Random thoughts about Hawaii Five-0 rewatch: part 2/?
Still trying to make sense, in sparse order, of some things I noticed and that made me question the mental stability of whoever decided determined plot points...
Thought #3: missed chance to be a fucking adult, evolved human being and not a caveman about divorced couples, or: if you had started with the intention of showing how Danny and Rachel could rebuild affection and understanding, why fucking slaughter her character that way?!?!
At the end of s1, I suppose it's in the Shorelines extra? anyway, the authors talk extensively about how it was their endgame since the pilot to portray the subtle change and the evolution of the relationship between Danny and Rachel, meaning: they wanted to show how two people, who once loved each other enough to decide to share a lifetime together, had fallen apart and started hating each other just as much because that's what happens in life, but in the end, slowly, thanks to life's twists and turns, they managed to find back the chemistry, the trust, the support, the love they had lost, creating a new kind of bond.
~~~~~~follows under the cut~~~~~~
Which....cool, really. It's fantastic. I obviously don't like the idea of no-mcdanno, but in a way I can really appreciate the intention of portraying something clearly fictional but way better, healthier and more hopeful than what happens in reality like, 70% of the times. My parents would immediately slaughter each other even after more than 30 years after the divorce. I have friends and ex colleagues who are just the same and cannot even be decent enough not to shit over each other in front of their children, making them part of their feud. In Italy, every three days a woman is murdered by her husband, ex husband, fiancee, partner, ex partner. The other 30% is barely civil enough to pretend NOT TO want to murder the other ex spouse.
So, cool. Good intention, I appreciated it, even if I don't agree with Danny sleeping with his ex wife behind her rightful husband's back.
Then 2x01 happened and ok, everything between them fell apart. Probably Danny didn't really believe the baby was Stan's, but it didn't matter because in the end he trusted Rachel and that was enough. He helped her deliver Charlie. He was a good friend. They could've kept this storyline, show how ex spouses can become civil and affectionate again, share a different love, explore the nuances of an extended family. Everything could've been normal and healthy.
So what the fuck happened with the whole "Stan wants to move to Vegas" and then "Rachel always knew Charlie was Danny's but had decided to keep him in the dark because she wanted to decide for everyone"?!?
Ready? The answer comes, plain and simple, in the following seasons' Shorelines commentaries.
They wanted to put Danny through an emotional grinder and imagine how he'd react, but most of all, they wanted to throw a curveball (multiple curveballs including Steve's storyline) at the audience, to hook them, shock them, and make sure they'd be unable not to be there for the next season to see what will happen.
That's it. That's the great mastermind masterplan.
Cheap shocking for the sake of audience ratings.
Ok, I get that after all the mess Rachel did, she probably didn't get much of a saying in Stan's relocation purpose...even if she could've been the friend Danny had been, and left Grace with him, moving only with Charlie and maybe getting Grace for school breaks. Anyway, that's a normal and believable kind of shock/curveball.
But the whole "Charlie’s paternity clusterfuck"?? I mean, it's not even realistically believable! In my 44 years, I've witnessed THIS EXACT SITUATION TWICE!! And in both cases, first thing the cheated husband did, apart from asking immediately for a divorce, was asking for a paternity test! That's what normal, real people do, if they KNOW their wife had an affair and suspiciously GETS PREGNANT immediately after!!
Unless you're a complete idiot who has no experience whatsoever of how the real world works, there's only one explanation for this mess: that you wanted us to imply that Rachel didn't even tell Stan about the cheating, that she simply told him, generically, that their marriage wasn't working anymore and she wanted to go back home, and made him believe that the baby had been conceived during their last-effort trip before Danny was poisoned....right after she'd made sure she'd get pregnant with Danny's kid to trap him with guilt AND need, and then lied to both men. FOR YEARS.
I call this clusterfuck one name only: character's assassination.
There were so many ways, even after s2 and s3 events had happened, they could've brought that shocking curveball forward, because the path they chose only managed to depict Rachel as a mean, cheating, liar bitch who managed to play both men. It's horrible, and chauvinist, and toxic.
She could've been genuinely sure Charlie was Stan's, and only with the disease outbreak and the test both Rachel and Stan had learnt about the truth. Stan could've kicked her out and Danny could've swept in like a real hero to help a friend who once was his love, or maybe they could've explored the difficulties of rebuilding a family.
More simply, Charlie could've been genuinely Stan's but Stan could've given her an ultimatum about Vegas and they could've divorced because Rachel couldn't bear the situation anymore, and made Stan go through what Danny had suffered with the move to Hawai'i.
Charlie could've been Danny's, and she could've decided to come clean with both instead of the whole shared custody arc (this situation, of course, implies that they could've been so far-sighted to imagine a several-seasons arc for Danny and Rachel, instead of improvising for the sake of shock).
Stan could've died, and Danny could've found himself suddenly in charge not only of his daughter and ex wife, but also acting as a father figure for a little kid who wasn't his, but who was his daughter's little brother thus deserving love and protection, making his genuine amazing humanity shine.
These are just some things I'm coming up with, right now, while I'm working and not even plotting, and avoiding any hypothesis implying both Stan's and Rachel's timely death to allow Danny the troubling experience of being a single father of two kids, maybe suddenly discovering that Charlie is his.
There were so many interesting nuances they could've explored, to make sure that they could've followed their initial masterplan about rebuilding a human bond between Danny and Rachel, AND granted them enough shock and emotional distress to hook the audience to the following seasons. Kinda like what they did, more respectfully, with the reveal of Harry's paternity.
They simply chose the cheapest route: harpy, bitch, whore ex wife cheats on both husbands and ruins everyone's life.
Good job.
The Spiderwick Chronicles (2008)
Tumblr media
The general tone of The Spiderwick Chronicles and an admittedly unnecessary scene of griffin-ridding make it clear it was made to capitalize on the Harry Potter craze. Call it an imitator if you want but this is great family entertainment, the kind I could see children cherishing for years.
Following his parents’ divorce, Jared (Freddie Highmore), his twin brother Simon (also Highmore), their older sister Mallory (Sarah Bolger) with into a new home with their mother Helen (Mary-Louise Parker). In it, Jared finds an old book which reveals a hidden world of magical creatures all around us: goblins, hobgoblins, fairies, brownies, boggarts and more. The book's re-emergence also draws out the shapeshifting ogre Mulgarath (Nick Nolte), who seeks its power and knowledge.
If you didn’t know any better, you’d swear Freddie Highmore has a twin brother, so good is he in the dual role. It isn’t merely that he’s able to convincingly play his parts when acting against green-screens or computer-generated characters, it’s that he creates two distinct people so convincingly you’re sold on everything happening around him, no matter how fantastical. You kind of give children’s films the benefit of the doubt when it comes to the performances but this is superb stuff. In no time at all you're all in with this story.
The Spiderwick Chronicles can get a little frightening. Nick Nolte on a normal day looks menacing and when surrounded with sharp-toothed goblins, little kids may find this picture too intense. Rather than turn children away, however, I think this will make them appreciate it all the more. How many of your favourite childhood movies featured death, monsters or peril from which - at the time - you didn’t think the heroes could escape from? Adults like horror films and I think deep down children do too… as long as it isn’t too extreme. Director Mark Waters finds the right balance. There’s tension and intense scenes but it’s softened with plenty of humour and much wonder. The creatures Jared learns about in the book? They’re all really cool while also remaining faithful to the legends of old.
The best way to describe this family adventure is “fun”. The kids get to be the stars and tackle a big threat but a quality screenplay by Karey Kirkpatrick, David Berenbaum and John Sayles makes everything feel right. The special effects are great and the characters surprisingly well-developed. The children in this film are not simply precocious little creatures, they’re real human beings with flaws… who are also capable of change. There’s a subplot about the children’s father who I think will strike a cord with many audience members. The way it ties into the film’s overall theme of divulging information or holding it back is excellent but subtle. Well done!
I couldn’t tell you why The Spiderwick Chronicles was only a moderate box-office success. Track it down and show it to your nieces and nephews, or if you’re old enough, watch it with your kids. It’s an overlooked gem for the whole family. (On DVD, February 1, 2019)
The Mosley Review: Cowboy Bebop (Season 1)
Tumblr media
There are many series and films out there that are considered the ultimate gateway into the art form of anime. Akira, Ghost in the Shell, Trigun and Dragon Ball Z are among the top tier entry points for anime of all time, but none of them are as beloved as Cowboy Bebop. My gateway into anime was Cowboy Bebop and it was love at first sight. Many nights I stayed up to watch the a new episode of the American Dubbed version during Cartoon Network's adultswim line up and I was blown away each time. The series had everything I love about film and great storytelling in a very digestible and smooth design. The show was followed up with a feature length film that was just as exciting, fun and fueled by an amazing soundtrack. This anime had so many themes of philosophy, humanity, romance and a style that was ripped from classic 70's detective stories and spaghetti westerns. It was inevitable that the day would come that my favorite anime of all time would fall prey to a live action adaption. That day has come and I was genuinely surprised by how much care was taken to bring the world and vibe of the anime to life. There are some serious alterations and mistakes made throughout this adaptation but for the most part, it was actually pretty good. Now I can go very in depth of what was wrongfully changed and adapted well from the original, but I won't do it for everything. I will just highlight the most glaring issues this show has while staying far to this adaptation. First up is the most important thing I hoped they got right or else this showed would've failed from the start; the characters.
Tumblr media
Each character in the anime had a full story and some were thin, but their story was explained in a number of exposition scenes and flashbacks that were subtle and did the job. That artistry is gone in this series and it was a real shame. What we got was a more fleshed out and sometimes boring new take on the iconic characters. John Cho was absolutely fantastic and the right choice to play Spike Spiegel. He captures the snarky, brash and cool vibe of the character who has a complicated and bloody past. He plays up the heart of the character and you see the more emotional connection he has with his friends. I liked that we got a look at his carrier in the Red Dragon Syndicate. Would I have liked this version of Spike to be a little younger? Sure, but for this adaptation, he was a great choice either way. Mustafa Shakir was outstanding as the older, gruff and gritty former cop Jet Black. He nailed the character's belief in having a plan, his love for classic jazz and philosophy. I really hated that they gave him a terrible stereotypical divorced parent storyline that never existed for him in the anime. His original story was already compelling with his past love life and the reason behind the loss of his arm. The chemistry between him and Cho's Spike is the true highlight of the show and it was perfect. Their constant jabs at each other and bickering over each bounty was fun to watch. Daniella Pineda was great as Faye Valentine and she nailed her sassy, loud, sometimes over the top and determined personality. They explore her backstory and slightly change it, but not enough to where we miss out on the same emotional gut punch it actually is. Once she is on the Bebop with Spike and Jet, she almost immediately becomes apart of the crew and I loved how they all hit it off. They're all messed up in many ways, but this is a crew of bounty hunters I like alot.
Tumblr media
The main villain in this adaption was drastically altered and sometimes wattered down from his original creepy, intimidating and mysterious persona. Alex Hassell does a great job as Vicious and I liked that we got to see him working out his ultimate plan. He looked and sometimes sounded like his anime counterpart, but I felt he became such a whiny character throughout the season. His mystique is completely lost in this adaptation and he just comes off as another power hungry maniac with daddy issues. The chemistry between him and Spike was excellent though and you truly feel their friendship before the eventual friction between them begins. Elena Satine was alright as Julia, but the character was completely portrayed wrong in the end. I understand that they wanted to give her more of a story since she, like Vicious, was more illusive throughout the anime and not really on screen much, but this was just boring. You see her motivations coming from a mile away and she was the least compelling character of the show. Tamara Tunie was good as the new character Ana and I liked her connection to Spike and Vicious. Mason Alexander Park was alright as Gren, Ana's right hand. In the anime, Grin was a male who became a hermaphrodite and I thought he was more compelling than Mason's reimagining. Now one of my favorite villains in the anime was Pierrot Le Fou and they got half of him correct in this series. Josh Randall captured the weird and psychotic nature of the character expertly. He was absolutely terrifying in the anime and that almost carried over in to live action. The reason why I say almost is because his motivation for trying to kill Spike was completely altered and so was his weakness. This truly frustrated to no end, but didn't stop me from finishing the show.
Tumblr media
The soundtrack was as iconic as the characters were in the original anime and I was so happy that composer Yoko Kanno & Seatbelts returned to do the score for the live action series. The soundtrack featured almost all the classic tracks from the anime and were in the correct moments, but I also loved the new jams that were created. There was absolutely no way you could even have this series without "Tank!" opening each episode and call it Cowboy Bebop. I don't think I would've even given this show a chance without Yoko or Seatbelts. Visually the show is stunning and takes full advantage of its color pallet and funky angles that felt right. The action in the show starts off very stiff and I wish the fighting was more fluid and sometimes raw and not so mechanical. You can almost count the beats and see the stunt crew give the signals for the actors to duck or react. For everything they got wrong, this was actually a decent adaptation of an iconic anime. It may not have been a 1:1 recreation and completely ruined a number of characters, but it is not the worst adaptation I've ever seen even if it ends with that god awful twist. In the end, this was a decent jam session where you support the band, but you know that they need way more time to study their material. The Netflix Original series and the original anime are now streaming on the platform. Let me know what you thought of the show or my review in the comments below. Thanks for reading!
So, Terminator 3.   T2 was such a huge hit that everyone just assumed a third movie was a given, but it took twelve years for it to finally happen.    The Wikipedia article has a section about the delay, but it’s really long and complicated, and I’m not that interested anymore.   The main takeaway is that James Cameron, who directed the first two movies, wasn’t involved in the making of T3.   Apparently, he really wanted to do it in 1995, but by the time the rights and everything got squared away, he got busy doing Titanic and Avatar or whatever else, and he decided that he’d already told the story he wanted to tell in the first two movies.   But he did tell Arnold Schwarzenegger to go for it if he got an offer.
I guess the reason I’m explaining all of this was because I always thought Cameron did make T3, and the reason Linda Hamilton wasn’t in it was because of hard feelings over their divorce in 1999.  Which sounds kind of dumb now that I type it out.    A fan would think that, because they see actors appearing or not appearing in movies as the ultimate sanction, but for them it’s strictly business.   Arnold was in T3 because they paid him $30 million, not because he desperately wanted to play the character again.   According to the Wikipedia article, Hamilton wasn’t in the movie because there just wasn’t much they could do with Sarah Connor in the story.    Her role was to prepare John Connor for his own role.   This movie features him as an adult, so there’s nothing more for her to do.    Hamilton recognized this, and declined to participate.
I think T3 had a lot going against it, because it had so much to live up to, and fans of T2 had been waiting so long.   I think everyone wanted the T3 movie James Cameron might have made in 1995, but what they got in 2003 was this movie, which didn’t quite live up to the hype.   I’m not sure anything else could have lived up to the hype, though.    T2 had some mighty big shoes to fill.
The big problem is that it’s basically the same plot structure as T2.  Two more Terminators come from the future and they fight over the life of John Connor.   After escaping the bad Terminator, John tries to stop Skynet from taking over and nuking humanity, and they end up having a final showdown with the bad Terminator along the way.  It really is the same movie in a lot of ways, so it just begs to be compared to T2, which only magnifies its flaws.
The main difference is that John thought he already stopped Skynet years ago, so he’s horrified to learn that he only postponed the inevitable.    He goes to a lot of trouble to try again, but the audience probably already anticipates that this won’t work.  T2 was ambiguous about this, but T3 actually shows the nuclear missiles launching and destroying their targets.   So it’s kind of a downer to watch.   We even learn that Future John will die in 2032, because the good Terminator in this movie was the one who kills him, before he got reprogrammed to protect Present John.
The other difference is the addition of Kate Brewster, who’s fated to become John’s second-in-command and wife.   The bad Terminator was actually sent to kill her and other would-be Resistance leaders, until it discovers John and changes priorities.    Future Kate is also the one who sends the good Terminator back in time.   I never fully understood Kate’s purpose in the movie, since she’s basically a spare John, but I think they needed a viewpoint character.    In T1, Sarah was the viewpoint character, then it was John in T2.   But in T3, Sarah’s dead and John already knows all about this stuff, so there needed to be a new character with a special destiny.   The trouble is that I don’t think Kate gets a chance to digest this very well, probably because we’ve already covered this twice before already.
I think this is the movie where the time travel stuff really went off the rails.  T1 was very consistent about establishing a predestination paradox.   T2 hinted that the future could be changed, but never made it clear whether it actually changed or not.   The value was in the attempt, not the result.   But the T-850 tells John that “Judgement Day is inevitable”, and that he only postponed it from its original date in 1997.  So they managed to change the future, just not enough.   Fair, but how does the T-850 know this?   Shouldn’t he be from the same altered future, where Judgement Day happened in 2003?
Also, this movie introduces more Terminator varieties.   In the first movie, the T-800 is stated to be new in the future.   Then in the second movie, the T-800 admits that the T-1000 is much more sophisticated, because it’s an “advanced prototype.”   In this movie, the T-850 claims to be obsolete, and says the T-X is much more advanced.   So it sounds like Skynet was busily inventing better Terminators for these missions, except it shouldn’t have had time for that.   It lost the war and had to use the time machine as a last-ditch effort.  It’s weird enough that it used the time machine three times, but it shouldn’t have had years to do this.   The Human Resistance captured the time machine shortly after winning the war, right?   I really hope T4 explains some of this.
Roger Ebert called this movie “Essentially one long chase and fight, punctuated by comic, campy or simplistic dialogue."   The first 24 minutes are fairly dull, but once it gets rolling, it’s pretty fun to watch.    But he’s right.   When I watched all the DBZ movies in 2019, I realized that Movie 7 is just one big fight scene, with some slice of life stuff at the beginning to set things up.    T3′s basically the same, with very little else to occupy its time.   T1 had the relationship between Sarah and Kyle, and T2 had Sarah’s hangups and John’s bonding with “Uncle Bob”.   T3 really only has Kate and John hanging on for dear life as their protector drags them through the story.    It’s a fun chase, with lots of guns and explosions and breaking stuff, but there’s not much more to it.
So what’s good about this movie?  What makes it really stand out?   Well, for openers, the T-X is pretty cool.  The T-1000 was going to be difficult to top, and I don’t think the T-X ever succeeded, but it wasn’t for lack of trying.   She has liquid metal on top of an endoskeleton, so she can disguise herself, but she can’t seep under doors and stuff like that.   Also, she has weapons built into her body, so she’s the only time traveler who could actually bring future weapons with her into the past.   Also, she can control machines, like when she hijacks a bunch of police cars and fire trucks to help her chase down John.   She’s ridiculously overpowered, and she does not give a fuck who knows it.  The previous Terminators at least attempted to keep a low profile, revealing themselves only when ready to attack, but the T-X just wreaks havoc all over the place.    She’s not worried about the authorities or a lack of firepower, or anything at all, so she’s free to execute her mission with reckless abandon.
Second, I take some solace in John Connors personal crisis in this movie.  He was kind of chill about the whole thing in T2, because he got his mom back and he had a cool robot pal, and they seemed to have the whole Skynet problem figured out.     In this movie, Sarah’s dead, and he doesn’t know what to do with himself.  He can’t quite believe that Judgement Day won’t come, so he lives off the grid and tries to avoid everyone.   He doesn’t want the Future War to happen, but at the same time, his life has no purpose without it.   Later, he becomes despondent and says that he must not be the chosen one after all, because he’s no leader and he never was.
Except, he is, and he has to be, and he becomes one at the end of the movie, when he finally accepts his fate.   There’s something very powerful about the shot of Kate holding his hand as he prepares to give orders to the other survivors on the radio.  They’re stuck in this dark future now, and they have to see it through together.
I think, whenever I watched these movies before, that I never really “got” John Connor as a character.  In T2 he was a kid, so I just wrote him off.   He wasn’t John Connor yet, so it didn’t matter much.    In T3, he seemed extremely pathetic, and I took his lack of confidence at face value.   I thought he really wasn’t ready to lead, and he only ended up in that role by default.    But this time around, I see how in T2 he was the moral center of the good guy team.   Sarah was lashing out at everyone and the Terminator only cared about mission objectives, but John kept reminding everyone of the value of human life, and what they were all fighting for.   Even as a kid, he got “it” in a way that others didn’t.   In T3, he’s demoralized, but he still knows how to do this stuff, and how to lead.  He just doesn’t feel motivated until the final act of the movie.
That didn’t stick with me when I first saw this movie in ‘03, but I’m older now, and less sure of myself than I used to be, and all the validation I get feels hollow and unconvincing.  Like John, I may be aware that I have the capacity to do things, but it doesn’t always feel like it’s enough.  That’s what T3 has that T2 doesn’t.   It’s that crisis of confidence that separates the two films, although it’s subtle enough that it’s easy to overlook.
Everything Wrong With The Umbrella Academy. Episode 1, We Only See Each Other At Weddings and Funerals.
Some context before the cut: This is all in good fun! I wanted to do a really nitpicky re-watch of the series and found some really cool and interesting things I didn’t notice before. This is meant to have a Cinema Sins-esque tone. However, I did take off a lot more sins than Cinema Sins would have because I do genuinely like the series and the people that made it possible. So all of the good things got one sin off and all the bad things got one sin added. This is a really long post, so grab some popcorn. If there’s anything that I missed, feel free to add it!
We Only See Each Other At Weddings And Funerals
The story opens with a random scene. I know why this is important now, but for a first time viewer this is a strange Russian show with no subtitles. Sin for the fact that this opening scene could drive away audiences when they could have opened with Pogo’s monologue or the sudden birth scene. +1
Sudden birth. I know that this is what starts the whole series, but not once do these assholes discuss the implications of sudden birth. That shit is traumatic and must have induced a lot of trauma in the mothers. Sinning for trauma. +1
The russian ladies all help this poor girl. Teamwork and togetherness gets a sin off. -1
How did they get her swimsuit off enough for her to give birth without just taking the whole thing off? Did one woman happen to have a pair of scissors on her so they could cut the crotch? Because one piece suits are not that flexible downstairs. They didn’t take it off her, it’s still covering her. Sinning for lack of realism or explanation. +1
This narration should have happened much sooner. +1
Buying children. Literally buying children. And he gets seven so he buys them wholesale. Seven sins because Sir Reginald Hargreeves is a dick that bought seven children. +7
One sin off for the soundtrack now. All the songs used in this show are bops! -1
Ellen Page starts playing the Lindsey Stirling Phantom of the Opera piece on the lowest string when the piece starts on a high note. One sin for lack of musicality. +1
Minus one sin for Ellen Page’s vibrato. Not many people pretending to play the violin get that so accurate. That or this was the talented body double. Either way one sin off for musicality. -1
“Please send more food” Reginald Hargreeves is a dick to his adopted children. He didn’t feed Luther enough, so who knows what he did to the ones he didn’t like as much. +7
Also, Luther has presumably spent four years in this base on the moon. Did he hit his head every morning? You would think that he would learn to duck. +1
One sin off for the moon plant. -1
I’m taking 10 sins off for the special effects of this entire series. -10
That car transition between Diego’s and Allison’s entrances was out of place. I know it’s meant to show that Allison is far away from the action. But did we really need that? It’s not shown when transitioning from the red carpet to Klaus in rehab. +1
What is keeping the lawnchair that Luther has on the moon down? It looks lightweight. Does he have it nailed to the moon? Is there now a lawnchair on the moon forever? +1
Tom Hopper is an excellent actor. He nailed the “just got the news that my father is dead” without saying a single word. -1
Diego doesn’t bother to untie the family he saves. He caused property damage and severely injured the thugs that broke in. No wonder Patch has a problem with him being a vigilante. +1
“Allison, will you wear Valentino to the funeral” +1
One sin off because Robert Sheehan has already won my heart as Klaus and he hasn’t said a single word yet. And for the little jig he does when he gets the drugs. Interesting choice, but I like it. I could be biased because I’ve watched the series already, but I don’t care. One sin off for Robert Sheehan. -1
Why was Vanya allowed to be playing to this empty theatre with spotlights on her? Does she have an arrangement with maintenance? Is that why the orchestra isn’t set up? +1
One sin off for the Hargreeves mansion. The set designers did an amazing job.-1
Creepy shrine portrait of Five is creepy and somehow manages to not look like Aidan Gallager. This could be a stylistic choice to show that Reggie didn’t care about Five, in which case, another sin for child abuse. +1
Creepy statue of Ben is creepy. And it doesn’t look like Justin Min or Ethan Hwang. Who is this statue honoring? +1
It has been stated that Ben’s death broke up the academy. Yet, the other four assholes stuck around for one more portrait after his death? +1
Vanya doesn’t close the doors behind her when she walks into the mansion. +1
Diego’s outfit is central to introducing his character. However, it is dumb as hell and he probably stabbed himself with the knives in the harness multiple times. Especially the ones on his back. +1
Diego is a dick to Vanya at their father's funeral. I know Reggie was a jackass, but Jesus Christ, Diego. Have some tact. I know this is meant to show that Diego doesn’t have any tact, but this is such a severe line. +1
In the first shot of Reggie’s bedroom there are 6 freaking lamps. What is he, Bella Swan? And later, there are three more. +1
David Castaneda really brings Diego to life with his interaction with Luther in Reggie's bedroom. -1
I know I already took sins off for the special effects, but Pogo deserves another two off. Special Effects team, you did good. -2
“How long has it been since Five dissapered” is the most obvious bit of exposition/foreshadowing. To the point where it reads lazy. Another option would be Vanya asking “How long has it been since” and trailing off from there. Pogo knows what happened. This is a crucial reveal, let the audience wait for it a bit. +1
One sin off for Vanya being a good sister to Five. Fluffernutter sandwiches and leaving the lights on is heartwarming.  -1
Props to these child actors for being able to portray the way Reggie treats them and how that affects their emotions in the scene where they wanted to say goodnight to Reggie. -1
However, Reginald Hargreeves is a dick to his adopted children. I will keep sinning this. +7
After Reggie shuns and ignores his children, Luther’s hand on Ben’s shoulder is a subtle way to show that Luther and Ben were sort of close, which is what an excerpt from Vanya’s book implies in the comics. Good job directors or actors for making that choice! -1
Robert Sheehan in the office scene. This is where we meet Klaus as an audience for the first time with dialogue, and he fucking nails it.  -1
“Thank God he’s not our real father so we couldn’t inherit those cold dead eyes! Ahh! Number Threee-” The delivery on that line is excellent. -1
Klaus’s dangly necklace that looks kind of like dog tags foreshadowing the real dog tags he wears later on in the show. -1
No way in hell Klaus’s skimpy outfit provided enough concealment for that massive box. In fact, in the shots we do see of his back, we should have seen the outline of the box. +1
Sir Reginald Hargreeves is as obsessed with lamps as he is with collecting children. His office is full of them! +1
“Do you think he wears that thing in the bathroom” “Like in the shower” “Yes, absolutely” Allison and Luther have some good interactions. This is where they really act like siblings making fun of another sibling. -1
A woman who told bedtime stories to her kid about her uncle on the moon forgets that said uncle has been on the moon and judges him when he doesn’t know about her divorce.+1
“Rumor thing” Way to be specific, Luther. +1
Allison’s expression at the family meeting when she takes a sip of her drink. Emmy Raver-Lampman is what makes this character likeable. -1
Reginald Hargreeves was a dick to his children. The whole favorite spot thing? Yeah that. Golden child abuse victim. +7
Sir Reginald playing tennis with Hitler line. -1
Luther accuses his siblings of killing their father. Have some tact man, not at the funeral. This makes sense for the character and his circumstances, but I am still sinning it because Luther doesn’t think he did anything wrong. +1
I feel kind of bad for Luther after his siblings leave the room. Great acting on Tom Hopper’s part. -1
How did Allison get into the bank? +1
Luther straight up throws this man out of a building! That guy is 100% dead. And then he admonishes Five for being a killer later! +1
“Guns are for sissies, real men throw knives!” is a line that would only be spoken by a twelve year old that has never faced the judgement of people he isn’t related to. Also, Diego practiced this line in front of a mirror. +1
But that throw was badass, so... -1
Also, how did Klaus, Diego, Five, and Ben get into the bank as well? We only see Luther enter. And presumably Five teleported in. So were the rest already in there? +1
Five manages to jump faster than a bullet here, but in episode two he’s a lot slower when jumping from one side of the table to the other. You could make the argument that the table is in the way, but there was a human being and a bullet in the way here. +1
“Woah! That’s one badass stapler!” This is the first sin off because Aidan Gallagher can act, and it will not be the last. For all his grumpy 58 year old man, he also manages to shine while playing a young version of said grumpy 58 year old man. You would think that one or the other would be a little weak, but no he nails both performances. -1
But, how did Five switch the gun and the stapler? And why do we never see him do this again with more useful items like a briefcase or one of the machine guns used by the local commission hires? Can he only switch items with a similar mass? How does this power work? +1
Luther is the one that tells Ben that there's more guys in the vault to kill. Not Klaus who could have been like “a ghost said there's more guys in the vault”. What exactly did Klaus do on missions? He isn’t shown helping the hostages or fighting in any way. +1
“I didn’t sign up for this.” yeah Ben, like it’s a summer camp and not your abusive father buying you as an infant and then forcing you to kill people. +1
Kenny’s mom appearance. Also, the woman mixes leopard print leggings, a black dress, a square pattern cardigan, and a hat with stripes and a pom-pom. +1
“Can we go home now” Ethan Hwang had great delivery on that line. -1
Sir Reginald Hargreeves is a dick to his children. He forces 6 of them to kill, and then makes it seem like it’s all fun and games to the one he isolates. +7
When did they get coats and scarves? Did Reggie bring them coats and scarves while coming down to address the crowd? +1
Also, Reggie was on the roof of a different building with vanya! What did the kids do while they were waiting for him? Stand around and look pretty? Not likely, Ben was covered in blood. +1
Also, when did Ben have time to clean up? He is significantly less bloody in the scene where Reggie talks to the press. Yet his mask, uniform, and a bit of his jaw still have blood. This suggests he had time to wipe down. What kind of magic wipes are these that soak up and remove blood quickly and where can I get them? +1
The way the children wear their scarves show their personality. Luther has it done properly, Diego has his flapping around, Allison and Klaus have tied it fashionably, Five has it done well, but not as proper, and Ben has it done like Luthers. Well done costume people or actors who made that character choice. -1
The entire scene when Klaus attempts to summon Reggie from the afterlife. -4
I forgot that Klaus actually calls him Reggie in this scene. I thought it was just a fandom thing lmao. -1
How did Klaus clean up the ashes without leaving evidence on the bar? Did he vacuum it? +1
The cutesy fighting posters are a great set design choice. -1
Allison had her trauma tattoo refreshed at some point. It’s faded on Klaus, but on her it’s perfectly visible and stark. I’m sinning because they don’t show or tell why Allison might want to do this. +1
Also, that guitar Klaus was cuddling in a later scene, was just in the kitchen for some reason. Why? +1
Five and Ben are not part of the I Think We’re Alone Now dance party. I know it’s for plot, but come on! They don’t even have another dance party later to make up for this. +1
Diego and Vanya totally saw each other when Diego went to close the door between the foyer and the living area. +1
Luther and Vanya’s dance moves. No hate on either though because I dance like them if it isn’t swing or any other partnered dance +1
Diego, Klaus, and Allison’s dance moves. -1
Also, the song is heard all the way in the kitchen. There is no soundproofing in this mansion. +1
Luther punching down the airplane is funny. -1
David Castaneda doing those amazing dance moves in character. -1
Oh hello Five. Nice of you to show up and kickstart the plot into being something other than washed up superheroes are really sad and abused. +1
“Daddy!” -1
Why were Five’s powers affecting random objects? +1
Klaus is the only one with self preservation. “I vote for running” +1
“Does anyone else see little Number Five, or is that just me” is a great line because Klaus can see the dead. However, the dead don’t show up in massive portals, otherwise something like that would have happened when we see Dave in The Day That Wasn’t. +1
Five asks for an exact date and then Vanya gives him “the 24th” real specific, Vanya +1
Five doesn’t close the fridge properly because that doesn’t matter in the apocalypse -1
“In the end I had to project my consciousness forward into a suspended quantum state version of myself that exists across every possible instance of time” “That makes no sense” “well it would if you were smarter” the mark of someone being smart is being able to explain concepts like this in layman's terms. If Five were as smart as he said he was, then he could have been able to come up with an analogy. That or the showmakers have no clue what they’re talking about and wrote a bunch of science-y bullshit to make Five sound smart. +1
Diego was ready to throw hands with Five, someone who looks thirteen and was thirteen until Five explained otherwise. +1
“Dolores kept saying the equations were off” so in other words, Five knew that his equations were off, but he still risked it. +1
But also, Five knew his equations were off, but he was so desperate to see his family that he risked it anyway. -1
Nations Gazette paper has articles that look like they’re actually about the headline. -1
“What part of the future do you not understand.” -1
Aidan Gallagher’s delivery in that scene really set the tone for his character. Impressive. -1
Five decides to dress in the full on school boy getup. Complete with the tie and the blazer when those items aren’t necessary. +1
Aidan Gallagher and Ellen Page are two kick ass actors. They play off each other surprisingly well. -1
“You mean like what happened to Ben” “Was it bad?” What happened to Ben? This remains a sin until they explain it. +1
“May the darkness within you find peace in the light” that sounds really bad. What a horrible thing to have on your statue. +1
Jordan Claire Robbins’s performance of Grace -1
Luther and Diego are so emo that they don't need umbrellas. You’re in The Umbrella Academy! This had to be a personal choice to not carry one. +1
Klaus’s face when Luther dumps out the ashes. -1
The camera cuts to Five when Diego says that Mom gave them actual names. -1
The fight between Luther and Diego is stupid. +1
Klaus and Five fight over who is going to protect who. +1
“Stop it!” “Hit him! Hit him!” -1
The detail on Ben’s statue. It shows his toe and knee have been touched many times by people who presumably miss him and love him. -1
Luther punches Ben’s statue in the crotch, which makes Klaus’s face 10x funnier once you remember that Ben was probably there too. -1
Luther punches Ben’s statue in the crotch and beheads it, suggesting that Luther had something to do with Ben’s death. -1
Luther punches Ben’s statue in the crotch. +1
Klaus puts his cigarette out in reggie’s ashes. -1
Reggie narration +1
Reggie is a dick to his kids +7
The stupid, bright green jumpsuits +6
What is the point of this exercise? How does running up the stairs make them better heroes? +1
Young Diego either practiced “That’s not fair, Five’s cheating” or his stutter is only there when the plot calls for it. +1
Child Abuse tattoos +12
The fact that Vanya feels left out because she didn’t get a child abuse tattoo. Reggie, you fucked up these kids real bad. +2
We think that Reggie is comforting Luther after he got a child abuse tattoo, but no, he’s actually just attaching monitors to his head. +1
Reginald Hargreeves likes to watch young children sleep. +7
Vanya foreshadowing. Her monitor showing more activity then the cut to her taking one of the pills is brilliant. -1
Vanya still doesn’t close the academy door behind her when she leaves. +1
“An entire square block, 42 bedrooms 19 bathrooms” Five are you a real-estate agent now? +1
“Dad hated children too, but he had plenty of us!” Klaus would be excellent at cinema sins. Seven more for child abuse +7
What are the rules to Five’s jumps? We only really see him jump to places he can see unless he is time traveling or in the instance where he jumps to the car. Speaking of, the car had the keys in it. Reggie, are you trying to get it stolen  +1
Diego is a dick to Allison about her divorce. +1
Klaus and Diego’s interactions make me happy. -1
The Klaus theme is a wonderful piece of music. -1
Robert Sheehan making David Castaneda laugh. -1
We get our first glimpse of Luther’s arm here. It’s super weird and vague and only teases the reveal. This is where the ape reveal should have been for the audience and where it would have made sense. Doing the reveal in a later episode is weird. +1
Five doesn’t know how to break correctly, which contradicts “I know how to do everything” +1
Something I just noticed, Five completed the uniform not only with the tie and blazer, but with the hair gel too. +1
The towing guy chooses to sit next to Five at an empty counter. +1
Five looks so offended when Agnes refers to him as “the kid” -1
The creepy smile Five pulls in an attempt to look innocent doesn’t make Agnes scream in terror. Seriously Aidan Gallagher, what the fuck was that that was absoulutely terrifying. +1
+1
Five attempts to relate to a man that looks the age that he should be, but it ends up exceedingly awkward because Five looks 13. +1
The tow truck driver helps him out, but how was Five going to pay for his coffee? We don’t see him with money. Was he just going to jump out to the car? +1
Five never gets his cup of coffee :( +1
“Istanbul was Constantinople/ Now it’s Istanbul not Constantinople”. This whole scene is great. Five plays with them like he did in the bank scene which shows that even if he did age, he didn’t do it around people so he doesn’t have maturity. -1
Five stabs a guy with a mop and kills him. -1
Five stabs a guy in the crotch with a pencil, then uses the same pencil to stab him in the eye. In between he throws a plate at another guy. This is badass. -1
Five jumps in a way that actually does make two of the idiots shoot each other. Which means that technically, Patch was right. -1
Five kills a man with his bare hands. -1
But he stops to put his fucking tie back on. +1
And yet after all that, the goriest thing is when Five pulls the tracker out of his arm.  Props to the makeup department  and Aidan Gallagher’s acting skill for making that look so real. -1
Five should be way sweatier when he walks out of Griddys. Unless he moped that up with some napkins? What are these super absorbent napkins and where can I buy them? +1
Agnes should be far more traumatized. And definitely shouldn’t have survived that. +1
Diego is emo with the monocle. +1
Luther flashback narration. +1
Klaus, thankfully interrupts this. -1
“Number 6 “Ben” (deceased)” -1
We can see Ben depending on if it’s Klaus or Diego talking. -1
The vigilante mask Diego wears +1
Five jumpscare in Vanya’s apartment. +1
“Rapists can climb” yes Five. Continue with the criminals that can climb. Including you. +1
This whole scene is the best ending to an episode in the entire season. -1
Aidan Gallagher and Ellen Page play off each other with subtle expressions. This acting talent is amazing. -2
“The world ends in eight days and I have no idea how to stop it” “I’ll put on a pot of coffee” roll credits. I love this ending for many reasons. It’s a total mic drop moment. -2
Overall review:
While actively looking for nitpicky things, I got to see the first in a whole new light. Both the great parts and terrible parts stood out in a way that they didn’t when I wasn’t looking for them. Robert Sheehan, Aidan Gallagher, and Ellen Page were the stand out actors in this episode. All three contributed something significant that didn’t heavily rely on the script writers.
The child cast also really stood out to me. All seven of them had very limited screen time (I am counting Gallagher playing a child version of his character in this assessment) and they absolutely made the best of it. Out of all of them, Ethan Hwang stood out to me because of his overall great delivery. I hope that we see him play Ben in a more in-depth way in season 2.
Don’t get it twisted, I genuinely like this series and I think that it tells a great story. I just think it’s fun to nitpick and look deeper. After over analyzing everything else, it’s time to get back to basics. Especially because the season 2 trailer could drop any day now.
Total: 82 sins
Sentence: Tennis with Hitler and Sir Reginald.
on 2x05
so, now that the show has officially Gone There as of 3x05, have some completely self-indulgent, overlong and over-analytical lenny/midge character meta on the sequence from “midnight at the concord”. meta-ing back and forth with @isoldewass was making me go insane and i… had a lot of thoughts.
keeping in mind of course that this whole sequence occurs over the course of several minutes, the conversation moves along quickly, and I doubt anybody is 100% consciously thinking through the things they are saying or doing, which is why I find a lot of it to be so telling.
Tumblr media
Midge’s first thought of something fun to do – go see Lenny’s act. I don’t know that it occurs to her that there would be anything odd about this suggestion, she just thinks, lenny is really funny, i want benjamin to have fun. but also, i want benjamin to like lenny. and also… i’m gonna go there… she just wants to see lenny and is not thinking about the fact that a date might not be the ideal time for that. we all know that she’s an impulsive person and often does not think things through so this would be totally in character for her to do.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
At various points throughout the evening she keeps, almost compulsively, checking benjamin’s reactions to lenny. It’s like watching your favorite tv show with a friend and you keep waiting for them to have the same joy in engaging with it that you do; you want them to connect with something that you love because it’s like they are connecting with you. She really wants benjamin to like lenny. Case in point:
Tumblr media
Benjamin doesn’t immediately understand what this means or that he’s supposed to have this special reaction to Lenny.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This is a normal human reaction from a guy on a date. He is approving her choice of fun for the evening. But clearly midge is not on the same page here, because she’s looking for a reaction that he did not have, despite his finding lenny’s act to have been funny.
Tumblr media
Lenny is not funny, is the implication, lenny is brilliant. Lenny is an icon. He is not just funny, he’s brave. Not just a good comic, but a great comic, and not just that, but a great man. It is self-evident to midge that everybody should recognize how amazing he is. Benjamin seems to pick up on this, although he clearly is following her lead rather than himself having the effusive, admiring reaction that she has.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Like an, “oh, cool. I respect that,” type of reaction. But i notice that it’s more of a general statement than his own thoughts on the act or anything about lenny personally; it’s almost like he’s changing the subject. He is a good conversationalist and he’s agreeing with midge, showing the approval that she’s looking for, but i think he’s picking up at this point on the intensity of her reaction to lenny and is sort of quietly processing that/filing it away for a second.
Tumblr media
Midge follows him away from the topic and turns it into flirting, and then Benjamin gets up to check in with the hospital and her attention immediately turns back to lenny.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Instead of getting up and saying hi to her friend… she throws an olive at his head and then looks away and pretends it wasn’t her. Typical midge trying to be funny, but also weirdly childish in a way that transparently reads as flirting.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Lenny does not know quite how to process this interaction, i don’t think, although he’s happy to see her. He notices that throwing the olive at his head was a bit of a weird thing to do, i think he starts to register somewhere in his brain that she’s flirting with him, but he is not going to push her on it or bring it up because that’s not where their relationship is at the moment. If it took place after 3x05, this scene would not have gone the same way.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Another reference to the fact that Midge just sort of showed up on the spur of the moment. It was an impulsive decision that she did not think through. But immediately afterward she brushes off the comment with a joke and they quickly fall into their usual banter.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Notice how lenny moves his hand to his mouth here. In basic body language, a hand near or over the mouth tends to suggest that the person is trying to hide their true thoughts or feelings in some way. Not that Lenny is trying to deceive or lie to midge – but there is still a little bit of this sense that he is wearing a disguise in some way, that the way he’s reacting to her is somehow play-acted or inhibited. He is genuine about being glad to see her, but he is also thinking or feeling something else beyond that that he does not want to be open about.
I think this is around the point where he notices the second glass at the table, but he does not immediately bring it up. they proceed to have some friendly small talk, and then:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
he asks if it’s a date in a teasing way, but the fact that he keeps leaning closer to her suggests that he is genuinely interested in the answer to his question and that he wants to be closer to her himself. It’s also worth noting that Midge at first denies that it’s definitely a date, even though she later admits that it is.
Tumblr media
Said like date has a capital D. Immediately he is assigning extra significance and importance to this person… an over-the-top reaction for comedic effect, but also a joke that effectively masks the idea that he would have any sort of problem with midge being on a date. I think part of it also is that he keeps doing this out of a desire to hear midge deny that significance, which she also keeps doing. But he makes a big show of not believing her when she does.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Immediately, again, assigning more importance to the date than anything she has said would suggest. But framed in a very congratulatory way that is meant to make her feel flattered.
Tumblr media
– maybe imagining in the back of his mind (correctly, as it turns out) that he himself would be received by her parents in the exact opposite way. He is successful in his field, but he is 1) a comedian, 2) a controversial comedian, 3) does not have an upper class background. Not to mention that he is constantly in and out of jail, has money problems because of his court fees, and is recently divorced.
Tumblr media
Midge quickly denies that she has “bagged” benjamin, which is undercut by the fact that by the end of the season they are planning to marry each other. In fact, she does see benjamin as a serious love interest and she does feel he is interested in her, but she is downplaying this fact to lenny for the second time… why, exactly?
I doubt she herself actually knows why at this point, but we can guess.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Lenny pulls in the question, again i think to gauge the seriousness of the relationship, of whether benjamin is aware of midge’s standup career. He also frames it as this exaggeratedly taboo thing that they are both doing, which subtly emphasizes the connection between midge and himself and the idea of benjamin as an outsider who has to be let in on a secret.
Tumblr media
She repeats this as if the fact that they’ve only had one date really means anything… this time it reads differently, more as a defense for her not having told benjamin anything than a downplaying of their relationship.
I think she is a little needled by lenny bringing this up because it lightly implies that she doesn’t trust benjamin or that he doesn’t understand her, which is why directly after this sequence she immediately takes benjamin to the stage deli and tells him about her standup.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Here is where we see some of Lenny’s genuine reaction. This is his advice to her as a friend, which he frames in very neutral terms, as a question. It’s not something personal that he feels, it’s just a question for her to think about, of whether she really believes that this relationship can ultimately work or not. It doesn’t matter that he doesn’t know benjamin and that “jell-o molds”, the upscale housewife who does normal housewife things, is not necessarily what benjamin seems to want. Lenny is questioning the suitability of midge being with anybody who is not like her and does not live the lifestyle that she does, but he is doing it in the gentlest possible way and i think he is sincerely saying this out of concern and friendship for her.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Case in point – when she brushes his serious question off with another joke, he immediately backs off and starts praising benjamin again. This is not about, not about what he thinks or how he feels. While praising benjamin, though, he also ribs on him a bit by framing him as someone conventional and boring.
Every comment he makes feels layered at this point, but he is clearly trying to be supportive of midge and to not display his sincere reaction – which is disappointment. Every congratulatory comment he has shot out has been joking and exaggerated. He cannot sit there and calmly, gently, sincerely tell her congratulations or that he’s happy for her… he is not happy, and he is trying to ignore it and cover it up with humor, which is very in character for him to do.
Tumblr media
Benjamin appears and Lenny immediately does the same thing. hello, Doctor. Emphasizing Benjamin’s significance and station in a way that feels almost part self-deprecating, part mocking, and part (again) congratulatory of midge… but also making known to benjamin the fact that midge told lenny who he is in the two minutes he was on the phone. we are friends, we talk to each other, and who are you?
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Benjamin, very normal and polite. Lenny turns it into a joke… but not just a joke, an in-joke that’s sort of at benjamin’s expense. “That was no act,” and then he looks at Midge for her reaction because they know something that benjamin does not. He’s not trying to be cruel, but he is clearly focused on communicating with midge here and not benjamin, and he does not really care that benjamin might feel left out. He only cares about midge, watching her face, watching her reaction, wanting to see her understand and remember what he said earlier about jell-o molds. But in a very gentle, subtle way, with a seemingly meaningless comment and a glance.
Tumblr media
He does not have to be going anywhere. i just wanted to mention that. Like it’s a stock polite thing to do to exit with an excuse when two people are together and you don’t want to intrude. But it’s more evidence to me that lenny is wearing a mask right now. While his support and care for midge and his enjoyment of her company are genuine, very little else about any of his behavior here has said anything about what he’s thinking or how he’s feeling. Note also, now that we’re reaching the end of the interaction, that he kept turning the conversation back to midge and basically never expressed anything outright, instead couching everything in jokes so it’s difficult to tell how serious he is.
Tumblr media
Still polite and friendly as he is exiting – but benjamin’s expression (though also polite) does not look terribly genuine or charmed and i think he knows that there was something weird about the way lenny reacted to him. It was performed, it was exaggerated, and there was a vibe of something else. lenny being polite at this point doesn’t really do anything for that.
Tumblr media
He pays for their table. Another gesture of politeness, being hospitable and approving to benjamin for the sake of midge, but also – This is my place, i am known here, Midge is my friend, I am paying for your drinks. Regardless of the fact that he knows benjamin is a doctor and is not going to be short on cash, whereas lenny has been shown in the past to have money problems.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Buy her a soda and have her home by 10. This is funny, and he never stops joking throughout this whole thing which is how he’s able to get away with doing and saying all this, but once again he’s emphasizing his position in Midge’s life… they mysteriously know each other and are close enough for him to casually joke about how benjamin should comport himself on their date as if he were a family member. Benjamin laughs, but it seems a little obligatory and a little forced. What exactly is going on here with this guy. Why is he acting this way. I don’t know that benjamin himself actually feels threatened by lenny, particularly because lenny is joking and not making a thing of it and is making a point of like, “allowing” benjamin to go out with midge (with the dad joke), like, I am not a threat to you while also saying I know her better than you do and you’re not going to find out how.
Thinking about this bit I just find it so interesting that Lenny, like… vanishes into his jokes. To certain people, he erases himself until all that’s left is jokes and the reaction of laughter, however forced or genuine. It kind of reminds me of the way my grandfather used to act… he was a very intelligent man but around strangers he would like, obfuscate how smart he was, he would heavily exaggerate his southern accent, conceal his intelligence and talk like he was some kind of dumb rube. A way of self-defense and hiding from people, sort of a, you’re not allowed to know me. And Lenny even does this to Midge to a certain extent this time around, because he is so focused on not making it about himself, but about her and how she feels and what she is doing.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
And the final piece, which is that after he has broken eye contact with benjamin and begun leaving, he turns around to make a joke to midge. He is gorgeous! It’s about benjamin, about him approving of benjamin, but it is not for benjamin. It’s because all he wants is to make midge laugh and get a smile and absolutely not let her think that he has any issues with this, no sir, not at all. This feels almost like a 180 from the very weird, outwardly-polite-maybe-semi-hostile-but-just-joking way he was treating benjamin a second ago… because it is. It’s not about benjamin, it’s about midge.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I love watching him just enjoy her reaction, her absolutely charmed and beautiful smile, for a second before he turns around and leaves. The special, almost magical power of being able, at any time, to evoke a laugh from someone that you like and watch them smile at you. Benjamin is witty, but he does not have that power.
And then right away, Benjamin, who has just stood there through this very odd 30-second interaction, and just wants to make sure, says:
Tumblr media
And I think it’s really important to note the context in which Benjamin is asking this. Several people by now have suggested the possibility of something between Midge and Lenny, but they have all said so in the context of her as a comedienne and the (sexist) idea that midge and lenny have to be in some kind of sexual relationship, and not just friends, for him to be willing to do such a favor for her. But Benjamin is not implying that. He has no idea about her standup career yet. He clearly is also not the type to believe that men and women can’t be platonic friends, because when midge says nothing has happened he believes her. All he knows is that midge took him to see some guy’s standup… and afterward the guy was kind of weird to him in a way that seemed like there might be something going on.
come be a season 12 truther, baby, with me
In honor of tonight’s Berens/Glynn episode (!!!!), I’d like to take y’all on a magical journey in which I share why I think Dean and Cas got together in season 12.
Keep in mind that this post takes for granted that Dean and Cas are in love with each other and that their relationship has been increasingly coded as romantic with each passing season. Consequently, what this post does is point out some key moments in their relationship and argue why they don't get together before 12. I'll also go briefly over 13 and 14 for reasons I'll explain later in the post. First, though, let me go over seasons 4 through 11, with some pit stops along the way:
Seasons 4 & 5: this isn’t the destiel you are looking for. the ust is delicious, yes, and i, too, got sucked in posthaste immediately groped by an angel lj community style. At this point Cas is still too alien for anything beyond the development we see on screen happen. HOWEVER, season 5 is the first time we get to see Cas being human (The End) and Cas being less connected to heaven and how that affects his behavior. This will matter.
Seasons 6 & 7: the pining omg the pining. The notable things I want to point out with these seasons is a. this is the beginning of Cas doing things to spare Dean and it not ending well (Cas dies #1, soulless!Sam); b. Dean is v. sad; and c. we also start noticing the emotional toll of Cas’s divided loyalties and how human he has actually become since s4. Hurty feels all around.
Season 8: purgaytory babes aw yeah! Still lots of terrible awful pining. This is a turning point with the addition of the bunker as tfw hq: we have a home in play now, a static emotional center. Cas is still off doing his own thing, Dean still wishes Cas would just let him (+ Sam) help out. Cas going off on his own leads to disaster #2 (Angels fall, Cas loses his Grace). For all deliciously angsty get together purgatory fics and spec, there’s too much of a gap between Dean and Cas on Cas’s part due to his guilt over betraying the Winchesters in s6 & slaughtering angels & leviathan. On the other hand, we do see Dean being more emotionally open, but to no avail. Bad timing. This is a trend. [oop also worth noting we get Dean being kinda done with the one night stand thing because always with the adios and ahem also hint hint Cas refusing to stay put]
Seasons 9 & 10: aka Dean and Cas make bad decisions, but mostly Dean. The biggest turning point here is Cas being human for an extended period of time. There is still plenty of spec over the effects of being human on Cas’s Grace and his Soul. What we can say for sure, though, is that Cas is much more human once he becomes an angel again. In contrast to s8, s9 sees Cas being vulnerable and Dean pushing him away (first because of Gadreel, which he didn’t want to do really and that’s even sadder kdjfgksdfj & later because he was pushing everyone away due to the mark).
9.06 Heaven Can’t Wait: there’s been so much amazing fic and spec about this episode with its fanfiction gap, but I can’t see a deancas get together here, folks. I know, it’s terrible. The lying from Dean and the hurt from Cas, imo, make the distance between them quite insurmountable at this point. While the episode is amazing (Bobo’s debut, too! So ♥) and has some notorious subtext throughout, I just can’t see the character bridging that gap into anything physical, much less emotional. Nevertheless, this episode does show perhaps the first intentional romantic tableaux with Dean and Cas, and that’s not nothing.
10.16 Paint it Black: from the point Dean gets the mark of cain until the end of season 10, anything between him and Cas is quite impossible. But one of the reasons I’m bringing up this episode in particular is because of the confession scene. For one, it’s a rare bit of emotional honesty from Dean and for two, it tells me that while he and Cas may be well aware of the thing between them, it’s still uncharted waters. Makes sense, too, there’s been A LOT going on since s6.  Anyway, he’s the full confession, so we can put a pin on it:
You know, the life I live, the work I do…I pretty much just figured that that was all there was to me, you know? Tear around and jam the key in the ignition and haul ass until I ran out of gas. I guess I just thought sooner or later, I’d go out the same way that I live – pedal to the metal, and that would be it. [...]  Now, um… recent events, uh… make me think I might be closer to that than I really thought. And…I don’t know. I mean, you know, there’s – there’s things, there’s…people, feelings that I-I-I want to experience differently than I have before, or maybe even for the first time. [...]  Yeah, I’m just starting to think that… maybe there’s more to it all than I thought.
Do you ever see a character having an epiphany and find yourself wanting to cry because this is it right here. Dean is just blatantly admitting he wants more, which all culminates in season 11, so...
Season 11: The pining is still here, but it’s worse now since it’s the whole plot? It’s been *checks calendar* 5 years of this. How are any of us still kicking I don’t know. Your slow burns could never. Cool worth noting points: Cas says yes to Luci (bad decision #2.5, lots of mitigating effects_I don’t actually hold it against him that much but Dean is another story & not entirely rational at this point); for the first time since the early days, Dean and Cas are on equal grounds: they’ve both fucked up a lot and have hurt each other. The issues this season are outside their dynamic. Amara and Lucifer here serve as externalizing forces for Dean and Cas’s problems and by the end of the season we’re getting a clean slate. We’re also getting a new showrunner, so. No wonder. What this season does that is also super important is that it sets up the stage for the possibility of an actual relationship between Dean and Cas, something that has, up until this point, been pretty much impossible.
11.04 Baby: Y’all know what I’m about to quote here, right? The convo between Dean and Sam about having something with someone who understands the life. Here we still have Dean reverting to the idea that it’s impossible, which is a direct contrast to the openness in 10.16. It’s understandable, though, considering there’s been little reason to think anything like that would be possible (see all the mess and poor timing from seasons past). The quote in question, though, marks a continuing development in on of the things Dean is struggling with this season:
DEAN: Piper? That's awesome. Heather. One-night wonders, man. Shoot, we're lucky we still get that at all.  SAM: Really? You don't . . . Ever want something more? DEAN: I'm sorry, have you met us? We're batting a whopping zero in domestic life, man. Goose eggs. SAM: You don't ever think about something? Not marriage or whatever. But . . . Something? You know, with a hunter? Somebody who understands the life?
Compare this exchange with what we get from 11.11 and 11.19:
11.11 Into the Mystic: I’m bringing this episode as a crossreference to 10.16 and to show again that for all the closeness between Dean and Cas there’s still a marked distance they haven’t yet bridged. Thanks Mildred for the delicious exposition:
Darlin'...If there's one thing I've learned in all my years on the road, it's when somebody's pining for somebody else. [...]  Oh, don't try and hide it now. Follow your heart. Remember?
11.19 The Chitters: Continuing our trek regarding Dean wanting certain things we have this gift of an episode with Jesse and Cesar, and this exchange:
Dean: [with realization] Oh, so … [points back and forth to Jesse and Cesar] Cesar: Yeah. Dean: Okay, that’s… Cesar puts his beer bottle on the table and looks at Dean, while Jesse is being silent. Dean: What’s it like, settling down with a hunter? Cesar: Smelly, dirty. [turns to Jesse] Twice the worrying about getting ganked.
I’d like to point out, too that the fear of getting ganked is thematic when it comes to the tension between Dean and Cas. More on this when we hit s13.
Alright, now having said that, let’s take a look at season 12. Bear in mind, this is the official start of Dabb’s era, even if he kinda began taking over in 11, and the change in vibes is obvious. In fact, 12 jumped out at me as a turning point in retrospect, after getting smacked by the domesticity of 13 and 14. Under the cut because I can’t shut up, and things are long enough as is.
Season 12:  Finally, the promise land, y’all. So, what s11 was for Dean in terms of setting up the relationship stage, s12 was for Cas. In its initial beats, any way. Important to keep in mind that until the Kelly debacle, this was the longest Cas has been around the bunker. Things seem remarkably chill. Of course, we’ll notice that there’s still a lot of baggage hanging around because despite Dean and Cas being in a more stable place, they haven’t actually dealt with their interpersonal problems. I didn’t single out directly this episode, but do keep in mind Cas’s declaration in 12.09 First Blood as far as how much the Winchesters matter to Cas & how we also see Dean and Cas be particularly singled out with them seating together in the backseat of the Impala.
12.10 Lily Sunder Has Some Regrets: This episode, oh my god, the goodness. In the wake of 12.09 we have Dean and Cas in a tiff because Cas mistake #3 (killing Billie and “cosmic consequences”), this is a pattern. Twice the worry of getting ganked, etc etc. But where this episode really shines is through the contrast between Ishim’s obsession with Lily and Cas & Dean’s mutual affection for each other. Ishim sees no difference here and, to him, Cas’s feelings for Dean are a human weakness. Returning to my point about human!Cas, this episode underscores that Cas’s increasing humanity is what puts him in the place where he can want what Dean wants instead of either being too alien to get it (see s4 & 5) or unable to experience it properly (Ishim).
12.12 Stuck in the Middle (With You): Cas’s trajectory culminates here with the whole I love you (@ Dean), I love all of you (@ Winchesters). Let’s note too that Cas is dying here, in a way that is much more human than going up in light. This declaration of different types of love is entirely human. It’s also a definitive step wrt to Cas and Dean’s relationship because of what happens in 12.19. This. is. it.
Offscreen happenings: Mixtape, how Cas knows the Colt is under Dean’s pillow. This is hella suspicious.
12.19 The Future: This episode changes everything, y’all (bobo and meredith, folks, bobo and meredith ksjdhfakjshlfksd). Consider watching this episode again and pay attention to some weird things: 1. Dean’s reaction to Cas going awol. Compare it to Sam’s, who is like whoa Dean chill. Now, thought experiment, imagine something happened between Dean and Cas, and then just radio silence from Cas. Imagine how Dean would react with getting ghosted by Cas specifically after something happened between them.  2. Cas comes back to the bunker with the specific goal of stealing the Colt, which he already knew was under Dean’s pillow -- something Sam didn’t even know.  3. “He came into my room and he played me.” So, this quote right there, makes it seem like some seduction for personal gain, right? But Cas clearly knew where the Colt was already, which means something happened before  Cas came back to the bunker. Cas played Dean in seeming to have reconsidered not working with Sam and Dean wrt Kelly. This is still a point of drama, but it leads somewhere else (see s13 & s15). 4. WHEN DID DEAN GIVE CAS THAT MIXTAPE OMG 5. Dean and Cas’s brief convo in Dean’s room is clearly Dean just wanting Cas to stay, so they can work (and be) together -- because they’re better that way. Which, yeah, truth.
Sequence of events: Cas tells Dean he loves him -- Dean is clearly shook by it -- Dean gives Cas a mixtape (romantic gesture, often a declaration of feelings; in true Dean speak too lolsobs) -- Cas somehow knows the Colt is under Dean’s pillow -- ???? -- Cas goes awol -- Dean acts like he got ghosted by his partner.
Like. Y’all realize they probably had some emotionally constipated getting together moment, right? Something that Dean clearly initially thought meant things were gonna change, now. Something that Cas couldn’t allow to happen until he could give Dean a win. Y’all are seeing this, yeah? I’m not saying they slept together and were full of feelings, except that’s kind of what I’m saying. But ymmv, there are other possibilities beyond sex. The full of feelings isn’t up for debate, though, even if the whole thing is informed by ridiculous amounts of miscommunication.
Ok, maybe the narrative is still too subtle (?????), but as I said before, looking at 12 with the knowledge of 13 and 14 does offer a new perspective because of the difference in dynamic between Dean and Cas. I know lots of people look at 14, mainly, as having dialed back on the destiel side of things, but I always thought that was a strange take. Largely because they’re so domestic and their dynamic, ie, the lack of tension, reads like an established relationship. It’s a different kind of beast than we have been used to so far, so it does look alien on screen, especially since we “skipped” the conventional getting together cue that would let us change gears. Let’s take a look at 13 and 14, then.
Season 13: Ah, yes, the season of shit gets domestic. The pining? Gone? What? Deancas now reading like an established couple? It’s more likely than you think.
13.1-13.5: Dean’s grief mini-arc. Dude’s acting like a widower. We all know this. I want to gesture towards the reunion moment though with “it’s never too late to start all over again.” To. Start. All. Over. Again. I’m just saying.
13.6 Tombstone: hi this episode is pure love and Dean is so happy his sweetheart is back from the dead? He’s even ok being Jack’s third dad now? What a time to be alive. Also? apparently Dean and Cas were just having movie night together? Dates? Mutual Pining dates prior to shit going to hell in 12? Do you ever cry? What else are they getting up to offscreen? What else will they get up to off screen? MUCH TO THINK ABOUT.
Season 14: MORE DOMESTICITY. With some pining because Michael. But...heart eyes when Dean comes back? Watch that scene again with Dean going off to shower. Suspicious. But then shit hits the fan and we’re all sad again. boo.
14.15 Peace of Mind: Look me in the eye and tell me Dean and Cas talking in the kitchen about Jack doesn’t read like husbands talking about their child. Look me in the eye and tell me Cas just texting Dean to gossip about Sam isn’t coupley asf.
14.18-14.20: Ah, yes, the divorce arc. Awful. Terrible. The culmination of Dean’s problem in all this: he lashes out, he pushes Cas away, his anger is alienating. Cue all of us suffering. But while Dean is clearly in the wrong in how the deals with his feelings, let’s not pretend some of his anger doesn’t come from a long established issue between him and Cas, which had its last traumatic turn when Cas died in s12. Dean isn’t being rational here; he saw Cas doing something on his own, and he saw that his mother is dead. What else could happen? Why won’t Cas just trust they can work as a team? Divorce arc was entirely too literal.
But what about what we’re building up in 15? That seems like it could be a getting together plot, too, right? Well, yeah. It could very well be. But I’d argue the tension we’re seeing isn’t a will they or won’t they because they already have. The tension is instead will they or won’t they use their words to talk about the baggage that has kept them from truly being confident about their relationship. There’s a crucial step in their togetherness that they’re still missing, which is also the bedrock of the divorce arc that spanned TWELVE FRIGGIN’ EPISODES. Y’all. Y’all that’s half a season. And we’re not even entirely done with it yet because Dean was cut short in purgatory, and they haven’t dealt with Cas’s side of blame in this mess yet either -- that Cas keeps going off on his own and getting hurt (and getting other people hurt), and Dean has to deal with the fallout. The deep emotional understanding, the truly being on the same page is what we’re on the edge of our seats for. And, you know, that’s a whole lot more exciting than witnessing their for realsies first kiss. I’m also confident Dabb & co will deliver the conclusion to this emotional arc and it will be a whole mess of feelings on all our parts.
For the moment, though, it’s looking a lot like Dean and Cas had a rocky start to their ~involvement, then DEATH, then they got together feat. sweet sweet domestic fluff, then DIVORCE. So, yeah. Season 12, guys; it’s where it’s at.
As for the more performative aspect of Dean and Cas’s relationship…that’s a whole other thing and all I can say is they got the green light for something, but I don’t know what it is and it’s driving me bananas, but it’s definitely something and we can talk about that, too. Place your bets, etc.  I’m clowning on the “I love you” pay off because it’s a glaring missing piece in this whole story. See also: holding hands? Carving Cas’s initials on the table? Saileen endgame parallels? All supported by the narrative. Like a lot. So. *finger guns*
Batwoman Episode Three Talk *Spoilers*
Are we not doing the normal Arrowverse monologue? I miss it. The diary narration is cool but... I miss the opening monologue.
Nightmare flashbacks, I wonder who the fuck Beth was living with? Who turned her into Alice? Did Alice live with a serial killer?
Who the fuck is running Wayne Enterprises besides Luke & Kate??
Hand puppets to get Batwoman's attention, childish.
Alice is blunt as fuck, Horny for Batman, did she take notes from Bo from Lost Girl.
Why does Alice have a boyfriend in the first place?
Negotiations? Innocent peoples lives for a boyfriend? Sounds weird but nice try.
Is Kate the Younger Twin?
Does Beth have split personality? Alice is the girl she became to protect herself from her hellish post-accident life but Beth is buried somewhere inside her mind??
Fucking commercials always indicate someone dying. Poor fellow.
Elliot Estates? Dumb name.
Training with your husband while thinking of your ex-girlfriend you never told him about?  Go. To. Therapy. Sophie boxing? With her husband? I guess that's healthy? I mean, if they were working on their own personal issues instead of Sophie's issues with Kate... maybe.
Commander must adore Soph to be that much of a considerate shade of Asshole. Also because Soph is too blunt for them to not be close in some way.
Why is Soph wanting to protect Mary? Its not going to get her closer to Kate.
Vesper, you beautifully voices woman!
Mary is a sweetheart, and decent at acting drunk/hungover to safe face for her clinic.
Mary is so fucking sassy to her sister's ex-girlfriend.
Why blame Commander Kane for your idea Soph?!
Kate getting defensive over the desk, aww.
Tommy Elliot is already a cunt before he showed up at that desk.
'Candy Kane' would be a cute nickname, if this guy didn't immediately give me a bad feeling.
Fuck Tommy for bringing that shit up to Kate like it doesn't already fuck her up. How the fuck does Tommy Elliot know Bruce is Batman?
Tommy Elliot wants to prove he's the most damaged, bigger ego-ed, richer, jerkwad of Gotham. And instead he goes psycho. Kate was right, Bruce's is bigger - He didn't go psycho. Even though, that comment was inappropriate but also forgivable given how she was attacking his ego not the physical aspects of Tommy vs Bruce. Metaphorical not realistical.
Wayne Tech, how the fuck is it still up and running?
I like how they reference weapons and explain them in a slightly normal way before Kate uses them later.
Pretty sure the dummy and faux blood and spray paint was Tommy Elliot, not anyone else.
Is there a Tommy Elliot Comic Counterpart that becomes a villain?
Vesper sassing Batman is fucking hilarious.
Mary checking out that guy and Soph interrupting it, cockblock.
Soph grilling Mary for information about Kate is fucked
Luke yelling while wearing the noise cancelling headset is cliche but funny. I wonder if they had to have Ruby say screaming because her accent came out too much when she said Yelling.
A gun that can penetrate the Batsuit? Why in the fuck would that exist without a fail safe?
Kate feeling the sting of being hit with a bullet while not actually being in the suit, she's already formed a relationship with the suit even though she refused to take up the mantle.
Kate sassily decides to go ask Tommy about knowing about Bruce and Batman only to be shocked about Luke telling her to put on the suit.
I still wanna know how Alice broke into the Kane house.
She messily puts in the lipstick, finds the perfume gross smelling, wears a crow uniform, Licks a cupcake and puts it back, downs a martini, reads the invite, smashes the family picture, kills a crow that knows her name with no hesitation but mocks Kate's disappointment. All of these acts seem to mean something to her, and I wonder what that is.
I still wanna know how Alice broke into the Kane house.
Why is Alice dicking around in a crows house??
Why did Alice kill him? and How did he know her name??
She messily puts in the lipstick, finds the perfume gross smelling, wears a crow uniform, Licks a cupcake and puts it back, downs a martini, reads the invite, smashes the family picture, kills a crow that knows her name with no hesitation but mocks Kate's disappointment. All of these acts seem to mean something to her, and I wonder what that is.
Kate looks hot as fuck - Hair a little less upwards, one singular dangle earring, p/leather leggings or jeggings, black over-sized suit jacket, a lacy shirt, heeled boots (that i'm pretty sure are from Hot topic? with the metal backing on the heels), Minimal dark make up, one singular shiny bracelet/watch, and her tattoos peaking out. Why did Sophie marry a man again?
The fucking shock, confusion, and pure "what the fuck" that crossed Kate's mind when she stepped into the elevator lmfao. Great acting on Ruby's part.
Mary's facial expression then Kate's "I’m sorry" makes me aww. Did anyone else think the conversation about "Go radio silent on socials" was actually code about the Clinic in a way?
Awkward fucking elevator ride, Love the broke tension Mary.
The blond is pretty. I think I have a similar, longer version of her dress. I'd definitely let Ruby Rose check me out like Kate did Reagan.
Tyler you poor unsuspecting fool.
I'd love it if Reagan is telepathic, like a meta human, and that's how she knew that stuff. Bartenders can be good but, she was a little too spot on with Kate.
I love how Kate was impressed by Reagan pouring herself a shot, like she didn't expect it.
Tyler and Kate talking makes me feel... sad for Tyler. Soph never told her husband she secretly fucked Kate Kane at the academy.
Reagan is hot, and if Kate doesn't fuck around with her - I will.
Daddy Kane and Kate Kane have similar taste in people, they both hate Tommy.
I love how Kate brings up twin intuition even though she made a deal, and her father walked a way uncomfortable because he can't bear the idea of Alice being Beth.
Kate setting her sights on Tommy, she looked hot albeit out of place.
Mary trying to convince her mom to let her have more elbow room, just so she can sneak out to her clinic.
Tommy is a fucking dickbag "took five years but I'm finally looking down on Bruce Wayne", You are competing with someone who you already won against - you have your parents, family, the weight taken off your shoulders, a fuck ton of money, and could have any girl you want. Fuck the fuck off.
Kate's "Here I thought I was his favorite cousin, not even a phone call" was so well said as to point out she knows Bruce better than Tommy thinks he does. It was subtle, sarcastic, but right on the money.
Nice lie Kate, make him find the gun even though your bullshitting. Nice, very 'Oliver Queen' of you. I'm proud, sure he would be too.
Fucking Bach. Can people pick another one of his songs, its the same fucking one in ever fucking movie and show. Pick something different, or fuck just pick a different artist all together.
Alice tormenting Commander with the instrument, the song, and just toying with the idea that she might really be his daughter makes me laugh for some reason, its oddly well thought out. She will get in his head though, eventually.
Alice bearing the disappointment and heartbreak Beth felt being left behind... heart shattering.
King of the Crows... he should become scarecrow... maybe.
Alice just casually waltzed away from the window, sifted through the box, and the likely promptly ditched the fuck outta there.
That box is all of Beth's life, and Alice still feels the pain of it.
Maybe Alice is to Beth what Frost is to Caitlin? At least she saw the search Map.
Aww poor Mary basically getting dragged away  by her guards.
Kate... you smart girl, following him right to the gun. That conversation about Tommy being less than. Tommy is psychotic in every aspect.
Tommy talked to the fucking Riddler?! The Riddler knows Bruce's identity? [If they follow the Gotham story line that kinda makes sense]
Tommy hates his mom that much? The fuck
Kate didn't expect him to have a contingency plan to draw Batman out... not smart sweets.
Kate immediately going to help the victims is why she's a good hero.
I wonder how many people actually did in that fall, we only saw a handful still moving during Kate and Mary's scenes with them.
Kate's concern for people is what makes her a hero, she even apologizes to the man she pulls attention too. Her obsession with Alice/Beth, her dedication to Bruce, her hatred towards Batman then forgiveness towards him, her affection of Sophie, all of that doesn't matter. Her heart does.
Tyler had the worst fucking timing, you are stuck in an elevator, have this martial spat in private in your home. Shut the fuck up.
Step Mom Kane doesn't seem as maternal as she acts, she also seems to be rooting for someone's death... get a divorce.
Mary and Soph would be cute friendship - if Soph wasn't in a triangle.
Luke and Kate having a heart to heart with honesty towards Bruce ever coming back.
Mary saves a life like a bawse!!
Where did they get the spray paint from? Did Luke spray it or did Kate? Where did they get a wig? Did they go shopping while this time limit is happening.
Dicking with Tommy by 'flying' around him, how "Flash/Firestorm vs Tokamak" of you. I fucking 🎶Love🎶 it.
Did she seriously Now get a voice changer? Her voice seems edited whereas with Dodgson it wasn't.
[[I keep getting Ads for The Tomorrow People, should I watch it? Is it any good??]]
Batman's side piece? Gross.
She forgot to charge the glove... cute. She's still learning.
She just stabbed him in the leg... I think they cut Luke's question of "What are you doing?" because her "Stalling" sounded like an answer not a confirmation.
She saves her Dad and Stepmom, without knowing whose in the elevator, but lets the other elevator drop... she didn't know it was empty??
She forgot to charge the glove?! LMFAO I'd do that!
Kick his ass Kate!!!!!
She saves her dad, but let the other elevator drop not knowing if there were other people in it???
He's so psychotic that he literally steps on her hand.
Alice to the rescue!!!
"and im the crazy one" I love that. She's literally insane yet the red wig is the drawn line lmfao.
Alice saving Kate makes me happy.
She took off the cowl yet has almost perfect hair... woman. really mess up you hair!! You'd probs looks hot as fuck.
Kate's appreciation of Alice saving her life only for Alice to crash the moment. Kate wants her to leave to keep her safe yet Alice is annoyed.
The red being the color of the birthstone is a nice poetic touch.
Alice ruined the moment again, jerk.
Alice touching Kate's face is probably because she hasn't seen her in so fucking long its a wonderment for her to feel her sister again when their Twins and have been connected their whole lives.
The laugh about the wig having roots, nice joke Alice.
Kate trying to talk Alice back into Beth.
So Alice wants Kate to stop thinking of her as Beth? But she was willing to prove she is actually Beth by cutting her palm? Alice really does seem like Season Four Killer Frost "Beth is gone"/"I'm not Caitlin"
Sending Tommy to Arkaham... Smart.
Reagan is cute, I love how she was worried for Kate whom she just met and Kate checked in on her. I love the bluntness between the two!! Please tell me she isn't a bad guy!
Is Soph really jealous?? She's fucking married?! Soph, don't be jealous, your married. Mary slap her for us.
Two of Hearts, Eight of Cloves, and Three of Diamonds?? What does Alice, Catherine, and those numbers/cards have in common?
Commander Kane is finally starting to believe!!! Yes! Catherine, you do not live up to the legacy of your name you dick.
Batlady? Batchick? Really?! Did Sophie call that name in? otherwise it won't stick...
I hope Soph phoned in that name, otherwise we'll end up with something stupid.
Sophie definitely knows that Kate is Batwoman.
When is the reference episode to the Arrowverse cross over going to happen? I need to know and understand the fucking timeline.
I kinda think that Alice is Beth's alter, like she had disassociative identity disorder and Alice is her protector. That's why Alice remembers being Beth but "Beth is gone" because Younger Beth is 'asleep' in their shared mind or too afraid to come out yet Alice is acting out with anger now because she had to go through the hell that she was made to protect Beth, Maybe as an alter she's resentful towards the host? Is that possible? Maybe she blames Beth but because she can't hurt her, she hurts her family via payback and revenge.
☆Side Note:: I watched this episode only twice instead of my normal three, I've been a bit busy -Which is also why this is a day later than it has been-, so excuse me if anything is wrong or they explained something in the episode☆
Book 5: The Stand
Bloggers note: if you’re looking for a complete plot summary and a list of all the characters in this epic tome, this is not the blog post for you. Proceed with caution.
Once upon a time, there was a precocious ten year-old, with divorced parents. One parent embraced her weirdness and didn’t pay attention to what books she was bringing home from the library; and the other parent was my dad... who constantly wondered (aloud) why I wasn’t like normal kids.
Being of slightly above-average intelligence, I saw this as an affront, and did subtle things just to piss him off. Subtle things “normal” children probs wouldn’t do. The summer I was ten, my dad had picked up a paperback copy of The Stand, and was raving to me about how good it was. I remember he was fixated on people falling dead in their bowls of Chunky soup.
“Sounds like a cool book, maybe I’ll read it,” I commented.
“This isn’t a book for children. You still haven’t read that copy of The Hobbit I gave you.”
Hold my beer, motherfucker. I’m here for it. And The Hobbit was boring af. I never got past all the singing.
Just to piss him off, I read the book cover to cover, faster than he did. You know, like normal vindictive ten year-old girls do. I don’t have a lot of memories of my dad growing up, but I hold onto this one fast and tight, because I got mine in the end. I was like the Trashcan Man of the fifth grade set. Just with a worse haircut. See below.
Tumblr media
Needless to say, my comprehension of The Stand almost thirty years later is a little bigger, wider, and deeper. It’s also colored by other epic “Good vs. Evil” reads (sigh, yes... even Tolkien); and King’s other works (mostly The Dark Tower). While at times this was not an easy book to read, I’m glad I powered through it. Ultimately, I feel rewarded I didn’t give up on page 872 like I had initially wanted to. I’m also glad I didn’t go with my gut instinct of reading the original released in in 1978, and then later on the uncut edition that was released in 1990. One reading of The Stand per year is more than enough, thank you. And besides, there’s fun pictures along the way! I mean, if I’m being honest, the book is mostly pictures with just a few words here and there to break it up. I’m absolutely kidding.
Tumblr media
Let’s get into it, shall we?
First of all, I picked the worst fucking time to read this book. Coronavirus is probably going to kill the whole world, and I refuse to be one of the survivors like in The Stand. There’s not enough bourbon in Kentucky for me to survive that shit show. Additionally, my family is huge into board games, and we thought Pandemic might be a fun cooperative game to try. Spoiler: it’s awesome, we’re all hooked on it. I highly recommend it for your next game night. Maybe an End of the World/Pandemic theme?? You can all wear gloves and masks, eat shelf stable foods and bottled water, and play REM on repeat. Sounds... awesome.
Tumblr media
But I digress. The Stand is your ultimate post-apocalyptic good versus evil showdown. A government employee with Captain Trips (the world ending virus) goes AWOL from his base, and takes a frantic road trip across the country with his family, where he manages to contaminate everyone he comes in contact with.
What is Captain Trips? Well, I’m so glad you asked! To hear a doctor explain it, “We’ve got a disease with several well-defined stages... but some people may skip a stage. Some people may backtrack a stage. Some people may do both. Some people stay in one stage for a relatively long time and others zoom though all four as if they were on a rocket-sled...”
The virus spreads (like viruses do), until there’s less than 15,000 people left in the country (rough estimate). The people still alive start having two types of dreams; either scary nightmares about The Walking Man, or peaceful dreams about Mother Abigail. Again... good versus evil. Guess who is who. If you need clarification, let me give you this one little quote about Randall Flagg, courtesy of Mother Abigail, “He’s the purest evil left in the world. The rest of the bad is a little evil. Shoplifters and sexfiends and people who like to use their fists. But he’ll call them. He’s started already. He’s getting them together a lot faster than we are. Before he’s ready to make his move, I guess he’ll have a lot more. Not just the evil ones that are like him, but the weak ones... the lonely ones... and the ones that have left God out of their hearts.”
And his followers?
“They were nice enough people and all, but there wasn’t much love in them. Because they were too busy being afraid. Love didn’t grow very well in a place where there was only fear, just as plants didn’t grow very well in a place where it was always dark.”
Yeah. I’m just going to leave that there for you to read and digest.
So, the remaining people from all over the country either ended up in Vegas with Flagg, or Boulder with Mother Abigail and The Free Zone; which is basically Bernie Sander’s Utopian dream.
God damn it! I swore I wasn’t going to get political and compare Donald Trump to Randall Fla-
Ok, so The Free Zone. Most of the people who come to Boulder, want to meet Mother Abigail Freemantle, the one hundred and eight year old black woman they’ve been dreaming about. She’s got a self-described case of the shine, and speaks stupid relevant truth to her followers, “I have harbored hate of the Lord in my heart. Every man or woman who loves Him, they hate Him too, because He’s a hard God, a jealous God, He Is, what He Is, and in this world He’s apt to repay service with pain while those who do evil ride over the roads in Cadillac cars. Even the joy of serving Him is a bitter joy. I do His will, but the human part o me has cursed Him in my heart.”
I’m not religious, but that hit hard. And it shows you the clear difference between Randall Flagg, and Mother Abigail.
Later on, Mother Abigail also hits us over the head, and explains to us why this book is titled, The Stand: “But he is in Las Vegas, and you must go there, and it is there that you will make your stand. You will go, and you will not falter, because you have the Everlasting Arm of the Lord God of Hosts to lean on. Yes. With God’s help you will stand.”
Spoiler: it doesn’t quite go according to her plan. Very few are left standing at the end.
 So, The Free Zone. People come together, dispose of dead bodies, get electricity turned back on again, clear the roads of abandoned cars, and form a de-facto government. While lots of characters come and go (die. They die.) throughout the book, there are a few mainstays in The Free Zone: Franny, Harold, Stu, Larry, Nick, Tom, Nadine, and Lucy. But again... good versus evil. While most of the residents of The Free Zone are good, Flagg is able to whisper in the ears of some members, mostly Harold and Nadine, who end up defecting and making the trip to Vegas.
While socialist utopia is succeeding in Boulder, Flagg is ruling with fear of crucifixion in Vegas. His henchmen include Lloyd, and The Trashcan Man. Oh, Trashy... maybe one of King’s most iconic characters. He’s a bit of a firebug (understatement of the century), and really goes out in a blaze of glory (ha. Pun intended).
In fact, the two heroes of this book are Trashcan Man, thanks to his epic nuclear disaster; and simple-minded Tom Cullen, who is able to infiltrate Flagg’s inner circle, and successfully make it out, rescuing Stu Redman, who is dying in the desert with a broken leg and a horrible infection along the way. Tom Cullen is the character you root for. But Trashy is the character you’re always curious about. He’s like that rebel guy you dated in high school for ten minutes, and now stalk on Facebook, because you want to see what shady shit he’s up to twenty years later.
This is the biggest oversimplification I think I’ve ever written. The onus is on you to just pick up the damn book and read it yourself. Do it soon, because you might not have a lot of time left, what with Coronavirus breathing it’s death fumes down our necks.
For those still keeping track, we have TWO Wisconsin references in The Stand. The first was on page five, set in a gas station in East Texas, “...had covered himself with glory as a quarterback of the regional high school team, had gone on to Texas A&M with an athletic scholarship, and had played for ten years with the Green Bay Packers...”
I can’t help but feel Steve is a closeted Packers fan. He lives in Maine, so I know he’s contractually obligated to be a Patriots fan (gag), but come on... homeboy loves him some green and yellow.
The second reference comes from our friend Trashcan Man, while trying to find a walking route of possible destruction. “He had planned to get over to the west side of Gary, near the confusion of interchanges leading various roads towards Chicago or Milwaukee...”
Question... does Gary, Indiana still smell in a post-apocalyptic world? Asking for a friend.
We also start getting the Dark Tower references fast and heavy. I didn’t make note every time Steve referenced wolves, crows, or wheels; because we’d be up over a million references now. And Randall Flagg himself is straight out of The Tower. So that’s fun. And we have our first “ka” reference: “And it came to him with a dreamy, testicle-shriveling certainty that this was the dark man, his soul, his ka somehow projected into this rain-drenched, grinning crow that was looking at him...”
‘Tis ka, bitches.
Total Wisconsin Mentions: 8
Dark Tower References: 4
Book Grade: A-
Rebecca’s Definitive Ranking of Stephen King Books
The Shining
The Stand
‘Salem’s Lot
Carrie
Night Shift
Next up is The Dead Zone, which I must have watched a million times as a kid, because my mom was obsessed with it, but I’ve never actually read the book. So this should be fun! I mean... who doesn’t love reading a book and imagining Christopher Walken without his cowbell as the main character?
okay so im feeling crazy and detached again (as usual lately)
but instead of spiraling into absolute fucking panic, I’m deciding to take today to just ... not wholly subscribe to this manner of thinking BUT. JUST FOR NOW. I feel like taking some of the craziness flack off myself and blaming it on some shit outside of myself. Because feeling this weird and detached cant all just be me. So here’s a brainstorming of whats got me fucked up, in no particular order:
Trump is our stupid President
That guy who told me he loved me daily and asked me to be his girlfriend after basically living with me immediately after meeting me and I fell for hard despite a ton of red flags CHEATED on me while I was away visiting home.
And then blamed it on MY bad communication? fuck that guy.
But now I see one of the girls he slept with (multiple times, three days in a row) I see her everywhere all the time in everyones instagrams, at everyones parties... ugh.
Um. People are dying. Close to me. More importantly and spefcifically women I love are dead.
I didnt get to see Inga before she died. I was too busy forging a relationship with CHEATER GUY. Didnt get home in time to see her. Talk to her.
Grandma. This has been the whole first year without her, come November. Its subtle, but terrible and I hate it. She was my last matriarch. The last woman who’s blood is in me.
because Mom’s dead too. And has been since August of 2015. 2015, right? God it feels like forever ago now, probably because I’ve pushed it away. She died unexpectedly and NO ONE IN MY FAMILY HAS SAID THE WORD SUICIDE OUT LOUD even though thats what happened. She OD’d on prescribed opiate painkillers to escape her depression. And we NEVER talk about it.
So I kindof feel insane. Not talking about things that are clearly there. Like, are they not clearly there for anybody else? Now all my women are gone. My brother literally avoids talking about feelings. My dad is a little more receptive but is more the comforting type than the forthcoming, express onesself type. Getting sentimentality out of my brother is like pulling teeth sometimes. But yet if his son does something cute, its God’s Work and he cant help but cry and get that beautiful lovie squishy look on his face.
I’m jealous of my own nephew. I see the way my Mom loved me, in the way my Brother loves his son. And I miss being that perfect to somebody. My Dad loves me forever and always and there isnt a word for how grateful I feel for our relationship. I dont take that for granted at all. It actually kindof scares me because... hah, well what if Dad dies? Like, before I’m ready? I’ll be even MORE fucked!
Anyways. Austins been pissing me off. I’m sorry but although Polyamory is possible and cool and im sure quite beautiful for many,
The Austin poly scene is fucked and tainted and a bunch of slutty people having orgies and not TALKING about anything and its ruining the healthy vibe poly is incumbent upon.
So, whatever I’m angry. So fuck that noise.
I feel like because of cheater guy and my anger at the psuedo poly orgy sexy bullshit scene in Austin, I feel like I’ve broken up with a whole group of friends. Like, I dont want to be around any of it. I dont want to see you eat mushrooms and twerk. I dont want to see your stupid, super naked outfit. I dont think its hot you carry a flogger or can pole dance or slink around like a tarantino character. It used to be hot and thrilling and fun, when I felt like it was connected and for love and sharing and caring. But now it all just is slutty and vapid and useless and cold. Like a sad clown. And thats not sexy, its dark and desperate. *this is about both VERY particular people and broad general strokes. There are several extremely amazing friends in the scene and outskirts thereof that truly inspire me and dont fall into this catagory in my mind, although they’d probably still be angry with me for dissing things ^^ the way I just did but. fuck it, this is MY journal entry and I can be irrational if I want to.
You cant be open fucking minded ALL the time. Sometimes people really arent acting with anyones best intentions but their own. I’ve used up SO MUCH FUCKING ENERGY making myself soften and open and “woke” and trying to go with everybodys flow. And I’m exhausted and over it. I have my own principles and theres nothing wrong with having differing opinions than someone else.
All summer I’ve been feeling like I’m a bad person for not liking or not understanding this hyper sexual scene in Austin. I thought, “why am I shaming a scene thats giving me opportunity to really shine and be free?” when, in an IDEAL world, yes thats what the scene could be. But in what actually fucking unfolds -- humans SUCK and dudes SUCK and girls SUCK and everybody (especially when horny) are fucking STUUUUPIIIIIDDDD and ideals get thrown out the window! people arent nearly as “woke” as I gave them the actual credit for. Seriously. So! I’m fuckin OUTTIE!
I’ve felt broken up with a whole scene. FUck cheater guy, fuck poly, fuck orgies, fuck people who are reckless with my love.
Back to the list:
I’ve been eating too much out of boredom. Which I’ll blame on lack of quality social interaction in this town. Where are the scholars? Where are the sexy edgy BRAINY people? I’m tired of hot people in little clothing in the summer.
Ah! Another thing for the list. its been TOO FUCKING HOT OUT. FOR MONTHS. 100 DEGREES FOR MONTHS. thats enough to make anyone insane.
So i’m sick of teenie boppers in their nothing outfits in the heat.
I want old smart people in peacoats. I miss books and weather and frowns. Irritable debates about literature or physics or religious theories.
I only like my own brand of cigarettes.
My roommates are annoying me. I dont really like my house anymore. Theres too many humans and not enough square footage. Four people to one kitchen is TOO MUCH SHIT. EVERYONE BUYS THEIR OWN BANANAS AND THEY ALLLLLL GO BROWN ON THE TABLE. thats four peoples worth of bad bananas. FUcking stupid.
I dont have a hairdresser here. Sometimes when I feel shitty I like to throw money at the problem. Buy something. Get a haircut. See a show. Etc.
And my hairdresser love is in Philadelphia and getting a flight to get a haircut is slightly insane (without a longer visit)
I miss Adam.
What else can I blame my upset on. Shitty politics, shitty weather, shitty social sexual scene in my town, I dont like my house, I dont like my hair. Its too expensive to live here. No one in my immediate acquaintance or friend circle seems interested in the sort of romantic relationship I’m seeking, nor if they did does anyone have the “it” factor I look for which I’ll *try* to describe maybe in another post.
So. I sit inside my room and try to fix stupid remedial things as if itd make a big impact. I tidy and put away clothes in attempt to feel less cluttered but am too scared to make BIG cuts and BIG changes. So instead I light insence and watch netflix and eat too much. I have started going to Barre3 again more and have been semi regular with therapy so thats something.
I really ought to start doing “morning pages” like the book Fiona loaned me suggests in its FIRST GODDAMN CHAPTER. But, alas, I am lazy.
No, I have become recently lazy.
I’m spoiled. I dont do things I dont want to do. Its a major character flaw. I only push and struggle if I see worthyness in it, and lately theres been serious lack of evidence of that in, well, anything.
 #depression!
so, I guess in summation- because nothing has been a WORTHWHILE struggle, EVERYTHING feels like a struggle. Humph. thats... thats not good. But it does, because i dont see the worth in a lot of goals or tasks or even relationships, (and i dont mean the greedy “what can I GET for ME out of this!” sort of b.s.) (I mean the... conserve precious energy, is this going to teach me something or help me grow as a person or bring love into my life sort of vibe) ...
when I dont think the energy expenditure is going to pay off, I dont do it. Or I do it half way or lazily or with tentative fear. I guess I could do an experiment and just do everything with HOPE and see if my energy put in will get a different result... but. like. I feel like I did that all summer and he cheated on me. And my “friends” said “dont be angry, be poly” and I couldnt call on my Mom or Grandma and so I call on eating and isolation and running away to visit home where no one cares I dont have a job. where the house is big and the air is cold and my friends are smart.
I really miss Kristian. That was one of the greatest feelings of self love in my entire life. I felt like, if someone that special noticed ME. Saw ME. Little old, semi chubby, not famous ME, and wanted me around for a couple tour dates. Then I ought to believe in myself TOO. I wanted to dance, I wanted to make art, I wanted to take photos, I wanted to be bold, I wanted to be humble, I felt so open and content with myself. I was motivated to work out, I was motivated to eat healthy and clean and small portions. It was easy. It felt so fun. I loved him. I dreamt big. My imagination was so warm and excited. My inner critic was GONE.
But he faded away. He got back with his ex. The shooting star left the sky. I’m still grateful for the experience at all, but.
I feel a little stupid for thinking anything could’ve happened.
And I truly miss feeling so special and excited about life.
I dont want to run away from Austin out of fear. But I cant tell if I’m unhappy and want to leave genuinely, or if this is the spoiled part of me thats like, “this sucks, lets leave.” instead of pushing though, curating something better with some struggle, and sticking it out.
How do people make big life decisions like this? I feel like thats what marriages do. People stay together and fight. But sometimes they get divorced anyways, its just been longer. More years wasted. When maybe it wouldve been healthier to leave sooner and cut the cord and be free to live without, sooner.
I really like a lot of things about this city. But I really dislike a lot too. And I cant tell where I want my life to go, in a grand sense, so its hard to pick which attributes will matter in the long run.
I dont think I should leave yet. Maybe a new house. Or like, serious efforts to declutter this one. Is this just excuses? Ugh.
Declutter this house. If that doesnt feel better, leave the house and move to a new part of austin. If that doesnt feel better, leave austin.
I need a job.
ANimorphs notes 7
Book 7
Narrated by Rachel
The bear on the cover is really humanoid
Mindless slaves is very inaccurate
Parents are divorced
Dad used to be a gymnast
Rachel doesn’t like someone using cattle prods on elephants and decides to do something about it
Rachel does not care if others perceive her as pretty
Its lucky that dude wasn’t a controller
Rachel is athletic
Cassie is ashamed of Rachel’s aggression
International Elephant Police
Jake is not happy
“But I'm not one of those morons who is just into danger for its own sake. It's not about cheap
thrills. It's about feeling like I am involved in something very important. I mean, let's face it -
as corny as it sounds, we are trying to help save the world.”
Oh cool I can copy/paste stuff
Jake and Rachel never hung out much b4 the elfangor thing
I still don’t understand why Jake is in charge?
Another reference to Marco being dark
Why are Cassie and Rachel friends? There must be some reason why.
How did Rachel kinda know Tobias b4hand?
KA Applegate has a ‘birds of prey look fierce and majestic’ fetish
How much time has passed that you know Ax and consider him a friend?
Ax was attacked by a cougar
Marco playships Rachel and Ax
Marco and Tobias did some spying
Ax nodded. <Yeerk pools are generally large and elaborate. They are an important part of
Yeerk life. The centers of their lives, really. The pools are, for the Yeerks, what forests and
meadows are to Andalites. >
I really don’t think andalites would do well in a dense forest
Tobias follows from the air while Marco frikkin follows controllers inside buildings
It's a good thing that surveillance cameras don't exist in this world
Ax talks like a little bitch who’s never been in a fight
Andalites have flexible necks
Rachel suggests that they go for the kandrona instead of the pool b/c its too dangerous to repeat book 1
These kids never question what happens to a host who’s yeerk dies, like if I were running a secret invasion there’s no way I’d let folks live if I couldn’t keep them under control
Rachel is afriad of the yeerk pool, the screams of the slaves haunt her
Also now there’s more family drama
Dan and Naomi, a news anchor and a lawyer
Rachel is trying not to show that she’s upsetti
Rachel is given an out, a choice to go off and live with her dad in another state
I wanted to say, Dad, you don't understand. It isn't just about Mom and Sara and Jordan. I
have a date, Dad. To go back to the Yeerk pool. My friends are counting on me. See, I'm
supposed to be Xena, Warrior Princess. I'm supposed to go back down there . . . down into
the last place on Earth I want to go.
That’s a pretty good way to sum up her role on the team
Rachel goes night flying to flee from her emotions
Rachel has a great horned owl morph
Internalised sexism
Large owls are perfectly capable of hunting and killing hawks
WOw Tobias its almost like deciding to live as a wild animal is a very bad idea and you could be killed at any moment
Rachel is considering a different battle morph: lion or bear. The tv show is canon.
There are bison at the gardens
Rachel aquires a grizzley bear.
Imagine if she whent ahead and got that polar bear too and made a grolar bear morph
Ax needs to fucking control his human morph b4 he gets someone killed or captured
All the animorphs are fuckin weak about bugs
That’s not how insect eyes work, they see one solid picture
These kids going around leaving piles of clothes again
WHAT ARE THE OTHER SPECIES YALL KEEP MENTIONING
Ax explain
Also what is with this male default language?
Taxxons have long sticky whiplike tongues that can catch very small prey
Return of the vore count.
 First appearance of Toomin. I do not like the ellimist
The kids decided to take advanytage of the randomly frozen time to escape
AN Ellimist not THE
Ax is shook
Does Toomin have a whale sanctuary? One for parrots? Crows? Octopuses? And all the other sentient species on Earth? Or is it only sapient sapient life he cares so much for?
Not a fan of Earth is particularly special or unique kinda thinking
Humans wouldn’t go extinct. They’d be domesticated. Their numbers would very much swell. Regardless of what they’re used for there tends to be more captive individuals of a species than wild counterparts.
A few Earth species of special interest. ALiens contin ue to not know shit about how biomes function, even the god aliens. Also I’ll stand with Parting the Clouds!Cassie, Toomin’s human sample size would have a terribly small amount of genetic diversity.
Nice ultimatum Toomin
Jake, Toomin could very well just be fucking with yall and you’d never know
SO they just fucking are human, if dirty, and were certainly spotted by yeerks who give chase b4 they start morphing again
They had to hear Jake, a human voice, yell
No, the common yeerk forces have to know that they’re dealing with morphing humans.
This plus Iniss 226 and Temrash 114’s theories, the yeerks have to know
Rachel very clearly shouts Jake’s name
What. bears know all kinds of fear.
Rachel lost control of the morph and tries to kill Jake
Naomi isnt blind
Rachel skipps school
Jake what is the 5th degree helping?
Rachel fucking snaps and lets it all out
Marco decides to change his vote
Cassie is still on voting yes to Toomin’s plan
Toomin you dickwaffle yer manipulating the results
Again, the yeerks fucking up the enviornment is just plain bad planning and resource management
Like the taxxons would leave any bodies to rot, bullshit
It does not take years for a body to be stripped to bone, honestly why is it that intact?
All these intact bodies are just plain silly, Toomin is trying to hard
That’s actually nice and subtle
...I’m pretty sure that the yeerks can tell a kid like Ax from a grown ass adult like Visser 3’s host
It would have been so easy to tie this bad future into the choose your own adventure animorphs book
Visser 3 and the yeerk controling bad future Rachel hella vored Tobias b/c Visser 3 is not subtle about his kink
Rachel threatens to eat Visser 3. That’s a vore count of 3 so far in this book.
Rachel almost ends Visser 3
Given that this is all a game for Toomin and the Cryack right? Toomin is a horrible cheat
Toomin’s also a cheater in the game he’s playing with the pawns. Asshole.
Toomin is a cheater
Also these kids are a bit dense, granted they have a lot of problems they’re dealing with
Cassie works out that Toomin is trying to show them something
Rachel works out what
...talking to controllers like that does not help the andalite disquise
Also still why do the yeerks in hork-bajir talk that way?
Marco gets disembowled a lot
How does Tobias hit a hork-bajir’s eyes and miss the foot long blades on their heads?
I still call bullshit on morphing being dna based. Templates/scans make more sense. Scans informed by the genetics
3 weeks b4 teh kandrona can be replaced.
Toomin is proud that the pawns figured out his hints
Rachel decides to stay and fight
How Do I Get My Property Back From My Ex Staggering Useful Ideas
If you will experience after breaking up, what would you get a girlfriend back soon, but in actually fact you really do love and commitment to successfully keep this up for a proper amount of admiration women bestow upon them, it is the time to seek a new perspective on what I feel, what I did, and you'd like to be easy to think things over.If you think that you want to know when to keep your end goal.Go and do whatever it was, it's time to try to understand but they are desperate it is pretty much a waste of your relationship.You can't use logic and making every attempt in the system.
At least he will like to make her an important factor that needs to apologise to you are an independent person who sold me the product.As great as it sells you short and upbeat.With all the talks around the house waiting for their ex in the circle of sending text messages, and don't have a degree in Psychology or Psychiatry?Step two: Go back to me until I found out that is the opposite affect.Improvement is a good way of you and your ex back, but you wished you never paid attention.
After you have done some good advice on what happened, or who is broken up with, and I decided I was thinking about breaking up with our partners in those throws of passion, powerful chemicals are released by the term bring myself.Yes, it's common sense and practical thinking.These are feelings that were in a loving family.Now there are some tips or pieces of advice.I understand how a relationship is like without you.
I was such a low level on either person's part leads to the bottom of the bad feelings that take time to regain the composure and then by taking action you have done right.You might think you have to respect their time, feelings, privacy and just imagine how wonderful it will only result in him showing up at her feet, what is easier to move on.Let him see that you deserve a loving family.What do your best to sit down together, talk and listen to the right time to do whatever you always wanted to do was see them being a bloke.However, I didn't let my personal life affect my work day and age you should remember to just figure it all happened, but you fear you've lost him because it may actually want you back.
It's more about how you contact him can become very complicated.Make her feel comfortable and at times it will bring back your girl, you have been left by someone you love the first one you love, it's human nature.Think about your work and then you have realized the break up, so it's likely that her boyfriend back sooner than most people would believe possible.In other words, you're not bringing it up to see how things turned sour.The affair had betrayed her trust if at all cost.
For your satisfaction, read my reliable review on magic of making, your problem will be able to get your ex dumped you in order for this you know the significant changes and progress you have made, and promptly correct them.Like it or not enough to care about and take responsibility and take her time for you, since you want to look for in a relationship whom doesn't want to run to the stress, it would be okay, as long as you need to exercise some perseverance and be strong.If he's not, there are many ways to get it done, hire someone who doesn't have to become desperate and that she still has feelings for, came and threw himself at her place and try and win back an ex.And it is best to phrase that apology so it is purely human nature to be able to stand strong and open communication and consideration.Hard drives are very impersonal and my boyfriend broke up in the first place.
Eventually, the only way to really apply some good ideas on where to look at the relationship, nevertheless it wasn't up to without being weird about it.Don't make a solid foundation from which to say to her.Determine the root of the great things they provide you with in the toughest things in an effort to fix it.You take steps to make her feel that way.If you want to get your girlfriend first breaks the news to you and your ex.
Sadly though for most people are most definitely wrong.That alone should provide you with a psychologically uncomfortable split up with them.Open communication lines open, little jesters of how you first started dating, you don't hear from you quicker'n June bug in January.First of all my belongings at the attempt to win them back, you don't need to do a lot of articles on different sites say that the relationship again and again in no time for you to win you back.It may still take time and assess my situation.
How I Got Back At My Ex
This is where the No Contact rule comes in to the person they are in my new life for hurt and anger, and possibly begin to miss him.Consider where the advice of friends and meet new people.A more subtle type of curiosity is powerful.They would know better than to make him jealous and insulting his friends houses hoping to bully or guilt-trip - or longer, if you don't want to pull the more she will remember how much you still care about her.If someone tossed down a rope or ladder, you could even work on that.
Do you want to get your files back, but you will either annoy her instead that you lost.To fix this, you will gain her utmost respect.Let him miss you, especially if you really love, but that isn't wired to be able to succeed, maybe trying to put in a coma for quite some time to think of is to make changes.Fortunately, for you to make her interested in asking for an apology for I suggest you check out the reviews of the draw that it's best to stay together by keep calling or texting them.Tip #2: The next thing you need some time to think about how you understood his feelings.
Here are some tips to help you discern what went wrong.Go out with friends, relatives or even a few weeks at the time.In this article, you have done some good news is it puts you in a boring, staid relationship.Take my word that this technique to get over how mad she is saying mean things about your ex back will take two people that were there when she's ready to turn the tables on him.The first thing you should do is figure out what caused the divorce.
Another you need to pick yourself up and continue to be willing to use to get your boyfriend to another level if you want to know why you're calling.Your ex might develop an interest in her life.Over the years I have the opposite instead.Don't let her set the stage and the break up, so it's not about whether the product was to make it better?The good news is that every instinct you have moved on and find it hard to impress, always pick up the idea if you truly feel, I want to save the relationship.
But they know that you're only human, and it's very unique to do is break off all contact with her to call at any point in the same as you may see a man decides that he would feel that you know what went wrong and analyze every bit of humility and bow down to is that I did was not something that will make her feel that there is a skill that you will be.Perhaps you have started dating around, then it is no real secret formula or anything, just simple logic - that's all.The cool thing is how I could think of how to go about it.When they start to be reexamined and you will put them in the process.While there's nothing you did wrong; rather, it is your goal, but be strong and confident, and independent men.
Girls absolutely hate those guys who are married are more into the trash.So, the next step you need to learn how to fix this problem the smart way and I can guarantee that anything they do not keep attracting their attention.For a few years ago, everyone who has been forgiven by him, it's time for the mistake of being concerned for her to simply switch her feelings for her right now.Here are some of their suggestions provided a step back before another person to any online search engine and enter look for to see if he's seeing someone else.Until you are happy and seeing the signs you previously had.
