Played in an absolutely fantastic game of Hometown Holiday by @kidnickgames this past Tuesday and it was just simply everything i wanted it to be. I GM-ed and the initial love interest I created was named Yule Snowden, owner and operator of the Holly Day Inn (the groans i got for this in the groupchat, delicious). Then for players we had lovable single father Harry Pryne and his kid Pearl, Definitely-Not-Santa-Clause Nikki C., tired video game developer Shelly J. Plankton from The Big City, and Everyone’s Best Friend, Pepper S. Haker. Everything went so well, all of the meet-cutes were so cliche and fantastic: Yule spilling water on Shelly’s shirt and trying to dab it off, then a minute later tripping over Harry’s luggage and -gasp- falling into his arms, and then oh no! something went wrong with the oven and who could Yule call but their childhood friend and handyman Nikki. also Pepper was there! Always. Because Pepper is Always There :), you know, your best friend Pepper? You may not remember exactly when you became friends with them, but theyre always there when you need them! What a good friend. When we had our first doubles roll while everyone was baking and decorating cookies together it ended up introducing another love interest: Mr. Kris, who was also a video game developer from the Big City, but! he worked for the rivals of Shelly’s company. And while him and Shelly didn’t end up having to share a bed, they did end up sharing a bathroom. there just werent any other rooms available! ;3c All in all its a really fantastic game, the system is simple but very fun, with each character having three stats that they can add to their 2d6 rolls. As I mentioned above, if they roll doubles then they all roll on the complication table, which only happened a few times during our game but was fantastic each time. Theres also slight PVP mechanics, as all the PCs are vying to kiss the Love Interest by the end of the game. Of course, we ended up with two Love Interests, which worked out well as in the end Shelly and Mr. Kris got to share a lovely chaste kiss in the lobby while Yule and Nikki kissed at the Holly Day Inn’s Christmas Eve Donation Dance, and Harry and Pepper ended up rekindling their high school romance under the mistletoe. It was extremely fun and just a hilarious time, since we’re all familiar with the good-bad holiday movie cliches we were able to just yes-and eachother into oblivion, i dont think ive ever laughed so much during a game. I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a good 2-3 hour holiday one shot this week!

Life Tracker updated for Episode 7! This one is much quicker than Episode 6 on account of not being on holiday at the time, even though there were two thirds more deaths this time. Previous posts: Session 6, Session 5, Session 4. Also Session 8 (finale) post!

As usual, close ups and commentary below the cut. I’ve also added another graph for the average time of each team, which will also be below the cut.

There was so much carnage! 45 whole deaths in a single session! Not all deaths were awarded time during the session, but Scott’s video advised that it would be added by next session, so I have taken the liberty to add all the time as I see fit, hence why Scott is back to 7.5 hours. I haven’t seen every episode yet (in fact, other than Scott, I’ve only seen those that have perma-died), so I’m not sure if anyone else’s time is a mismatch, but if so I’m happy to explain where I’m getting my time additions and subtractions from!

Now for some close ups.

First, there was enough chaos that I decided to take a close up of Session 6 and 7 together so we can properly appreciate it:

So many people lost major time, so it’s interesting to see Scott’s uptick of time at the end - he ended on only 30 minutes less than he would have been if he hadn’t died at all this session. Pearl didn’t die at all, and got the kill credit for Martyn blowing himself up in a trap, so she actually ended the session 30 minutes better than she started it. Grian also did very well for himself - he killed and died so many times, but somehow ended on the exact time he would have been on if he had experienced a peaceful deathless session.

BigB, Cleo, and Martyn all ended the session 1 hour poorer than they started, and Bdubs and Scar ended 1.5 hours below where they would have been. Nosy Neighbours are thus doing super well, with Mean Gills and Clockers not too far behind, in terms of maintaining position from the start of the session.

TIES had an awful time this session, with Impulse and Tango both losing a net 2 hours, and Etho and Skizz losing a net 2.5 hours - and obviously Skizz entirely died.

Joel possibly had the worst time, losing a net 3.5 hours this session - though it didn’t help that 5 of his 7 deaths were all caused by the one person. Technically Jimmy didn’t do too badly, given he only lost a net 1.5 hours... but given that he was out of the series only an hour into the session, and also the first out entirely... it really didn’t go well for him either

I also find it interesting the sheer number of vertical lines this graph, the ones representing a death immediately followed by a kill or vice versa. I would love to figure out a way to show only one line at a time on the graph, so we can more easily see someone’s journey, but I haven’t had time to look into it yet.

Now onto the graph of the average times per team.

This one is super interesting to me, especially TIES’s line - they had the lowest average life right from the start, but somehow by Session 4, through Session 5, and for most of Session 6, they were the team with the highest average time, and then it quite literally went downhill from there. The only thing saving them from being last now is the fact that the Bad Boys are down to only a single living player, and even then Grian is doing far better than most of TIES.

It’s also interesting to me how Mean Gills had a significant time uptick at the end of both Session 6 and Session 7 (the first due to Martyn and the second due to Scott). Scott’s time was so high that it kept Mean Gills’ average time as yellow for all of Session 6 despite Martyn being red for most of it... and Martyn then got enough kills to keep it there. Mean Gills is also the only team in the entire graph to anywhere gain such consistent significant time.

These averages also coincide with the comments I made above about the time offset difference for each player from the start to end of the session. Mean Gills are doing well, but they’ve been doing well for so long that I’m sure most players are aware that they need to be a target. Nosy Neighbours are also doing well but I feel like they’ve flown under the radar, and are not a significant target right now.

I kept the dead players in the teams’ averages, since I think it is a better reflection of the teams’ strength as a whole, but I also created a version that excluded dead players. In those screenshots you can really see Bad Boys’ and TIES’ time jumping up at a death, instead of falling as it did here.

This makes Bad Boys look a lot better, because Grian does have a lot of time... but he is also alone. And there is definitely strength in numbers. Two players at an hour and a half each can fend off an attacker more easily than a single player at three hours can... unless nerves and panic get to them, as we definitely saw this session.

There is just so much death! Look at all the box outlines!! I could barely fit this data on two screens on the zoom I was on, and I did not want to zoom out further.

I also obviously have data for the averages, but it was too far away from the column with the times on it that I wasn’t sure if it would still be useful on its own? Let me know if you want to see it!

This has once again been fascinating to see, and I cannot wait to see how Session 8 will go. Will it be the last session? Will they go until everyone is dead? Will they somehow have enough people with enough time to get to Session 9? Will Mean Gills be the final two and get to play fun relaxing games like Scott was suggesting? 

Only time will tell.

Buffy has totally ruined me for any other show. Because in Buffy there are consequences to things. And I feel like few shows actually give the characters lasting, realistic consequences to things that they have to deal with. It's all a rush to solve everything before they have to move on to the next season's plot.

In Buffy, for example, when Willow went Dark Witch and almost killed everyone and destroyed everything, she had to deal with the consequences next season. Her character is affected in a very tangible way by what happened. And so are all the other characters around her, with regards to her. And they all have to get used to each other again and work through it. The show dedicates time to deal with what happened and for the characters to get through it. Because it matters! It matters to the character arcs, to the story, and to the viewers! We WANT to see the consequences and the aftermath and how characters are dealing with things! Not only because that's where the "juice" is in the show, but also because it helps us deal with our own shit in some way. Like, it's cathartic, I guess.

We want to see the aftermath, because it was a very dramatic, huge thing that happened and we want to see the characters recovering from it; we don't want the show to skip over it.

Then there are other shows where the characters deal with massive, insanely dark things, and then next season they're totally over it because that's last season's plot... It's like they can't "dwell" on last season's plot except for a throwaway line or two because they have to move on to the next big bad...

No! I want to see how it affected the characters!! Don't you see that's where the juice is?? I WANT to see how the characters are dealing and getting through what happened! I want to see consequences and how characters heal!! I want to see them changed by their experiences for better or worse.

Yeah. Buffy totally made me expect other shows to give that kind of attention to detail to their characters and their personal arcs.

Modern au scarian with the cactus ring being a bit is SO FUNNY there are so many ways this could go.... you've got the 3rd life is a play concept, you could have it be a spur of the moment joke with some cactus gummies, it could be a meme in a socmed au, maybe they just went on a hike and grian accidentally elbowed scar into a cactus and now nobody will let either of them live it down. The possibilities are endless im truly obsessed with this

So far we managed to get a cool sword from a cambion, saved arabella from Kauga, Oxga befriended a squirrel and Scott promptly kicked it into a tree right after, we tried and failed to rescue a tiefling child from some harpies. Have killed eachother by accident at least twice and on purpose three times, and have a total party kill at least 6 times.

Tango killed it this session, he did not cut corners in babbling to Torchy.

Gem: "I think your task is to remove light sources from the server." Tango: "That would be very incorrect." Tango as he sprints away, muttering to Torchy: "I know?? They were standing right by us and they didn't even notice??"

Torchy has such boogeyman tendencies, geez. Is this Leven Thumps; did we confine the spirit of the boogeyman to a piece of wood??

Tango, raiding someone's base: "You want to? We could."

I enjoy the new rule about Yellows having one chance to call people out on their task. I think this is a good move to up the tension and also encourage people to do it because you only get one shot per episode. Don't wanna waste it!

slkdjf @ Tango chatting with Etho, Etho susses out his task, so Tango immediately runs to Grian to confirm the rules. Grian tells him no problem, Etho's green so he's in the clear. Tango runs off crowing in laughter.

Lizzie: "I've heard some weird things about you." Tango: "We are excellent today." Lizzie: "That's the weird stuff I've been hearing."

Part 1: Being a mutant and joining Xavier’s school…

Summary: While on a mission you accidentally unlock another power…

It happened while on a mission…

You hadn’t been on many missions much less one this dangerous before but the team had needed as much manpower as they could get. Magneto and his brotherhood were at it again. And you and the others needed to try stop them.

You ran over the battlefield, rubble was sprawled everywhere. One of Magneto’s goons ran towards you readying herself for attack, you immediately used your telepathy to give her a psionic blast causing her to fall to the ground holding her head as she twisted and turned in pain.

You ran past her and continued looking for your fellow team mates. You then saw Jean, Ororo and Scott fighting together against Magneto. You knew you couldn’t be much help to them as Magneto’s helmet protected him telepathic power.

You continued running trying to get past them to find the others but all of a sudden Scott shot an optic blast at Magneto hitting his arm, making him fling an explosive he was carrying with his powers right towards you.

”Y/N” Ororo yelled making you turn to see the explosive flying towards you. You could do nothing but brace for impact. You closed your eyes and felt a blast against your chest. Then nothing.

Were you dead now…? If this was dying it didn’t hurt as you had thought. But wait how could you still think?… were you still alive?…

You opened your eyes seeing a cloud of dust and smoke surrounding you. Once it cleared you saw Jean, Ororo and Scott were staring at you. Even Magneto was looking your way, curious of what mutant he had accidentally almost killed.

You looked around confused how in hell had you survived that. Then you caught a glimpse of your hands and you almost screamed. ”What the-!” you said. Your hands were crystalline, like glass or diamond.

The explosive had made a big hole in your costume revealing your crytalized skin, your whole body had become like this.

”Amazing” Magneto muttred under his breath. Ororo used his current fasination with you to shoot lightning at him taking him down.

Once you had won the battle you went back to the X mansion, where they immediately rushed to figure out what had happened to you. After several scans the professor eventually uttred an astonished ”Amazing”.

”What?” you questioned. ”You seem to have developed a second mutation Y/n” he explained. Jean followed up saying ”Your body seems to have become a sort of organic diamond, which protected you from the explosive blast”.

”Is there anyway to turn it off?” you asked them. ”Try it” Jean urged. You did as told and suddenly you were back to your regular self. You then focused and made only your hands turn diamond. ”This is so cool” you said to yourself.

You immediately went to find Peter your roomate and closest friend at the school to show him your new powers. He then pointed out the irony that the two people who could shapeshift in to different materials at the school were also roomates.

Everyone SHUT UP i need a second to talk about the absolute perfect travesty of awarding the Life series winners (Grian, Peal, and Scott) the titles of the three tarot cards the Sun, the Moon, and the Star.

FIRST OFF?? The sun the moon the star is the WRONG order of how they show up in the major arcane!! The star is the 17th, moon the 18th, and sun the 19th!! It’s not exactly backwards but it IS out of order with The Sun being the first and The Moon as the most recent winner.

Now individually; Grian as the sun. The Sun is symbolic of life in full bloom, happiness and opportunity, it means success, it means the universe agrees with the path you’re on and the way ahead is clear. Grian, who accidentally indebted himself to scar, who fought against his soul bound the second he saw the other end. Who keeps killing the people closest to him. (He was only ever meant to watch)

Scott as The Star, it fits his aesthetic but BRO. The Star is healing, it’s renewal of old feelings, it’s a readiness to give and receive love. Scott, who divorced pearl right off the bat and picked a new soulmate who died in the end at the hand of pearl, who has continuously has partners who die before him every single time. (Oh look a poppy, what an ugly flower)

And Pearl, lovely Pearl, as the moon. The Moon, vague and unclear, things are not as they seem; deception. Usually caused by misunderstanding. Pearl, who was broken up with like 5 times and descended into her villain arc plain as day, who never really lied. Who still won at the end with forgiveness. (You came here and you caused death whether you tried to or not)

First post is here! Please note y/n and Flowey aren't actually involved in the general "Clover gets stuck in the pizzaplex" thing and are entirely optional depending on how you wanna view it. If Clover survives the pizzaplex they get adopted by y/n (blah blah legal adoption shit), if they die they just kinda. Well they're dead.

Please note I do not condone or support Scott Cawthon and his opinions or politics. Anybody who tries to argue with me or say I support him will be blocked.

Scattered thoughts about the AU in the read more below, they won't be organized very well sorry.

*When clover gets stuck in the Pizzaplex the first boss they have to deal with is Martlet. They kite her around before getting her to ram into a fuse box causing her systems to restart and the anti virus to work again.

*Clover is a big fan of the Wild West area of the pizzaplex and thinks North Star is super cool. So they ask Martlet to help them get there because in this childs brain of COURSE the Sheriff would know what to do and how to help!

*North Star genuinely does his best to help Clover but eventually gets attacked by another animatronic that messes up his system. He tries to kill Clover but with Martlet's help they both end up resetting his systems back to default.

*Guardner watches over the Pizzaplex's greenhouse area (Its my au and I want the pizzaplex to be as unhinged as the Mall of America so fuck you if you hate it I think its neat). Gaurdner isn't infected with the virus and just wants Clover dead because they accidentally broke a flower stem and she is SO TIRED of kids NOT RESPECTING THE RULES. They are banned from the Greenhouse forever (but not really let her calm down and she'll reverse it).

*The Feisty Four are now the bandits for the wild west area! Moray was originally from one of Foxy's attractions but was repurposed. Ed is the boss bandit with the other three basically acting as background characters for hijinks. The kids who visit the Wild West area of the pizzaplex are considered the Sheriff's deputies.

*Axis is a staff bot and he is very stubborn when it comes to his job. Yes he will still fall in love with a trash heap tho. Let my guy live a little damn.

*Y/n primarily works on the Wild West area bots and is constantly getting on North Star's case about his wires getting messed up. North Star constantly deals with scolding from y/n and barbs from Flowey.

*Y/n takes Flowey with them almost everywhere in the pizzaplex. He tends to swear at others so they decided it was safer if they could just carry him around and take him away from people.

*North Star was ECSTATIC to learn his favorite mechanic adopted his favorite Deputy. He constantly begs to be able to babysit Clover.

*North Star has a prior companionship to Sun and Moon, as they were all formerly theater bots. North Star however got the better end of the deal as he still gets to act in front of others.

*Martlet constantly sneaks food to Chica when nobody is looking. They're besties.

NO YOU DONT UNDERSTAND

Martyn’s betrayal isn’t just him betraying Scott, but the ideals of the entire season.

Limited Life has had the most stable alliances in the life series across the board, with everyone sticking with their ep 1 crew until the end. The theme of this season was loyalty, you guys.

The Clocker’s weren’t the only family, far from it. The entire series is like a sitcom — neighborhood drama. Everyone was related in some way, everyone cared about each other to an extent, and the bonds formed were never broken. Sure there were accidental team kills and mistrust between factions, but the teams themselves all were so individually devoted to each other.

It’s a perfect reflection of Last Life, last time the bogeyman sewed seeds of distrust and betrayal, now we see unwavering faith in spite of the curse. It’s hardly a curse anymore; as with any disease, those who have had it before have higher resistance. We have people resisting the urge to turn on their teams and instead confiding in them, working together to get them cured. The bogey doesn’t divide people, but bring them closer together because of the inherent trust in looking at someone you love, seeing the bloodlust in their eyes, and saying “I’m not leaving, we’re going to get you through this.”

The whole season feels more amicable for it, people are willing to make alliances in the final episodes with people who have hurt them before because there’s some small, remaining foundation of trust there. While Last Life was built on lies, words have weight in Limited Life. Promises are kept here. Grudges are dealt with. Fistfights are held to put past hurt behind them. People willingly offer their lives to each other, even if not on the same team. People beg their allies to kill them, just so they can have a little while longer.

So when it comes down to the final three, there’s no bad blood, they were working together earlier that very episode. They want a good, fair goodbye to their enemy, because he’s still their friend. So they redistribute time until they’re equal, they burn together to level the playing field, and they agree to do a fair 1v1v1. No weapons, no armor, may the best man win.

But that’s not what happens. Martyn has come too far to leave it to chance. He has no reason to honor this agreement so he doesn’t. He even goes after Scott first, betraying his closest ally to let Impulse know this isn’t about him. It’s not about making Impulse lose, it’s about making Martyn win.

In the season built on trust and good faith and interdependence and promises, Martyn breaks all of these in the final minute of the game.

The winners are always those who go against the grain, and Martyn is no exception.

Oh God, and Scott had just stood by and let him do it. He was the worst best friend ever. Stiles was going to kill him. Except, oh right, the alpha was going to kill him first. Like beyond dead, ripped into tiny little pieces dead. So far dead that his dad would not be able to identify him, dead.

What are life series things that happened in the series but you never/hardly see them used in fan content, and wish they were?

I’ll go first with the two that come to my mind immediately, both having Martyn for some reason:

- 3rd Life, Scott’s final death, when Martyn and Ren were chasing him, but Martyn wasn’t red so he couldn’t hurt Scott and instead tried to slow him down so Ren could catch him. One of Martyn’s attempts to get Scott to stop running (and the last one before Ren killed Scott I think!) was yelling stuff along the lines of “come here and give me a hug! I wanna cuddle before you die!” And I’ve never been the same since but nobody has done anything with it. Mean gills fans, I’m begging you. I don’t even care WHAT you do with this. Just anything.

- Double Life, we all know the boat boys died to that portal trap. People do plenty of fan content surrounding that. But what I DON’T see a lot of is the fact that Martyn went through the same portal trap, accidentally stumbling across the mine craft equivalent of their corpses. Pretty sure he got in the same spot Joel died. So Martyn’s “allies” (exes) had to pull him out of a crime scene. I’m like. Silently losing my mind about it and I don’t see any fan content with it. Martyn being stuck with Joel’s burning body in the portal trap that smelted Etho.

EDIT: SO I DOUBLE CHECKED AND I MISREMEMBERED. THEIR STUFF WAS NOT STILL THERE, IDK WHY I THOUGHT IT WAS. Making up memories fr 😭 but it’s still the same portal so yeah 😁
