I just finished updating my review for The Last of August by Brittany Cavallaro. It definitely liked the first book better, but we did get to know more about Charlotte's family. My overall conclusion is that everyone needs therapy. All my other thoughts are in my review. I was originally going to wait to start the sequel, but my curiosity got the best of me, so here I am, starting The Case for Jamie. I'm hoping this one will be better than the second book. I'll defer discussing it here to avoid spoilers, but I'm hoping to finish it this upcoming week. I don't have a lot of purple bookmarks, but I found this cute one from my collection. I bought five more books today even though I already have 8 on my shelf waiting to be read. I’m not mad about it, though. All of these have been so highly recommended amongst the booktubers I watch so I went ahead and picked them up! — I picked up Orange - The Complete Collection 1 by Ichigo Takano. I don’t usually read manga but I saw so many amazing reviews on this & the story, I just had to get it. — A Study in Charlotte by Brittany Cavallaro is a story about descendants of the great Sherlock Holmes and John Watson. I am so excited to read this. — I picked up And I Darken by Kiersten White, The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern, and A Darker Shade of Magic by V.E. Schwab. From the cover and description, it seemed like it might be a YA version of #thelmaandlouise but this was way different because they were only teenagers running from the abusive adults in their lives only to keep falling into other dangerous situations on their road trip from Michigan to Las Vegas. It was hard to read because you just wanted things to work out for them. You wanted them to have that happy ending and considering the way Thelma and Louise ended, this one seemed it could head that way too. I won’t spoil it, but it was worth the read. Esse sumiço de Leander e a procura de Charlotte é tudo mundo confuso. São várias teorias ao mesmo tempo, várias informações dadas de uma vez, vários personagens dando informações de uma vez... Resumindo: muita coisa acontecendo, tudo muito rápido e sendo pouco explicada. ⠀ 🔎Outro ponto que me desagradou foram os ditos vilões. Como eu estava discutindo o livro com outra pessoa que leu, não entra muito na minha cabeça dois adultos colocaram toda sua vida em função de uma vingança contra com uma adolescente de 17 anos. Simplesmente não convence. ⠀ 🔎August é uma pessoa importante do passado de Charlotte que dá as caras nesse livro, mas eu não consegui me conectar com ele de forma alguma. Deu pra ver que ele não quer ser mais associado a essa sede de vingança, mas também se ressente por não poder viver uma vida completa. ⠀ 🔎Quando a James, gostei do fato dele bater o pé em certas situações e não se deixar levar somente por Charlotte. Gostei dele tomar as rédeas em momentos da procura pro Leander. Entretanto, ao mesmo tempo, eu me senti querendo dar duas biscas nele para ver se acorda e para de querer forçar uma relação além de amizade com Charlotte. ⠀ 🔎Neste livro contamos com alguns capítulos narrados por Charlotte, que corroboraram o que eu já suspeitava. Ela sim se importa com James, mas sua forma de demonstrar é completamente errada. Creio que isso se deve ao fato de como foi criada, por uma pais super negligentes em relação à garota. ⠀ 🔎Felizmente a escrita da Brittany é bem fluída, o que, combinado com a situação de Leander, deixa a história num ritmo bem constante. Apesar da confusão do plot, assim como James, você se vê absorvido por Charlotte e a busca pelo seu tio desaparecido.
