. Maybe, because they knew that that would be his answer.

“Hm.”, they tug at black locks; fingers lost amidst his scalp. They’re staring at the ceiling, dressed in his sweatshirt and pajama pants. For a moment, they can pretend that this is all there ever was, if only. They’d tell bed-time stories to the children, about heroes and monsters. But it’d be just fiction, and there’d be no need to make wishes to the stars. “If you could fly somewhere, then, where would you go?”

Levi thinks about it for a second. He’d heard Armin talk, about the content in his books. Lands of fire, where sand would reach beyond sight. Snowed mountains, where earth seemed covered by frozen white. The ocean; an infinite mass of salt-water that touched past the further horizons.

He had always been curious about that one.

“The beach.”

Hanji closes their eyes. They can frame the picture, even when tirelessly awaken. They have a wide, two-floored house near the shore, with a white fence and a porch. They’re not on the run anymore; Titans nothing but a memory that fades with the foam.

It’d be wholesome, they think. They could have rooms for each the kids, let them decorate the walls however they pleased. Levi’d nag them about it, for being too messy or unclean. Then they’d brush it off over home-made lunch, sit outside to watch the waves.

“Aye, idiot.”, they whisper. And they can listen; their voice melting off to the sounds of the sea. Like they’re there already; with sun in their hair and sand on their feet. “Tell me something nice.”

Levi keeps quiet, probably a minute or two. He’d never been a man of word, but he can sense it, too. Sasha’d spend the day fishing, bring in weird creatures to cook. Armin’d collect sea-shells on the shore, maybe keep them between the pages of a book. And he’d sweep the floors while humming, sit by the window to breathe in the view.

“You could put your knitting skills to use.”, he complies, finally. Outside, the word sits silent, only the night to guard this conversation. “It’s getting cold as fuck.”

“What if we lived together?”

The third time, they actually speak it. Fearless. Aloud. Like the words have bloomed out of them before they could choke down the feeling.

Maybe, it’s because Levi sleeps, and there’s no chance he can hear their thoughts. Maybe, it’s because it’s danger— thinking like they do. But there’s some sense of safety in talking truths when no one listens.

“It’d be nice, huh?”, they whisper, more to themselves than anybody. They’d dreamed about it, really. Clutched desire to their heart like it was specs of golden. It was the beach, first. But now it didn’t even matter. It could be the mountains of white snow, the endless sandy dessert. Or right here, at the forest. They’d wear the plaid-shirts Levi hated, then he’d take them off, shut them up between kisses and jokes. He’d make them his in the bed they’d share, too; their mornings filled with the smell of pine and burnt log.

“If we run and hide like this… where would that get us?”, he says, barely minutes after. And he’s right again. He always is, Hanji’s sure. They’re a fierce dreamer, indeed. Someone who’d wish hard, with every fragment of their soul. Yet, they also know, they can’t abandon their wild— the raw nature that’s in them to see light in this world.

“Oh…”, they bit their lip, sharp until it stings. Blood burns in their cheeks, has tinted pink the tip of their nose. “You did hear me, after all…”

Levi nods, and takes a look at the hand that hurts. He’s too tired, or too scared to ever dare talk. So, instead, he stares; his eye clung to Hanji’s, with the intensity of a thousand colored fireworks. Truth is, he does want the same as them, after all. The poppy garden, the greenery, a tea-shop. But isn’t it too late to ask now? Isn’t tranquility a price that soldiers like them can’t afford?

“Hanji…”, his voice cracks at the words. A tear’s falling down their face, followed by one and then another. It’s not the ugly cry from the years before, where their sobs would resemble a loud, broken water-pipe. Now, it’s all hushed, quiet; like tear-tracks are stars against the dark of their lashes.

The realization of it doesn’t make him smile, though.

Isn’t it too late now, to confess such a thing? Isn’t love the worst of curses in times of war?

It is.

It’s too late now.

It was first put together by a user named Nemure from the now-defunct Lunaescence. I am inspired to try out this challenge for myself. The goal I'm setting is to write anywhere between 100-1000 words per prompt, twice a week until completed, telling the long story of yours and Vash the Stampede's relationship as it grows, wanes, forms, shifts, etc. This will hopefully help me get into a regular writing habit.

Arslan Senki Chapter 126 (Part 2)

And unlike Kmanga you don't even have to pay twice for the privilege of having it split into two. SPOILERS for this chapter, I can't stress enough that the ending is a huge fucking cliffhanger so if you don't want to get spoiled please don't look.

Anyway, this is proper confirmation that Team Zahhak's clothing has magical properties / a life of its own and can potentially be dangerous even when separated from the wearer.

Given how fast the Master can dodge (or more correctly this is a teleportation style of evasion that I mentioned before where he reappears behind them) it's impressive that Andragoras actually landed a blow, though it's not even close to being a fatal one. Still, he looks like he's aiming to finish the job until the Master tries to regain control of the situation by attempting to blackmail Andragoras with the location of his child!

Anyway, it turns out Andragoras cannot be blackmailed and he'd rather renounce his child than be manipulated like this, which is... very on brand for Andragoras, regardless of what the truth about the child turns out to be in Arakawa's manga.

(Is anyone of the Parsian royal line a good father? Doesn't seem that way in recent generations. Hilmes, please reverse this trend with Irina by your side, I'd love to see you both happy with a family!)

Anyway GUESS WHO'S KNOCKING AT THE DOOR IN THAT LAST PANEL? THAT'S RIGHT, IT'S ZANDEH, PUPPY BOY TO THE RESCUE! And he's still got that little guy who was one of Kharlan's soldiers with him, and that warms my heart for some reason, I hope he gets to live.

Hilmes... 😭

I wonder what Zandeh thinks? It's clearly not 'nothing at all'.

Anyway this makes me really sad because where we saw Arslan open up to his followers and receive their support, Hilmes... can't bring himself to do that. Personally, I feel that at this point, Zandeh would support him regardless (as would Sam, who unbeknownst to Hilmes already knows the truth) but Hilmes can't bring himself to admit it, to admit the fact that he's based his whole life around a lie. Without his claim to the throne, who is he?

It's sad that he can't see that the right to rule and the qualities that might inspire loyalty and love are based on so much more. I'm not saying that he's a worthy ruler right now, unlike Arslan he hasn't even thought about how he'll govern the country for the better, but I do find it sad that his mindset leaves him so isolated here when it doesn't need to be that way.

(I'm going to need an Irina mention soon. At least show that Hilmes is thinking of her, even if he feels he can't speak with her.)

That's it for Team Hilmes content this chapter, anyway.

Who should Team Arslan bump into on the way to Mount Demavant but the Zot with a leashed Don Ricardo, still clinging on to Rukhnabad! So while Arslan did deliberately set out to get the sword, in the end it looks like it's going to happen via a chance encounter (well, if anyone can ever persuade Don Ricardo to let go of it).

Gieve recognising Rukhnabad is a great moment! Even he is so shocked that it seems like he's struggling to form the words as he processes what he's seeing.

I feel pretty sorry for Don Ricardo, he hasn't really recovered mentally from his encounter with Zahhak, he doesn't look to be in a great state, and while the Zot are merely intending to hand him over to Arslan, they can't communicate with him so presumably all he knows is that he's their prisoner, he has no idea what his fate will be and nobody to reassure him. Likewise, they don't know what he's been through.

Team Arslan try to figure it out thanks to Estelle, but Don Ricardo is too distressed, so they decide to find a village to stay the night. It's at this point that alarm bells started going off in my mind.

Narsus says "It's too quiet." (I start thinking of the village he stayed in with Alfarid where Arzhang had killed all the villagers.)

The horses start freaking out (we know they react this way to Team Zahhak)

Team Arslan find bodies of villagers with only their brain eaten (and who do we know of who has an appetite for brains?)

OH FUCK, OH SHIT, OH FUUUUCK

A weird mist begins to seep into the scene; Zahhak in the novels was described as exuding a miasma of sorts, I think it provoked fear in those who were close to it?

PANELS THAT FILLED MY HEART WITH PURE DREAD

Gods, I hope everyone survives this encounter. I don't know how it's going to go down but it strikes me that this could be it, this could be the actual deciding fight as far as Zahhak is concerned, because we have Rukhnabad on the scene right here, it could really be happening in Arakawa's manga right now, and I'm not sure I'm ready?

My head is ringing with questions. What does Zahhak's full form look like (we see the snakes clearly but not what they're attached to)? Is he fully resurrected or are the shoulder snakes just operating on the instinct of hunger? What happened to Kaykhusraw's body? Are any members of Team Zahhak here with the Snake King? If Team Arslan do fight Zahhak here, how do they go about it? One on one? As the strongest warrior, will Daryun take him on? Will Arslan (with Estelle's help) manage to persuade Don Ricardo to hand over Rukhnabad, and will he opt to take on the Snake King himself with the sword's powers?

Man I wish Kubard were here... I've always said he'd set everyone straight about the notion of taking on a being like the Snake King in single combat... Just kill it, any way you can.

Part of me feels like Zahhak won't be defeated yet and this encounter will serve its purpose mainly in showing Team Arslan that he truly has been unsealed, so now they'll know what the sorcerers were working towards and they'll know what they're up against. But will they come through this unscathed? I'm not ready for character deaths!

My working theory as of this post: Zahhak is not fully conscious and is mainly being driven by the snakes' hunger; he is heading for Ecbatana for some sort of ritual involving the head jars where he will truly return in full. The final confrontation will take place after matters in the capital with Andragoras and Hilmes have been resolved, and may involve entering Team Zahhak's lair beneath Ecbatana (ArAkAwA sHoW mE tHe DaRk TeMpLe).

Guys... I am utterly exhausted, this chapter has wrecked me. I'll keep an eye out for raws / somewhere to read the simulpub for free and post a link if I see it.

Chapter 126

Pan'er concluded that every time the palace held a palace banquet it always consisted of the same three things. Sitting around for hours, observing the titled women's greetings, and attending the feasts.

As for how it was for the men, Pan'er had no idea, but she hoped that the morning would be over soon, and that she would be able to relax after finishing her duties. In the afternoon she took the opportunity to go back to the palace to rest, and when she asked about it, she learnt that Emperor Jianping's side was not yet finished, so Pan'er went to sleep by herself.

After sleeping for less than an hour, woke up, hurriedly combed her hair and dressed to go to the Ning Shou Palace, and heard people say that the frontier sent a report of victory, His Majesty was naturally in high spirits. Ning Shou Palace was adjacent to the Chang Yin Pavilion, Chang Yin Pavilion is one of the largest theatres in the Forbidden City.

At the palace banquet, it was permitted to listen to the theatre, but naturally only the women who were members of prominent official family in the capital.

When Pan'er arrived, Empress Dowager Fu was already there, and around her, in addition to Empress Chen, there was also a circle of women. On the stage opera was being performed, most people were focused on watching, Pan'er quietly found a corner, and took a seat. Because the evening has no formal event, Pan'er did not wear auspicious clothes, but dressed in regular dress, coupled with the drums and gongs on the stage, her arrival did not cause sideways glances.

A palace maid came up to serve tea and asked if she wanted to move her seat, and Pan'er shook her head. After only managing a couple of sips from her cup of tea, on the side there were a few women gossiping. Now that the matter had spread in the palace, all because the report was reported at the palace banquet, probably everyone knew that His Majesty had been in a bad mood these days because of the situation at the border, someone went out of their way to time the report to inspire happiness and elicit rewards.

Before Pan'er left to take her nap, all the people above her had left their tables and that allowed her to leave as well. Whether one went back to rest, or to change clothes, this is the palace convention, only the empress dowager, the empress and highly ranked imperial ladies had this privilege, other women would still have to wait until the palace banquet had finished.

For example, Empress Dowager Fu had left earlier than Pan'er, actually not long after the start of the banquet she had left the table, then Empress Chen had left her table not long after the Empress Dowager Fu, and Pan'er had left a bit after them. So what these women had all heard, Pan'er had learned a little late.

It was previously reported from the border that the Jin people not only raided the town of Datong, but also raided Xuanfu, only because the casualties in Xuanfu is negligible, the capital had not been made aware of it. The two towns thought that the Jin people just raid their own towns, so they both set up heavy defence, fearing the Jin people returning.

Who knew that after they had failed in conquering the town, presumably they arranged scouts in the pass, and learnt that Datong's general in command Hu Bingcheng was seriously injured and unconscious, and then focused their troops secretly to raid Datong again.

Datong was missing their main general, but also because of the spies secretly sent to spread rumours to cause panic, even if they had tried to set up at strong defence, the Jin people would have beaten them. After all, they were injured and outnumbered against an overwhelming force. They thought that the other side of the army was divided into two ways, who knew that they were rushing to Datong, and were immediately taken by surprise.

At this moment of crisis, Yulin Pass received reinforcements. In fact, it was not proper reinforcements, but a low ranking officer patrolling the border with his cavalry, found that the movements of the Jin people was odd. This person turned out to be a bold man, with just a few people under his command, and no real rank.

After arriving, they found that the situation was not right, at the time it was just the practically defeated Datong garrison. To not call the person bold would be an understatement, he did not count how many people were under his command, had no fear of the opponent, and even dared to decieve them! They fanned out to seem like a greater force and attacked the Jin army from behind.

The raid came as a complete surprise to the Jin people, and it successfully managed to fool them into thinking it really were reinforcements arriving.They would have had insufficient troops, which is why they would schemed to pretend to attack Xuanfu and Datong at the same time. Feinting. Probably their own use of guile, but also afraid of the people of the Great Zhou using intrigue, deliberately trying to lure the enemy deeper, in fact, wanting to wrap them like dumplings.

After Datong, there is also Taiyuan, if Taiyuan had reinforcements, the leader of the Jin generals had the intention to retreat. The retreat of a lifetime, the morale is lacking, the team was immediately broken up, although the Jin people ran away more, but also beheaded a few hundred ranks, the Jin general was also captured alive. Afterwards, coincidentally they found out, the Jin general actually turned out to be a vassal king.

That is, the son of the emperor, similar to the meaning of a prince of the first rank. This credit is not small, enough to make up for the loss of Datong previously. That is not all, it was also clear that the court was very dissatisfied with the situation in Datong, so they specifically sent people into the capital to present the prisoners.

This occurred a few days after the General Hu Bingcheng was seriously wounded, presumably the imperial envoys sent to Datong at that point had not yet arrived.

That procession of prisoners would take about half a month to arrive in the capital, the report would naturally be the first to traverse the eight hundred miles to the capital. And the procession of war prisoners weren't just anybody, it was said that among them was the prince of the Jin people as well.

These were just the news shared over tea, and although Pan'er listened with interest, she didn't think much about it. Soon someone found her sitting in the corner and called out Your Highness, then Dowager Empress Fu's side heard it and called her over. After going over there was no small talk, that is, Empress Dowager Fu scolded her for sitting in the corner by herself, while Pan'er smiled sheepishly and said that she did not want to disturb the Empress Dowager and all the ladies watching the opera.

During this talk, the ladies sitting on the side were intentionally or unintentionally observing Empress Dowager Fu and Pan'er, and of course there was also Empress Chen, but most of the gazes were on Pan'er.

This was not the first public appearance of Su Guifei, said to be a divine beauty, which was perhaps an overstatement, but only beauty would not allow someone to remain favoured by His Majesty for so many years. From the time of the Eastern Palace, she was extremely favoured, and now she had been made a noble consort, and even the Empress was suppressed by her.

Of course, none of these words could be said loudly in public, and even the gazes were extremely subtle, so that it could not be detected. Regardless of the gossip, everyone knew they had to treat both the Empress and the noble consort with the same respect.

There was Dowager Empress Fu in the middle, surrounded by the matrons of the older generation, naturally, there was nothing for Empress Chen or Pan'er - both of a younger generation - to add to the conversation. Until suddenly a eunuch belonging to Jingren Palace suddenly came to give Pan'er the good news.

Pan'er felt that he seemed to be drunk, because whenever he was drunk or close to being drunk, his eyes and behaviour were extraordinarily different. For example, usually in front of the servants, he would rarely make too intimate gestures towards her, but once he drank too much, his small gestures were extraordinarily numerous, either wrapping his arms around her waist or holding her hand, touching her face or something like that, like a small child.

"You first drink the sobering soup, after you finish it go wash up, there's something we need to talk about later."

At this time, Pan'er had already washed up, wearing a begonia red bedclothes, the person was wrapped in Zong Cong's arms, she couldn't even push him away.

"The matter of Su Hai coming back, did Fulu say anything to you?"

"Fulu did not personally tell me, he came to Jingren Palace ......" Pan'er repeated the course of events roughly.

Upon hearing this, Zong Cong snorted, "This old bastard, he can sell himself to curry favour."

Hopefully getting chapter seven of my "little boy don't you cry, cause the child in you is still alive" 911: Lone Star fan-fiction up today. I suddenly got hit of inspiration today.

The fourteen-year-old and ninth grader Tyler Kennedy Strand who goes by Tk was riding high until he was not. His life turned upside down in the course of one short week. It was the 2010 Manhattan school districts homecoming week, everything was good great then it suddenly turned into a nightmare. Now to get away from all the pain his dad is moving him to Austin, Texas. Owen is rebuilding 126 fire-station which recently suffered a great loss, most of the firefighters lost their lives.

Happy Birthday, Modern Glasgow!

On Halloween Night 2015, I went with a friend to a club. Something I never do. I had a terrible time.

But I’m thankful every day that I went, because that night inspired me to write the first chapter of what eventually became Modern Glasgow - a short story where a modern Jamie and Claire go to a club, get angry at each other, and make up.

With time, the Modern Glasgow universe has expanded beyond my wildest dreams. The fanfiction landscape has changed, as well - back when I published Modern Glasgow in November 2015, there were no other modern AUs. Now there are too many to count.

When I posted the latest Modern Glasgow chapter over at AO3 a few days back, the statistics really struck me.

Okay inspired by this post I want to brainstorm some s5 plot ideas/wishes for our characters

TK: I would love to see him advance in his EMT training and credentials, perhaps be mentored by Tommy to be on a track to some day be a captain too. I think it would be great for him to have a less emotionally heavy storyline and do something for himself, do something that will be fulfilling and he gets to work hard at.

Carlos: we are definitely going to get a conclusion to who killed his father, which will lead into detective Reyes arc and I want that!! But I also want to see his bond with Andrea expand. She has regrets from the past and Carlos has grief and unresolved issues with his past too. I would love to see them become stronger than ever in their mother son bond. And I would also love to see Carlos leaning on Owen for fatherly support too.

Owen: Owen has come so far since season one. He’s lost another brother but this time he was prepared for that in a way. So I’d like to see him continue on that path he’s on which is staying outta trouble and talking to his son. I want to see more Strand men bonding and him spending time with his best friend, and his second son/roommate. I want him to be a mentor to Carlos and the 126 crew as we saw him doing a lot in season 4. I want him to move on from Kendra and find someone who is actually right for him. And maybe even a visit from Lorraine who I am so curious about sjjs

Nancy: the only character who didn’t get her own storyline in season 4. I feel like we hardly know her compared to everyone else. I want to learn more about her sister and the rest of her family. I want to explore her relationship with Mateo more now that they’ll be heading into their second year of being together. Will they move into their own place? Will things get super serious? I need more Nancy and I need it asap.

Paul: we finally started to touch on some of his past and some unresolved feelings he’s held in for so long about his pre transition years. I want to see more of his relationship with Asha. We really skipped a few chapters there with them in season 4. I would also really love to get a storyline of him where he isn’t getting hurt, or helping someone else. I want him to use his “gift” of seeing things to help someone on his own accord. Maybe someone they meet on a call. Idk just something really different for him that isn’t relationship drama or pain!

Marjan: Everything we got from Marjan in season 4 was amazing. I would love more of that. I want to see more of her new romance and how it’s blossomed. I love their chemistry!! The casting decision was the best thing ever and seeing her all giggly and in her feels is so sweet. I want more rescues where she gets to show off her fearlessness and her skills. And I would really love to see more double dates occur but actually on screen

Iris: she may not be a series regular but I need her to be part of catan nights. Now we have Asha coming there’s an odd number let’s bring Iris around she gets along with everyone. But no seriously seeing her at the wedding for the first time we ever got to see her actually have a fun time. I want her and Tarlos to be besties and for Iris and TK to team up on Carlos cos they both know him so well and care so much so they also know how to tease the hell out of him too. Oh and I need a scene of her and Andrea pls

Mateo: Similar to Nancy where I want to see more of his personal life and I know we learnt about him and Marvin; but we also got introduced to Gabriela his other cousin, and his aunt and uncle. I want to know more about his parents too who we never got to meet in the sitcom dream. And I really love seeing him on calls too. Season 4 didn’t give him much opportuny to shine like season 2 and 3 had done. So that would be great to bring back.

Judd: We know he is going to have a big storyline with his new family situation now that Wyatt needs regular and constant care. I know he will be a fire fighter again but I want to see the change in his life. I want more family scenes. I want to see if this will strain him and Grace’s relationship cos they’ve been so solid this whole time since he went to therapy in s1. So is this going to change that? Will we see some struggles in the Ryder marriage? Not that I want to see that but it would definitely be an interesting shift and one I would love them to explore so long as it gets resolved sjsj

Tommy: okay Pastor Trevor was hinting at wanting to get hitched at some point. So will we see an engagement at some point? Will Tommy’s sex dream come to life at some points? And what I’d really like is to see the couple move in together and see if that affects the three girls! I wanna see domestic tommytrevor and that relationship bloom!! She deserves it. And I also want Tommy and Andrea to have a bond. I would love to have some kind of relationship there because I believe that’s why Owen introduced them. Whether it was his idea or hers. That meant something.

Grace: Like I already touched on in Judd’s blurb I want to know how Wyatt’s condition affects the family. I want to know if that extra financial strain will come into play. And I want to see her and her sisters again. I know that was probably meant to just be a special moment for the three irl sisters but I would love to meet them properly at some point. Same with Judd’s brothers!!

this is an interesting question for sure…

i have to say it evolved a lot over the duration of writing.

but first, here is the playlist for anyone who hasn’t listened to it yet:

okay so…

very early on i decided i wanted to pick instrumental songs for this story over songs with lyrics…at least, i wanted the playlist to feel like it could be a soundtrack to a movie because the story is inspired by a movie…and initially i only had a few songs when i first started writing back in august (mostly songs from the big giant circles album there came an echo—which was because of the song outside the realm that plays during the “crazy together” scene, and i also had some from the stranger things OST too)

but in between writing i would spend some time looking up songs, usually starting with similar artists to the songs i already had and honestly i have to say it was kind of a rabbit hole situation with how i ended up with most of them—though sometimes i specifically looked something up, like “synth style christmas songs” which is how i found joy to the synthwave world and holiday nights and i also added a lot of the OST songs from the movie archive because i watched the movie in october and thought they fit well.

and after doing all that i ended up with a playlist that was close to 8 hours long and made up of 126 songs (the unofficial version)…but i wanted to narrow it down so it wasn’t so long (official playlist is like 53 songs and 3 hours)…..and my main reason for doing that was so that (if you’re someone like me) you could have it play in the background while reading to set the mood….

and i narrowed it down by simply reading through each finished chapter while listening to the songs to decide if they fit the vibes for the scenes (a rather time consuming process, haha)—oh and i even created separate chapter playlists while i was figuring this all out too (which outside the realm being a song for ch 4 shouldn’t be too surprising lol) because i took it a step further and tried to keep the duration/length of each chapter playlist to the average reading speed for the overall word count of each chapter (if that makes sense…like ch 6 being 10k words meant that i tried to add songs until the chapter playlist was somewhere around 30-40 mins long…….) of course, it doesn’t work for everyone because reading speeds are different, but each chapter playlist is timed for average reader speed (although i messed around with the songs for ch 5 after posting the fic and idk if that one still times well to average speed since i haven’t gone back and checked it, oh well) but uh……it was honestly a super ridiculous thing to try and do and most people don’t even listen to fic playlists (and especially while reading) but i had at least one person appreciate it (shout out to bre @magentamee) so that’s good enough for me!! 😅

oh and it also felt kinda obligatory to start the playlist off with the stranger things theme song…and after listening to several remixes of it, i found one that had an “end credits” sort of vibe and so that’s how i picked the final song :D

FUN FACT: the song “nightsky” by tracey chattaway was added sometime in september or october and i listened to it on repeat while writing so many times that it ended up being my top played song for the whole entire year according to my apple replay lol (it’s not my fault she put drugs in that song)

Tales of a 126 Valentine’s Day

Short Valentine's Day snippets featuring members of the 126 and filled with dates, dilemmas and classic candy hearts.

Struck with inspiration and managed to write these all in the past 24 hours. They are short, sweet and poorly edited. Enjoy and Happy Valentine's Day

Chapter 3 - Paul & Marjan and First Date Dilemmas Summary: Paul mistakenly makes first date plans with a woman he likes on Valentine's Day. Marjan doesn't think its a big deal.

“You’re making a too big a deal of this.”

“It is a big deal.”

“Its not a big deal.”

“When I let her know what days I would be available for dinner, I didn’t know what today was.”

“Today is Tuesday.”

“Today is Valentine’s Day.” Paul hadn’t realized until he tried to make dinner reservations and absolutely everywhere was booked. How had he not realized, he always realized.

“So what?” Marjan is too quickly brushing off his concerns.

“So, it makes it a big deal, I’ve got to step up my game for a Valentine’s Date, its not the same as a regular date.”

“But this is also a first date and what’s bigger than a first date?” She argues and Paul doesn't have a solid come back for her.

“Why do you think she picked Tuesday, I gave her Thursday and even Saturday too.”

“Maybe she’s just eager to meet you and Tuesday was the soonest that would happen.”

He's still unsure. He didn’t even really know this woman yet. Yes, they had really hit it off on the dating app and they had been chatting almost constantly for a couple of weeks now. There were no secrets, everything he really had to worry over was already out there for her to know. But Valentine’s Day seemed like a bad day for a first date. Too much pressure. Maybe she just hadn’t realized it was Valentine’s Day. Marjan could be right, she may have just picked the first day so they could finally meet and get it out of the way. Or maybe she did know and she was already even more interested in him than he felt in return. She probably wasn’t a creepy stalker but then you never really know.

“You’re obsessing.” Marjan says, interrupting his thoughts.

“I just, I really want this to go well.” Paul admits. “I mean I know I haven’t met her, but I really do like her, she seems great, really great, maybe even a little unreal.”

“That’s just how women are sometimes.” Marjan laughs. “You really need to chill, things are going to be fine, you found a cool restaurant.” She reminds him.

“They only had an opening because the couple broke it off this morning, that’s a bad sign."

"What you think that reservation slot is cursed or something." He doesn't reply. “You found that great shirt in the back of your closet.” A favorite he had thought had been left behind in Chicago. There really wasn’t anyway to make it out to be a bad sign. It was a great button down. Perfect for the place they were going and honestly he'd had some pretty good times in that shirt. And out of that shirt too, with it lying somewhere on the floor a few feet away.

“And honestly have you ever had a bad date, come on, I know you, I know you got this.” Marjan’s encouraging words finally start to make a little headway. He was pretty good at the dating part.

“I’ve got this?” Paul says, more as a question.

“You’ve got this.” Marjan promises. “You just feel off your game because you didn’t know it was Valentine’s Day, but tell me, if you did and that was the only day you could meet her would you have said no.”

No, he would have just made it the best damn date he could have.

“So what are your plans for the night?" He asks her as they silently agree to change the subject.

Marjan rolls her eyes. “Leftovers and action movies, what else would one single woman do on Valentine's Day, certainly not mope.”

"Never." He agreed. “You ought to use that dating app of yours, I mean I know you’re not looking for a relationship or anything on there but you deserve a night out, getting dressed up, fancy meal, you’d love it.”

“I don’t need it.”

“But you’d love it.” Paul insists and then an idea hits him. “Thursday, I’ll take you out.”

“What?”

“Just as friends, its nothing weird.” He promises. “We’ll get a nice dinner, you can get all dressed up.”

“For no particular occasion?”

“I thought you were always the occasion Marwani.” She laughs, pushing his shoulder.

“What about your date, how’s she going to be feel about you taking out another girl?”

“Hey if she’s going to be in my life, she needs to know that you’re part of the package.” He assures her. “Ride or die remember.”

Small Blog and Project Update

This blog deviates a bit from my usual anecdotal, creative update. For those of you who have not seen my Twitter posts, I am taking a short break from my packed art days to outline my visual/sound novel script. The game has 12 romantic routes, plus 3 hidden romance routes.

I have been using the MBTI/enneagram method of making character sheets… it's really interesting because after I wrote one of my deity character's profiles… I learned that Ame (OC) had the same MBTI and enneagram as Bruce Wayne… so, you can date a girl that's similar to Batman, kinda cool? Here is a list of the main character and primary romantic routes (along with their MBTI and enneagram types):

My character sheet/chapter-by-chapter outline deadline is 12/1, and after that, I will be working on character sprites until 12/12 - then I will resume my normal art, song cover, and blog uploads! I hope the sprites won't take too long, torso-up art isn't as cumbersome but I have so many side characters…😩💦

I have still been streaming almost every day, since I stream from REALITY - my audience is kind of limited to that app but soon, I will have a PC set-up and start working on a Live2D model, so I can start streaming on Twitch and YouTube! Here are a list of streams that I want to do in the future (that I am unable to do now or am limited with)…

digital art notebook art tier lists - these will be fun! I was thinking that I would make a character tier list every time I finish a light novel (or anime/manga) series or complete a game/visual novel /ᐠˬ ̫ ˬ ᐟ\ ranking things is always so much fun! visual/sound novels JRPGs rhythm games karaoke etc.

I was inspired today by the double infinity symbol, the concept of unlimited possibilities! I keep imagining the future and how many possibilities my ideas have to manifest into reality… I am excited to attach my tablet to a computer and draw on stream, that has been attached to me like a small blob of mochi lately! I will keep striving to make my passions tangible!

Hey I don't have links myself but re: that post about DuckDuckGo: I've seen a different version of the post with links to the CEO's Twitter where he refuted that (and explained why independent outlets fall lower in results) and I don't think it's true. There are a few reblogs in the notes with links. Also many of the alternatives in that list are Google or Bing clones posing as "independent" search engines to lure in people who are cautious about the big names.

Thank you so much for this info! TBH it's a relief because I've been quite happy with DDG, and I will now be on the watch for poser search engines!

My sideblog was tagged by @ancientstone and so I decided to post there AND on my regular blog!

Okay, so, I've been writing and not completing fandom stuff since I was at LEAST 16 which means over twenty years now, but I looked through my folder and I *think* these are my faves in no particular order:

1) Sinbad and the Garden of the Hesperides: a Proteus-heavy sequel to Dreamworks' animated "Sinbad: Legend of the Seven Seas" because Proteus deserves ALL THE LOVE dammit! >:[ (currently over 41k words and unposted but stay tuned because I know the first 4-5 chapters are done at least...)

2) The Sense of Her: a FMA Royai one-shot taking place over multiple points in the series, each scene focused on one of the five senses (currently on AO3)

3) Gunslinger: written in a different narrative style than my usual (Old-West stylized omniscient present vs alternating third-person POV) it's a retelling of Roger Corman's (yes, I know) movie "Gunslinger" starring Beverly Garland that is one of my favorite MST3Ks (yes, I know) but still has really good bones to the story (unposted and honestly barely started but still has some damned good lines if I do say so myself)

4) No Miracle for the Likes of Us/Rebirth/Codename:Teen Idol 'Dite: *CHEATER ALERT!* These are _three_ Venus/Kunzite-centric Sailor Moon fics, but are set in the same no-Stars-AU, with the first detailing the fall of Silver Millennium, the second beginning with the Shitennou being revived immediately after the manga's SuperS arc, and the third being a plot line so heavily intertwined with Rebirth that I haven't decided whether or not to make them one big fic featuring Codename as specified interludes o_O;;; (overall size: *drops face into hands* it... it just keeps GROWING... *sobs*)

5) She-Ra: Princess of Power: a massive retelling of the original She-Ra series as a continuation of the Mike Young 200X animated He-Man and the Masters of the Universe series, with each chapter an "episode" (currently a highly disjointed >57k monster, but the first two "episodes” are on AO3)
