My LOTR reread has brought me to the chapter where Éowyn and Faramir meet/become friends/fall in love. I love them; also JRRT goes so hard; how does he convince me to be super-invested in this relationship in the space of 5 pages? magic.
Anyway! my main point here was going to be: everyone rightly praises how this relationship development reveals Faramir's tenderness, his gentleness, his clear-sighted compassion. All of this is true and worthy of praise. But I believe that perhaps we are overlooking the extremely endearing fact that for all these good qualities, Faramir, Captain of Gondor also has exactly zero chill where Éowyn is concerned.

"average Aurora chapter has 33.7 pages" factoid actualy just statistical error. average Aurora chapter has 0 pages. Daybreak Georg, who lives in cave with a psychic slime, is an outlier adn should not have been counted

I know it's kind of the point, the passions of man versus the indifferent cruelty of nature, but it is amazing to me how much the Whale in Moby Dick just does not give a fuck.
The whole book sets it up as this malicious, intelligent demon that has it out for humans and wants to kill them all, and then when the Pequod finally catches up to it it's just... puttering along, enjoying the weather, having a grand old time. Even after they attack it and it destroys one of the boats it just kind of sits in the water nearby swatting at debris with its tail and ignoring them. Even at the end, the final destruction of the ship and deaths of all the crew, it kind of just has this attitude of like. Hey. You. I thought I told you to fuck off. Like -
Ahab: From Hell's heart I stab at thee!
The Whale: Oh, not you again. 🙄

and you caused it (a fic scrapbook)
a collection of written scenes, outlining, notes and art as a sequel to my fic cause most of us are bitter over someone.
In which Niki has a terrible secret, Puffy just wants to move on, Tommy sneaks into casino parties and Wilbur learns to deal with anger being justified.
Or - the one thing they don’t warn you of, when dropping nuclear warheads on old friends, is fallout.
31.2k words of angst, hurt/comfort, niki struggling through a self-imposed redemption arc, wilbur and niki fighting through the worst argument they've had possibly ever, techno and niki having their worst argument ever, tommy acting as the server's cassandra, and pandora's box being opened. niki-centric, with a heavy dash of rainduo - although techno, tommy and puffy also have their moments in the spotlight.
oh, and a happy ending. eventually.
chapter 1 - is bitter there?
wilbur does his very best to be a good friend. niki continues to have issues with making apologies. a casino opening party is attended, and a few well-kept secrets find their way into the light.
chapter 2 - at least i have nothing
arguments are had. roommates are invited to crash on an attempted murderer’s metaphorical couch. more emotionally intense conversations are had over l'manberg’s skeleton corpse, and niki is once again alone.
chapter 3 - sugar, milk and molasses
a prisoner goes free, niki and tommy try (and miserably fail) to get along, and some breaking and entering is committed. just out of curiosity, y'know.
chapter 4 - everyone there is, all together now
three important conversations are had, and niki comes home.
chapter 5 - but i'm forever missing him
resolutions are made on phil’s verandah, wilbur finally understands how horrible it would be to die in a ravine underground, and once-old friends are made new again. niki, again, finds herself baking a cake.

Sorta continuation of this, here's some observations on how the bsd anime adaptation rate (average of number of chapters adapted per episode) changed every season:
Season 1: 10 plot episodes + 2 ln adaptation. Adapts up to chapter 16. Average of chapters adapted per episode: 1.60
Season 2: 8 plot episodes + 4 ln adaptation. Adapts chapters 17-37 (21 chapters). Average of chapters adapted per episode: 2.63 (+1.03)
Season 3: 9 plot episodes + 3 ln adaptation. Adapts chapters 38-39 & 41-53 (15 chapters). Average of chapters adapted per episode: 1.67 (-0.96)
Season 4: 10 plot episodes + 3 ln adaptation. Adapts chapters 54-77 (24 chapters). Average of chapters adapted per episode: 2.40 (+0.73)
※ I opted out of counting the Hitori Ayumi OVA this time around, reasoning that the factors that play into conditioning the season episodes adaptation rate wouldn't have influenced the OVA given its nature of stand-alone episode.
Seasons 1-3 adaptation rate: 27 plot episodes, 52 adapted chapters. Average of chapters adapted per episode: 1.93
Season 4 adaptation rate compared to the average of all the previous seasons: 2.40 (+0.47)
Seasons 1-4 overall adaptation rate: 37 plot episodes, 76 adapted chapters. Total average of chapters adapted per episode: 2.05
That being said, let's try to guess how season 5 might play out taking in the previous four seasons adaptation rate of 2.05 as standard. Here's the fun thing: if season 5 is just 12 / 13 episodes of plot adaptation, that would mean adapting up to chapter 102 / 104. Coincidentally, chapter 104 (fukufuku flashback) is also the furthest in the manga plot that was shown in the last season 5 trailer. Feel free to draw your own conclusions, but as of now a new light novel adaptation seems positively unlikely and a Stormbringer adpatation basically impossible to make fit.
