- I’ve said it before, but Callie thinks that Arizona is brilliant at what she does. Like, she has a lot of respect and time for many of the attendings at Seattle Grace, but there’s something about Arizona that she finds remarkable. Callie loves kids, she really does, but she always found paeds one of the harder orientations. It’s either devastation at dying children or frustration at irritating teenagers, she just can’t hack it. But Arizona is amazing at it. And Callie finds that incredible. And not only that, Arizona is an insanely skilled surgeon - she’s really good at problem solving and comes up with really impressive suggestions to difficult issues that Callie is so impressed by. They’ve been in the OR, and have been faced with an issue, and Arizona handles it with such practiced ease. Sometimes, Callie runs things by her just to get a second opinion, and Arizona produces something she’d never even thought of. If it were anyone else, it’d be annoying, threatening even, but Callie doesn’t find her threatening, instead she just admires her so much.
- Callie low-key thinks that Arizona’s taste in tv and films is trash. Like, Arizona puts on the worst detective drama that’s so predictable, or a silly action film with a very flawed plotline. But Arizona enjoys them so much that Callie finds herself loving them, if not solely for how she gets to watch Arizona smile and laugh and cower and hide behind her cushion. It’s more entertaining than the show, and it makes her heart swell. So she doesn’t mind when Arizona puts something on that she knows is gonna be trash, because she knows she’ll enjoy it just as much as watching a decent film, if not more so.
- Callie is a big playlist person. She has a playlist for just about every mood and situation ever, for driving, for feeling sad, for feeling excited, for after a bad surgery, for a party, for a dinner party. She’s actually quite renowned for her playlists - she’s often given the aux or the speaker or left to cultivate the music for an event, because she’s very good at getting the mood right, and listens to such a wide variety of genres. She also has a playlist called ‘Arizona’. Arizona didn’t know it existed for a long time, and stumbled upon it by accident one day. It only has a few songs on it, maybe 7 or 8, but she looked them all up, and it made her cry. She didn’t fully understand some of the songs, but she could tell for sure that they all had a lot of meaning behind them - for some songs it was obviously, others less so. She wanted to ask Callie about it, but also didn’t want her to know that she knew about it just in case she didn’t want her to.

I personally don't think Kate and Lucy want kids, they both work in dangerous jobs and are risking their lives every day, especially Lucy, so they would not want to put their potential kid through that. They may be good around kids like Tennant or Jesse's kids but it doesn't mean they wanna raise them. And also personally I find that fandom likes their ships having kids, I see people headcanon or even in canon have wlw couples raise children thinking it would complete them and there's nothing wrong with having children but I would also like to see a wlw couple, or any TV couple tbh, make the conscious decision not to have kids because they're happy as they are and they're being real about how a child would complicate things. And then stick to that decision too and not make one of them lie about it and having that lie come up in future episodes just for the drama.
Oooh thanks for weighing in on this! It’s interesting to me because as a closeted high schooler I was obsessed with Callie and Arizona from grey’s anatomy and I LOVED fic about them having kids, I loved imagining them with a family that included children, etc. I think to me at that time the idea that they could be together and have kids signaled that I could have kids someday too and that I wouldn’t be a pariah. Now, at the advanced age of 27, I still want kids but I also recognize how messed up the calzona storyline was (like, why tf was she having mark’s baby??) and I know that shows continue to push weirdly heteronormative pregnancy SLs on wlw couples even tho not every woman wants to have children. As if having children is the only way for a woman to be whole.
ANYWAY this is my super long winded way of saying that I also think it would be cool and novel to show them consciously deciding that they don’t want kids and are truly happy with each other. And I think it would fit both of their characters to be more good with other people’s kids but preferring not to have their own. I highly doubt that at this early season of the show they’re going to be having any kid discussions anyway…

God all these headcanons are making me realize that s7 could've actually been fun!
the bare bones of s7 have so much potential. there’s sort of two routes imo to improving s7 - either scrap africa all together and let calzona start taking more steps together or lean into the africa and either the baby/mark drama or just the mark drama

weirdly we had very similar thoughts on this with scorpio az and sagittarius callie
i definitely agree that there’s air in arizona’s chart (charming, gregarious, etc) and that softness of hers, as well as that sense of an inherent good/bad moral dichotomy, really felt libra to me. and arizona with a sagittarius mercury is just so accurate to how conflict avoidant she is
callie’s superstar with a scalpel schtick felt very “leo in the big three” to me. i feel like people jump to earth signs for callie because she’s so stubborn and so straightforward, but to me she reads fire through and through. plus a capricorn mercury feels like it would add that stubbornness and that straightforwardness without overpowering the impulsive/hotheaded/proud fire placements
i wanted to give calzona some symmetry/intrinsic compatibility within their charts, so i made their sun and risings inverse of each other— not as strong of a compatibility indicator as if it were a sun/moon inverse but still allowing them insight to how the other person works.

Your Calzona custody made me think about how your OTPS would split custody if they divorced? Do you think it would be an ugly battle, or would they figure it out? Would one want more custody time than the other? Like would they think that C/K should be with the child or childrens more than T/E? What do you think?

Look - you know my answer... in my headcanons... my precious pairings are happily coupled and madly in love until their dying breath. In my fantasyland, there is definitely an afterlife, and they will meet there and share their love for all time and eternity... but then, there are AUs. 😉
I'd like to think that if either pairing ended their marriage after having children, they'd be mature, thoughtful, and do what is best for their children. And, truthfully, in the end, I think they would... but that does not mean that they would from the start.
Divorce is hell. Rare are the relationships that end "mutually and amicably" where the couple just "decides it wasn't meant to be and moves on." Like, really, how many of those do you know of? Most of the time, one person wants out more than the other, maybe a little more, maybe a lot more, but it's rarely 50/50. The person who does not want out will be hurt and angry. Is there another person involved? Even if cheating wasn't in the picture? Is Mr or Ms. I-Want-Out now out and living their best life while the other is home weeping over a box of Mallomars? Has one of them coupled up with their cute new sidekick while the other thinks the open wound will never heal? These do NOT make for logical thinking or healthy decision-making.
Even when you THINK you're doing the right thing, sometimes you're not. Even when you THINK you're not reacting emotionally, you are. Sometimes you THINK you're putting your child's needs first, and you're not... you may even realize this many years later, but the damage is done.
So while I don't think Ethan, Kaycee, Tobias or Casey would ever want to make things ugly or fight nasty with the kids, oh they very well might if they found themselves in these situations. Especially in that crazy time when you're being ripped apart and don't even know how to heal... I don't know if it would be good.
Would Ethan say he's taken a step back in his career (because he can) and would be able to spend more quality time with their child, so he should have more custody? He might. Would Casey flip out if she realized Tobias was seeing someone new and they were around her children, especially if she didn't want the divorce? You better believe it. And let her find out that he was on a date and the kids were with his mom on a night he had custody - and she was sitting home alone, missing her family. I could give more examples, but you get the drift.
So, long story short, even with couples who are smart, loving, good people underneath it all... they would absolutely have missteps that range from minor to huge. That said, in the end, I think they'd be logical and do right by their children, but getting there would be a bumpy road ... even for them.

If you’ve watched grey’s anatomy, what did you think about calzona?
I was irritated with the writers because they made the wlw couple suffer more than any other couple.
Also Callie was wearing thin on these nerves because she’s the one that wants to leave but then she wants to work things out but then nvm jk she wants to end things again.
Omg, when she was trying to move Sophia across the country I was about to pull up on shonda rhimes because I was hurt and mad 😤

Ooh yes of course!
- Callie is a relatively new vampire, and by that I mean like, the past 100 years, maybe. I can perhaps see her as part of some big ancient vampire dynasty (though not one that she’s particularly attached to), but she’s not that old herself.
- Her normal MO is to have a bit of fun with her prey. She’s not a mean or spiteful person, and would never hurt anyone she actually cared about, but she also did the whole ‘eating exclusively bad people people that deserved it’ thing, but eventually got a bit bored. Going for someone she was into, getting her flirt on and taking them somewhere more private was infinitely more interesting, and she got a nice dinner out of it.
- She meets Arizona some time in the early 2000s. At a busy bar in a busy city on a busy evening. As usual, she finds her attention caught by the blonde, and decides she’ll do. Equally as usual, it doesn’t take too much before Arizona is content to ditch the bar in favour of somewhere more private.
- Only, when they reach the point where she’d usually go in for the kill, where there is a whole delicious cocktail of hormones that she can literally smell racing through Arizona’s bloodstream, she bares her teeth, and then finds she can’t bring herself to do it. Because Arizona does not look scared, nor does she look confused or out of it. She looks perfectly aware, like she knows what Callie is about to do. And something about it throws Callie off, as does the piercing blue of her eyes in that moment. And for the first time ever, Callie doesn’t go in for the kill. Instead, she lets Arizona get dressed and leave. And she strangely isn’t shocked when Arizona exits with the words ‘I’m sure I’ll see you around’.

Hi, omg I thought I was the only one who noticed the parallels to Calzona but then you said that you noticed them too and I really think that there were a lot of similarities. I also had kind of a hc that lucy would go to the grave of Kates brother and kind of ask for permission to marry her. Idk what to think about that yet but yeah.
Aw that's such a sweet headcanon 😭I definitely think that now that Lucy knows about Kate's brother she will be extra thoughtful and supportive in whatever way she can.
Somewhat tangentially related, I thought it was fascinating that Lucy had never Googled Kate...does this mean she had also never Facebook or IG stalked her?? Idk maybe Lucy is just not as attached to her phone as I am.

i love all these headcanons! poor sofia would definitely be a problematic child. i can also easily imagine she would hate her sibling, which would be heartbreaking for arizona. i also think this would be the end of callie and mark's friendship, even callie wouldn't tolerate mark deliberately sabotaging their parenting. i could see mark even going as far as to take callie to court to sue her for sole custody when calzona tell him they're moving. when they ask him if he could take sofia for a few days so they can settle in with their newborn, he'd accuse them of replacing sofia. he would definitely accuse arizona of not caring about sofia and of course she wants her own biological baby, he might even try to convince callie of that. and this is all without the plane crash. with the plane crash and grieving mark, it becomes even more of a mess
completely all of this. as terrible as it is, i really do think sofia would not like her sibling at all.
consider a plane crash but where alex went instead of arizona bc calzona were actively in the middle of trying and arizona who’s pregnant while mark is grieving and a mess and alex needs someone to lean on

so apart from the obvious(mark) what are things(headcanons, theories etc) that are liked or just largely accepted in the fandom but you just can’t get behind them? for example for me personally it’s calzona having kids in new york. there’s maybe like one fic where it doesn’t irk me as much but in general when there’s a kid named timothy or mark or both i’m like “alright, sorry, imma head out”
yeah no this is exactly how i feel too, like i completely understand why people want to give calzona more kids in new york— it’s what they always wanted, and we love them, and we want them to have their happy ending! i fully respect it!
but, for me, i kind of like the idea that the reality of happiness isn’t perfection. i like the idea of them mourning a child they never got the chance to have more than i like the idea of them getting everything they wanted. i like calzona, mid 60s-early 70s, holding their first grandchild and, yes, feeling so happy but also feeling maybe a little bit jealous. calzona, 50-ish, picking out names for children they both know they’ll never have. calzona letting what they have be enough and accepting those moments of sadness as part of being alive
