I just like the headcanon that Eugene's mother was a member of the royal family and heir to the throne while Edmund was "only" a knight and member of the brotherhood before marrying her.
It's a fine headcanon, but I don't agree with it.
Look at the crown.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
(Note that on dark-haired ghosts, the crown is light, but on light-haired ghosts, it's dark. That's for contrast, and so you can actually see it.)
Now look at Edmund's crown vs. the queen's. (I brightened the image so you could see the crowns better.)
Tumblr media
Edmund is wearing the ruling crown, the one with the purple gem embedded in it.
I mean, by all means, headcanon whatever you want, but just be aware that it's not a canon-compliant headcanon.

HOT TAKE TOURNAMENT:
PRE-PRELIMINARY #1
Tumblr media
Submission 142:
"Fallout 3 is just objectively a terrible game and people are too blinded by nostalgia/franchise loyalty to understand how deep it goes"
(Pre-preliminaries will be used to judge whether this submission qualifies as a hot take. Propaganda is encouraged!)
Submitted justification under the cut:
Every Fallout game since Bethesda took over has had a very distinct central theme. New Vegas is about the past vs the future, Fallout 4 is about personal identity/truth, and Fallout 3 is about ✨morality✨. Every choice in the game boils down to “I’m such a good person, just an innocent little vault baby who wants to help people 🥺” or “HAHAHA MURDER IS FUN I WANT TO EAT BABIES”. (And don’t get me wrong, cartoonishly evil actions can both be very fun and have always had a place in the Fallout series, but this particular installment both prides itself and is propped up by its fans as being a “dark, gritty, mature” on the Fallout setting). It’s always so annoyingly black and white, the only exceptions being when the main story forces you to be evil to progress. And it’s not in a grimdark way, the game seems to genuinely see no issue with it. The two major factions are a replica of the U.S. military that hates mutants and thinks they should be killed via eugenics, and a replica of the U.S. military that hates mutants and thinks they should be killed via genocide. Guess which one is the “good guy” faction! You literally can’t because they’re both basically the same thing and they’re both equally awful. Turns out the hero faction is the genocide one, but they saved you from some hostile mutants one time so actually they’re okay 🥺. Ignore the fact that the mutants are very provably sentient and the only actually selfless and good NPC is, himself, a mutant. It’s fine.
And brief sidebar here to mention that the main story LITERALLY ISN’T COMPLETED UNLESS YOU BUY A DLC. Like technically there’s an “ending”, but you just get to the eleventh hour and then either: a) Die or b) Have the game call you a coward and a bad person because you opted to have someone who is RESISTANT TO RADIATION step into a HEAVILY IRRADIATED AREA instead of killing yourself by doing it because… “thematic parallels” to when they fridged your dad, I guess? So then say you bought the rest of the story for enough real world money to get you like. A nice meal. Or a better game. Then what’s the new ending? Well, it seems at first to be a morally challenging decision! You’ve been sent by the Brotherhood of Steel (aforementioned genocide faction) to infiltrate the base of and then redirect a nuke to the Enclave (aforementioned eugenics faction). Yes you are their most important soldier now. The main character of this game happens to be the only Fallout protagonist with a concrete age (that being 19), but an adult’s an adult I GUESS.
You get to the terminal and prepare to direct the bombs, but you’re presented with a choice as to where to send them. You could direct them at the base you’re in right now, eliminating the Enclave (including innocent non-combatants), or you could choose to disobey your orders and send the, to Megaton, Rivet City, (two major settlements), Project Purity (your father’s life’s work, a lab meant to distribute clean water to the wasteland which has since been blockaded by the BoS because they want to turn a profit off of it), or the Citadel (the Brotherhood’s base of operations). If you choose Megaton, Rivet City, or Project Purity, the game will inform you that those were actually just false choices and you were supposed to pick something else. If you pick the Enclave base, then you get a little good ending cutscene where you’re informed that the Brotherhood is preparing for it’s next mission to go kill a bunch of mutants in the city. Yay! Fun! +100 karma points! But if you instead bomb the Citadel, then you get back and find it’s ruined remains. Grr. Bad. -100 karma. You’re evil now. And yes there was a child soldier there (technically a scribe, not a soldier, but Veronica from NV was also a scribe and she was 27 and killed people so yeah.), but in Fo4 we learn that that kid, as well as that whole branch of the Brotherhood, survived anyways! And need I remind you that there were also noncombatants in the Enclave base. So what’s the moral here? It’s good to be loyal to the racist technofacists that indoctrinated you into joining them when you were barely an adult and just lost your lifelong home? And that’s just the main story.
The karma system for companions is so dumb, really companions in general in this game are awful. But I’m going to get to karma first so that it’ll make more sense why they such so much. Karma fills a role similar to what reputation would later in the series, measuring how much people are inclined to like you based on your previous actions. Except instead of being faction based and measuring how people feel about how you’ve directly interacted with the specific groups they’re affiliated with, it just measures if you’re generally a Good Person or a Bad Person. Very nuanced. To be a good person, give water to homeless people, donate to the church, and take positive actions for the BoS. To be a bad person, steal things, kill non-combatants (oh wait), and take negative actions against the Brotherhood. So if you want to maintain a specific karma, you have to take actions that suit it. The game pushes you towards good karma at certain points in the story, and generally it’s very hard to maintain a neutral score without spilling into good or evil. Anyways, back to the companions. Your fun, unique cast of traveling partners are a series staple, so who do we have? A military robot who will only side with you if you have neutral karma. Your childhood bully who will only side with you if you have neutral karma. A retired raider who claims to be better now, but still does some really awful stuff (and who will only side with you if you have evil karma. A slave and an indentured servant who you can *buy the contracts of.* These are TWO SEPARATE CHARACTERS. They did this TWICE. Plus the slave (who is an asian woman) will constantly fawn over the player (who would have had to have evil karma to buy her) and act romantically towards them. YIKES. I could get into so much more but I’ve been at this for an hour with no music or anything, just venting/ranting. Thanks for putting up with it being so long, by the way, it was kind of cathartic. Just to close things off here: The gunplay is really clunky and unfun, the world is bleak, ugly, and blocked off by a ton of invisible walls that make it a drag to explore, almost all of the characters are a pain to sit through interactions with, and the graphics (though not a dealbreaker), aged really poorly. I’m begging you to just play New Vegas or Fallout 4 instead PLEASE. If you already have then try out the original isometric games. Or the so bad they’e kind of funny spinoffs. Or the mobile game. Or the board game. Or the tabletop roleplaying game. Heck, even 76. Just please don’t play Fallout 3 and stop acting like it’s good.

Which tts blogs are the most valid?
me and my like seven mutuals obv
kgnfgk i follow…19 people… so. rip.
assuming blog recs are what you’re after here i’d honestly suggest just deciding which corner(s) of the fandom interest you and then take a wander through the relevant tags, bc while there’s plenty of overlap the tts fandom as a whole is kind of an amalgamation of discrete subfandoms defined by what those fans watched the show for, loosely:
- new dreamers
- varian people (affectionate)
- v7k / varigo people
- cassunzels/ot3ers
- brotherhood stans
- zhan tiri apologists (me and murphy and daylight and pancat and lemon lmao)
so u know. pick your poison. there’s a lot of good fan blogs out there making art/fics or doing good thoughtful meta it’s rly just a question of what… drew u to the show. the new dream and varian corners both have enough people to have some hatedom-y niches avoid those obv and try not to get sucked into the vortex of cass-vs-varian / cass-vs-eugene infighting. if you are a cass fan who doesn’t like cassunzel i am so sorry thats why i only follow 19 people

Choosing Labor Day: P.J. McGuire vs. Eugene Debs
Choosing Labor Day: P.J. McGuire vs. Eugene Debs
             P. J. McGuire and Labor Day Peter J. McGuire, the general secretary of the Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners and cofounder of the American Federation of Labor, was the first person to suggest that special day to honor those “who from rude nature have delved and carved all the grandeur we behold.” He recommended that this special national day be sometime between Independence Day…

I’m seeing all these posts about how the Brotherhood has a strong bond when they were younger, but know what makes my heart really swell? The fact that even though they had their disagreements and were separated for 25 years, by the end of the series, they rekindled that strong bond again.
Oh gosh anon, that gets me too.
The thing I find most interesting/appealing abt the Brotherhood's relationships is just how much they change, and the breadth of experiences they've had with each other; they've been friends, allies, enemies, and more. And then after everything, in the end they return to their old home to rebuild it together.
I’m just a big softie for flawed people and complicated relationships, forgiveness, and redemption. orz

I’ve actually had these points mapped out for a while, just haven’t bothered to write them all up until now. But I’m seeing the discussion float around a bit, so I’m throwing it out there.
It boils down to this: I think people get Cap’s motives for not putting Cass in the Royal Guard all wrong. I think Cap is less interested in having guards who are capable at catching bad guys, and more interested in having guards who just want to help people. I’ll just point out the things that led me to this conclusion.
Firstly, I’m just going to knock out the idea that the Royal Guard is sexist. You could argue that the show’s creators fell into some unfortunate implications, but there is nothing to suggest in universe, that the Royal Guard or the Captain are against women fighting, or leading. There’s lots of evidence to the contrary actually. Likely the reason we don’t see any women in the Guard is just because in the real world male is the default, and if a woman does anything that is traditionally male-dominated, we need some sort of explanation (even Adira has to have a line excusing why one of the Brotherhood is a woman - which is pretty funny). Now if sexism is the in-narrative problem, it’s never addressed, nor is it solved, which makes it a bad problem.
So, next let’s rule out the theory that Cap is just an overprotective dad. That one just doesn’t add up to me. In ‘Cassnadra vs. Eugene’ we see him worried for her, but that’s entirely understandable. That’s the only time we see him worried, and the problem is solved by the end. If the story wanted to hammer in the ‘overprotective dad’ idea, this would be the episode to do it, but it doesn’t take that chance. There’s no set up of a conflict between Cass and her dad that is about being over protective.
He seems reluctant to give Cass guard duty during the Science Expo, in ‘Great Expotations’, but there’s no reason to suspect it will be an especially dangerous assignment. His only condition is that she finish her lady-in-waiting duties. At the end of the episode, she puts herself in danger to help a friend, but Cap doesn’t express worry or relief that she’s alright afterwards. Instead he offers her another assignment right away, and tells her he’s proud when she decides to put her friends first. After this he starts giving her more assignments.
He’s so confident in her abilities that, after being severely injured in Varian’s attack on Corona, he doesn’t hesitate to put Cassandra in charge of the pursuit and battle. Cassandra did prove something to her dad in ‘Great Expotations’, but it wasn’t her ability to be a good guard (because let’s face it, she kind of messed up that assignment).
I was on the ‘Cap is not putting her on the guard to protect her from her past’ train for a while. As in he doesn’t want Fred finding out she’s Gothel’s daughter, and all the drama it might cause if she was in the Guard. But the whole ‘you didn’t tell me Gothel was my mother’ thing doesn’t really go anywhere. It’s still a good theory, I just haven’t found enough in the series to really work into a good argument for it. Cap seems to be on good terms with Fred in Season 1, and he knows Gothel is dead, and the Lost Princess is come home. There’s really no reason he shouldn’t let her join, if that was all he was worried about. But who knows? Maybe he was still a bit leery.
Ultimately, the Captain has no doubts over Cassandra’s ability, but it’s her motivations that make him iffy. She tells him she wants the job because she wants to be like him, she wants to make him proud, and prove that she’s capable – never does she say something like ‘I want to help people’. She does mention serving her kingdom, but she clearly doesn’t have a lot of interest in protecting Corona if she felt no qualms about joining Ingvarr instead - she isn’t interested in going where people need her most, just in getting what she wants. That’s not a bad thing in itself, but it’s not a good reason to pursue a job that is about serving others. Ambition alone is not a good enough reason to join the Royal Guard, and Cap knows it. It’s like that classic fairy tale trope: the best person to wield power is the one who wants it the least.
When it comes to guards, Cap values self-sacrifice and selflessness over skill. His top two guards, Stan and Pete are not the best at catching criminals (okay, none of the human guards are good at catching criminals), but that’s because he values their other qualities – they’re kind, helpful guys, who would go out of their way to help people. There’s plenty of times where Cap is shown valuing people over duty. He gives Attila a second chance to prove his innocence. He expresses pride in Cassandra setting aside guard work in order to help friends. In ‘The Quest for Varian’ he seems regretful that his obedience to the king has pitted him against people he cares about, especially Cassandra. He tries to fix his parenting mistakes by showering the fake Little Cassandra with attention (something he clearly feels regret in not doing enough). And he nominates Eugene as Captain, because he knows Eugene exhibits those qualities he values. Eugene doesn’t want power or glory. He may not have experience, but he is very dedicated to protecting and helping the people around him, even if they sometimes get on his nerves. Cap even says as much when he gives him the job. It’s a nice nod to how much Eugene has grown as a character. I would still argue that this could’ve been handled better, because while the audience sees this change in Eugene, the Captain doesn’t really get the chance to acknowledge it before he gives him the job, but that’s a separate nitpick.
Point being: the Captain thinks selflessness, and self-sacrifice is the most important skill a Royal Guard can have. It’s more important then being a good investigator, or being able to obey orders, or being a good fighter, and it’s certainly more important than ambition. That’s what he’s waiting for Cassandra to demonstrate before he will allow her into the Guard. And the fact that she is his daughter does probably play into this. He knows her too well, and he knows she hasn’t learned this lesson (and if ‘Islands Apart’ is anything to go by, he feels like this is a failing on his part, not hers). That might be why he encouraged her to be a lady-in-waiting. Having connections to nobility could be very helpful to someone who’s as ambitious as Cass, especially if he felt the Guard thing wasn’t gonna work out. In the end, Cassandra learns the hard way that wanting power for power’s sake is a messy business. She doesn’t gain the skills her dad felt were necessary for a guard, but she never really needed too. She learned over the course of Season 2 that a life of service to the kingdom wasn’t what she wanted after all.
It would’ve been nice to have it tied up in a nice little bow by having her dad somehow involved with that conclusion, but at least the stings are all there. They’re messy strings – I’m not saying it’s the most well-executed character arc in the show, but it’s there. It’s the only explanation I’ve found so far that makes sense story-wise.

For What Summer Meant to You!! 3, 11, and 13!!
How did you find the visuals for this fic? Is there a method you have?
Lmao can my answer be consuming other media? I think I've talked enough about my obsession with Scott Pilgrim vs the World and how it was a direct inspiration for this fic, but one other band movie that I vibed a lot with is Teen Spirit. It's got Elle Fanning in it and a super cool blacklight/neon performance scene that I 100% snatched for the final Fiend's performance.
I also go to concerts a lot with my partner irl, and I tried to channel my experiences through Varian's eyes. Like, the Duckling with its shitty basement stage, the weed-soaked walls...yep I've been there.
Was there a scene that you hadn't originally planned to include? Why did you decide to fit it in?
Anything with the boy and Ruddiger!! Ruddiger was such a late addition I originally didn't have him in the fic at all. Then I thought of maybe doing a one off scene of Varian trying to hide Rudds under his bed in Edmund's house. Eugene catches him like is that trash panda under your bed again but it never fit in anywhere. Then I realized Rudds at Crowley's made so much more sense even though Varian still totally tries to sneak him into Edmund's house once Ruddiger is trained
Was there a scene you wished you could have included? Why didn't it fit in?
(I'm assuming you meant 12 and not 13 bc 13 you need a line of dialogue, lol)
I wish I could have included Hector and Adira more!! The Brotherhood has my whole heart and they support their tiny nerd nephew in every universe. I actually built up to it too--Eugene basically tackles/noogies Varian whenever he's excited, I was going to have Hector show up and tackle/noogie Eugene to show that's where he learned it from. And in my head Hector was the one to pull Varian out of the car after Ulla crashed it OOP
Another scene is the Varigo jam session that never happened after the epilogue. Both boys sitting on Hugo's couch during a sunny Sunday afternoon,,,playing guitar,,,smoochin lips. If someone else wants to write it I wouldn't say no 👀
I'm so happy this fic is still on people's minds after it finished. Thanks for the ask!!

headcanon dump; varian
In canon verses, Varian never takes any training, therefore all the things he learns is through doing, and reading himself. In Modern verses, when Varian is tasked with Homework, it is generally done when he gets home. He does it first, so he can spend more time on doing the things he loves and researching things he likes over things he has too do.
Doing his homework is a tiring task asked of him, he actually hates it which is also why he would do it first, to get the things he doesn’t like out of the way to leave room for the things he does enjoy.
you know that mocking thing people do when someone they don’t like is talking, when their back is turned? yeah, varian does that when king fredrick talks, quirin has caught this and chide him, but varian has caught him giving the biggest eye rolls ever when the king isn’t looking
Sleep? Him and sleep didn’t get on for a good four to seven years from the moment he saw his father encased in the amber. There were constant nightmares, and he would force himself to stay awake. Other times, he just wouldn’t sleep because he was too focused on his works and couldn’t stop, because he had to finish it. He has been forced to go to sleep by those around him.
despite varian feeling hurt, or like there was some wrong sense of justice when concerning cass’ punishment compared to his, he doesn’t HATE cass or rapunzel. he can’t bring himself to hate them, because at different times they both have helped him. he just needs to work through his feelings, and talk about how the events make him feel instead of bottling it up like last time
varian, concerning his feelings about the whole cass seemingly getting away with her crimes deal, as well as specifically with cass the whole kidnapping ( and others ) thing. he will talk about those feelings first with any of these ; quirin, lance or eugene, before talking about it with rapunzel and cass, just so he doesn’t make them feel bad for his feelings bc yes he still loves and cares for them, they’re like his family even if they’ve had rough patches, he doesn’t want them to feel bad for what he is feeling, even if what he’s feeling is valid.
varian is a quick learner, when it comes to skills. and he can actually pick things up quickly, especially if he enjoys the task / activity
varian masters his potion to enlarge ruddiger to make it more safe for ruddiger
varian also learns about the things fredrick does and redirects his blame ( bc that doesn’t just go away, even if he felt guilty for what he did - he still has the right to feel HURT by rapunzels actions in the show ). but, upon learning that the king is the reason for the rocks in the first place, how the king made his father feel like he won’t listen to reason so therefore making his father lie to try and fix what he could - varian realises the problem is with the king and the system the king has put in place. and because of this, he won’t listen to orders from the king at all even as the ‘royal engineer’, NOR will he listen to nigel.
quirin’s wife, and varian’s mother actually left them when varian turned five / when the blue streak in his hair developed. quirin was open about what had happened in the dark kingdom, and that he feared the streak was something like the lost princess’ hair, his wife couldn’t take it - so left them, under the rouse of ‘going to get some food’ from the town.
varian can lie quite well, he just can’t if he’s put right on the spot or even feels slightly confronted with one of his lies. he does manage to trick rapunzel, all while lying because he doesn’t beleive that raps ‘did what she had too’ at that point in time ( later will truly believe it )
i feel like, it wasn’t just the ‘three interactions’ before varian turned, it was small interactions that garnered a friendship. it was small, ‘hi’s and hello’s’ and a few bigger talks, especially after raps & cass find out about varian knowing about the rocks. it wasn’t a huge friendship in the eye of let’s say the fandom or even maybe cass or raps eyes, but varian it was different, he saw their friendship as a lot because they were the only ones to be his friends ( which aids in varian’s hero worship crush on cass ).
his friendship with eugene and lance doesn’t grow or strengthen until the third season, bc eugene is shown to be sceptical of varian in the first season which is valid because varian’s inventions have been not so safe.
i’ll expand a little on why i said eugene would be someone varian going to about his feelings regarding rapunzel and cass, despite him being close with the two. from this post here
and it is to do with his trust. eugene didn’t have to speak to varian alone about his worries about quirin potentially being a cass minion ( that’s what i’m calling it now ), eugene could have called it out in front of everyone, could have said something while everyone was around, but instead he waited for when he and varian were alone and that made varian feel like, even though he was kind of mad at eugene for it ( bc who wouldn’t ) but he takes it into consideration, because it made him feel like on some level eugene cared about his feelings enough to do it one on one.
and i feel like, over the course of season 3, they developed a friendship which he doesn’t have much of, and he holds it in high regards.
reminder that varian does hold a bitterness towards rapunzel and cass after the events that transpired in the last ep but unlike in season one, he’s grown and is learning to speak about how he feels about it. so he could be a little guarded around these two, and even the king and queen themselves.
he might confinde in his father, eugene, lance, angry or cat first about these feelings because he knows what bottling it up and trying to sort it out himself is like… it doesn’t work out well for him
varian isn’t afraid of heights, not even after cass encased him in a cage at well over 70ft in the air, and then falling from that height. heights do not scare him. but thin ledges? yeah, fuck those, he won’t do that.
varian has a scar on the back of his head from when he injured it in what the hair
while varian is does everything he can to prove his worth again, to prove he is trust worthy once again to rapunzel, it’s not just that way. much like she doesn’t automatically forgive him, he doesn’t automatically forgive her. it’s a two way street, their whole relationship after the opening of season 3 is the both of them rebuilding their trust and faith in each other
varian hold just a bit of bitterness towards cass / raps? yes, but he has controlled it and doesn’t let it fester. he’s learnt to control it because what it happened last time, he doesn’t want to let himself get that far.
this steams from rapunzel’s actions towards cass vs her actions towards him. he see’s that, from his point of view as different. that cass was forgiven much easier then he was, she didn’t have to do anything to gain the trust back of rapuzel, whereas he felt that he had too ( because in his eyes, when he ‘switched sides back to her’ that was when she forgave him because he had no signs of her doing so before hand ).
also does he feel guilty for feeling like this? you bet
while wearing gloves is a way to mimic his father, and to ‘be more like’ his father, it’s also a sensory sensitivity for varian. he has multiple pairs of gloves because a lot of the time they can burn up or get badly damaged. all his gloves are leather, any other material itches or just doesn’t feel right on his hands and at times, if wearing other material can get him frustrated with them, and then substantially at his work.
while varian does get back on everyone’s good side again, he still hates the king, because he heard the promise of trying to free his ( varian’s ) father, but when he broke out - he automatically went back to his own home, only to find it dusted over - like no one has been there in months - meaning no one has tried to free his father.
varian copies those he looks up too. a few examples are; constantly wearing gloves, his father does that ( we the viewer know it’s to cover his brotherhood mark ), and then, varian does too, to be more like his dad.
he has copied nicknames for people from eugene. example, eugene has called xavier ‘xaves’ and then later on, varian is seen saying that too
varian constantly wears gloves to be like his father, he noticed at a young age, that his father constantly wore gloves - and, so he too then wore gloves all the time.
varian’s ‘crush’ on cass, was more hero worship type crush, then a true crush.
varian get’s one last growth spurt before he turns eighteen, it wasn’t magic or alchemy, though he totally got accused of it, but it seemingly happened over night ( it happened over a period of time where he secluded himself as he worked on something ). he ends up between the height of rapunzel and eugene
Varian eventually learns that magic and science go hand in hand, that magic is itself a form of science itself, and that science is a form of magic. That it’s just a matter if perspective

Half-baked TTS au time!
So first of all if any of my info is incorrect it's because I haven't actually finished the series. I just finished season 2 today, so...yeah.
I was just thinking about how Quirin and Edmund clearly knew each other well enough for Quirin to want to stay behind with Edmund, which brought up this question: Why didn't Quirin recognize Eugene? Of course, the simple answer is people don't often look the same as infants vs adults. But then came question two: If Quirin and Eugene ended up in Corona, why not just leave Eugene with Quirin in the first place? And that's what inspired this au.
Ok so we know that Quirin was one of the last to leave the Dark Kingdom and that baby Eugene was on one of the carriage thingies (forgot what they're called) blah blah backstory. So what if instead of whatever actually happened to baby Eugene (I'm just assuming he went directly to Corona) once they got away from the Dark Kingdom, Quirin went with whoever was taking care of baby Eugene and kind of helped raise him I guess? Like I said half-baked. Anyway so everything else happens as normal, Quirin has a kid of his own (Varian), but he's also still raising Eugene who is, like, eleven at this point. So Eugene ends up being Varian's older brother! (Instead of an orphan) Of course it would mess up some stuff, like how do Eugene and Rapunzel meet, stuff like that.
Unless!!! Unless the Brotherhood does find the sun drop! But only after Rapunzel is already born, but they find out about her before Gothel does, and they protect her! And then all three of them are raised alongside each other as a kind of Brotherhood 2.0, possibly tying some Moon!Varian in there as well, and then you have a lovely childhood friends-to-lovers for New Dream!
Of course with Gothel out of the picture, I don't know what would happen to Cass, but I can figure it out.
Anyway so yeah, it's very half-baked and doesn't make a lot of sense, but I thought it would be pretty cool.
Edit: As it turns out, Eugene would’ve been about 10 when Varian was born. I think. I looked up their ages on the Wiki recently, so...yeah

do you think the brotherhood trio have any significant parallels to the disciples or do you think i'm just getting too hung up on the trios thing
not as textually strong as the disciples = evil mirror of protag trio parallel but i think an argument could be made for hector-sugracha, adira-tromus, and quirin-gothel
hector & sugracha: the chaotic eccentric of the group, and the one who is like extremely, weirdly devoted to the cause. both ruthless. both unhinged. both associated pretty strongly with an evil tree. also something something mind control as sugracha’s weapon of choice vs hector’s extreme devotion leading to him being stripped of his own free will twice - yeah i think there’s definitely seeds of something that could be worked up to them being foils to each other in a story where they were both more developed. *kicks blooms and sings under the bed* anyways
adira & tromus: quirky, knowledgeable, cryptic eccentrics with a hidden and perhaps sinister agenda; she wants to sacrifice rapunzel for the good of the world and tromus wants to trap rapunzel in a lotus dream for the good of… well just zhan tiri, really. they’re both socially confident without being socially deft; they’re too weird to not put people off a bit but they also both own that weirdness with ease. oh and the blasé attitude towards weird cursed shit is a shared trait. again, ripe for development as foils here.
quirin & gothel: direct clear parallels to be made between gothel cloistering rapunzel from the world and inculcating her with fear, and quirin driving varian away from his passions due to his own fear of the black rocks. the contrast lies in quirin’s fear being genuine and motivated by real concern for varian’s safety, of course, but the outcome is similar for their children. also obv gothel is connected to the sundrop and quirin has a long past with the moonstone, but she dies and he is trapped in amber and thus both are taken out of commission for lore dispensing purposes. i am amused by the quirin as cassandra’s father theory solely because the parallels between him and gothel make it funny
was this intentional probably not 3 is just a nice stable number for a group of characters; easy to manage, storytelling-wise. but also like yeah i think there’s enough to make an argument and definitely enough to play with in fanworks
bonus round the core cast of bitter snow all get a scion parallel or two and that breaks down like this:
rapunzel -> sugracha
eugene -> tromus
cassandra -> sorchā + gothel
moira -> hyacinthe + amaranta
varian -> idris
lance -> źatīr
adira -> tanith
sirin -> dione

✨ RTA Season 2 had the best overall storyline in the show!
Short answer: I do agree!
Not-so-short answer: I liked and disliked different things about each season, regarding the storyline, plot relevance, character development, etc, but overall I’d say the second season was the best.
Season 1, for example, gave us a feel for what the show would be like  while gradually revealing the plot, and I think it was the most relevant season to the movie, theme wise. However, I wasn't really sure about even the characters that I now love, because they had a long way to go. The characters from the movie were still at the beginning of their development and did things that I (personally) would consider foolishly impulsive or imprudent; while the new characters weren't defined enough to indicate whether I would like them or not.
In Season 3, some characters were shaped to be wiser and stronger than ever before (pun intended), like Rapunzel, Eugene, Lance and Varian. Cassandra and the Brotherhood, however, fell flat and cheapened out (in my opinion). Because of Cassandra's untimely fall, the plot unfortunately fell with it, because in the end everything was bent towards her role in the story, which was not handled very well to be honest. In the end, I had mixed feelings about the show in general, which varies from person to person depending on their expectations.
Season 2 was a nice balance of the known vs. the unknown. Rapunzel had passed the "insecure and trapped at home" stage, but was far from the "prudent queen" stage. It was the season in which she gradually picked up that ability to make her own decisions, while making misjudgments and errors in the meantime. Eugene had definitely cleared up a lot of his "formerly Flynn" tendencies that were especially copious in the first Season (understandably, because development is gradual), such as his ego and his impulsive recklessness - but he still wasn't really sure who he was supposed to be or whether or not he was good enough. Cassandra had come to the realization that she wanted more than what she had, but her emotional expanse and jealousy were to come (before we knew about her unfortunately poor villain arc). I'd say the same about Lance as I do with Eugene, but to less of an extent. We had reached a major point with Varian, but were left hanging on his future. In this time we still had to meet Zhan Tiri, the Brotherhood and Lord Demanitus with their roles.
Overall, I would say Season 2 was the best in regard to these things. It was certainly the most unpredictable and intriguing season, because it came after Season 1's indication that there would be major things coming up, but before Season 3 defined what they were. Thanks for the ask!

What is something you wished you could've seen in the series before it ended? Personally I wish we could've gotten more backstory about the Brotherhood & the dark kingdom, especially before it was deserted. I also wish we could've gotten more insight into the Demanetus vs Zhan Tiri conflict. Like could they have been lovers but Zhan Tiri turned greedy and evil? I also wanted to know more about the disciples and them betraying Demanetus, which most likely happened much later.
yes! dark kingdom and brotherhood lore. i’d also like to know more how gothel got involved with the disciples. but the thing i wanted more development in regards to eugene’s relationship with his father and moreso, learning about his mother. i wish so badly we would’ve gotten a scene where edmund told eugene about her.
also pipe dream but i wanted new dream babies but i knew that wasn’t going to happen. and just more new dream in general. i know a lot of people wanted less romance but....nah. i want ALL romance. XD
your icon is so cute, btw!!! <3

Race to the Spire thoughts
Seems like Calliope  has been keeping up on her lessons.
Shapeshifting cloak? Hey, that’s for that other episode “Once a Handmaiden”
I don’t think that’s the Keeper anymore. Oh. Hi Cass.
Aw, baby Kurlock is so cute when its trying to be fierce.
Cass is still trying not to hurt anyone, though where is the Keeper?
Bwhahaha, she said it!
Do you really have to ask where its going?
Meanwhile in the Snuggly Duckling…They are having a good time. And they are ready to rumble.
Yes, you are very lucky Eugene. I think Rapunzel is still feeling the sting from Varian.
PubThugs are trying to be helpful.
Varian upgraded the balloon, this will be interesting. Work vs explode?
Nice prank.
Nice strong box. Controlling a handful of super soldiers is always handy. Don’t let your prejudices about Adira and Hector get so in the way Cass.
Wintery expanse huh, oh we are doing that here now.
Oh look another deadly place to go though.
Let’s get sewing.
That was kinda howly hello
Is it Calliope or…
Tumblr media
And I will guess these are the other Vodnicks.
Twirl Attack! A princess definitely needs a twirl attack in her repertoire
And she goes back to save the Arctic Vodnicks. Yeah she’s going to try saving Cass.
Who I am guessing is right in front of you.
Yeah, caution is well advised.
Ooo, BooBerry under the cloak! Good form. Nice misdirection.
Um Raps, don’t give it all away.
Tumblr media
Compassion is not a weakness. But BooBerry has some of the best expressions.
Um, She said it completely differently.
Eugene, I like your enthusiasm!
Tumblr media
Badgers, badgers. We don’t need no stinking badgers!
Hi, Thing haven’t seen you since the Addams’ Family.
The Lamp! 10,000 years!
Tumblr media
An introduction? Oh BooBerry you are so very over-confident.
An eclipse, huh, we have a time bomb.
And something else.
Poor Brotherhood, I wonder if Cass will have Adira dance for her.
