Yu-Gi-Oh!
Red Pill is all about multiple realities or universes and hard decisions. Yugioh even though is just a card game fits into the multiple universes catagory all too well. Yugioh is not just a card game Konami the company making Yugioh made it from a manga of the same name. Eventually this manga would be made into an anime thats specific purpose was to promote the card game. It has had 6 series start and finish, each series spanning over hundreds of episodes the shortest series being 120 episodes long. The series I that follow a multiple universe story is Yugioh Zexal, Yugioh Arc V and Yugioh Vrains.
YU-GI-OH ZEXAL
Yugioh Zexal is the fourth series in Yugioh. It follows the story of Yuma Tsukumo a 14 year old boy with a passion for dueling. He loves dueling and believes that once you duel someone they are your friend. He has a key that he wears around his neck and once he opens a gate in his dreams and visions he releases a being called Astral. Astral is from another dimension and is from the planet Astral World. He has none of his memories but if Yuma collects all the Number cards each one they obtain will unlock another one of his memories since they were scattered once Astral was freed. Eventually Yuma gets caught up in a war between Astral World and the Barian World two worlds from Astrals Dimension. Yuma duels his way to victory and stops the war between the two worlds and Astral returns to his world after Yuma and him have one final duel.
Tumblr media
Yugioh Zexal introduced the game to the XYZ mechanic, a new mechanic that the anime help advertise and get kids understanding how it worked. The mechanic is one of my favourites and is pretty simple. Most XYZ monsters require two monsters of the same level to summon. By putting the two monsters of the same level on top of each other you can perform an XYZ summon that matches the levels of the monster so if you overlayed 2 level 4 monsters you can summon a rank 4 XYZ monster.

YU-GI-OH ARC V
Yugioh Arc V follows the story of a young 14 year old boy called Yuya Sakaki and is the 5th seires in Yugioh. His father had a very special form of dueling called Entertainment Dueling or Dueltaining. This method of dueling was all about exciting the crowd and summoning monsters that were very flashy and fun to watch. It was dueling built to inspire others and is how Yuya duels. Yuya’s dad goes missing and doesn’t show up to an important duel that people mock Yuya for calling his dad a coward. When Yuya enters a tournement he meets meets another boy who has his face but has different hair and eye colour but other than that they were identical. This dopplegangar was dueling another person was also looked like him their names were Yuto and Yugo. They were yelling at each other one accusing the other of killing his best friend. Yugo defending himself from Yuto’s accusations kills Yuto and Yuya absorbs him into his body on accident. They then run into a 4th lookalike his name is Yuri and he is the one who has been killing others and causing mass pain to Yuto’s dimension. The four boys are from different dimensions that were created when the 4 were originally seperated. They were all once a boy named Zarc and unfortunetely Zarc turned evil and to stop him a girl called Ray serperated him into the 4 summoning mechanics he used, Normal, Fusion, Synchro, and XYZ. This created the Normal dimension, the Fusion dimension, the Synchro dimension and the XYZ dimension. The normal dimension soon becomes the Pendulum dimension when Yuya creates pendulum summonig. This was the new mechanic this anime is pushing to promote. This mechanic was quite complex. There are now monsters that are also half spell cards and had a special number in the middle of the cards sides called the pendulum scales. You could set these monsters in the scales and if you had a scale 1 on the left and a scale 8 on the right you could summon as many monsters from your hand as you like as long as their levels were between the pendulum scale set or in this case levels 2 to 7.
youtube
The fusion dimension wanted war and started attacking the other dimensions. Their goal was to rebirth Zarc and fuse the boys back together so Zarc can kill everyone. This causes an interdimensional war between the four dimensions and Yuya, Yuto, and Yugo doing their best to stop Yuri from fusing them together. Yuri eventually succeeds with his goal by corrupting Yuya’s mind and Zarc is reborn. Ray is also Reborn and she once again stops Zarc and this time Reborns just Yuya but lets the others keep their soul inside his as long as they work together and find peace. This works and the boys in one body start dueling in their own special Entertainment dueling.

YUGIOH VRAINS
Yugioh Vrains follows the story of 16 year old Yusaku Fujiki. He is a introverted, quiet depressed boy who was kidnapped as a kid and forced to duel for food in a prison. If he lost he would be electricuted, if he won he was given food. After he was rescued he didn’t trust others and kept to himself. He dedicates his time to hunting a group of people called the Knights of Hanoi who are the people responsible for causing him so much pain. This is all done through duels inside some called the Vrains. This is a Virtual Reality world where you duel in a virtual world so you can do things like surf on waves of data while playing card games. Yes that is correct this series is card games on surfboards (still not as weird as Yugioh 5Ds which was card games on motorcycles) This virtual world is actually a gateway into another dimension called the Cyberse Dimension. There some small creatures called the Ignis live and the Knights of Hanoi want to find and kill them since they are intelligent A.I. Yusaku captures one and calls him Ai and together they stop the Hanoi but sacrifice all of Yusaku’s new allies friends. This causes him to go rouge and he threatens to kill all the humans and replace the world with Ignis. Yusaku has to stop Ai from killing humanity and once he does he falls into a deep depression where no one sees him for years.
This series introduced the new mechanic Link monsters. This mechanic changed the game entirely. These monsters had a link rating and that rating is how many monsters were needed to summon it (this is also said on the card how many monsters is required to summon it). Link monsters have link arrows and where a Link monsters points to is also where more link monsters can be summoned to. However this was also the case for all the other extra deck monsters in Yugioh slowing the game way down for a bit but Link monsters eventually became way too powerful and recently Konami changed the rules again allowing Fusion, Synchro and XYZ monsters being summoned anywhere instead of being forced to getting summon to a link arrow. Link monsters made a lot of players mad but I personally really like them they added a fun mechanic that I quite enjoyed.

Yugioh is a very confusing series sometimes however the stories fit Red Pill’s format. The pther series don’t follow any Red Pill aspects which is why I only mentioned these three. yugioh personally has helped me have a hobbie that brought me and my friends close together and I still play it today. The card game definitely seems intimidating but when you learn it it is a lot easier to grasp the game and isn’t as complicated as people think. It mainly just requires reading.

alrighty! im gonna talk about my two new dr!ocs and some updates on sheon’s whole thing. remember they don’t have names yet adkaljasdkfa
SURVIVOR: the ultimate jazz singer.
as mentioned, she’s the ultimate jazz singer. pretty subdued personality, but she’s the type of jazz singer who would just. scream into a microphone a la screamin jay hawkins. she is pretty neutral/friendly but disconnected in the prologue/first chapter/second chapter. she gets more jittery as the interactions go on. but once you get to the post-fte section of chapter two, that night she actually tries to kill the protag. at this point its revealed her big Angsty Backstory is she got involved with drugs through the music scene and is currently suffering withdrawal symptoms and is Super desperate (something ive seen a lot with my co-musicians and its not good) big breakdown, really delirious, will eventually be talked off the ledge and calmed down. kind of like if sayaka was actually calmed down in thh chap 1
just so happens that during the night whoopsy someone else was killed. so you two have an alibi but to reveal it means you tell everyone about her issues. either there might be a lying feature like in drv3 to cover, or you tell the truth and end up isolating her. for chapter three and most of four she will keep her distance from the protag bc she’s uncomfortable but will eventually reach out to be friends again after chap 4 execution.
is generally pretty useful during trials, tends to be a person who tries to help calm down more emotional students and look at things logically. is good at trying to calm down the blackened once the protag catches their bluff bc she understands what its like to be desperate. she does, however, cry during/after every punishment. tells others not to speak poorly of their executed classmates.
she compulsively chews gum, and one of her favorite gifts would be gum. jokes about having an oral fixation. during school mode she might joke about singing love songs but being so awkward about it in real life. really likes dogs, has a dog plushie in her room.
a first two fte will focus on her health/wellbeing. the third she’ll ask to not talk about that anymore and the next three are just about general stuff. the final one she’ll basically go a little further into detail but the moral of her story is like, she’s not a bad person for doing what she did, no one is. she’s just a person. and it cn happen to anymore.
dresses in clothes more inspired by late mod/early 70s fashion. hoestly im seeing like a turtleneck/pantsuit combo. short curly hair. big heavy under eyelashes.
MASTERMIND: the ultimate drag racer (ultimate cruiser)
ok but I LOVE him. personality wise he’s the story’s anxious character, think closer in personality to chap 1 shuichi. quiet, skittish, easily flustered, sometimes cracks jokes that fall flat. he’s framed for the chap 1 murder (someone died in a go kart accident, its assumed he sabotaged the other car, his argument is why would he kill someone in a race in front of all his classmates?) the protag obviously works hard to prove he’s innocent. after the execution he makes a promise to the protag that he owes him one big time, and while it seems innocent at the time, the wording should have like. a slight suspicious undertone.
he’ll investigate weirder areas of the school instead of practical (sometimes he has clues sometimes not) and if there’s ever a mechanical question for a trial, you’ll generally ask him for clarification. he’s not very trusting of others and is often the one to accuse others/bring the information learned in trials back into the real world and make a big deal out of it. for example, he’ll make a big deal about the attempted murder in chap 2, and he’s the one who’s constantly accusing sheon of being a traitor
at first he seems like he’s just anxious, but obviously, he’s the mastermind, and he’s trying to tear the group apart.
his fte he’s awkward the first few times but he opens up slowly, showing actual comfort/joy around the protag. wants to be close friends. offers to take protag go karting. while their personality is pretty awkward most of the time, there are flashes of an adrenaline junky every now and then especially when talking about cars, where he seems so full of life and drive it’s almost scary. very competitive during these times, his determination almost taking a sadistic glee when talking about beating others. of course he explains it as his cutthroat sport, but ya know...mastermind. instead of saying we’re going to survive he says we’re going to win. friendly towards the others but doesn’t really care about them focused on protag. is consciously trying to seperate protag from sheon.
for a mastermind he’s actually quite the empath and grows attached to his classmates, which he actually takes pleasure in the amount of despair he feels after each of their executions. reason behind the game is the adrenaline rush he feels, never has felt more alive than on despair. he discovered the rush the first time he got in a car accident, and the moments before his crash where like pure bliss. he wanted to let everyone else feel his feverish joy, and talks about how everyone has enjoyed this, deep down. they’re all getting their sick kicks. breaks the fourth wall and alludes to the fact that the protag (through the player) is having the most fun of all.
final trial where it’s revealed, he’s still v attached to the protag in like an almost yandere way and wants to follow up on the favor he owes from chap 1. he offers a deal to the protag where if they’re welcome to be their accomplice in all this and get out of the game. protag should push to bargain that everyone can give up their morals, sacrifice themselves to despair, and live as the mastermind’s accomplice in exchange for ending the killing game.
eventually, he’ll agree, but only if the group decides one life among them to sacrifice for no other reason than to kill an innocent friend. the way to get to the correct ending is to choose yourself which will like invalidate the deal. protag ends up dying and everyone else lives. leaves the mastermind in a despair, but for the first time, he does not derive any pleasure.
takes a LOT OF GLEE in admitting he convinced everyone else sheon was the traitor when she was not, everyone else is horrified.
anyways. his school mode/love mode events show his more likeable side, he can actually be a really cute partner if it weren’t for the part he’s evil but uh. soft sometimes.
really likes energy drinks. talks about sponsorships. color scheme is like. a black racing suit but his jacket is tied around his waist and he’s wearing a wife beater. tons of accents of neon all over his outfit from like patches and brand deals. backwards hat. blushes easily. has a mullet. i love him.
“TRAITOR” : SHEON FUKUDA (the ultimate film maker)
ok so. still antagonistic. but more in the way of pushing your buttons and pointing out your flaws in a trial. like somewhere between antagonist and kirigiri. super chill personality, cracks a lot of jokes, is hardcore struggling with the games and will be open about her mental illness. her fatal flaw is still her martyr complex
is first framed after chap 2 bc of accused of having the ability to direct and oversee a production like this, and from that moment forward no one can trust her and she’s SUPER alienated. she’s still awkwardly trying to be friends/friendly but people act like she’s going to betray them all. tries to prove innocence multiple times going as far as to beginning of chap 3 announce to the group if they need to kill anyone, let it be her so no one else gets hurt and is super transparent about who she is. but this transparency makes people more suspicious. as she goes on she gets more desperate/gallows humor. last convo bfore chap 5 begins she has a vague conversation about with protag about if they fear death. chap 5 would end up being either a suicide or double murder (they killed each other one in attack the other while being defended against) so there’s no execution but monokuma still wants something. its also in this trial that the ultimate drag racer plants evidence taht makes it look like she’s the traitor and is addressed head on.
a common motif for her is ‘playing the role assigned’ and knowing who she is and who she isn’t. she’s pretty comfortable knowing who she is but expresses unhappiness about being painted a villain. maybe like, three times through the story to this point it’s established as a motif/quirk of fitting a role she’s assigned bc if the protag asks her a question about herself/past/the overall story, she asks the protag a question like well, what do you want 1) 2) and you choose and she’s like. ok. then its _______. same thing here. as she’s finally excused she stares at the protag and is like do you really believe im the traitor? (yes) stares long and hard, somethng sad and defeated in her eyes. ok then. i am.
the trial doesn’t have a punishment originally planned bc the blackened are not alive. but she chooses not to vote and willingly chooses to be punished because everyone else has decided she’s the traitor and she chooses to play along so they can get closure. her last conversation should be about choosing the act of resistance, no matter how convoluted it can be. she doesn’t fear death. the pain sure, but not death. this was her choice to be punished, not the masterminds, and she hopes they lose any glee they take in her suffering because its a sacrifice for hope instead of a death in despair. last request is that she asks for the protag to make sure the manuscripts she wrote during her time are published, the last great work of sheon fukuda.
EXECUTION: CULTURE SHOCK so she wakes up on a soundstage to blinding light. she’s attached with electrodes. monokuma is sitting on a director’s chair with a director’s hat. basically the premise is as the ultimate film maker, she has to recreate different iconic movie scenes and every time she makes a mistake she gets shocked. she keeps on getting thrown into new scenes into the middle of old ones, throwing her off. after a sequence of costume changes/farces she finally collapses in the soundstage.
beat. she looks up. above the soundstage is a sign that says “congratulations” or something. everyone gasps. she believes she beat it. a single light comes on in center stage prompting her to take a bow. she stumbles over, stands up, and looks into the shadows in the general direction of her classmates. a teleprompter prompts her classmates to clap. she takes glee, soaking in her win, and bows. as she comes up she smiles for a second before a short rings out. she’s shot through the heart. culture shock!
fte are mostly talking about directors/film references and what its like to be a film maker. real dry humor, sometimes talks about deeper stuff. her backstory is that her dad was working for an american embassy so she grew up in america going to art shool, and she feels out of place, despite being a japanese student with the same basic culture as everyone else. sometimes talks about slimeball directors, sometimes talks about missing certain food, loves takling about movies. as a filmmaker she specializes in dark comedy/farce which makes her suspicious of how someone can enjoy writing somethng so twisted
views are very intersectional, a little new agey, but still well put together. clearly a free spirit, very quirky from working in cinema, super dry sense of humor. likes philosophy
really likes blueberry jam. favorite item is somthing blueberry.
after chap 1 trial she expresses to the protag how she can never be the blackened, not just because of murdering one student, but to get away with it, everyone else would be punished instead, and she can’t deal with the blood on her hands.
is open about her struggles with mental illness and how she was getting help and showing improvement bfore coming here but now she feels herself spiraling and hates it.
values everyone here as good friends, and while she tries to play it off she hates how they’re painting her as a villain. takes every death very personally.
color scheme is very pastel, and she wears sweat pants and a collared shirt with a light blue robe. you can’t tell if those are pajamas or an outfit. wears rose-colored glasses. all about the aesthetic, just lean so far into film culture with her. personality/feelings towards style are very influenced by the fact she went to an american arts school instead of a japanese school like her peers so every part of her is slightly off/quirky/out-of-touch
she’ll mostly wear the glasses over her eyes, sometimes pushing them down on her nose for emphasis to make eye contact. only her anger sprite (point) shows her taking them off.
during her execution she pushes them onto her forehead before taking her bow, almost to meet eye to eye. after she’s shot the last frame is them landing on the ground, cracking.
i love sheon so much

Sick, tired and broke...
While it took the coronavirus to get people to genuinely realise this : our healthcare system is trash when it truly doesn’t have to be.
That technically feels like the end of my Ted talk, but I’ll go into some slightly repetitive data about it, because what I ultimately discovered is that this healthcare system is costing the most financially and humanely for Millenials.
Let’s start out with 2019 when 137 million Americans faced financial hardship due to medical costs. Scary part is, regardless of age, high healthcare bills are the number one reason people would consider taking money out of their retirement accounts or filing for bankruptcy, while 66.5% of all personal bankruptcies are tied to medical issues. ( CNBC).
According to the NYTimes, Americans borrowed $88 billion in 2018 in order to pay for their healthcare. If we’re borrowing $88 billion to pay for healthcare, imagine the profit that these healthcare companies are enjoying!
Why is healthcare so expensive? The best answer I could find is due to a “free” market and lack of regulation by our government as well as a lack of transparency when it comes to medical billing. According to Public Health Policy Professor Marty Makary of John Hopkins, the healthcare marketplace is “irrational”-- though I prefer the term uncontrolled-- where price gouging has become the norm. Heart surgery at one hospital may cost $44,000 while the same surgery will cost $500K at another facility, and the kicker here is, despite the disparity in price, there is no marked difference between the quality of care in the different facilities (CNBC).
As for lack of transparency for medical billing, I can personally attest to that ( though clearly I’m not a unique case). Last year I was hospitalized at Tulane University Medical for Diabetic Ketoacidosis, brought on by food poisoning, and I received 3 seperate bills for that one stay. One bill was about $350, the second bill was for $2200 , and the third bill was for $14.99 with no thorough explanation about what I was being billed for ( no general explanation provided either). The bills were just medical coding with no legend of what the coding represented, leaving me angry and confused. How does one hospital stay, at one facility come with 3 seperate bills? Sad thing is, I had health insurance, and seeing as health insurance comes with deductibles and out of pocket limits, I figured those hospital bills hit that, at the very least. Apparently it did not for reasons not even the health insurance reps could explain to me. How do I spend $2500 out of pocket, when my limit is $1500, and you’re telling me that that $2500 doesn't count toward my out of pocket? A clear lack of transparency in not just medical billing, but health insurance as well.
The general high cost of medical care is another reason we’re just out here remaining sick and in debt: The average hospital stay in the US costs about $5220 per day, whereas in Australia where the nation's wealth is comparable to the US, it’s about $765 per day. It is not even hospital stays that are the initial causes/starting causes of medical debt either: 65% of medical debt started out with either diagnostic testing or a doctor’s visit followed by Lab fees, ER visits, drug prescription costs and outpatient services (SingleCare.com). Why would something/someone whose job it is to cure or heal you be what brings you into debt? Even more so, why does something as primary and preliminary such as diagnostic testing or seeing the doctor be the main cause of medical debt? We’re in debt before we can even know what’s ailing us? Drug prescriptions are no different either. About a month and a half ago I lost insulin vials and needed to get replacement vials from the pharmacy: I’ve never actually lost insulin before in my twenty years as a diabetic, so you think that my pristine record would count for something. It didn't. Health insurance was not going to cover it, and the cost of one vial was going to be $900. Keep in mind, one vial will last me about two weeks. Maybe three if I make sure to not eat. $900 is more than my half of rent to put that cost into perspective relative to my monthly bills, and it was only going to last me half the month. If prescription costs are that drastic, I can only imagine the average cost of the diagnostic or doctors visit that affect the 65% that fall into debt because of it.
In addition to costing us financially, high medical care and medical costs affect our quality of life and ability to accumulate wealth, especially Millennials. According to a 2016 study published by Health Affairs, Millennials carry the most medical debt in the US as well as incur it more frequently: the article focused more on the fact that the debt starts at the age of 27 once the medical care/insurance for young adults under their parents insurance ends at age 26. The age group that ended up accumulating the most debt was also age 27 ( PBS.org) The Millenial age group also accounts for 35% of the overall population, so that could be another reason why we hold the most medical debt as well ( Single Care).
Quality of life is also affected in that Americans are foregoing medical treatment or medical visits due to cost. In fact, 21% of Americans had to do that in 2016 alone. That is 21% of people not getting the necessary healing treatment they need, or living in the dark of what’s ailing them.
32% have postponed medical care due to cost. When I hear “postpone”, I assume that the only reason they end up getting medical care is because their ailment got worse or to a point where they couldn’t avoid not getting the medical care that they needed.
40% of adults ages 18-64 have relied on at home remedies or over the counter drugs instead of going to the doctor due to medical cost ( Singlecare.org)
I have fallen into all 3 categories: In fact, once , in order to avoid a hospital visit, I treated my own onset of ketoacidosis. For those of you not sure what that entails, it basically includes taking my insulin through my veins as opposed to subcutaneously ( injecting my arm or stomach) while avoiding any liquids or food, including water for at least 24 hours. The reason you have to do that is because your body’s acid level is falling to a dangerous level so it won’t react to insulin being delivered into your fat stores or beneath the skin: It has to be delivered directly to your bloodstream to have an effect. This acidity level will also cause your blood sugar to rise to dangerous levels, and potentially even lead to a heart attack if not treated in a timely manner. The low acidity level is also why the body won’t tolerate any food or liquid, as it tries to purge every possible foreigner from the body in order to normalize its pH level. Imagine not being able to drink water without violently vomiting it up. So there I was at home, a young twenty year old, injecting insulin into my veins, every hour for at least twenty four hours, until my body was on the mend again. I had to be my own doctor in order to avoid a $2k-$3k plus bill that I knew I couldn’t afford. Was it risky? Yes. But, I was forced to be concerned not only for my life but for my financial well being simultaneously. Sad fact of the matter is, I’m confident that I’m not the only type 1 diabetic with a story like that, and I’m not the first to have to weigh my life versus my finances.
In order to pay for medical costs:
53% work out payment plans with their provider. That’s probably the best option, although it ends up being one more bill to add to the list at the end of the month. I’m still paying off that $2500 hospital bill I previously mentioned.
37% have had to borrow money from family or friends
34% have increased their credit card debt
70% say they cut back spending on food, clothing, or other basic household items.
41% say they took an extra job or worked more hours.
59% say they used up most or all of their savings.
35% say they have been unable to pay for basic necessities like food, heat, or housing. (Singlecare.org)
The statistics at the bottom are exceptionally high and staggering. 70% have to cut back on basic household items/comforts in order to pay medical bills: Is it really a succesful or efficient healthcare system if you have to choose between food or medicine?
In addition to our quality of life/quality of health being impacted, I mentioned our ability to accumulate wealth, which for Millenials have proven more difficult than prior generations: According to Caroline Ratcliffe, a senior fellow at the Urban Institute who studies asset building and poverty, wealth is stagnating for younger generations compared to their parents and grandparents. For people under 40 years old: their wealth has only inched up compared to their parents in the 1980’s, and many factors affect that: Credit cards ( see prior posted article on credit card debt), Student loans ( future article) and of course medical debt:
When one in six Americans have past due medical bills on their credit report, it affects their ability to secure a good interest rate on a home or auto loan. ( PBS.org) We’re constantly told how real estate is one of the best ways to accumulate wealth, yet these unnecessary and predatory forms of debt make it harder for us to do so. A lot of these past due bills average about $600(CNBC), but when most of us have credit card bills, monthly living expenses, student loans, and living paycheck to paycheck, how easy is it to pay $600, realistically?
The additional injury to injury ( because we’re long past insults to injury), is the fact that medical care is slated to become even more expensive. It’s expected to hit $6 trillion by year 2027, and it’s already 2020!
When individuals, the federal and state government, and private business seem to share an equal balance of overall medical expenditures ( be it through medicare, the cost of employee covered insurance etc etc), why then would medical costs go up?
It goes back to the beginning of the article, where we pointed out how unchecked the healthcare industry is. Despite the fancy words and round about explanations we may get from lobbyists and those in healthcare, in addition to being gaslit by them that rising costs are unavoidable, it most certainly is avoidable.
Don't forget, compared to other countries that have comparable wealth to us, everything is more expensive here in the US, and there doesn’t seem to be a disparity in the actual quality of care. For example, the total health spending per capita is 84.8% more expensive in the US than in Canada.
In America, they perform 322 C-sections for every 1000 live births, which average a cost of $16,000. In the UK, it’s 264 C-sections per 1000 live births with an average cost of $6k.
An MRI averages about $1115 in America, yet averages to about $215 in Australia. (Singlecare.com).
These countries are comparable in wealth to us, so is affordable and universal health care really that far fetched or radical of an idea in America? Especially when it’s driving such a staggering amount of people into debt? The answer is NO. Based on the medical cost and quality in other countries, not only is it possible, but easy to make it affordable and universal. There are so many different models that are currently working that we can choose from to emulate even.
Health insurance, healthcare and pharmaceutical companies need to be governed or regulated here in the US. Otherwise, the health care system is just another player in the systemic debt traps that seem to be set for the poorer masses, and it’s a problem that’s only projected to get worse, especially for Millenials. It’s grossly affecting our overall quality of life and ability to generate wealth. These statistics show that while the sick get sicker and entrapped by debt, the healthcare industry and those at the top will benefit the most financially from our plight. This current system is neither logical, nor sustainable for the masses, the greater good, or for the economy.
What ever happened to the Hippocratic oath to do no harm?

@ren-amamiyaa and their (he/she?) Golden Heist, Thief Nanako and Cryptid Chaser aus flooded my brain and now Im making this post bc I cant fit all of this in asks!!!
All right, so, idea. Cryptid Chasers, Thief Nanako and Golden Heist are all connected righr???
CC acts as a prequel, TN becomes the inbetween starring Nanako and Akechi, and GH stars a broken and older IT and slightly jaded PT.
So far CC has Yosuke and Naoto forming the brotp that fanon wanted through silly Saturday Night Ghost Chasers Shenanigans, Akiren is bein' a lil shit at midnight bc he needs an outlet and exercise to Phantom Thief. While this goes on, Akechi's ghost/spirit/rement/heart/whatever pulls pranks and shenans along with Joker (hiwever that happens).
As the Cryptid Chasers keep going out of their way to confront Joker about Arsene (bc even he likes to mess around) the other IT in Inaba start to try and stop them from disrupting the peace (read : harassing a known criminal) and this somehow leads to a falling out. Mayhaps Naoto and Yosuke break a few laws and Chie busts them, Kanji wants to know why theyre stalking his student/protege, and Yukiko just wants to keep the rumors about the inn in check bc jfc Yosuke STOP SCREECHING IN THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT IN THE LOBBY THERE IS NO GHOST ON THE TV!
Maybe eventually they call it quits or dont bc Naoto dug this hole too deep to climb out themself and Yosuke is having the time of his life since Partner isnt around and hasn't come back to visit yet (Not sayin' souyo is canon and there but-). And the Cryptid Chasers arc probably ends here with there being some animosity towards their shenanigans , but the IT are all still friends.
Now fast forward to like, uhhh (*flings dart at wall of calendars*) 2014 during winter and Akiren's cryptid acts are now fully accepted and maybe exposed, who knows. Nanako is like 10 ~ 12 (P5 is maybe three/five years post P4 I believe) and is just going through the motions of public education. I.E. go to class, do work, get good grades. Dojima is still the same as he was before Yu came but is at least doing better at being a dad, not much but better. Yosuke and Ted aren't around as much bc Junes, Chie is transferred to Tokyo, Yukiko is busy managing the Inn, and Kanji is busy with work (as a teacher and crafts business owner). Rise unfortunately cant come visit and Big Bro now visits every other year.
Nanako starts to look back and wonder how things started to fall apart amongst the group and recalls that "delinquent" who came back at the same time the Cryptid^tm showed up and ruined the group. So now she starts to remember the good times when Big Bro came by and starts to notice some blanks around winter... Why was she in the hospital when she got kidnapled? Why does she remember these weird flashes of Big Bro and his friends and some monster?? And how come she tried to ask them anything about it they brushed her off each time???
The TV in her room flashes and soon she starts hearing things. She starts to move closer to the tv, as if she was in some sort of trance, as the sounds start to become voices to her. When she's directly infront of the screen she sees something... someone on it...
Nanako doesnt show up for breakast, or to school, and nobody seems to have seen her.
A full year passes on after that day. It starts off with a big search party of the IT and Social Links for the first two months, then after ankther three something stange happens... are people forgetting that Nanako existed or something? Everybody's starting to act like completely different peoplw than who they are too, some even end up hospitalozed due to severe headaches and such, and start claiming that Nanako was never around when she vanished or that she left Inaba or was already deamed dead or missing. This rings alarms in the IT's mimds as they search for answers, eventually all fully reuniting for the first time in years/months.
Naoto and Yosuke blame themselves bc they piece together her disappearance with the Cryptid + Ghost case and immediately get scolded for trying to pin their stupid kids game on a missing person's case - especially now with Nanako missing and possibly in danger again! Afterwards the IT are a bit on edge and a bit broken with the whole thing. Meanwhile Akechi can hear the tale ends of "missing person" and "literal disappearnace" and starts looking into this weird limbo metaverse he's in bc some shit is kinda fucked in here now for some reason. They're pretty much only together as a team to rescue Nanako.
GH in the PTs POV starts when Akiren invites the group to the Amagi Inn thanks to licrative money grin- I mean training. He comes clean into having seen something weird on the tv one late night and wants to let the gang know.
Midnight rolls around and Akechi shows up on the screen and the Thieves losing their shit is an understatement - numerous noise complaints were filed that night. Anyways Akechi decides to just play the role of "hey moron, some shits fucked come help fix it" and ends up informing them of a missing girl and this weird TV Mementos world he is in.
I would like to note that Akechi is not at all bitter or confused at everyone's circumstances in life, no of course not Joker stop crying I know its been a while but shutup theres a kid in trouble rn and youre the only ones who can possibly help her.
When the PT figure out a plan to reach this other world Goro is in (Arsene : THOUARTTHEESTICKYOURHANDINTHETVDOITDOITDOITDOIT) the IT eventually come to the very sad conclusion that Nanako moght be in the TV world and that opens a whole can of worms and burnable bridges to cross.
While in the TV world, I'd like to imagine that due to Akechi having been there for a good while it has been shaped to reflect his heart and be the new overall theme of that world. It all still looks like Inaba, but it all holds themes to Akechi and his no good terrible life. However due to Nanako having been in that world as a kid, and now for an uncertain amount of time, the world now holds motifs to the Heaven area from P4, but it's all sorta ruined and kinda darker.
When both teams get together and enter the weird Tele-Mentos world (IT in a Junes storage and PT at either Ren's pad [bc he moved out obvi] (OR bith teams enter from seperate TVs at the Inn so SHENANS!)) Yu and the IT go through Akechi's influenced world/TV Palace, finding out about his tragic backstory and involvement with the PT, but anything that can and could reveal their true identities is blurred and staticy or missing bc Akechi aint gonna snitch out who ruined his sperm donors life (also I guess saved the world too yeah). While going through the Palace the Team starts to think that finding Goro will just be an "if it happens" sort of deal bc he's been missing for years already, what if we just leave him here bc M U R D E R E R.
Cue a sudden appearance by someone in some sort of fallen angel garb who starts whipping out a full on Metal Gear Villain monologue about how hypocritical the IT are when they find the truth about Akechi's life and disappearance - they claimed to want to live in a world where no one hides in the fig, was that all a lie? Are they going back on their word, and hiding behind a shriud of lies and falsehoods once more? "You've gone and lied and hidden the truth already, what's to say you won't continue?"
Meanwhile Akiren and the Thieves enter at the very top of the Heaven TV Set and have to climb all the way down. As they do so they start seeing little murals or epitaphs about memories and people in this girls life. They see all of these memories of a happy girl who had such a loving family - both found and by blood. As they go further and further down the ruins start to look like an actual Heaven, and the scenary becomes more bright and colorful. Eventually they might run into Crow in his Black Mask clothes and give the bastard a slug on the arm and a group hug or two, bc man he doesn't deserve to suffer anymore like this.
Now that the Phantom Thieves have been reunited (Akechi : I can't leave this world The PT : FUCK, MORE PLOT) they end up thinking up ways to get Akechi out until this weird angel priest looking dude shows up and starts babling about how they are criminals and how they've done more bad than good and blah blah blah. Everyone is just all "We're the good guys, we do the right thing even if its morally grey/ambiguous!" and oh look! Another crazed maniac wants to kill us for our "injustice" *Crow has the decency to look away and not say anything* annnnnnd Heaven is locked off. Perfect.
Now maybe the Phantom Thieves and Investigation Team run into each other somewhere in Akechi's Palace and "You have Personas?!?!" "The hell is a Palace?" "YOU'RE THE CRYPTID OF INABA!!?!?" "And Im the 'Ghost' that follows him." "Wait you followed me as a ghost?" "WAIT WHY ARE THERE TWO AKECHIS??!??!!"
Oh yeah, Shadows... Akechi is still kinda in denial about the whole friends and justice thing...
And now the Dark Priest is back great ("Good name Skull" "Well I've got my moments right?").
Annnnnnnd now I have no idea what happens next and Im all burned out but AAAAAAAAA this entire AU crossover thing is so GOOOOOOOOOOD!!!!!

Genre: Assassin! Baekhyun
Warnings: Violence
Word count: 2.7k
Summary: One drunken night leads to your life getting entangled with a network of assassins. You became their target, and Byun Baekhyun the shooter.
________________
“C’mon, c’mon! Pour up, Y/N!” Yejin exclaimed as you were fumbling with the lid of the soju bottle. It was you, Yejin, and Jongin, sitting in the living room of your apartment, for your monthly drink night that takes place every 2nd Friday with the aim to get absolutely drunk.
“I’m trying, you know!” You yelled back at her, the alcohol making you slur your words. You continued to fumble with the lid, but it didn’t want to budge. “Fuck!” You were about to throw the bottle against your wall, but Jongin caught your wrist before you could.
“I got this.” And with a flick of his wrist, the lid was off which meant more soju.
Not too long after, the three of you were long gone, laughing at ridiculous stories of the past.
“Listen— It’s not funny! I actually liked her!” Jongin was whining, as you and Yejin couldn’t stop laughing. “Jongin— you genuinely thought that giving her a bear mug would do the trick?” Yejin laughed even louder as she clung onto your arm, resulting in Jongin merely huffing and taking another swig from the bottle.
“You know... despite this university being supposedly for people like us… rich and all, it’s still boring. We’re so secluded from other universities! We can’t even go to their parties!” Your hands were thrown up in the air as you complained, your friends nodding in agreement.
“We should do something— something fun.” Yejin suddenly narrowed her eyes before pointing at you, her finger pressing into your cheek. “You. Miss I’m-an-incredible-hacker.”
You furrowed your brows and pointed at yourself. “Me?” Your answer made Yejin roll her eyes. “No, I’m referring to Miss Jongin.” Which resulted in him giving Yejin a light shove.
“Y/N, you should hack your way into Black Pearl and get us a free subscription on their alcohol and snacks. Wouldn’t that be fun! Right, Jongin?” The male nodded and stuck up both his thumbs.
A light scoff left you as you climbed over Yejin to grab your laptop before falling right back in your seat. “Piece of cake. Watch us bathe in champagne and pretzels!” You said with a grin before you opened up your laptop, cracking your fingers before you typed away.
Originally, you were born and raised in Seattle. But your parents decided to send you to a prestigious and private university in Seoul. They had the money, you had the brains. It was a match. And there you were, in Seoul, with your own apartment, own car, and the drive to graduate in biotechnology. That’s where you met Yejin, Jongin, and Chanyeol. It clicked right away, and you guys became a tight group of friends.
Chanyeol, unfortunately, couldn’t join the drinking night due to his working shift.
Not all 20 year olds were born with a silver spoon in their mouth.
“Y/N. You’re so slow. You suck at hacking.” Jongin murmured, causing you to narrow your eyes at him. “Don’t rush me! I don’t want to make mistakes.”
“Is that why we can’t look whenever you hack into wherever…” Yejin pursed her lips, causing you to roll your eyes at her as you continued to type away.
Soon, you noticed that you broke past the firewall. It confused you however, because liquor stores shouldn’t have such tough firewalls. But you were too far gone to think straight, obviously bathing in pride that you once again successfully hacked into another place, even when you were clearly drunk.
“Guess who’s making a breakthrough? This girl!” And your friends yelled in happiness, raising their bottles before taking a huge gulp.
Your eyes were glued to your screen once again, yet they slowly widened as you saw something very different pop up on your screen.
Black Lotus.
With furrowed eyebrows, did you delve deeper. And with regret. Suddenly, you could see a huge list of names. Some had red lines through them, others were underlined. You clicked on one of the names with a red line through them, and widened your eyes once again, feeling nausea hit you.
He was dead. There was a gaping hole right through his forehead.
The next picture was a news article speaking about this man’s death. But that wasn’t all. There was so much more. More names. More pictures. Locations. Weapons. And money. Lots of money. The numbers you saw made you gasp.
“Y/N? Is everything alright?” Jongin asked. But you didn’t respond. You couldn’t.
“Y/N? Hello? You’re paling!” Yejin snapped her fingers in front of your eyes, causing you to come back to your senses, quickly closing all tabs and slamming your laptop shut.
“I— Uh, it didn’t work. They had a second firewall I couldn’t break into. Sorry! I’m calling it a night. Goodnight!” And you quickly stood up, stumbling slightly before regaining your balance and making your way up the stairs and into your bedroom, leaving your friends confused.
You didn’t know what you just saw, and how on earth you got into their system. But god, did you wish that you didn’t.
—————————————————————
On the other side of Seoul, Minseok, the one in charge of Black Lotus, was currently furiously cursing.
“Fuck, fuck, fuck! How on earth did someone manage to hack into our system!” He was clearly frustrated, fingers threading through his jet black hair as he couldn’t stop walking around in his office.
“Seemingly our defense is too weak.” Baekhyun murmured with a shrug, comfortably situated in one of the armchairs.
“Shut the fuck up, Byun. This isn’t the time for your remarks. We don’t know how much they’ve seen.” Minseok quickly moved back to his desk, furiously typing away at his computer all whilst Baekhyun simply gazed at him.
“Let me guess, you’re trying to find out?” He tilted his head slightly to the side, brushing his brown locks away from his eyes.
“Do you genuinely think I can find out how much they know. I can’t get into their head— Ah. Well this is interesting. They, or should I say, she, should’ve hid her IP address.” A grin spread over Minseok’s lips as he leaned back in his seat, turning the computer towards Baekhyun which had a picture of you on it.
“Y/N Y/L/N. Currently attending Haesan university. 20 years old, and has a habit of visiting the gym every saturday evening. Byun, I have a job for you.”
“Does this one pay me well?” Baekhyun rose an eyebrow as he got up this feet, hands dusting off his pants.
“Does me not shooting your brains out count as a payment?” Minseok hissed at the male, causing him to let out a light laugh and raise his hands in defense.
“She really did piss you off. I see. How do you want me to take her out? Fast? Slow and agonising? You tell me.” Baekhyun’s fingers were playing with a small knife that he held, fingers brushing the blade before he locked eyes with the other male.
“I don’t care. Just get the job done. And you know how we work here at Black Lotus. You go in, as—”
“As silent as the black night. Take out. Vanish. I know the protocol, Minseok. Come on, I’ve been doing this job for how long now? Easy now. Am I not the one that earns us the most money?”
“Don’t get cocky, Byun. Just go.” Minseok said with a sigh, as Baekhyun merely grinned before walking out of the office and down the hallway.
“Y/N. You don’t know what’s coming.”
—————————————————————
The next day, at university, you tried your best to convince your friends that nothing was wrong. You played it off with the same excuse of the firewall, and that you left them because you felt very nauseous due to drinking too much. They didn’t buy it at first, but you continued to press that that was the truth and to just leave it be. Eventually, they agreed.
“So, anyone joining me tonight on my gym session?” You said as you and your three friends were walking towards the parking lot of the university.
“Sorry, I have another work shift tonight.. We will definitely hang out together soon! I’ll ask my boss to change my schedule next week?” Chanyeol said with a small smile. You simply nodded before turning to Yejin and Jongin.
“You see— we’re still pretty hung over from yesterday. We planned on getting some coffee and crashing at Yejin’s place. Sorry, Y/N. We’re not as sporty as you are.” Jongin wrapped his arm around your shoulders, giving you an apologetic smile.
“You guys suck as friends. I’ll go alone then. Watch me rock that summer body.” Your eyes narrowed at your friends before the four of you burst out into laughter, soon seperating to go to your own cars.
Later that evening, you decided to walk to the gym. If you were going to get sporty, then walking was that cherry on top. Once you got the gym, and stored everything in your locker, did you walk up the stairs to start your usual treadmill session for half an hour. You had your earbuds in, and were very focused on maintaining a solid breathing pattern as you ran. Yet you couldn’t shake the feeling off that someone was watching you.
After an hour or so, did you call it a day since your muscles were evidently complaining. Boxing asked a lot of effort. With a sigh, did you step out in the cool night air, zipping your coat further up as you made your way back home. That eerie feeling of earlier was still rather present. That feeling of someone watching you. You didn’t know what it was, but it made you pick up your pace.
Two streets later, and you felt very much followed. You didn’t know what was going on, but it was slowly starting to make you panic. You quickly turned the corner, nearing a busy shopping street. Yet before you could turn that very last corner, did you feel a pair of hands clutch onto your shoulders, pulling you backwards.
You were about to let out a piercing scream, but a gloved hand covered your mouth as you were pulled into a secluded alley. You were then thrown against the brick wall, the person in front of you pressing their forearm against your throat.
You couldn’t see clearly, since it was quite dim, and the person in front of you was wearing a mask and cap. The only thing that you could see were a pair of what seemed to be dark brown eyes, gazing intently at you.
“Wh—What do you want? Money? Take it—” You managed to choke out, struggling to breathe with their forearm still pressed against your throat. The person rolled their eyes and shook their head.
“Don’t worry. I have more than enough.” He murmured, his voice sounding quite smooth compared to the rough way he was pressing you against the wall. He then reached into his pocket, pulling out a sharp knife.
“Unfortunately, I’ll have to bid you farewell. Sorry, love. You shouldn’t have hacked into our system.” The male pressed the cold blade against your jaw, slowly sliding it down to your throat, leaving a cut on your jaw. Your eyes slowly widened as you realised what he was talking about, panic washing over you.
“I—I didn’t see anything! I don’t even know what Black Lotus is! Please, don’t—” You were gasping for air, as tears started to well up in your eyes.
“Assassins, sweetheart. Like I said, you shouldn’t have hacked your way into our system. Goodbye.” He pressed the blade against your throat, and you started to squirm against his grip. You didn’t want to die. There was too much left for you to do, and you didn’t want one drunken night to ruin everything. That’s when you realised something. Your legs.
You struggled even more against his grip before lifting up your foot, and kicking the male right between his legs, causing him to topple over, dropping the knife in the meantime. Once you were free from his grip, did you also fall down to the floor, gasping for air. Yet you realised you didn’t have the time for that, quickly grabbing your bag and dashing away from the male.
However, you felt a strong grip on your ankle as you tried to escape, pulling you down to the ground with a slam, causing you to groan out in pain as you landed right on your left arm and leg.
“You bitch.” The male muttered as he grabbed the knife again, quickly hovering over you and pinning you down to the ground. You continued to struggle against his grip, squirming around even more as he tried to cover your mouth once again. When his hand succeeded at covering your mouth, did you part your lips to bite down firmly onto his gloved hand, causing him to curse and pull it away from your mouth.
“You really are a tough one, aren’t you.” Yet before he could do anything else, did you let out a piercing scream.
“Someone please help me! In this alley! I’m being attacked!” You continued to scream as you struggled more and more against the male, trying to make it as difficult as possible for him to do anything with the blade. However, your struggling was soon stopped, as he firmly pinned your arms above your head, sitting with his full weight right on your abdomen. You tried to move, but to no avail.
His grip tightened on your wrists, as he kept them in place with one hand, the other reaching out for the knife once again. Tears welled up in your eyes once again as the blade came in your sight.
“Game over, love.” And you felt the cold metal press against your throat once again. But that was until you heard a voice yell.
“Hey! What’s going on here!” It seemed to be a male. Soon, his voice was followed by another male. And another male. And a woman. All stood by the opening of the alley, yelling at the man on top of you.
“Someone call the police! He’s attacking her!”
“Fuck.” You heard the male mutter. He quickly let go of you, before getting up from the ground, looking around before he clicked a rope with a hook tied to it off his belt. He threw the hook up, until it was secured on the edge of the building to your right, and quickly climbing his way up before the spectators could catch him.
And with that, he vanished.
Yet there you were, on the ground, tears still streaming down your cheeks as you slowly tried to sit up, two of the spectators walking up to you and crouching next to you.
“Miss, are you alright? My god, what happened there?” Did the woman ask, reaching her arm out for you, as she slowly helped a wincing you up. Your arm and leg hurt, and you expected to find bruises on them the next morning. You shakily lifted your fingers up to touch your bleeding jaw, wincing once again at the contact.
“I—I’m fine. Thank you for saving me. But please— don’t call the police. I’ll be fine. Please.” You shakily exhaled, looking at the two spectators with a sad smile. You had a feeling that if the police got involved, it would cause a lot more trouble. Plus, they’d find out that you’ve been hacking, and that would get you into trouble as well.
“But miss, you’re bleeding.” The man pulled out his phone, as he pointed at your jaw.
“It’s fine— Please. I’ll call someone to take me home. But please don’t call them.” You practically pleaded. The male sighed before nodding, and the woman slowly helped you stand up. You felt your legs tremble, and you had to brace yourself against the wall as you took out your phone to call Chanyeol.
You didn’t know what you got yourself into, but it wasn’t pretty. You hacked into the database of Black Lotus. An assassin network. Suddenly, you hated soju and swore to never touch it again.

pl ea se info dump about your ocs
oh boy ok you,,, don’t want this but u already asked and it’s too late to go back so im just gonna start talking
ok so i have like 2 separate oc worlds and 3 seperate groups of ocs within those (these are just the main ones, there’s ones i don’t think abt anymore and ones i’ve abandoned and fan characters and stuff but if i went over all of that i’d be here all day so i’ll just stick with these)
so the first world is just our world, modern day, but with magic. there’s this one town, barnsley, georgia, that’s cut off from the rest of the world. most ppl drive by without ever noticing it, and if someone tries to go in who’s not wanted the town will disappear or try to kill them or just do something to keep them out. it’s a vaguely sentient town. in barnsley there’s a big forest and no one’s ever gone in and come out the other side. there’s ambiguous danger in the forest, mostly faeries who will make you fall in love with them and then kill you and harvest your bones and stuff.
so there’s like 4-6 characters depending on where we’re looking at in terms of what storyline i’m following (this is the one that i did nanowrimo for three (3) times and have over 100,000 words of thrown out content for and obsess over constantly so it has the most solid plot and there’s a lot of it) so anyways i’ll just go over all 6 and try to make it as simple as possible without talking about converging storylines and alternate drafts and stuff
ok! so! vi larson-park is the daughter of one of barnsley’s 3 great magicians! her mom could do all sorts of crazy magic and i can’t get into the parents’ backstory here bc they have a whole OTHER story and that’s just. too much (maybe i’ll do that later? we’ll see) so yeah her mom did magic and also made some bad deals and stole some stuff from the woods and indirectly caused some ppls deaths but it’s like fine probably. so vi grew up with her mom, natalie, her mom’s witch girlfriend, erica, and erica’s twin brother, simon (who i’ll get into later and also who doesn’t exist in half the scrapped drafts) in this big empty DEFINITELY HAUNTED house on the edge of town where erica grew up and they were good and happy. then like a year ago natalie was killed by nick, who i’ll also get into later, and that’s kinda the end of her story, vi and erica are obviously devastated and they have a funeral and vi starts having the occasional odd dream here and there, but things go back to normal after awhile. vi has absolutely no aptitude for magic, and because of that she often feels alienated by erica and simon who are VERY magical and always talking about things she doesn’t understand. she’s fiercely loyal and protective and not really scared of anything. she’s always wanted to know what’s in the woods but knows better than to go looking
tyler is vi’s best friend and also 50% whole entire Not Human. he either came from the woods or was found outside a random gas station in like arizona or something depending on which draft i’m going by, but either way he was found around two years ago and has been clinging to vi ever since. his backstory is a big unknown to the human characters and no one really knows anything about him. he’s a faerie prince, the son of the erlking, who’s sort of the ambiguous villain of the story but i’ll get into him later. he has 3 brothers, sorrel, dain, and kell. sorrel is the oldest and known as the winter prince, then there’s kell for spring, dain for summer, and tyler himself for autumn. (btw his name isn’t actually tyler technically it’s robin but i'm not gonna get into that rn.) sorrel is cool and collected and stone cold bitch, and all he wants is to be king so he roped tyler into helping him try and kill their dad, which failed, so then he lost his position in the royal court and now he’s doing tons of morally gray stuff in an attempt to get back in his dad’s favor so he can kill him for real this time. dain and kell are sort of nothing at all and you don’t need to know anything except dain is really mean and violent and kell is an ally(?). after the whole failed killing debacle tyler ran away to barnsley in hopes that he could find something in common with the humans, since he’d been a faerie all his life and couldn’t stand it. he’s quiet and doesn’t like doing or saying things unless he absolutely has to, is generally unhelpful unless something benefits him, scared of being alone, hates being indoors, runs around barefoot and only eats food from the woods. he’s kinda like an outdoor cat.
nick and marcus jacobs are brothers and general hooligans. nick is the older one (he’s 19) and marcus is 15 and they grew up in barnsley for the first 14 years of marcus’ life until marcus accidentally killed their dad and they left town. which the dad killing subplot is really a lot to get into but basically their dad was the second magician, along with vi’s mom, except the effects of magic on a person can kinda drive a person insane and the others managed to keep it together but he slowly went crazy until he was paranoid and in pain all the time and ended up taking a lot of it out on his sons which ended in him threatening marcus and marcus in an act of self defense unleashing raw magic power he didn’t know he had and accidentally killing him and also taking out all the power in the entire town and causing a minor earthquake. it was a Big Deal. so yeah they buried their dad in the backyard and skipped town. after their dad died all his magic went down to nick so nick has newfound power (marcus btw has never been able to use magic since then and has no idea how he did it) but he also has voices in his head and weird dreams, and with all the voices yelling at him all the time he realizes that the only way to get rid of them is to get rid of the magicians. his dad did some magic bullshit that made him the vessel for the magic once he died but the other magicians didn’t so he doesn’t have to kill anyone besides them and it makes sense bc i say it does shut up. so for like a year they drive around aimlessly, meet with and kill vi’s mom, meet with and kill aidan’s dad (i’ll get to aidan once i’m done here), pick up a hitchhiker depending on which version of the story i’m telling, then go back home where they’re not really welcome anymore but that won’t stop them. nick is cold and mean and. y’know. a murderer, but he also loves marcus greatly and gets attached to people more easily than he would like to admit. he’s sort of closed himself off and resigned himself to killing “for the greater good”, but it’s hard for him, and there’s definitely people he wouldn’t kill. he fully planned to, once he got rid of the magicians, never kill again, and he keeps that promise. marcus is soft spoken and anxiety ridden and a bit of a crybaby and he hates death and doesn’t fully trust nick and doesn’t trust himself either. on the outside he appears bitter and angry constantly.
aidan mulligan is a HOOLIGAN! a whole entire rowdy boy! he’s also the son of the third magician and marcus’ ex(?) boyfriend? more like boyfriend on standby. it’s complicated. there’s nothing special to him, he’s rowdy bc his parents never gave him enough attention so he runs around with people he doesn’t really like and is always getting into trouble. his favorite activities are skipping church and running the local cryptid watch am radio station, which no one listens to and which he used to run with marcus. he misses marcus dearly and keeps waiting for him to come back. he’s loud and talkative and his mood changes drastically but is always on the highest setting. he’s either screaming-and-throwing-things angry or unable to shut up and bouncing all over the place. not to pick favorites but he’s my favorite i really love him. his life moto is “fuck you dad” basically. oh yeah nick killed his dad and stuff and it’s hit him hard but he’s not as torn up by it as he probably should be, which he feels terrible about. his mom lives on the other side of the country and doesn’t currently know his dad is dead, which isn’t really something you’re supposed to keep secret generally but the mulligan family said fuck the rules. he has two brothers, connor and seamus (connor older, seamus younger) and loves both of them though he would never admit it.
simon diederich is the secret special bonus magician!! also i think i gotta talk abt parent backstory for him so,,,, here goes: basically, simon and vi’s mom and marcus and aidan’s dads all stole magic from the forest in a way that doesn’t super make sense but it’s my story i can do what i want. and in the process simon died and they had to leave him behind in the woods, but then since the magic in the forest was weak it couldn’t continue being formless or else it would turn into nothing since so much of it had been damaged by the humans or w/e. so it took simon’s body as a vessel and resurrected him with all his old memories but also 100% more magic power. so he took that power and went back home and has been just straight chillin, unaging, for 30-ish years. he got like. immense wisdom when he was resurrected and is also possessed by a sentient forest so he does what the forest wants which is protect the town and fistfight anyone he doesn’t like. he’s obnoxious and immature and thinks he’s hot shit and loves these trees more than he loves other people probably
bonus character: lila is the ghost who lives in vi’s attic. she’s like 7. i love her
THAT HURT MY FINGERS TO TYPE. I HAD TO MOVE TO GOOGLE DOCS TO DO THIS BC TUMBLR KEPT LAGGING AND MY WORD COUNT IS NEARING 2000 BUT W/E LETS KEEP GOING
next, still in the same universe, are the residents of greywell, washington. greywell is what’s on the other side of those woods no one can cross in barnsley. how does that work? magic obviously. greywell is a lot like barnsley but more sinister, it’s a lot newer so the characters aren’t as fleshed out (with one exception) and there’s really only 3 i actually care abt so this ones gonna be a lot shorter. i’ve thought abt plot but nothing solid so there’s some...stuff but mostly this one will be short
zoe hammond: amateur teen witch who’s also cursed. she has an eye on her left hand which is always watching her and she wants off desperately. u know how i said in some versions of the story nick and marcus pick up a hitchiker? that’s her, going to barnsley bc she knows its magic and hopes someone there will know how to fix her. she respects authority and stays in line for the most part, but she also takes shit from no one. she’ll talk to nearly anyone but doesn’t particularly like anyone in town, also she sells witch shit out of the trunk of her car in the school parking lot
wesley: short rowdy trans boy with absolutely no self control who’s stoned all the time and does crazy things for the adrenaline rush and doesn’t bind safely and falls in love with every boy he meets. he skateboards bc of course he does. he’s always ready to fight and punches ppl a lot but usually ends up losing fights bc he’s tiny. i love him
noa: ok this dude went into the woods one (1) time and now there’s this magic glove stuck on their hand? and a ghost in their phone?? and they’re literally so confused and they’ve never had any friends in their entire life but all of a sudden that weird lesbian witch and her crazy skateboarder friend are talking to them all the time and they died? except they woke back up like nothing had happened even though their head basically blew up? and there’s like faeries and stuff coming after them because they want the glove and they can’t get the stupid thing off their hand and they have no idea what’s going on noa is an absolute nervous wreck who’s really fun to draw and they have no idea what’s happening to them and tbh i don’t rly know what i’m doing either but i’m having a good time
ada: the phone ghost.
last set!! i have them all done already from this thing i did with @dogstoes so i’ll just paste them in but first background:
this is a completely separate world, it’s like this 1910s era fictional city with magic and shit. the magic system is kinda complicated but basically there’s elemental magicians who are heavily tied to religion, they’re believed to be sacred and god sent by p much every organized religion. they do elements, it’s pretty simple. then there’s blood magicians who can basically transmute but they have to use their own blood to do it. anyone can learn to be a blood magician but most ppl don’t want to bc. blood ow. blood magicians are an ABOMINATION AGAINST GOD and there’s a stigma against them in religious communities so they tend to populate big cities and less religious places. there’s also healers who are born like elementals and can’t be trained, they’re isolated from both schools of magic bc unlike elementals they’re not pure (well, depending on which religion you ask) and unlike blood magicians they’re not common. born magicians are born with pure black eyes (irises? the colored part. not just all black) that differentiate them from nonmagic ppl. there’s also super intense mary sue magicians who r rare and born with red eyes (i started this world when i was 13 don’t judge me bitch) and they can shapeshift kinda? but in cool ways, it’s not just shapeshifting they could also make their skin tough or nails pointy or w/e. one of them specifically likes to harden his own blood in weapons it’s kinda metal. anyways here’s the character profiles from the google doc pasted in word for word
Characters (bc i suddenly decided this is Sharin With Rivers material If You Shall Take It):
So basically there's these 2 gangs, run by this woman Lyra Frey and this dude Lucas Sweeney, and they Do Not Like Each Other At All. Neither of them are good bc yknow...gangs….but lyra’s is like...better anyways here's characters
Lyra's dudes:
Emil Finch: 21, any and all pronouns, ace, lyra’s right hand man/ veteran of a bloody civil war (TECHNICALLY a war criminal but yknow…it's whatever). Likes cats and Arya, dislikes cigarettes and being short. Their birth name is Emilee, which they  shortened to their liking when they moved to The Big City, and they used their father's name (Finn O'Malley) to join the war. They're a healer magician but ssshhh don't tell anyone. They used their powers to hurt people when they were in The War and now don't trust themselves, so they stick to traditional medicine thank you very much. (Also knives. They’re a big fan of knives.)
Arya Frey: 21, she/her, Lyra’s adopted daughter and mechanic. She has METAL LEGS and has to walk with a cane so she doesn't go outside much, mostly makes machines and strategizes for her mom. Likes drawing, Emil, making things/taking them apart, dislikes cold weather (it makes her joints hurt), magic, Drunk Emil. She has two cats named vriska and karkat. Everyone is suspicious of these names even though it's like 1910 and an alternate universe and homestuck doesn't exist.
Jaz Anaheim: 18, he/him, big gay disaster, a pickpocket who came to the Big City with his brother when he was 16 to work and send money to his mom, stole from a kingpin, joined a gang, watched his brother die in front of him, and lied to his mom for 2 years about his job and his brothers aliveness while he sent her blood money. He's a humble farm boy, no magic, tall and uncoordinated, basically all he can do is steal and flirt badly and he's very aware. Also where he came from magicians were rare because they were all drafted for the war so when he sees magic he's way too impressed. Likes loud music, people being interested in him, his family (just his mom now :’)), his hometown, dislikes the city, feeling disliked, himself, swimming
Sweeney’s band of assholes:
Elliott Sweeney: 24, he/him, Sweeney’s son and certified dad hater. He's a blood magician which are common and not that impressive but he’s good at what he does bc he did nothing but practice for like 6 years. His dad basically controls him and makes him work for him because he's useful. He resents his dad with every ounce of his being but doesn't have the spine to do anything about it. After accidentally burning down part of their house and killing his mom his dad sent him away to the summer house in the country, where he lived for the past 6 years, obediently doing his dad’s bidding and learning how to control his magic until he got fed up and burned that house down (on purpose this time), making his dad move him back to the family house in the city so that he could keep an eye on him. he’s one of those badass mega magicians who does blood swords and stuff, he’s also spent so much time reading that he knows a lot about magic theory. Quiet, reserved, extremely petty, but shows a sense of humor around his sister. Never really knew Alise growing up so he’s more of a cool uncle than a brother. Likes his sister, learning things, astronomy, dislikes his dad, Emil, doing magic, fighting, feeling trapped
Alise Sweeney: 14, she/her, her dad named her Alise with an S because he's just that much of an asshole. She's a self trained blood magician and good at what she does. She hates her dad almost as much as Elliott does but she's also not a fucking baby about it. Is DEFINITELY planning on killing him at some point. Was raised to make jokes and do crime and her brother said if she does crime she's grounded. Has never been serious about anything ever, and probably has a screw loose. Has killed people. Is basically a tiny fighting machine. Her dad was rough on her growing up. Likes picking fights, Elliott and Atticus, pissing off her dad, causing trouble. Dislikes her dad, people stronger than her, tense situations, being alone
Atticus Grey: 16, he/him, not Sweeney’s son but hates him enough that he probably could be (in case you were noticing a theme here, sweeney is kinda unlikeable). His mom left soon after he was born and his dad ran up a huge debt and ended up working for Sweeney to pay it off, then died in a gang fight before he could get through it. Sweeney, the merciless motherfucker that he is, decided that Atticus would finish paying it off, and snatched him up as soon as he was 13. His dad used to hang out with Emil’s and so they ended up taking care of parentless Atticus (along with (extremely reluctant) Arya. Atticus is really close with Lyra’s entire crew because he's spent so much time around them. He's a fire magician who knows a bit of blood magic but barely uses it, and he's an angsty bitch. Likes Emil, being alone, dislikes everything else.
oh yeah then there’s those bitches in charge:
Lyra Frey is a [REDACTED] year old woman from [REDACTED] who moved to the city while fleeing from [REDACTED]. She was in the civil war briefly, fighting for the [REDACTED] side. Her real name is not Lyra, but is actually [REDACTED]. She loves Arya more than anything else probably. Sees Jaz as an unofficial son, is skeptical of Atticus, likes Emil but doesn’t trust them.
Lucas Sweeney is one of those rich bastards who also does crime on the side. He’s a politician but everyone and their mother knows he’s an absolute crime lord on the side. Has arguably more power than Lyra but has no idea how to use it, plus Alise has already recruited like half his employees into joining her uprising. He’s a selfish man and a terrible dad. No one likes him.
uh yeah that is. all!! this is over 3000 words jesus do asks have a word limit? i sure hope not
