all of these are directly stated by kastoway himself in deviantart posts/comments, instagram stories, or tobys canon story

I. Toby has a split eyebrow from the car crash

II. He only attended grade school for a short time when we was 12 before being homeschooled due to bullying

III. Kastoway describes Toby's eye colour as "dark brown/black"

IV. Kastoway created Toby as a fan character when he was 12 just for fun. He never expected him to get the attention that he did

V. Toby was stated to be 19 in 2013, which means Toby was born on April 28th, 1994. Today he'll be turning 30 years old

VI. In Toby's age chart, he is shown to be in a straitjacket at 30 years old, and described to "not have much time left on his plate", "any bit of sanity in him is probably gone", and "lives out the rest of his days in a mental asylum and/or gets put down"

VII. He has little to no memory of his life before becoming a proxy

Since Toby’s birthday is right around the corner I figured I shall drop some birthday headcanons and some other side stuff.

I base these off of my feelings towards birthdays and celebrations like so.

I feel like he wouldn’t care much about his birthday, he’s the type that would most likely give YOU a gift on his own birthday. He’s not big on receiving but would take anything else into consideration before himself. He feels like he’s not allowed to have fun or enjoy himself even just for one day.

When younger he’d just request to be left alone for the day to stay in his room and occasionally have Lyra show up for company. Maybe even her singing happy birthday to him every now and then. He’s not too big on sweets either so there was a time where she brought him a muffin with a candle on top, knowing frosting makes his stomach upset.

He would absolutely hate big parties and never really got one anyways. Unless it was people he was close with and if he didn’t know about it, he’d avoid everything about a party. He would just maybe want a friend or partner to keep him company for the day, that’s all he would ask for.

I also like to think that his iconic hoodie was a gift from his mom and Lyra due to not owning many jackets in the first place and the fact he would chew the hoodie strings until they were quite literally so shedded that they weren’t even functional anymore. So they’d find him one that still looked nice but also lacked those strings. (He was banned from hoodie strings…his mom would take them out of hoodies he had) eventually though he chewed the sleeves up on the gifted one but he loved it too much to stop wearing it so I like to think Lyra sewed on new sleeves from one of his other hoodies (where the striped pattern comes from) as the one they got him was just the base color and the blue hood. But ever since then he hasn’t chewed on them, knowing she put effort into sewing them on.

It’s a sturdy material and warm so he did and still does wear it a lot though he has other clothes too.

Mentions of neglect and bad father >:(. Ab*se

I don’t like thinking about scenarios involving his dad but sometimes I sit and think about my own past, and will always click it onto the guy, as that’s how I cope, and the fact it’s also fiction, and that I know I’m not truly alone.

There were times during Toby’s childhood where his dad would put out cigarettes on his arms. I think his dad was an on and off smoker or secretly a very heavy one. Though it wasn’t mentioned that much in the rewrite, he does smoke occasionally. The house would stink of it and sometimes even Toby would. Another reason he was bullied as well. Anyways, due to the little perfect blemishes on his skin due to the tiny cigarette burns, he now just has maybe 8 little burn scars on his right arm alone.

This headcanon is a little personal, as I too have been used as a human ashtray and just got the idea.

I also feel like sometimes he just didn’t even notice, as it wouldn’t be painful but later on would just look down at his arm to see a little burn and be like “where did that come from.”

Another day, another essay

Toby is a closed off individual. It stuns from his younger years where he was always an introvert until he was comfortable with someone. He acts cold and careless, ignorant to most things. It takes someone special to him for him to truly open up and “be vulnerable” as that’s what he fears being. He does not want to come off as weak mentally or physically even if he is. He will know he’s losing a fight but will still push through til it’s his blood and his blood only that spills. That’s what makes him the way he is. It also explains the fact he didn’t speak up about what his dad was doing to him and his family to anyone. Even if they were somewhat close to him. There's things he’d never tell anyone. There's things that he does not want to remember. After so long of trying he did eventually give up on being curious of his past. The people around him. Mostly his co partners in this case being Tim and Brian, showed that it may not want to be dug up. And that he’s accepted that it’s in the past and that it will indeed mess him up even more than before.

Back when Toby remembered everything, it made him a shell of what he once was before Lyras death. His health declined in every way it possibly could. Remembering that core memory could send him into a deeper spiral and therefore chooses to dig elsewhere.

He will give you the cold shoulder, he will display the resting bitch face. He will stare coldly. It does not affect him, he does not care what you think…

On the other hand, if he grows to know you, if you somehow hit that little spot, he will probably be one of your best friends. Trust for him comes earned but also like a subscription. If you repeatedly break it even once his care and trust for you will fade. It doesn’t take a lot but not too little either. He’s very keen on pinky promises and secret keeping. He wants to feel special if he makes someone else feel that way too. It can’t be one sided, he will know..

He gets rather jealous, but not in a violent way. He will show signs of sadness around you and would ask very on topic questions but would avoid any mention of what makes him that way.

He is honestly just a guy, a normal dude who wants to overcome his stupid mind and the way it makes him think. He has horrible communication skills and lacks social cues to the point that realistically speaking.. any kind of human interaction could scare him off. He does prefer sitting in a dark room alone but he hates to admit he wants some kind of attention, rather it be physical, romantic, platonic. There’s probably times where he purposely starts trouble just so a fight could break out. Anything for clarification that he exists.. anything that could remind him that he’s not a rotting corpse and can feel, even if it’s not just pain.

Im gonna rant about my AU (Comic) real quick but omg is this no further than the truth. in Dystopia Tim is like a father to Toby. Ever since day one there was a hint of them knowing each other already in the beginning but that’s because they did. There’s stuff that happened before dystopia takes place and that’s so dear to me.

In my story. Tim and Brian actually nearly hit Toby with their raggedy ass 2001 Toyota Camry. This caused them to absolutely panic as they were driving down an old dirt road in the middle of the night in the middle of NO WHERE, Toby had just FREHSLY killed his dad and this was maybe the night after he woke up from nearly burning alive. (I won’t get into the way I have Brian and Tim written from after MH just yet) but they’re back together already let’s just say that for now.

It was Brian’s ideas mainly to check on the boy as bro was literally laying on the road in shock, he wasn’t even fully hit but it freaked him out bad, again, still in shock from randomly waking up covered in blood in the middle of no where and no recollection of what happened or who he even was..

Tim and Brian actually heard the news about what Toby did and who he was, what he looked like but didn’t expect to meet this way. Tim wanted to just drive off and leave Toby but Brian was genuinely concerned they may have just accidentally killed someone.

That being said they ended up getting Toby into their car and driving back to the house they stayed in. Toby was full out giving up at this point bro was just wanting a break. He was 100% convinced he was just kidnapped and wasn’t surprised his luck put him in these situations.

The two keep Toby in their house, provide him food and clothes and other stuff, the main reason they decided to hold onto him was because they realized who he was by then and got some information that he may have contact with the entity they both know and hate. Toby was extremely distant and didn’t eat around them or talk much to them at all, they had to research him to even know beyond what news channels had said about him. They knew his past. But he didn’t. They decided to keep it from him obviously as the boy was already like a dog rescued from a dog fighting cult..

Tim, though being the one to not care before, seemed to be more concerned than Brian, feeling like there was something deeper here.

The operator DID NOT like this, it wanting its precious puppet to be isolated more than just mentally. It drove Toby to run away from the house and to never return. Both the men were devastated but it didn’t affect them too much as a just a few months flew by. Brian suspiciously went missing as well, leaving Tim alone. This lasted for around exactly one year and a half later, Tim runs into Toby at the mill located in the center of rosswood. And this is where Dystopia starts..

Toby’s memory is wiped AGAIN and this just leaves Tim remembering and once again taking Toby back to the house. Now on the hunt for Brian.

With all that out of the way, we know how Tim gets in my AU, Even though he’s just a stranger still to Toby, the man oddly tries to care for him as he’s originally not even a bad guy, even in MH.. He has problems himself and just wants a reason to stay around if you understand.. knowing someone is partially a responsibility, he’ll make sure to do what he can to keep them safe. He grows protective like a father.

In Dystopia. Toby sneaks out…. ALOT. More into the chapters we begin to see the care and worry Tim carries for this boy. So yes, I’d assume he would definitely wrap him up just bubble wrap and hide him in a cave, especially with the shit Toby always gets himself into. Oh yeah.
