My favourite thing trope with Butters in stories is making him be so loved desperate, not even romantically— just so starved. Basically being so in love or feeling loved that they’re willing to do genuinely bat shit stuff,

or like— that person doing something to betray Butters trust or love in some way-whether they were good intentioned or not- ending up in butters having a freak out,

or Butters loving a toxic person and constantly interacting despite the pain till a blow out or even still offering everything despite it- making Excuses or whatever.

I don’t care. I just love the trend of just the unhealthy need to be loved with Butters, with how much their often denied consistent common human compassion and it’s wearing on them. UwU

The way this ask sent my own heart all a pitter patter. ✨

I love this couple so badly it’s not funny. I need them written and fully formed so we can all scream over particulars but until then, asks like these are my bread and butter.

What makes Rosie’s heart skip a beat over Ida’s actions? Well he’d keep you pinned under a laundry list of little nothings about her but for one, but maybe let’s go with three: he loves when she gets a little mad, honestly, about a good cause, especially if he knows that between the two of them they can open a can of whoop ass on the evildoers and give her an outlet. (Conversely he HATES when she’s angry and there’s nothing he can do to help it be constructive). One of the first things that made him trip into love with her is how she can go from discussing some of the hardest topics in life to a smooth transition into breezy and gentler subjects. She’s not deflecting, she’s not chickening out, she’s just able to balance both in life. “Coffee break?” was something she asked of him so casually after her first horrifying deposition it about landed him on his ass. And lastly, this woman and her music, trombone playing or insisting he learn some actual dance moves, he Loves Ida and her music.

As for Ida with Rosie? Rather simple, his voice over the telephone sends her batty. It started when she was still in denial of both the nature of their connection, his intentions and her own feelings for him. And now when he goes on business trips those phone calls can turn quite saucy, but besides that, it’s just the avid appreciation his voice holds for her when he talks and listens and hums to her over the phone. If he calls from the office you can be sure his greeting when he comes home will be even warmer than usual. He’s preheated the oven so to speak. She also loves to wind him up on a subject he loves and listen to this nerd explain it for the next three hours.

Kisses- Rosie honestly loves Ida’s rather violent, almost argumentative kisses that usually come after her huffed “why are you so wonderful” before she angrily smooches him. Ida loves the way Rosie will cradle her head when he takes her apart at his own pace, the tickle of his mustache, the way he’ll rub their lips together in a gentle press long before he begins to truly caress and kiss her. The noises he makes when their tongues finally meet.

Kiss Me Moonstruck (WIP, m!Hawke x Trevelyan matchmakingmoms!AU fic, DA2 Era)

(Leandra & Garrett Hawke) “Actually quite the opposite. She seems to reject everyone.” “Well that should make this easy then!” he cries, delighted to be free. In truth, pine as he had for Aveline for so long, Garrett is ill suited to the institution and hasn’t the time for a wife. Least of all some fussy noblewoman who will bury him in unreasonable expectations. And of course she’d make him be fussy right along side her at fussy parties with fussy guests and fussy little canapes. Perhaps the canapes might not be quite so bad. But, no, a fix up could not stick. There was that dream he'd had after all, one he is sure foretells of something deep and squashy and abiding. He holds affection for it like an old, batty friend that continually prods him into abandoning the constraints of reason.

(Rose Trevelyan & Dorian) He was correct, of course. She was a mistake. She still is. The water is cold enough to leave her searching for breath, her nerves screaming about what a danger it was. She can see the outline of the water logged skiff against the unnatural green luminosity of the sky, an alien haze obscuring Satina and its sibling, but it was risky to go to it. If the enemy can see it they could scoop them up. “What’s the plan this time?” asks Dorian through clenched teeth, bobbing low at the surface as he struggles to keep his head above water. His panic is warranted though unhelpful. “Survive,” she spits, equally unhelpful, bitterness skipping across the water at him like a stone.

He reaches up to push a strand of her hair off her freckled forehead, noting the intensity of the Sip-Sip on her breath and then curses his blazing friends. “Maybe three quarters a mind,” she adds. “Lucky for you, I’m sober enough to stop you,” he says, perfectly serious and yet smiling helplessly. “You’ll thank me tomorrow.” “I— don’t think I will,” she says, and closes the gap between them for a kiss. A jolt of panic streaks through him, and then the softness of her lips against his silences it, a quiet thrill slipping in its stead.

In the Shattering of Things (Cullen x f!Trevelyan, Hawke x f!Trevelyan, DA:I)

(Cullen x Rose) “Prepare yourself for something truly pathetic,” I warn him. Cullen smiles as wide as he ever does, his dimples two little knots of joy in his cheeks and he shakes his head. “I would never hold you up to any sort of learned standard,” he insists. “You’re a beginner. And there’s no shame in that. I was a beginner once too.” “When you were a boy!” “It doesn’t matter. Don’t concern yourself with me . I have nothing but admiration for you,” he says, his bright cheeks a confession on their own. “For the moment! Give it a half hour!” He’d spent the first part of our time together this morning sharing stories from his early days as a young templar recruit. Comical accounts of miserable hazing he’d experienced at the hands of the older recruits moved into a rather granular lecture on the fundamentals of swordsmanship as we approached the the sparring ring, none of which took root inside me.

The Boy Who Talked too Much (Alistair x f!Cousland, DA:O)

Alistair is impulsive, but Elissa’s directness calms his wildly short attention span until it’s anxiously fixed upon her, slowing his decision-making to a comparative crawl. In the absence of impulse, he takes a calculated risk, folding together a rationale from her repeated morning visits and their openly flirtatious dynamic that fuels his courage. He reaches a big paw up to her cheek, the flat part of his thumb brushing across her skin gently. Elissa grins, smacking him lightly on the chest. “Do you want to kiss me?” she asks pointedly, challenging what little gumption he’s mustered. He pulls his hand away, reaching for jokes to bury his embarrassment. “Kiss you? No, no. Eugch. Mouths. Awful things aren’t they? Just festering traps full of yesterday’s food. And teeth . Odd, don’t you think?”

I bounce on my heels and nibble my chapped lower lip and stare at the deeply weathered boards of Hawke’s door. I knock, fixating on the bleached gray striations and crackled pattern of the ancient wood, anxious without a clear purpose for my visit. He wasn’t at the rest or the training grounds. And I just have to see him. The door opens halfway. Hawke peers around it, his hair untied and unkempt, his brawn buried under a chunky knit Fereldan style jumper in undyed wool, the kind I’ve seen worn by farmers and fishermen. Hiding away his fame and luster under the man he wants to be. “Rose,” he says, genuinely surprised. The shock quickly disappears under a charming grin but not quickly enough. “Here to drop me on the floor again?”

PENNY PUMPKINS: THE CREEPYPASTA!!!

What's worse than how companies manipulate you into buying their product is that often said manipulation works. A cereal having a fun-loving mascot means that you are obligated to buy the cereal because when you eat it, it feels like you're eating with those fun-loving mascots.

Such a thing actually happened to me.

Without the slightest reminiscence of how I ended up there, I sat at the breakfast table you see in adverts. Circular like King Arthur's meeting table, draped with a pearly-white tablecloth. Before me was a pitcher of orange juice next to a glass, a plate with slices of toast near a slab of butter, and of course, a bowl of cereal with milk.

This table sat in a crypt.

The breakfast and I were surrounded by clammy stone walls attempting to hide beneath gigantic webs, with illumination being provided by flaming torches. Sitting in this room made me sweat, and I would have guzzled down the milk in the cereal and the orange juice to combat my stinging dehydration if I could have moved my muscles.

Cereals have mascots so you when you eat the cereal, you feel like you're eating with the mascots, and that was why I was at the crypt.

Two figures seemed to materialise at the other end of the table. One was the animate corpse of a young woman, with various insects crawling across her rotting green flesh. That was not what almost made me fall off my seat - rather her hair and outfit made me recognise her as Carmella Creeper, the latest addition to the Monster Cereals line.

At her left sat another young woman with green skin, one wearing a sleeveless black leather jacket, a white shirt, a red plaid skirt and black boots. Where there should have been a head was a rotting jack-o-lantern deflating towards her neck, her face resembling the Scream mask with a horizontal mouth.

In the pumpkin-headed woman's hand was a cereal box, one depicting her with a more healthy pumpkin for a head, her eyes circles, her mouth a shark's grin. Like Carmella had her headphones, the character on the cereal box had her own musical accessory: an electric guitar shaped like a pumpkin with a long stem wrapped in vines.

"Penny Pumpkins" read the text above the cereal bowl photo. "Pumpkin Pie Flavour".

Penny handed me the box and that was when I regained control of my muscles and took it from her, noting the comic on the back. It began where Carmella's comic had ended, with the main three monsters visiting Carmella at her DJ table. The first panel shows the four cringing from a blaring noise - visualised as a shockwave - coming from off-panel. The second panel showed Count Chocula and Boo Berry covering their ears - or what counted for them in Boo Berry's case - with Chocula saying "What is that batty racket?" and Boo Berry simply saying "Ooh!"

The third panel showed a full body shot of Penny Pumpkins with her guitar strapped around her torso, raising her arms and saying, "I heard you guys making music and thought I'd join in!" The next panel shows Carmella wrapping an arm around Penny as the other three look, with Carmella saying, "This is my girlfriend, Penny Pumpkins. She likes music as much as I do, and as much as I love her pumpkin pie flavoured cereal!" Boo Berry remarks, "Now she's what I call a PUNK-kin!"

‘They wanted to give her eyes,’ Carmella explained, her voice sounding like claws against a casket lid, ‘so she could look down on potential customers. I told them she was beautiful the way she was.’ I heard a gurgling noise emanate from Penny’s wide, withered mouth, which was followed by Carmella placing her skeletal hands on Penny’s wet, wrinkled cheeks. ‘You’re still beautiful,’ said Carmella to Penny, and Penny’s face regained a little of its former orange.

Carmella turned to me, a small smile crossing her green lips. ‘Have you heard the joke where a parent says to their child “Eat your greens, it’ll put colour in your cheeks” and the child says “But I don’t want green cheeks”?’ I nodded. ‘Well,’ continued Carmella, bringing the cereal bowl closer to me, ‘maybe if you eat Penny’s cereal, it’ll put some colour back on her cheeks.

Penny smiled, her horizontal mouth becoming slightly more vertical and some of her wrinkles flattening.

I took a bite.

(The character was inspired by @bogleech who said there should be a pumpkin pie flavour cereal)

I don’t know if you write for jealousy and possessiveness. I read your rules so hopefully I didn’t skip over it somehow and if I have my apologies. But maybe you can do a Jealous Homelander/Reader fic where the reader is kinda into it. Listen I know how toxic jealousy can be in real life. Please don’t judge me (u can if u want I deserve it) but I like possessive behavior in the safety net that is a fic. So maybe the reader doesn’t try to make him jealous because FEAR. But when it happens naturally and whatever it may lead up to, she is just kinda like “really? You like me? Like really REALLY like me? Thanks.” Smut or not is up to you. If you want a specific scenario I can try to think up of one. I already feel like I’m writing too much and I want to give you the creative freedom to write what you want. I absolutely love this idea, Homelander is canonically extremely jealous (I mean, he had beef with literal baby Teddy Stilwell for taking Madelyn's attention away from him), and I think he'd kinda thrive with a reader who was into it and viewed it as him displaying his love and devotion. The Pancakes household resulted in some funny-looking kids. I had risky-woohoo on guess I decided they needed a baby. So they had one, and while they still had a hard time getting along, they loved parenting and their kids, so they had a second. (I made Bob be the one pregnant.) and then on my try for a third, I got twins! And then while those two were only just children, Bob got abducted and knocked up!!

Aliza was a very dedicated painter in between caretaking, and Bob stayed passionate about his cooking. He had a great big kitchen with barstools and black and white checkers and the lights and stuff, he loved it. He taught his kids all the tricks.

Their oldest transitioned because I kept calling him "him" and figured I might as well.

Their second one is a butter-face lesbian who became a cop, and I loved her so much I saved her house and her dog and Her and put her up for adoption in my game. She's the police chief and makes a great NPC. Womanizer, rottweiler, just great.

The twins were a boy and a girl, good and evil, one of whom moved in with the Harms to be a babysitter and the other who stayed with his little Alien brother Batty (previously Matty) to help him raise children with Britta.

Bob and Aliza were only ever lukewarm to one another, but they loved parenting together and complemented each other well. The house went to Matty.

The Baron In The Trees.

What a July: I’ve felt terrible all month. The kind of terrible that is quiet and slow but heavy and super alarming. When you blink to find you’ve spent all day in bed; and then it’s been a couple days. And you’re like oh man, I might really be in trouble.

Luckily though there have also been a few walks. Long walks. One down to the lake and others to the grocery. But there’s this implication summer weather brings, one that implies you should be full of lightness and sultry feelings perhaps, and I’ve been having none of that. What’s the saddest movie that takes place in June? July and August? I’ve hit the wall emotionally and so decided to take up counselling. In my first session I mentioned over and over, my seeming inability to work. Panic used to persuade me, but now there is no panic. Everything just passes. A feeling has come, a feeling of being far from home with no way back, meanwhile I’m living where I’ve always lived, being where I’ve always been — maybe that is the problem. Sometimes one just needs to get the fuck out of town!!!

Then of course as soon as I’ve written all that, I feel suddenly full of good spirits. I’m a mix of good and batty. Best part of summer? A big box of mangoes for $6.99. Plus with a lower course load I’ve had more time to read. I finished Stoner by John Williams and am nearly done with Cassandra at the Wedding by Dorothy Baker, both of which are NYRB classics, nice and sturdy but accessible when it comes to the language. I got upset reading Cassandra at the Wedding because I so wanted the storyline to go one way, only for it to nosedive in another. Such is life. Such a deep, rhythmic and sensual book, though. Also: boy, maybe the simple thing is that I am dumb, but I tried getting into Persuasion by Jane Austen and I am just not there yet. Not at all. So I’ve put it aside and will return when I’ve gained my strength (in terms of vocabulary and my ability to follow a sentence through multiple commas).

This post title comes from a novel by Italo Calvino, The Baron In The Trees. Here’s the summary:

Cosimo di Rondó, a young Italian nobleman of the eighteenth century, rebels against his parents by climbing into the trees and remaining there for the rest of his life. He adapts efficiently to an existence in the forest canopy—he hunts, sows crops, plays games with earth-bound friends, fights forest fires, solves engineering problems, and even manages to have love affairs. From his perch in the trees, Cosimo sees the Age of Enlightenment pass by and a new century dawn.

I’ve never read it; I stumbled upon it by going through my new favourite column, Eat Your Words by Valerie Stivers. It’s AMAZING. Stivers is AMAZING. She goes through books and recreates the dishes mentioned, and when it comes to Baron, we get recipes for Sour Cherry Meringue Pie, Tree-Nut Tart, White Chocolate Peach Tart and Frozen Grapefruit Chiffon Pie with Gingersnap Crust. What a way to inhabit a book before you’ve been there (if you’re like me and have read hardly any of the books she references).

I love food, pictures and descriptions. I recently followed the Redwall Feasts Bot on Twitter for lovely sentences like “I'd like a beaker of raspberry fizz and a big pastie, a mushroom and carrot one; after that I think I'd go for a piece of hot apple and pear crumble, with sweet custard poured all over it.” Side note: summer heirloom tomatoes are the best tomatoes in the world. Tomato sandwiches get me hot and emotional. Crusty bread, heaps of mayo, a bright layer of tomatoes, and salt and pepper, tons of both. Christ. Another favourite is toast with butter, salt and radishes. I could eat this all the time. I’m going to eat it as soon as I wake up tomorrow!

My favourite “hauls” are books and groceries. Yesterday I bought dried cranberries, bbq corn nuts, halloumi, multigrain bread, parsley, mango/pineapple candy rings and a purple sweet potato.

It’s nearly midnight. I have a lot of work to do before an internship meeting in the morning. I fucking hate meetings; oh jeeze stop wasting my time. Seeing as how I just can’t work, this will be a mighty task — I hope I can achieve it. I’ve got apple cinnamon tea + a stick of cinnamon in my thermos and Interview with the Vampire on the television.

Just reminding myself the meeting will be over with by noon tomorrow and I’ll get to eat my radish toast and later, at night, go see Nope and bring my candy rings and have some salty, buttery popcorn.

There is not much more I can do but give myself over, and all the way over. Once I get to the point where I’m scared I should keep going.

first things first: do you like spring? I don't dislike spring.

what is your favorite thing about spring? Being able to walk to the office again is pretty nice. I always feel horrible for that short drive to and from my house, but sometimes the cold is just a little too cold int he morning to make the walk.

what is your least favorite thing about spring? Allergies, people walking their dogs, bees, the bugs, super early morning birds.

how about flower beds, or things planted in the house? There are a few plants in the house, a couple that I water, but mostly the housekeeper takes care of them. Outside, there are flower boxes and potted plants on the patio.

regardless of what you do or do not plant, are you good at growing plants? have a green thumb? I can keep plants alive, but I don't really grow things, no.

what's your favorite flower or plant? I just like... green things. Plants that you'd keep in an office. Ferns are nice, too.

what's your favorite scent that you associate with spring? Fresh rain.

is there a sound that you associate with spring time? Those morning birds, which drive me batty.

do you prefer sunny mornings or rainy afternoons? Rainy afternoons.

favorite thing to do on a sunny, warm spring day? Go for a run, if I have the day to myself. Take a walk, work on the patio.

favorite thing to do on a rainy, chilly spring day? Put on some music, pick up a book, and read on the couch.

do you celebrate Easter? any traditions you follow for it? I do, I have always attended church services with my parents, and still do to this day. My mom helps out with the Easter egg hunt, so I help her with that, and then on Sunday, after church, we have a very big dinner at the estate.

regardless of if you do or don't: favorite Easter candy? Homemade peanut butter eggs.

what other springtime holidays do you observe? None, really.

favorite place in Merrock to visit in the springtime? Probably the park downtown, but I also enjoy just taking walks around the area. A lot of shops have flower boxes out, and the trees are in bloom.

the spring bugs are coming out: do you rescue them and let them out of the house, or grab the nearest shoe? Shoe. I'm sorry, I know that's politically incorrect of me, but I do not have time to save every crawling, hideous thing with six or eight legs that goes through my house.

are you a big spring cleaner? No.

do you switch over your wardrobe from cold weather to warm weather clothes? Yes. I take the clothes that I know that I won't be wearing in the winter to store at my parents' in a second walk-in closet, and keep the one in my house strictly for warm-weather options I might need.

how about the house: does your decor change for the spring season? do you rearrange furniture? I'm a creature of habit; my furniture and decor largely stays the same unless it's time for a total remodel of the space.

what color makes you think 'spring'? Soft green.

describe your perfect spring outfit: I don't... really wear 'spring' outfits, per se. I guess dark jeans, a button down and nice shoes.

most adorable looking baby animal that you ever did see? I don't really like baby animals, since I don't really like animals, but I do think that the fox that we had wandering around the downtown area a few years back was cute.

what's a drink that makes you think of spring? Anything with a touch of vanilla to it, like a latte.

how about a snack? Things that are light and easy to eat; sandwiches, salads, soups. But if you mean a snack snack, then probably fruits with dip.
