luck be a lady
warnings: alcohol use, drug use if you squint, newly sober Matty, swearing, gambling. Enjoy!
author note: go try calimochos, they’re delicious and very easy to make at home!
Tumblr media
It is 12am and a newly sober Matty makes his way to the casino floor from his lonely hotel room. The rest of the boys currently getting high in George’s room. He bid them farewell about an hour ago, excusing himself and them sympathetically understanding his need to leave.
His tie now undone, top two buttons of his wrinkled white shirt open, hair perfectly messy. He had to admit, he looked fucking hot tonight. Dress pants still miraculously creased down the center and worn in, scuffed brown shoes as comfortable as slippers. He adjusts his hair one last time, pulling it up and away from his face and licks his chapped lips. Sauntering out towards the roulette tables, he spots a bar. There is not a soul at the chairs surrounding it, the bartender taking the quiet moment to clean glasses. He decides to wait a bit and play a round of Texas hold ‘em with people much more knowledgeable about it than him. 20 minutes later, he is down $500 and decides to take the loss and quench the thirst thats been bothering him since he lost the first round against a lady named Susan who was in a Hawaiian shirt and had the worst smoker’s cough he’s ever heard.
Now making his way to the bar, he spots a girl. Not a girl, scratch that. An almighty. She is laughing at some probably horrendous joke the bartender just made. Head thrown back, raven hair cascading down her back, babydoll dress hugging her frame like it was crafted by Persephone herself. A flush covers her freckled cheeks and eyes the most incredible shade of cinnamon he has ever seen. Her laugh like Mozart to his ears. He takes the seat besides her, hands shaking excitedly in his lap.
“Yeah, Can I get whatever she is drinking mate? Thanks!” He asks the bartender who is now sending the new arrival death glares for interrupting their conversation.
“Its called kalimocho, I don’t know if you’ll like it. Might be too sweet for your tastes.” She informs him.
“Oh is that right? Whats in it, love? Just looks like red wine to me.” He abruptly replies, not meaning to come across curt, but probably sounding like a twat to the poor girl.
“Its red wine and some coca cola and a little lemon juice.” Her tone now reflecting his coldness. How dare he be so abrasive when he’s the one who sat next to her. How dare his neck look so pretty and practically begging to have a hand wrapped around it. How dare he look like a goddamn dream to her tired eyes.
“Okay, sounds good to me. I’ll still take one, mate.” He adds, looking towards the bartender in an attempt to smooth over some of the wrinkles in the conversation.
The bartender quickly makes another in a tall glass, adds an orange peel and hands it to Matty.
“What’s your name by the way, love? Might as well know it if we are going to drink together…” He nods in thanks to the bartender and slides him a tip that is well over the 20% normal in America. She doesn’t know if this is out of generosity or a way to get in her pants by flaunting his wealth. She gives him the benefit of the doubt and replies to the question.
“Nora. My name’s Nora. And yours?” She interjects. She takes a small sip of the cocktail awaiting his response. Desperately wanting to know this handsome stranger’s name.
“Matthew, but everyone calls me Matty. You can call me whatever you like, Darling.” He swiftly answers. Pleased with his answer, she throws him a wink. Mascara coated eyelashes accentuating her sultry makeup flawlessly.
He takes a swig of the cocktail, humming into the glass as the name Nora fills his brain. How sweet. How gentle. How totally perfect of a name for such a creature as she.
“Will do, handsome.” She brazenly flirts. “Would you wanna go play some roulette or a slot machine by any chance? Stretch our legs a bit?” She adds, hoping he’ll accept her offer.
“With you? I’ll do anything, love.” He gets up and walks with her to the slots. He takes a minute and admires the way she can be so comfortable in a place like this - with drunken men much older than her surely oogling and ogling at her every movement. He commends her for being so confident i herself and completely strong while being a lamb surrounded by lions. Matty’s face shrivels up and shoulder shake in disgust at the repulsive thoughts the men must be thinking about her. She takes a seat getting ready to put her cash into the machine, startled when she feels his strong, long fingers squeezing around her shoulder and stupidly perfect lips dip in towards her ear.
“Luck be a lady, baby.” He whispers, nipping at her earlobe.
She practically moans, shivering as various vile thoughts begin to cloud her judgement. Goosebumps covering her skin.
“Don’t fuck with me right now, Handsome.” She clips, not wanting the distraction as her nerves build. Pressing the button to start the machine, anticipation killing her.
He smirks at the effect his small action has on her, intelligent eyes roaming over her and the screen waiting for the result.
A few moments later, sirens start blaring, the screen illuminating brightly with neon colors. They read the screen in awe….
“Jackpot, $35,000 dollars…….” They mutter in shock. Surely, she’s dreaming. None of this can be real. Not him. Not his hands on her shoulders. Not his eyes now staring at her in awe. Not his lips parting perfectly as he gasps.
Coming back to reality, she leaps up from the seat as he takes her in his arms. The muscles in his arms wrapping tightly around her waist, her chest pressing into his, she stands on the balls of her feet in order to reach him. He glances down for half a second over her shoulder and catches the glimpse of her butt in that dress. He nearly drops to his knees right then and there, willing and ready in-front of the whole casino. He reels himself in, coming back ti the goddess in-front of him. Nora, the name consuming his every thought. God, what he would give to say her name like a prayer in the dark of the night.
He kisses her deeply, hungrily, needy. She kisses him like her life relies on it. The both of them drinking the other in and only releasing when their collective oxygen runs out. All of the people around them disappear. They don’t notice the guy walking over to her with the cash filled suitcase. They don’t notice the machine’s sounds and lights anymore. They don’t notice the whole casino clapping and cheering.
In that moment, it is just them. Him and Her. Nothing else.

Shifting into german mode.
Fun fact: Other than with his 2P, Deetje doesn't care for 1P America. . She doesn't hate him, but ironically often forgets his name. And when she was germanys maid he was one of her least favourite guests to host. She has varying levels of misophonia and her most sensitive one is hearing ppl chew food so u can understand the kind of stress she's under with him :')
Translation for the first pic: Deetje is drinking red wine mixed with cola, usually called Calimocho which is also called "kalte muschi" here in germany which translates to "cold pussy" :^)

I like to imagine that the Stars specialize in cooking the cuisines of the cultures or ethnicities they’re associated with, either via general aesthetics or because of their creator’s ethnicity or native culture- If, uh, that makes sense, haha. Hope you don’t mind me ramblinggg- Also Ink gets more because he’s got two cultures I associate him with whoops-
Like! I think Ink would be good with French and Japanese cuisine, since Comyet has stated he’s french and his aesthetic is largely based on Japan, I believe? Or maybe just eastern Asian culture, but I’ve largely seen most people specifics Japan. From French cuisine, I really enjoy the idea of him making, like, macarons and crêpes (both French and Japanese styles!), as well as more savory stuff, like aligot and gougère (both involve cheese because for some reason Ink strikes me as the type to enjoy cheese???). He also strikes me as the sort to like drinks with fun names, like rinquinquin (a peach flavored alcoholic beverage!). From Japanese cuisine, I could see him loving mizu manjū (very pretty clear buns with a bunch of different fillings, they’re gorgeous and very artsy looking!) and shirokuma (shaved ice mixed with condensed milk and decorated to look like a bear!), and I could see him really enjoying age-onigiri (rice ball that’s been fried!) and takoyaki. Drink wise, since Comyet says he likes burnt food, I could see him enjoying akumochizake (sweet rice wine made with charcoal or ash), or maybe matatabicha (tea made from silver vine, because Ink has big cat vibes haha).
Dream would be good with Spanish cuisine (though I imagine he specializes in sweet no matter where they come from, but that! Isn’t! What I’m focusing on!). If we’re talking Spanish sweets, I see him being good at most of them, but I think he’d like smaller stuff or handheld foods the most, like pionono (small cylindrical pastry soaked with syrups and topped with toasted cream) or churros (which are actually commonly a breakfast item in Spain, he’d love it!), and for savory food, I could see him enjoying stuff easy to eat on the go, like pinchos morunos (skewers of diced pork or chicken marinated with olive oil and other spices) or pa amb tomàquet (toasted bread rubbed with tomato and seasoned with olive oil and sea salt!). For drinks, I could see him liking agua de cebada (malted barley mixed with sugar and lemon!) or calimocho (red wine mixed with cola).
Blue is difficult for me because I can’t find anything solid about associated cultures or where his creator might be from, so I usually imagine he specializes in Mexican foods (with a bit of American), mainly because he’s so associated with tacos and also I like doing research on different cuisines. Obviously there’s his aforementioned tacos, but I could also see him being very good with stuff like enchiladas or machacado con huevo (eggs scrambled with shredded dry beef!), and for sweets, I could see him making stuff like hot milk cake (butter sponge cake made with scalded milk) and marquesitas (a crêpe that’s been rolled like a taco and filled with a variety of sweet things). For drinks, I could see him making café de olla (coffee made with cinnamon and unrefined whole cane sugar which is specifically prepared in an earthen clay pot- Blue seems like a coffee drinker to me, haha).
This got too long but I wanted to ramble so I hope! You don’t! Mind!!!
My brain's only processing half of this but yes, I agree! I don't really imagine Ink as someone who drinks alcohol very often, but I also imagine he has a higher tolerance for it than most people. Dream also has a higher alcohol tolerance, but through self-conditioning rather than naturally high tolerance. I headcanon Blue and Stretch as Canadian, but it's interesting to see your headcanon too!
I imagine Dream as the main baker of the group, so I can see Ink going to him like "I wanna try this!" and showing (well, more like describing) the food or drink to Dream. And you can bet your entire bank account that Dream has snatched recipes from the two, particularly dessert recipes. I don't make the rules (yes I do).

Trying to spread some positivity in the OC community today, so: tell me ten random facts about Iris Winchester! Whatever fun little tidits you can think of, tell us about them!! <3
DOLLY! You're so incredibly kind <3 I'm sorry I didn't answer this sooner, I've been busy!
So, facts about Iris, my beloved!
She's more of a cocktail drinker than a drinker for the sake of alcohol. Like, she will drink gin from Hawkeye's still, but she prefers mixed drinks like caipirinha or calimocho (which is called "Korea" in German, fun fact) - mainly to piss off her fancier family members who would never dare mix a good red wine with cola. She's generally a wine drinker, but doesn't do it very often during the war.
She owns a good amount of jewelry, but she initially doesn't have it with her during the war. It's only when Klinger starts crossdressing that she starts asking her parents for jewelry and the like, for the sole purpose of passing them on to Klinger. He refused her lots of time because he feels bad about her gifting him all her things, but lots of jewelry still mysteriously ends up in his possession anyways.
Honestly, she has no clue of class differences and regularly falls flat on her face because of it. Mainly, she has no real idea of what the middle class is like. She'll either assume that they live a lot like she did at home or that they're fairly poor, with pretty much no inbetween.
She's a very generous person, partially because she has no perspective on money. While some of her relatives may be stingy, she likes to throw money at people with the impression that money will solve their problems. A lot of times, it does, but oftentimes it doesn't. Then, she'll be there to emotionally support them as well. But she really has no idea of what "rich" and "poor" actually mean.
She absolutely adores ancient Roman poetry, mainly the works of Ovidius and Catullus, and can cite a lot of verses by heart. Her favourites are the raunchier ones.
Occasionally, she and Father Mulcahy hold little Latin book clubs because they're among the only ones in the camp who actually actively know Latin. Charles knows Latin too, but only bits and pieces. Iris is definitely the more Latin-oriented relative.
She has a tattoo of a quote from Catullus's carmen 5 on her upper thigh, just beneath her hip. It reads "Da mi basia mille, dein mille altera" which translates to "Give me a thousand kisses, then another thousand" which is the beginning of verses 7 and 8. The poem is about love despite the gossip, badmouthing and jealousy of others and is a reminder to Iris of her love for life.
She almost died from an accidental overdose of cough syrup when she was young. Charles saved her from dying, which is part of the reason why they're so close in the present day. When visiting her in the hospital afterwards, he gifted her a book on Roman poetry, which sparked her keen interest in the topic.
Charles and Iris are cousins and they're over ten years apart in age. As such, Charles actually helped raise Iris and has always had a soft spot for the little girl that continues on into their joint service at the 4077th. He considers her an honorary little sister.
Iris is very rebellious where her family is concerned. Her family, including Charles, is very conservative, but she's having none of it. She's a drinker, she's bisexual, she's a woman in the army (shocking! But at least she made it to Captain) who joined voluntarily, to her family's dismay, and she's known for being very promiscuous in all of her relationships, whether they're romantic, sexual, or just platonic. One of the prettiest girls in camp, it's not like there's a lack of options to be had.
Thanks so much for your ask!!!
