I'm delighted to be taking part in the Murder in Tuscany by TA Williams blog tour #cosymystery @BoldwoodBooks @rararesources @TAWilliamsBooks @BookandTonic
Here’s the blurb: A remote retreat… Nestled high in the Tuscan hills lies Villa Volpone, home to renowned crime writer Jonah Moore and his creative writing course. It’s also the last place retired DCI Dan Armstrong expected to spend his retirement! Dan’s no writer, but maybe this break will help him to think about the next chapter in his own life story? A gruesome murder… But only days into…

Winter Wishes at Roseford Reloved
When the ceiling of preloved clothing shop Roseford Reloved falls in at the height of Christmas season, owner Polly Parrott is in despair. She can see her fortunes draining away as quickly as the water is pouring through her roof. What makes it worse is that standing right underneath the deluge is Will Sutherland, sporting hero and new owner of Parson’s Grange, the new modern mansion in Roseford. Polly and Will’s first meeting is about as far from a success as it can be, but over a festive season of Christmas markets, a Yuletide Ball and inconvenient snowfalls, can they forge a friendship or even more, despite their unpromising beginning? Or will the complications in both of their lives end their romance before it even begins?
My Review: Roseford is always a place I love to visit as I love to visit story written by Fay Keenan as it’s like travelling to a lovely place where people is friendly and ready to help, there may be problems but also a solution. There’s fun, there’s a lot of emotion and be sure you will find love. This is this type of book on steroid and even if it was a bit complex to read it, like starting another book and experience a sort of deja vu before discovering you already read it. That said I loved Polly, Will, was glad to catch up with the characters and it was a great way to pass time while I was commuting even if it was early, grey and cold. This novel made me smile, root for the characters, and turn pages trying to understand what was going to happen and not miss my station. That said I loved it and it’s recommended. It can be read as a standalone but read the rest of the series for the best experience. Many thanks to Boldwood and Rachel’s Random Resources for this digital copy, all opinions are mine

REVIEW
The Lonely Lake Killings by Wes Markin
The Yorkshire Murders #2
Dark, gritty, murder with plenty of red herrings, surprises, and characters that I had trouble relating to. I wondered if I had read the first book I would have known, liked and/or understood the main characters better. I wasn’t sure why Emma was working in a different town than her husband and daughter lived in and wondered what her relationship with colleagues was really like. Her brother was a bit of a mystery and it was difficult to understand him as well as how he and his daughter would play into Emma’s future. I guess I ended up with more questions than answers about the characters though the police procedural aspects did determine who had killed a few people in the story. I never really warmed up to Emma or Paul and may or may not read another book in this series.
Thank you to NetGalley and Boldwood Books for the ARC – This is my honest review.

But DCI Emma Gardner and her partner DI Paul Riddick aren’t so sure. Why would the old hermit leave such an obvious clue? And who would want to set the old man up? As they dig deeper into the murder they discover a community in fear, determined to keep hold of long buried secrets. And Riddick is convinced that his own dark past is somehow linked to this crime, too. Fatal Lies by Anita Waller (A Forrester Detective Agency Mystery #2)
For Matt Forrester, The Forrester Detective Agency is going from strength to strength: they’ve expanded their office space and even hired a new office manager – a qualified and astute woman named Carol. What starts as a simple burglary case soon turns into something darker. The victim of said burglary soon turns up dead, after engaging in threats with the local yobs she believed to have been responsible. But it soon becomes clear that there’s more at play here, and Matt – alongside sister Hermia, partner Steve, and life partner Karen – will have to put all their skills to the test, even if it puts them in danger…

My Review: I didn’t read the first in this series and will surely do it as I thoroughly enjoyed this story that it’s hard to classify as genre but easy to define as highly entertaining. I like the style of writing and the characters; Ms Waller is an excellent storyteller and has a knack for keeping you reading and causing what I call the one-more-chapter syndrome and sleep deprivation due to late night reading. Matt, Karen and the cast of characters are relatable and likeable. They’re well developed and it’s easy to root for them. The plot is tightly knitted and full of surprises, I thoroughly enjoyed it and I liked the solution. I can’t wait to read the next story; this one is highly recommended. Many thanks to Boldwood Books and Rachel’s Random Resources for this digital copy, all opinions are mine

REVIEW
The Marriage Season by Jane Dunn
Two sisters setting out from the country in hopes of finding the stability marriage will provide for the younger one. The elder had her chance, married, and lost her captain to the war only having a young son, some letters, and memories to remind her of all she lost.
I loved the cover and the blurb with comparison to Georgette Heyer had me hoping for a rollicking good romp of a read but for some reason I found the story slow, predictable, and somewhat stilted in the telling. I had trouble warming to the romance between the characters and seeing how they ended up together. I did remind me of the prosy descriptive staid writing of a century ago without the lighter brighter more engaging feel more modern books provide.
This is a story that held promise and one that I am sure will appeal to those who prefer sedate stolid stories, but it was not engage me or make me care about the outcome. And James, the precocious toddler taken with horses seemed out of place and in the way rather than the typical adorable child of the era that was seen but not heard. Of all the characters in the book, I think the one that I cared most about might have been Valentine.
Did I enjoy this book? Not as much as I had hoped to
Would I read more by this author? Probably not
Thank you to NetGalley and Boldwood Books for the ARC – This is my honest review.

     BLURB
‘It’s not a fair world I’m afraid. Beauty or fortune carries the day. You have the beauty and I the fortune, so there’s every chance we’ll succeed’ In Regency England, marriage is everything. For young widow Sybella Lovatt, the time has come to find a suitable husband for her sister and ward Lucie. Male suitors are scarce near their Wiltshire estate, so the sisters resolve to head to London in time for The Season to begin. Once ensconced at the Mayfair home of Lady Godley, Lucie’s godmother, the whirl of balls, parties and promenades can begin. But the job of finding a husband is fraught with rules and tradition. Jostling for attention are the two lords – the charming and irresistible Freddie Lynwood and the preternaturally handsome Valentine Ravenell, their enigmatic neighbour from Shotten Hall, Mr Brabazon, and the dangerous libertine Lord Rockliffe, with whom the brooding Brabazon is locked in deadly rivalry. Against the backdrop of glamorous Regency England, Sybella must settle Lucie’s future, protect her own reputation, and resist the disreputable rakes determined to seduce the beautiful widow. As the Season ends, will the sisters have found the rarest of things – a suitable marriage with a love story to match? Sunday Times bestselling author Jane Dunn brings the Regency period irresistibly to life in a page-turning novel packed with surprising revelations, which all comes wittily, gloriously, good in the end. Perfect for fans of Gill Hornby, Janice Hadlow, Jane Austen, and anyone with a Bridgerton-shaped hole in their lives.
