While she was still alive, I did not think Hinako was more precious than the other children. But now that she's gone, she looks the best, and now I feel I don't need the remaining 6 children

“[...] as long as ignorance and misery live on earth, books such as this one could possibly not be useless”
—Victor Hugo, preface of “Les Misérables”
i had this oc in my head for quite some time and i reaaaally wanted to draw him
i have an undying love for hugo's works, he is a genius, and i'm a hopeless romantic soul so yes, if i had to design a bsd oc, it had to be victor hugo
some facts about him :
—it absolutely doesn't show on this drawing but he's an ENFP
—he's a temporary member of the ADA after yosano met him in the street. he was fighting with his ability and screaming about justice
—he was basically kinda homeless before joining the ADA, but didn't really mind it, he met people and slept here and there and he liked it
—he just got his literature diploma in france and decided to go explore new countries in order to learn other cultures but he's super messy and chaotic and super super broke
—random fact about his design, i absolutely wanted to give him a gavroche in reference of a hugo's character, gavroche, that died fighting for his rights and his liberty
—kunikida's gonna question his whole sexuality and life plans and feelings when they meet for the first time
—yep, babe's gonna panic when he realizes he's in love with the french anarchist
—dazai is the first to notice (of fucking course) and proceeds to both annoy him and help him processing it
—victor's ability allows him to create a space where violence is prohibited. absolutely nobody can get hurt nor hurt anybody, the only thing allowed is talking. victor chooses who can enter and leave this space
—he is the embodiment of empathy and generosity (that's also why he's broke), he is a very sensitive soul that just wanna see inequalities and violence burn in the hell fire
—he's a huge fan of muse, cavetown and renaud
—fun fact, nobody understands a word when he's listening to renaud's songs and just assume he's relaxing but the lyrics are actually the most angry and anarchist and anti capitalist and rude lyrics you've ever heard
i could say so much more and i want to think about him even more but i'll stop there. anyway, i have some more wip of him on photoshop so i'll post about him again pretty soon (﹡ˆ﹀ˆ﹡)
kiss kiss fall in love everybody 💚

there’s something about bsd fics written by people who have read and enjoyed classics (usually the irl version of the characters) that hits different

while i am on the topic of bungou's author-characters btw, i think i understood how it's fictionalisation real writer figures works better once i realised bsd characters aren't caricatures of the authors as people, but more personifications of the collective literary oeuvre of said authors; the characters are adapted from their writing, rather than the people. obviously, the line gets blurred fairly frequently, for instance in references like the iconic photograph of dazai sitting cross-legged on the bar stool, but a degree of ambiguity is natural, when the boundary between real writers' construction of their selfhood and the construction of their artistic creations is so unstable anyway, hence why it's natural and smart to have bsd's author-characters so often motivated by trying to write narratives of their own selfhood, once again blurring the boundaries in this sort of many-layered tension between irl author's selfhood vs their fiction vs fictionalised bsd author's selfhood vs their fiction vs the fiction they are a part of (asagiri's). but generally speaking though. i think the characters are easier read as representations of the author's work, than as loose recreations of the authors themselves

Rintarou had a good relationship with his children, you will not find anything about them speaking bad about his father or being afraid of him... Rintarou Mori never gave them traumas, he was an admirable dad
For what I know, his ex couple's didn't hate him at all... But I can't confirm this information since I don't remember where I may be read that
On the other hand, Soseki Natsume's children were traumatized, afraid of him... He had most horrible memories than good memories with their dad, some of them completely feared him, others had still respect for their dad
The "special case" being one of Soseki's grandchildren who was extremely empathetic towards him
His ex-wife ended up bad psychologically speaking because oh Natsume's behavior, which is extremely depressing
Isn't it curious how in BSD we see the opposite?
Mori is remembered mostly for bad things, both fandom and characters
Natsume is remembered for more good things, both fandom and characters

Who is your favourite OC?
Can you describe them? 🤭♥️
I have a lot but I'll separate them in categories or whatever it is spelled
Bungou Stray Dogs
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Makoto Dazai
Makoto Dazai is 8 months younger than Osamu Dazai
Being Ougai Mori's bodyguard, Makoto is in the Port Mafia even after what happened with Oda, he has always and will always stay on Mori's side. His ability makes him able to control rats
Makoto is a trans boy, autistic and blind, also Ougai Mori's height. Osamu is obsessed with him in a way that he overprotects his younger brother
Hiroki Maruyama
Covering his right eye because someone took that eye, Hiroki Maruyama is a 28 years old who shares Chuuya's height
Grumpy former trainer in a yakuza, nowadays works in a brothel but in an AU he's a teacher in a school. He's disabled not only because he sees through one eye that makes his life difficult, he has issues walking and is always using a cane
574
2 meters tall man looks scary but is actually extremely soft
Former trainer in a yakuza, now takes care of the daughter of the boss who died. He's a bodyguard, has always been a bodyguard and is in charge of giving the numbers to the people of his (previous) criminal organization
From 0 to 1.000.000, the closest it is to the 0, the stronger the person is with their ability/skill
Bungou Stray Dogs Beast
Tumblr media
Gabriel García Márquez
Inspired in the author of the same name, he's from BSD Beast
He owns a restaurant (cat cafe) with his cousin Ángela Vicario and her husband Bayardo San Román. His ability is inspired in the book Chronicle Of A Death Foretold, he's the same age as Hirotsu
M. M.
Tumblr media
Max Gómez
Protagonist of the first part of my original story. Max Multiverse
He's a grumpy teenager in that picture, and uh it's hard to explain his world but I hope the multiverse-thing give you an idea
He's 25% a OC self-insert, I started doing his story when I was literally 4 years old lol
Kid is the vessel of a powerful demon, mother abusive, doesn't know his biological dad is the brother of his dad, has an older brother... Max ended up in an asylum after burning his house with his family in, ended up doing a deal with the strongest demon of them all and bla bla bla
B. A. D.
Tumblr media
Jack 4
That draw is old as fuck but he's the Jack of universe 4, from the second part of my original story, Black And Demons
Jacks are demons that are the personifications of traumas in humans, the reason why they are traumas rather than the feeling of fear
Jack 4 is in charge of a place called «The Prison/Jail» where powerful and dangerous being are sent so the multiverse won't be destroyed. Oh and his right hand? Oh it's connected to the place he's also locked in and can't scape
BSD OCs inspired in authors excluding Gabriel García Márquez
Tumblr media
Egon Wolff
He's a homeless person inspired of two characters by Egon Wolff. El Merluza in Paper Flowers and China in The Invaders
Ranpo doesn't trust him and is afraid of him
Obey Me!
Tumblr media
Zalgo
He's a demon and the personification of fear, inspired in the creepypasta of the same name, Zalgo
He covers his eyes because when people outside his dimension of chaos stare at him, start crying and shaking in fear extremely traumatized
He gets along with Diavolo, met his dad, Barbatos is his best friend and Lucifer doesn't trust him at all
Jujutsu Kaisen
Tumblr media
Kiyoshi Hira
Yes the same picture of my profile picture without the cat ears is a JJK OC
Masamichi Yaga's best friend, Kiyoshi isn't a sorcerer or part of the Jujutsu world because he doesn't get along with the people in charge
Kiyoshi hates Gakuganji, Gojo is afraid of him, Kiyoshi had a wife but died because of Gauganji. Yamato is the name of Kiyoshi's only son
His cursed technique makes him able to control cursed energy just by talking, murmuring and screaming. He can extract cursed energy, absorb it, make it part of other living things, and can communicate with cursed spirits and all of it– Uh he almost destroyed the world one time but can't see in one eye and half of his body is paralyzed because of an accident

Note
as someone who suffers from suicidal ideation: dazai is terrible representation lmao
we never see him breaking down, or feeling genuine despair, or having people notice his depreciating humour. he seems suicidal just because.
also, sometimes it's borderline disrespectful to irl dazai.
I’m not sure if this is in response to my blog as a whole, or my rant about this topic in this post specifically, but either way. Yeah.
Dazai’s suicidal tendencies come across more as a quirky character gimmick than an actual genuine facet of his character.
Possibly it will be explored more in some form of backstory content, which would make current day Dazai make more sense— as in, he used to be genuinely suicidal, but is no longer looking to end his life, and now acts like this out of habit. His automatic response to people isn’t “hi, how are you”, but “I wanna die”, because that used to truly be the way he would feel.
Either way. You’re 100% right.

Verlaine was intrigued by Rimbaud, and replied, "Come, dear great soul. We await you; we desire you."
Source : Wikipedia
The real life Rimbaud and Verlaine were so complicated. Verlaine abused his wife and child and both of them lost themselves to drugs and alcohol. And then Verlaine shot Rimbaud.
