Just saw a comment praising Toph for being "mature" for blaming herself for Appa getting taken in the desert and internalizing Aang's anger at her, by someone who is notorious for trying to stir up shit in "defense" of Aang.

And like, first of all, yes, Toph is incredibly emotionally mature, but it's actually really sad how she blames herself here. And it's not that Toph should not be sad, it's not that no one understands how close Aang is to Appa, it's that Aang's reaction is really unfair, not because he doesn't have a right to be upset, but because he directly blames Toph for what happened and literally accuses her of wanting Appa to get taken.

And it's never actually something Aang ever apologizes for, while Toph constantly beats herself up about the fact that she couldn't save Appa and the gaang at the same time.

And part of the reason this bothers me isn't just related to how Aang is never really forced to grow by the narrative, but I also see this trend of people assuming that Toph's feelings don't actually matter here. Yeah, I know she's presented as the rough and tumble tomboy, but as a disabled person, it bothers me that Aang takes Toph's discomfort with Appa, that she has because of being uncomfortable when she can't have her feet on the ground, and uses it to blame her and accuse her of secretly wanting him gone. And honestly, this is an overlooked plot point that pretty realistically shows the prejudice and suspicion towards the disabled, the idea that they might actually be faking their disability and could have actually done more if they tried, and because they didn't overcome their disability, they must not really care. Plus as I said, there's a very real assumption that Toph's feelings can't be hurt because she's blunt and unfeminine. Toph is emotionally mature and empathetic, more than people give her credit for, but she's also a child, and she should not have to deal with that burden alone, while Aang takes advantage of her caring and her friendship here.

"The Desert" is not one of Aang's shining moments, and it could have been a good opportunity to show how people can act their worst when they are under stress, and have Aang realize that his grief over Appa should not allow him to take it out on his friends, who are just trying to help him.

Both Buck/Tommy and Buddie shippers are being so dramatic about everything.

On one hand, you have people acting like Buck and Tommy is written in the stars and anyone who dislikes them are being unjust and hateful. On the other, you have people acting as if Buck can’t possibly be in a relationship with a man who isn’t Eddie, and claiming he can is somehow based in racism and hatred of Eddie.

Neither is true! The problem is that prior to 7x04, Evan Buckley was not a canon queer character. He was viewed that way by fans and Oliver Stark was all for it, but that does not change the actual canon history of the character. Therefore, the writers can only fix what they feel fits the current story. They can retcon a few things and so on, but both sides are acting like they’re right, and it makes no sense.

Yes, Buddie shippers have Oliver and Ryan on their side for the most part. Yes, Oliver believes Buck has been queer all along and he thinks a lot of the headcanons about his character’s reaction to things make sense, but he is NOT saying it’s all true. He agrees Buck was likely experiencing some jealousy when Eddie first showed up, but that does not mean Tim Minear is going to make that theory canon. It’s fans and Oliver who think it, but that does not equal canon.

As well, with things being slightly retconned or adjusted to fit the story… Tommy is obviously no longer an asshole by proximity. He was rude to Hen and Chim, but we’ve seen he him interact with the two of them since in civil ways. We know Chim thinks he’s cool. Continuing to demand he apologize on screen is a waste of time. It was five seasons ago, and the story had to change to fit Tim bringing his character back. It happens.

As for Buck/Tommy shippers, y’all have got to get off the high horse of Possibility. At the moment, there are so many ways their relationship can go, and the only reason you all are so high and mighty about it, is because you’re technically never going to be wrong until you’re wrong. Which is annoying.

Yes, Tim could choose to have Tommy stick around for another season. Yeah, Buck and Tommy could be endgame. Yeah, Buck and Tommy could… any and everything is possible, but acting as if Tommy is the love of Buck’s life and deserves fan devotion is crazy. Don’t get me wrong, I like the character. He seems nice if a little cocky, but I like that. I like that he’s written as a grown man who, even though he’s changed, still has a little bit of asshole in him.

Because yes, what he did to Buck on their first date was rude. He didn’t explain anything and left him standing outside the restaurant as if he hadn’t just told him he’s never dated a man before, and as if they hadn’t just run into his best friend. It was a dick move. However, it’s also kinda realistic. So I dug it, but that’s also all we really know about him.

Tommy is an army vet, flies helicopters, was a firefighter, and is gay. Which he struggled to come to terms with, and can be a dick. The way y’all treating him like a savior is insane. Y’all are trying to rub it in people’s face that his relationship with Buck is canon while Buddie isn’t, and I don’t understand that. Buck wasn’t even bisexual three episodes ago, so where is this higher than thou attitude even coming from?

The only thing people should be focused on is the fact that Buck is now canonically bisexual. Tim liked the idea and Oliver loved it, so they finally made it happen. Now, his story has even more potential. I’d even go so far as to say season 7 is going to be a cleaning and re-establishing of all the characters, because so many of them feel a little different.

We’ve got bi!Buck, meaning we’ll get to see him in one or more relationships that he isn’t used to being in. We’ve got a new actor playing Harry, and he’s older, meaning they’re going to have to write to his strengths and build a storyline there that is more mature. Bobby and Athena almost died together for real for real, thus hopefully we’ll get to see their relationship evolve and what if it changes them in any way. Chim and Maddie are finally getting married, so we get to see them kickstart a new chapter together. Hen and Karen have a new child, which will hopefully bring them more storylines and hijinks as a family. And Eddie is dealing with forcing himself to accept a relationship he may not even want to be in. And he’s aware this time, which could result in him ignoring his fears or bowing out, then having to face what bowing out means.

Point is, there is no reason for all this drama.

Buddie is not guaranteed just because it is a popular want for fans, and an accepted theory by the actors and showrunner. They’ve all said it has to fit the overall story without forcibly gearing the writing in that direction. Which means it could happen two episodes from now or two seasons from now. We just have to wait and see.

At the same time, Buck and Tommy are not an established couple yet. They’re going on their second date, and it’s been said Tommy isn’t in the last few episodes of the season. So it’s possible he and Buck are still together, but Lou isn’t a series regular nor regular recurring, so he’s just not contracted to be on set. Which is fine, but acting like a quick breakup is also bad storytelling is ridiculous.

Fans have hated Buck’s relationships with women from the jump, and him breaking up fast isn’t exactly new. So if it happens with the first man he dates… okay. Tommy can become more than a stepping stone, but the writers aren’t obligated to make his first experience with a man something deep and profound. It can be fun and eye-opening and still have mattered, even if it ends fast.

Y’all have got to let the stories play out, and not scream bloody murder if your headcanon doesn’t become canon. Because truth be told, Buck being canon bi is the biggest flex of fan service I’ve ever seen, even if I think it adds to the depth of him. So I can’t imagine how difficult it is to be sure not to continue giving that same group of fans everything they want outright, when there’s so much more story to unfold.

Which means they can’t just make Tommy the love of Buck’s life because Buck/Tommy fans have ditched Buddie or were never Buddie shippers, and want to be right. But they also can’t have Eddie come out and he and Buck start dating, because Buddie shippers have waited five seasons. Just wait to see what happens, and in the meantime, enjoy watching Buck discover more of himself. With Tommy as his current love interest, and Eddie as his best friend.

Toby is a closed off individual. It stuns from his younger years where he was always an introvert until he was comfortable with someone. He acts cold and careless, ignorant to most things. And that he’s accepted that it’s in the past and that it will indeed mess him up even more than before.

Back when Toby remembered everything, it made him a shell of what he once was before Lyras death. His health declined in every way it possibly could. Remembering that core memory could send him into a deeper spiral and therefore chooses to dig elsewhere.

Yesterday's poll decided that The Adventurer should just start crying whilst being robbed in the abandoned barn ...

Not sure what else to even do, The Adventurer simply collapses into a ball on the floor and starts sobbing, screaming, and rolling about. The hooded figure pauses in confusion at first, but.. apparently is not very sympathetic to his plight.

They rush over, grappling with him as he cries, fighting to pry the backpack out of his hands. The Adventurer continues screeching frantically, and during some of his flailing accidentally swings his arm up, elbowing the hooded figure in the face. They let out an exasperated sigh, knocking him against the wall then firmly yanking him up by the hair, securing their arm around his throat to restrain him as they grab for the backpack. He kicks a few times, struggling, clawing at the hooded figure's arms, but just isn't strong enough to free himself.. There's a thwack and a sudden sharpness in the side of his head, the backpack pulling away from his shoulders, cold ground, and then… nothing at all..…

The Adventurer slowly opens his eyes to a quiet foggy morning.. Tiny particles in the dusty barn air gently flutter to and fro, dancing around in the streams of early sunlight trickling through the slight crack of the front doors. With a groan, he rolls over, suddenly feeling every ache in his body. His head, his wrist, his leg injury from crashing the raft.. He spends a while just laying on his back, watching the dust and gazing hopelessly at the moldy boards of the roof, mustering the strength to sit upright… What can he even do next? He's failed.. His first EVER actual quest of his adventuring career, and he can't even keep a stupid egg safe for more than a few days! What type of adventurer is that?? Maybe he should just give up.. Go back home and do nothing with his life, just as he was meant to... He sighs, turning back onto his side and curling into a ball to sulk even more dramatically. The cat trots over to him to interrupt his swirling thoughts, pawing at his face, then directing him towards a small stack of hay in the corner where... there it is! His backpack!! He scrambles over, immediately digging through to check for his belongings.. To his surprise, everything it still in it's place. His food, his money, all of the cool shiny rocks he's collected so far.. And tucked away in the very bottom, the Mysterious Egg box remains, completely undamaged.. somehow with the egg still inside! And... a note? He shakily unfolds a crisp sheet of pale yellow paper dotted with a few scribbly letters: "I took care of her for you. Be more careful next time. Just get where you have to go."

Well...... He supposes that if there's apparently going to be weirdos following him around anyway, maybe he's lucky at least one of them seems nice. Better than trying to ROB him, at least.. Even if it is a bit creepy. He realizes now that his injuries have been bandaged as well, and that when he woke up, he was wrapped in a blanket, and.. where is the hooded figure? What does the stranger mean that they "took care" of her?? He turns to the cat for answers, as if they'd be able to clear up his confusions, but they simply make a "mrrp!" noise and stare blankly in response. Figuring that it's all far too much to think about first thing in the morning (especially with the headache that he has), he just decides to be thankful he at least still has the egg, and thus can continue on his grand adventure!! He will NOT let himself fail again! Sore and limping but full of renewed motivation, he leaps up (at least as best he can) and continues back onto the road. After walking only a few hours, he comes to a clearing at the top of a large hill, overlooking the next stop on his journey (then double checks the map just to make sure it actually IS the next stop). This is a much bigger area than the previous villages he's been to, possibly large enough to even count as a small city. With a wider variation of shops and attractions available to him than usual, he wonders if he should just take a break and relax the rest of the day.

He's too tired to walk much today anyway, soo.. maybe it'd be good for him to spend some time in a safe public space, doing something to help take his mind off of this morning's drama… But, what should he do?

the adventurer's current main quest: follow his map to reach the abandoned castle ruins and see the rare animal specialist about the mysterious egg he has

I had to be realistic lol #If some obviously threatening person is coming after you because they want to steal and extremely valuable item from you #for their boss or to sell themselves or whatever. you being vulnerable is just going to give them a chance to take it from you #there are very few instances where realistically that WOULDN'T happen. gbhjb..#Also note: I did not make up the mysterious person who ''saves'' him as a cop out from giving him actual consequences t #o his actions or something. I know it's convenient - but it does make sense. There have always been multiple people following him ever #since he was at the Inn. Even though the Inkeeper tried to hide it very fast and keep hush hush about it. there were people there #who were alerted to the fact that he has the egg. Mostly two specifically. One of them has always been more benevolent because #they have a different end goal. Which is like.. not extremely benevolent actually ghhjbhbj.. but it makes sense for them to act #benevolent at the moment because they have an interest in seeing that the egg is taken to it's ''proper place''.#The two people following him were not directly connected or working for the same people or anything. But the one who just helped him #obviously was very aware of the other. and the other didn't know about the helpful one. ANYWAY #A stumbling block in the beginning of his grand adventuring journey. hopefully things go better for him from here lol #His injuries are pretty minor but he still feels bad since he's not used to fighting. I think he deserves a relax day #he was already 5 seconds away from crying at any given time. now on top of that he's got bruises and a sprained wrist and a headache #and he's not used to having ever been injured or ''fought'' anyone before so he WILL be being very dramatic about it in his head and #finding every possible chance to mention to anyone who will listen about how he was so so brave and got in such a wild fight #and also feels so so bad and please tell him everything will be okay and oh he is so so so injured *big wet seal eyes*#he IS going to feel sorry for himself for weeks gghbjhb..

i think one of the things i want to do over break for funsies is like. rewatch every pak drama of the major contemporary writers nationally hailed as progressive (e.g., umera ahmed, farhat ishtiaq, sameera fazal, etc.) and see how many of the male leads i come out actually still liking. like i want to make an excel spreadsheet cataloguing every red flag that went under my radar as a kid. for science

#bc if we are being real. sooo many of these guys are nothing short of rancid #and while i get the point of a lot of these dramas is to show emotionally stunted men grow #idk how much tolerance i have for certain behaviors now like idk..#tangentially this is also why complaints of saif from kuch ankahi Really amuse me #like ok so all of the most toxic and insecure men imaginable aren’t a problem for most pak drama fans #but a man who simply lacks agency and is maybe a bit cowardly bc his mother overimposes on him is horrible and unappealing..#like i’m not saying people have to like him or have a crush on him by any means #but i think it’s weird people are blatantly ignoring he’s being used to comment on how mothers emasculate their sons and strip their agency #and how that doesn’t always translate to those sons being weird toxic alpha males but can simply make them cowardly and unable to stand up #for themselves. which yes. is totally worth criticizing. but it’s strange people think samiya is coddling him #simply bc she’s willing to ask him what he thinks when his mother does or says certain things #if she were coddling him she wouldn’t even bother worrying that he’s a pushover #but instead what she does is prompt him to slowly recognize that he has his own thoughts and feelings and that he can act on him #and that she’s not going to solve his problems for him bc he’s capable of solving them himself #and idk i think that is a narrative worth telling. and i am so willing to cut him slack for being a coward bc he’s the farthest thing from #a toxic alpha male. people have twisted him into being this horrible liar cheat etc for liking someone else prior to his marriage #despite the fact that we are literally being told and shown he’s forced into the marriage and his mom Knows he likes someone else and she #doesn’t care. saif cannot realistically say no without effectively running away and he’s incapable of that bc he fears his mother #he’s not a bad person. he’s just a coward. and his growth will entail that he becomes someone brave enough to take a stand for himself #and personally i am way more open than whatever shite we have in other dramas where it takes a saas abusing her bahu for her son to wake up #to be deleted

I may do an Aatarion origin run PURELY because I want to know what the gameplay is like on the other side of the bite scene. Do you get to pick who to bite, or does it automatically select the highest-approval companion like the Dark Urge will if you aren't romancing someone? Will different companions let you or not let you bite them, or is it flat persuasion for all of them? Or is it nothing and all of them (bar Gale and Karlach, obviously) will let you bite them again. Do you have to do an ability check to stop yourself when the player would usually have that DC 5(?) persuasion check? Or do you just get to choose to let go or not, framing it as less of a need/urge and more as Astarion just choosing to ignore the player asking him to stop if they failed the check? All little bits of nuance that I'm expecting to be disappointed about after my Gale origin experience lol.

#I'm also interested in whether or not his origin is structured better given how much more time he got in general compared to the others #like we all know my issues with the Gale origin where the only realistic plotline for him is to blow up in act 2 #since there's no stand-in from the others to replace Tav convincing him not to do it when he isn't the player character #so like. does astarion's origin do better to fill those blanks? because he has SO MANY cutscenes #like so he can see his scars or to reaffirm his agency with Oblodra etc etc #i am curious whether he does get the required extra content from a love interest or if his shit is also just flat and bad lmao #so astarion origin players lmk if you find this #bg3 #astarion ancunin #astarion #baldur's gate #baldur's gate 3

the Nate Shelley s3 arc reminds me of the s5 Murphy arc in terms of how much I actually loved it despite it not being widely liked by the fandom and was actually disappointed because it wasn't ugly enough lol

and it's basically the same arc. character with deep-seated wounds and a lack of true self-love has realistic, damaging coping methods and crashes and burns spectacularly by hurting other people around them and isolating themselves because it doesn't matter how good things get for you, deep-seated wounds that don't get addressed will eventually come out one way or another. and it will be ugly when they do.

the Murphy arc was disappointing because it got wrapped up way too easily with Memori getting back together which didn't actually address ANY of Murphy's issues and Nate's was disappointing because it just didn't commit fully to being ugly and didn't let him be enough of an asshole

#with murphy it's like. do the writers even reallly REALIZE what they had written on a character level and how much it made sense and added #to murphy's character or did they just develop a reason for Memori to break up for drama and then didn't care to actually go through the #work of character growth and just got them together at the end of the season no issues #and with nate it's like. yes I DO think the majority of audiences and the fandom would have absolutely villianized nate if he had been even #meaner in s3 and probably wouldn't have celebrated him getting back with the team. I just KNOW people would have been talking about how he #didn't deserve it or hadn't made up for it enough if he had been worse in s3 #which is so unfair when a) this show tries to show how hurt can make people ugly and b) other characters get the benefit of the doubt wa #more than nate. (jamie's a little different bc it's easier to accept asshole > redeemed arcs a little more than likeable > downfall to #asshole > redeemed again bc we see the transition to being an asshole #BUT also. still. jamie did some nasty stuff that people just forget or completely forgive. and he ends up fandom favorite #and it's not that nate needed to become the fan fave or anything #I just wish people would give characters who are realistically ugly and human and complicated more grace #especially when they're not the conventionally attractive fan fave pretty boy you know #or like with murphy it's like all his actual harsh edges got sanded down by fandom. same as with Jamie #so even when he had an arc where he was acting terribly in a self destructive unhealthy kind of way that hurt others #people made it ALL about his hurt uwu other people hurt him!! it was Emori's fault!! he did nothing wrong bc he has trauma!! instead of lik #accepting that hurt people hurt people is more than a simple phrase it is true and human and UGLY when it happens #anyways #why do i always ramble more in the tags and write like a full epilogue in here

#⋯ ꒰ა starry thoughts ໒꒱ *·˚#i came across a . almost 3 years old note on my phone last night i think? my original world and characters stuff aaa #:(( !! awh man i always vaguely remembered it but i thought i never wrote it down but i actually did #i had a realization earlier that the reason why i like ayer so much is probably because he reminds me a lot of nico as well LMFAO emo #younger brothers who act angry at times but are strong but also yeah and T_T anyways damn my favorite characters have always influenced me #so much. anyway. my ocs ... okay i love them all and a lot of it is underdeveloped but merle and lyra in particular stand out #i actually rambled about my main original world ocs on my priv twt. like. pronouns and simple backstories and sexualities lol #anyway merle and lyra mean the wooorld to me !! merle was formed off a very old oc that was very important in my childhood #lyra was first originated from an oc i created from the idea of my first and only ever irl crush. so yeah. yeah #i would say uhm... akira & merle are very similar and then lyra with aerith. to give a small idea.#the whole original story and world of mine really gives off square enix vibes LMFAO ff and kh fr mostly #would love to share more sometime but maybe i want to keep it a little secret. idk. i don't want to make it incredibly realistic but moreso #realistic still? it's super self indulgent but it has become less op from 3 years ago. but yeah? yeah

I dont believe in ghosts personally but sometimes its fun to think that it might be a thing, even if I highly doubt they are real.

One example is how my grandma has a small cabin in the back yard of her home and her old dog, as well as my cat Kohga, are both buried behind the cabin.

The interesting thing is that my little brother was supposed to sleep in that cabin in a bunk bed, and one of our cousins had the other bunk, and my brother kept insisting there was something in the closet, or that someone was knocking on the door and windows. I have no idea if my brother actually believes in ghosts because I havent really heard him talk about it at all, but it's interesting how he couldnt sleep out there at all because he was too scared to and kept insidting there was a ghost with them there, when our cousin didnt believe him at all and tried to tell him multiple times that there werent any ghosts there.

Grandmas current dog also REFUSES to go inside that cabin, he will come to a dead stop outside of the cabin and refuse to enter it, and the few times he has been taken into it anyways he has just been standing at the door whimpering and whining and waiting to be let out. He also doesnt go in the general area where the two graves are.

While I dont believe in ghosts, me and my grandma joke about the dog and Kohga haunting the cabin (maybe haunting isnt the right word really but idk) and its kind of nice to think that maybe there is a reason to why the dog reacts like that. I wonder if the same would be true if the cabin was in another spot, or if the graves were somewhere else, or if the dog along with my brother would still react like that.

It's also interesting how my brother is scared of possible ghosts existing, when he has no problem watching horror movies. To be fair I can handle horror pretty well too but ghosts in horror is the one thing I cant handle, so its possible that he is just like me where he doesnt really believe in ghosts but the concept scares him.

Im not sure tho, since I have never heard him talk about ghosts and whether he believe in them or not, but it's still interesting to think about him being scared of sleeping in the cabin as well as the dog being scared of even being in there, and also the two graves being right at the back of the cabin.

Maybe there is something going on there or im looking into it too much, im not sure. Im leaning more towards the latter tho since well, I dont really believe in ghosts. Me and my partner will probably go there some day when they are here tho, since they expressed interest in checking it out.

If anyone else has any input on what they think about that situation or similar ones then please do tell me. All i ask for is that people dont call me dumb for not believing in ghosts being a thing, and for people to not say people who do believe in ghosts are dumb for believing in them. I just want more people's input on this situation and what people think about this specific situation.

#ramblings #not even sure how to tag this #ghost encounters #?#my post #like yeah i sometimes like to think that maybe ghosts are real but its more for fun than an actual belief tbh #but if someone genuinely believes in ghosts please give me your input on this situation or tell me your experiences #i like to try and look for explanations for these things and i honestly cant really think of much innthe whole cabin situation #if anyone has another possible explanation then do tell me those as well! i would love to hear possible explanations that i havent even #thought of myself #also for context: ny grandma lives in a very rural area and a huge part of the property she lives on is part of a pine forest #and there are absolutely animals out there lol #also the cabin is a one room cabin with a closet and two bunk beds im pretty sure so its not a big one #the cabin is right by the forest edge and behind it the dog and Kohga are buried #the main house is maybe ten meters away from the cabin and it's a small house or kind of a cabin itself lol #but yeah its very rural and there are animals like foxes nearby and while i havent seen any there are probably bears and wolves there too #which could be one thing that scares the dog but its only really by that cabin so it feels strange that it would be something like that #and the dog is a hunting dog as well. he has a very high prey drive. i dont think a fox would realistically scare him too much either way #the dog is a wiener dog btw. one of those short and long ones that hunt smaller animals #but he also has that stereotypical chihuahua behaviour of barking and acting tough at bigger dogs #i dont really know tho lol
