You mentioned potentially redesigning characters as Compleated in a post a while back, and if you’re still interested in that, I’d *love* to see how you’d go about compleating Teferi! There’s a lot of potential there I feel like
Sorry for the (checks calendar) two month delay, but I wanted to give this some thought
I kind of went a bit overboard with this, cuz I wanted to explore a few different ideas

Also I felt like doing something shapey so I did a very straightforward (by which I mean barely changed) porcelain host design. I think the gold inlaid in the porcelain looks pretty good, as well as being a bit of a hint at his true autonomy (gold hued metals being much more associated with mirrans and the resistance than any new phyrexian faction, from what I can tell)
I think a design combining porcelain and chrome would be cool, but alas, is spent a lot of time on this already, so that might come later
Anyways—thank you for this suggestion, I ended up having a lot of fun with it, and I might have to draw more teferi art now, because I adore his visual design.

It goes without saying that Karina’s reputation is flawless. 
Irene’s is remarkably not.
You're not even staunchly a romantic or anything. You just can’t be assed to manage the distinction between desire and distance. So when the dust settles, the best case scenario is the three of you going around telling people, "all of this is actually a true story by the way."

You don't need the extra helping of moody and foreboding, but the wind picks up enough to chill you to the spot.
It blows some of the longer, darker strands of Irene's hair into her eyes and she shivers, too, against the cold as she tucks it behind her ears. You’ve got both hands balled into your coat pockets, watching her pretend like she isn't about to say something you absolutely do not want to hear. Then, a sigh - the length of which is probably unwarranted. You can feel the frost on the air burning through your teeth as you face back out toward the taxi stand. 
It’s gotten late and you're still waiting on an empty cab - you’re realizing there was never a conversation to be had in the first place.
“For what it’s worth,” Irene says, and there’s an indecent proposal just in the way she glances at you. “I had my eyes on her first.”
It’s all on account of some sort of moral quandary, or whatever nonsense Irene pretends to believe every time it comes up. A gross power imbalance; an issue of innocence and entitlement; a threat of abuse. Something, another thing, patriarchal expectations, blah, blah - she fudges around the details, but never ever cares who gets hurt. Not really.
And it’s doubtful Irene believes what she says, not to mention she’s skeptical anyone is even capable of zipping their way down Karina’s denim, working a pair of hands up the contour of her long legs, and making her pant and gasp hard enough that she forgets to breathe.
Well, supposedly - that is anyone, save the two of you. Nevermind the fact she’s always, always been off-limits.
The bottom line is she's a whole decade younger than either of you. This just for starters - only legal for alcohol by some narrow margin. Because between you and your fiancée there are all these rules: no coworkers, no labelmates, no close mutual friends, no personal assistants, no jealous ex-lovers, and absolutely none of her juniors. It’s in poor taste, among other things.
Also, just as straightforward: crossing any number of those lines has its own kind of appeal.
"Okay,” you say, “then maybe you should be the one to tell her we’re taking her home."
Irene's arching her eyebrows at you like a silent rebuttal. She smiles after a laugh, quick and easy, because it's what she's good at. It's what she knows. “Like you weren’t hoping she’d be here, too."
The ash Irene taps off the end of her cigarette falls to the ground like snow. Hitting the pavement as if it might punctuate the thought. That's a rare first mistake from someone like you, and then a second one from her: she thinks she’ll need to defend herself with an explanation, like she’d ever need to justify anything to you.
“Besides, she’s not waiting for me to ask.” There’s a curl to her mouth - and then, she adds, for your benefit, "she'd follow you anywhere."
The twisted irony is that the two of you could pick up any woman, anyone at all.
"I think it’s a discussion for another day," you tell her, serious. She laughs out loud.
"Which one? Who Karina wants, or that you're aching every bit as much as I am to spread her out on our bed and fuck her? Because I'm pretty sure we can both agree that at this point-"
Your palm curls around the nape of her neck with a touch of on-your-feet-thinking: one of these moments that lets Irene sit with the knowledge of how small she really is against you, her head against the collar of your coat, chin angled just so to look up at your face. And there's only a beat that passes between your fingers in her hair, tugging gently as her hand releases to your waist, her teeth clipping against the press of your lips, before a cab pulls up right next to you. You kiss her hard. It probably looks cinematic.
If for nothing other than to give Karina one less thing to overhear when she comes back outside to join you.
"Really not the time," you whisper right into the subtle twist of her grin. Her cigarette's gone out in the snowy mess, but Irene smirks deeper in response before throwing it onto the wet concrete. She grinds it beneath her boot like a reminder, her hand still firm on your hip.
"What, you don't think it’d make her day? Don’t think she'd want to hear all those kinds of thoughts running together through our heads?"
You pull Irene in closer. “She’s not you.”

For context - only so you’re aware how it all starts - it wasn’t actually New Year’s Eve, even though everyone had been drinking like it were.
Also for context, it’s not something you were strictly invited to either. Irene’s company holds this holiday party at the end of every year where all of their employees show up (read: idols; Irene likes to argue about work sometimes - to which you have never contested the value of her labor - but your brain tends to fuzz out in the middle, and instead you mostly just watch her pretty mouth in motion). All of the high-up executives and department heads bring their uptight wives and girlfriends to some restaurant ballroom for a cocktail reception that only really functions for name dropping, or influencing the media, or placing side bets on who is sleeping with the CFO - or whose mistress might show up unexpectedly and meet someone's wife face-to-face for the very first time.
It happens to someone Irene knows, once. You pray every year it will happen again.
Be that as it may, there are a plethora of other terrible ways to spend an evening and a half, but it’s all laid bare in Irene's contract - attendance being mandatory; enjoyment excessively optional.
And sure, it’s taken time, but you have gotten used to it: the industry, all of its excess, the inevitable display, the million and one things required of Irene that you, on the other hand, will simply never be able to relate to.
The machine’s so fine-tuned and tightly wound, like clockwork.
"Yeah, whatever," she had said, leaning her hip against your bathroom sink earlier in the day. Her dress laid out neatly across your bed, already pressed, set with her heels and jewelry, everything set on schedule to the point of absurdity.
And so it goes.
You can hear her brushing her teeth through the open door - and see her profile through the hand-swiped-fog on the mirror. She drags the toothbrush to the corner of her mouth: "And before you even ask, yes, you have to come. That's the deal. That's always been the deal - bored, or busy, or trapped talking to some social climbing board member who’s realized the liquor flows fast and free - I don’t wanna hear about it. You’ll be there."
"Uh-huh," you say, eyes fixed on her reflection in the mirror.
"Look, I hate to be the bearer of bad news,” she adds, spits, and lets the faucet run, “but this one’s shaping up to be a really long night.” 
You watch the meticulous effort to pull her dark hair back into a low, neat bun as she turns and comes back into the bedroom, tossing her hair clip onto the bed to reclaim later. 
“So I guess, pace yourself or something.”
"Ever the salesman, Irene," you say, facetious.
"Um, saleswoman, thank you." Her words are slightly muffled by a silk tank top pulled on over her head, then down the flat length of her body until it hits the tops of her thighs. 
It’s not a matter of opinion that she'll look gorgeous in the stilettos, the dress - those earrings that catch light wherever it dares touch her. She'll smile her practiced grin. It'll probably taste sour after the hundredth person asks how long it's been and she tells them she can't remember. But then look - Irene here, still perfectly disheveled: her damp-darkened hair sticking to the porcelain skin of her neck, skin washed free of makeup. She’s beautiful. In a plain and simple way, simple-but-good. Even with the tight little scowl she shoots your direction. It’s a look she has to know could launch a thousand ships; could start a real, actual war; though you're far too charming to know how to fight - you’ve never seen the appeal.
Irene's teeth tug at the corner of her lip like she knows you'd probably end up dying in it. She puts forward this unassuming, nonchalant, “hey.”
She muses it right into a laugh. Covers her genuine smile with her fingers.
"Hey," is how you answer, always.
You’re noticing, now, the strap of her top has fallen just down the petite slope of her shoulder. You want to get your fingers beneath it. Maybe get her back in the shower. You’re never too picky.
And here: an unspoken demand, the thing that always gets you about her - while Irene stands in front of you, her finger looped between the top buttons of your shirt to draw you close. The bow of her lip perked ever-so-slightly, this soft pucker - all pretty in pink. "Before I slip into this dress, you’re going to push me against something sturdy and kiss me until I'm dizzy," she instructs, calm and methodical.
"A lot," you continue for her. You nod seriously, for a moment. "Dizzying."
She closes her eyes and leans in, and you lean into her, too. "Yeah, exactly," she ends up murmuring under a hot breath. "So, get to it.”
And so it goes, and so it goes.

"Have a drink," someone keeps saying.
As a matter of fact, they all do: four shots together - or one old-fashioned, or two vodka seltzers, or three of these mystery concoctions that come in a tall-stemmed glass you didn’t actually catch the name of, and jesus, it fucking reeks of prosecco. You pace yourself, within reason. You really do.
Irene gets elusive under the surface, which is to say, she doesn't change at all - not even at the edges.
And though everyone is here to be seen, only a few actually do any of the talking. Irene has it covered - you do your time.
Happy New Year, sorta. You wait it out.

She tastes like everything sweet, strong on her heels and sharper on her tongue - and sometimes, it’s not the best mix, given all you can manage is the touch and scent of Irene without actually getting at the insides of her thighs or that tempting stretch of skin under her ear, her neck, down to her chest.
This much, and she has no complaint - hardly seems surprised or inconvenienced - to you stepping her into the wall like it's a matter of instinct.
She just sighs, a short huff. "Don't miss these kinds of parties," she then confesses, right into your mouth, her warm exhale filling you whole. The sounds of people laughing and champagne glasses clicking nearby, a new song starting up, it's all an unnecessary backdrop, and Irene isn't distracted by a single bit of it.
Character, setting, scene; it’s all rather textbook, no? 
You know what the sounds mean, the soft hums, the lingering touches, the firm press of your palm into the dip of her waist or the slender line of her back. She knows where all the cameras are because she knows everything that anyone could possibly ever want to know, such as the fact that this empty stairwell is a perfect place to start, that there isn't a real plan as to where this might go - or when it should end.
And you should know where not to press - or bite or grab or leave a mark - not in some liminal space, nor some vacant practice-room, not beneath a desk, not behind a curtain. No, not here, cloaked in shadow and secrecy, another scandal in the making. Not that the knowledge stops you from testing out the lines, from drawing little patterns up Irene's waist, slipping one hand along the barest skin where her dress has hitched up along her thigh. To a boundary, the low pitch of her voice, some suggestion like, "not here, are you serious?" mumbled across your lips like it really doesn't matter what gets said or does not.
She’s pinned so properly, so precisely, that the discord between her gentle coaxing, and your hard, bruising edge - that sheer incongruity between what you should do and what you should not - can make the adrenaline spike.
She kisses you harder - and harder, and harder. She catches the small sigh you let out. She kisses you breathless.
You can’t shake the feeling that you’re wasting an opportunity, given that you’re both dressed to the nines and are usually more homebody than anything else. Isn’t that the irony of fame? You sign up for an escape, and spend your life running away.
Irene eventually sinks back into the soles of her heels, wiping her mouth with the back of her wrist, and she smiles so easy. She tugs at the cuffs of your jacket, sets your collar flat and proper.
"I'm thinking," you hear her say, taking stock for herself, the flush high in her cheeks, the tousled sort-of-curls now bared, "in half an hour, if you feel like leaving early, we could, oh, I don't know - escape?"
Escape to a bed with a door that locks, you assume she means. Irene wants; you deliver - however she'd like.
“Sounds tempting,” you tell her. She laughs against your shoulder. "Are you waiting on someone else to sweep you off your feet, maybe? Another offer?"
"Uh, always," she scoffs. It's the little things, confidence, and certainty, the honest-in-practice; how her palms sit soft and secure, cupping the angle of your jaw, one hand, now, toying with the knot of your tie like she's contemplating just how it might fall off of you later. Irene shrugs, leaning her weight back against the wall.
She taps a finger to her lips. Ends up saying, very solemn: "Thirty minutes."
As if you had any intention of absconding without her.

Irene holds true to her word - she catches you on the second to last pass around the banquet room. Some executive with a slack mouth is just launching into what sounds to be a spiel about a merger - it's unimportant, not well-versed, so Irene sidles up to you, and immediately steals your attention. It doesn't bother you in the least. She curls her finger into the cuff of your jacket sleeve, and without really being prompted or asked - and only, probably, due to the clear discomfort she has being there with anyone else - she begins dragging you out of the room; you, her ticket out of hell.
"I'm so sorry," Irene dons the industry smile and is probably charming. It's difficult for you to tell. You follow her blindly. "So sorry," she tells someone else as you exit, just before you both disappear entirely, "We're leaving. But, we'll see you next year, promise!"
A real celebrity.
The two of you suddenly a duo - and for everyone’s safety, the way it should probably always ought to be - here’s how it’s all supposed to go:
You, standing almost amidst a bank of snow gathered at the curb, your coat fanned out around Irene, shivers racking up her slight frame. All hidden just enough that if anyone were to notice where your hand ends up arriving at the narrow of her waist, they might think: 'it's not really any of my business,' and look away.
Her, curled beneath your touch - even the single press of your fingers over the small of her back as a stranger pulls a car up to the curb; or, the pull of you that ensures the driver can't actually see what you're both up to, what you're hiding; the little reach she makes into your pocket for a lighter, smiling appreciatively as she presses her cold face to the crook of your arm, your jaw, the juncture of your neck; a safe space.
“So.” Irene will look up at you, pale moonlight gathered in her lashes. She’ll make another face: this thousand kilowatt grin or her brow raising - sharp, quick, there-then-gone. She'll turn the lighter over in her hand once, twice, and say, “how long has it been since we’ve done anything social?”
You’ll know it’s not what she means, but you’ll offer her the out anyway: "could go downtown - there's a place you've probably never been to. Might even play your style of music, if you're really lucky."
Irene will arch her eyebrow as she raises the cigarette to her mouth, lit up before you know it.
"Is that right?" she'll say, dismissive, a smoky tendril curling up over city neon and catching starlight.
You're no stranger to what’s actually being suggested - an unspoken sort of arrangement. All because Irene sees herself as being above, hiding her intentions in euphemism, tact; in long, slow drags; in lilting lashes - while she's fully and shamelessly aware there's nothing virtuous about it.
Who the hell else could make it sound dignified, pretty even: ménage à trois.
Then, you’ll do your part. You’ll help interpret: another girl, gorgeous and probably unclothed, another bad decision, or two, the three of you finding yourselves back in your apartment where Irene will not hesitate to run her tongue up the side of a sweat-glistened neck, to tilt her head and whisper out a mantra of, honey, sweetie, anybody ever tell you how good you look between a woman’s legs? Or, fuck, let’s get you out of those jeans, let me take you all in, how the fuck have we not gotten our hands on you before?
Which means the question you really ought to be asking sounds more like, “maybe we can invite someone over?”
You’ll meet her eyes as they flick up - a lazy expression, easy to read. "Bingo," she’ll say, blowing smoke and even more caution to the wind.
Almost to a fault, everything she does draws attention. Every fool with a blog and a camera posted outside of an event will have her labeled on-sight. You can already see the headline - because the only thing worse than everyone thinking you're the antagonist is looking the part. The imagery, red carpet, sexy evening dress, sultry, regal. The caption, Bae Joohyun - they use her government name like they really know her - sulking in smoke, or thirty flirty and thriving? below a thumbnail of her holding the cigarette, with your suit jacket draped over her shoulders. She's a total tabloid darling. Irene the temptress, or Irene, ice in her veins, or Irene - "How does she look so fucking gorgeous without makeup?!" or "Do I wanna hate her, or wanna be her? @RedFlavor_ROYAL," or "In every shot I feel like Irene has me staring into her soul."
Add that to the fact the girl’s utterly shrouded in myth.
Everyone running amuck with speculation; she's the girl-next-door, she’s the fantasy-in-real-life, she's someone everyone could see themselves fucking - she’s the heroine they say, the villain, the perfect wife, the one-that-got-away. They never do decide.
Though there’s only one opinion she’ll concern herself with, and only on occasion: yours.
Her fingers will come in the dark to trail feather-light from your collarbone, between the rise and fall of your shirt buttons, before pressing open palmed to your chest to still right there, and she's such a pretty thing in the plain black dress, all yours and very much in the mood - which you'll already have reason to know, in part from having felt your way around her no more than a hour prior, but also just the way Irene's been looking at you from beneath her dark lashes all evening, that subtle predatory gleam in her eyes.
You’ll hold her close. Irene will have the audacity to comment, “love you,” in this delicate little whisper, quiet like it could go either way - affection or gratitude. Maybe a touch of both.
A car will shortly arrive, pulling up to the curb with snow melting under its tires, headlights in your eyes, and then finally, in no particular order, your heart hammering: the click of the lighter, the falling ash, the sweet easy laugh, the crunch of ice under foot as she steps down beside you, the soft sweep of your arm.
You have no complaints about the proposal. A lack of argument or dispute is basically the same thing as consent, isn't it? For all intents and purposes, as a whole, it's really kind of a win-win:
Irene needs variety, which you're well aware of. It's only natural for someone who can have anything they want. And, sure, you happen to be a willing participant when it comes to satisfying the occasional whim.
So - the conversation will follow you right into the backseat of the cab, simply to iron out the details. 
“Tall. Beautiful. Soft, soft, soft - like cashmere, a luxury brand," Irene will have one heel off and her knee braced up into the back seat while the other leg extends across your thighs, fingers running along your coat collar to make idle circles against the exposed skin there. "Or, at the very least, someone with a little more bend to their character - you know how those prim and proper types always get a bit lost in you.”
"And wouldn’t you know."
It’ll sound smooth, probably. Irene will roll her eyes.
“So, okay,” you'll return to her, right after instructing the cabbie how to get to Irene's place. None of the implications here are lost on you. “You have anyone particular in mind?”
"Hm, I’m thinking."
You can picture it, roughly: Irene's whole body sunk into the dark corner of the seat - one leg idling over the other. Her foot bouncing at your thigh. She has her heels in one hand, earrings in the other.
She’ll look wistfully out the window; the intermittent flashes of city lights casting her face in different hues. The curve of her jaw; the stately line of her nose; her thick black lashes - composition and subject. It's this kind of attention to detail that the cameras scramble to pick up. It’d be better if they got it for the right reasons.
You’ll pull out your phone. Start the usual scroll from the top of your contacts. The girls you know, the girls you don't, the ones who might be awake or who definitely are, regardless of time of day or night.
Irene will finally perk up, gleaming.
Someone cute, she might say, only because she'd rather not admit, someone like me. There's limits to her vanity insofar as her taste - in all sorts of things.
But she does like the idea of it. Someone young and pretty and impressionable; someone naive, or tiny and helpless; it's never difficult to find the girl who will fawn over her - all wide-eyed and doe-faced the instant Irene floats her fingers across her collarbone, smirking - when she starts at the zipper at the back of her neckline and says, "we’re going to see how wet I can get you," without missing a beat. Someone who will eventually say please when Irene gets a little stern and tells her, "ask me what I'm gonna do to you," in a rasp so smoky that it would make the cigarette seem blasé.
But that, you suppose, is the nature of Irene. A touch domineering. A little more than just a pretty face.
She always takes, but she takes gently - a push here, a pull there, she knows people will give her anything.
It will be more obvious when there's a small voice trembling between the two of you, twisted up in your sheets and simpering with the gentle sort of affection that Irene deals so expertly: two fingers sliding up, pressing down. Curling, beckoning. Slow and tender, without giving up that she's looking for any soft spot; a weak point. Some vulnerability to exploit.

The light will change. The intersection will empty. The radio will turn to static.
You'll eventually offer up a name like, "Jennie Kim," among others. Moving alphabetically down your contacts list. Taking you a long while to make it through the 'K's.
"Hm." Irene's soft hum of disapproval, non-committal. "Are you asking, or telling?"
The difference won't matter. "I'm suggesting," you'll say.
You’ll watch how Irene turns the name over in her mouth a few times before smiling - how she knows, there's the smallest part of you that has her held in a certain light. "Maybe," she'll say, tapping her phone against her cheek in the contemplation of whether or not this is a tentative no or a provisional yes - when really what she'll avoid an answer with is, "aren’t we a little tired of Jen?"
Tough to say.
Good, sweet, and just naive enough to get twisted up between you, in her case. Oh, Jennie’s the type of girl - you'll stuff your cock in her pretty little cunt while leaning into her, taking her arms and pinning them to the base of her spine, so she can't reach and can't claw and can't make an utter fucking wreck of herself. The few that fall afterwards will never make the cut. Irene will turn them all down. Jisoo - no, sorry, look, she's so, so pretty, Irene will be trying to explain, gesturing in a way that's hard to interpret. "But a little too stuck up for my tastes."
You've been speaking in code for years. She means: way, way, way too straight.
"The blonde though," Irene will try right after that. “Daisy, or Lily, oh god something or another, what was her name-”
"Um, do you mean Rosé?”
“Yeah.” Irene will sink back into the leather, sipping down a memory or two and shifting her skirt up the top of her thighs.
You'll consider the angle. Your options: Rosé on her knees right inside the foyer of your apartment, Irene's hands wrapped tightly in her hair, controlling the rhythm. The way she gets her fingers spread under Irene's knees and draws her forward, pushing up with her eager, prying mouth - licks and licks, nosing against the heat of Irene's pussy until she’s gasping and locking her hands around the younger girl's head to steady the jerk of her hips.

His lip is quirked up slightly, but Alberu would bet a golden plaque that Cale hasn’t a single idea on what he looks like right now, otherwise he wouldn’t be even half as relaxed as he is right now.
He resembles a lazy cat. He’s being pet whilst lounging, with a content and pleased expression edging on his face. If this goes on long enough, Cale might even fall asleep.
Alberu continues talking without letting his smile leak through into his words, stroking the top of Cale’s head in an absent minded motion.
(Cale ignores the sneaking chill on the back of his neck, too focused on Alberu’s words about the kingdom. The petting is a bit strange, but Alberu is the crown prince, so he’ll allow it.)
As predicted, Cale doesn’t mention it.
After a minute though, Cale starts to frown, beginning to acknowledge the feeling that he’s being scammed somehow.
“Hyung, do you have a headache?”
Alberu acts like a polite and caring hyung, starting to massage Cale’s head.
(Cale frowns more. Something is definitely going on.)

Alberu preens at finding Cale’s weakness.
On slyly asks Rosalyn to do up Cale’s hair one day- as an experiment- and is extremely pleased when Cale not only agrees, but he closes his eyes and falls asleep soon after the Mage is done gently tugging his hair into place and adorning it with intricate pins and accessories. Choi Han walks in on this scene and threatens Rosalyn to keep it a secret (after melting a bit on the inside). She agrees with a sly smile.
If only Cale knew how everyone was going to use this to scam him in the future…
Eventually the misconception that Cale likes to have his hair played with goes around the entire group. Cale- of course- is completely clueless. He just thinks that everyone suddenly became obsessed with his hair.
Ron is the only one who can’t get Cale to relax. Even Bud somewhat managed it, but Cale stays vigilant no matter what his old butler does. Ron finds his puppy young master to be amusing.
Cale really doesn’t understand what they want with his hair. Do they want his hair?

It's a game that really wants you to look at it from every angle, take it apart, and ask questions about loïc, ysmé, their stories, and what they believe to be true about the world and one another. subtext -- especially the charged subtext this story throws at you and hopes you'll piece together -- is a beautiful thing.

the number of talksprites in this demo is kind of staggering
the jrpg-inspired world of the mosaic and its surroundings is as vibrant as it is profoundly lonely, color folded into every facet of its character as you move through it. appropriately, it's really invested in a lot of questions that arise not just from high fantasy as a genre, but from the modern fantasy sensibilities of jrpgs and the interrogation of what divinity even means in a world where the gods are forces you can interact with and draw power from, however indirectly.
what can i even say? that gg and toby fox's collab score for the prelude is downright heavenly and made it onto my work playlist right alongside the deltarune ost the day it came out on bandcamp? that gg's art, especially their use of light, conveys every scene with vivid beauty?

beyond all of that, i think the game's main resonance point with people is that gg's writing is genuinely thoughtful. they use art detail and deft character writing to convey everything about the leads, using the limited time you get with it to paint layers and layers of information on who these people are and why they make the decisions they do. soulsov's roughly an-hour-and-change of text, expressive talksprites, and lush CGs is infused with so much heart and so much horror and so much intrigue that it leaves you feeling like you're a part of this world, carried along for the ride right alongside the two leads. gg clearly really adores these two, and that level of passion makes everything loïc and ysmé do shine even brighter. in spite of (or perhaps because of) all their friction and flaws, they're easy to love.

ok, @craftychahuhu, this one's for you! but also for anyone else who might find it interesting. so we were talking about drafting fibre, and how to tell if it's hard to draft, and what it looks like when it's drafting well, and i was like, well, i have fibre and a camera, i can make this everyone's problem!
so: some fibre.

from the top left and going clockwise (ish):, the blue and yellow is rambouillet, the green is lonk, the dark blue is polwarth, the circle sort of in the middle is a merino/bond cross, the sausage is a rolag that i ended up not using in this but i'll talk about a little anyhow, and the dense white guy at the bottom left is corriedale.
let's talk about these fibres! i picked them for a couple reasons, but if i'm honest, the most pressing ones were that i had easy access to them and with the exception of the lonk, they're all fibres that i'd more or less group together into the 'very fine' category. no, they're not all identical, but for our purposes here, they're close enough. the lonk is a much coarser fibre, and it's here mostly to serve as a counterpoint to the rest—beginners are often pointed towards coarser fibres, and the lonk will make clear why that's the case!
(sidebar: if you have ideas about what i should do with the lonk, please feel free; i think i have about 300g and no specific plans.)
onward! let's talk about each of these individually.
blue and yellow rambouillet: this is commercial top that i dyed. i like rambouillet! it looks pretty ok! this fibre sucks.
green lonk: again, commercial top that i dyed. looks good. is actually good.
blue polwarth: wow, again, commercial top that i dyed. shocker. i love this and it's also actually good.
merino/bond circle: this is top that i processed from raw fleece and hand combed probably five minutes before i took this photo. again, it's good.
rolag: most people on tumblr are making rolags with blending boards and/or drum carders, and those are a very different beast to ones made on hand cards! handcarded ones are fluffy little sausages. i was going to show you this drafted out like i do the others, but honestly, rolags don't really draft like that. if there's a part two of this, i'll spin one to show the difference.
corrie: back to commercially processed top. it's also good.
because i wanted to show the difference between good fibre and bad fibre, i'm not actually spinning these, though i can do that if someone wants. instead, i'm predrafting them so that you can see how good fibre vs bad fibre looks.
i have to stress that this is a little subjective, but...uh, but it's my blog and i can talk about my opinions if i want.
more seriously, i've been spinning for over twenty years, and dyeing for probably ten of them, and i have a pretty good idea of what's reasonable to expect from fibre. that said, two things. first, i rarely predraft things, so what i'm doing in these videos isn't really part of my usual workflow. second, because of the limitations of my little tripod stand and the need for my hands to be in frame, i'm doing this in a very weird direction, so it's a little jerkier and less even than it would be under normal circumstances. i think it still conveys the point, though.
spare yourself the headphones—none of these videos have sound, because my neighbours who i hate are still doing fucking construction and the soundtrack to these is just like. clunking and whirring.
let's start with the corrie, which is pretty easy to find.

it takes me a minute to get started, but once i do, see how it pulls apart mostly smoothly? (the lack of smoothness in this and several of the other videos is the weird angle that i was talking about earlier.)
look at my wrists and hands. i have ehlers-danlos syndrome, so i'm more likely to use the middle joint of my thumb to pull, but other than potentially the weird thumb position, things are pretty loose. i'm not jerking on the top, my back hand is pretty loose, and all up, things move pretty smoothly.
this is what top should do. if you're having to really yank on it, if you have to dig your fingers into it, etc, it's not great top. it might still be usable, but you definitely shouldn't be using it as a starter fibre.
ok, so let's look at the polwarth, which for the purposes of this post we'll say is indie dyed. close enough.

as before, the weird angle isn't doing us any favours, but all things considered, this drafts out pretty easily. dyed fibre is almost always at least a little harder to draft than undyed is, but it shouldn't be that much harder.
again, you can look at my hands and fingers. the hand holding most of the fibre is still fairly loose—the thumb on that hand is doing most of the actual holding. it's more work than the undyed commercial stuff, but it's not difficult by any stretch of the imagination.
i also want to point out that i'm not a professional dyer! i'm just some guy who sometimes dyes things in their kitchen. if you're buying from indie dyers, it shouldn't be much harder to draft out than this is. (if you're buying from commercial places—ashford's dyed top, for example—it should draft more or less like the commercial corrie did.)
ok so next up, let's look at the handcombed top.

this drafts out so easy! handcombed top isn't as dense or as tightly packed as commercial top, plus all the fibres are going in the same direction, so it drafts out really smoothly.
last two. i think it's time to look at...the bad fibre.

fuckin yikes, hey. the weird thing about this one is that it basically looks ok—right until you get your hands on it. look how tight the hand holding the braid is. look how i'm trying so hard to get a grip on the part that i'm pulling out that my whole thumb flattens out, hoping to get more weight on it. look how my knuckles and my fingernails turn white!
the fibre doesn't want to move, and when it does, it's usually in a big clump that moves very fast, then immediately stops moving again.
fibre shouldn't be like this. this fibre is super compacted, and also a little bit felted. imo, if you buy from a dyer and get fibre like this—not just for the first few centimetres, but all the way through—you shouldn't buy from them again. this fibre is not being buddies.
but can you make it work? i wouldn't recommend it when you're learning to spin, but yeah, you probably can. i've used about half of this braid on various junk projects.
to make this more usable, you can split the braid in two (or more) pieces, unfold it as much as possible, and fluff it out. i've wondered if this would be a good application for steaming roving, but this is the only really compacted piece i have, so i haven't tried it.
it's still probably not going to be a joy to spin, but it can be usable, if you really want it to be. if you have the interest and tools, you might have better luck reprocessing it—i've used some of that braid practicing making rolags, for example, and it's been solidly fine for that, since i'm pulling it all apart anyhow.
if you're learning, though, and your fibre's behaving like this, please put that fibre down and try something else.
finally, let's look at the lonk!

again, nice loose grip, and despite being dyed, those fibres are totally happy to pull out pretty evenly. it drafts smoothly, and it requires very little effort on my part to do so. which is, i think, the big advantage to using coarser wools as a beginner, even if you don't love the texture of them. it's a lot easier to learn the movements on something that's not actively fighting you, and once you've got the movements down, it's a lot easier to do them on something that resists a little bit more.
i'm not saying you can't (or shouldn't) learn on the ultrafine merino of your heart or whatever, but if you're new to spinning and you're finding it a struggle, it's maybe worth trying some coarser fibres and seeing if that helps.
anyhow, hopefully that's an ok overview of how to tell if your fibre is actually doing what it's meant to do or not. if you think it'd help you to have a video of any of this being drafted while spinning, let me know—it turns out it's pretty easy to throw my phone in the little tripod thing and then clip out the bits that are useful.

Episode Two: The Running Man
It's odd how little gets said about this ep, considering it's the most direct homage the earlier anime adaptation - but maybe that might be why? Since, as I said, this was my entry into the story, to me it felt out of place. It seemed like it was doing all it could to distract from how the previous ep concluded.
With hindsight, I think that's the idea.

The opening with the radio! I'm so weirdly fond of it. Yeah it's a flashback, but it shows Vash in a private moment without his mask; a glimpse of his secrets. He's not wearing his coat, so you get a look at how broad his shoulders are; he's also handling the tools to maintain his gun skilfully for someone who claims he's not a fighter. As he's contemplating the crash - he was there, obviously, and he has the photo of him, Rem and Nai still - the radio host says without the Plants, our ancestors would have died out long ago. How long ago? Long enough that Vash likely shouldn't still look such a gosh darn pretty boy? Yet it slips by.
(I do not understand the complaints that Stampede had no mystery.)
This is the episode where he's most committed to the bit of being cute but sort of hapless and silly, too, so the contrast is dramatic. I don't think he was actually expecting Meryl and Roberto to clear his name all at once, but I do think he was hoping, I don't know, maybe they'd believe him from the first. But nothing's ever that easy for my boy. I gotta say, Vash, optimism has its limits. Your story is that you're being framed by your previously unknown identical twin brother. You know it's true, I know it's true, but you might have had an easier time with some, I don't know… evidence? It's not surprising the reporters are sceptical.

He's being melodramatic, but I suspect also more sincere than what comes across - which is the whole reason he exaggerates, of course. (What? No, I'm not talking from experience. I have never, ever done this. Never ever in A MILLION YEARS have I exaggerated to obfuscate my sincerity.) The angle changes to show his face, and it's pretty clear how genuinely exhausted and upset even the thought of Knives makes him. Though it is still pretty funny that Meryl just isn't having it.
Also funny: Meryl versus the Worms, round one. Worms 1, Meryl 0.

Roberto greeting Tonis is really cute. He's a grump, but he's never an asshole to kids.
Ahhhh Tonis gives Vash his bugs and Vash pats his head and then he moves to take his hand away Tonis grabs it so he'll keep doing it and then when Rosa tells Tonis to leave Vash look dismayed and waves goodbye and it is so cute and IT IS SO SAD.
Because Rosa loves her son, wants him healthy and happy and safe, wants him shielded from the violence of the world and from decisions like pulling a gun on the hero of your town who's been nothing but good to you, better than you deserve - and yet we saw Rosa come to the decision that she would do this last episode. Right about... here. See the way she moves from standing in front of him, almost protectively, to beside him, clearing the way? By the look on her face, she doesn't want to. Vash proved himself yet again afterwards, saved the town without hesitation the moment it was endangered at great risk to himself. He's a good man, a friend, someone she trusts. But it's not him Rosa's thinking of now. It's not even the town. It's Tonis.
I have to say, Roberto doesn't look shocked or concerned. He just wearily sets down his mug and raises his hands, expression unchanged. Meanwhile Meryl's turned into a cartoon.

Vash understands. He didn't fight back against the MPs. He didn't instigate the duel. It's because of him that this is necessary. That just doesn't mean he's going to make it easy for them.

Ah, that old Stampede special: the undignified leg-spread landing.
Man the English dub is good, but it's this episode I started to realise how good. It's incredibly funny. "The furious fists of the Nebraska Family challenge you to a duel!" "Felt the fury right there!" "Money! Come back!" "I hope you like pancakes, because you're going to become one!"
There's one translation I'm not sold on, though, and it's Nebraska declaring "Power is justice! Power is truth!" I had the same problem in Persona 5 Royal when I played it and the characters kept going on about how they'll "prove our justice". It sounds so awkward.
From what I can tell, the word they're using translates more clearly to "moral rightness" or "righteousness", and the score title for Stampede renders what Nebraska says better: might is right. He's advocating Social Darwinism, basically. It's the natural order of the world: the strong deserve to flourish, the weak deserve to perish.
Nebraska: I hate cowards like you! This whole planet is fighting for survival! Anyone who runs is bound to die like a sorry loser! But you, Stampede! How dare you?! / You coward! I despise waste-of-life cream puffs like you! You have to fight tooth and nail to survive in this world! If those who can't hack it run away and die like chickens, then so be it! But you? I expected more, Stampede!
Vash: You might be right that I'm too timid. But is that such a terrible thing? Is fighting everything head-on so important? Even if it gets someone killed? / Okay, I may not be the bravest, but what's so terrible about being a little timid? Is fighting head-on always right? It risks lives, and for what?
Nebraska: Weapons… are made for fighting! Do you get it now?! There's no future for those who don't fight! / I might as well, huh? It's what the damn thing's made for! That'll show ya! Any snivelling slug too scared to fight must die!
Vash: Come on, can you back off? I really don't want to fight anyone. / Can you guys cool it for a second? I'm really not in the mood for violence.
Nebraska: That's the attitude that pisses me off! / When the world ends, will it ask if you're in the mood?
It's kinda funny that Nebraska keeps going on about it, though, because he also keeps demanding accommodation for his son's weakness. If he was really committed he'd rely only on himself instead of endangering Gofsef. And yet oddly enough, it's the hypocrisy which saves him, because it's how Rosa realises how much they have in common. He loves Gofsef, just like she loves Tonis, and Vash forgives them both.

I think the reason this feels like it's all happening so fast is because this is the place where an episode of the older adaptation would end, leaving some implied time to pass before the next crisis. But this isn't twenty-six self-contained episodes, it's twelve instalments of one story. The running man must continue to run, because it was never humans he was running from.

E.G. launches his assault, though the drones had been patrolling since the previous night. Vash was about to leave when he heard the scream from the diner and rushed back to help. And so he stayed long enough for E.G.'s master to arrive in person.
Whatever happened in Jeneora Rock, it seems it was necessary for Vash to witness it, so E.G. had instructions to keep him in place.

No. 33 - Vietnam Airlines

@twtd11 has asked me to cover Vietnam Airlines! And also two other airlines, but those don't need mentioning in this post, because this post is about Vietnam Airlines.

Vietnam Airlines is part of a very interesting trend. Inexplicably, it is very popular for airlines to make the top of their planes blue and the bottom white. Specifically blue. But unlike the more comprehensive sort of trend like...cheatlines, or Eurowhite...this phenomenon, which I'm sure I'll come up with a catchy name for in a timely manner, never manifests the same twice.
There are a lot of examples of it, and I plan to cover all of them if I can. I've already talked about Korean Air, but other examples on the docket include KLM, TUI, Azal Azerbaijan Airlines, Aerolíneas Argentinas, Air Tahiti Nui, and of course Vietnam Airlines.

I'm not surprised that they got requested fairly early on in this blog's lifespan for the simple reason that they're very striking planes. When I first saw a Vietnam Airlines plane I'll admit it - I was pretty wowed.

I mean, just look at these planes. There is something so absurdly captivating about the blue they've chosen for their livery's primary shade, and I just can't wrap my head around it fully. Even more than other planes, it looks entirely different in different lightings, going from a sort of metallic teal to a sharp cerulean.

Of course, blue alone couldn't accomplish that. The choice to pair it with gold was really what made this livery coalesce, but once they have this gorgeous color combination, this vast untouched blue bordered by gold, the colors speak for themselves.

The emblem on the tail is very simple in terms of its shape, easy to recognize from a distance, It requires no detail save what can be expressed with negative space and thus doesn't need much to tie it into the rest of the fuselage - the gold stripe more than succeeds in making the integration smooth. It provides a large image that can be seen from far away, and I think it's both distinctive and elegant. I would say it could be improved by replacing the white with a lighter gold, but I actually did think that it was a lighter gold until I looked closer because of the crazy things this livery does with color.

Allowing the blue to take up most of the fuselage was absolutely the right move. It looks like a completely different color in every picture of it I've shown so far but it's always absolutely gorgeous. The interplay of blue, gold, and light hitting it is just spectacular to the point I've gotten this far in without even mentioning, say, the wordmark, which is fine but absolutely doesn't matter. Because this plane is a sea of whichever blue is your favorite, if you catch it at the right angle.

Nothing on this plane is detailed. Everything is large-scale, big sweeping lines and massive blocks of color, like it's all painted on with a massive brush. The logo isn't limited to the tail but it also isn't integrated into most of the fuselage. It just takes up the amount of space it takes up, not recognizing any sort of arbitrary boundary between tailfin and fuselage. There is a near absence of straight lines. Everything is curved and flowing and perfectly placed.

I hadn't been able to tell for sure if the underside of the plane was cream or white, but I have been informed that it is, in fact, a light cream. It's perfectly chosen. It lets the gold seem like the trim it is instead of a discrete block of color. It accentuates, similar to KAL's grey dividing line, but instead of facilitating a transition from blue to white it facilitates the blue's constant metamorphosis into something that's so much more than an essentially monocolor plane has any right to be.
Also, it makes the plane look a lot more fishlike, which is always good.

I think too much more detail would overwhelm this color combination, just because of how much of a statement it is upfront. It is an incredibly confident move to release a plane that clearly is trying to get away from the pack but has barely any features, and have those features it does have collide so elegantly into something so much larger than the sum of its parts.

There is a part of me that keeps fighting my conclusion, insisting to myself that it's mostly blue space, and ultimately it's inevitable. The fact that I'm having so much trouble limiting my selection of pictures because each one feels like it's a discrete different shade of blue kind of proves that to me. It's so simple, yet every single angle shows it off in a new way. If I ever saw one of these planes in person I wouldn't be able to look at anything else while it was within eyesight, and that just ultimately has to speak for itself, doesn't it?

WIP Wednesday: another snippet from the Sansan hockey AU I pretty much only work on during intermissions lol
Practices are always light in between series - limited to freeskates, mostly. It leaves the boys loads of time to talk. Sandor is well-used to ignoring them, but it gets more difficult when the phones come out and they start huddling and whispering like school boys with a nudie mag. He intervenes when it becomes obvious Jamie is being aggressively oblivious.
"Fuck's going on over here?"
Redwyne nearly pisses himself. "Nothing."
"Like hell. Either tell me what's more important than practice or get back on the ice."
"Nothing is more important than practice, sir!" Pod chirps happily. He looks like he means it, damn him.
"Don't call me 'sir,' kid," Sandor grumbles, knowing full well it won't do any good. As predicted, Pod just continues to hide his general fear of Sandor behind an absent, amiable smile. "If practice is so important to you, why are you over here?"
"Saving energy?" Hetherspoon offers, but the idiot draws attention to himself at exactly the wrong time and Sandor merely squints at him until he turns up the phone he'd been trying to sneak under his garter.
Sandor sighs. "Locker room, you twit."
The lad begins to oblige, but Bettley stops him. "Actually, Hound, you might wanna see this." The two exchange a look, but it's Sandor who cringes with Hetherspoon. "I think you'll like it," Bettley continues.
It's an understatement, not that Sandor can say as much. When Hetherspoon turns the phone his way, Sandor has the unique experience of being thankful for the thick, gnarled skin of his face for the way it must cover his blush. On screen, Joffrey Baratheon's pretty girlfriend poses for a mirror selfie in Sandor's jersey and little else. 'Onto the next one' the caption reads, along with a rose and lion emoji to make it clear she's referring to their oncoming series. 
He feigns ignorance. "What am I looking at, exactly?"
"Sansa Stark," Redwyne supplies stupidly. Sandor cuts him a look. "Joffrey Baratheon's ex?"
Ex. Trying hard as he can to stop that train of thought from even leaving the station, Sandor turns back to the phone still being thrust in his direction.
Mistake.
Hetherspoon swipes and the photo changes. She's on her tummy now, the camera angled to only show a corner of her pretty face as his name and numbers writ large across her back seems to be the focus. She's wearing thigh high socks - Casterly colors. Her cute little feet are held aloft, bisecting the neat, feminine bedroom visible in the background. The caption of this one congratulates him on his game winning goal in game five. There are more emojis. A lion/dog combo that's easy enough to interpret, but he has no idea what the remaining jumble is meant to convey. Perhaps that she's dehydrated? There's a lot of water droplets.
Sandor huffs exaggeratedly. "Am I meant to care about some puck slut posing for risque pictures?"
"That's Ned Stark's daughter," Pod objects. 
Redwyne adds, "What're you drowning in options, Hound?"
He outright shakes at the glare Sandor levels him with. 
"She's not a puck… girl," Pod insists, oblivious.
"Some young bird I've never met posting pictures on an app I don't even have and had no way of seeing before you idiots decided to butt in isn't exactly an option either, is it?" It's a blow to the pride to say in front of these shites, but has the desired effect of chastising them. "Quit wasting my time. Phones away and get back to work."

France, 1944
A few nights later, a bunch of sergeants get drunk during a poker game and wreck the barracks. Bunks are torn piece from piece. From what she hears of it later, fists and sharp words both fly as they take out their tension on each other. Based on the damage Bill and Shifty (one of Easy Company’s newly appointed sergeants) describe to her later, it’s a night they’ll pay for dearly.
Except there’s no time for that.
The order reaches them first thing the next morning. “After breakfast, stand fast.”
“What’dya reckon they mean by that?” Popeye asks as they make their way from the barracks.
“Nothing good,” McClung sighs.
Zenie is just sitting down with her food at breakfast when a hand on her shoulder practically drags her off the bench. Eugene’s brows are furrowed and his lips are pressed into a severe line. For once, his attitude is as dark as his hair – something Zenie never would have thought possible, even after what she’s overheard about his response to Winters and Welsh when they didn’t know how to help Captain Heyliger after he was shot.
“How many bandages you got?” He asks in a low voice when they’ve stepped out of everyone’s earshot.
Zenie blinks, trying to comprehend the suddenness of his question. “Huh?”
“Bandages. How many you got? And health sponges, too. You been usin’ ‘em?”
“I haven’t needed any in a while. And I think I have one role left. Why?”
“Here, take these.” Angling himself so that no one can see the transaction, he presses a role of bandages into Zenie’s hand. She quickly shoves them into her jacket. As soon as it’s over, Eugene is firing more questions at her. “You gone to the bathroom this mornin’?”
Doc Roe might know quite a bit about Zenie and her situation, but getting so many rapid-fire personal questions at such an early hour still takes her aback. When she doesn’t answer, he repeats the question with more pressure.
“You better go now,” he warns. “While no one’s around.”
“But my breakfast – “
“I’ll guard it for you. Hurry. You ain’t got much time, and you won’t be able to be alone for a while.”
“Why? Gene, what’s going on?”
There’s limited time and Eugene has told her as much. Still, he lets out a short sigh through his nose and leans in further, just in case.
“Don’t tell anyone, comprenez vous?” She doesn’t speak French, but she gets the gist. “They just told the medics that we’re movin’ out after breakfast. Lots of travelin’ ahead.”
“To where?”
Gene’s eyes dance around the room as he replies, “I dunno yet. But they’re talkin’ like it’s pretty far.”
Not willing to waste any more time, Zenie rushes to the latrine and back, ignoring the wondering looks her friends give her when she returns and takes her seat, which Roe has been occupying, as promised, hunched over her plate. Babe frowns as Gene vacates her seat and heads off again, on the move. She brushes off their questions and bolts her breakfast, leaving her coffee untouched and not even daring to think about water as a just in case.  
They all finish their meal. Nothing happens. Stand fast. Nothing new. Hurry up and wait.
With nowhere to go, they clean the barracks. Zenie can feel someone’s eyes on her the entire time. Babe throws her a strange look every now and then, his brow furrowed and his expression thoughtful as they waste time. Under her friend’s watchful gaze, she has to be extra careful as she stashes her new roll of bandages in her belongings.
Something pokes her finger as she shoves the roll into the bottom of her bag. Careful to keep the bandages covered, she grabs the sharp edge and tugs it out; her postcard from the Eiffel Tower. She smiles at the memories, smiles at the thought of beating Marilyn to the landmark.
Unless, she realizes, her sister has beat her there. Travelling with the Red Cross, there’s no telling where Marilyn has been. And it’s not like Zenie would know.
It’s a bad idea, she knows as she takes a pen from her bag and scrawls on the card. She shouldn’t do it because it’s risky, she tells herself as she slaps on a stamp. But, she reasons, if she sends the card home, her mother will get it and know that she’s okay – and then her small brag will reach her sister.
When no one is looking, Zenie slips the postcard into a bag of mail that’s due to go out soon. Hopefully no one will read too much into “Dear Marilyn, Think I beat you here. – Z.”
There’s a movie playing. Zenie’s seen it before. She takes a seat toward the back of the room and smiles when Shifty seats himself in the chair beside her. When the lights go down, he moves his hand so that it rests on his leg between their chairs. Zenie does the same and smiles into the darkness when he curls his pinky finger around hers.
This is more than pressing their knees together in foxholes. This is better.
“What do you think is going on?” she whispers as the movie’s score soars over the opening credits.
From the corner of her eye, she can see him bite his bottom lip as he considers the possibilities.
“I don’t know,” he says finally. “But interruptin’ R and R like this?” He shakes his head. “I doubt it’s good.”
“They can’t send us back. We have no gear. What do they want us to do?”
There’s a commotion from the front of the room.
“Shut up!” Joe insists, turning around to face Luz. “I’m trying to watch!”
Other men shush them. Zenie waits for the noise to die down before she whispers again.
“At least we got to go to Paris first. No more wondering and avoiding.”
Shifty tightens his finger around hers. “No more,” he agrees.
“I love this part!” Luz exclaims from the front of the room. Even with his back to her, Zenie can picture the expression he uses for this particular impression – one that he’s very proud of. In a low, sultry voice he begins asking, enunciating a different word every time, “Got a penny? Got a penny? Got a penny?!”
“Got a penny?” The movie asks, making George erupt into laughter. He’s so loud that she thinks Joe might spin around and knock his lights out.
Whatever he’s planning, he doesn’t get the chance. With no warning, the doors at the back of the room fly open. Zenie and Shifty jump apart as if electrocuted while footsteps, hard and fast, march past them and to the front of the room. “Quiet!” A voice booms before anyone has the chance to properly protest.
The lights come up and the movie sputters to a stop. Now the men begin to protest. Booing and cries of “Awe, come on!” join the cacophony of Zenie’s pounding heart. Surely no one saw them, even though they were taken by surprise. She can only hope.
“I said quiet!” The order is repeated. This time, the crowd falls silent. Just in time to hear the announcement of, “Elements of the 1st and the 6th SS Panzer Divisions have broken through in the Ardennes Forest.”
Through the crowd, Zenie can see Luz throw his head back – a telltale sign that he’s giving a dramatic eye roll. Though other men are hanging their heads in disappointment, George’s reaction is what they all surely feel as the realizations set in: no more passes to Paris; no more movies; no more Rest and Relaxation. It’s back to the line for Easy Company.
Mutters break out before the announcement is properly finished as people start speculating about what it all means, how it will all play out. After all, there’s nothing for them to fight with, they’re keen to remind each other. Although the people sending them off should know that.
They file out of the theater, lips pressed into thin lines that are more severe than when the order of the day was simply “stand fast.”
“Favorite movie and I didn’t even get to finish it,” Luz complains.
Joe sighs. “Luz, you weren’t even watching the damn thing.”
“No but I was enjoying it, and that’s what matters.”
“Probably won’t be enjoyin’ anything for a while now,” Popeye muses.
“Yeah,” Zenie agrees. “Not if it’s like Holland – just sitting around in foxholes and waiting.”
Amongst the choir of muttered protests from the clumps of soldiers, one question rings out loud and clear: where the hell is Bastogne?

Like that night in June, they pat their friends on the back and wish each other well. Except this time there’s no ice cream, no specific knowledge of where they’re going, no plan for when they get there. More importantly, they have precious little equipment. And hardly a chance to say goodbye.
Zenie’s fingers tingle with the memory of Shifty quickly intertwining their fingers together before boarding the planes. There’s no chance for anything like that now, with everyone rushing around, trying to figure out what’s going on. Instead, she has to settle for flashing him a smile while Popeye offers her a smack on the shoulder when they go their separate ways.
The effort that it took to help load their fellow soldiers into the C-47s is missing as well. Rumbling engines tear through the velvety black night, the truck’s floors shaking as they jump into the backs with what little gear they have. The planes had been solemn and filled with excitement and prayers. These trucks are packed full of people who huddle for warmth, and air gauzy with cigarette smoke in their pitiful attempts to warm themselves up and pass the time.
For the hundredth time in this war, Zenie thanks God for Gene. If he hadn’t warned her, she would have been crammed into the back of this truck with no warning. And as they rumble along in their endless journey, he begins to feel more and more like some sort of guardian angel.
“I just wanna know where they’re sendin’ us,” Babe says as they bounce along. “What the hell are we gonna do with no ammo?”
Over all the noise, from where she sits, Zenie can hear the drivers of their truck pause their conversation when they hear Babe’s question. Their part of the Red Ball Express. She remembers seeing articles in the papers about them after the jump back in June. If anyone knows anything about where they’re going, surely it will be them. She shifts towards them.
“Have y’all been to where we’re going?” Her question startles them.
The driver and the man in the passenger seat share a weary look. Not a good sign.
“Yes,” the driver finally answers.
“That bad, huh?”
“Oh yeah, you could say that,” the man in the passenger seat agrees. “That’s why you guys have to walk the last leg of the journey.”
“Why?” The words have no sooner left her mouth when the truck shakes, followed by a loud, booming sound that reminds her of summer thunderstorms shaking the house at night.
“That’s why,” the driver says. “Besides, we have more men to move.”
These drivers have a job to do, same as the paratroopers. War is a machine, and every outfit is a small piece that operates in it. That much has become obvious after successful operations, like Overlord, and not so successful ones, like Market Garden.
“You need four pairs of socks, minimum!” Skip Muck calls over the sounds of the truck. He’s lounging on the floor of the truck bed, which is the only place where there was space left for him. In his cramped position, he frees one of his hands to count on his fingers as he lectures one of the replacements traveling with them. “Feet, hands, neck, balls.”
“Extra socks warms ‘em all,” the rest of the men finish in unison.
“Yay, we all remember that one!” Muck exclaims. “But no one remembered the socks.”
The trucks begin growling to a stop as the booming of explosions and the cracking of gunfire draw closer. Men attempt to stand as tail gates are lowered, and then they’re hopping to the ground on numb legs – a jump from nowhere near as spectacular heights as on D-Day. Someone makes a joke about a tailgate jump.
“Thanks, y’all.” Zenie taps the edge of her helmet and nods to her drivers as she moves to leave the truck.
“You’re southern, too,” her driver notes. “Where from?”
Too, he had said. It’s been so rare to find men who aren’t taken aback by y’all.
“North Carolina. The mountains. What about you?”
The driver grins. “North Carolina – the piedmont!” They laugh over their shared geography.
“Seems like everyone else is from Pennsylvania.”
The man in the passenger seat waves. “That would be me.”
It’s Zenie’s turn now to exit the truck. Before she does, she flashes them both a smile. “Well, I’ll see y’all back at home.” She leaves the truck feeling a little better than when she climbed into it.
The biting cold threatens to dispel any warmth that has entered into her heart, though. Around her, men all step around some parked trucks to relieve themselves after the long ride. Others bustle through the crowd with gasoline containers which they dump into pits in the ground. Tall flames blaze to life when a book of matches is tossed onto them, and men eagerly gather around them for warmth, drawn in like moths to a flame.
Footsteps approach. More men coming to get warm –
“Christ,” Babe mutters around his cigarette.
Columns of men appear, but they aren’t heading for the fires. Darkness cannot hide the grim and fearful expressions that haunt their features as they trudge past. Zenie and Babe gawk at them. The passing men won’t meet their eyes.
“Bill! Bill, Joe, look at this!” Babe exclaims.
Their friends appear beside them, adding to the onlookers.
Bill has never looked more confused in his life. “Hey, you’re goin’ the wrong way!”
From the corner of her eye, Zenie catches a flash of familiar movement; McClung and Popeye passing by. She steps away and follows them to one of the fires. Falling into place beside Earl, she stretches her hands towards the open flames, trying to catch the warmth while she can.
“What’s that all about?” Earl asks, nodding towards the lines of men leaving the very place that Easy Company has just been ordered into. No one asks the real question: what they hell are they sending us into now?
They don’t have to wonder for long. The men leaving Bastogne begin handing over any spare gear and ammo that they can. Easy Company men load themselves down until their hands are full, and then try to find someone else to hand off extra supplies to. Zenie finds herself weighed down with three bandoliers and a knife. She hands off some grenades to Joe and pockets half a pack of cigarettes that one retreating man presses into her hands.
The parade has hardly ended when Easy Company receives the word to keep moving. With whatever borrowed weapons and ammunition that they can carry, they start off in the opposite direction of the retreating soldiers. The world shakes with gunfire as they push through the darkness, following the road.
“Huh, would you look at that.” Bill nods up at a sign that stands on the road. It’s got arrows pointing every which way, giving every sprawling road before them a name. “It really is a crossroads.”
Without looking back, they gather their courage and follow the arrow pointing towards a place labeled Bastogne.

Summary: How the great hero DayDream met the newbie

This sucked.
Roman was sent on a mission to stop and capture a speedster villain. The villain was one of the slower speedsters since they got all their power from their suit, and was considered a D-list villain. With his enhanced stamina and strength, Roman knew he could catch up to the speedster in no time. Though the hero agency had failed to tell their star pupil just how long the villain could run for.
   After running the entire length of the city 7 times and running into a LOT of streetlights and mailboxes, the villain decided to run out of the city limits just as the sky was getting dark. Luckily for Roman, after 5 hours of running the boots that gave the villain their powers finally ran out of power letting Roman finally catch up with them.
   Though thanks to his stupid human body (and the fact his broken toes haven’t healed fully from his last mission) he was exhausted from his all day marathon run across the city. Once Roman was finally able to throw a punch the villain pitifully pushed him down and started pounding at him. Punch after punch hit after hit till the villain finally had enough and decided to grab their things and leave. 
   Roman laid in the grass in some field unable to move thanks to his soar, exhausted body and his newly acquired broken ribs and mashed nose. Normally he’d just drag himself home but he couldn’t feel his legs and every neuron in his arms screamed in unison from pain. 
   “God this is annoying.” Roman thought out loud knowing no one was around to hear. “This will be easy," they said. “Just catch the villain,” they said. “Do a good job and you can have your birthday cake," they said." Roman knew they were lying from the beginning but he didn’t realize how much this would suck. 
   This wasn’t how he wanted to spend his birthday. He wanted to catch the villain, go home, eat his sugar free cake and hopefully be able to watch tv for the rest of the day. Maybe he would have gotten a present from his mom this year. After all, he's finally 17. He was so close to graduating the jr hero program and entering the adult one. He had always fantasized of hopefully being able to choose his own costume and maybe even getting his own room. He had even heard from some of the mentors that the hero’s in the adult league are allowed to have girlfriends or boyfriends! How amazing would that be to finally kiss someone. 
   Roman stared at the sky for hours waiting for the agency to send someone to grab him but as the moon settled just above his head he realized no one was coming. At least for a while. This was his punishment for letting the villain get away. Roman groaned at this realization and cursed out loud. “Oh yeah guys real fucking mature. What a great idea to leave me in a fucking field in buttfuck nowhere.” He felt hot tears run down his face. With this royal fuck up they’d surely push back his graduation. 
   Once the moon found itself vertical from Romans face he could hear someone walking up from behind. Panic shot through his body, he couldn’t turn his head to look at the possible danger and he was completely defenseless. Instinctively Roman shut his eyes tight waiting for the worst to come. 
   But nothing happened. Roman slowly opened his eyes to see someone with a flashlight scanning the area. The light passed over him and he could hear the person running to him. 
   “Are you ok? No, that's a stupid question- can you move?”
   ‘Oh fuck,’ Roman thought. ‘I’m fucking dead.’
   Roman was never much for religion but this had to be an angle. Or at least some otherworldly being. No one alive could look like this. Someone much too pretty to be a part of this horrible world hovered over Roman asking him questions Roman couldn’t understand. 
   Yes, the bright orange suit hurt his eyes but their wonderful green and blue eyes and flawless dark skin made his heart race. Oh he wished he could understand what the other was saying. 
   For the first time that night Roman was able to force himself up to look at the other person better. 
   “Oh good you can sit up- here let’s get you back to base. Can you stand?” 
   Romans face flushed from how wonderful their voice sounded. Roman attempted to talk to this otherworldly being but the moment he opened his mouth he got too nauseous and threw up on the others shoes.

Hi so SIF2 came out a week ago and I decided I'd post how I feel abt it so far (as someone who played the original SIF for nearly 7 years)
Pros:
1. Calibration is SO MUCH BETTER OMG. The last game's engine must've sucked or something bcz the rhythm was so weird. You had to change your calibration every 3 secs it was awful😭the only reason I even full combo'd most of the songs is bcz of the timer cards. Now in SIF2 I just had to set my calibration to 3 and I was good to go like the notes actually went with the beat.
2. Most (keyword being most) of the cards are really pretty and well done! I can tell they went all out with these initial URs they are GORGEOUS MY GOSH. And the first event URs are really good!
3. The home menu is a lot cleaner. I rlly like it!
4. OVER 500 SONGS HOLY COW. Ofc more doesn't equal good BUT if you know Love Live you know almost all of their songs slap I can't rlly think of any bad ones. I'm so happy they added their whole song catalog.
5. 3% UR rate instead of the last game's 1% thank God.
Cons:
(Note some of these are just some personal gripes I have with it)
1. Still no co-op live for some reason? Like maybe when an event rolls around there'll be one but idk why we need an event to do co-op lives. Plenty of other games have co-op lives without any events and the Rhythmic Carnival was a thing back in LLSIF and that stopped being event based why do we need events to do co-op lives? </3
2. We can't sort by characters in member lists. There are WAYYYY too many characters for us to just sort them by group come on😭what if I just wanna see my (not that great) collection of Keke cards? But nooo I have to see all of Liella.
3. Remember when I said most of the cards were really pretty? Well yes they are but then there's that some that I don't rlly like that much tbh.. Like You's card for example. I saw quite a few ppl like it bcz of the background and all that and I get that but ngl You's butt being in most of the shot kinda rubs me the wrong way like I get she dives but can't we just use a different camera angle? Why do we have to focus on her butt? She's SIXTEEN. Alsoalso some of the nijigaku and liella cards don't rlly do it for me--maybe it's cause of the differing art styles from the muse and aqours cards idk. I will say tho that Chisato's new event card and cards like Ayumu and Emma look AMAZING imo.
4. You can't set certain songs as favorites and sort them by your favorite :( that would've been a great feature to add especially bcz of the amount of songs there are. Looking for some of my favorite songs is a pain sometimes even with the member sorting system cause there's just SO MANY SONGS. Ik I just said 500 songs is great AND IT IS BUT PLSS LET IT BE EASIER TO SCROLL THROUGH </3 you can only scroll by like 3 songs it's pain.
5. The "Live 2D" is kinda disappointing to me. Like yea they move but that's kinda it. They don't change poses and bcz of that they aren't rlly that expressive. Poor Muse and Aqours especially they've been stuck in those same poses since 2013-2016 LET THEM MOVE MORE PLEASE💔also the "lip syncing" is just random mouth movements it doesn't actually sync with what they're saying.
6. I find the texting system to be very limited and tedious. I know it's the only way to bond with your members (other than grinding songs but bond points are given at a snail's pace with that method) and the chats don't last very long but aaaaa I just find them so boring. Even the group chats. And I can understand the gist of what they're saying so it's not like I don't understand. It's just boring.
7. There's not a lot of master charts for songs tbh--at least not satisfactory enough for me. Only 240+ out of the 500 have master charts for some reason? I know most rhythm games also have a limited number of master charts, but their expert/extreme charts make up for it. LLSIF's expert charts are so easy for me. Maybe it's cause I've been playing for a long time idk. I'll cut them some slack for this one tho bcz the last game also had this issue.
8. They removed a good majority of features SIF had. The rhythm game screen, notes, etc. aren't as customizable, you can't message your friends anymore, nor can you look at your friends activity like stories they read and cards they got. You remember side stories from the last game? Welp, they're gone. Remember the sticker shop? That's gone too. Support members? Gone. N girls? Gone. Blue vouchers? Nope. School idol skills? Screw those, amiright? They removed so many things that made School idol festival...School idol festival.
In conclusion, uhmm it's alright. The rhythm game is fun but that's abt it </3 I can't help but be a little disappointed by this game simply because they took away so many features the original had and the features they did add weren't rlly doing it for me.
The fact a lot of the player base lost their accs for this is rlly upsetting.
I still have hopes this game can improve. Especially because it's in its first week so I don't wanna be TOO harsh. But with the way it is right now, I can't rate SIF2 any higher than a 6/10 :(

finished willdress s1. i think it was pretty decent, the last few episodes were a solid 9 but the first half was like... a strong 7 at best. the anime needed an extra 13 episodes that's for sure, but i think the semifinal fights were so awesome, and the new characters were resoundingly great.
the post got a little long so my thoughts under the cut. i spoil obviously.
the episode where it was raika v tohya was pretty great cause it was all the new characters (the ones with actual presence) commentating. i do think -dress's greatest weakness is how blackout are a set piece and its refusing to break them up even a little, but by the third season its like, eh? they definitely contributed to how "okay" the first half of the series felt... i don't care about yuyu, zakusa's aight, i love tomari, tohya is better for leaving, megumi isn't suddenly gonna matter to me but i think it's funny they're driving the jobber angle so hard with her, at least it's honest.
and down in the nitty gritty that's what i enjoyed about willdress the most so far, even if it was very rushed it didn't really force a lot of conventions— raika and yuyu hate each other's guts by the end still but raika acknowledges blackout nonetheless. i do think it is in character for him to concede that much i guess, given he lost. i guess what i'm saying is "things made sense"— i think a big issue with not only vanguard but a lot of anime in general is that it seems like in an effort to resolve things, characters are bent in ways that are kind of irksome. like, i'll never get why anyone got along with kai in the original series aside from idk, miwa and aichi. getting along is kind of pushing it,
but speaking of kai, i find raika quite refreshing because he's a born hater. there's no real excuse for his behavior: he grew up to be an unpleasant person. i think there's a lot of people like that in hobby spaces, people who develop superiority inferiorty complexes because they're chronic tryhards first and foremost. as mentioned before i like that he is still a hater. come s2 i hope he keeps being a stupid bitch boy.
i do think my favorite characters however were urara and michiru. i don't think there is anyone who watched the show who would disagree with my assessment. urara was the beating heart of this season no questions asked. i don't think there was a single moment that had me going "what the fuck is she doing?!" because she was solid. it's quite easy to mess up shrinking violet blorbo characters imo. i would have loved more episodes to flesh out her troubles, but out of everyone, her arc was the most strongly realized and it is satisfactory enough as it is. she achieves both being cute and being a well constructed character all at once, despite the limited runtime alotted to each character. as the beginner character this season, i really do wish she had been the protagonist instead of yuyu... i don't have much to say about him in particular except that i was just going "lol idc" for most of his screentime. for some reason he became a really cool guy for the last few episodes of the season... but i don't consider it. it doesn't feel thoroughly earned. definitely an issue of the anime being one cour. but yeah, she kind of reminds me of naoki from the original in a way, except she avoids the pitfalls naoki had... i do think it was quite cool that naoki SUCKED ASS at vanguard but i loved that urara had a strong win record. the fight that ended her streak was quite good, she didn't feel cheated out of it at all like it usually feels like when a female character loses in vanguard. L O L.
i thought i wouldn't have much to say about michiru, but what a tour de force of a character. THIS is how you do GAR, not whatever the fuck they were doing with danji in season 1. it's not enough to say "this character is well liked and awesome". that's a lot of tell, no show. not to mention danji's actions were rather aggravating and got in the way of the plot constantly to the point where i remember the first season was more than halfway and it was nothing but danji dicking around performing clamp brand cringe. none of that with michiru: he looks like he just got out of bed constantly... and has looked this way for at least a decade. it's kind of amazing. he might as well be 40 years old and i'm subscribing to that idea personally. i was worried that they'd write the character voiced by a famous johnny's idol(!) to be a lame overpowered Thing, but he was incredibly charming. he really is overwhelmingly strong after all, but they made the right call of pushing him to the background and making him a moeblob who does funny funnies and can't read the room sometimes. infinitely charismatic character. he is everyone's ideal, and no one seems to be able to reach him, even though he's so down to earth... i truly do love the contrast. raika being a huge fanboy adds to it because when he finally lost me and fabio kept hooting and hollering and that was probably the only way i think most people were gonna root for yuyu at all— if raika's entire raison d'etre crumpled up and collapsed before his eyes (it happened quite literally too....hehehehe. iykyk.)
small bit for taizo— the only character who feels a little robbed, but i do think it was a little brave of them to kill him off and not let him advance to the semis out of courtesy of him not being one of the non-characters. but i guess that's how the bracket works given he lost two or three times in a row? (i forgot, but he missed his chance thoroughly). i hope his promise to not give up on his dream of capitalism means he'll be in s2 cause i quite liked him, i wasn't as invested in him as urara but it really is a case of feeling bad for the loser, you know.
dunno when we'll catch up to s2 but i hope it's while it's still airing. i like the designs of the new characters :)

A retrospective on Super Paper Mario
(Nintendo Wii, 2007) 4/5 Stars
Super Paper Mario, in many ways, is THE prime example on how to NOT make an RPG.
And yet, it’s also one of the greatest stories ever told in a videogame, ever. Let me explain.
To truly understand Super Paper Mario and how this utter travesty of a gameplay experience came to have such a profound impact on those who suffered through it, we need to look beyond the sales, beyond the anti-fans and Dimentio-stans. We need to go right back to the very beginning. Today, I’ll tell you a story of a long-forgotten game…
Once upon a time, Nintendo, after the success of the first, decided to create a brand-spanking-new Mario RPG. And so, Paper Mario was born. It was a pretty quiet entry to the massive Mario conglomerate, being released late into the Nintendo 64’s lifespan. Nevertheless, early reviewers praised its unique style, characteristic charm and easy-to-understand mechanics. These core elements would soon become the basis for a much bigger, much grander sequel – Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door! It was a smash hit with fans from every angle, and still sells for ridiculous prices today because of its – well, – sheer greatness. The wit, the mechanics, the story, the graphics! Suffice to say, Paper Mario games had gained a strong foothold with fans. They craved more. Who could blame them?
So, Nintendo did the logical thing (obviously). On the 9th April 2007, they bestowed upon us the eagerly anticipated sequel, the culmination of every hit in the series so far! (Drumroll, please)
Super Paper Mario!
…I’m going to be frank with you, dear reader. Super Paper Mario is, undoubtedly, a flawed game. The controls are limited to the Wii remote’s 4 directions (yes, no c-stick support in a partly 3D game – the horror!), the geometric aesthetic can get old after a while and the pacing makes it, so you’d rather crawl into hell than go back to speak to Jasperoid again to get an unnecessarily long password that takes ages to input because the controls are do damn slow and clunky!
If you know, you know.
In short, it’s a hot mess. Even without considering the clear omission of the turn-based battles from previous titles, its clear that this game does not – and will not – ever compare to its predecessors when it comes to gameplay.
And yet? It doesn’t actually matter. This game shouldn’t even be a Mario game, probably. I bet if it was just some regular, one-off, weirdo game with some other rando on the title, nobody would criticize its flaws as much as they do. But because it’s got ‘Paper Mario’ on the title, it’s suddenly subject to a heck ton more grief (it’s a member of the Mario family, capish?).
How come I like it so much, then? So far, I’ve only been complaining about it! Well hold on to your Wii remotes, dear readers. To truly (truly) understand Super Paper Mario, I’ll tell you a story of the lost book of prophecies. It is a tale of love…
(Yes, that is how the game starts, stick with me, guys!)
The people who have played this game to completion will tell you: it’s a wild ride. Mario has never been so anime (and I personally adore it). If you don’t want to be spoiled for the ending of this over 15-year-old game, then here’s a short summary:
‘Mario, Peach, Bowser and Luigi travel through multiple dimensions ‘Rick and Morty’-style with a butterfly (and friends) to stop an evil, depressed vampire man and his cronies from destroying every reality with a world-ending black hole born out of ‘forbidden love’.
…TL;DR: Peach and Bowser get married; hijinks ensue.’
So… if that wasn’t enough to convince you, I don’t know what will. Stop reading, play it, then come back for the epic conclusion to my review.
…What did you think? Did you cry? Yeah. We all cried. It’s just that kind of game.
Its darker moments are, surprisingly, some of the most engaging aspects of the story: The actual deaths of characters, the deletion of entire worlds – they’re some of what people most fondly remember about this 100% very cheerful little game. I always found it very character-driven, and it somehow manages to touch on more serious topics with a gentle maturity that you wouldn’t really expect from a 3+ kid’s game.
A character’s story I personally feel is overlooked is the token dim-witted himbo O’Chunks. He’s one of Count Bleck’s main cronies and the first actual boss of the game. He’s written to be a funny, crude character who shouts hilarious catchphrases like ‘GRAH-GOOGLY’ and farts himself away when he’s beaten. At first glance, he’s the epitome of ‘kids-game humour’, and for the most part, he is.
Then Chapter 5-2 happens.

Just a reminder: this is a MARIO game.
This made me stop and stare when I first played. The moment was short-lived, of course – gotta keep that age rating down! – but I was still astonished that this game even attempted to address such mature themes, and with the token dimwit comic-relief! But it doesn’t end here, folks! May I gently remind you, dear reader, that this outlandish codge-up of a game is also…
…a love story?
As hopeless as the game can feel sometimes, what with the total obliteration of Sammer’s Kingdom, or the devilish Mimi’s enslavement of Mario and Co. to pay off their crushing debt (that one hits a little too close to home), Super Paper Mario is bursting at the seams with positivity and encouragement. Whether it be Tippi’s overwhelming gratitude for Mario and friends after her rescue releasing one of the seven Pure Heart maguffins, or the beautiful climax of the game – Tippi and Count Bleck’s own wedding – Super Paper Mario is a game about friendships, a whole heap of other comedic and heart-warming moments I didn’t have room to mention, and – most importantly – love.
Super Paper Mario, in many ways, is THE prime example on how to NOT make an RPG.
But it’s also one of the comfiest, darkest, over-the-top and most daring stories I’ve ever played. I’d whole-heartedly implore anyone looking for a charming story, and maybe even a bit of a cry, to give this tale a try…
…just don’t play it if you’re looking for good gameplay, K?

Review: June 2022 Infinity Releases
Welcome to Infinity Review, a blog where I review new Infinity miniatures releases. I’ve been playing Infinity and collecting and painting the miniatures for about 10 years, and I love talking about them! I started this blog both to share my thoughts and encourage more discussion about this great miniatures line.

Today I’m reviewing the new Infinity June releases. Illness followed by an injury kept me from completing this post last month, but I’m recovering and finally feel up to it. This month we have new models for Yujing, Ariadna, PanOceana and a Wulver character that shows up in multiple armies! Lets take a look!

Wolfgang Amadeus Wolff (Ariadna/Nomads/NA2)
Javi Ureña
Design (8): I talked about this guy a little when we first saw the renders a few months ago. I thought he looked pretty good, but seeing him painted up really brings him to life and changes my opinion. He’s great! Amadeus seems to be wearing a  standard Nomad suit, complimented by a sleeveless jacket and a bulky right shoulder pad. The lack of sleeves shows off his big hairy arms along with some interesting arm bands. His bald head and sideburns, along with that huge scar, really stand out both among other characters and other Wulvers. Its a little unfortunate that his big claw weapon is kind of lost in the bot, and the bot itself is pretty difficult to read.
Sculpt (8): Wolfgang’s face is really worth drawing attention too. We see a lot of great faces in Infinity, but so often those are limited to a small range of human expressions. This model presented the opportunity to show a snarling bestial face and the sculptor really embraced it! The over-sized exaggerated mouth, with it’s huge teeth, contrasts with the furrowed brow, scrunched nose and huge plain of the forehead to create a face that is unforgettable. Wolfgang’s fury and rage is palatable! I love the creases of the cheek and brow, details that so often aren’t so exaggerated on other models. They make Wolfgang’s expression both believable and subtly beyond human.  The hair on the arms really stands out as another nice detail which gives Wolfgang a distinctly non-human look. This is more than just hair, its fur! The only detail I don't care for is the wrecked remote at the base. While I appreciate scenic base elements that aren’t just rocks, its really hard to tell what the remote is, even from multiple angles. In fact, the only reason I’m guessing its a remote is that it’s painted in 0-12 colors and has mechanical parts. This element might be more recognizable to people who own this particular remote or play against it a lot, but to me it looks like Wolfgang is smashing a random pile of junk.
Pose (8): A very nice pose which really contains a lot of energy. Even though I’m having trouble reading the details of the remote, Wolfgang’s movements here are very clear and easy to see.
Overall score: 8/10

Tiāngǒu Orbital Activity Squad (Yujing)
Sculpted by Javi Ureña and Raúl Tavares
Design (8): These are neat! Yujing has always had great looking AD units, going back to the original Tiger Soldiers. The Tiangaou are probably the most complicated looking  Yujing AD unit, with an abundance of hoses, straps and plates that give it a unique look but also make it visually difficult to read. The Hacker is the more cluttered of the two sculpts, and shares a problem with the recent Morat Hackers. Its absolutely covered in extra parts, and that abundance of parts comes very close to looking jumbled. Thankfully the symmetry of of the tubes helps preserve the model’s shape and silhouette. The Boarding Shotgun version is much easier to read, with a very clean helmet. Overall I like these designs quite a bit, but I also feel like less might have been more. As a side note, I absolutely hate the Jammer. It looks so goofy! Why is it bigger than a human torso? In the far future of Infinity when you can record a human brain into a cube and hacking devices fit in the palm of your hand, why does the Jammer look like something out of an 80′s action film? Does Ariandna manufacture them? The Madcows are cute little bots with a fun design. Its always seemed a little weird to me that they don’t have hands. What’s the point of building a humanoid robot without hands or some other kind of functional manipulator? I guess that's not so important when clearly the goal is cuteness over effectiveness. I'm fine with that!
Sculpt (9): The very nice sculpting is doing a lot to keep this complicated design from looking messy. The under suit is really clear and well rendered, which gives the complicated gear sitting on top of it a solid base. I really like the details of the collar of the Boarding Shotgun model, which reminds me of something from a diving suit or space suit. This is obscured on the Hacker model by tubes protruding from the helmet, but the alternate helmet itself is finally detailed. The smooth surfaces of the helmet provide a nice focal point for the otherwise busy models
Pose (7): Neither pose is particularly exciting, but both are completely functional. I really like the way the Boarding Shotgun model’s weight is on it’s right foot, with it’s gun tucked across the body. This really gives a sense of hesitation and caution, as if it just noticed an enemy. Unfortunately the enormous Jammer mars the whole pose, obscuring too much of the model. The Hacker has a completely acceptable hacking pose that isn’t too exciting but also isn’t too overdone. The Madcows are, of course, cute.

Uxía McNeill again (Ariadna) Sculpted by Antonio Moreira
Design (5): Another Uxia. Jesus. From what I remember this is the 6th Uxia? Or 7th? She’s a fine looking model, but so was the one before that. And the one before that. And the one before that. And the one before that. Did we really need another? Design wise, Uxia is pretty boring. Like most of Ariadna, she looks like she escaped from a toy line for a late 80′s action movie. Her GI Joe aesthetic isn’t particularly eye catching or exciting, but I do like the design of her pants, with the harder fabric giving away in favor of softer and more flexible material around the knees.
Sculpt (9): As boring as her design is, her sculpt is very nice. Her face is fantastic, with a  characterful expression. We’ve had a lot of Uxias, but this one’s expression is probably my favorite. Other details to note are her boot laces, shotgun grip, the corded texture of her sweater and her really nice hair. This is a good example of how a dull design can still result in a very nice looking model.
Pose (8): Suitably aggressive for a stealthy model making their way toward the fight! I think the previous Uxia was holding her shotgun in both hands in a firing position, so this is at least a new pose for her. I can’t wait to see what they do with the next Uxia.

PanOceania Headquarters Pack (PanOceania)
Sculpted by Javi Ureña, Antonio Moreira and Raúl Tavares I’m going to do two separate reviews here. The first is for Kyle Hawkins.
Design (7): Kyle is a pretty generic PanO Knight, and most of what is cool about him is what's already cool about all Knights. He has that trademark great looking super smooth PanO armor wrapped in a anachronistic tabard. As for unique features, I love his gun, and I appreciate that he has his helmet slung on a strap. That's always a nice touch. Otherwise Kyle seems pretty generic. He looks like a normal Knight who just happened to take off his helmet. At a time when we have SO MANY amazing knight models (many out of print), did we really need another that doesn’t stand out at all?
Sculpt (7): While the detail of the armor looks just fine, the head look very off to me. Kyle has a constipated blandness that I'm more sued to seeing in Games Workshop models. 
Pose (6): A very 90′s Games Workshop pose to go with the Games Workshop face. Waving around a sword while shooting with one hand often looks awkward, but doing it with one foot placed triumphantly on a rock is peak 2nd edition 40K. As silly as this pose is, at least its well done. The weight distribution is very believable, and it does look better from other angles. I know some people like exactly this kind of pose, but I think in combination with the super bland character design and weird face it comes off looking very poor.
Overall score: 6.6/10 Now lets talk about the Curator and Grand Master! Design (9): Wow! I didn’t love all of the recent Military Orders models, and in some cases I felt like they veered into a semi-fantasy area that looked out of place in Infinity. These two models live in that same space as well, but I absolutely love their design. I think it helps knowing that neither of these are traditional combatants. One is a commander, meant to be used as an HVT, who likely never leads troops into battle (at least dressed like that). The other is a support technician who seems (at least to me) to spend more time behind the lines than on them. Both have a ceremonial look that I really like, with distinct cloth elements that are different from anything we’ve seen in military Orders but clearly attach them to the sectorial. In fact, they would look out of place in any other part of Infinity, but fit perfectly along side the Knights!
Sculpt (7): I love the design, but some of the details are... not great. In particular, the cord fastening the Grand Master’s cape around her neck is just comically thick, and the pointy elements along the trim of her tabard look straight off a Dark Eldar model. The capes and robes of both models also look VERY thick. I know there are casting limitations at play and the sculptors are probably doing the best they can, but the Grand Master especially looks like her robes are made out of cosplay foam. On the other hand, both faces are very well done, and I love the Curator’s hair.
Pose (8): Neither pose is particularly eye catching, but both are subtly dynamic and speak to each model’s character. The Grand Master’s raised glass, supported by her left arm, and her posture that puts her weight on her left leg gives her a distinct look of bored arrogance (which matches her great expression). The Curator’s walking pose is calm but attentive. She doesn’t appear to be in the heat of battle. Instead, she’s looking for a problem and on her way to fix it!

Beginners problems in art
I am looking for courses to improve my drawings, I am browsing through books. One of the books I liked is pretty basic and it feels that it was written for the beginner, but by a person who is very proficient in the profession, so advice placed on the page are basically: “Draw that like me, put a shadow here, sketch everything you see, you got this”.
What would I appreciate more:
- How to frame the view around me, so sketch will be composed better. Cause it is a misconception that reality is composed well. Even when you are taking photos, you need to find a good shot and of course, you need to clean it a bit, erase some stuff from background.
- Some angles are more common in drawing than others, and it is not easy to get at first. If you really look on still lifes, for example vases are usually placed straight and you can’t see the inside of them, but coffee cups are quite often are drawn a little from top, so you can actually see the beverage inside.
- To find good references that push you forward, you need to collect a lot of them and systematize them to doable and undoable. Then you need to select a good proportion of different topics - shapes, light and shadows, work with color (how in eerie and dark images you need to distinguish between a lot of shades of gray, for example), anatomy, animals, plot and composition. I would be glad to have assistance in that process, and usually teachers provide that, they help you to develop a versatile overview of techniques and forms. When you are self-taught by books, you need to rely on your own background. I have some of that, but I can’t find a book that dives in into that. Honestly, most of them just go “Draw everything around you!”.
- “Just draw everything you want” is good when you are surrounded by art for a valid chunk of time. And it is not about museums. I did a lot of that, but you need to actually redraw these paintings to really understand them. And also, you need a lot more than that - you need to know the story behind, the techniques, the limitations of time. So you logically turn to modern artists, you try to find different approaches, you start searching for travelers, for less known artists, for photo reports from galleries, and then - then your mind really start giving you ideas. You can’t generate ideas out of plain air. You need to know it beforehand, to be familiar with it.
- The reason though why they insist to turn to your life is that from some level of skill, the main thing is your own vision. Vision is everything, your experience is unique and your sensing of world around is what every other artist wants to know about. You want to see your colleagues to share more that inner magic and inner self and therefore, this advice is a constant component of every guide. Funny, that in writing where I am not so focused on my skills, cause I am somewhere on intermediate stages, I really take inspiration from that advice and I am pretty sure that I said it a lot of time to a lot of beginners. :) When they just needed some help with literally descriptions or character introducing, I would be like “Be yourself!” >) Cause really, the technicalities will come in time, yes.
- How hard should it be? How much do I need to push myself? Should I get every drawing to perfection? Should I try to do complex works? Should I try to mix materials and approaches? Should I try to draw people everyday? No one can tell you that. You need to rely on your instincts. Or on study group. But it is confusing, I can tell. I want to draw everything - a fantasy about mouse family tucked in their beds, a serious sketch with dreamlike dark forest, a replica of portraits of one of the artists I love, I want to try the textures of shells, I want to draw the slices of fruit in watercolor, I want to fill in my sketchbook with doodles and comics, with citations from songs, with random sketch on the train. I want all of that and I am just sorry I can’t do it all simultaneously. I haven't found a book yet that encourages that passion.

why do u think dekinobi is more popular than other non-canon ships like, let's say, jaisune?

For longer read, well there are many reasons that i can think of, but ofc its still just my opinion.
Nobita is the mc. He's mostly the main guy for story telling. So Its easier to find non-canon ships with nobita in it. Hell, i think the most popular non canon ship in doraemon rn would be doranobi. We saw nobita and knew nobita better compared to other characters, its bound to happen that he got shipped with many else (theres even plenty works where he got shipped with other boys in the Doraemon movie), like with most shounen, especially when they started sopping wet and pathetic (yuuji x all, denji x all, naruto x all, etc etc)
Personally, i shipped them because there area so little moments abt them. Bcs of the scarcity, when they actually showed up on screen together, i always cherish that moment and it fuels me. Something abt the feeling of yearning and longing keeps me going
The dynamic of smart x not smart is p common in fandoms. I mean, thats what happened in the main (shizunobi) but this time make it male and shizuka just happened to have a male carbon copy.
Both are 'conveniently attractive' and by that I mean easier to draw. Just look at the many shizunobi fanarts. Or even lucanobi. It's because they're easy to draw and didn't have any unique physical traits. It's easier to translate to other style, maybe even a more anime-ish style. With others, for example suneo with his pointy mouth, i personally would love to draw him looking as close as possible to the original source. But, With that limitation in minds it's hard to find ways to draw him in many angles/ scenarios without it looking too different from how i envisioned it. If you can, good for you, and this is just my skill issue (even now i still have a hard time drawing doraemon proportionately). But im not invested enough to try or care.
And with that too, idk abt you anon, but have you ever thought of keep making the shippy content you want? Like, original works. Write or draw for that ship. The dknb tags in tumblr only got a bit of traction bcs i personally kept posting. I remembered in 2022 when it's still very quiet in the tags (even now its actually still quiet). From that, others who shared the same sentiment would flock or maybe even felt encouraged to make their own shippy content.
You think those dknb fanarts or fics pop up from nowhere? No... there's ppl that made those into existence bcs

Like, i barely even wrote a decent fic but i always try for them bcs i do love them and now we have quite a few fics to fill thee tags in ao3... And like, I'm not paid to do this. I just genuinely like dknb, and when i discovered the english/ international side of dknb is pretty barren, i started filling it with either doodles or fics.
It's really not that hard. If you want your ship/ ideas to be more popular, work on it. Draw something. Or write something. If you feel it sucks, yeah well that's what i felt when i saw my older doodles or fics loll. And that's fine, bcs it will sucks. But you'll learn from it too and got better.
Sorry it got so long, but i do want others to thrive in their own doraemon shippy fandoms too. Just give it a try, really. That's the key
