yeah!

like, at the end of the day, they both wanted the same thing: peace and their friends to be safe and happy.

genuinely, the biggest difference was the amount of support they each got and the fact that c!techno was a lot more stable. he's been through a lot, he genuinely has some deep trauma. it's just techno has a much stronger sense of self. he pushes back against the dehumanization, where dream accepts it.

so dream spirals. he spirals hard and he keeps spiraling because no one is helping him, least of all himself. where techno begins to spiral, does try isolate himself, but he's much more certain of who he is and he has at least one steadfast friend at the start of that spiral. he's able to walk himself back. where. dream doesn't. he can't.

and i do think techno saw that a bit, he offers dream a place but man. dream is so deep in his fear and his stress, he can't stop to accept that place. he dances on the edge of maybe. he builds a house. but he can't step away because he's terrified and the spiral plan is all he has now. he's got to see it through and maybe he'll be able to fix everything! so he destroys the house.

Rivals duo hair style swap! 🔄

c!rivals duo au where everything is the same, except, during their duel, dream accidentally performed a piglin courtship custom, and techno decided to accept. like, y'know bird mating rituals? yeah it's the same thing in piglin culture except with fighting, and dream happened to do that and he kept up with techno, so of course techno was going to accept. what's a husband if not a guaranteed sparring partner?

so imagine a "getting married for tax benefits" scenario, except from techno's pov it's getting married for sparring benefits, and from dream's pov he's completely oblivious.

now, techno doesn't really know what species dream is (he thinks dream's human? but he's not sure), but phil tells him that he should perform the courtship customs of dream's culture to be respectful. except techno doesn't fully know what dream is, so he just keeps going through a bunch of customs, like throwing them at a wall except none of them are sticking. and of course he's anxious because oh no phil, what if he's being super disrespectful and now his rival and fiance is never going to speak to him again.

dream thinks techno is acting a bit weird, but he figures techno is just like that.

and then of course dream gets himself put into prison without a trial, and. well. techno's not gonna let this abuse of power slide. especially because it involves his fiance.

dsmp season 2 au where c!techno remembers everything because of the voices, who never forgot. he remembers the butcher army, he remembers the prison and the awful condition c!dream was in. he remembers being in love with dream.

but c!dream doesn't. he smiles now and it reaches his eyes and his laugh doesn't have that edge of stress and pain to it. he doesn't remember anything. he doesn't remember loving techno.

so techno is torn because dream is happy and whole. there's scars and he doesn't remember how he got them but it doesn't weigh him down. techno still loves him. what does he do?

he stays close to dream as best he can. he teases him and makes him laugh and tries not to want to hold his hand when dream leans against him while he's laughing.

then he starts to wonder if he's the only one that remembers because he sees the way c!sam looks at dream sometimes.

sorry i just want to talk about the similarities between c!rivals duo forever and how so much of their differences can be summed up with the quote 'people improve when they get external love and support. how can we hold it against them, when they don’t?'

like of course the guy who tried so hard to hold things together for so long only to see everyone turn on him and leave him turned to a sort of self-destructive desire for control!

and of course the guy who was betrayed and blamed and traumatized but had someone there telling him it would be alright was able to step back and change his course!

You said you wanted RivalsDuo, so I decided to draw them sitting outside of Techno's cabin at the staircase drinking some hot chocolate/cocoa with a blanket on while they just chill and talk about whatever they want! (Techno is the one doing most of the talk, Dream is just vibing and listening lol)

I'm so sorry it took me so long, I was very busy irl and I went out of my comfort zone to make this piece so I was practically winging it all the way through haha, but I still hope you enjoy it nonetheless!!
