Being loved by you feels
Like laying in warm laundry
Straight from the dryer.
It feels like dancing with the fireflies
In a field at night.
Your love is jazz and sunflowers.
Being loved by you is a forest
Right after a rain.
Like an ant using a leaf as an umbrella,
Or the tallest, oldest,
Strongest redwood tree.
Your smile is the sunrise at sea.
Your love is a cloak
To keep away the coldest of winters.
Your love is hot chocolate
And a fire.
Your love is wine and music.
Being loved by you,
Its like the small creatures
Coming out of their hidey-holes
After a storm.
Your love is autumn.
Being loved by you is hope.
How It Feels (To be Loved)

I mean Rhaenyra has a partner in Laenor who she might resent a bit but she can approach as an equal and even a superior. Alicent’s partner has been raping her since she was 14 years old. A little empathy? It’s not a moral failing on Alicent’s part that she can’t establish a partnership on terms like Rhaenyra can. She’s always had less space to operate.
oh to be clear i am totally on alicent's side, she's my favorite character. but i think it's totally possible to appreciate a well-constructed character, feel for her and still analyze why she acts the way she acts.
alicent definitely had less privilege than rhaenyra. rhaenyra was the princess while alicent was just a lady, rhaenyra's father was fairly supportive of her and her dreams while otto never considered what alicent wanted in life. alicent is also never shown with a mother while rhaenyra has one at least in the beginning. rhaenyra is very lucky to marry laenor of all people which leaves her relatively free to live her sexuality freely while alicent gets. viserys. and viserys especially treats rhaenyra with more consideration than any other woman in his life, including alicent.
i think alicent is very traumatized by all this bc she always started out with a little less than rhaenyra. sex and rape are very sensitive topics and i think that's why their marriages/sex lives are what creates the rift between alicent rhaenyra in the first place bc rhaenyra is kind of safe and kind of free while alicent is imprisoned in a marriage she doesn't want and - and i think it's good to say that - gets raped.
now. i highlighted some stuff up there bc it's very clear in the show that while alicent is imprisoned, rhaenyra is by no means free. rhaenyra is also still a woman. rhaenyra also loses her mother to a violent death at the hands of her father. rhaenyra may get some choice in who she marries but in the end she still has to get married. rhaenyra may be able to choose her sexual partners but she's never free from scrutiny in the way a man would be (see the whole strong sons thing). and the thing is that alicent is kind of enforcing those norms. it's more subtle when she is a child (aren't you concerned about your position?) but more obvious now (someday laenor might get a child that looks like him).
what alicent can't do bc she's had such a terrible life, bc she needs to believe that she fulfilled her duty, bc she needs to believe that rhaenyra is somehow doing something wrong, is stand in solidarity with another woman, with her friend. as rhaenyra says, they are one house, they are allies and they used to be friends so they should stand together. she's talking about the targaryens but she might as well talk about alicent and her life as women who should be there for each other. not being able to do that is alicents big flaw i think and that's what i was trying to express w my post.
i love alicent and i sympathize with her so much. her world is so cruel. but in the end, it's good to keep in mind that she's a character and not a person like you and me

Big fan of sun motifs in characters not necessarily being about positivity and happiness and how they're so " bright and warm" but instead being about fucking brutal they are.
Radiant. A FORCE of nature that will turn you to ash. That warmth that burns so hot it feels like ice. Piercing yellow and red and white. A character being a Sun because you cannot challenge a Sun without burning alive or taking everything down with them if victorious.

I wish we had more female characters like Eleanor Shellstrop. One of the most unlikable people you've ever met. Read a Buzzfeed article on most rude things you can do on a daily basis and decided to use that as a list of goals. Makes everyone's day worse just by being there. Dropped a margarita mix on the ground and tried to pick it up, only to get hit by a row of shopping carts which pushed her into the road where she was hit by a boner pill delivery truck, killing her instantly. Cannot keep a romantic partner despite being bisexual. Had a terrible childhood but will die before she gets therapy. Best employee at a scam company. Just the worst but also can't help but root for her to improve.
Absolute loser. Girl-failure. Bad at almost everything. Literally perfect female character.
