Rick leaned so hard into the incest for the first few books. There’s so many of these scattered throughout the books, causally mentioning that all of the campers share facial features and the traits their godly parents like the most. Not to mention calling each other by familial names (cousin, sister, uncle, etc…).
He should have just leaned into it instead of trying to retcon it and then retconning his retcon in the same paragraph.
“But the thing is, the godly side of your family doesn’t count, genetically speaking, since gods don’t have DNA.”
Well, that’s not what the other four books say but alright. We can pretend that this is what Rick meant all along. Problem solved. oh wait, there’s more…
“A demigod would never think about dating someone who had the same godly parent. Like two kids from Athena cabin? No way.”
But they’re not related. You just said they aren’t related. Most of the campers are also only there for summer, so they aren’t “like siblings” or “raised together as siblings” and they aren’t adopted. Why wouldn’t they date if they wanted to?
“But a daughter of Aphrodite and a son of Hephaestus? They’re not related. So it’s no problem.”
Yes, we know they aren’t related because gods don’t have DNA and because they aren’t “like siblings” or “raised together as siblings” or adopted. Kind of like how Annabeth and Malcolm aren’t related, aren’t like siblings, weren’t raised together as siblings, and aren’t adopted. So there’s no problem with Annabeth and Malcolm dating.

It’s so funny to me that they are apparently making another Mass Effect game that’s going to function as a direct sequel to the original trilogy. How are they going to do that. Are they going to pick and canonize one of the endings. Do they have any idea of the uproar that will cause after they presented all three endings as equal. Why would they do this to themselves.

Maya and Carina finally got to talk and express how they really feel and what they need going forward. For Carina, I think this conversation not only reflected her solo confessions from 6b, it also called back on previous seasons. It’s obvious here she’s telling Maya what she cried about in 6x10 and to Vic and Diane in 6x11. She was afraid how easy it is for her to run back to Maya because how deeply and madly she’s still in love with Maya. She’s also afraid of getting hurt again, because up until now, it was always her making efforts and taking compromises to keep their relationship going (not saying Maya never did). She needs Maya to chase after her now. She needs to feel that she matters to Maya. She needs to know that she’s not someone irrelevant or could be pulled around like a doll by Maya.
More deeply, I think her fear, distrust, and doubt about their relationship and about Maya also relate to Maya’s betrayal and how easily Carina forgave her back in s3. So maybe that’s why Carina is so cautious and hesitant on going back to Maya. It’s her subconscious mind protecting her from getting hurt again- the first time she was there for Maya at her lows, Maya lashed out and slept with Jack to hurt Carina (as a way to push her away). Carina was hurt, but she took Maya back and forgave/trusted her so easily, and look where that got her? Yes, Maya was sincere when she apologized then, but it did not solve the root problems of her outburst behavior. Things only seemed fine on the surface, once Maya got demoted, everything just fells apart- Maya went spiraling down her dark path, and their relationship suffered. Once again, Maya refused to take Carina’s advice and pushed Carina away. Through it all, Carina was nothing but patient and relentless on helping Maya and being there for Maya. Somehow this second time, their relationship ended up in a even messier situation than before. The up side is that Maya didn’t intentionally hurt Carina this time, but the down side is worse, she acted so extreme that she was literally running herself to death, and that truly terrified Carina.
With their previous bad track records, I totally get Carina’s despite her really wanting to be with Maya, she still needs to know that this time the foundation that Maya’s talking about is real- 1) Maya finally addresses and makes an effort to heal from her childhood trauma. 2) Maya proves to Carina that she does matter to Maya and from now on she will cherish her and their relationship as they deserve. I also believe that Carina sees Maya’s change and realizes that this time is different so that’s why she’s giving Maya the chance to win her back, slowly.
