Erm, hello!
I am an aspiring writer. I have these stories in my head that I love and want to write about. But when I try, it's the absolute worst shit I've ever seen in my life.
Sorry, what I'm trying to ask is, any tips for younger writers who have no idea what they're doing...?
Hi! I have no idea what I'm doing ever, but I'll try to answer as best as I can. I'll start with generic advice, then say what works for me specifically. Sorry this got so long.
We're all kind of fumbling through life. The writing habits that I have have come from three sources:
a) hearing what other people do and building from them. I'm always in one writers group or another (currently I'm in a local writers group, and I'm regularly involved with two different NaNoWriMo groups in November, one locally and one virtually) and I've picked up a lot from them
b) a metric fuckton of trial and error. Because while part (a) is great some of the time, most of the things that work for other people don't work for me. I can't set a strict schedule at the same time everyday. I can't edit for a long time after I write.
c) NaNoWriMo (see link) helped me SO MUCH. I don't think everything can be written that way, but in terms of getting a handle on your own voice, preventing yourself from stopping to edit, and letting the story flow on its own, NaNo is amazing. It's a great starting point. Editing can come later, once the words are done on the page.
If you're unfamiliar, it's a (totally free) event that happens in November every year where everyone tries to write 50,000 words of a brand new novel in the span of one month. That's 1,667 words per day, so there isn't much time to stop and edit as you go. You just keep going. It's a competition against yourself rather than anyone else, to see if you can accomplish the task. It's also a community based event, so you can commiserate with other writers about the bad and celebrate with them about the good.
They have smaller events in April and July, but to really get the feel of it, November is when it's a party (or a rollercoaster, either way). I went to write-ins in cafes, bars, grocery stores, on the subway, etc. The event is a whole vibe, and now they have in person events again (they paused for covid). If you want to stay virtual, they have that too!
And as for what works for me:
1.
This most certainly wouldn't work for everyone, but it's my current strategy:
I think best when I'm in motion. By far. So most of my storyboarding I do while walking or driving, and I dictate into the notes app on my phone.
I do most of my dialogue this way too, because speaking it out loud makes it feel more like a conversation and more natural. I won't dictate the narration, but I'll include action tags. So it comes out like "Anthony: *flings door open, eyes wide* what in blazes are you doing??" (I add punctuation later)
Then when I get home, I often have several thousand words of notes to work from. My notes file for my last fic was 30k words, almost all of which had been dictated. It's a lot. It might sound daunting.
But it was done while out for a walk or drive, so it felt easy and effortless. And then when it came time to actually write, I got 48,000 words of a first draft done in 8 days (about 15k of which was just copy pasted from the outline. The whole time it felt like cheating and using guidelines to write the actual story, but it was all my original work, just done at different times.
2.
Keep writing as an exciting treat rather than a chore.
I've started to create little writers retreats for myself. My friends and I rented an AirBnB for two nights this winter, where the entire goal was reading and writing. Sure there was sitting around the fire talking and eating good food, but we built it up so that the writing was the exciting part. It worked SO WELL. We did writing activities together too, not just staring at a word doc. We did character studies and made little AUs to imagine our characters in.
A friend and I took a six hour road trip for another writers retreat too. We spent the 12 hours (RT) in the car talking about our stories and characters. We'd started with dozens of prompts so we'd have enough material, and we never ran out. Then we took rest stops at gas stations and restaurants and did little 15 minute writing sprints. It really got me fired up. I wrote 6,000 words over the two days of that retreat!
Keeping writing fun can be big things (my sister and I did a writers retreat like that in Hawaii) or little things (I always treat myself to a donut and a coffee on Sunday mornings and then have a leisurely morning in the cafe writing).
I can't say if any of this will work for you, because I can't even say whether it'll still work for *me* in a few years. But I hope it's food for thought!
Anyway this is like one million words long so sorry about that, hope it was interesting.

model!hyunjin x photographer reader. mutual pining and tension and flirting. friends to lovers.

hyune gives me photoshoots and i give you brainrots in return it is the natural circle of life.. i hope you’ll enjoy this one too 🥹 feedback is highly appreciated as always <3
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Hyunjin’s eyes are piercing, locking onto your figure with an intensity that seems to capture you in place. He’s leaning casually against his sleek black car, one leg crossed before the other, arms folded over his chest, unmoving as the sound of your heels echoes against the cobblestone.
Instead, he tilts his head ever so slightly at your approach, his eyes tracing the contours of your silhouette, setting ablaze the scarlet fabric of your gown with their fervent scrutiny.
It was those very brown eyes you first noticed when Minho showed you Hyunjin’s portfolio. You now know that he is drowned in a sea of accolades regarding his physique— his sculpted proportions, the tantalizing curve of his lips and the seductive caress of his fingertips against them, and above all, his alluring aura and the way he works the camera as if it as an extension of his being.
But it is his eyes that have drawn you in first. Piercing, even through a stack of printed photographs in Minho's hands, burning through paper to ensnare your attention. Even more so, when these same eyes found you for the first time, in an outing your best friend Minho organized— an aspiring photographer shaking the hands of an established model, it was a match made in heaven, per se.
Though heaven was the last thing to grace your mind as you looked at Hyunjin, at the way he carried himself with a grace, and a slight cockiness that only comes from knowing your worth.
You caught his eyes multiple times across the dinner table, your knees grazing his underneath it. You returned home with his perfume imprinted into your skin from the lengthy hours you spent talking over drinks, long after Minho went home to his lover, and three cats. You knew then that Hyunjin could never be just a friend to you.
You are even more sure of it tonight, a fleeting four months later. Minho, the heir of your country’s biggest talent agency is hosting his parent’s annual party, gathering photographers, models, and artistic directors alike, a chance to network and score deals you wouldn’t find elsewhere.
Hyunjin insisted on picking you up.
You pause barely a few inches away from Hyunjin, close enough for him to behold the glitter gracing your eyelids, shimmering beneath the moonlight. Smelling his perfume feels like coming home, and you close yourself for a millisecond longer, allowing yourself the electrifying pleasure of being a mere breath away from him.
“Hello, love,” he speaks softly, and his words morph into invisible fingers trailing down your spine, igniting goosebumps in their trail. You’ve never gotten used to this nickname and the way it stumbles so easily from his lips, as if you could, one day indeed, be his love, a reality hovering just beyond your grasp.
“Hi, Hyunjin,” you smile and his placid facade cracks a little, a glint of a grin shimmering on his lips. He drinks you in, his scrutiny deliberate and unhurried, his gaze moving languidly across your form, flickering between all your features as if he beheld time between his palms, and all his seconds could be spent admiring you. It is only when he seems satiated does he speak again.
“You’re beautiful,” he says earnestly, and you don’t miss his choice of phrasing, you’re beautiful as opposed to you look beautiful, as though it matters not what you are clad in, but the fact that it is you wearing it.
Oftentimes, your compliments to him feel superfluous, your words faltering when you think of the many times Hyunjin must have heard the same adjectives describing him. Yet tonight, you cannot conjure a sarcastic retort to drown his sweet words, not before his ebony suit and the satin shirt peeking beneath it, worst of all, the delicate cascade of gold necklaces that glisten mockingly underneath the stars, taunting you, almost, for being able to graze Hyunjin’s skin when you cannot.
So, you settle for the truth.
“So are you.”
“Complimenting me quite easily tonight?” He smirks, and you respond with an exaggerated eye roll, leaning in closer.
“Forget it. You're actually insufferable.”
He mirrors your movement, drawing nearer until your breaths mingle in the space between you both. “I am actually very lovable, thank you very much.”
“Says who?” you challenge, a hint of defiance coloring your words. The kiss he imprints on the tip of your nose comes like clockwork at your words.
“You,” he grins, and you falter, caught off guard by the unexpected tenderness of his gesture. Heat rises to your face, a blush betraying your composure, even beneath your already pink-kissed cheeks, and you curse inwardly at your own vulnerability.
You hate him. You don’t think you’ve ever wanted to kiss someone this badly.
He observes your reaction with amusement, a knowing smile playing upon his lips as he taps the car door once before opening it for you. “After you, love.”
Stepping into the sports car feels like walking into Hyunjin’s essence— the rich cognac and oak notes ricocheting off the interior, the scarlet red cushions echoing the passion Hyunjin seems to carry within him.
And amidst the opulent interior, the small water lilies keychain you brought him seems almost out of place, as it dangles from the rearview mirror. Yet, it makes you feel as if part of you has intermingled with Hyunjin’s being, even in the most simplest of ways.
“Are you nervous?” Hyunjin asks ten minutes into your ride, his fingers drumming along the edge of the steering wheel. Your gaze drifts to the golden rings adorning his fingers, each one bearing the iconic emblem of Versace's Medusa. In another life, he could easily be their ambassador and muse.
Hyunjin’s eyes are piercing, not only because of the flames they dip your body in but also because of the gentle way they unravel your layers, understand your silences more than others grasp your words.
“I am. It’s my first time coming as a graduate, you know? What if I don’t leave a good impression on anyone?”
“Impossible.”
Had someone else uttered those words you would have been inclined to contradict them, but Hyunjin speaks with utmost certainty, as if his words are the only conceivable reply to yours.
“Okay.”
His fingers trail along the shell of your ear, delicately tucking a stray lock of hair behind it. The breaths in your chest ebb and flow more rapidly, you don’t know if it is from nerves or his touch.
“Inhale with me,” he instructs, and you follow his lead, synchronizing your breath with his. His hand glides down your jawline, a gentle caress that soothes your racing pulse. “Exhale,” he murmurs, and you release a breath you didn't realize you were holding, comforted by the weight of his touch.
You know the ghost of his fingertips will remain with you as the night wears on, a reminder that he is near, just around the corner, waiting for you to call him.
“You’ll do well, I’m sure of it.”
The gathering is held in a different location every year, and this time, Minho chose an intimate setting—a dimly lit hotel bar, graced by the warm glow of chandeliers suspended from the ceiling, brown leather seats surrounding glass tables, and extravagant flower arrangements.
For a split second, your back instinctively hunches, a reflexive response before this detailed showcase of luxury. But then you straighten your spine, comforted by the sound of your clicking heels against the polished floor, and Hyunjin's warm palm against your lower back.
You reach for a drink from a passing tray, the glass cool against your fingertips as you swirl the cocktail within. You take note of the numerous guests, as you cast a glance around the room, each one a titan in their creative field. Hyunjin stands at your side, his shoulder brushing against yours, as he too takes his time in assessing the room.
“Seems kind of boring,” Hyunjin remarks, his voice laced with a hint of disinterest as he leisurely sips his drink.
“Seems like your scene,” you tease, flashing him a playful grin, and he arches a brow in response.
“Oh yeah? And what is my scene?”
“An intimate setting with romantic lighting and jazz music,” you explain, taking a step closer and resting a hand delicately on his arm. “And some wine,” you add, though his attention is captivated by the movement of your shimmering lips as you speak. “And pretty people eyeing you all over the place.”
“Are they?” he counters, his hand sliding slowly to your waist, drawing you nearer with a subtle pull. “I only see you.”
“Really?” you challenge, trailing a finger tantalizingly slow along his jawline, “Then make sure your eyes never leave me throughout the night.”
His gaze remains fixed on your retreating form, a mixture of bewilderment and desire swirling in his eyes. He mutters a curse at the sight of your backless dress— it seems more than likely that you are a killer sent to end him by the end of the night.
It’s a few hours later, and Hyunjin has exhausted every social bone in his being, each interaction draining his reserves of charm and charisma. All he craves now is rest, and the comfort of his home—it turns out that, lately, it is more and more wherever you are, rather than the confines of his house.
He spots you sitting in a secluded corner, bathed in the soft glow of a solitary candle. A gentle smile graces his lips as he observes you, engrossed in nibbling at the snacks laid out before you.
Do you even realize how beautiful you are?
“You’re whipped,” Minho's voice interrupts his thoughts, Hyunjin does not contradict him.
“Is it that obvious?” he replies with a hint of amusement, his eyes never flickering away from your figure.
“You should see how you look at them.”
“Is it weird that everywhere we go, the world seems to narrow down to them alone?” he admits, a tinge of uncertainty coloring his words. The silence that follows from Minho makes a scorching heat creep up his neck, so he unbuttons his shirt for a bit of respite.
Minho shakes his head, a small giggle escaping his lips, before offering a reassuring clap on Hyunjin’s back. “I’ll see you around.”
Hyunjin quickly strides towards you, eager not to waste any seconds far from you, propelled by a longing that grips him like a second skin. He thinks you’re much closer to his heart than the necklaces brushing against his bare chest.
“Found you,” Hyunjin announces with a grin as he settles onto the couch across from you. Your body relaxes once you recognize him, your smile blooms akin to the first petals unfurling in spring.
“See, you didn’t look at me all night,” you pout teasingly and he chuckles, tipping his head back.
“I actually was. I was looking at you, through my heart.”
“How does that even work?”
He hesitates for a moment before his next words spill forth, unfiltered and raw. “I don't need to see you to know that you are near, I just feel it.”
A moment of silence hangs between you before you smile sheepishly, tilting your head to the side in wonder. “How was your night?”
“Productive but tiring, and you? he replies, his exhaustion momentarily forgotten in the warmth of your presence.
“I got a booking, a big one,” you announce with a grin, and his own smile mirrors yours instantly, his happiness following yours as if tethered by an invisible string.
“Really?”
“Yes, and I think I'll need your help. It needs to be in a bathtub and I know you are busy so it’s okay if—”
“I’m all yours,” he interrupts without hesitation, and you nod, heart swelling with gratitude.
It is quiet then, as you rest your head against the corner of the couch, and Hyunjin mirrors your gesture, his gaze never wavering from yours. The soft flicker of candlelight casts a warm glow upon his bare skin, the one unveiled by his unbuttoned shirt. And your mouth suddenly feels dry, and your heart suddenly aches, for him alone.
He brings his hand near his face, his rosy lips brushing against his knuckles, as your eyes trace the contours of his face— it seems to possess an otherworldly radiance, with dark locks cascading like silken strands, as if meticulously arranged by the hand of Aphrodite herself. Surely, she would adore him too, as would anyone who had the privilege of knowing him.
But you believe your adoration surpasses that of most.
“Thank you,” you whisper, your hand reaching out to rest delicately on his knee. “For finding me again.”
In response, his eyes soften, a gentleness that transcends mere words seeping into his gaze. He's no longer just around the corner; he’s right behind the door, both your hands poised on the doorknob. It is only a matter of time before one of you takes the plunge.
“Thank you for letting me find you.”

BG3 Fic Rec: A Halsin & Minthara Character Study
Tumblr media
For anyone who might be interested in an exceedingly thoughtful work that explores both Minthara and Halsin as the complex and wonderful characters they are, and how they might slowly, begrudgingly come to an understanding with one another, I cannot recommended @tavtime's Something Wicked This Way Comes highly enough.
The prose is beautiful and artful both, with some of the lines still stuck in my mind weeks on. The story is written entirely in Halsin's perspective, and, in my opinion, the author has captured the essence of him in a truly masterful way. His level of consideration, his thoughtfulness, the way he thinks through his actions and his intentions over leaping to a response. The rhythm of him is just perfect.
Minthara too is treated with all due complexity, as well as a surfeit of care and consideration for the things that drive her, how she connects to others, and what her story might look like as she progresses throughout canon and beyond. This work was a big part of what really made me appreciate these two as characters together, rather than as fundamentally opposed beings who might never find a common ground between them.
Summary:
There was a particular turn of phrase that came to him, considering her. He would wake with it on the tip of his tongue, although he dared not utter it in her presence. To speak it aloud would have been to acknowledge the silence between them, and what had beget it. But he thought it. Alone in the night with the hum of her, her cyclone-eye stilled fury and the ring of her blade in the dark, he thought it: Bad blood. ------ Halsin doesn't like Minthara. But he thinks maybe he understands her, which is arguably worse. (Character study for Halsin & Minthara's odd, combative relationship and the ways in which they are far more alike than different. To the constant annoyance of them both.)

my headcanon iterator designs! finally, in one place and rendered out nicely!!! get ready for the rambling under the cut i have many ideas
okay i love the simplistic design of rainworld creatures but i also love weird alien wacky designs so thats what i tried to go for here; a mix of strange alien bio-robots but aesthetically pleasing enough to look friendly. i think the iterator puppets arent the entirety of the iterator; they are also their can, of course, but the puppet is the "face" of the structure, as well as an important part of the biological aspect of iterators.
i think the puppets arent completely artificial. i think they are highly derived, highly modified purposed organisms made to fulfill a few requirements; be a friendly and relatable design for the citizens to be able to interact with the iterator, personify the iterator as a real living being and not just a box, and, most importantly, to house the biological brain that allows the supercomputer to be actually truly alive.
the brain inside the puppet is the part that gives the entire structure personality, intelligence, emotion, and everything else a biological brain can do that a computer cannot. almost the entirety of the brains ability to process information and think logically is outsourced to the structure via the umbilical wires. the neural cortex we see in game is the computer brain that is capable of all those calculations and simulations and all the amazing things iterators can. these two brains interact via the umbilical in a feedback loop of continuous information, working as one mind.
without the umbilical wire, the puppet is reduced to a normal beings brain; which is to say, they can speak and think, but lose access to their long term memory storage, their advanced logical processing power, and pretty much everything that makes them a god-like supercomputer. the only connection left in that case is through the neurons, which can interface between the puppet and structure as a lose tether of information(which is why moon is able to interact with her structure post rivulet even though the umbilical is still severed. the neurons each keep a copy of the iterators information to backup and pass though the structure, like a living usb, and moon can use them to access a smaller scale version of her former computational power).
the arm of the puppet acts both as a mobility device though low gravity and feeds nutrients to the puppet body as an outsourced digestive and circulatory system. the puppet itself does not have a complete digestive and circulatory system because of this.
i think the iterators should be like bugs, and so they are! they have a hard exoskeleton made of chitin and an open circulatory system. most of their interior is muscle and electronics to support the puppet's systems. various sensors to monitor health, gyroscopes to stay upright, electronics to read pearls and receive broadcasts (i think their antenna are both ears for sound and ears for electromagnetic waves). they have compound eyes for extremely good vision and a voice modulator allows them to speak.
one thing that always bothered me about the puppet design is that they have legs, and yet live in no gravity and are attached to a mobile arm. why would they need to walk? i decided that the people who built them decided to keep the legs for aesthetic reasons, but made them functionally useless. the legs are atrophied and could not actually support the puppet's weight. earlier generations, like moon, have more normal proportions and less atrophied legs; later generations get more and more stylized and streamlined, as we can see with pebble's more extreme proportions and extremely thin legs. you can also see a thick audio cable on the older models that pebbles doesnt have, and visible joints that are smoothly covered on pebbles.
the production of iterators may have been somewhat standardized, but we do know that different iterators can have different designs based on their creators taste. frankly, i love headcanoning NSH as being big and chunky while pebbles is a little twig. i plan to draw my interpretations for suns, inno, and wind too in the future.
so, yea! puppets! theyre fucked up and would struggle to survive detached from their structure completely because they are pugs and cannot survive outside of their domesticated lives.

I live under a rock and didn't even know about the acid rain thing in other regions until now.
(Ooc: summary of what I missed? Please?)
Hold onto you hat anon - so much has happened.
It began with Team Snagem - @teamsnagemofficial - oozing out of the woodwork so to speak. They had pokeballs that could steal pokemon from others - and they were targeting Leauge Trainers to turn their ace pokemon into shadow pokemon.
This escalated over the course of a month - although recruitment was likely happening long before. Myself and a few other trainers were working to get to the bottom of it. A few notable ones are @leaguetraining, @skygodtraumabond, @aura-acolyte , @the-koiking-pond , @prof-hemp420 , @teamgamble and @prestigepreceptcenterpregym. I would reccomend scrolling through the tags #team snagem shadow sky #team snagem and #team snagem finale.
In the end it was revealed that @ariadosanon was the leader of Snagem- and had kidnapped Ho Oh to turn it into XD002. There was a lot of scrambling on our end to try and find Ho Oh (at this point we didn't know that Victoria was responsible) but in the end she posted an ultimatum, which you can read here. She then released "Shadow Sky"; an acid-like rain that melted people and pokemon and seems to have corrupted other into permenant new forms? We are still working on understanding this new phenomena.
Either way this shadow rain was released twice. The first time was on Hoenn but the second... she had people vote over it and attacked the region with lower votes. That ended up being Sinnoh. Victoria herself even showed up and almost killed Ray and myself at the Sky Pillar. People who helped with the recovery effort included @professor-amaryllis , @iheartnimbassacity , @alexanders-pokemon-adventure , @meganiums-petals-pokemon-shelter , @caoimhe-from-hoenn and many others, who I cannot thank enough.
In the end Victoria didn't receive her demands and attacked the Johto/Kanto Leauge as a show of strength. Myself and a group of trainers confronted her and through a combination of brute strength and quick thinking we managed to liberate Ho Oh and arrest Victoria. For posts related to that see #shadow sky finale.
... We lost some pokemon along the way and quite a few of us were badly injured. We are in the process of dealing with the aftermath - Victoria's transport ship crashed and she had escaped to somewhere, I am dealing with legal issues, Ray is ... affected... by their close call with death, Amy is being a wonderful support to all of us but really needs to take care of themselves... We are all adjusting to the new normal. (#shadow sky epilouge)
If you live in Hoenn or Sinnoh at the moment, don't drink the water from the tap. There are handouts of bottled water that will continue until soil and water quality improves. If you see any strangely aggressive pokemon, or pokemon with strange colorations please report them to your local Ranger Base.
(Ooc: This is a very basic summary, I highly reccomend scrolling through some of the blogs i mentioned and looking at the tags. This whole event was organized by @ariadosanon and they did a great job! I had a blast, and am gonna post a suprise when I get around to finishing it)

Fic Rec Friday 6/16/2023
Title: The Best Part of Me is That I’m the B-Side to You
Rating: Explicit
Archive Warning: Graphic Depictions Of Violence
Category: M/M
Fandom: Stranger Things (TV 2016)
Relationship: Steve Harrington/Eddie Munson
Characters: Steve Harrington, Eddie Munson, And ensemble
Additional Tags: Hurt and comfort, Angst, Established Relationship, kind of, Fix-It, not a slow burn we burn fast like cheap cigarettes, [magnolia park's "i'm back on my bullshit" plays in the background]
Summary: Maybe it was too early to say that. Maybe it was too early to say Steve was in love. He usually fell hard. He thought he was in love with Nancy Wheeler. He fell hard for her too.
But Eddie Munson?
Eddie Munson is intoxicating.
----
AKA the one where Steve and Eddie have been dating Eddie's entire senior year.
———
*heavy breathing*
Okay. So. This one is a bit of a doozy for me. I hope the 80k isn’t too intimidating for you - if it is, I get it - because holy shit I cannot recommend it enough. You know a fic is fucking good when you read it once and immediately resign yourself to never reading it again because it’s just… too much. That was me months ago when I first read this. The very thought brought me to tears. And if that wasn’t enough, I couldn’t listen to Head Over Heels again until like a week or two ago, lol. And now I’ll have to wait months and months again before I can listen to it without immediately tearing up. The power of incredible writing.
This is probably (definitely) my favorite of the ‘Steve and Eddie are secretly dating’ subgenre of Steddie fics. As well as my favorite ‘Eddie and Steve knew each other while Steve worked at Scoops’ story. They’re both very niche genres, of course. So much of this fic has kind of wormed itself into my brain and my own headcanons that re-reading it for this rec was an eye-opening experience. “Wait, that was from this? I thought I made that up!”
I never would have thought that a substitute phrase for I Love You could make me tear up, but dammit, if I even slightly think of the words “I’m forever yours,” I’m gone. In tears as we speak. With that out of the way, yes - I cried again while re-reading it. Not as much as I did the first time, mind you, but yeah. Y’all know me; I am as soft as a gently baked batch of cookies.
To summarize: cute boys being cute together and almost dying makes Roosterbox cry like a baby, lol.
Highly, highly recommended.
Important side note: No link, except to the login page. The writer has locked the fic for the time being. Not gonna complain or judge them for it (if they’re reading this, I understand - you do what you feel you must), just FYI. You can still find it if you have an Ao3 account.
———
Next Week: Okay guys, I’m gonna level with you. I think it’s time to dive headfirst into one of my favorite fic tropes. One that a loooooot of people aren’t into. For various reasons. And I get it. I do, I swear I do. But you know… it’s always been one of my comfort tropes. I am, of course, talking about the M word. Mpreg. And it’s my favorite type of Mpreg story: one where it isn’t explained. Is it ABO? Maybe but probably not. Is the guy trans? Maybe. Is it just that men can get pregnant in this universe? Maaaaaaaybe. Draw your own conclusions and/or have your own headcanon. Just enjoy the ride.
Oh, and it’s Arthur/Eames by the way. Figured that was important to mention.
Until next week, darlings ❤️

X: Speaking very briefly and very generally on the overall state of bionic and non-bionic limb prosthesics within Hades.
Context to start with: around 4.5% of the total population possess limb prosthetics of some kind- quite high compared to the conditions of the Triskelion and even compared to pre-Exodus countries of means. Of those, nearly 70% are civilian-grade prosthetics used to aid those who have lost limbs from accidents or disease- the former occuring mostly in the dangerous conditions of the mining cities, Taros and Dis, and the latter most commonly being the result of severe frostbite during scheduled powerouts. The remaining 30% consist of combat-grade prostheses.
Civilian-grade prosthetics vary wildly in quality and make. Most health insurance plans only cover body-powered, socketed models, which require less upkeep but cause more discomfort and provide much less feedback compared to the pricier and more heavily integrated bionic models. In either case, they are at best able to match the needs of the lost functions, but cannot outperform them.
Combat-grade prosthetics, by comparison, are always of high-quality (relatively speaking) bionic make. They are inelegant and bulky by our standards, and the strain they cause on a human body is not inconsiderable. However, their power output rivals or somewhat exceeds the capacity of a about half of our crew and allows for rapid weapon deployment besides.
These, by contrast to civilian models, are typically installed not as the consequence of injury but as demanded by the contract an elite mercenary, or very rarely a police officer, has signed. Although the augmentation process "only" replaces the limbs and reinforces the spinal column, the soldier is thereafter considered entirely company or government property.
That is, incidentally, the cover that Uniform and Victor are using. They are considered to be highly advanced prototype cyborgs built by the CEO personally- almost all of their organic components entirely replaced save for a few essential organs. From my understanding of the situation, which I am thankfully quite distant from most of the time, it is being tepidly tolerated by existing officers that as the most indentured they are also being groomed for the highest levels of command.
This is also largely not touching on other forms of prosthetics for other bones or organs, nor on the more superficial cybernetic implants that exist to allow control of machinery or powered armor suits. Neither can I get into with enough brevity the extent of suffering which those who break their contracts or fail to make their loans face from repossession.
I am still very new to this city and have not established enough experience with it to hold any sway over its workings, but I am heavily considering taking leave when I can to visit Asphos the Seventh, where most prostheses and medicines are being developed. I do not consider myself a being inclined to politics, but theirs heavily impacts people across the entirety of Hades and may be worth...investigation, I suppose.

Submitted some guys to the toxic oc ship tournament
Harry murdered his parents when he was ten, because he had the thought that he probably could and could get away with it, so he wanted to test this. He was correct, and the resulting chain of events (and murders) was what eventually drew the immortal witch queen with a goddess complex's attention to him, because she's always on the lookout for these sorts of kids that she can groom into serving her. Then she actually got to know him and was like "oh he's already fucked up, I don't actually have to do any work here". She has been holding him back most of his adult life because he only kills people when she tells him to and that is definitely a step up from how he was before she got him, when he killed people just cause he felt like it and wanted to see what would happen.
He can crawl on ceilings and he loves to do this and sometimes he does it to annoy the rich manbrat that the Queen keeps around to run their social media accounts because tormenting Lyall Knox is his third favorite passtime, after serving his Queen and fucking Vincent on every available surface in the tower until the Queen needs a break and calls in a cleaning crew to hose everything down and she orders them not to touch each other again until she says otherwise, which he's always obedient about because he will do anything she tells him to. Poor Vince getting cucked by his cult leader. He deserves it he's terrible.
They, alongside the guy who can turn into a dire wolf, raised the changeling cyborg and the fear projection girl, and were terrible guardians. After the kids get free they talk about him clinging to their ceiling to watch them sleep (and is the reason they sleep in shifts, and share a bed) and while they never get explicit, they will sometimes refer to him wanting to "play" with them which implies some kind of game where torture was the prize.
Once took the last pudding cup so one of his coworkers glued him to the ceiling and it's implied he got down by simply peeling off the skin where it was stuck.
Wants to be stuffed and mounted and displayed in his Queen's Gallery of Former Minions upon his death.
Vincent calls him "Darling" and "Darling Harry" and "My Darling".
Speaking of Vincent! The cyborg boy I mentioned? One of only two people who have ever successfully had that process done on them. The other is the aforementioned uncle; Vincent was on the team that did it and it was highly experimental and only succeeded because of the healing magic that his friend gave him that kept him alive after most of his body was crushed. In THIS case it was because the fairy boy's 'old man' had tried to cure of him of his iron weakness by what we will delicately call 'exposure therapy' and caused his organs to start shutting down and some of his limbs to atrophy. Vincent saved his life, but only because his Queen had plans for him and would be mad if he died. But also because he wanted the chance to study changeling organs, so after he replaced the ones that he needed to, he kept the old ones so he could study them. So somewhere in the tower there's just a fridge with this kid's old organs and limbs in it.
I cannot stress hard enough that everyone's assumption about Vincent gaslight gatekeep girlbossing Harry into being his human guinea pig WAS ACTUALLY HIS PLAN. This is not a case of him getting accused of something he wouldn't do, he WOULD and WAS GOING TO, it just wasn't NECESSARY because he was ALREADY LIKE THAT.
But also. I want to make this clear. They are in love of one another. Vincent would burn the world to the ground to make Harry happy. Harry would kill for Vincent, or more importantly he would NOT kill, if you catch my meaning. He would do anything short of betraying his Queen for Vincent. They love each other so much.
1o. Another of Harry's modifications is the ability to purr, which he got just so Vincent could hold him and pet him and he could purr about it. Also sometimes they fuck on the ceiling. Vincent always gets lightheaded from the bloodrush from being upside down, but anything to indulge his darling.

Whumptober Sneak Peek!
I've been planning this project for several months now, and I've been outlining a plot to go along with whumptober prompts since they were released. I'm so so excited to be writing in a completely different genre (sci-fi/cyberpunk) and even if I don't manage to post every day in October, I'm hopeful that I'll be able to get everything out there eventually! (fingers crossed). I've put a prologue/preview under the cut, and if you're interested in seeing more and want to be on a tag list when October comes around, just let me know! I can't wait! :)
No major warnings for this one.
-----------------
> Project Echolocation // Report #1
> Agent 2374 // status>unspecified // location>confidential
My first three days have been largely uneventful. My initial ‘induction’ consisted of various background checks and security screenings. I have been told that I will not be permitted to access any resources or information above public access until I pass each individual screening. They are consistently paranoid, if nothing else. I am confident they will not overturn anything of note; from what I have seen of their technology, they only have the capability to scratch the surface. Perhaps the screenings will become more extensive when I progress further into their ranks.
As of writing this report, the highest-ranking member of this organization that I have made contact with is a level-3 man known only as ‘Grim’. He seems to be nothing more than a lackey, one of the many level-3s in charge of keeping an eye on new recruits and showing them their place. He is followed around by another man, ‘Sol’, who I have yet to learn the rank of – likely another level-3. Sol seems even less a threat than Grim, as Sol is a mute who cannot speak to anyone not fluent in sign without Grim’s assistance. This is probably why the two are inseparable.
I have yet to be assigned a sector. Once I am, I hope to advance quickly to a level-2. I have glimpsed the ‘Leader’ once, and only briefly. My only information about any of the inner circle comes from chattering I hear among level-1s and 2s. It is largely inane gossip. Everything I hear about the Speaker is contradictory and unsubstantial. I can confirm our original suspicions that it will take a long time for me to complete our objective. Nevertheless, I am confident that we will reach the end goal in time.
<End Report>
-----------
> New Recruit 5579 // Progress Report #1
> Grim (Sol assist)
The new recruit goes by ‘Cent’ – no last name provided. So far, he seems like a decent guy. Friendly enough, though a bit wary of everyone around him. I don’t like the way he was treating Sol - I don’t expect anyone reading this report to think I’m not overreacting, but I’ll say it anyway. He’s dismissive and rude and downright pretentious whenever he’s around Sol. Acts like Sol doesn’t even exist. But hey, maybe that’ll change. Don’t ever say I didn’t give anyone the benefit of the doubt. Cent does seem like a genuine person, so there’s that. He just has some issues to work through.
I’d recommend him for the tech sector; I saw how he acted during his screenings, and he seems highly experienced. Possibly a bit too experienced; I would advise high surveillance and additional screenings before moving him to a level-2. Don’t let him work tech alone.
<End Report>
-----------
> New Recruit 5579 // Progress Report #1
> Sol (Grim assist)
The new recruit, ‘Cent’, is a self-absorbed prick who can’t be bothered to see past the end of his own nose. His name certainly fits him because he isn’t worth jack shit. I have some questions for whoever let him past the front gates, because they clearly weren’t paying attention. If it were up to me, I would lock him as a level-one at most, and that’s being generous. I don’t know if he’s an infiltrator of if he’s just fucking annoying but frankly, I don’t care. Don’t let him anywhere near the tech sector unless you want to get hacked or have your funds drained or be hit with a virus, or all of the above. He definitely knows his way around tech, and I do not mean that as a compliment.
Grim is reading this over my shoulder and says I’m being too harsh. Yes, Grim, I am aware that I’ve only spent three days around the man, and that was more than enough, thank you. If you insist on keeping Cent around, at the very least don’t let him past level-2. Just keep him away from me.
<End Report>

So just clarifying. Do you believe that humans without extraterrestrial influence would be much hairier? Are these ETs benevolent, malicious, or neither? My guess is that humans back then were more social and much more pack-oriented, but probably less intelligent, and the ETs gave us some of their intelligence, but in exchange made us more cold and individualistic. So now we, the hybrids, are smarter but less socially healthy. What are your thoughts on this? What are their goals?
The Modern Human Species as an Antisocial Hybrid
Thanks for this very interesting question and thoughts! I know this all seems ridiculous and far-fetched to most, but there is plenty of serious evidence that extraterrestrial contact existed on Earth thousands of years ago. In the German-speaking world, pretty much everyone knows Erich von Däniken, who popularized the term preastronautics. He asks very simple questions and looks at archaeological finds differently from historians.
So whether the fire of civilization actually arose on Earth by itself or was brought from outside is a very contentious question. Personally, I am convinced that our civilization's origins are extraterrestrial because so much evidence of their influence is reflected in the remnants of antiquity. The Austrian Klaus Dona has spent his life collecting ancient artefacts from around the world, for example highly fine instruments that one would otherwise only expect from a modern genetics laboratory; with illustrations of DNA on vessels and references to extensive knowledge of human biology. He also acquired bones from humans twice or treble the size of modern humans; For example, by Native Americans who keep such bones of prehistoric giants in their tribes as artifacts.
In the past, animal species were generally significantly larger on earth. This may be because gravity used to be lower or there was more oxygen in the atmosphere. The dates of several hundred million years in the official teaching on the history of the earth should also be viewed very critically. It really annoys me that these theories are treated as fact today, as if we know exactly what the world was like a million years ago! Personally, I think that the time intervals are much shorter and that evolution as a whole takes much less time and works more in batches as soon as circumstances change enough for new adaptations to take place. I can also imagine, for example, that dinosaurs and modern or prehistoric humans coexisted, giving rise to legends of dragons, before humans wiped out the rest of these giant reptiles; just like the first people on New Zealand, the Maori, wiped out the giant New Zealand bird, which also ate humans, through constant hunting.
So what sets the human species above the animal kingdom is its ability to do things that animals cannot do. Above all, this includes the ability to speak. No animal relative of humans has neither the organs nor the predisposition to do so! that's not to say that great apes don't demonstrate complex communication; but apart from a few sounds, they communicate mostly through their gestures and other things. A highly complex language with abstract concepts is therefore impossible for them to access. For example, while chimpanzees and gorillas can be taught the meaning of human words, they are unable to reproduce them or guess the meaning of compound words.
I recently read something about the aquatic ape hypothesis, according to which humans descended from primarily aquatic apes, which facilitated upright walking and caused the loss of hair. The rudimentary webs between the fingers and toes in humans, or the diving reflex, for example, should point to this lineage. I am not very convinced of this theory, but it does show that there is no general consensus even in the official discourse on evolution and that there are still many open questions to be clarified. For example, the evidence cited for this early aquatic ancestry could also be interpreted as the vestiges of a reptilian alien race in human physiology, although this is very mind-blowing.
I think the humanoid body shape is very universal in the cosmos. One will find similar beings on innumerable planets: a torso, two legs for locomotion, an upright walk leading to two free arms for tools, a head as the central control and main organ for consciousness. That just seems the most ideal. Four legs or arms are certainly a nice to have in practice, but not really useful, so that you will not find any mammal on earth with more than 4 limbs (apart from malformations). If an alien species interfered with the evolution of modern humans' terrestrial ancestors, then they must be incredibly ancient in their lineage, since their physiology visibly supersedes that of the original ape-men. In any case, this physiological dominance cannot be explained genetically, since we share 98% of the same genes with pigs, for example.
It was therefore enough that just a few grains of their genetics were crossed into us to create a morphogenetic connection accelerating the evolution of the great apes and blessing some of them with speaking organs, thereby enabling entirely new and higher forms of communication that are less intuitive, but more knowledge-based. This alienated our earthy ancestors from nature and brought them from an animal-like way of life to a civilized one. Next to the organ of speech, the loss of fur is another testament to this: as we can no longer survive in the wild without clothing and warm shelter, ultimately without technology, albeit primitive.
Is this human development good or bad? It was certainly not good for the nature of this planet, given the many animal species that have been wiped out by humans and the pollution that has been committed. But these sacrifices must have been made to create new conscious life. So I could think of one motivation for those aliens, through this hybridization, to encourage the mental spread of their own kind: It's not so much about biological reproduction as mentally spreading the spark to conscious sophisticated life. Perhaps also with the intention of creating as many conscious species as possible, to be able to reincarnate in another species if necessary; a non-species backup so to speak.
The question of whether the aliens we are related to are good or evil is a bit silly, since they appear as creators. They are not gods but they spread the higher creation in universe by planting higher life. In addition, they are technologically tens of thousands of years ahead of us and may live in a space that we are far from comprehending. So they don't need to appear "bad" towards us, for example by coveting something material that we have. Even Earth is not unique at all; especially since they possess technologies to instantaneously travel from one planet to any other in universe.
There are certainly highly evolved alien species that are also capable of projecting through transspace, but have low moral standards that make them place little value in the lives of others. For instance, there are very rare cases of UFO encounters where people have been exposed to lethal radiation as yet unknown to us. There are also observations that years later the earth still appears dead at the places where such alien flying objects landed. It is also striking that in many UFO abductions gametes are removed as if humans were merely incubators for sperm and egg cells. Illobrand von Ludwiger thinks it is also conceivable that they are time-traveling humans from the future who need "still healthy genetic material". I myself am not at all convinced of the idea of time travel in the naive science fiction sense, but think that it could just as easily be more developed people from other planets, or organizations from Earth who, for whatever reason, collect germ cells from us. While no one is killed or seriously injured, these involuntary kidnappings can still be considered a crime.
We still remain sort of talking gorillas
In fact, there are several senior officials reporting an intergalactic federation and urging governments to finally speak openly and honestly about extraterrestrials, also on unofficial contacts with them. I can imagine that Earth is treated as a kind of "protected planet" where others are strictly forbidden to interfere directly, so as not to disturb our own development. According to the physicist and UFO researcher Illobrand von Ludwiger, who is networked worldwide, an average of around 100 extraterrestrial flying objects land on earth every month, with very different shapes. We can therefore assume that there are very many highly developed alien species that are in contact with one another and, similar to the way humans on Earth maintain diplomatic relations, may also form higher political units.
We may even be related to most of these alien species, since in ancient times those bringers of civilization immortalized themselves on many worlds, not just on Earth. Some species developed faster than others technologically, but came into conflict with each other just like humans on Earth, so that, for example, in the 16th century an air battle between numerous flying objects took place over Nuremberg before they "dissolved smoking".
I think we can compare the situation a little with that of the native peoples on Earth: indigenous people without higher technology, living on economically uninteresting islands, occasionally see airplanes from afar, which appear as strange streaks of smoke in the sky. But there is no official contact because they don't have the possibility to leave their island and we have no interest in communicating with them, apart from a few researchers for andropological studies. To be more specific: What would you like to talk to members of these primitive peoples about? They basically don't understand anything you're saying because they have no relation to your modern life: football, soaps, cool cars, your job as a salesman in a store? You just appear to them as a stranger in bizarre clothing with inexplicable objects on you. That's all. Exactly in this way it behaves between the terrestrial humans and highly developed occupants of those flying objects above our heads, which regularly suddenly appear in the earth's orbit or atmosphere.
It is only in the last two centuries that these barriers, technologically but also mentally, are gradually diminishing in our imagination that we are at least able to somehow comprehend those visitors and not misinterpret them as "gods"; while animals perceive both us and those extraterrestrial visitors only instinctively at best, either as passing food or as a threat. The fact that the terrestrial military likes to shoot at such UFOs immediately shows that we behave little differently than vicious wild animals instead of seeking a peaceful first contact as in Star Trek.

Headcanons for The Gman under the cut since it's not story enough for my AO3 but way too weird for my main blog
Half Life
•Uses he/him pronouns.
•Cold-blooded
•Completely blind in human terms. He navigates through infrared detection using pit organs in his mouth. His non-human form doesnt have eyes and the pit organs are external. This explains why he is never quite looking at you in HL:A and why his eyes never seem right in the other entries. He just doesn't have the need to focus them. This might also explain why he sounds out of breath so often, as inhaling through his mouth would give him a better sense on where someone/something is than his nostrils. He would have a pretty clear idea where Gordon or Alyx were at all times due to the fact that Gordon's a walking microwave and Alyx is probably irradiated. In terms of living by himself in human society he would probably need extra assistance via a cane/braille/etc
•His eyes aren't useless, though. He uses them to get into humans' minds for hypnosis, illusions and various manipulative purposes.
•Probably also has a sense of electroreception considering the fact his species are all cold-blooded, they'd have to be able to see each other without body temperature. Maybe they can communicate where they are verbally/telepathically
•His true form cannot be perceived by most Earth species. Because of this he can shapeshift alongside his mind manipulatory stuff
•His way of speaking could also be chalked down to the infrared/heat pits mentioned above. However its more likely that he just isn't used to vocalizing like that
•Doesn't understand the concept of human sexualities he actually couldn't care less (he's pan)
•Had trouble acclimating to the pressure and air composition on Earth, and still gets sick from long or repeated visits.
•He can manipulate light to some degree
•Doesn't have to eat as often as the average human, but needs more protein intake than such a diet would allow. His species are purely carnivorous
•Zero sleep schedule. He just sleeps when he gets tired. Probably sleeps a stupid amount like a cat
•Actually really baby crazy, be the baby human or whatever alien Gman is. He hasn't had any of his own so he often helps his kind watch over new litters whenever they arrive
•I'm not getting into anything nsfw that's AO3's job
•He has the outward appearance of a human but still has the innards of whatever alien he is
•He made Gordon listen to Talking Heads for 20 years in stasis no I will not elaborate
Hlvrai
•Uses they/them pronouns.
•The reason Tommy says he's an orphan is because Gman never officially adopted him. Gman found Tommy as a child, abandoned. They had just begun infiltrating the human race so they had no clue what adoption papers were. They thought you could just claim children as your own if they didn't have parents. That's how it would work logically. Somehow this didn't hinder Tommy from going to school or college. Tommy calls Gman his dad but doesn't actually recognize them as a parental figure because it was never officialized and Tommy is very serious about policies (My more serious HC on why Tommy says he's an orphan is because he didn't want to freak Gordon out by telling him his dad is some omnipotent eldritch alien, or Tommy legitimately didn't know about them)
•They are more integrated into human society and understands sexuality. They identify as bi with a male leaning.
•Didn't have an official last name before Tommy showed up so they let Tommy choose it. They answer to any name that'd vaguely fit a middle-aged man (Garry, Greg, Jim, etc) because they don't have one in an Earth language
•I've drawn this one but I'll mention it again. Gman (and by extension Tommy, if they're blood related) subsists off of glucose alone, like a hummingbird. That's why Tommy says he sees faster after he drinks soda
•Benrey is partially the same species of alien that Gman is but his geneology is mixed with other sentient aliens (from Zen specifically)
•Gman was highly involved with Bubby's creation, often coming in to see how things were coming along (and was tasked with disposing of the failed prototypes)
•Gman got along well with Coomer and Bubby before ResCas

Hello! I am an aspiring graduate student, possibly going into a post doc. I love writing fanfic, yet I feel like I must focus on academic writing.
How do you reconcile both styles?
i'm interpreting this question in two different ways. let me speak to both of them. but also know that i am extremely biased--academic writing torments me. i have nothing positive to say about it. this is long, so here's a cut.
one: there is no need to reconcile both styles. you can keep the creativity out of academic writing, and, in many cases, it's necessary to do so. do not think of your academic writings as works of art. think of them as a means to an end. you just need to fulfill a set of requirements. you just need to get a grade. you just need to make a point. they can be soulless. it's alright if they are.
however. you can be creative if it's appropriate, if it makes you feel better to do so. here's the introduction to a paper i wrote last term. you'll see what i mean:
To be human is to tell stories. For as long as we have had minds to think and mouths to speak with, we have been weaving tales about ourselves, our ancestors, about how to explain the way the world works around us. People have been using art, for perhaps almost just as long, to grapple with the pain that comes as a part of living. From J. R. R. Tolkien conjuring a literary marvel out of the horrors he endured in WWI to a teenage girl scribbling angry poetry in detention, creative writing has become a way for us to cope and overcome. It is only natural that it could also be used as a therapeutic tool to process trauma.
this is not my best work. frankly, i don't care that it isn't. it just made me feel a little bit better to write this way. it gave me the relief of that little creative spark while i wrote something that i have to turn my brain off in order to cope. sometimes that's all it has to be. but my professors probably liked it. i got 100% on this paper.
you can grow as a writer through academic writing. it will teach you how to organize your thoughts and present ideas clearly. it will teach you how to convince and how to be concise. but, again, i say: your writing does not have to be a masterpiece. do not hold it to the same standard as the work that you are passionate about. but if you are, perhaps, passionate about academic writing, go ahead and give it that treatment. i'm not, so i won't. i'll cry about an assignment and grit my teeth through the whole thing. that's okay, too. it gets it done.
lastly, my first draft is my final. i run it through grammarly and then hit that submit button. if you have been writing, in any capacity, for a long time, you can probably do this, too. you'll have the foundational skills down, and you can be adequate, or even above adequate, in anything you write with little effort. you can also use your creative process in academic writing. if you outline, you can outline. if you pants, go ahead and do it here, too. use your editing practices. don't reinvent the wheel.
all in all, your professors are not expecting beauty. they just want you to follow their rubric. toss your work into the ether, get the grade, and then forget about it.
two: i'm not sure that this is what you were asking, but i thought i'd talk about it, too, briefly. how can you continue to pursue your creative endeavors while also in school?
believe it or not, you can. it just takes a lot of sacrifice. i'm in school, i work a highly, highly stressful job, and yet, just about every night i sit down and write. but i also have no social life. absolutely none. that's my sacrifice. but it does not feel much like a sacrifice because i need to write. i cannot live without it. it's the only thing i do that makes me feel like i can actually get through my days.
if there's a will, there's also a way. if writing is important enough to you, you will find a way to do it at any cost.
but even if you love writing with the whole of your heart, do not feel badly if you just can't swing it while you're in school, or when you're enduring another stressful time of life. it's okay. it'll be there for you again when you're ready. you're always a writer, even when you're not writing.
hopefully this helped in any small way. but i'm not really in the best place right now, being bitter and resentful toward academia. take it all with a grain of salt.

GLADWYN GRIFFIN - "GLADIATOR GRENADE" PROSECUTOR
Same thing with Bernie, he's been here for a year! But he's actually been here longer... For the sake of avoiding spoilers, when the mod gets made, avoid from posting his backstory on the wiki page.
Tumblr media
This is old art... really old art so please don't judge it too much--
Also the version where he doesn't have his cape is no longer accurate, it's going to be changed in the next reference.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Made a year ago. So it's bad. Will possibly remake soon.
Details about him below. Some things may not be included from my oc book on wattpad due to this being a summarization. PS, several descriptions have been changed, and might be changed on my wattpad to be more accurate. Some more artpieces of Gladdy will be shared for accuracy.
Also if you can’t tell, he has calves bigger than his thighs. Yum yum!
✦✦✦✦
Gladwyn "Gladdy" Griffin. - Possible Bomb Species, Prosecutor.
✦✦✦✦
Cheerful, Outgoing, Young, Vibrant, and Powerful--- all of these adjectives have been used by both the press and the public do describe him. He wears his heart on his sleeve and is not afraid to show it, and is never afraid to speak his mind.
He has as much fans as he does naysayers--- due to his highly dramatic nature, harassment of attorneys, and utterly cruel way of pounding the opponent down into a purple pulp, he's often misunderstood.
I wonder if the face he shows is genuine.
✦✦✦✦
21 years old and single! However, he's not often pining for the opposite gender mostly, but rather those that are men. Fuchsia Mizzta could be a small exception to this, but that was only a rumor I popped in my mouth off the grapevine. Also, yes, he is also male.
✦✦✦✦
His species is completely unknown. Some theorize him to be a mutant stickman with smooth skin and a borderline metallic head, however he has not proved any theories due to them being personal questions. Sorry for those looking for info.
✦✦✦✦
His in-game voice is planned to sound almost like Sans's talking sfx, but harsher and more snappy. However, I've also wanted him to have a voice similar to Julian but more controlled, grittier, and ''electrical''.
✦✦✦✦
He can speak English, Russian, and Spanish (Possibly Japanese too if the mod even has a chance to get localized lol). Russian from his father, some Spanish from when he went to a different state/prefecture.
✦✦✦✦
He has a preference of Boyfriend, Burgers, Takoyaki, Working out at the gym, Thunder (Used to love it, but due to Boyfriend's astraphobia, he only likes it somewhat), Chess, Gaming [JRPG, Fighting Games] (No more gambling), and Yakisoba. Wanna know his workout routine? Or just wanna gawk at him? I'll tell you his social media soon~ (lie)
✦✦✦✦
He has a distaste for Gloomy things, Drugs, Exploding (Hates more than anything... and yet teases it whenever a lawyer pisses him off), Hurting People, Alcohol, Fires, Illogical Thinking, and Hibiscus Flowers. Please don't give him a hibiscus flower as a present... It, er, bothers him a lot.
✦✦✦✦
BDAY? June 21st, Summer Solstice for the US. He really is hot hot HOT!
✦✦✦✦
Edgy backstory sad story will make you cry
A normal child born into a normal family in a normal, peaceful village, where he'd live for the rest of his life. A life he never got as he was given away to an illegal biologist organization, and was experimented on heavily. Strangely enough, no matter how hard he tries, he cannot remember a single experiment, except for when they had implemented electricity within his body, and made it stable. It was "beyond all things painful".
After months of experimentation, he would become a deadly force of artificial nature, and could be used against any foolish country that had dared to against their's... Is what they hoped, instead they had gotten a weakling "prototype" youkai, and tossed him away like his parents did over to a black market in the middle in Nowheresville.
He was capable of permanently shocking somebody and giving them permanent damage, but only in a moderately-sized room scale. His blasts rarely ever kill however.
He was sold about a week after he was abandoned, and was bought by his step-mother. She brought him back to her "home" located deep within in the city's sleeves, where she raised him poorly.
He resents her and all that she loves, from hibiscus flowers to black snakes and sitcoms for all her lashing episodes, and all those thrown objects... especially the knife, the pan, the cutlery... He was weak, beaten, and mute in those days, but eventually after days of hyping himself up, he told himself to hate his mother.
It was then at his truly vulnerable moment that he had met the whimsical but hardy Boyfriend in a valley he had managed to run all the way too. There, he met Boyfriend every single day to escape from his step-mother; they'd play games, they'd sing together, and they'd adventure across the valley together.
They'd even have a 'honeymoon' (as described by Gladwyn) within various shops, libraries, restaurants, and maybe even with a few friends such as Effy's siblings or fellow classmates, but during all those moments, he never took his eyes off of Effy.
His step-mother was then caught by lawyers Alyosha (Al-YAW-sha) and Bernice Griffin, for reasons unrelated to abuse. They soon adopted thereafter because they "loved" him, when he suspects that they only pitied him.
His new stepmother and stepfather ended up being his inspiration in becoming a prosecutor... But not entirely, as Boyfriend had suggested the profession.
It was too late though, and he could never connect to them. Or at least that's what he said, when in reality, they just weren't there for him enough.
He made many friends in both high school and in his 9th year (8th grade), his best friends being Bernard, Boyfriend, and a few other sporty kids.
During the last day of school for their 13th year, the three snuck in the class they shared together, and talked about all the ups and downs and twists and turns their high school story was like, until... something terrible happens, causing a huge gap between Bernard and Gladwyn, and the two hope to never see each other again.
Gladwyn flies to another state/prefecture in hopes of never meeting Bernard again, and begins studying for law there. He cuts ties with Bernard completely, but texts and calls Boyfriend almost every single day with face time commonly used.
One day, a year after they had seperated, the three meet again in person to fight in a case that would change their lives forever.
TLDR V:
He was given away to a group of illegal biologists as a baby, and was experimented for several months, before he came out as a disappointing prototype. He was then sold on the blackmarket to his stepmother, whom he heavily resented, along with her hibiscus hair accessory, due to her abuse, negligence, and the scars she caused on the top of his feet. He meets Boyfriend one day in a green valley while running away from home and has fun with him every single day in the valley. His stepmother is caught for reasons unrelated to abuse, and is then adopted by the prosecutors involved, Alyosha and Bernice Griffin. He did not connect with them much. He then made friends with Bernard, Boyfriend, and more. At the end of their 13th year, they Bernard and Gladwyn have a huge fight where something so horrible happens, that the both of them cut ties with each other completely. Gladwyn then flies to another state/prefecture in order to avoid Bernard.
His original premise was borderline gambling and his addiction to it but now it's just him ruining others from the inside For those wondering yes it was inspired by Whitty's story and Franziska's story, but he's become his own character.

Artwork exhibit:
Tumblr media
First ever drawing of him made in June/July 2021. Haaate it. Ignore his original sexuality.
Tumblr media
Much more recent art made a few months ago. Would feature more butttttt nah also yes it's reposted but it's the only photogenic pic I have of him... and I have over 50 pieces of him in ibis.
Fun Facts:
His calves are BIG and STRONG. He considers his other lower 'assets' as he calls them to be rather underwhelming compared to them but even so CALVES. BIG. MEATY. CALVES. He definitely can break a watermelon in between them.
Has a heavy disliking to hibiscus flowers due to his previous stepmother wearing them.
Gladwyn is very perverted when it comes to men, but that's only the case due to seeing a show on television once about what he thought was a male pop-star singing joyful songs, and dancing.
He has a blue hair fetish because of the popstar, but mostly because of Boyfriend. Because of this, he considers blue hair to be a part of his preferences, but only towards men, as he doesn't mind what women he dates are like, as long as they are not too loud or aggressive in an abusive way, and not similar to his mother at all.
He's very good at fooling others. He might be fooling you right now.

Some things have been updated from the original ref back on wp sooo think of this as the more recent one
Hope you like this perverted bastard

LORE POST TIME owo
So, when I discovered that an Shibe Nintendog made a canonically appearance in Super Mario Odyssey I just had to incorporate them into the AU!
I'd like ya'll to meet Nin, the private detective of Metro Kingdom! He isn't technically a CASO (Convention Alliance Special Operations) affiliate but he works closely with the organization, often tasked with investigating disappearances they can't actively work with. This happens often enough due to CASO agents often being tasked with confronting Pirates, so Nin often has his paws full! He's rather serious and very good at his job; he's got a nose that can track anyone on the coldest of trails! But don't let his severe look fool ya; he's a complete sucker for scritches and as embarrassing as it might be, he loves a good game of fetch. uwu As for his species, he's a Nintendog! Speaking of Nintendogs... this drawing is general design concepts for them! Nintendogs are highly evolved animals that look a lot like our dogs but they are generally larger, and have evolved to be able to stand (and move around) on their back legs. They are simple-minded creatures however they are rather intelligent with a level of sapience to them, and like Yoshis they have their own native island, way of living, and culture.
FUNFACTS and LORE BITS: -While we’re on the topic, please have some headcanon regarding Companions and how they work (pretty sure I actually explained this a while back but... consider this a refresher with more detail! owo): Companions are animals with human-level intelligence. This generally means that while they don’t necessarily have their own kingdoms, they usually reside in simplistic societies with clear structure and culture, and as such they are considered sapient. Companions typically aren’t able to speak (or if they do, it’s extremely limited due to their vocal range) but can very clearly communicate regardless through other means, whether it be through universal form of Sign Language or some other way. They got the name “companion” since in general terms they are friendly and are sometimes known to have families to host them when they travel into much larger, much more modern cities and towns. As such there were laws put in place to make sure the hosting families did not treat these beings as pets or even live-in servants, something I can imagine being an issue before the World Convention was formed. As time went on, the Convention had begun a program where companion races can petition to be recognized as a Kingdom and join their ranks. The requirements of such include having one or more Sponsor kingdoms, their own land/island, and clearly having an established body of government of some form (that is in some ways democratic in nature). The very first “companion race” to have done this are the Kongs and the Kremlings, in which they were officially named a kingdom under the name D.K Isle. Other companion races include Birdos, Yoshis, Rexes, and Nintendogs. -Pets are animals who do not hold human-level intelligence and are, typically, domesticated from their much more feral counterparts for a variety of purposes. Sometimes its for companionship, sometimes for livestock, beasts of burden, whatever it may be. These animals include Spinies, Buzzy Beetles, Reznors, Poochies, Dhino-Rhinos, so on. -Nintendogs come in wide array of sizes, but basic classification is: Small, Medium, Large, Giant. The smallest breed of Nintendogs stands about the same height as a Toad, whereas the Giant breeds can be as large as your average human man. -Nintendogs cannot speak despite their intelligence and so communicate with others outside their kind in two separate ways: one is a modified form of sign language, given their paws aren't as dexterous as hands despite them having flexible dewclaws. The second is through a very simplified code language, "Woofish", which consists of a small series of barks, growls, and chuffs to cover basic language necessities, things like "yes, no, hello, goodbye" and so on.
