The eating insects thing

A far-right anti-vax conspiracy theory that has existed for a few years now has recently increased in popularity and has been breaching containment, especially in vegan circles, so I guess we have to talk about it:

Keep an eye out for scary sounding posts about eating insects.

Some of the claims to expect are this:

Governments are secretly allowing more insects to be put into food. - It is true that more edible insects have been approved for the EU market lately, but this process is not secret at all.

Some people are allergic to Chitine, which is found in shellfish and hard-shelled insects - this is true.

Chitine is also dangerous to people who are not allergic to it and causes cancer - this is not true. It traces back to study that has been taken out-of-context about the impact of concentrated Chitine in cancer identification and treatment.

Eating large amounts of the insects being approved would damage your stomach lining or other intestines because of ‘toxic chitine’. - this is not true. It traces back to an old dietary advice on a Dutch website which only mentioned that insect consumption was safe up to 45 grams at a time. What this meant was: we didn’t find a study that researched higher doses. There are plenty of studies by now and it turns out it’s fine.

Insects are ‘bird food’ and humans did not evolve to digest the insects currently being approved for consumption. - this is not true. There are 1500 insect species that are regularly safely consumed by millions of people around the world. The insects that are currently being approved for the European market have been consumed by humans for as long as we can trace the human diet and many are consumed by our closest primate relatives.

Bill Gates and other insert-conspiracy-name-here billionaires are buying up farm land to deliberately cause food shortages and to force us to eat bugs - this is not true. Land is just a popular investment right now due to other economic pressures.

Governments are pushing for lower meat consumption to force us to eat bugs. - this is not true. Any minimal encouragement of reduced meat consumption by governments is in response to the impact of meat consumption on climate change.

If you buy in to some of these scare stories, the next claim is that forcing people to eat bugs serves some darker government purpose, either simple misery and humiliation (accompanies by the claim that we’ll be forced to eat weeds and drink sewage water), forced population control (the Great Reset bullshit) or preparing us for the rule of reptilian overlords (antisemitism crap).

Now, let me be clear: there are valid reasons why you might want to avoid eating insects. ‘I just don’t want to’ is a good enough reason. Being vegan is an excellent reason. We know very little about the inner lives of insects but observations suggest that they are intelligent and feel pain. We do not currently know what constitutes a high quality of life or a painless death, so we could not ‘humanely’ farm insects even if we wanted to.

However, most of the claims above are misleading, racist and dangerous. They pave the way into far-right anti-vax and antisemitic conspiracy theories. Recognize them and avoid them. If you see your vegan friends share these claims: let them know what they’re doing. Don’t give this shit space.

1) Hometown Cha Cha Cha: An absolute masterpiece. It’s a heartwarming fish out of water story about a big city girl who finds herself in the quirkiest little seaside town. I wanted to stay in Gongjin forever. Grade: A+(Netflix)

2)*Extraordinary Attorney Woo (S1): The most delightful show ever. Never have I ever rooted for a lead harder. She is the most endearing lead you will ever find. And the male lead is THE standard by which all men will forever be judged. Grade: A+(Netflix)

3)Business Proposal: Bumped this up again cause it’s the show I have the urge to rewatch the most. I can’t stop thinking about it. It’s got every trope you can think of and it does them all to perfection. Plus it’s hilarious. Grade: A (Netflix)

4)*Alchemy of Souls (S1): Episodes 1-19 were the perfect blend of fantasy, adventure, mystery, comedy, and romance. With so many characters who are so lovable. Episode 20 will destroy you. Counting the seconds till season 2. Grade: A (Netflix)

5)Her Private Life: Super funny and charming. The romantic leads have incredible chemistry. The premise is so good! Might be the one of the most rewatchable kdramas. Grade: A (Netflix)

6)Rookie Historian Goo Hae Ryung: Great strong female lead. Very good messages. Couldn’t stop watching. The most adorable prince I’ve ever seen 💜Cha Eunwoo💜 Grade: A (Netflix)

7)Sh**ting Stars: Probable the biggest turnaround of any show I’ve seen (The “Africa” part was so problematic). However it turned out to be one of the funniest and swooniest KDramas out there. There are 5 couples and you will cheer for all of them. Grade: A- (Viki)

8)Strong Woman Do Bong Soon: The main couple is absolutely everything! Just fast forward through pretty much every side plot (they are not important) and you’ll love it. Grade: A- (Viki)

9)So I Married the Anti-Fan: It’s campy, fluffy, goodness, with a fierce female lead and a K-pop star enemy/love interest. Fastest binge of my life. Grade: A- (Viki)

10)Start-Up: Exceptional acting, compelling storylines, intriguing plot twists, great cinematography, intense love triangle. It’s just all around high quality. Grade: B+ (Netflix)

11)Run On: Cute, fun, silly and pretty light. I especially loved the supporting cast. Strange storyline but it was a fun easy ride. Grade: B+ (Netflix)

12)Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok-Joo: A bad-ass yet vulnerable female lead. The main couple just had a lot of fun together. Refreshing. Grade: B+ (Viki)

13)I Am Not A Robot: I was surprised I really liked this one. This goes in the zany premise category but it was surprisingly pretty grounded for how crazy the set up was. It’s funny, emotional, good story telling. Great character development. Grade: B+ (Viki)

14)Shopping King Louie: Adorable! Luis is too cute. I love it how he bops along like a penguin and his cute little screams at bugs. And Bok Sil is the warmest character, you just have to root for her. So many light fluffy feels for this show but it does drag a bit in the second half. Grade B (Viki)

15)Fight For My Way: Such lovable leads. Love the fierce female lead and adorable himbo male lead. It’s like a coming of age story but for 30 year olds. Storyline was ok. Second couple was skippable. Grade: B (Viki)

16)What’s Wrong with Secretary Kim: More PSJ is always a good thing. This drama did all the tropes in ways that didn’t always feel fresh, but it was very romantic and hilarious. A true classic. Grade: B (Viki)

17)Touch Your Heart: If you can just stick it out through the first few very shaky episodes, you will enjoy this adorable, fluffy, series. Grade: B- (Netflix)

18)Doom at Your Service: It was sometimes real sad yet ultimately a heart warming mystical story. Grade: B- (Viki)

19)True Beauty: Fun, cute, teen drama however, it’s a little too “antsy teen” for me. Cha Eunwoo though💜 Grade: C+ (Viki)

20)Suspicious Partner: Great story, great characters, attractive actors, beautiful romance, interesting plot, sometimes funny, sometimes suspenseful, but with 40 episodes, the plot was dragged so far out that it became hard to get through. Grade C+ (Viki)

21)Crash Landing On You: The first half is GREAT but the second half is way too melodramatic for my taste. It’s a very interesting storyline, the main couple has insane chemistry, and there are very lovable side characters. Grade: C+ (Netflix)

22)My Love From the Star: The main relationship is incredibly intense. I just wanted to find out what happened to them so I ended up fast forwarding through everything else. The age difference in the flashbacks creeped me out. Grade D+ (Viki)

23)My Secret Romance: The story of a total screw up female lead falling for a manipulative, gaslighting, hottie. It was problematic yet fun? So 🤷‍♀️ Grade: D+ (Netflix)

24)Our Beloved Summer: I LOVED V’s “Christmas Tree” OST however I struggled to keep watching. Boring storyline but great acting. Grade: D+ (Netflix)

25)Goblin: The age gap is too disturbing for me, like call the police disturbing. However, the Grim Reaper who is one of the most adorable characters I’ve ever seen. Grade: D- (Viki)

26)Extra-Ordinary You: I have never felt so betrayed by a second half of a series as I did in this one. All of the character development that it seemed to be leading to was replaced by a pretty sickening codependent relationship. Grade: D- (Viki).

Currently Watching: Today’s Webtoon (kinda blah), She Would Never Know (idk yet), Romance is a Bonus Book (loving it), 100 Days My Prince (so far so good).

I'll be completely honest, I think telescope was good but there's just something about YFM as a whole now that...I am just gonna rant about here.

So, first of all we should address the elephant in the room: the AI art that was used. Honestly, It was a terrible decision because indifferently from your views, it cheapened the music video; it was still, there wasn't any kind of action and I think that the fundamental issue is that it could have worked if they did something like what they did for a section in "damn I am ugly" (I believe) aka change their art style and animation style.

And it would have been MILES better AND it would have given actual artists/animators work, thus making for a much more compelling work with actual human contribution which would have given YFM more positive press, expecially counting how the other videos were of very varing qualities and the fanbase has been dissolving with the time (which also happened in gen 1.5 so history repeating itself ha ha (pain)). Because there are some actually decent visuals that could have been improved (like the stars in Deejay's hair) that I think are really cool but lack... humanity in them.

So now there is the other (baby) elephant in the room that are the new voices, and while I like Ben's voice replacement (I am the minority ig) Axel's is too...ooc??

It doesn't fit him at all, and I think that someone with an higher voice would be better in the role because it feels like RWJ just went "Well Axel is a strong, big guy so he must have a deep voice" and like no Ray. Not at all. He sounds more pop??? Jazzy??? Idk just one of those guys who do song covers on the clock app and that's not a bad thing, but it's AXEL!!! His whole personality is liking metal and he should have an higher voice, like Billie Joe ig??? I know that there are metal singers with deep voices, but his voice is not deep in YFMTS, and even if it was lower when singing, like Ben's, it would be THIS low.

Anyway sorry for ranting so hard about Axel, I just have really strong feelings about him and his impact on the song. But moving on, the rest was pretty alright and actually enjoyable; like yeah it's a pretty standard rap beat I suppose but it scratches your brain, the hook might be repeatable, but it's a hook that's kinda it's point. Steve saved this song honestly, if Axel was the only one singing the chorus or all of the guys togheter/separately, I would have like it WAY less.

I am so sorry for making this a confession but I honestly did it because I wanted to talk about how YFM I'd tiktok-fing itself and I got lost ranting (you have every right to delete this ask for it lol), but I think that the whole AI art and hook and lyrics and everything is more because YFM is kinda losing it's identity. I already touched in another ask about how YT shorts (which is Ray's main platform now) is full of AI art content, and while I think that it was actually used because Ray was actually trying to experiment, I can't but think that there is a deeper reason that is ingrained in the amount of AI art there is on the site. And I think that the reason is how yfm is becoming way less Ray's music project and more Ray's vtuber account; with the few releases and the yt shorts etc.

And I think that that's also represented in how the songs are becoming more pop sounding or catchy or smth, idk how to explain it but they feel more corporate? Which it's dumb, I know, but bear with me. When you listen to something like my balls, you can still feel the silliness that yfm was born from, just dumb meme rap. But it's kinda getting lost, the song aren't really that jokingly anymore I suppose, they take themselves more seriously and that doesn't really jive with YFM presentation imo.

Hey guys!

I just wanted to thank everyone for being very patient and understanding with me these last few months during my travels and weird posting schedule. I truly appreciate the support and all the kind messages I have received recently. I'm back settled in Australia now (and mostly over the insane jetlag lol), so my schedule can mostly return to what it used to be, with a few changes.

Previously I updated Royalty Mod every month, which worked for a while but eventually led to burn-out for me as I had almost no time to work on updates for other mods and led to some updates I was less than happy with quality-wise.

I will be testing out a new schedule for the next few months of updating Royalty Mod every other month, and releasing updates for pre-existing mods/new content on the months in-between. Hopefully this will mean higher quality updates with more content for both RM and other mods.

I am also trying to implement more set hours around modding, which means I will be able to have set times each day dedicated to troubleshooting mods on Discord and bug fixing those issues, which right now is looking to be between 9-11AM ACST (Adelaide Time) Monday to Friday. Obviously I understand most people looking for help are in different time zones, so I will try to troubleshoot issues outside of those hours but I will be much more responsive during those times.

I have a feeling that Azul was not exactly a big fan of the summertime, on the surface that is. Being an octomer who has spent the majority of his life within the much cooler ocean, his first summer on the surface felt like absolute hell. It was far too hot, everything was sticky and sweaty, he was always dehydrated, his skin was far more adapted to receiving sunlight beneath the waves, not above it, so I think he would sunburn easily.

Because of this, he would absolutely join you in the much more comfortable indoors during the blistering summer heat. Maybe you would like to join him in the Coral Sea? He could easily procure a potion to allow you to breathe beneath the waves and the temperature is much cooler and better yet, no bugs. While beneath the waves, you will not have to worry about a single bug.

Azul is a very emotional person, he just works very hard to keep them in check. As a child, he would cry over everything, especially if the bullies were involved. If he sees that a situation is getting far too overwhelming for you and your anxiety is starting to rise higher and higher, he quickly enlists the tweels in getting rid of what is causing this to happen (if it is a person), while he quickly whisks you away to either his dorm room or the VIP Lounge, which would have two different results.

If you were taken to his dorm room, he brings out a spare set of pajamas that he had purchased after he started dating you. Once changed, he lets you lay in his bed, all tucked in and cozy while he makes you a cup of tea with some small snacks. Overall, Azul would give your relationship 110% at all times while still being the charming businessman that he is. He ensures that you are well taken care of at all times and to make sure the day is less anxiety inducing as he can. He may mess up a little along the way but he really is trying, For you, he will always try.

The Welcome Home update was absolutely fantastic and showed so many sides to the silly puppets we all love and enjoy! Although I have to admit some of the audios with Wally did surprise me a bit, especially the ones where he was off to the side and out of the spotlight (except for the interview of course). I feel like this choice was definitely on purpose to make us question what his role truly was in the show. Perhaps he wasn’t in the spotlight as much as we first thought? Maybe him solely becoming the focus for such a big audience instead of the cast altogether recently would cause such distress?

Especially after decades of who knows what that’s been happening in the Neighborhood. He’s an artist with just a bucket of paint, a blank canvas, and everyone is watching over his shoulder on what he’ll do next. Wallys not even not sure if were there let alone listening, He’s just alone with nobody to guide him, no silly adventure to go on with friends, let alone share a laugh with. He was a stand in, a host to the audience that allowed us to participate in the wacky adventures that went on in Welcome Home. But without his friends and audience what is he now?…

Anyways! This is just my speculation, I really do wonder what��s going on behind the scenes though with this funny little guy. (Also I realized the way Wally speaks reminds me a lot of the dialogue/interactions from Silent Hill 2. It’s kinda awkward and weird but looking back still charming).

i don't want to totally rule out anything in this ask as a possibility, given how early we still are - i think the idea that wally being the closest thing the show had to a protagonist was something that emerged later in its run and that such a change was overwhelming for him, doubly so in the present day with [vague gesture] everything else he's got going on, is a Very compelling one, for one thing. but this ask does remind me: i'm kind of surprised by how many people assume that wally is like, actually physically alone right now? (save for home, anyways.)

I am SICK and TIRED of rubbish tier lists. I get that they're easy and cheap and often used as filler in a youtube channel, but so many are SO BAD when they can actually be really good and informational! So I am going to make a GUIDE on how to make a Tier List video that people will watch and respect, EVEN IF they think your opinion is garbage!

This will not save you from angry comments, but if you do it right people will care about your tier list enough to leave angry comments.

STEP 1: DEFINE THE LIST

You can make tier lists based on literally anything, so it's important to define WHAT you're basing the tier list on. For video games, for instance, are you judging in general across all levels of play? Or exclusively high end? Even if you're focused on high end, are you focused on hypothetically ideal play? Or average pro skill level? Or what? That might impact the list's outcome!

STEP 2: DEFINE THE TIERS

Okay bucko, if you just put down a tier list of S through F for me I will have so much trouble parsing actual quality information from it. Is A tier 'needs nerfs badly' or just 'An acceptable meta'? Is D tier where Bad Stuff starts? Or do Ds get Degrees? Is C decent or just meh? Bonus points if you actually DEFINE each tier. For instance:

Great (Excels in all situations) Good (Acceptable in all situations and/or Excels in niche situations) Situational (Acceptable in in niche situations) Adequate (Functions in niche situations, but not notably well) Failure (Does not function)

See? If I were to put something on THIS tier list you would know INSTANTLY how much I respect it. It also encourages a more nuanced approach than 'everything below A tier is garbage'.

STEP 3: SUBJECTIVITY DISCLAIMER

You might consider this mostly just covering your butt, but I cannot understate how this changes the tone of a tier list. Tier lists that are clearly built with a bias but claim not to be are aggravating. Include a brief oversight of your experience and point of view. Are you a middling player sharing your thoughts on the game for other middling players? Say that. Have you been playing the game for so long that you remember a time when the basic mechanics of the game are fundamentally different? Say that. This kind of context helps others understand why you're approaching the tier list the way you are.

You can make a subjective tier list. You always can. Just be clear up front that it's subjective, and your subjective point of view.

YOU ARE NOW ALLOWED TO PUT STUFF INTO TIERS

Finally! Now, if you want your Tier List to do rounds, here's what you have to do:

Clearly communicate the subject's location in the tier list.

Address, briefly, whether you have a personal bias and what it is.

Address why it is where it is on the tier list.

Acknowledge any major dissent you expect to this placement, and discuss it briefly.

Now, you're going to be tempted to at some point say 'but you all know why that is' about something or other. DO NOT. Remember, every video is someone's first introduction to a topic. If a bit of common community knowledge plays a major part in a placement (a scandal, a bug, a major mechanic, etc) at least call it by name so a curious outsider can enter into the space and look it up if they feel the need. A tier list that just goes, 'Melvin is B tier, and only because of the MOOS tech, moving on,' is NOT satisfactory. Mention that, perhaps, the MOOS tech allows him to hit the DPS cap, and address why he's still only in B tier because of it. You don't need to go over the tech itself in detail, only how it impacts the placement on the tier list.

BE SURE YOU HIT BOTH THE STRENGTHS AND WEAKNESSES OF THE SUBJECT. I cannot understate how fast I bail on Tier Lists that are all strengths or all weaknesses. This is in part the 'major dissent' bit, but it's also a big part of where it is: why isn't it higher? Why isn't it lower? By and large, things in video games are made to be balanced or at least have interactions. If something really doesn't have any upsides, specifically say as such: that at least makes it sound like you're TRYING to be fair.

Whatever I think, LL have decided to move to EEP and that is 's their world and their rules so we must come to terms with it as best we can. To my mind this move to EEP is a classic case of "shiny for shiny's sake" - it seems to offer not much gain for a whole lot of pain, but others may hold a different view. To my knowledge no other TPVs are on a par with the current LL codebase but I bow to the superior knowledge of others if I am wrong. FS will improve, that is also in my experience, but how long it will take is anyone's guess. I have little doubt that Niran Dean will adopt the EEP code, and if my experience of his abilities is anything to go by, Black Dragon will do a better job of rendering EEP than the current Firestorm. So presently some viewers, which have not adopted the EEP code, appear to give superior results simply because they are using the old code. My FPS went from about 25 to less than 10 and I had to drop my render quality to achieve even that!
