Got just past the ribbing last night. Pretty much gonna be white stockinette to the top (i mean, and some shaping). Figured id do the back first, since the front will have some colorwork to look forward to.
Also--meant to post it with the yarn, but look at how many nepps i pulled off while spinning that jacob. Its such a wonderfully soft fleece, but completely full of them.

2022 fic year in review
Total number of completed stories: 40 (woah!)
Total word count: 63,861
Fandoms written in: Death in Paradise, Father Brown (2013), Ghosts (TV 2019), Lewis (TV), MASH (TV), Midsomer Murders, Murder in Provence, New Blood (TV), Our Flag Means Death (TV), Queens of Mystery (TV), Shakespeare & Hathaway: Private Investigators (TV), Shetland (TV), The Brokenwood Mysteries
Looking back, did you write more fic than you thought you would this year, less, or about what you’d expected? Definitely more fic and in so many more fandoms than I expected.
What’s your own favourite story of the year? This is actually really hard for me to decide because I played in so many new playgrounds this year and each playground has its own ups and downs. One I really liked and thought was rather clever was Just a Literary Device  (New Blood)
Did you take any writing risks this year? Oh lord, yes! I wrote more crossovers than ever: Death in Paradise/Shetland, Ghosts/Shetland and kinda Shetland/Van der Walk. I tried and failed to do NaNo, but learned a good deal. I wrote the first two fics in a fandom, which I found wild. I finally wrote a bit of the Robbie Lewis’s son/James Hathaway fic that I have always wanted to write.
Do you have any fanfic or profic goals for the new year? I want to finish Hearts (Shetland series) and give it the ending it deserves. I am working on a couple of fics for the Shetland Fic Fest. I also want to finish the Death in Paradise/Shetland casefic I started for NaNo.
Most popular story of the year?  Of Reed Warblers, Cloud Gazing, and Butterflies (Ghosts) by Kudos, Don't Hide Your Love Behind a Hardened Mask (Our Flag Means Death) by Hits, and The Young Perez-Hunter Chronicles (Shetland) by Comment Threads. The last might be a little unfair since that is a Shetland fic and the fandom does tend to have full conversations in the comments. <3
Story of mine most under-appreciated by the universe, in my opinion: It is a tie between Provençale Quiche (Murder in Provence) and Just a Literary Device. I get that these are tiny fandoms, but I actually quite like both of them and would love to see both fandoms grow. Plus, they are vastly different fics, but I think they both have some merit and lovely moments.
Most fun story to write: Als een feniks uit as gerezen (Shetland). I loved learning some Dutch and also creating a partner worthy for Billy was fun!
Most unintentionally telling story: when i look at you… and i look, and i… and i’m home (Death in Paradise) As someone who has struggled to accept her sexuality for about a decade and only started telling people that I am Asexual, Biromantic in the last 18 months, I think that this was the most telling. Making Neville Demisexual was actually really scary for me cause it oddly felt like a confession. I am not sex adverse and write sex scenes infrequently, so it seemed like I was setting myself up for being called a hypocrite. However, that has mostly not happened and I am so happy about that! Being Ace/Biro is hard enough in real life, I really didn’t want fandom coming at me too.
Biggest disappointment: Not finishing NaNo. I am the type of person that when I set myself a challenge I finish it, so that was a rough failure for me.
Biggest surprise: That I actually wrote in THAT many fandoms!! It is crazy to me. Also, that all but two of them are tiny fandoms, so while nothing was viral or blew up I have been getting Kudos almost every day. That is huge for me.
Um, since @greenapricot tagged everyone that I would have tagged, I will skip tagging for now, but if you see this and want to do go for it!!

"When I was eleven or twelve years old, I used to shop in the boy's department at Bloomingdale's, just as the other prepubescent private school girls did. That was where you could purchase polo shirts, Shetland sweaters, and all the other socially acceptable androgynous clothing for our age group and gender. They fit and suited me just fine, but what would have suited me even better was nothing other than an actual suit: the three piece variety mad of thin-wale, beige corduroy with brown simulated leather buttons.
I knew exactly where they hung in the boys' department, and I paid them a visit each time I was in the vicinity. It's funny, but though I can't remember at the time ever seeing a girl or woman in one of these suits, that did not hinder my imagination of what that would look like. Neither did the shortage of real life models ever lead to any questions about why exactly there was one. Somehow I had simply gotten it into my head that such a sight would be wonderful. And, though once again I felt no need to ponder precisely how I knew this, clearly, the most appropriate person to wear such a suit would be me.
Picturing myself in the suit, I was suddenly a lot taller and older and stunningly sophisticated,. The suit seemed to have the almost magical power to make me strong, wise, just. The vision of myself naturally included physical as well as mental capabilities well beyond those of an eleven-or twelve-year-old, but who was I to disbelieve the suit's mystique?
I never tried one on. Although the desire to own one felt perfectly natural to me, it had been met with a mixture of mocking laughter and horror by my mother. Something about her response definitely said, "No." and, "Tell no one." So the suits, like forbidden fruit, remained there untouched by me for years, moved at times from one corner of the department to another, but always just out of reach of my young body's many secret yearnings.
Roughly fourteen years later, as I was walking in the rain, I suddenly realized I was butch. Everything made sense. My butchness came as much more of a surprise to me than my lesbianism, which, despite some years of procrastination on my part as to actually adopting it as a daily lifestyle, I always knew and comfortably accepted.
The way I ever so swaggered and stomped my clunky boots when I walked, and felt sort of proud of it, now made sense. The way I firmly held the umbrella over the woman I love and protected her from the rain as I guided her down the Brooklyn street took on new clarity. The freedom and invincibleness I feel after a close haircut I better understood. The pleasure and vanity I indulge in when I stretch my muscles to lift something that looks heavier than I can manage all at once held new meaning. The childlike glee I feel every time I discover something needing to be fixed in the house and the puffed=up self-importance that fills me each time I fix it had new significance for me. Even my tremendous need for control could now be explained. And my assertive overtures of passion in the dark where I gently bur firmly demand submission most of all seemed to fit.
I gripped the handle of the umbrella tighter and walked along with, I'm sure, the stupidest grin on my face, flashing the woman I love periodic glances of affection as she continued to talk happily, oblivious to the volcano that had just erupted beside her. There, in the rain, as a flood of feelings and enlightenment washed my insides, I had one final glimmer of insight. I at last understood that without ever actually buying the three-piece suit made of thin-wale, beige corduroy, with the brown, simulated leather buttons, I had been wearing one all along."

Ahem. Fiber festival haul...
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Firstly, this incredible shetland fleece @rival-the-rose traded me for some hampshire and that distaff I made (which just doesn't work for my messed up hands, hopefully it will work for them !). The crimp is so unbelievably fine, I can't wait to work with it ! 1 pound, 8 ounces (675 ish grams)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Secondly this incredible jacob lambswool. Admittedly I'm just obsessed with Jacob, especially lambswool. But this is so soft and fine and has almost no vm (having been coated ! Never spun a coated fleece before !) And has sooooo much lanolin. Smells beautiful tbh. Gonna make a great shawl or scarf I think ! 1 pound, 4 ounces (560 ish grams)
Tumblr media
This is greener than it looks in the picture. Super pretty and soft--the seller said it was a merino cross. This will be for moss yarn projects :3 6.5 ounces (190 grams)
Tumblr media
Tons of dyed mohair locks. Everyone was selling them and for very cheap ! Mostly greens (for the moss yarn as well) but a few other colors for blending with. 5.5 ounces (150 ish grams)
Tumblr media
Random grab bag--the bigger brown lot is suri alpaca--I think the rest is cashmere or pygora, slightly felted. 2 ounces (50 grams)
Tumblr media
Felted Buffalo down. Was incredibly cheap bc it was felted. I think I can get some good fiber out of it though--it's not too bad. And some random wool on the left that was also in the bag. The Buffalo is 2 ounces (50 grams).
Tumblr media
This incredible cvm batt from a sheep named Cissie. This was her wool when she was younger, the shepherd and I were talking and she showed me her more recent fleece, which was oatmeal colored. Apparently she is the model sheep, and the shepherd loves her a lot. Honestly, will add to the spinning experience. So so soft ! 3 ounces (90 ish grams)
Tumblr media
From the same shepherd, this southdown romney blend batt. So nice and sturdy. 3 ounces (90 ish grams).
That's all I can fit on this post, the rest will be on the reblog !

curly + gangly + get that bitch some contacts
Tumblr media Tumblr media

Tumblr media
MICHAEL: black shiba
hes just a sweet little guy. very round face. he also would have been all over doge when that was a thing
Tumblr media
(if i had to cast for michael in an actual show about dogs though, he would be an old english sheepdog. thats just his archetype. a goofy tan pitbull would also work)
Tumblr media
CHRISTINE: border collie
decently pretty but kinda average dog breed... not as silky and girly as the girls (see below). she's so full of love... definitely gets zoomies and will rip a hole in your drywall but you will forgive her
Tumblr media Tumblr media
BROOKE: shetland sheepdog

Things I like/love that have been ruined in canon.
In no particular order:
Star Trek: I was so-so about all the TV sequels/prequels (liked DS9 for about a minute).  But the movies . . .  Fuck Amok Time, they gave us Horny On Demand Spock and Kirk sexually harassing females across the universe.
Tumblr media
Star Wars:  Jar Jar Binks.  Need I say more?
Tumblr media
Doctor Who:  I really enjoyed the original series, even though it fell apart in the last years.  The remake made The Doctor a romantic/sexual being.  No no fucking goddamn no.
Tumblr media
Supernatural:  After Season 5, took everything everybody loved and broke it, killed off favorite characters for Shock Value, then faked bringing them back just to kill them again.  Really really hated its fans.
Tumblr media
Sherlock: Second season became super self-conscious that it was A Hit, started mocking women because being written by a gay man and a misogynist.  Really really hated its fans, then whined when fans stopped watching and the series was canceled.
Tumblr media
Sleepy Hollow:  Was just staring to get into the Ship when its creators literally verbally attacked fans on Twitter, then intentionally destroyed Ichabod/Abby by killing off Abby. Really REALLY hated its fans.
Tumblr media
American Auto: Started out clever and funny like The Office, in Season 2 devolved into 4th grade potty humor.
Tumblr media
Clarice:  Gave it a chance even though there was no Lecter.  First two episodes showed promise, then made Clarice a whiny, weak character, then added an incredibly ahistoric 1991 trans “women” FBI agent -- at a time when in reality gay male agents were fired for fear of their being blackmailed -- who literally yelled at Clarice, and Clarice took it.  Thankfully its ratings plummeted after that and it was canceled.
Tumblr media
Grantchester: Watched it for Geordie, then they had Geordie cheat on his wife.  NOPE.
Tumblr media
Foyle’s War: The original series ended perfectly.  Then they dragged it from its grave and made a thin, forced series about the Cold War.  Bleh.
Tumblr media
Inspector Lewis: The original series ended perfectly.  Then they dragged it from its grave, made Dr. Hobson clingy and whiny, ruined the dynamic of Lewis and Hathaway, ended it terribly.  Bastards.
Tumblr media
Endeavor:  Revealed Thursday cheated on his wife during the War, then had Thursday accept bribe money, then the series finale . . .  Don’t ask.
Tumblr media
Shetland:  Perez goes against his ethics and tries to fuck his close friend’s wife.  But especially they had Tosh r*ped.  Fuck that shit forever.
Tumblr media
Once Upon a Time: First season was wonderful.  Second season iffy.  After that turned the series into a promotional vehicle for Disney movies.  Robert Carlyle gained 30 pounds, lost all energy, and mailed in his performance.  They tried to end it well, but brought it back rebooted and godawful, especially by killing off Belle.  Truly, truly awful.
Tumblr media
MCU:  I loved the first Thor, first Captain America, first Avengers, the Ironman trilogy, and especially Spider-man: Homecoming.  Then it all went to fucking hell.  Don’t get me started.
Tumblr media
Miraculous Ladybug: From season 3 on, its creators took it from being a fun, exciting, sweet, enjoyable superhero story to trying to turn it into part of the MCU.  Fucking do NOT get me started about what they did to my man Gabriel.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Possible Future Canon Ruin:
Father Brown:  3 cast members have left the series and been replaced.  Haven’t seen Season 10 yet, but I have a bad feeling about this . . .
Tumblr media
Addendum:
Rewatched Seasons 7 & 8 of Foyle’s War and actually liked them quite a lot.  Me having a crush on Tim McMullan helped.
Have seen Season 10 of Father Brown . . .
Tumblr media
The directing is slow and stiff.  There’s no dynamic worth mentioning among the new characters.  All the episodes felt like dress rehearsals, not polished performances.
