GUESS WHAT CAME TODAYYYYY!!!
Ugh I'm absolutely in love with this (and the album art book!!). I originally wanted to try and get a blue viynl, but I got impatient with HMV literally never restocking and Amazon selling out before I even know they're back on sale.
Did I maybe pay a little bit too much and indulge myself? Yes. But is it now among one of my favourite vinyl?? Definitely! Vessel's voice works so well on vinyl as well.

the more I listen to this album, the more impressed I get by the concept of writing an entire record about an intense romance when everyone was expecting a devastating narrative of the breakup that preceded it, except in reality, you pepper enough hints to paint a thorough, unforgiving picture of the mental state that made you believe that rebound was worth it in the first place. she tells us she would spend forever pining for him if they didn’t try to be together, that they would kill themselves if the other person ever left, but she refutes those claims herself a few songs later. she makes it clear that she’s too broken to be trusted, and then she gets mad at you for not trusting her. underneath it all, the story of what broke her in the first place simmers, and you’re ultimately left with sixteen songs about the rashest decisions she’s ever made. figuring out what got her there is up to you. it’s all in the text. she hates being analyzed, but she wants you to analyze her. she talks about being manipulated like a doll, and she does the same to you.

Within Temptation is not my favorite symphonic metal band, but The Unforgiving is by far my favorite album in this genre. It's the only symphonic metal album I listen to regularly since its release (more than a decade ago!).
I just love everything about it. I love its concept. I love the art cover because it seems so ominous with the color scheme in dark tones of red and green and the many characters in the cover. It tells us that it's not just an album, it's a musical journey in a corrupted world full of complex people and dilemmas.
And musically it's just amazing. I love how every single track in this album explodes in your ears and has an epic tone. But it's not your "typical epic symphonic metal" tone, it is truly epic in every sense. It's an odyssey. The songs are all well crafted soundtracks for a story.

Inertia, or as I like to call it, “my life is falling to pieces 🤗”

“To hold me like water, Or Christ hold me like a knife,
We’re born at night, So much of our lives is just cutting through the dark,
To get so far, And the hardest part,
Is who we are, it’s who we are”
So what you mean to tell me is that Hozier has never watched The CW’s Supernatural and did therefore not write this about two mentally disturbed brothers and their gay angel? And you’re so serious about that?? This is, in fact, not an anthem? The ballad of the Winchesters?
Are your sure about that?
