Hello community!
We've asked to our spotlighted artist Yuan He to provide an exclusive picture for Brickcentral along with some insights on how he made it, and here's what he have to say:
"I’m an interior designer, therefore most of my MOC projects are setting up in interior spaces or architectural scenes. I haven’t done too many projects in natural environment, which sometimes I found it very challenging and interesting. In this shot, I wanted to create a scene of bunch of friends gathering together in a forest, sort of like a camping trip, and in this case, it’s the characters from Winnie the pooh. In this project, in order to hide the boundary of the scene and creating a more realistic environment, I designed some rocky structure on the back, along with some trees and bushes. There is an awning at the center, and the friends of Winnie are playing music, telling stories and dancing, surrounding a fire pit, enjoying themselves and having fun. I planned the scene to be set in night time, in that way I can create contrast of cold and warm lighting colors in this shot, and the viewer can easily focus on the characters, to experience their joy.
Tumblr media
Despite the scene looks complicated, it’s actually a relatively simple scene, just lots of random items and repeatable steps, and takes time to build. I spent almost two weeks on it, most of the time are just placing flowers, grasses and trees.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
As I mentioned this is a night time scene, I needed to set up some camping lighting to light up the awning area. I’m using micro-LED lights inside of the translucent bricks, but they are not that bright, just for decorative purpose. Another light source is in the fire pit, again it’s not bright, but sometimes it would be helpful to add more details at the scene.
Tumblr media
After posting all the minifigures, and it’s time for the big boys to actually light up the whole scene. As you can see in this photo, I have 4 blue lighting fixtures to create the night time atmosphere. The two tubes on the back are for slightly lighting up the blue backdrop paper, to separate the trees and also mimicking the night sky, will get into that later. Besides of those, the front left light is serving the purpose of creating the general blue-sky light at night, which can be reflected on the front elements like trees, grasses etc. There is only one warm lights in front of the scene, since those decorative micro-LED lights are too weak, this small cube light is the key to light up the awning and minifigures, and generating a growing spot at the center. The small LED tube at the front right acts as a fill light, specifically for brightening minifigures, restores more details on the dark side.
Tumblr media
If we are shooting indoor, there are few tricks to create more realistic background for the photos. I used to have my computer monitor as a background to simulate the sky, distanced buildings etc. But sometimes it can be tricky, I might need to adjust lighting and monitor brightness levels to accommodate each other, or my scene is just too big to move. In this project, since the trees needed to be blended in with the “sky”, I’m using a blue paper as a backdrop to creates more depth on the scene and making it look bigger, it works great for night scene, but different scenarios like broad daylight might be too bland for just using a paper.
Tumblr media
Hope you enjoy this project and found it useful for creating your LEGO photos. I’ve learned a lot from other amazing photographers and creators all these years, I found it very interesting and inspiring to watch how others create their amazing photos. And like I said earlier, for LEGO photographers, camera gears are not that important, what matters is how your story want to be told."
Thanks for all the insights Yuan He! If you want to read this artist profile, head to our blog at https://brickentral.net/ - @theaphol, Community Outreach Manager

Play time is much better together with a friend. There was so much space in the kings garden to run around. Their dad had made them their own castle guards uniforms. It was if they were already members of the brave knights guard that followed their dad wherever he went.
Another entry into the @brickcentral monthly them for February.
I’d been playing around with this castle garden MOC for a little bit it time and finally got a story from it. Two siblings enjoying some playtime together! I think I has few more stories to tell as well!
Tumblr media
I shot the scene in front of a monitor with a sky picture on. I wanted to go for a sunset vibe and the lighting comes from two LEDs with a yellow/orange filters in front.

LEGO Lunar New Year display sets 2023, provided by The LEGO Group through @brickcentral.
The snow at the end of last year was perfectly timed to give a pretty backdrop for the display. Lunar New Year has always been a huge deal in my family, where we would have 30+ family members all piled into my grandmother’s house and consume enormous amounts of food.

Why not go on an adventure with the members of your team?
Get to know each other, learn to appreciate each others strengths and weaknesses and create a more positive working environment.
Kayaking as a team brings a healthy dose of coordination and cooperation to classic outdoor fun. It is one of the best ways to build memories and bonds that will truly last a lifetime.
Fingers crossed for Batman, Joker .... and Mike (*)....hope it works out for them...

Best minifigure for starting LEGO toy photography
Thanks to everyone for watching my third livestream on Tumblr!
To open, I answered a bunch of common questions like how I became a LEGO ambassador, if I get free sets, and how to shoot in public.
Then I showed the new LEGO Collectible Minifigure Series 24 with special attention to which minifigs are good for people starting out with LEGO photography:
Brown Astronaut with Spacebaby, Dinosaur Suit Fan, and Conservationist.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I think these are the easiest to tell stories with in a natural environment, which is how most people get started.
Disclaimer: LEGO sent me this set via @brickcentral to shoot.
And lastly, I showed just a small part of my LEGO minifig collection and pointed out other popular "starter" characters over the years like the Hiker from CMF Series 16.
Tumblr media
Man, this minifig went hiking everywhere!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
You can buy the Hiker on LEGO's marketplace, Bricklink, for somewhere between $8.50 and $30 in the US.
Or you can roll your own hiker like collin_bricks's custom minifig. This was a standout in a phone photography challenge I co-hosted last year:
Tumblr media
See you again tomorrow! I'll start featuring members of the LEGO photography community on Tumblr Live so they can share their tips and insights.
Tomorrow's guest: @imaminiartaur

Hi everyone, my name is studbricks and I'm a big LEGO fan! My first LEGO set was 6008 Royal King and since then my love for LEGO has not stopped!
Although I am pictured with a camera, my knowledge of photography is not great, despite the fact that there are many quality resources to learn from, especially from members of the LEGO community (@brickcentral). I'm currently busy with a new job, but that's no excuse not to learn how to improve my photos! Don't be like me, the hardest part is getting started, but the effort will pay off!
I enjoy discussing the news from the LEGO world with the community members and I consider those moments very precious. I am grateful for the many friendships that started that way!

🤩 ARTIST SPOTLIGHT: @lady-brick Hello everyone! It's time to direct the spotlight toward our community members, and today we will get to know better @lady-brick!
Tumblr media
"Hi everyone! My name is Julia, known as Lady Brick on Instagram and I’m from Spain.
Tumblr media
My adventure with toy photography started in 2011 when a small Wall·E arrived at home. The toys are good for practicing photography techniques, and help me to relax my mind and are a way to escape from my daily routine.
Tumblr media
The minifigures, sets, and accessories are a source of inspiration and also an addiction. So, for this reason, now I only shoot LEGO photos.
Tumblr media
I like making people believe that a small toy made of plastic is alive. In fact I enjoy recreating comic situations to make people smile.
Tumblr media
I find inspiration in everyday life, watching movies and from LEGO communities on Instagram and Flickr. My favorite subjects are the minifigures, but my works includes various themes like medieval, pirates, astronauts, movies...for example, I enjoy put the stormtroopers in unusual situations.
Tumblr media
I currently use Olympus OMD E-M10 Mark III with 30mm macro lens with a LED panel for lighting. In my workflow, I’ll draw a sketch or write some lines just to remember the idea.
Tumblr media
I think that details are important and for this reason, I try to collect all the things that will I need to prepare the scene.
Tumblr media
I think about the composition and the lighting. I like to move the camera lens to the eye level of the minifigures – it helps to dive into the scene and makes it more credible."
Thank you for accepting our invitation and let the community knows you better!

Me, Danny (@foolishbricks), and John (@freethegeekman) give feedback on entries to the LEGO World Builder x Four Bricks Tall Phone Photography Challenge
Watch here:
There are a lot of great tips in here for phone photographers and beginners. And it's a good reminder of all the issues we ran into when we started out.
I had a great time doing this with buddies from @brickcentral and we're going to open up feedback to other members of the community soon. I have to figure out when and what though.

🤩 ARTIST SPOTLIGHT: edgy_mando Hello everyone! It's time to direct the spotlight toward our community members, and today we will get to know better edgy_mando!
Tumblr media
"My name is Patryk, known as Edgy_Mando. I’m from Poland and I am a 90s kid. During the day, I work as a graphic designer and in my free time I am a LEGO freak.
Tumblr media
LEGO was my favorite toy in childhood. I received my first sets from my grandfather, who initiated my passion to bricks. Back then, we loved building the first Pirates and Castle sets together. I have many wonderful memories from those times.
Tumblr media
My return to LEGO happened two years ago. As a huge Star Wars fan, I stumbled upon the Razor Crest set from Mandalorian in a store and fell in love with it. I thought, why not buy and build it? Since then, I have started collecting LEGO again and have been enjoying myself. Additionally, I have always admired toy photography by other creators.
Tumblr media
I decided to join this community by actively managing Instagram and regularly taking photos of scenes I come up with.
At first, my photos focused only on Star Wars, but I quickly realized that it limits my creativity, and I wanted something more. In my gallery, you can find photos from Pirates, Castle, City, Marvel, and my own imagined universes. Currently, I enjoy photographing the amazing world of Castle and the daily life of City residents.
Tumblr media
Most of my photos are taken at home. I feel the most freedom in creating when I can calmly analyze and set up everything I need in my own space. A big advantage is the control over the light and the possibility to create my own scenery using elements such as sand, gravel, moss, artificial grass, etc.
Tumblr media
Equipment I use is a Xiaomi Mi Note 10 smartphone as my camera, RGB LED lights, a tripod, and paper cards for light reflection. As for editing software, Lightroom helps me with color correction, while Photoshop is used for retouching (removing dust and unwanted scratches on a minifigures).
Tumblr media
I try to make my photos as natural as possible, but as a graphic designer, I sometimes add minor special effects, mainly in themes like Star Wars (lightsabers, blaster shots, etc.).
Tumblr media
I find ideas for photos everywhere! From my everyday life and surroundings, which I use in the City series, to pop culture, movies, games, or even art, which allows me to create my own themes. I have plenty of ideas, and when I decide one, I build MOC (My Own Construction), set up scenes, and turn on the lights to realize my shot as it looks in my mind."
Thank you for accepting our invitation and let the community knows you better!
