What If The Daggers Were YouTubers 🎥 Headcanons
- Ok I had a small idea for a mini YouTuber Au for The Dagger Squad and here’s what I got!
Rooster - Day in a life of Rooster 🐓
Tumblr media
This dude is a daily vlogger and does variety content. He also blogs a lot on his website (aka his Tumblr page). Rooster does a lot of rants and stuff on the things that he likes/doesn’t like, discussing topics of his feelings about growing up and tells stories about his life. Sometimes his videos are up to an 1 hour long of his chatting while doing chores or sitting down eating as he chats with his friends.
Vlogs on his life from the very morning to the end of his night, with music and simple creative transitions. His vlogs usually consistently shows his morning routine with his dog Lucas, him picking out his clothes for the day and running around town doing errands. Bradley tends to fixing stuff around his own little apartment complex and heading over to help build the new simple house, he want move into soon with his roommate, Hangman.
Bradley moves to play music a lot and always finds a way to include the music in his daily life, always finding new songs to add to his playlist. In which he would post his new favorite song or playlist on his social media like Twitter or Instagram. Speaking of music, Bradley has weekly specials videos of him playing his pianos and or guitar (sometimes livestream his sessions)
He is also doing a few challenge videos with the Daggers and plenty of collaborations with the gang. Since Bradley was a child he always loved the camera, especially since his father Nick and uncle Mav loved recording everything they did, so in result it lead to Rooster’s love for filming stuff and making mini movies in his backyard with his mama Carole. Now he likes to film YouTube videos with his uncle Maverick (who has his own YouTube channel as well) as they collaborated on ideas and entertaining jokes about their past.
Phoenix - Nix&Bob ❤️🧡
Tumblr media
She has a shared YouTube channel with her man guy, Bob, but also has her separate channel for herself
Get ready with me videos, challenge games, rants and recommendations (She films and spreads the word on social media)
They both share the work load!
When she’s recording for the shared channel, the corner of the screen will always be titled Phoenix Cam
On her personal channels, Natasha is showing hacks, tips and tricks for things. As well as makeup, hairstyle and outfit videos! She is the most Stylish Dagger, having challenges where she dresses up her friends and family for a week too. It’s always a fun one to watch!
She is always on the go so you never know where you might see Natasha next. However on certain occasions, Nat will instead have a completely different types of videos set aside where she discuss the struggles and time where she felt not the most comfortable or not confident in her own skin, what it’s like being a woman and what’s going on inside her head. On a level she’s connecting with herself and her community she built!
Bob - Nix&Bob ❤️🧡
Tumblr media
He has a shared YouTube channel with his girl, Phoenix, but also has he separate channel for himself
Get ready with me videos, challenge games, rants and recommendations (He edits videos and analyze comments)
They both share the work load!
When he’s recording for the shared channel, the corner of the screen will always be titled Bob Cam
On his personal channel, he tends to show editing tutorials, playing the guitar and building videos. Also as well traveling around the city! Sometimes Bob is driving to do errands while having his camera on site as he just chats with his camera like he’s talking with friends, building a connection with his community.
On occasions, just like Rooster he will just pull out his camera and just talk to it like he’s always to an actual human being and let out his thoughts and emotions on certain topics that’s been racking his brain with lately.
Hangman - Just Hanging Around 🎡
Tumblr media
He’s all about a good time on his channel! Entertaining his audience with darling complements to his viewers, cracking a few jokes and taking them adventures with him.
Story time with Hangman, life advice and work out videos are tend to be shown a lot. How to stay fit and feel comfortable in your skin, having fun and eating as much delicious food as you can. Especially with his huge sweet tooth!
Jake tends to do simple vlogs and collaborating with his friends when he can. He loves to do morning and night routines videos, talking with his audience a lot. Building a community online, it keeps his motivated to keep doing videos as he response to comments.
He adores attending all the things he’s invited to and often jokes how he’s single and always ready to mingle ;) cause he is single! Jake sometimes jokes to the camera, “I’m gonna die alone!” While his roommate, Rooster laughs and rolls his eyes at him.
However, he did make a video on why he is single before, his past relationships and the type of lifestyle he wants to live. He said how he’s not looking for a lovely partner at the moment. But if the right person does come his way, he’ll be more than happy! But at the moment he’s perfectly happy with his life.
Coyote - Your Friendly Neighborhood Baker 🍰
Tumblr media
Javy is a cook a heart and decided to make a channel on that! Baking all his favorite treats, delicious meals to eat anytime of day, baking cakes, different types of snacks and such.
Since Javy considers himself a huge nerdy fan of many things, he tends to make cakes and delicious treats based on the things he loved. For example he once made a cake stylized after his favorite sports team and another time, he made Star Wars cupcakes for his nephew birthday as well! Everyone loves he makes types of desserts.
He always has a sweet smile on his face and a warm glow as he bakes in his comfy clothes. Yes, he can get criticize for his style of baking and the types of videos he likes to make but Coyote tries not to let those comments get to him. Or he will discuss his own feeling on those issues with friends and family.
If he’s not baking he’s out recording himself hanging out with his friends. Playing football, collaborating with Hangman and teasing Nix&Bob on their channel sometimes.
Coyote always tends to do some daily vlogs and teaching his audience on things he likes do, sometimes he’s even playing guitar. Which result in him offer being seen in Rooster’s videos.
Payback - Take It One Step At Time 🐢
Tumblr media
He has a shared YouTube channel with his homeboy, Fanboy, but also has he separate channel for himself
Payback is a simple guy. He loves doing daily vlogs with simple tips and tricks on how improve small things around the house. Like your own little handyman.
He also does a lot of sit down videos. In which where he discussed things and experiences that he has, because he knows everyone is always going though the same thing and it always helps to feel heard and or understood on a certain level.
Ruben says to his audience to always enjoy the little things in life and try to romanticize the simple stuff. Even if it’s just cleaning your house, cooking a meal, going to a appointment and or just getting ready for the next day, try to make it fun/easier with things like adding music or dress up in a way that makes you feel good!
Ruben always tries to make sure his community, friends and family are comfortable with his content. He sometimes will get feedback from his friends and teammates on his video before or after he uploads them. Sometimes it’s good feedback and sometimes it’s just some feedback to improve for next time.
Fanboy - Nerdiest Place On Earth 🎞
Tumblr media
“Welcome to one of the nerdiest place of earth!” Fanboy will always say as a greeting to his audience once the camera is on him with a cheerful grin as he will introduce himself.
Yes, Mickey has a shared YouTube channel with his homeboy, Payback, where they both share the workload and have fun but he has his very own YouTube channel.
On his channel, he talks about everything pop culture related. He discusses Marvel, DC, Star Wars, Star Trek, Supernatural, Disney, Pixar, Illumination and the list goes on. He loves the community surrounding theses fandoms!
Fanboy’s channel is full of fan theories, rants about stuff he likes and doesn’t like, ranking his favorite or least favorite characters and or movies and etc. He also reactions to trailers, movies and shows while he tends to do collaborating with other YouTubers.
Mickey tends to go to Comic Con and other fan Convention. He loves to bring his audience along if he’s going to the movie theater to watch a film for the first time and will do his review in his car with his friends. He drags Bob, Phoenix, and Payback with him a lot to the theater, especially of its a weekend where they’re all hanging out and trying to collaborate together for content ideas!
What did you think about it? Who was your favorite YouTuber from the Dagger Squad and thoughts you’ll like to add! Remember to like, share and comment.

The story so far:
Carol and I were excited to play Baldur's Gate 3, and decided to play it together, so we bought two copies. We livestreamed the first bit of the game as part of our Couple's Game Night show, in a multiplayer game hosted on her computer. The next day, due to scheduling, we each started a single-player campaign as well on our respective computers. Everything is fine.
I had started getting into mods due to The Sims 4, and expanded into using mods on Fallout 4, so I happened to be on Nexus shortly after installing Baldur's Gate 3 and noticed there were already over a thousand mods for the game, which blew me away. I didn't know about the early release, so I thought the community had somehow busted out 1.6k mods for the game in the span of just a few days and was deeply curious about what kind of mods they could possibly be, so I started looking through the list. End result: one dozen mods and a mod manager downloaded and running. Nothing major, just stuff that gets me new dice or access to camp clothes at a shop, one thing that makes feats available more often, that sort of thing. Most of them just make the game more closely aligned with the 5e books. One set of mods stands out; a mod that makes WASD move the character instead of the camera, because the "move the camera and then click somewhere" mode of moving around drives me nuts, as well as a camera fix required for that and the special mod loader needed to run both. These are installed directly in the game's bin folder instead of through the mod manager. There is an Improved UI override in the mod manager that does not turn off when I turn off other mods. Everything is working fine.
Carol and I load a second multiplayer game hosted on my computer, which involves turning my mods off because she doesn't mod, except the WASD set and the Improved UI because I can't directly turn them off and they don't affect anything that matters for multiplayer anyway. Besides, after talking about it, Carol decides to install the WASD set on her computer as well. The idea was to avoid playing the streamed campaign off stream, but we didn't want to not be able to play together when we weren't streaming. So a second multiplayer campaign was the best solution. The next day, I also join another multiplayer campaign being hosted by a couple guys in my Discord server. Everything is working fine.
My Dwarf druid/cleric reaches level 5. I go to level her up and the game crashes out. No message, no hesitation; click the level up icon, and I'm back on the desktop with the Larian crash reporter opening. I start experimenting with the mods, removing them one at a time and trying again, to see which one is causing it. Nothing fixes the problem. That same day, Carol and I decide to jump into our non-streamed multiplayer game, so I turn off all my mods in the mod manager just like before. But we can't connect. When she tries to join my lobby, she gets a message that "GustavDev" is different between our computers and therefore preventing her from joining. We try switching to the streamed one hosted on her computer; it won't let me connect, but doesn't give an error message. Carol tells Steam to validate her installed files and walks me through how to do the same thing. Finish that process, but still can't connect. We don't know which computer is the problem.
Carol reaches level 5 on her game and is able to level up her character just fine, so we now have ample reason to believe the problem is my install. She explains that "GustavDev" is a core game file, and has me uninstall and reinstall the game. This does not fix my leveling problem, so I start testing mods again. This does not work. I switch to my Shadar-kai (yes, a modded race) bard playthrough, which is at a lower level, so I can at least enjoy the game a little bit until we sort this out. But this is a temporary solution, as I know I'm going to be constantly frustrated with the game and unable to finish it if I never figure out how to get past level 4.
Last night, we tried to join a party with a different pair of guys from our Discord server. Carol gets in just fine, my attempts fail. I have my mods off, so I start poking around some more, and fully uninstall the Improved UI override. Now the game still won't let me join the lobby, but does at least give me the "GustavDev" error message. I validate files again and Steam reinstalls one. Still can't join. I go into the game's bin folder and manually delete every file added or altered by the WASD mod set. The game crashes without opening; presumably, one of the files I deleted was necessary. So I validate files again, hoping that will notice the missing file and reinstall it. It doesn't find any errors. I try to load the game again, and it crashes without opening. So I uninstalled and started a new install and went to bed.
This morning, with a new install, I verify my mods are off and my Improved UI and WASD set are uninstalled, start up the game, and load the multiplayer campaign I'm hosting. Carol is still in bed while our daughter is getting ready for school, so I hop on her computer and see if she can connect to my now-open lobby. She can't, it gives the same "GustavDev" error message. This tells me things are still not going to work on my computer. So I exited the game and uninstalled it again. Then I went through and deleted the mod manager itself, the game folder, and the Larian games folder that contains all the save files and all the mod files. I purge every scrap of Baldur's Gate 3 and the mod manager I can find off my computer, then restart my computer, THEN tell Steam to install the game anew.
The install is at 40%. Carol tells me that if that doesn't work, the next step would be a refresh of my entire Windows system. I'm debating whether or not this game is worth that level of effort. Stay tuned for updates.

guesses what! I graduated! I am no longer a triangle! Now I'm DEEB from this Easter thingymabob I found at work! I'ma miss my triangle. I got attached. At least nobody's gonna think I'm a bot. My banner is the Hourglass Dog plush I got. Might change that. Not too keen on that banner. I don't have much news today but have you heard of Robert E Fuller? He's a wildlife painter situated in brittan who has wildlife cameras and such you can watch. Livestreams. I've been following the journey of Mr. Kes. A kestrel who had his mate peace out after a tawny owl attacked her. Now in any other recorded situation in history that would mean the death of his kids. He wouldn't be able to tear up food or keep them warm so he'd leave according to all known kestrel knowledge. Mr. Kes said screw that. He looked into their stupid fluffy faces and felt nothing but love. Three weren't looking too good so after a quick intervention from Robert Mr. Kes learned how to feed and care for his three remaining puffballs. He did so well that the three were reintroduced into the nest and Mr. Kes can't count so it's fine! He EXCELLED. I love this stupid bird. He's currently trying to score a new mate but his kids keep hearing him and coming instead. It's funny; he's frustrated. Ron Thal's Band Bumblefoot has been around longer than I've been alive. He just Glides on that doubleneck guitar. Listen to Guitars Still Suck and you can hear that man perform a miracle. Oh and check out the live performance afterward if you wanna watch fingers dance. Just only afterwards, the Sound quality is horrible. Don't look up bumblefoot by itself. That's a bird disease. He said his music is as catchy as it so that's why the band is named that.
WOOO Congratulations!!!! :D Both on your graduation AND your Hourglass Dog plush!
Oh I think I heard abt that! Or a very similar story at least. That sounds super fun, I'll have to check out those livestreams later!
My song rec today is White Winter Hymnal by the Fleet Foxes! No not the Pentatonix cover, the original. I swear, Pentatonix covers every song under the sun and makes their version more popular than the original, it's annoying when you want to sing stuff like Christmas carols.

StarKid and Musical Score #3
“The Nightmare Time is gonna get you!”
StarKid’s Hatchetfield series is an incredible collection of musical horrors, tales of terror, and the deepest lore that keeps me up at night. The series includes StarKid’s three most recent full-length (I say this to distinguish them from StarKid’s actual most recent stage show, VHS Christmas Carol Live, which was only ~40 minutes) stage musicals, The Guy Who Didn’t Like Musicals, Black Friday, and Nerdy Prudes Must Die, and a series of “staged” musical short story readings performed over Zoom (and a nicer video conference platform for season 2) and livestreamed, Nightmare Time. All songs were written by Jeff Blim, and the score was provided by musical director Matt Dahan--who essentially improvised the entire background score for Nightmare Time! Matt used motifs from Jeff’s songs throughout the score to tie everything together as well.
A few things of note about Jeff’s work include his ability to play with genre and his use of diegetic music. Due to the nature of Nightmare Time, with the songs being often treated like music videos and therefore non-diegetic, Jeff has more room to play with different genres. Diegetic music, or music that the characters are aware of, plays a major role in how Hatchetfield functions as well.
Below the cut, I will further discuss Jeff’s use of genre, the importance of diegetic vs. non-diegetic music, and my favorite or most significant moments of Matt using motifs in the score. I will include a Google doc with a more comprehensive examination of motifs. And I will note, as I have before, that I am not a professional musician! I am well-versed in music form, instrumentation, and genre from being an amateur musician for a long time...but I had to look up a lot of this stuff. I’m just a lover of music and musicals and also a librarian who loves categorizing and analyzing things. Enjoy, and be cautious of spoilers!
First, here’s the Google doc. This took too much of my time, but of course I did it anyway. I attempted to list every time Matt used a motif from a Hatchetfield song in his background score, with some exceptions.
Here are some of my favorites:
The Meteor Montage in TGWDLM foreshadows “Join Us (And Die)” “Show Me Your Hands”, and “Not Your Seed” as we see all the characters react to the meteor. It also is the first moment of any music at all after the opening number!
The origin of the “Nightmare Time” motif is in “Not Your Seed” in TGWDLM, and every instance of it in Black Friday and Nightmare Time makes me miss the days when that 7-note riff meant nothing to me.
Matt’s use of “Somehow”, a deleted song, in Black Friday. This song was an Ethan song after “Feast or Famine” when he and Hannah talk right before he dies. The score in this moment is this song, and is used later in the show. Matt also uses in briefly in “Jane’s A Car” and a lot in “Yellow Jacket”!
The classic Christmas music, “Carol of the Bells” is sampled in “Wiggle” in Black Friday and is used to set scenes influenced by Wiggly.
The intertwined plots of “Forever and Always” and “Time Bastard” allow for some cool musical foreshadowing: when the Homeless Man intrudes near the beginning of “Forever and Always”, the music from “Time Bastard” plays because it is later revealed that the Homeless Man is Ted. In subsequent Nightmare Time 2 episodes, Matt uses the “Time Bastard” motif whenever Ted OR the Homeless Man are present! These include “Honey Queen”, “Abstinence Camp”, “Daddy”, and “Killer Track”.
“What Tim Wants” is referenced a lot in “Jane’s A Car”, but it often is specifically the “Flash...bang...Jane” bit of the song.
New themes Matt created for Nightmare Time: a theme for the Black Book and a theme for the Witchwood! They are not in any songs...yet. They are eerie and melancholy, and I just love them!
In “Yellow Jacket”, every use of “Join Us (And Die)”, “Let It Out”, and “The Guy Who Didn’t Like Musicals” really clues you in about the main threat, Otho. In case you didn’t put it together, Otho = Pokotho, the Singular Voice = the Apotheosis.
There are 2 themes that get focus in Nerdy Prudes Must Die: in my Google doc, I’ve dubbed them the “Nerdy Prudes Must Die motif” and the “Cool As I Think As I Am bridge”. The first, featured in the very first trailer for NPMD, is a piano riff (meant to emulate the themes from The Exorcist and Halloween) featured throughout the show and in a few songs, namely the title track and “Hatchet Town”. The second, the bridge from “Cool As I Think I Am”, is also used in the title track around the same time stamp as the first theme, in a reprise, and even “Just For Once”. The intertwining of these themes, not just as background music but in other songs, makes the show as a whole really cohesive.
Diegetic Music is Key
Diegetic music, or music that can be heard by the characters, is key to the plot of The Guy Who Didn’t Like Musicals and is used cleverly in the other shows as well. In TGWDLM, the very fact that Paul and the other characters can hear the songs is the main driving horror...which makes Hidgens seem all the more insane!
After seeing TGWDLM with these diegetic rules established, the opening to Black Friday is very jarring; “Tickle-Me Wiggly Jingle” is crazy enough, but the realization that it is only diegetic because it is a commercial puts us in a lull of relief. The other songs in Black Friday are generally non-diegetic. This is apparent when we see Tom just standing there singing while also seemingly driving to Lakeside Mall, the shoppers getting right back in line like nothing happened after “What Do You Say” and “Our Doors Are Open”, Lex having an out-of-body experience in “Black Friday”, and more. Songs like the jingle and “Deck the Halls (Of Northville High)” are commercials or in a movie, so those are diegetic. The one that might not fit the mold is “What If Tomorrow Comes”: Hannah really does seem to be singing, as the others seem confused...but then they join in anyway. Hannah can see all the realities and timelines, so it’s plausible she can break the fourth wall.
For Nerdy Prudes Must Die, it’s almost an even split, or there are songs that are semi-diegetic. In “Cool As I Think I Am”, the lyrics “I bet this song’ll suck” implies that Pete is really singing this song, but the Greek chorus behind him is unlikely to be real. It’s more just a tongue-in-cheek fourth wall break. “Dirty Girl” is Grace’s sexual fantasy, and I believe she would imagine singing as sexy song with Max. The fact that “[Grace] is snapping again” in “Bully the Bully” and “Bury the Bully” implies they really are singing these songs, or at least Grace is. “Go Go Nighthawks” is at least partially diegetic, because the actual fight song part at the end seems real. “Nerdy Prudes Must Die” and “Dirty Dudes Must Die” seem semi-diegetic, given the call and response between Max and Richie as well as Jason’s reaction to Grace’s madness. “Just For Once” is diegetic, as Ruth is literally singing this song on stage by herself. Finally, “The Summoning” is absolutely diegetic: the chanting to summon the Lords is definitely real, and I firmly believe the Lords would appear to their worshippers singing obnoxious songs and being chaos gremlins.
Nightmare Time is a whole other story. The songs are music videos essentially, so many are non-diegetic and more metaphorically connected and representative of the plot and characters. Exceptions: “The Blinky Song” and “Snoozle Town” are sung by the Sniggles at Watcher World; “Forever and Always” might be Paul and Emma’s wedding song; “The Witch in the Web” is the song Webby taught Hannah; Zoey really sings “Latte Hatte” at Beanies, and Linda really sings “Queen B” for her performance; Boy Jerry and Girl Jeri really sing “Virginity Rocks” to welcome the campers; Miss Holloway really sings “Run Away With Me”; and “Killer Track” plays multiple times as it plays over and over in Rose’s head. The latter is rather interesting because it’s played multiple times akin to the motifs Matt uses, but every instance is an actual instance of the song playing, whether by Kale or in Rose’s head.
Most StarKid musicals are diegetic, as evidenced by characters talking about their own or other characters singing. They break the fourth wall all the time. So, it was interesting in TGWDLM to see diegetic songs and have it be a problem! It tracks, then, that Black Friday, as the most serious StarKid show, is mostly non-diegetic.
Get Your Genres Here!
Disclaimer: For this part, I looked up a list of music genres. The problem is...there’s far too many and the distinction between them is often unclear for a non-professional like me. I’ll try my best, but for most I will have to be general in my classifcation. Modern musicals are especially hard to categorize because they tend to mix genres a lot.
Most of StarKid’s songs could be classified as rock or pop songs; while there are definite influences for some, most fall into the same category. They tread the line between rock or pop, jazz, and opera. TGWDLM follows this pattern as well. Most are rock/pop inspired songs, but more influenced by jazz with the prominent use of piano in some songs--electric guitar is still a major player in the “darker” songs, though. Some exceptions:
“Cup of Roasted Coffee” is swing, directly inspired by “Solid Potato Salad” (according to Jaime Lyn Beatty), a swing song from the 1940s.
“Join Us (And Die)” leans more towards hard rock, as does “Not Your Seed”. It’s the electric guitar and distortion, as well as Jaime’s vocals!
“Show Stoppin Number” is very “musical theatre”, if that counts as its own genre. But that was the point...it’s a very meta song. It’s almost strictly piano, which doesn’t automatically make it “musical theatre”, but it gives it that vibe. Also, when I say “musical theatre” as a genre, I typically mean musicals from the 1960s and before; Broadway in the 1970s and after began using more rock, pop, and other genres that fit the tone or plot. So, think like “Anything Goes”.
“America Is Great Again” takes inspiration from military marches, for obvious reasons. The steady snare drum really drives the song forward.
Black Friday is where it starts getting fun. Because the songs are mostly non-diegetic, Jeff had more freedom to play with genre. Most are roughly rock or pop, with some being more like rock ballads. The “darker” songs like “Made In America” or “Wiggle” make great use of synthesizer and heavy distorted guitar and bass.
“Tickle-me Wiggly Jingle” is obviously a jingle (this is its own genre!). It sounds more like children’s music mixed with dance music, as it uses synthesizer and claps as the main instrumentation.
“CaliforM.I.A.” is hard rock or alternative rock. Electric guitar, heavy drumset, driving bass, and Angela and Robert’s vocals give me that vibe.
“Our Doors Are Open” is Motown, a type of early soul/R&B popularized by Black singers in 1960s Detroit, Michigan (a fitting song for a Black man in Hatchetfield, Michigan like Frank Pricely!), and a bit of Doo wop--which is really just slower and smoother Motown. Tight drums, driving bass, smooth vocals (especially the “doo-wop” parts), and jazz/big band instrumentation. Think of The Temptations (”My Girl”) or The Supremes. Just listen to the first track of this Motown compilation, and you’ll get it.
“Monsters and Men” is again based on military marches, because PEIP and MacNamara, but it has a specific inspiration as well. In the commentary track, Jeff states that he based this heavily on the song “Into the Fire” from the Broadway musical The Scarlet Pimpernel. Both give me “One Day More” or “Red and Black” from Les Misérables vibes, for a more well-known example.
“Deck the Halls (Of Northville High)” is just a rock song, but obviously based on High School Musical...specifically “Get’cha Head in the Game”, “Stick to the Status Quo”, “We’re All In This Together”, “What Time Is It” , and “All For One”--the last two are from High School Musical 2. The big group numbers and cheesy pop tracks are so early 2000s Disney.
“What If Tomorrow Comes” feels like New Wave alternative based on the instrumentation: synthesizers (bell tones and strings) alongside guitar and drums (often synthetic, but not in this case). There’s a lot I haven’t heard before, but I haven’t heard anything like this song before.
For Nightmare Time, Jeff just went wild, and we applaud him for it! Since the songs were more abstract and metaphorically connected, they could really be any genre and still work. In this case, Jeff also made musical references to specific categories of songs, not just genres.
The theme song mixes the piano and synthesizer so well, I really don’t know what it is. Electronic and rock; there can be more than one genre. It’s just a banger!
“The Hatchetfield Ape-Man” is kind of jazz, kind of swing, kind of boogie-woogie blues. I can imagine Jaime Lyn singing this at a 1920s speakeasy.
“The Blinky Song” is similar to “Tickle-Me Wiggly Jingle”, obviously on purpose, in that it is kind of a mix of children’s music, dance music, and swing in this case.
“Snoozle Town” is just a pop ballad.
“One Thousand Eyes” is EDM, house, dubstep--not sure, because EDM has A LOT of subgenres. Think like Daft Punk, Cascada, Marshmello, “Levels” by Avicii, “Sandstorm” by Darude. When that bass drops...mmm, it’s nice.
“Forever and Always” is a very “musical theatre” love song or ballad.
“Time Bastard” is a James Bond song, an obvious reference to “Goldfinger”. Even the video parodies the opening to that movie! Some other similar James Bond themes: “Diamonds Are Forever” and “Skyfall” (by Adele!). Wikipedia lists these songs as orchestral pop and R&B/soul.
“Peanuts!” is, I guess, electronic music, as it uses all synthesized MIDI instrumentation. It reminds me of something, but I really have no idea. It’s just weird and I love it.
"Jane’s A Car” leans towards country, but is still more of a rock song. Driving down a country road makes me think of modern country music.
“The Witch in the Web” is a sweet little indie folk song. I’m thinking like Ingrid Michaelson, Lenka, She & Him (Zooey Deschanel!), or the more chill Florence + The Machine songs.
“The Web I Spin For You” is indie pop and electronic. I could see a remix playing at a rave. It kind of reminds me “Yellow Flicker Beat” by Lorde, but really just the vibes.
“Honey Queen” is a parody of the stereotypical pageant song. For real, the Miss America pageant has its own song. As for genre, it’s a slow, sweeping jazz song.
“Latte Hatte” has two parts: the first is swing or boogie-woogie blues, like a burlesque show, while the chorus is mixed more with pop.
“Queen B” is electronic pop with a bit of rap--the verses are rapped, go Lauren! This type of heavily-electronic pop is reminiscent of Lady Gaga and Kesha. Specifically, I’m feeling “Bad Romance”, “Applause”, and “I Like It Rough” by Lady Gaga; and “Take It Off” by Kesha.
“The Nibbly Ditty” is EDM and reminds me of “Sandstorm” by Darude. The break in the middle (”Nibbly needs a sacrifice”) reminds me of a similar break in one Fall Out Boy song, “Tiffany Blews”, which is otherwise totally unrelated to this song...it’s just a weird association that my mind went to. Other than that, it’s just a cool and weird song.
“Perky’s Buds” is jazz, just listen to that sexy saxophone! The piano and drums also contribute to this feel.
“Axe Man” is electronic rock, but it takes influence from some iconic themes. “Abstinence Camp” as a story is an homage to teen slasher movies like “Friday the 13th”, “A Nightmare on Elm Street”, and “Scream”, so it follows that the anthem would do the same. The synthesizer/piano parts remind me of the themes from “Halloween” and “The Exorcist”. The whole thing reminds me of Stranger Things as well. Basically, any teen horror/sci-fi from or inspired by the 1980s and 1990s will fit the mood.
“Virginity Rocks” is alternative rock, but I can so imagine Boy Jerry and Girl Jeri singing this song at a church where the pastor wears jeans and is a Cool Guy™️. Christian rock is a strange thing in that one of the more famous groups is a metal group, but others are more indie. I grew up Catholic, so we sang hymns instead of those worship songs that try to get kids excited for Jesus. But I can just tell that “Virginity Rocks” would be a hit at Protestant youth groups.
“Young At Heart” is absolutely arena rock a la Journey or REO Speedwagon. I hear the similarities to “Don’t Stop Believin” or “Keep on Loving You”. The persistent piano, echoing drums, and powerful electric guitar really sell it.
“Killer Track”...uuuuuh, death metal. Is that too on the nose? Death metal and screamo.
“Run Away With Me” is 1980s pop in the same vein as Tiffany, Pat Benatar, Kate Bush, Bonnie Tyler, etc. Kim’s vocals also remind me of Kelly Clarkson, a 2000s pop star.
“Nightmare Time (Needy Beast cover)” is a 2000s punk rock cover of the main theme. Influences of both the instrumentation and Joey’s vocals include Blink-182, Sum 41, Yellowcard, Fall Out Boy, My Chemical Romance, Green Day, Bowling for Soup, Good Charlotte, etc.
“Yellow Jacket” is 1990s and 2000s punk and pop, but in the vein of Avril Lavigne, Alanis Morrissette, and Paramore. I can hear this type of song playing in a 2000s teen movie starring Lindsay Lohan.
“Use It or Lose It” is EDM and pop, but it specifically reminds me of Europop groups from the 1990s, like Aqua (Barbie Girl!), Toy-Box, and Ace of Base. Jaime’s high vocals really help sell it.
“Next Time” reminds me of “Seasons of Love” from Rent, which was probably purposeful on Jeff’s part. It also reminds me of Jim and the Povolos, a group featuring many StarKids and of which Jeff was a part at one point. It’s just kind of indie rock.
EDIT: Now, in 2023, we can finally add Nerdy Prudes Must Die to the lineup! A lot of the songs are rock or pop, like the previous stage shows and a lot of modern musicals. The vibes I get from many songs and the whole show remind me of musicals like Heathers, Be More Chill, Dear Evan Hansen, Mean Girls, etc. Here are several genre choices or specific references that stand out to me:
“Cool As I Think I Am” gives me “Waving Through a Window” or “Michael in the Bathroom” vibes: an awkward teen lamenting his awkwardness.
“Dirty Girl” is heavy on the sexy 80s synth, mixed in with some R&B grooves.
“Bully the Bully” and “Bury the Bully” have some swing vibes, and influenced by “Cool” from West Side Story (confirmed in commentary track)
“Go Go Nighthawks!” is a school fight song, which are generally inspired by classic American marches by composers like John Philip Sousa.
“Nerdy Prudes Must Die” is heavy rock, but the part I want to focus on is the piano motif that is featured frequently throughout the show. This motif is purposefully reminiscent of themes from classic horror movies like The Exorcist and Halloween.
“Just for Once” is supposed to be from an in-universe musical, The Barbecue Monologues, so Jeff had the opportunity to take inspiration from more traditional theatre. The song feels very Sondheim-esque (Jeff said the same in the commentary track), with the quick and clever lyrics and the back-and-forth between the verse and chorus and even the sort of “talking instead of singing”. I’m feeling like “On the Steps of the Palace” from Into the Woods, or “Ladies Who Lunch” from Company.
“If I Loved You”, as per the commentary track, is inspired by “Take Me or Leave Me” from Rent and “i2i” from A Goofy Movie. The first fits the message and vibes of a modern musical love song, and the second is just the musicality and instrumentation.
“The Summoning” is just pure chaos, honestly. And I love every second of it. The beginning is religious chanting, which I suppose is its own genre. The rest of the song is just insanity that transcends everything. Amazing.
“The Best of You” brings back that modern YA musical vibe again, almost perfectly bookending the show. It also has a 2000s pop-punk vibe that I really like! Fun fact from the commentary track: this was originally intended to be a song by the in-universe band Needy Beast, the band from Nightmare Time 2 episode “Killer Track”...hence the 2000s pop-punk feel.
And thus ends my StarKid and Musical Score series. There’s only a few StarKid musicals left in the rewatch, and I don’t feel as if the music in those is as strong--though I still enjoy them! I might make smaller posts, but this is the final big post. Thanks for reading all of this!
This post took way too long to make, but I hope you all think it was worth it! I really enjoy analyzing music like this, and I feel like this is one of the only ways I can contribute to new ideas in the fandom. My brain is spiraling from all of the Hatchetfield lore, but I can’t ever put any theories into words. I’m much better at doing this, even if I may have missed some obvious sound-alikes or references or missed the mark on some.

☕️Sun 27 Dec ‘20🦜
Niall is interviewed for an Irish radio show! It was recorded before Christmas, he says he was hoping to get home (“I'll be tested up to the eyeballs if I do come back anyway”). It's better than a print interview because the whole first minutes are Niall narrating the process of stirring a pot of french press coffee (“put the granules in... fill it with hot water...”), good stuff, and the interviewer being dumbfounded by how clean his kitchen is. They touch on how much better that is than the 1D tour bus (“it looked like... well I won't say. You can imagine... all the teenage boys...”), and more recent news-- he talks about the turnout for his livestream being double what he'd hoped it might get to (“it was madness, I just wasn’t expecting it”), but that he likes the travel part of touring and of course playing to an actual crowd, about Alone, the Irish charity for seniors he has been supporting, and that he hoped to get over to the US to record after Christmas.
Zayn was seen in the background of Hadid Christmas gathering attendees' posts with pale blue hair, and Liam and Roman are judging people: naughty or nice? Liam shoud go on the nice list for his inability to put anyone on the naughty list! Only Carole Baskin and Chanel, a troublemaking Liverpudlian parrot, get the thumbs down from him, with his seal of approval given to Roman (of course!), David Attenborough, Dixie D'Amelio, Bear (he's really cute imitating him), and Harry (“he’s never really lost himself, despite everything. After the band we didn’t speak for a long time actually, and I remember seeing him at Jingle Bell Ball, backstage for the first time in a long time. And he’s still the same guy he was when we left each other in that dressing room.”)

BROCKHAMPTON Celebrate ‘ROADRUNNER’ With Livestream Concert
Tumblr media
It’s been over a year since BROCKHAMPTON’s last live performance, and two years since their last album GINGER. Last week, they dropped their sixth studio album ROADRUNNER: NEW LIGHT, NEW MACHINE. In celebration of the release, they performed a digital concert from Rick Rubin’s Shangri-La studio in collaboration with digital platform Moment House.
The livestream, dubbed “Live from the Chapel,” opened with (of all things) Bearface on a horse singing Carole King’s “You’ve Got A Friend.” His cover was tender and refreshingly intimate for a broadcasted performance, although the real MVP of the song was the woman feeding the horse to keep it calm.
The feed then cut to Kevin Abstract onstage performing “BUZZCUT,” with the rest of the crew soon joining in. The frenetic lights and wailing instrumental were nearly visceral enough to induce pre-pandemic concert flashbacks (Flog Gnaw ‘19, anyone?). After playing a few ROADRUNNER songs, they treated fans to the older stuff: “BLEACH,” “GUMMY,” and “BOY BYE.”
Joba ran away with the live band-stretch of the show, especially during “THE LIGHT” and “TEXAS WATCHIN’ ME.” The latter, a scrapped ARIZONA BABY track, features slow-burning, jazzy production; maybe it was Joba’s singing (a solid cross between a croon and a drawl), the live band’s flawless execution, or the horn riffs that ushered in Kevin’s verse, but the four-minute-long performance left me wanting more.
The camaraderie between people at a live show is unmatched. It’s impossible to replicate pulling someone out of a mosh pit or crying with strangers during “SAN MARCOS” through a screen, but the BROCKHAMPTON fans in attendance gave it their best shot.
In almost perfect unison (save for the few audience members with laggy wifi) the chat erupted with “Go Merlyn” every time Merlyn performed a verse and “Where’s Shawn Mendes” during “COUNT ON ME” (which features vocals from Mendes and frequent collaborator Ryan Beatty). They fawned over Jabari’s newfound role as a singer and could recognize a song from the first two seconds of its instrumental.
BROCKHAMPTON are no strangers to the pressures of putting on a good show. Take their Coachella 2018 set. At the time, the self-proclaimed “best boyband since One Direction” had cultivated a dedicated fanbase and recently signed to RCA—they were right on the cusp of mainstream success. It was a moment the group had waited their whole lives for.
Equipped with matching bulletproof vests and a helicopter, they made a lasting impression. Since then, BROCKHAMPTON have performed at several other major music festivals, charted on the Billboard 200, achieved a TikTok hit, and scored their first platinum record. The set didn’t come without its complications, though. Bearface’s mic stopped working seconds before showtime, and their set was delayed. Afterwards, Kevin Abstract tweeted, “I’m sorry I let y’all down. It felt like a nightmare.”
Maybe it was the lack of a live audience, or the fact that they now have a few years under their belts, but there was no sign of that initial pressure on Friday night. They sauntered across the stage with the quiet assuredness of seasoned performers, wearing a loose dress code of baggy pants and puffer jackets. The individual members danced in planetary orbit, moving alone but feeding off of each other’s gravity. That’s not to say that this was a low-effort occasion. It’s clear from the live band arrangements, intricate set design, and the horse (naturally), that painstaking care went into planning this one-of-a-kind performance.
It’s hard to pinpoint an exact high point of the performance. BROCKHAMPTON played several bonus tracks, including ROADRUNNER cuts “PRESSURE / BOW WOW” and “SEX.” Jabari made his live debut. They were joined onstage by JPEGMAFIA, SoGone SoFlexy, Baird, and ssgkobe. And Joba’s mullet was even more glorious in live action.
All this aside, my favorite aspect of “Live from the Chapel” was seeing each member become engrossed in the music; it was clear from Bearface’s screamo “DON’T SHOOT UP THE PARTY” outro, Merlyn’s electrifying “BANKROLL” performance, and Dom’s meticulous breath control on “WINDOWS.” There are few experiences greater than watching artists you love get lost in their work, and that’s what makes every BROCKHAMPTON show such a pleasure to lose yourself in.

Halloween Charity Stream - Jumin Han
Alright I know this may not be everyone’s cup of tea (people were not horribly fond of my interview Jumin fic) but just trust me on this one. Let me take the wheel. Happy Halloween week! If you haven’t heard, I’ve randomly generating all the prompts for each character’s Halloween story this week
Prompts: Charity fundraiser, blindfolded “feely” challenge (idk what it’s called, I’ve seen it called “Mystery Box” before tho), TP Jumin’s house
Summary: Korea’s favorite married couple, the Hans are hosting a charity livestream this Halloween. You have a few tricks and treats and activities planned along the way to make up for Jumin’s lack of celebrating in the past.
Tonight was the night. A crew had been setting up lights and cameras and props in your living room all day for your charity livestream. You and Jumin had gotten a pretty good slot for the stream: 7 pm on Halloween on three national stations. You were also streaming on YouTube, of course. Today’s goal was to raise as much money for a Children’s Hospital as possible. The hospital had been looking for someone to host their event, and why not choose not only members of the RFA, one of the most sought-after party planning groups in the country, but also the country’s favorite couple.
This was actually you and Jumin’s second Halloween together, but first as a married couple. You were super excited! Jumin was not super into Halloween last year; you had to force him to dress up and even then he wouldn’t even carve a pumpkin! You had gone out of you way to prepare “tricks” and “treats” for him to get during the stream, hoping to push the spooky spirit into him.
You had on a burnt orange dress and Jumin had his usually suit on, but a tie with cartoony pumpkins on it. The outfits wouldn’t last for long; after the first milestone the two of you would change into Halloween costumes.
You were kind of nervous as you glanced at the clock, the seconds ticking down before the show started. Jumin, sitting next to you on the sofa, sensed your nerves and grabbed your hand. You had done interviews before and speeches at different events, but you had never run a show for a four-hour block. You were nervous. When they told you you were rolling, you didn’t even process it at first.
Luckily, Jumin spoke up, snapping you out of your gaze. “Hi everyone. And welcome to Halloween with the Hans. It’s me, Jumin Han, and my lovely wife with me tonight. We’re going to be accepting donations for the Korean Children’s Hospital.” He was such a natural. Such a show-off.
It was probably your turn to speak. “Now, for each milestone we hit in the next four hours, I’ve got a little surprise.” Jumin raised an eyebrow. “I’ve planned a trick or treat game on the side. You get to pull it out of the hat and see if you’ll get a trick or a treat.”
“To clarify,” Jumin told the camera. “I didn’t know about this.”
“Well it would be boring if there weren’t any surprises,” you teased him. “But the first milestone of the day will be a treat for the audience: Jumin and I will get dressed up in Halloween costumes, and those who donate get to vote for what we wear!”
“There are pretty out-there options. But if that’s what you all want we’ll do it for you,” Jumin chuckled. His eyes told a different story, pleading the audience to not pick what he was sure they would pick.
They picked it once the first milestone was hit. You cut to commercial and very quickly pulled your costume on, settling the headpiece so it sat in your hair just right. You grabbed Elizabeth the 3rd. She was sort of the star in this costume.
You and Jumin agreed to walk into the room at the same time to let the camera grab your reactions. When you saw him in a mullet, a baseball cap, and a tiger print shirt, you lost it, nearly dropping Elizabeth as you doubled over in laughter.
“Well you actually look okay! This isn’t fair. Did you put stripes on Elizabeth the 3rd?” He asked, extremely surprised to see the black (easily washable) marks on her white fur.
“She’s a tiger! And if you hadn’t guessed it yet, we are indeed dressed as Joe Exotic and Carole Baskin from the Tiger King show,” you explained to the camera, setting Elizabeth down before she got fussy.
“I hope you all enjoyed the wig but I cannot possibly keep it on. I will keep the hat though in good faith,” he apologized to the audience. You helped him fix his hair after he took the wig off, only for him to cover it up with the hat once again.
You squeezed Jumin in a sickeningly sweet hug. “Get your screen caps now people. He’ll never dress like this again.”
Eventually it was time for the first challenge. You held out a Jack-o-lantern trick or treating basket and made him pull out a piece of paper. “Trick.” He said, keeping his face expressionless.
“Oo! Fun. We’ll have to dive into the trick bucket then.” The trick bucket was a spoopy ghost bucket, much like the Jack o lantern.
“My Love, what in heaven’s name is a ‘feely game’?” He asked, trying to hold back his laughter but eventually failing.
“Oh!” You laughed too. “I didn’t really know what to call it. But no worries.” You grabbed three boxes that had been hidden under your coffee table. “I put some scary stuff in these boxes, and it’s your job to guess what they actually are.”
“Without looking, right?”
“Right. It’d be way too easy if you looked. I played this once at an elementary school Halloween party. Keep in mind, this is real food.” You pulled the first box closer to you. “First up: EYEBALLS!” You announced in the spookiest voice possible.
He simply shook his head, turning it so he couldn’t see into the box then feeling inside. It was just grapes. You had peeled grapes and hoped they felt like eyeballs. This was probably way harder for kids in retrospect. “Ew. I don’t like the way it feels.” He complained. He took his hand out of the box and wiped it on his jeans.
“Well? What are the eyeballs actually?”
“I don’t know. Olives?” He guessed.
“Close! Peeled grapes.” You opened the box to show him.
“What happens if I get it wrong?”
“Oh...” you hadn’t thought about that. “Nothing I guess. But everyone watching will make fun of you.”
“Oh boy. That’s the worst fate of all,” he confessed, a small smile on his face. He grabbed your hand and kissed your knuckles. He just couldn’t help himself. You were so cute.
“Next item!” You declared, pulling out of his grasp to grab the next box and keep the game going. “Guts!”
He seemed to get this one pretty quickly, only having to feel inside for a moment. “Those are noodles, right?”
“One point for Mr. Jumin Han! I knew you could do it. You might just redeem yourself yet. Last round,” you winked at him, grabbing the final box. “Hair.”
“Just... hair?” He questioned.
“Yes. Hair. Go ahead and feel it.”
He put his hand in and retracted it immediately, jumping in his seat closer to you, wiping his hand against your shirt. “That’s actually just hair. Did you just put your hair in there?”
“I didn’t realize you disliked hair so much, Honey,” you giggled, wrapping an arm around his waist to ‘protect him’. “You never seem to be bothered with Elizabeth the 3rds hair.”
“That is nothing like this. That is literally hair.”
“It’s not hair.”
“It is too hair.” He was pouting now.
You opened the box to show him and the camera. It was the ‘hair’ you took off he husk of the corn. “That is genuinely hair.”
“No! It’s part of corn!”
“They call it the hair of the corn. I think I’m right. Maybe we should ask the audience,” he glanced at the camera, “Please, let me be right over my wife just this one time.”
They, believe it or not, sympathized and sided with him.
Next prize was also a trick. He pulled out the next piece of paper. “T... P? As in toilet paper?”
“So, when you TP it’s basically you throwing toilet paper all over the exterior of the house. It’s like a Halloween prank,” you explained.
“How silly. Whose house are we TP-ing?” You saw the glint in his eyes. He just wanted to TP Zen’s house.
“We actually made a wheel to decide! Spin the wheel! Your options are our house, renowned photographer V’s house, Chief Assistant Jaehee Kang’s house, or famous actor Zen’s house,” you explained to the camera. You were pretty proud of the little wheel you made; it held up even with the strong spin Jumin made.
It landed on the little emoji of Jumin. “Guess we’re TP-ing our own house,” you chuckled. You went to go get a few rolls of toilet paper, and the camera crew helped you move outside.
“Have you done this before?” Jumin asked as the two of you walked outside. You shrugged. You’d never tell. “You little Minx, you.”
“So, if I remember correctly from the good old days when this was a thing,” you handed Jumin a roll so he could follow along, “you unroll a little, and then just yeet it at the house.” Your throw went sailing over the house, leaving a nice trail behind. Jumin’s roll hit the side of the house without unraveling, then bounced back.
“I think I did it wrong.” He commented blankly.
“Alright, let me help.” You stood behind him, covering his hand with your own to help him perfect his form. “For everyone watching, this is why you need a partner. So that they can teach you how to TP your own house,” you joked to the camera. Jumin was blushing bright red from the close contact on live television, but you were far too focused on the perfect throw to care. It was flawless. It sailed over the house.
“Wait, that was kind of fun. Let me try on my own now.” Jumin offered. You handed him another roll. Next you’d have to go to the side of the house to keep going with the previous rolls. His next throw was perfect we well.
He went over-the-top with his throwing. It was more like he was decorating your house in the end, aiming perfectly so that each roll could fall where he wanted it to. The house actually looked pretty cool. You’d clean it up tomorrow (A/N: y’all this is a Covid free story don’t be TPing houses in this economy)
The viewers really seemed to enjoy that segment. A few more tricks and treats (which were mainly just candy or a kiss) later and you were onto the last gift of the night. “Alright, before we close things up, we’re going to do the last trick or treat,” you announced. You grabbed the basket, with one piece of paper in it, and held it out to Jumin.
He didn’t bother looking away to grab it, opening it up. “Treat. What a good way to end the night.” He was glowing. It had been a good stream overall, you had raised three times the money you had expected to.
“And for your final treat of the night...” you opened the last slip of paper for him, showing it to him and the cameras. It just read “surprise” in big bold letters.
“Surprise? What’s that mean?” He asked, taking the paper from your hands to inspect it for any other potential markings. There were none.
“I’ve been saving this one. Kind of appropriate it was the last thing actually,” you grinned, pulling an envelope out from behind the pillow you were sitting by. You handed it to Jumin. “Open it up.” You couldn’t contain your smile.
He opened it very meticulously, ensuring not to rip the envelope. He pulled out the piece of paper on top. “A kitten is on the way?” He read, extremely confused. Your grin was unmistakable now.
“Wait! Is Elizabeth the 3rd pregnant!?” He seemed appalled. “This is not a treat.”
“No. I’m pretty sure she can’t get pregnant Jumin,” you giggled.
“Then what could that mean? A kitten...” he was hopelessly lost. His thinking face was so cute yoi almost didn’t want to help him out, but you were so excited.
“The audience chose well. Look at our costumes, Honey.” You explained, grabbing his hand in yours.
He looked down at your outfits. “Tiger King. Carole Baskin. Cool cats and kitt- you’re pregnant!?” He exclaimed, dropping the envelope.
“Our own little kitten is on the way,” you confirmed excitedly. He pulled you into a hug instantaneously. You could feel his chest shaking with laughter. You couldn’t wipe the stupid smile off your face. This was just perfect.
He may have been hugging you for a little too long. “Jumin, Love. We still are on the air,” you reminded him.
He pulled back, still with his arms around you too though. “You all heard it here first, with me huh? Thank you for coming out tonight and donating. You’re helping so many children in need. And hey, guess you never know when a child may come into your life.” He glanced at you, smiling. He also couldn’t get the stupid grin off his face.
“Good night all. Happy Halloween,” you bid the audience goodnight.
The first thing Jumin did after the program ended was pull you into a loving kiss.

If The West Wing Characters Were YouTubers
Josh: Makes reaction videos and callout posts, always involved in the latest YouTube drama, gets “cancelled” like every other week, but his subscribers are very loyal to him. Volatile, argumentative, will literally debate anyone who wants to come on his channel
Sam: Makes videos covering lots of topics: relationships, friendships, books, movies, music, the occasional DIY project, sports, outdoor activities (his subscribers have a running joke about “don’t fall out of the boat” due to an...unfortunate incident on a livestream). Always cheerful and upbeat. Ends all of his videos with an encouraging sign-off phrase about how awesome his followers are. Everyone’s unproblematic fave (except for a few people who don’t like that he’s friends with Josh)
Toby: Makes rant videos. Famous for starting each video calmly discussing the topic of the week, only to end up pacing around and yelling by the end of it.
C.J. Does a lot of “Story Time” videos, where she talks about ridiculous things that could only happen to her, weird dates she’s been on, adventures in clothes shopping as a tall woman, etc. Her subscribers love her because she’s charming and engaging, and can tell mundane stories in a way that makes them funny. Has her goldfish bowl in the background of most videos. If Gail doesn’t appear in a video, the comments are filled with “OMG where’s the fish?” questions.
Charlie: Sports recaps, reaction videos to white people nonsense, the occasional GoPro video of him playing basketball with his friends or his sister. Ends most videos by recommending charities and organizations his followers can donate to.
Bartlet: Long, boring videos of him sitting in a leather chair in his study, rambling about economics, ancient history, classical music, national parks, etc. Doesn’t have a lot of subscribers, but the ones he has all passionately share his niche interests. Sometimes a couple of professors will get into heated arguments over minute details in the comments. His channel is called Dr. Bartlet Discusses, and each video is titled accordingly (e.g., Dr. Bartlet Discusses Shenandoah National Park), but Josh refers to the channel as Encyclopedia Bartletannica. Josh doesn’t actually watch Bartlet’s videos; none of the others do either, because they get enough of these lectures from him in real life.
Leo: Doesn’t know what YouTube is
Will: Goes out on the streets and asks people questions about the topic of the week, then films himself back at home discussing all the answers he got. Produces quality content that his subscribers genuinely like, but people have discovered that he’s easy to make fun of, because he can give as good as he gets. His fans have turned roasting him in the comments into a competitive sport
Danny: An investigative series where he dissects, fact checks, and critiques the top news stories of the week. Sometimes trolls in the comment section accuse him of being a shill for the liberal media, but he just ignores them
Joey: Makes videos about social issues, relationships, her favorite books and movies, and humorous observations about current events. Does the occasional video about Deaf issues, and every so often collabs with other prominent Deaf YouTubers, but it’s not the main focus of her channel.
Kenny: Does music and movie reviews, talks about LGBT issues (Kenny is gay in my headcanon), and the occasional reaction video (he tries to keep his reactions mostly positive)
The Assistants (Carol, Margaret, Bonnie, Ginger, Donna, etc.): Videos about the modern workplace—their pet peeves, funniest stories, gossip and the ways information travels among assistants, best and worst bosses, etc.
Most popular collabs:
Toby and C.J.: They’re perfect foils for each other; there is an ongoing, mostly friendly rivalry among their fans, some of whom ship them, and others who think they’re just really good friends
Charlie and C.J.: It all started when C.J. filmed herself pulling a prank on Charlie, and it turned into a full-on prank war. Some of their viewers think the pranks are fake (they're not)
Joey and Kenny: They collab all the time; their collabs are just these fun, lighthearted videos with, like, inside jokes and stories about their friendship and stuff like that
Josh and Joey: Their livestreamed debates are the most watched videos on their channels; things get very heated, and the live chat always goes crazy
Josh and Sam: A huge portion of their subscribers ship them
Toby and Bartlet collaborated once. It did not go well. They didn’t speak to each other for a month afterwards

Tuesday, December 24th, Sailor Moon Day
SUPER S SPECIAL! I cannot wait to laugh all over again about fucking Michiru and the wine pouring, she is the worst and I love her so much.
A VERY JEWEY CHRISTMAS starring Me, Momigay, and The Christmas prince. We’re going to get fucking wasted, have Chinese food delivered (Via Santa Nickels and her Subaru Sleigh) and stream A Christmas Prince 3: The Royal Baby. I GUARANTEE WE ARE MORE FUN THAN YOUR FAMILY UNLESS THEY ARE SUPER COOL.
Wednesday, December 25th, Non-Animated Day One
THE GOOD PLACE! I am several seasons behind, so this should be interesting, (I may have to take a break for Young Jews Chinese Buffet, but I’ll return)
A CHRISTMAS CAROL LIVE READING! Like last year, I am literally going to read a Christmas Carol aloud, in my living room. It was great fun last year, and it is the most relevant Christmas story of all!
Thursday, December 26th, Miscellaneous Day
HOLLIGAY COOKING DAY! An all day extravaganza devoted to all kinds of cooking stuff, depending on what you want to see!
Friday, December 27th, Animation Day Two
A PLACE FURTHER THAN THE UNIVERSE! I know nothing about this anime and will be starting from episode one, which is always fun for me! Let’s find out what we’re in for!
Saturday, December 28th, Non-Animated Day Two
GREAT BRITISH BAKE-OFF! It’s been a long long time since I’ve liveblogged bakeoff, BUT WE ALL REMEMBER ME SICCING THE BEES ON TOM.
ANASTASIA! Let’s livestream perhaps the finest princess movie of the 90s. I wish I could make this a Harumichi AU but lbr it’s a Reinako AU, and haruka is Vlad and Sophie is Michiru.
Sunday, December 29th, Utena Day
WAKABA FLOURISHING! Hours of me pouring over how much I fucking love Wakaba, and how Saionji is hilariously terrible, it will truly be a great day of all of us. (This day will start a bit early, as I have my fonjew party that night)
Monday, December 30th, Wild Card Day!
I will be drawing TWO things from the losers pile, and making them winners! I’ll spend three hours on one, and three on the other, so there’s still hope if your thing didn’t get through!!
ARE YOU READY I HOPE YOU’RE READY!! It’s also my beloved Hanukkah Mercy season, when I get to use my Mercy icons!! I can’t wait to show them off again, and thank the artists who made them.

Shipwrecked is now on Patreon!
After a lot of thought and discussion (and, a pretty weird meeting as you can see in the video), we’ve decided to launch a Patreon. We’re hoping that this will help support us financially as a group, enable us to make more content more often, and give us a way to connect with you all on a regular basis!
What is Patreon? It’s an awesome way of crowdfunding that helps creators be supported directly by their audience. Rather than a one-time pledge, like on Kickstarter, you can pledge to support us at a monthly level. That way, we continually have money coming in for all the various fees we have, writing we’re doing, or on-set production costs. And you get cool things in return and become a part of our Shipwrecked Patreon community. Here are the different rewards you can sign up for:
$1/month - Each month you will get access to a written update detailing what all we've been up to.
$5/month - Not only will you will get a written update detailing what we've all been up to in the month, but you'll also unlock an exclusive patrons-only vlog as well as early access to all our videos!
$10/month - All of the above, as well as access to a monthly 2-hour Shipwrecked livestream just for patrons.
$15/month - At this level we'll send you a monthly postcard featuring a beautiful BTS image from one of our productions or a photo from one of our vintage shoots, signed by us and sent to your home. You'll also get access to our exclusive bts twitter with production updates, just for patrons. Plus all of the above!
$25/month - BTS heaven! At this level, you'll receive access to pinterest boards, scripts, production diaries, spreadsheets--every behind the scenes aspect of our production process. Plus all of the above!
$50/month - At this level you will receive a handwritten note either from a historical figure of note or from a Shipwrecked character. Always wanted to correspond with Lady Lenore? Now's your chance! Not only that, but each month you will get an audio download of a different Poe Party author's actor reading an excerpt from one of their works. Sean Persaud reading Poe? Joey Richter reading Hemingway? Yes please. Also includes all of the above.
$100/month - This level ensures you will get your name in the credits of each video you help support. You'll also get an exclusive signed poster for the projects we complete that you've supported, and a monthly digital movie night with those of us here at Shipwrecked--and you get to help us choose the movie! Also includes all of the above.
$250/month - At this level you will get a monthly half-hour skype session with us. Not only that, but you get to name a character in one of our projects! Also includes every other tier reward.
We also have goals for fun things that we’ll do when we reach certain funding milestones! Our first 2 goals at $250/month and $500/month have already been met! These goals will help us cover all our expenses we have as an operating group and let us host a livestream reading of the Clue screenplay for all patrons - and you get to help us cast the roles.
Look out for our next goal because at $1000/month we can begin committing to work on a Shipwrecked calendar for 2020 full of brand new vintage shoots featuring handsome men and lovely ladies. Patrons will get the first opportunity to buy it!
We are so excited to embark on this journey, and we hope you will be too. Rather than launching mini-crowdfunding campaigns like we did with American Whoopee and Cryptmas Carol, we hope that having a Patreon will enable to us receive support on a rolling basis and that will help us make more stuff more often. And help support us as we go on meetings, write pitches, and plan for the future.
So, what are you waiting for? Join us on Patreon!

hi carol!!! i’m wondering if you have any tips/thoughts on highlighter? ive never tried it before, but i’m thinking of buying the glossier haloscope one and trying it out. is it worth it? highlighter seems cool, and yours in your livestreams is always soooo pretty ❤️ would you say you need lots of other products for it? or would it be fine to apply on its own? i looked this up online but the articles i read said a lot of different stuff, so i’m wondering what your thoughts are? thank you! ❤️✨
AAAAAH ur so sweet!! this made me so happy bc,,, i actually dont usually wear highlighter in my livestreams so dfgjsdlfkgj thank u so much!! it is nice im ngl - i really like the haloscope one in quartz bc it’s so easy to apply, as well as being v natural looking and long lasting. it’s honestly up to you if you want to buy other products along with it, as with anything, but i don’t think you need much, especially if you’re just branching into makeup! it’s definitely ok to apply it on its own since it’s more of an enhancing optional product than a base product like foundation if that makes sense. i would definitely recommend the glossier haloscope if you’re looking for a v natural, subtle lit from within glow ✨  if ur looking for something more dramatic though it might not be exactly what you’re looking for bc in general, glossier’s products tend to be quite sheer + natural looking (which is what i like but it might not float everyone’s boat).
(psst: if ur looking for something more dramatic that won’t break the bank, colourpop also do amazing highlighters!)
