“ Mama, look! ” As soon as she clocked her, Riley advanced toward Topanga in strides and tugged her by her hand into the kitchen, where on the table was a meticulously put together Valentines basket for Rafe. “ What do you think? It's for Rafe. Do you think he'll like it? ”
" Hang on Riles you're moving too fast. " Topanga giggles and follows her. When her eyes land on the basket she grins. She already knew she liked it but took her time looking at everything and then gave Riley an approving nod. " Oh yeah, he's gonna love it! I hope he's putting as much effort into your gift. " Cause her little girl deserved it.

He had snitched the tighter pants from his friend’s closet a week or so ago when he planned this costume, this homage to a friend in a playful show of let’s have fun that he’s now regretting. The denim pockets warm his palms, but he doesn’t feel the same comfort as when he’s wearing his own loose fitting clothes, and he could really use the comfort now.
He could really use the security of the familiar.

The stunt she’s referencing – or pronouncing was so distant he thought he wouldn’t hear about it again, the attention span of seventh graders moving onto the next dramatic thing to occur, which if memory serves him right, there was a coleslaw incident in the cafeteria yesterday. But she wouldn’t let this go. Not her. Never her.
