Which scene is your favorite in Fellow Travelers?

Oh man that's not an easy question. I love so many scenes for completely different reasons. For instance I absolutely adore cuddle slut Hawk. I love that the show made a point to show us that no one gets that Hawk but Tim. I love all the cuddle scenes. My favorite though is the one from episode 6 when Hawk comes home very early in the morning to a sleeping Tim in his bed. I adore every single thing about that scene and I have watched it countless times. That scene makes me smile endlessly.

I love them slow dancing with each other in episode 8. Just the two of them in the little bubble they created. How peaceful and content they both looked in that scene. Episode 8 in general, I feel, was full of incredible scenes. The scene with them in Tim's hospital bed, I know it wasn't their final scene like we were expecting (thanks again, Drew) but it was an incredible scene. Hawk kissing him multiple times on the forehead, asking if that was helping, and Tim's little 'oh yeah'. I was a mess. Tim's I feel myself slipping away comment, and Hawk telling him no, I've got you (tearing up just writing that). Of course the gala. Their back and forth about it feeling like a date and Hawk's 'I might just make a pass then' comment. I love that even in the midst of such heartache and pain they were still just them when they were together. Their entire talk outside the gala. Line for line, that scene was incredible. I know we all wanted them to stay together until the end, but it really did make sense why Tim needed him to go. That of course leads us to the final scene. Every single second of that scene is stunning. I cannot think of a better final scene and line of a show, ever. Every detail. Hawk's face when he saw Tim's quilt. Hawk wanting to make sure it was clean. The very last line. He wasn't my friend. He was the man I loved.

Perfection

You could go episode by episode and find a scene that is probably someone's favorite. The show is just that good, but for me these are the scenes that I would tell people to watch.

Heartbreak sometimes feels like the end of the world

I just recently found out about the conversation, which is a wonderful podcast by @bengiyo and @shortpplfedup (if you don't know about it then go listen to it. like now). So, I have been listening and enjoying it, and I can't stop thinking about the conversation they had regarding the end of the world with you.

I'm going to get into some details about the show, so if you haven't watched the show and don't like spoilers, don't...

First of all, I love The End of the World With You. Everything that was put in there was so thought out. There's nothing meaningless or out of place. And the more I dig into it, the more it becomes clear how everything fits together.

We start with the announcement that the end of the world has come - there's a date and time and it is all scientifically backed up (in show) and it's presented to the viewers, throughout the first ep, as the trigger event. However, this story was never about an actual end of the world event. This setup is meant to get us to buy into the feeling of "they are all behaving this way because this is actual end of the world stuff and it makes sense".

The first two episodes take us through Masumi and Ritzu's story. How they got together and eventually broke up because of Ritzu's, I wanna say, issues...? Anyway, it's the end of the world, Masumi goes to the library, cos no internet, and he bumps into Ritzu. At this point, Ritzu is the last person Masumi wants to see. He is in no way over what happened between them, but it's the end of the world, so he listens to what Ritzu has to say.

By the 3rd ep we start to realize that something feels off and things don't really make sense. when Ritzu brings Masumi to his apartment to help him get rid of a young boy's body, we learn that the young boy is very much alive in spite of taking pills that are designed to kill you. When Masumi tries to figure out what brought the kid to suicide, we learn that he suffered two heartbreaks one after the other when he got rejected by his crush and his beloved idol committed suicide.

I want to take a second to talk about the boy's name - Yuma. I don't speak Japanese, but I looked it up and there are a few translations depending on the kanji you use. However, the most common translation is calm, distant or eternal truth, which I take as being significant to the story because as he reveals his name we can see this in the background (sorry about the poor quality):

Yuma is the sweetest boy. He is naive and loving, and he is pure goodness. Which is why he is so devastated by the heartbreaks he has experienced.

Masumi goes on to encourage Yuma, giving him hope to live on, to never give up, and to understand that life goes on. It might feel like it, but It's not the end of the world! To which Ritzu adds - dude, did you forget it's actually the end of the world? There is no hope.

Here we learn something crucial to the story - this event was unknown to Yuma. It happened while he was so deep in his own sadness that he wasn't aware that the world was coming to an end while he was attempting to end his own life.

Now, if you still don't get where I'm going with this, let me say it clearly. Yuma was determined to give in to the feeling that his heartbreak is the end of the world. However, as his name suggests, he does not give up easily, leaving his soul so conflicted that he is unable to take his own life (not for the lack of trying). As a result, he forces the universe to end it for him, taking everyone on its way.

As the story progresses, we get a few more hints to the fact that Yuma has a very significant role in the coming of the meteor. It is obvious not only to the viewers, but also to Ritzu and Masumi, who start to see the strange coincidences around Yuma.

Yuma is the trigger. His heartbreak is the trigger. The meteor serves as a metaphor for heartbreak. That feeling of - if I don't have that person with me I might as well not be - it's the end of the world.

How do Ritzu and Masumi fit in?

While Yuma actively attempted to end his own life, Masumi didn't try to kill himself, but rather effectively ended his life when he ended things with Ritzu.

he stayed in the same apartment, never moved on.

he stayed in his dead-end job, never moved on.

never got into a new relationship, never moved on.

never had sex again (If you will allow me for a second - I lost it when Ritzu asked him what kind of sex he has been having...)

Masumi gave in to the feeling of heartbreak being the end of the world, and now he gets to correct that through Yuma. He is able to reconnect with Ritzu and work through everything that has been holding him back, because this is really actually the end of the world and not just the feeling of it. All of them go on this journey to understand and internalize what Masumi was sort of chanting as hollow cliches at Yuma in the beginning. And once they do, the meteor is gone because the hope is real. They actually believe that life is worth living.

So, to sum up, I love this show, I love Yuma, and I love Ritzu and Masumi. And if you don't like the story, at least go watch for the sex...

While I accept that a fan is a fan, there is an unfortunate number of Danny Phantom fans who haven't seen the source material and are lost, confused, or assume a lot of things that aren't true.

I don't think you need to watch the show, but there's clearly an issue with so many people getting into something they know nothing about. We headcanon freely in this fandom, and I personally consider all headcanons valid, but there's a lot of things that are taken as gospel that aren't in the show (or any other canon material) and some actually goes against canon. And I've seen that a ton of newer fans are extremely confused as to what is and isn't canon and there's a lot of fanon lore that's built up in the past nearly two decades since the shows original airing.

Canon isn't king, but it is still important. Canon is a Lego box set, but fan creators still decide what to build with it. And if you don't know what pieces you have, you'll have a hard time figuring out what can build.

So, if you are one of those people that is confused as to what is and isn't canon, just go watch the show. It's not hard to find the episodes online (just remember to use adblocker and virus protection if you're not using an official source). You could also request your local library get a DVD set *wink wink nudge nudge, I did this one as a teen*.

Just, please just watch the show. (and support your local library)

I think this person on reddit summed up the youtube adblocker situation perfectly. my reaction to this is not "oh man guess I'll watch ads." its, "well, I guess I'll just do something more productive with my time." I highly doubt any adblock user is going to willingly go back to watching ads. so what actually happens is youtube loses a functionally tiny amount of its userbase--because adblockers weren't even losing them a significant amount of money in the first place(!)--and a bunch of adblock users move on to something else. what a fantastic waste of time and effort
