Sexuality Headcanon:
Idk I think he has like, a complicated relationship with sex and the concept of desire? Like, he's not opposed to the idea of sex, if it happens to come up (heh), but it's not something that he feels driven to seek out on his own. His relationship with sex is kind of like my relationship with chutney, I think? Like, if there's no chutney, that's fine. I won't go buy chutney, or go looking for chutney, and I don't feel like my food is incomplete without the chutney, but if the chutney is there? If it's readily available right at the table? I'm not saying I've accidentally put so much chutney on a burger that the patty fell out and I didn't notice, but I'm not not saying that either, you know?
Honestly, I think his sexuality can be best described as 'lazy'.
Gender Headcanon:
I think he has a complicated relationship with his own gender, in that he probably thinks his father would have preferred Jiang Yanli to be the sect heir, but Jiang Cheng was The Son, and therefore he, who was much too much like Madam Yu to please his father, was the heir. So it's not that he's genderspicy or whatever, it's just that he doesn't particularly like being a man and feels that his life might have been simpler if he'd been a girl and JYL had been a boy. Madam Yu would have enjoyed having an extremely cunty daughter, I think, and not being The Heir would have meant there would be less pressure on him to be So Grownup All The Time.
A ship I have with said character:
So like, I think he loved Wei Wuxian a lot, but I don't necessarily think it was romantic? But I can be convinced because honestly, Jiang Cheng is not well about Wei Wuxian and that can manifest in many ways. One ship that I do love for him, however, is Jin Guangyao. I just think...look, these boys are both fucking feral for family. The depths of their loyalty...it's insane. Like, do you know how much abuse it took for Jin Guangyao to turn on NMJ? three murder attempts, it's insane. And I think that him and Jiang 'casually carrying around my brother's flute thirteen years later incase he needs it' would actually be very good for each other. Of course you would either have to go poly or somehow short-circuit JGY meeting Lan Xichen, but it can work, and it can work really well!
A BROTP I have with said character:
Okay, hear me out on this one: Lan Xichen. I just...I don't see them romantically at all, but I think that they could be extremely good friends, if the stars align properly. Because I think Lan Xichen would enjoy having someone around who hasn't fallen on his mouth, and his gremlin side would appreciate Jiang Cheng's cunty side, while I think Jiang Cheng would appreciate having a friend like LXC.
A NOTP I have with said character:
Look, it's a free Internet and everyone can do what they want, but pairing him with Lan Xichen just confuses me. Like, why? Jin Guangyao is right there and him and LXC are obviously in love, and they've had 20 years in canon to be more than Some Dude to each other, and there's no evidence they ever did. But like, if it makes people happy, that's cool!
A random headcanon:
There are still no dogs at Lotus Pier.
General Opinion over said character:
I LOVE HIM SO MUCH. He's such an amazing character and I want to both stufy him like a bug and wrap him in six blankets.

A random headcanon: Well she IS actually heir to the merm throne. It’s just so overcome with a thirst for knowledge so she doesn’t like staying in the merm kingdom for too long. Running around all over the place. Those peace treaties r gonna go crazy when its older though.
General Opinion over said character: I THINK SHE IS VERY CUTE I wish we got to learn more about the whole goat -> merm stuff too. Wurt’s dynamic with Wickerbottom is very cute also and I think it has the most killer skin lineup ever.

I’m going to regret this. But. For the character meme thing, Pops. Because I’m on my daddy issues bullshit.
What I like about him: Hidden depths, canon has at least the basics for fleshing out a solid morally gray complex character.
What I dislike about him: In canon? Not fleshed out, treated as completely good. In my headcanon? The type of parent who thinks he's a good parent but, uh, if you look at Chisaki you can tell that he's really really not.
Least/Favourite moment: Man, I haven't watched those episodes in too long to answer that.
A situation with this character that I want to see explored more: Him parenting Chisaki, and his own childhood/growing-up, his relationship with his daughter, his relationship with his wife--his history in general, and not just with Chisaki.
An interesting AU for this character: One where the Hassaikai died a lot earlier, like when Chisaki was on the younger side of the teen years, and he has to adjust to regular civilian life while trying to parent a feral hyper-anxious teenager who still thinks that he took him in because he needed an heir.
A crossover: With AtLA; I think it would be fun to compare/contrast him with Iroh. I even have a Tumblr draft that compares the two characters, although if/when that'll ever get done is a complete mystery.
OTP (or OT3+ etc…. just… favourite ship): His...wife? I think? Maybe? She'd be an OC but I don't really do romantic shipping with Pops.
Other ships?: No romantic ones, that's for sure.
BROTP: If we're sticking to the vibe of 'bro' in 'brotp,' then perhaps Irinaka? There's still an age difference but I think they at least knew each other when they were young. If we don't stick to the vibe of 'bro' then possibly Chisaki--Pops definitely wants to be a good parent, and Chisaki really really needs a solid foundation/secure base for his mental health.
NOTP: I think I'm just gonna skip over this one for now.
An assortment of headcanons!:
This one is going to be fun. I've mentioned a lot of the sadder ones in an earlier post, so let's do some funnier/more lighthearted ones. Like this: he's masc nonbinary and demibisexual and realizes absolutely none of that. He thinks he's totally normal. Nobody actually finds strangers sexually attractive, right? And every dude wants to kiss their best guy friend on the mouth. He tells Chisaki to date more, that he'll find the right girl and really connect, because that's literally what happened to him. (Chisaki's aro gay ass is shrieking in frustration.)
He was definitely the romantic type with his dates (and even more so with his wife). Very big into chivalry, but not in a pretentious or (very) misogynistic way--liked to hold the door open, push in the lady's chair, give her her favorite flowers. He never really understood the whole swagger other boys would put on to try and impress girls, because the girls were clearly not impressed--and besides, the end result isn't to impress, it's to court. He kept telling his guy friends as a teenager/young adult to just talk to the girl they like instead of strutting about, but no one ever listened to him.
I think that's it for lightheated Pops headcanons. This was fun to think about!

Character ask: Ariel's sisters (I feel like there's a few that stand out but they're usually always grouped together anyways)
Favorite thing about them: From what we see of them, they're nice mermaids, and they have nice names and unique looks and colors. I like it when they get their occasional days in the limelight: e.g. in Ariel's Beginning (which I've never actually seen; I probably should, just because it features more of them), or in certain picture book stories that revolve around them, or in the occasional episodes of the '90s TV series where they shared adventures with Ariel. Visually, my favorite is Arista – the platinum blonde with the red tail – and I remember enjoying the one limelight episode the TV series gave her, which revolved around her and Ariel resolving their sibling rivalry. I should try to find that episode and rewatch it.
Least favorite thing about them: That they're so underdeveloped. In Andersen's original story, their bond with their little sister is so much more important, first as their tales of the surface tantalize her until she's old enough swim up there herself, and later when they give her the knife to kill the Prince and change herself back into a mermaid. But in the Disney version, their presence feels almost like a redundant artifact: the movie could have cut them altogether and made Ariel an only child and the plot would hardly change. I wish they were more important and their relationships with Ariel more fleshed out.

Random headcanon: At least two of them are fraternal twins. Maybe all six of them are sets of twins. That would explain how so many sisters can apparently be so close in age, and why they're all young enough to still be unmarried even though their youngest sister, Ariel, is already sixteen.
Unpopular opinion: While I understand why Ariel's Beginning makes Attina the eldest – her hairstyle looks the most "womanly," and the crownlike spikes she wears in her hair can be seen to mark her as the heir to the throne – I slightly prefer the earlier media's portrayal of Aquata as the eldest. She's the first to be named and sing a solo cadenza in the original film, and her name, which means "water" itself, seems all the more fitting for a future queen of Atlantica.

Ashe Fire Emblem pls
ASHE. ARCHER BOY ASHE. Such a sweet boy, such a good knight.
Favorite thing about them: His devotion to his siblings (both Christophe and his brother and sister). He cares so deeply about them, and is so determined to make the world a better place for them. I love how he is willing to acknowledge that Christophe made mistakes, but is still devoted to him, and cherishes his memories of him.
Least favorite thing about them: He has a tendency to let those who he views as having higher status walk all over him. It’s completely understandable, given his background, but it makes me sad for him. While he eventually gets much better about it, it’s the only thing I can think of that bothers me about him.
Favorite line: “I think I know what I need to protect now. It's been staring me in the face all this time. I don't know why I couldn't see it. I'm Lonato's son. His pride and his wishes are my inheritance. Those are what I should protect.” [From his B support with Gilbert. I love how Gilbert tells Ashe that Lonato was wrong to forget about his duty towards Ashe, and Ashe acknowledges that and still wants to honor Lonato.]
BrOTP: Ingrid. They just have so much fun together. They really understand one another, especially after Ingrid realizes that Ashe isn’t as naive as she first thought. Their relationship is also really low pressure, because Ingrid doesn’t feel like she’s going to get married off to Ashe (not that it wouldn’t be an advantageous match, it would, given that Ashe is going to end up with Gaspard territory. But it never really seems like Count Galatea would consider it.) Ashe doesn’t feel pressured to put on a show of proper behavior around her, because he views her as another future knight. It’s just a really good friendship.
OTP: Dedue. I really love their relationship and how they enjoy each other’s company so much. They really understand one another, and I love how Ashe acknowledges he can’t understand Dedue’s experience of racism, but he will fight it with all his heart. I also like him and Byleth together, particularly in AM or VW. I almost S-supported him at one point. He is an idealist in a way that Byleth can really benefit from.
NoTP: I don’t really have one. I’m not really into him and Dimitri, but I don’t hate it. Generally, I think Ashe gets along with everyone really well, and would be a good partner for almost anyone.
Random headcanon: He gives his children the Gaspard name, even though he never takes it himself. They are, after all, the heirs to Gaspard territory. Of course, the moment he steps down in favor of his daughter, she immediately changes her name to Ubert, and from then on, Gaspard lands are ruled by the Uberts. In later times, stories proliferate about the common-born knight whose honorable nature, devotion to his people, and virtue made him beloved by his people. The Knight of the Silver Bow becomes something of a folk hero, and as the founder of the Ubert line, is remembered in song and tale.
Unpopular opinion: I only have them about him as a unit, rather than as a character. He’s actually a really good archer unit. He was a major help in the final battles in my AM maddening run, especially in the final one. Yeah, his strength growths suck, but his dex growths totally make up for it, as do his combat arts.
Song I associate with them: Garmarna’s version of Herr Mannelig or Dole Teifi/Lliw’r Heulwen in Cynefin’s version. I generally feel like Welsh folk music is really fitting for Ashe

5 good qualities:
- gave us hornet!!! god i love hornet. hornet is a good quality.
- she’s clearly a very strong person!! like holy fuck!! (also i am gay)
- she sacrificed a lot for her kingdom, and wasn’t above working with people she hated to get shit done (hence why i believe in a dreamers alive au she would end up forming an alliance with the mantis tribe at some point)
- good mom herrah is the hill i will die on
- stared down pk and won. i highly doubt hornet was an option until herrah Made Her An Option. being able to stare down a god as a “common beast” is definitely a good quality.
3 bad qualities:
- maaaayyyybe she... should have taken a closer peek at thk. i headcanon her as very much Headstrong, and somewhat inflexible once she has a good plan,,, and that can work very well!!! but also sometimes it,,, doesn’t.
- herrah certainly left hornet with a sense of Debt,, like i know she didn’t think hallownest was going to fall, but she did have a kid as an heir and that is a lot of weight to put on a kid that doesn’t even exist yet. like. i love her lots and respect that she had to do what was best for her kingdom and i don’t know what else she could have done but... hornet is a little Fucked Up for reasons that are at least partially herrah’s fault. i love herrah but as somebody who’s been the kid in that situation i am like “i know this and i love u and i don’t know what else you could have done but also,,, i gotta admit that was a Little Fucked Up”
- okay complicated feelings about herrah over with, her third bad quality is that she’s hard to draw and i want to draw her so bad :(
favorite episode/etc: when i first saw her, i didn’t even have the dream nail yet (i avoided crystal peak So Hard), and it’s one of my clearest memories of hollow knight is looking at her and going “what the fuuuuuuck”
otp: (about to reveal the fack that i am a big fat multishipper) you have dragged me into the herrah/vespa pit, i have seen some good takes on herrah/monomon (also i am a sucker for Science Lady/I Am Going To Beat You To Death), but i am also very much on board with my buddy aren’s take on herrah/pk being a beneficial rivalry (he has. a homestuck word for it and he is so valid but i do not understand homestuck and at this point i’m too afraid to ask)

Izumi felt personally betrayed when Lin decided to be a cop because “how are we going to be partners in crime if you’re a cop?!” “and how are we supposed to be partners in crime if you’re the firelord, izumi?”

We Must Be Strong
I’ve never published a She-Ra fanfic here (even if I have 2 in Ao3) but, since it’s ending tomorrow, I thought it was...adequate. I’ve been in this fandom since the show’s first season came out and to think about it’s coming to an end it’s very bittersweet, at least to me. I remember watching the first season during the week I was finishing my first semester at university and I remember that semester as one of the best ones of my academic life, so I’m really grateful She-Ra came into my life in that period. This was a great experience even if each season gave me like four breakdowns per episode :’) <3
This was supposed to be a Catradora fic but I ended up writing about Adora and Bow because I love them and they’re brotp material :’3 kind angsty, but that’s how I feel about She-Ra right now, so :’).
Also, English is not my first language, but I hope you like it.

Bow had been here many times before.
Many, many times before...and he was certain, very certain, that never had the Bright Moon’s castle felt so empty.
He also had been here without Glimmer many times before. Many, many times before, whether it was sneaking in by himself when she wasn’t available to help him, or he had been requested by the Queen (Long live the Queen) to help her take her stubborn child out of her room so she could be properly lectured; and that wasn’t it. Bow had been through the halls by himself very late at night, when Glimmer was out of power during slumber parties and one of the two had to sacrifice themself to go steal snacks from the kitchen; he had talked to the Queen by himself; he had walked through the gardens by himself when the stupid fight had gone too far and now they had to find a way to apologize.
He had been here without Glimmer many times before, but never had he doubted he would see her again.
The thought of never getting to see her best friend again had never crossed his mind, but right now it was all Bow could think about.
He was usually a patient and somewhat realistic person (at least that was how he liked to consider himself) but right now, even for someone like him, it was infuriating to see how while the world inside of his head was suspended in time, the one on the outside was still moving at its regular pace, even if it was in shambles.
Clocks ticked. Hours passed. The weather changed. The breeze turned too cold or too hot. The foreign stars shone up in a sky that appeared to be somewhere it wasn’t meant to be. People spoke. People asked. People stared.
People mourned Queen Angella, because she would’ve known...No, she would’ve done better than this.
People mourned Queen Glimmer, because oh, that poor negligent heir, whose crown was too big and heavy for her head.
People mourned She-Ra, because what was Etheria to do without her; because what is that child to do without her sword.
People, hesitantly, celebrated King Micah’s return because if it wasn’t Angella, and if it wasn’t Glimmer, then he was the one to fix the mess they had left behind. Or at least the one to take their place in that unfortunate throne.
Bow had been confused and disappointed the whole time. Confused and disappointed on how they seemed to care but at the same time they seemed to not be getting it at all; how they weren’t capable to look above their own pain and realize they were falling into pieces too; How Angella had been someone’s mother; how Glimmer had been someone’s best friend and someone’s daughter; how there was a normal girl inside of She-Ra and they were lucky she was still alive; How King Micah had returned home only to find his wife and daughter to be gone.
Bow felt confused and disappointed on them until he remembered they all were in the middle of a war.
A war that, at least today, they had lost. Of course, they had won some things and, at the end of the day, they were still here in one piece.
But they had also lost too many things they weren’t supposed to. One of them being Glimmer...And She-Ra’s sword. And Bow knew they would manage to keep fighting because that’s what they always did, but he wasn’t sure how.
Scorpia was the one who came and told him there was something wrong with Adora, and Bow didn’t ask for any further proof because she had the right to feel bad and to feel absolutely destroyed. She was only human. A normal girl, even if people refused to recognize her as such because a big sword had decided to turn her into a tall, shiny, gorgeous lady.
But because he was her friend and he was supposed to be there for her, and because Scorpia looked genuinely worried, Bow decided to go check on her.
The walk to Adora’s chamber was the longest he’d ever had to walk, mostly because he had moved very slowly, scared to find out what was Scorpia referring to. Still, when the door was right in front of him, sheer courage ran through his veins along with his blood. And then, in a blink, Bow’s knuckles were knocking against the door.
No response, as expected, but now that Bow knew he had taken the time to knock and try to be polite, his conscience was clean, so he opened the door even though permission had not been granted.
When he faced the conditions the bedroom was in, there was only one thing that popped in Bow’s head:
“We hit things.”
Sometimes thinking about small children being under the Horde’s care was enough to make Bow’s heart ache for days as if it were breaking piece by piece.
Those poor creatures; stolen childhoods, stolen happiness...stolen lives.
The room looked like an hurricane had torn it apart.
Some of the furniture was on the floor; there were broken things, ripped paper sheets, ripped documents, including a map of Etheria and some unnecessarily complicated notes about Princess Prom; in fact, the only thing that appeared to have been treated with delicacy was the broken sword; placed on the bed, and all of the pieces they managed to recover placed in order, like a puzzle, only it was still detached.
Adora was the last thing Bow’s eyes found; she was knelt down, really close to one of the walls; Bow couldn’t see her face, but he could almost bet her stare was blank; her hair was down, as it had been when they had arrived, but it looked more like a mess now; her hands were placed on her lap, but even from here Bow could see her knuckles were bruised and had tiny red spots, which made him feel speechless...even breathless, he dared to say. And the need to run towards her and shake her was unbearable, but he tried to hold himself back as if his life depended on it.
And he gave her time, until Adora felt his gaze fixed on her and her head started turning around to face him. Very slowly, as if she were yet to process her body was experiencing movement.
When Bow saw her, he saw exactly what he was expecting to see.
Her eyes were red and swollen, and her cheeks looked shiny due to the tears that were still drying on her skin.
Still, when she managed to identify him, she cleaned her nose with her arm and then sniffed. Next, her dry lips were the shape of a forced, broken, barely put together smile that, if anything, made her lower lip quiver more than it made it look more relaxed. A look that, as a whole, made her emanate a more worrying aura.
Adora took a deep, faltering breath before speaking.
“Hey, Bow.” She said in a hoarse voice.
That’s when he allowed himself to finally approach her, kneeling down behind her.
Slowly, Bow hugged her from her back; Adora sniffed again, interlocking her fingers between Bow’s as her way to correspond the hug. A couple of seconds later, she was mildly shaking, but he could feel her swallowing very hard with every breath.
Bow held her tighter, closing his eyes.
Beneath her shirt, Bow could feel the traces on her skin from the scratches Catra had given her some time ago. He had never seen those scars, but he had been there the day Adora was laying face down while they tried to heal the wounds (To be honest, Mermista and Frosta hadn’t helped much).
Actually, Bow had been there most of the times Adora had allowed anybody to take care of her wounds; people tended to see her as this invencible giant lady because that was what She-Ra looked like but, in reality, Adora was scarred.
She was tossed around in every battle as if she were a mannequin; she was wounded, injured, bruised and emotionally and physically attacked every single time she had to face the war. And people didn’t seem to notice that.
Or maybe they did but refused to admit it, because it was more relieving to think of She-Ra as this almighty warrior who would get up every time even if she was bleeding to death.
And she did, but not because she could, but because she chose to do so.
And, to Bow, it was unfair to ask this much out of a person; it was unfair to be in the middle of a war; it was unfair to scar someone’s body and mind this much and this bad.
Like any kid who had grew up in the Horde and any kid who had been born in the middle of this conflict, Adora was stolen. Her everything was stolen. Literally, because she had been taken from her family when she was just a baby.

Bow felt as if he were hugging what was left of her, and if he dared to let go even just a bit, she would turn into dust.
This was just Adora. No longer She-Ra. And even if in other circumstances that could’ve been liberating, this time was the opposite.
She-Ra was gone.
Just like Angella.
Just like Glimmer.
Bow rested his forehead on her shoulder, and he felt her hold getting tighter, as she leaned her cheek on his skin.
“I’m getting her back.” Adora muttered. “She-Ra or not. I’m getting her back.”
“We’re getting her back.” Bow corrected. His voice sounding like a very thin thread. “She’s our best friend.”
And it was unfair. Very unfair.
“But we must be strong.”
Adora shivered. Gulped again. Breathed.
Spoke.
“We must be strong.” She repeated.
Because they couldn’t waste more time mourning Glimmer’s absence, because they had to use that time to find a way to bring her back.
The world was still spinning.
And time was running out.

Generally can’t listen to anything with lyrics as it just distracts me. If I have it turned down low so it’s more like background noise it’s okay, but I prefer putting on a score (MoS is my go-to) or sometimes just nothing at all.

🤷 What thing that your fandom loves do you just not “get”?
Prepare yourselves for some long ass thoughts on Barbara and why I don’t like her and why I don’t get why other people do.
I don’t get the Gotham fandom’s love for Barbara. And this is on two levels. Firstly, she’s a bad person, that somehow, to me at least, stands out in a sea of bad people. Because there are others on the show who are murderous and cruel and selfish and petty, but Barbara has always felt worse to me, I think because so much of her behaviour is toxic and abusive in a very real way, a way that I recognise. Barbara treats the people around her badly, consistently, and is straight up abusive to every one of her romantic partners. She treats Tabitha like shit again and again, abusive in both physical and emotional ways, and she’s manipulative with Renee, employing classic abuser tactics to turn Renee’s desire to stay healthy into an attack on her to create guilt, deflecting blame off her for that and other parts of their relationship. It’s the worst with Jim though. Throughout their relationship in S1 she abused his trust, ignored his boundaries, was manipulative, controlling and jealous, tried to gaslight him on more than one occasion and then either A. cheated on him, or B. left him to immediately hook up with an ex who was as knee deep in the stuff Barbara said she was afraid of as Jim, and then got mad that Jim wasn’t sitting around waiting for her when she finally came back months later, having run out of other options (and either way, she left Jim via letter, which is just a crappy thing to do). And then following her breakdown her behaviour escalates to murder attempts, physical assaults, repeated sexual harassment, and on at least two occasions, outright sexual assault.
And she is never, ever held to account for any of it, by the narrative, by the fandom, or by the other characters. When anyone tries she turns it back on them, or the one questioning her is made out to be the bad guy, and she doesn’t ever apologise or make amends or work for any kind of redemption, which would be fine if she stayed a villain, unrepentant to the end, but that’s not what happened. Which is why I will never be happy with her being the mother of Barbara Gordon. Aside from the fact that I wouldn’t want her anywhere near a child, nor do I think the character we saw for 5 seasons would want to raise a child, or be able to (remember how she told a 12 year old she should start using her looks as a weapon to manipulate people? And that time she actually did take her 10 year old daughter out of the house/away from whoever was taking care of her to drag her across town to an empty club in the middle of the night while there were criminals loose to get a gun?), she was Jim’s abuser, for years, so for her to be the mother of his child, the mother of Barbara Fucking Gordon, leaves a very bad taste in my mouth. Even when she was pregnant she spent half the time using it to punish Jim for not wanting her back. Everything about it was so spiteful and I hate it and it was a bad choice all around and they shouldn’t have done it.
And I have my suspicions as to why she gets away with all of it, why the fandom, and even the writers I think, don’t see her behaviour as anything particularly bad. There’s almost a wider issue of letting the female characters off easy for particular kinds of behaviour that male characters would, do, and rightly should get called on, stemming really from the idea that it’s fine if it happens to men. Lee can slap her partner and ignore his explicitly stated personal boundaries, he’s a man, that’s fine. Selina can lie and deliberately hurt her partner again and again, that’s fine. Female characters can beat and abuse and assault male characters, romantic partners even, and it’s no big. Barbara can spend years sexually harassing someone and there’s nothing wrong with that, because it’s happening to men, it’s fine, gurl power, etc etc.
It’s a general “problem”, I guess, that’s beyond Barbara, but for me her treatment by the fandom is the worst. I just don’t really understand why she’s so beloved, because most of the fandom seems intent on pretending she doesn’t do 99% of the terrible stuff she does, which is insane to me - love a villain for the things they do, love them because they’re villainous. It’s fiction, it doesn’t mean you approve or whatever, but the bad things they do are a part of them. If you can’t handle that, if you have to change everything about them, then you’re not really loving the character at all, you’re making up a whole new one. I mean this even extends to her relationship with Tabitha - Barbara treats her horribly, and Tabitha spends half her time seeing someone else, but the fandom holds them up as their perfect, healthy, appropriate representation lesbian queens (also erasing their bisexuality in the process). Again, if you have to erase or ignore almost everything about the characters and their relationship and their history and their personalities in order to ship or stan them, then you’re basically just making up new ones. More than anything, I just don’t understand that.
Which brings me to my other point, because the second reason I can’t stand her is the writing. Erin is a great actress, does the best with what she’s given, but Barbara is just so badly written. So, so bad. And it’s not that the writers can’t write well, even with stumbles and bad choices, the majority of the show’s characters, male or female, are written well, particularly the villains, but for whatever reason they just didn’t with Barbara. She has no consistent personality or goals. She’s twenty different kinds of crazy, which one which time just depends on the episode. Her personality and mental state and wants change multiple times each season. Who is she?
And it’s frustrating and infuriating watching a character be so inconsistent and aimless, especially when it interferes with other story arcs, which is what happened time and time again with Barbara. It’s pretty obvious that the writers had no idea what to do with her after season 1. There was a decent enough arc following her breakdown, where you could track what she was after - Jim, her love and hate and obsession twisted up so that she wants to hurt and kill him as much as she still wants him, but after the coma, she just loses focus, and it never really comes back. She floats between the other villains with very little point, like the writers couldn’t come up with a story for her, so they just stuck her in scenes. Her personality jumps all over the place too. Like, is she crazy, is she faking, is she a little crazy and faking the rest? Who is she with? Who is she working for? What does she actually want? Who is she?
And when they do manage to write something more substantial for her, it rarely makes much sense. Barbara suddenly wants to be head of the underworld? Okay then, came a little out of nowhere, but okay I guess. Then she’s an arms dealer???? Then she’s Sofia’s lackey????? Then she’s the god damn head of the League of Assassins??????????. This last one being the worst for me. Barbara’s involvement in the League arc was 100% unnecessary and in fact made the whole thing more confusing and nonsensical and is the most egregious example of the writers just sticking her in somewhere because they didn’t know what to do with her. Ra’s was only interested in Bruce to begin with, so why bring her back at all? Why give her the power when he and others explicitly name Bruce as his heir? Why would the League follow her, a criminal, and not Ra’s’ actual heir, or idk, one of his daughters who are already involved? Why would they keep following her once it became clear she had no intention of fulfilling the League’s mission? Why did she look like that chick in the painting? Why was Ra’s into her, given that literally everything about her is antithetical to everything he stands for? Why any of it?
And then there was her incredible writing in season 5. The whole pregnancy thing was badly done and pretty much the worst way to bring Barbara Gordon in, but besides that, the writers once again had no idea how to write her so they pretty much spent the first half of the season turning her into Oswald.
So yeah, that’s why I don’t like Barbara as a character, and why I don’t understand why so many people love her now.

She mentored Rhaella to prepare her for her future role as queen, and I headcanon that she died of illness a couple of years into Aerys’ reign and after her death, Rhaella and Aerys decided to have more kids because they felt lonely. I also imagine her as being a tad bit despotic.
unpopular opinion: I don’t think the fact she didn’t agree to her betrothal makes her selfish and pretentious, and I’d like to think she had a close relationship with Rhaelle and named her daughter after her

"One week. One week. Truth is punishing me. He is testing me." Alphonse kept muttering under his breath, as he watched Tuesday's class walked through the door of his brother's Alchemy class. Well, his class too next year. The main problem Alphonse had been that he wasn't prepared to fully take over his brother and his teaching style. He must continue on with Edward style of teaching and not his own, this is his year not his own. The reason for taking over for the week, Edward is still under guard of Madam Pomfrey's care for the semi-mild concussion to a severer one due to an unfortunate encounter with the school's poltergeist. Peeves had caused his brother to fall down some flights of stairs. There is no telling how long Edward will be decommissioned for the injury and recovery.
Edward will be okay, just needs to rest and the potions and magical remedies are helping the healing process to go faster. Here's hoping that he has a fast recovery.
With sigh, Alphonse pushed himself away from the desk he was leaning on when he heard the familiar ring of the bell. The classroom is filled to the brim with students, from first to seventh years. From the looks of it, he could already sense who has to leave and who could possibly stay. Picking up a clipboard from the desk and looked down to see that today's class focused on teaching the students the non-magical aspect in alchemy. He let out a mental sigh of relief at seeing Edward's side notes, showing that four students from the original class are in today's class, peer teaching by the looks of it.
Fred Weasley: He along with his brother, George Weasley, show a great aptitude in Alchemy. Remember who is who, they may be the same, but they are not. This Weasley still needs to have a deeper understanding the laws but still is miles ahead of his peers. It is noted that when he and his brother are together, their minds seemed to be linked together and are able to reach no bounds in their research. Warning: Chronic Pranksters.
Timothy Jerkins: Needs a huge dose of reality that not everyone is a stepping stone to supposed success. Appears to selfish and narcissistic, give him a hawk's eye and he'll be a replica to Mustang. The only difference… he makes Mustang look like a saint in terms of personality. Shows aptitude in the laws and understanding of the laws but does not understand how it fits in with the human side of it all. Warning: Unlike Mustang, he actually sees people as true chess pieces.
Kasey State: Where do I start? She grew up in an orphanage, said place made no stance that they even cared for her in her physical, mental, emotional and… there's no end on how much they fucked her up. She shows great critical thinking skills but shows little to no skills in non-magical subjects but is more than willing to over pile her work to get ahead. Talk to the house-elves to have food 'randomly' appear by her whenever she looks hungry and ensure it's easy on the stomach. If you suspect anything, inform her Head of House, she'll take care of it.
Elfrida Hopkirk: Very studious but always leaves everything for the last minute. It's that Ravenclaw side of her, having the brains and smarts gives them the excuse of doing things last minute with the assumption they fully understand the subject. She get's it but her heads is stuck in the clouds with that mindset. Needs to understand non-magical concepts and perhaps move her to Wednesday class. (If you are reading this Al, at least I know when to ask questions until I fully understand what the hell I'm doing before I slack off. She doesn't.)Kasey State: Grew up in an orphanage that sees her nothing more than a paycheck they are paid to supposedly to take care of her. Gave her a shitty education before coming here to this place. I swear, when I first saw her, she looked like she was starved. Have the house-elves set out extra meals for her. Needs a huge refresher in her studies but is very eager to learn. Warning: Don't visit the orphanage. Have Madam Sprout do it.
Alphonse couldn't help but smile softly at his brother's notes on his students, noticing the finer details in them. Details that need to be seen. Fred will be no problem, give him advanced work and have him help out the others. Timothy would help him, but needs to understand the human concepts of life. He'll have to break Elfrida out of that habit if hers. Kasey… Edward had once previously mentioned a student that grew up in an orphanage. Seeing said student in front of him, he could see how desperately she is trying to herself in her clothing, and failing desperately. After traveling for so long as he did and seeing the consequences of war, starvation is one of the many atrocities in humanity.
"Welcome to Alchemy, my name is Professor Elric, Mr. Elric your slated teacher is currently indisposed. Yes, we are related. No, we are not related in that way. He is my older brother. I am engaged. I am very happy with her." Alphonse couldn't help but show his utter disappointment how more than half the class visibly deflate. Seems like a lot of his fans are in class and now has to find a way to weed out the fans from the actual students.

Severus sat beside Edward's bed, a book in hand and a cup of black tea in the other. It was his turn to take care of Edward when Alphonse isn't around to make him stay in bed. Fortunately he was put into a magic induced sleep and it appears it is doing wonders for his healing process. Even so, here's hoping there won't be any long term effects. On the night table besides the bed is a package of stone cakes sent by Hagrid, one of the many forms of apologies from the half-giant.
There was no need to apologize, Edward in his medical induced haze that it wasn't anyone's fault. Animal's just have a tendency on harming him for the hell of it. This only caused Hagrid to burst into tears once more.
"What are we going to do with you…" Severus sighed, placing the now empty cup of tea on the night table and putting the book on the bed. He continued on talking as if Edward was actually listening and responding instead of being unconscious. "Not even a month in, and you already got yourself in this condition… don't give me that look. You have a tendency to get hurt, lost, maimed, insulting the wrong person, or a combination, which results with you in his sort of outcome… What did I say? Don't give me that look… Ugh… you are impossible."

"Let's not forget… even the ones that were married or promised to someone were not off limits for him…"

"Don't make me laugh. I've seen that Amestrian threaten him that if he ever does anything to offend that woman's honor, then he will be the one to beat him senseless."

"From what I've heard, he could... He's not the only one who threatened Emperor Ling."

Mustang mentally grumbled to himself as he left Grumman's office, he was just kicked out of his leader's office while his Captain stayed behind. It was suspicious to say the least. Maybe there is something going on without his knowledge? There are constant whispers behind his and Hawkeye's back, all of them revolving around this upcoming law that will permanently change the military. Whatever it is… it has to be big…

"I had made a list of all possibly candidates for once the Anti-Fraternization laws are abolished, so that you know who I approve from greatest to least." Grumman handed his granddaughter a long list of possible candidates for supposed marriage.
Riza's hand were shaking at what her grandfather had just told her, the answers to all those whispers, innuendos, and so on. Her grandfather, the Fuhrer of Amestris, is removing one of the biggest laws the Military has for who knows how long. The only problem is that… why is he giving her a list of candidates for marriage?
"I am going to be officially announcing everyone you are my granddaughter, to avoid having issues of my own."
Riza gave the old man a deadpanned expression, she swore that Roy took a lot after Grumman than she cares to admit. "The list?"
"What? I am giving you my approval to anyone you choose from the list as a possible partner in the future and not worry about me. Plus, once word get's out who you are to me, there would be marriage proposals just for your connection to myself. I want to make sure you know who would be a good possible candidate for yourself."
"Why did you have General Mustang leave the room? Shouldn't he hear the news?"
"I'll leave that for you, I'll be making everything official at the end of the month."
"Thank you?"

"I'm the twelfth person on this list?!" Roy didn't bother to hide his look of utter disbelief and dismay at the list Riza just presented him with. "How in Truth's name did Havoc get to be number four while I'm twelve! And both Armstrong's are the first two on the list! ugh!"
Jean, for his own part, slowly hid underneath his desk to avoid his head officer's wrath.
"Sir… you're missing the point." Vato called out from his spot in the office, he was scanning through the paperwork that was required to officially abolished the anti-fraternization law.
"How are you above me by one!" Roy called out to Vato, pointing accusingly at him. "How are all of you above me!"
"You could see his pride being demolished bit by bit…" Heymans whispered out to his comrades with a chuckle but stopped with Riza glared at all of them.
"They should just make it official now…" Kain sighed.
"I'm just waiting until Hawkeye slap some sense into him." Jean whispered out from his spot from underneath his desk.
Roy snapped his fingers and ignited the list up in flames. He promptly ran his hands through his hair in frustration. So, this was what was being hidden from Riza and himself, Truth… he already had plans to get rid of that law down the line. This puts a wrench into his plans. His plans involve… it involves Riza helping him bring it down under Maes's name.
Who was their main supporter…
"…I wanted to romantically propose to you…"
"Sir, the law hasn't been abolished yet."
"Is that a yes or no?"
"You haven't asked me anything yet."

i know i said i wouldn’t be cross-posting my bellamort/dark au/riddle fam headcanons from twitter but i’ve decided to post a lengthy updated masterpost here after all so ENJOY bon apetit
1. see the thing is that 90% of my hcs can’t be described with words bc they’re just.. feelings.. aesthetics.. vibes.. vague scenarios that make me feel some sort of way… the dark au has a certain Feel and i just stick a bunch of domestic concepts in there and shake it all up and that’s it shshsh
2. disclaimer: im like 75% sure my self indulgent ramblings won’t make sense so sorry about that
3. i was fully serious that one time i said on twitter that voldemort’s no.1 priority after taking over the wizarding world was doing sth about his snace (snake face) so yeah. first things first he’s not as fugly in the dark au. as mentioned previously he just looks like mr. ralph and probably wears ornate haute couture power suits
4. the public doesn’t actually know who the augurey is for YEARS… they know whoever it is is voldemort’s second in command and sure there’s rumors that he has an heir but nobody knows it’s delphi. this way she doesn’t have to be reclusive and hide away, she just lives her life, studies and trains, masters the art of dark magic, hangs around town etc, and no one suspects anything bc who would think this tiny super friendly innocent looking girl is the dark lord’s kid — her identity isn’t revealed until she’s deemed Ready to publicly take up her position. and when she is revealed it’s a Big Moment bc she’s a drama queen and lives for attention
5. delphi is taller than bellatrix
6. speaking of bellatrix. she’s presumed dead after the battle of hogwarts which turns out to be a cool bonus for the dark side. any leftover resistance? she’ll take care of that and they’ll never see her coming. tbh this seems a lot cooler in my head bc movie bellatrix would not be stealthy enough to stay hidden for years she would probs trip over something and accidentally commit arson within a few days. but yeah sneaky assassin sounds sexy. plus to be super honest i imagine bella is a teensy bit more collected than in the films... no shade at helena y’all know i would die for her but there are in fact things i would change about her bella. so yeah for a while the only people who know she’s alive aside from her immediate family are probs rod and the malfoys

Lazare
Sexuality Headcanon: GAY GAY GAY. I mean, the man has a RAINBOW across his crotch at one point. (Now, you could argue that it was a trick of the lighting, but come on. We know the truth.) Possibly with a side of demi, since I really don’t think that he really has any interest in sex until Ronan comes into his life, despite having a longtime (unfortunate and unrequited) crush on Artois and I genuinely can’t see him, say, going to a brothel or even having an affair with another officer or a soldier. I just think the man, with one, single exception, is more or less completely married to his job, and given the emphasis in army training on avoiding libertinism, the idea that “vices” weren’t inherent and could be stomped out, and my own headcanons as far as his family history...it ain’t gonna happen no matter what. Like, there are probably ongoing challenges in court as to who can successfully get the D, with no one being successful. (This has led to a number of young ladies swarming him at any given function in the hopes that they’ll be the one to melt his brooding heart.) In some AUs, like the Polyam AU, he’s obviously bi, but that’s the odd one out on multiple levels and is one of the few I’d really put into its own continuity (Come on, it acknowledges R/O, for God’s sake.) Asexual homoromantic Laz is also Very Important to me, with him trying to deal with everything because Ronan unleashes SQUISHY FEELINGS in him but he still doesn’t feel any sexual attraction towards him, though he’s not 100% opposed to sex in principle, and Ronan taking it personally because it’s Ronan and, in all fairness, it’s not like they have pamphlets on asexuality in the 18th century, though eventually they decide to navigate it in a way that makes them both happy.
Gender Headcanon: Generally, I write him as more or less cis, but trans Laz has a very, very special place in my heart since it puts his need to conform to society in an entirely different light. Like, it could be a Lady Oscar-esque situation where he’s an only child and Mama Peyrol and Papa de Peyrol (mainly Mama de Peyrol because *someone* is probably either in a brothel or on campaign WHOOPS) get worried and just...straight up raise him as a guy from the time he’s about 4-5 years old and he’s okay with it because, well, he is a guy and he’s happy that they finally notice that (and since boys habitually wore dresses until about the age of 7 when they had their breeching, this wouldn’t even be a Major Deal and they could probably come up with some bullshit reason for why they’d had a daughter baptized but now have a healthy son. Or if not, they just, like, bribe the local priest. Because they’re aristocrats and can afford to do shit like that). Then Papa de Peyrol dies, Grandpapa de Fuck comes into play, and it becomes more of a Thing, with always Upholding the De Peyrol Name and Fulfilling His Duty becoming the focus rather than, idk, raising a well-adjusted kid. Like, he gets some points for not misgendering him, but on every other level? Dude’s still an asshole. Because he’s Grandpapa de Fuck.
Laz is taught that he has to be the best grandson and heir that he can be, that no one can ever have a suspicion about him, which also becomes a bit of a strain as the pressure to marry looms in the future and Grandpapa de Fuck dies without even being useful. (Typical). And so Laz tries very, very hard to conform, to not so much as bend a single rule, to be the perfect military man. He gets this reputation for being standoffish from the time he’s a young officer, about the age of 14, never really interacting with the other men, even changing his clothes in secret, always sleeping on his own when he has the opportunity to, and, despite the other officer’s best efforts, never going into a brothel or having an affair no matter how many bets they make among themselves. Until one day some reckless peasant boy charges into his life and Laz really, really tries to fight it because this could ruin EVERYTHING but. It’s Ronan. Ronan’s persistent. And also an oblivious toenail so it takes a little while to get it through his head that, no, Laz is still a man and Ronan’s STILL gay AF. (Sorry, Ronan, you can’t no-homo your way out of this one. Full homo. All the homo.)
A ship I have with said character: R/L is pretty much my be all, end all for Laz, though I also can and do ship O/L and R/O/L.
A BROTP I have with said character: Poor Laz in canon doesn’t really have any friends that we see, unless you count the one time he and Artois conspire. (I don’t.) Even though I tend to have his troops shipping Laz/Ronan, that’s out of selfishness as much as anything else (if he’s getting laid, he might not be so snappish.) In the Abomination (which...obviously doesn’t go with the whole “Peyrol wanting to fire on him”...thing from the Zuka version), I like the dynamic between Laz and Papa du Puget, where you have the latter really helping him out in terms of figuring out where he is in terms of his relationship with Ronan and getting his sense of individuality back. Like, it shouldn’t require a neon sign to say “Hey, maybe not having anything to do with your boyfriend except for when you have sex might be part of the reason why he’s not speaking to you right now, maybe cuddle with him?” but Laz is new to this, doesn’t exactly have a roadmap, and thinks that his relationship with Ronan can be neatly packaged into his schedule. Which...surprise, it can’t be. Since du Puget is also very much a man of the Enlightenment with a HUGE library to match it (really, we know this, because when the Bastille fell he demanded compensation for it), if anyone can help Laz get grounded again, it’s him. And, since Laz is about 24-ish in the Abomination, he’s the perfect age to be Du Puget’s son (with Olympe being about 19), which adds an extra dimension as du Puget (my very, very specific version of him modeled after the historical figure) really mirrors Laz’s father in a lot of ways, from his friendship with de Sade (who Laz *loathes*) to his military career and his habit of occasionally having affairs. (Which is pretty shitty, but not unexpected given the times.) The difference is, du Puget really does get the opportunity to do what Papa de Peyrol never could: Do his best to protect Lazare from Grandpapa de Fuck’s influence, even if the damage has already been mostly done, as well as ultimately give up his career and his post for his family. (For what it’s worth, I tend to headcanon Papa de Peyrol as a wannabe Validad who was just...flawed in his implementation of it. Like, my take on him is this guy who would always bring back his son toys and souvenirs from his campaign, tell him stories when he tucked him into bed, etc., but whose own weaknesses ultimately still led to his death and his widow being left absolutely destitute to the point where she had to make a deal with Grandpapa de Fuck. Because it’s the 18th century and life’s a bitch, especially if you’re a widow with weakened financial prospects and a young child and your father in law is convinced your kid is his second chance from God.)
A NOTP I have with said character: Generally, I’d say Artois/Laz in anything that’s not set pre-canon given that, for all it could be interesting in a fucked up way, there’s no way it’ll end up well for Laz, but I have also seen Danton/Laz and it scarred me deeply. Salieri/Laz is something I’ve also seen a bit, which I don’t *get* because any time they would have met it’d be like: *gay staring*

And then both of them rushing over to their extroverted boyfriends. If anything, I could only really see the two of them bonding over having absolutely ridiculous boyfriends (and, if it gets to postcanon for both, bonding over WHOOPS I ACCIDENTALLY KILLED MY BOYFRIEND).
A random headcanon: Oh God, pretty much everything I have on him is a headcanon. Like, even the things I take for granted on him (like Sugardaddy!Laz) are headcanons. The man is one massive, walking headcanon because no one in the writer’s room wanted to sit down and work on their contract cop-out; they were just like “fuck, let him keep Maniaque. And give him this new song. And a bit in the opening, where he demonstrates the beginning of his homoerotic tension lifelong hatred with the lead. That’s good, right?”
Laz always liked music growing up; he liked how steady the beats were, he liked the smooth texture of the harpsichord keys, he liked his mother sometimes sitting him on her knee and gently moving his fingers over the right keys, he liked the way he could channel himself into the music. Communication was hard, mired in social niceties that he didn’t always understand, things that the adults treated like they were life and death, but music was simple. Hitting the key one place produced one sound, hitting it in another produced another, every time. When his father was at home, he would sit in the drawing room and listen to the two of them play, applauding at the right moments and praising Lazare enthusiastically. This was the first time young Lazare tasted success and praise, and he basked in it. By the time his father died, when was about seven or eight, he was quite good at it in his own right.
Obviously, since this was a bright, happy period in Lazare’s life, guess what Grandpapa de Fuck did? Yep, it went out the window. A man, Grandpapa de Fuck believed, could only ever be talented at one thing, barring some few geniuses (with his grandson not being among them), and Lazare was going to be a soldier. Everything else was going to go. As with most things relating to his childhood that his grandfather robbed him of, he chose to convince himself that it had been a childish indulgence. He still felt the music, though, in the steady rhythm of soldier’s boots and the beat of the regimental drum, but he could only direct it now, never play it for himself. Once, when he was a young officer being used by enthralled with the Comte d’Artois, the latter took him to a performance of an opera, chastising him when he noticed the way Lazare’s hands moved throughout the performance. Lazare buried it even further, not even talking about it when it could be avoided, much less consuming it.
Then, Ronan comes into his life. And Ronan’s not a music critic; the most he knows are the peasant songs they played at festivals or sang as together in the winter months when things looked bleak and they had little else to do. He probably doesn’t know the difference between a harpsichord and a piano, just that they’re Rich People’s Instruments. But, despite everything else, despite the hard time he gives Peyrol for it at first, he ends up egging him into taking classes again because, Hell, it’s something besides homicide that makes Laz happy and, for all of their differences as a couple, Ronan wants him to be happy. And it’s frustrating, because he should know how to do this; for so long everything in his life has been something that he already knew and could predict and, with this, he can hear his failure. There are many times that he takes his anger out on the keys or scatters the sheet music around. But, over time, he feels himself improving, the keys start to become old friends to him, and, gradually, he starts to play again. And it’s not like it was when he was a child, there is no audience eager to praise him, but, sometimes during a late practice session, Ronan will come over from behind (with some amount of warning, since approaching the experienced army officer from behind tends to have unforeseen consequences), drowsily nuzzle into Laz’s neck, and it’s just as good. (Also, he probably reaches around to play a few notes of “Ah, Ca Ira” or “La Marseillaise” while Laz is briefly distracted because Ronan Mazurier is, first and foremost, a little shit). (Also, they totally bang on the harpsichord at one point.)
General Opinion over said character: MY SON. My useless, emotionally repressed, gay, homicidal, aristocratic son who needs to have some sense knocked in his head but is trying his best and is quite possibly the only officer in Paris who is actually doing his job. Deserves more screentime and/or cuddles from his boyfriend who is STILL ALIVE, thank you very much, if and when he gets into the position when he’ll accept them. I wish he got something resembling character development or an arc, but HE’S MINE NOW. (And, tbh, I’m a little worried that it’ll be a monkey’s paw type situation with him getting more time. Like, I’m fully prepared to sell my soul to the Toho production, but I’m also preparing myself to see a much darker take on my son than I’m used to. Including when it comes to Ronan. And that might be a bitter pill to swallow.) Even though I love all my sons equally, I prefer the opportunity for nuance that original!Laz afffords (and the amount of Done he seems to be most of the time), as the other two lean a little more towards sadistic (though sex dungeon Laz is too good for me to pass up entirely). Also, I still hold Toho!Laz as an ideal faceclaim for Grandpapa de Fuck.
Someone please save him. I would, but I’m too busy tossing him into the Seine atm.
Solene
Sexuality Headcanon: Solene’s sexuality has always been tricky for me because bisexual Solene is very near and dear to my heart (ONE OF US, ONE OF US), but I could also make an argument for lesbian Solene who separates her working life from her private life. In another universe, she very likely would have ended up with a man no matter what, I’m not sure if she’d have been entirely content, but she probably wouldn’t have questioned it so long as she was decently secure and well-cared for, like most WLW throughout history probably did. Even in canon, I could see her taking up with a man (like in the Zuka and Toho versions where she and Danton have a longer term “relationship”), because it’s a means of security + stability so long as he’s not some abusive assfuck who thinks that he owns her, but as far as actual trust and companionship are concerned? I can only really see it with women, which makes sense when you consider how closely tied Solene really is to women, especially in the French and Toho versions where she’s got “Je Veux le Monde” which is literally her belting out about how awesome women are and how men (specifically Ronan) are too blinded by their own ambition and bloodlust + the fact that we always see her surrounded by the other women, during La Nuit M’Appelle, Je Veux le Monde, and Fixe.
Gender Headcanon: She’s most likely a cis woman. Je Veux le Monde has a great emphasis on childbirth, etc. associated with that, though I could also roll with a significant portion of that being her taking power in her own terms, using the only language she knows, like she also seems to be doing in La Nuit, while still perhaps being a little unhappy with the way gender identity is dealt with in 18th century French society.
A ship I have with said character: Solene/Olympe. Like...was there any doubt?

I mean, it does help that they aren’t at each other’s throats for the early part of their relationship, unlike SOME PEOPLE.
In all honesty, given how little Solene actually gets to do, there’s really not all that much room for shipping, save with the women around her and Lucille in the Zuka version. Which is an option, definitely, given that they “become friends” BUT.
A BROTP I have with said character: Despite headcanoning Solene as one of a VERY small number of people who can genuinely scare Laz, I do like to imagine the two of them bonding over Ronan’s more ridiculous moments. Like, at first she’s pissed as HELL at him for obvious reasons, but it also becomes a matter of “What did he do this time?” “He told me that my chess set was royalist propaganda. Then he jumped out the window. I have yet to try to retrieve him” “*Sigh* Let me talk to him.” And, in the Abominationverse, with the advent of the twins, Uncle Lazare is the nearest thing they have to a responsible adult when Solene and Olympe want to have a date night and Olympe’s parents are otherwise occupied, and since the children are already strangely drawn to him, well...there are worse babysitters, especially during the period of time when Ronan is off playing Hero of the Revolution and the twins are the only thing Laz really has to keep his mind off of him.
A NOTP I have with said character: Solene/Danton as a ship somewhat creeps me out, given that (1) He still has the ability to throw her out on the street with nothing and (2) ...Historically, we know how this one’s going to work out. Danton’s married, eventually he’s going to marry a fifteen year old a couple of weeks after his wife dies, and then he gets fucking guillotined. There is no way Solene doesn’t get fucked over AGAIN in this one. (Also, I just...don’t see them as a romantic couple. He was a customer, they did the do, Ronan was SUPER pissed about it and Danton’s probably forever on his shit list for it, but still. It wasn’t a *romance* for her. It was food for the day. It was part of her rent for the month.)
A random headcanon: The pink ring that Solene wears in the “Je Veux le Monde” music video (and, seemingly, in the showcase video) belonged to her mother. When Mama Mazurier realized she wasn’t going to survive her last birth, when Solene was probably about 5-7, she pressed it deep into the girl’s hand, as if hoping that she could press the ring into her memory as well. It was the last movement she would make in this life. As time went on, the taxes mounted up as one disaster after another seemed to befall the family. They sold off whatever they could, with the ring being one of the few things that remained. (And it got to the point where their debt was so high that, really, selling the ring wouldn’t have helped in the long run, and so Papa Mazurier decided that at least Solene could have it, nearly crying for the first time in front of his children when she offered it to him once before firmly putting it back on her finger). She briefly considered selling it off when she got to Paris, to the point where she had it in the palm of her hand, ready to sell to a street vendor before she decided that it wasn’t worth it, feeling the sharp press of metal when she clasped it hard. When Ronan later told her, “When people lose their dignity, it’s the end,” he didn’t know what she’d done to avoid doing just that. Ronan, as always, saw only what she’d lost, rather than what she’d kept.
Also, since I’m just returning home from the angst wars with Laz and he got a nice, long headcanon, Papa Mazurier loved both of his children equally. Really, he did. He was a true validad, which is also why he had to die. But, looking back, Ronan always felt a little bit like he was the least favorite of the two of them, because it seemed like, generally, Solene tended to get what she wanted more. In reality, though, as Solene would later tell Ronan when he, Olympe, Lazare, and her were sitting down together, it was really just that she knew how to ask for things tactfully, including when to wait, whereas Ronan went in guns blazing. Solene learned how to play the long game, and it paid off. (Also, even though she was initially pissed off over her brother screwing their father’s murderer after abandoning her to pursue a half-baked revenge plot, she is also personally amazed at the fact that, not only did Ronan get a gig that her and most of her friends DREAMED of, a furnished apartment with a faithful, devoted, aristocratic lover who is willing to buy him anything he asks for, not the least well-tailored outfits, he did it accidentally. By continuously insulting him. In prison. If Ronan ever screws this up, Solene is going to personally kill him. And then kick Laz’s ass because Ronan is still her brother dammit.)
General Opinion over said character: Hello, continuing evidence of my bisexuality. The Superior Mazurier Sibling, AKA THE ONE WHO ACTUALLY HAS SOME COMMON SENSE. Deserved better writing, hot cocoa, and to have seen Olympe at least one time that wasn’t over her brother’s corpse. She is one of the few things I think the French cast did best with, since later productions really tried to sanitize her, though I love Zuka!Solene directly calling out Ronan in La Nuit m’Appelle. LET HER HAVE A PLOTLINE DAMMIT. Also: WHY THE FUCK DIDN’T WE GET HER SHOWCASE COSTUME? (Also, Matthieu Carnot would have rocked as her sibling, just saying.) I just...have many emotions about Solene Mazurier and what she deserves and what she got and I will never forgive the show for skimping on her storyline the entire time and then having the last thing we see of her being her crying her eyes out over the brother who abandoned her (and, okay, in other productions, they reconcile, but it doesn’t ACHIEVE anything between the two of them and it’s mainly Solene reaching out to him whereas I want him groveling). It’s a good thing she hooks up with his beard after his funeral, otherwise the angst and overall incomplete nature of her arc might be too much to bear.
