Ngl, I really think that these bylers that are crying 24/7 about "purity culture" or whatever, are playing dumb when they start with their "but Nancy and Steve were 16 and 17 in that scene of s1!!!1" like... We got introduced to these characters at that age and the people playing them were already adults. So yeah, sorry but I think it's easy to see why most viewers would be uncomfortable with a more sexual scene of Mike and Will and it's not automatically homophobia, I think that would be the case with any of the kids since we got introduced to these characters when they were 12 and the actors were babies as well. We literally saw those kids grow. And I'm not saying byler should only get to peck or hold hands, It'd be cool if they have their epic kiss or whatever, but Will hasn't even had his first kiss yet and some of these people are already talking about sex scenes, like... Be for real 😭
funny you should say that...because i've used the nancy was 15-16 in season one argument (last tag) before while also saying that i understand why people find the sex part of their sexualities uncomfortable to discuss. and i wanna reiterate that, again, i totally understand that people feel like they've seen them grow up etc etc and that they still think of the actors themselves as children even thought they're not anymore.
i don't think it's all homophobia because like you said, people would probably feel the same about lucas and max and discussions of sex (i don't know if anyone is discussing that because there's much less discourse to have there and you can't argue that people are homophobic if they disagree with you) but i don't think it would be justified either. the "but we knew the characters when they were little" argument makes me think me of an ancient disney channel/abc show that old people and girl meets world fans who watched it for the first time in the 2010s will know, boy meets world (1993-2000). classic comic of age show, look at these kids. and eric in the back (he's fifteen).
Tumblr media
they're eleven at the start of the show and then, what happens in any coming of age story happens, you guessed it...
Tumblr media
they grow up. this is them in the later seasons, when the main characters are still in high school i think. they grow up, they talk about sex and about having sex at prom in season five and then they don't have sex right away because they figure it's not the right time yet or something like that, and then they have sex later and get married, the details don't matter. but my point is, who watches a show for five seasons, over years and years and gets upset at the main characters having sex because "this is crazy they used to be children"? isn't that the point of coming of age stories that cover multiple years or that focus on the latter years of adolescence, that they're not children forever and that at one point the characters "come of age" which usually includes their first sexual experiences?
i don't think the having sex part is particularly important in stranger things but also it doesn't have to be for it to be portrayed (see jonathan and nancy), teenagers have sex, it's just the way the world works. i'm not advocating for sex scenes of any kind especially because stranger things isn't a show that features a lot of sex in general, the only "explicit" sex scene being nancy and steve in season one with cuts to barb dying, but i genuinely don't think the duffers would have any qualms about portraying teenage sexuality in general with the party. if they did, they wouldn't have included erica threatening lucas to tell dustin what she found under his bed (it wasn't the communist manifesto) and they wouldn't have had max looking at a shirtless steve for an amount of time that's supposed to make the audience laugh. it's been 7 years. if they do a time jump, the babies will be about 17, played by actors who will all be around 20, the age natalia was when filming season one. the characters are teenagers, babies grow up. it happens to the best of us. i get why people would find it uncomfortable and maybe i would find it uncomfortable too but i wouldn't be scandalized. the duffers had no problem having a child actor portray everything will goes through in seasons one and especially two, i really feel like sex is fine and...not traumatizing or hard to watch compared to every single thing will's gone through lol. and again, i'm not even expecting them to have sex lmao, but i wouldn't cry myself to sleep if they revealed that everyone in the party actually knows what sex is.
last question: do we have any indication that jonathan had talked to more than one other girl (the girl at the halloween party being the one girl i'm counting for him) before he got together with nancy. i'm just asking because of your last sentence, because if we don't he should have slowed down also😭
#yes i'm back to calling people old for no reason. <3#saying that they will all be around 20 isn't a stretch because noah's turning 19 in 4 months and they haven't begun filming yet. thank you#i'm not mad at you anon sorry for not really agreeing with you and again i get where you're coming from and i don't even expect them to#have sex and if they did i would expect it to be implied like jonathan and nancy but yeah#what i mean when i say it's not particularly important in st is that i don't think they need to have sex for will's arc to be complete or#anything😭#i would've been happy with jonathan and nancy only kissing in s2 like idc yk it's a detail#i'm not advocating for sex scenes means HERE in this case i'm not anti-sex scenes in general lmao#i didn't watch bmw over years and years i watched it in like. a month and a half maybe i really was not crying when cory started wanting to#have sex and i was 15...an impressionnable kid who knew what sex was...disheartening i know💔#<- that wasn't me making fun of you anon lmao again i get where you're coming from i just respectfully disagree#i looked up the episode where they have sex and (spoiler alert lol) cory and topanga end up only having sex on their wedding night i think?#and that's not the episode in s5 i'm talking about but they consider having sex and talk about it so still bringing that one up#i found an article about something rider strong (shawn) said about not liking this episode because while they talk about sex at length they#never talk about safe sex and he even talked about his concerns to the showrunner because he thought it was irresponsible since yk young#viewers and all that and he was like maybe you don't get it different generations mine grew up with aids and everything this is really#important and he brushed him off! i thought that was interesting. this has nothing to do with st#ask

watching boy meets world s2 is so funny bc it feels like every episode we're being told in some new way that cory has a severe case of comphet ... the way he just cannot understand how pairing off works no matter how hard he tries, the way he asks topanga out not because of any genuine feelings but because everyone else is pairing off and he doesnt want to be an outsider, the way he seems genuinely terrified of being in relationships and pursuing girls for the rest of his life like its an inevitability he does not want, the way he becomes way more enthusiastic about dating once eric tells him he doesnt even have to like the girl hes pursuing, the way he literally never pursues a girl because he likes her but because of some outside force (a dance, a party, the girl asks him first, general societal pressure etc), shawn telling him "the closet is your friend" ?????????? cory sees the idea of heterosexual relationships as an inevitability in life, he seeks it out not because he genuinely wants to date girls but because thats just what you're supposed to do if you're a guy. its just so interesting to me, especially because of how it completely contrasts the many retcons from season 3 and on that assert that cory, in fact, has been capable of feeling heterosexual love this whole time and actually has been dating topanga since the age of 5 or 3 or since infancy or whatever. i understand they try to explain away his aversion to girls in s1-2 by saying that cory just had a phase in which he was grossed out by girls and didn't want to date them, but even then i don't think a 12-14 year old who is going through a cooties phase would be THIS invested in trying to date several different girls just to not be othered. corys desperation for conformity and how that manifests itself in chasing after a heteronormative fantasy is so baked into his character and it feels so unintentional yet so purposeful at the same time

Man boy meets world is so good I was able to get through the first season so easily. It never got boring or felt like a drag and I remember season 1 being one of my lesser favorite seasons.

you guys have no idea the internal conflict I've been having over whether me and my brother should skip or watch a s2 episode of bmw like this has been haunting me every time we watch an episode I know we're getting closer to the when I have to actually make that decision and he'll know I've skipped one he's not stupid so how do I explain it. like I'm not opposed to skipping episode especially late season but this episode was SO formative for me and I genuinely believe it's got ultimately a really nice important message. but I was like elevenish at the time and my brother is only nine so :/ and that's not even getting into whether my parents would be ok with it or if they'd be pissed at me if I showed it to him but it's like it's not even bad it's a family sitcom it's not that crazy. but my parents are weird about sheltering him from stuff and I think the fact that it's a whole episode about sex as a concept and not just a joke or whatever that they won't like. but again I think it's a great and it's not just about having sex obviously. and I think obviously my brother wouldn't care about this element but to ME it's such a pivotal episode for cory and topanga both together and apart. and it's also just a really good episode. I'm watching it now and I still don't know. My brother has had basic sex education but obviously he's not an age to like truly genuinely understand it (although it's not like the mcs of the show do!) and the idea of like. slutshaming and double standards for men and women regarding sex aren't even things he has ever come across so like am I just introducing him to a sexist thing to then condemn it which is pointless or am I pre-empting him to think better when he's older or am I being ridiculous and this is just a twenty minute episode of 90s television. and most of all are my parents gonna be mad at me

I know this isn't about BMW s2 in particular, but...what prompted you to take another look at the show? I watched it on its first run, and now I'm considering going back.
There is a short answer and long answer to this…and yet they both culminate in a sort of eerie happenstance in my life, so I’ll try not to read into the universe drawing me back in, prodding me along the way with various signs to take another look…and yet, I’m about to answer this question so there’s that…
Short answer is the announcement of the podcast – which, I’ll say, as an avid podcast listener, is by far one of the best podcasts, not just rewatch podcasts, out there (bold, underline, and possibly print in a larger font for emphasis). I saw this announcement and reacted as one thirty something who grew up with this show might react, “oh my gosh I loved that show…”
(the past tense is important here because I really hadn’t rewatched an episode of it in, truthfully, a decade or so)
The longer answer is me wanting to answer the question for myself, “would I still love this show?”
Not everything from the past shines bright in the present, some memories are meant to be kept in the past, encapsulated in that sepia film and not restored to a technicolor glory.
So, I started slow. I started with the podcast.
Listening to the first couple episodes, I got emotional right away. Hearing the cast speak so openly, honestly, eloquently, and poignantly, about their experience, about their journey, was like discovering an old photo, one you thought you lost, but found in the back of the photo album, tucked underneath a newer photo, a more recent image, never thinking to check under the present for the past, never thinking you might find something forgotten back there, something worth seeing again.
(something worth listening to again)
And with that mind set, I went ahead and viewed a few highlights of the show, and from just a few episodes, from just the few scenes, I realized pretty quickly, “Oh, yeah, I can go on this journey…I can do this rewatch…”
So, I stopped on my highlight reel and I went back and started rewatching from the beginning, choosing to be surprised going forward as I watch alongside the same pace as the podcast. And while some things I have found I remember very vividly, some things I don’t recall at all, especially in these early seasons when I don’t think I was really aware of the show. Or at least aware of it enough to be paying close attention.
So yeah, I went back and started rewatching this show because of a podcast. But really I started rewatching it because I wanted to know if it moved me as much as it did when I was kid. And the answer (so far) is that it does – but in a totally different way. Because that old photograph, I didn’t know it at the time, but it was taken under the lens of the time. And as I’ve grown older, as I’ve gathered more and more life experiences, that picture brings out different emotions in me than it did before, different moments are now my favorite because I understand them differently. And it’s really beautiful. In every sense of that word. Both the heartbreaking and the wonderful.

Headcanon time!
I've been reading fanfic after fanfic, hc after hc that it is universally acknowledged the Harringtons are a wealthy family, and for extension, so is Steve. And it kind of makes sense, right? The house, Steve driving a BMW at age 17, even the way he dresses. It's logical.
I've been rewatching the series lately, and after the last season, it got me thinking. In S2 he suggests to Nancy that after he graduates he might work for his father’s company to stay with her a few years more, which led me to think that his father’s is a local company. Also, he’s not so disgusted by that idea. And, you know, if his family owns a company, it’s obvious that they’re financially accommodated, but if it’s a local business, they don’t have to be necessarily filthy rich, either.
Steve mentions later that he worked for a few summers as a lifeguard, and after he graduated, he switched jobs and went for something more stable, something he could still be working on when September came, so he applied for Scoops, because the mall would be open all year long. This means that he's been earning his own money since he was, at least, 15. He knows the value of money. See, the guy’s responsible. And hard working. And committed. And that has to come from somewhere, and I bet that he’s been educated that way, to be smart about money.
So, yeah, maybe their parents have money and bought Steve a car at 16, but it’s obvious that Steve takes good care of it, like it’s always clean, and probably he keeps it that way himself (the way he tells Dustin to weep his feet before hopping in sounds a lot like “I just spent all Sunday morning cleaning the goddamn car”).
It is obvious that there is an active education on honest work and the value of money behind these things. This actually leads me to think that maybe the Harringtons are not so bad as parents. Yeah, we hear Steve saying that his father is an asshole, but please, remember that he was 17 when he said it. Maybe he and his father don’t get along well, maybe the Harringtons’ marriage is not a good one, but that doesn’t mean that they are necessarily bad parents. At the end of S3, Robin mocks him that he puts his mom’s name in his resume as a reference, because she’s well respected in town (which helps me to reinforce the idea that the Harringtons are a big name for the locals). I can totally see Steve’s mom sitting with him updating his resume, suggesting he put her name in it.
And then we have Steve’s dream. He wants a family, a big one, and wants to be present, and wants to take them to see the country every year. And that’s another reason the whole fandom assumed that it is the way it is because Steve’s parents were absent. But think about Nancy: she explicitly says that she doesn’t want to be a housewife like her mom because she sees first hand how miserable she is. She builds her dreams from what she sees at home. What if Steve’s the same? What if, even if the Harringtons’ marriage could be better, Steve has good memories with his parents? Maybe he wants to take them to see the country every year precisely because they weren’t that accommodated when he was growing up and they had no possibility of traveling around. Maybe that’s how he acknowledged how privileged he is for having a job, for having a car, and having a family wealthy enough that they don’t have to worry about it, month after month.
Maybe he’s also building his dream because he looks up to his parents, because he actually got a nice, happy childhood at home.
With this, please, don’t get the message that I don’t agree with the fandom popular headcanon, or that I don’t like it or whatever. This is just another reading of Steve’s negative spaces. And personally, it’s one that brings me comfort.

One thing that I've been having a lot of thoughts about how wealth is considered with the stranger things characters in fandom space. Like a lot of fics seem to portray Steve as really rich and everyone else as really poor which just isn't true in canon.
Yes, Steve is shown from early in s1 to come from a rich family. He lives in a big house with a pool, he drives a 1983 BMW 733i, which from my research initially retailed for a little over $34,000 when it first launched. And that is an insanely expensive car for a teenager to be driving around (in today's money that is the equivalent of around $102,000-calculated using in2013dollars inflation calculator). And in s2, his father is implied to own a company. I personally feel Steve was written as rich to be the contrast to Jonathan in a rich asshole vs poor nice guy way (but that's a whole other post, and Jonathan wasn't really a nice guy in s1 because those photos). And after s2 Steve's wealth isn't really mentioned other than seeing his car.
And yes there are characters that are poor. We are always shown that the Byers are poor, especially with the house, the clothes and the cars. We are told that Max comes from a poor family in s2, and shown the drop into poverty in s4 with moving into the trailer and her mom working two jobs. We are shown that Eddie is poor with him living in a trailer with his uncle. And in s4 we are told that Robin considers herself poor (over the driving- she says she doesn't have a licence because she is poor).
We're never really shown or told much about Dustin's financial situation, but it appears to be better than that of the Byers, and of Max.
But we are told that the Wheelers are well off. It's implied early on because of the size of the house and how nice it is, but in s3 Jonathan says that Mr Wheeler "earns 6 figures." And from that, they are at a minimum Upper Middle Class. I can't find figures from the 80's but in 2005 $100,000 was considered the lower threshold for upper middle class. So they are anything but struggling. But I see in fanfics a lot, especially surrounding Nancy and the older teens, Mike and Nancy are written as if they are facing financial insecurity. As if they, alongside the others, have to rely on Steve to provide for them when they're hanging out as a group and to pay for all the fun stuff.
And the Sinclairs it's kinda the same as the Wheelers. We're not told as much about their situation, but we're told in s1 that they live in the same neighborhood as the Wheelers, and their house is shown to be a decent size and it's a nice house as well. So they are also implied to be comfortable financially.
I don't know, I guess I'm just tired of seeing the same trope in fics where everyone is acting like they have no money and need Steve to cover them, despite canon showing two of the families be quite well off.

You've inspired me to rewatch Stranger Things again, and I'm just now realizing we never do see Steve's parents. The reset of the gangs parents we meet all within the first 2 seasons but not Steve's.
NOPE
there’s mentions in S1 re: how mad Steve’s parents will be about the beer/party
Maybe a mention in S2? I honestly can’t remember
In S3 it’s “my dads a Dick and made me get this job”
S4 nothing.
And it’s interesting because we DO meet all the other parents and the parents themselves play a role in the story, most notably Byers and Wheelers of course but we meet Dustin’s mom several times, the Sinclairs, we “meet” Hoppers family, max and billys parents have very influential roles — I don’t think we meet robins mom? But tbf we meet her in the summer in S3 and then it’s spring break in 4 and she’s going into her senior year/in her senior year so maybe her parents give her space?
But Steves parents just. Don’t exist. We know he has a big house we know they’re rich, he drives a BMW and wears members only jackets etc. But the reason his house is the party spot is because his parents aren’t ever home and that’s established early on in S1, his Junior year
So at least since he was sixteen-ish his parents have been absent enough to be noticeable
And sure maybe they’re around between seasons maybe they came right home and helped with his injuries after each season BUT for a show that really relies on family dynamics and found family dynamics— it’s damn near suspicious that they haven’t even hardly been mentioned, much less oresent
And now he’s 19? Pushing 20? So now any parental involvement in 5 just won’t…. Matter. He’s an adult. Been living on his own. Fought monsters for years and saved the town etc what are they doing to do now?
Personally I HC them as neglectful/abusive because they basically abandoned their kid. His dad doesn’t approve of anything he does and we know Mr Harrington is a cheater cos Steve says his mom goes with him on all the trips cos she doesn’t trust him. So not as awful a parent as Neil Hargrove or Lonnie but emotionally abandoning your kid is so so harmful and it 100% explains several things about Steve

One more possible difference with BMW/GMW
I’ve been thinking about this again since David Kendall’s recent episode on Pod Meets World and I’m starting to believe that Michael Jacobs was more of a “final sign-off” guy than having much creative control.
The host trio have mentioned constantly that Michael would leave for multiple seasons, to try to start other shows..which none of them panned out...and other people would take the “showrunner” position for those seasons.
Kendall explained in the podcast, that he was chosen by the network to come to the show and age it up in S2, and he was the showrunner from S2-3. He also brought up the fact that he came back to the direct when other writers were running the show.
Looking through the show, from S2-7 starting with Kendall, there’s an “Executive Producer” credit given after the cast & created by credit, and I’m starting to think that those names were all the showrunners/main voice of the seasons and Michael was more of a just a presence that just basically gave a final sign off on
S2-3:David Kendall
S4: Bob Young
S5: Mark Blutman & Howard Busgang
S6-7: Bob Tischler
Girl Meets World on the other hand, Michael Jacobs is the only sole “Executive Producer” credited for the show’s entire run, meaning he was likely the top voice of the story and everything that went on there....

Tyler James Williams at a roundtable with Steven Yeun and Jason Segal and some more folks,  White female interviewer is recalling how TJW told Janelle James to go buy a BMW cause she can’t be driving up to S2 in a Mazda. He said, “Bitch,” to her, colloquially, like WE do Aaaaaand I’m in love with yet another gay nigga Because I don’t know NO straight man who can call a woman ‘bitch’ like that and it be OK.  I KNEW IT!

The ship dynamic where like ugh ok so A and B were either childhood friends or young lovers and it’s Always Them even if there are other people for them it ends up being ‘A-and-B’ (i.e. Cory-and-Topanga, Wolf-and-Snake, The Bishop (Sarah Black and John Hart), Wendy-and-Tolkien) and they’ve been through their Shit and they’re established and they work so well together but then C comes along
And sometimes C has always been there, loving both of them but not being able to do anything about it because it’s ‘A-and-B and C’ and will never be ‘A-and-B-and-C’. Hell, sometimes A or B even had a thing with C in the past that didn’t work out for whatever reason so it’s over and done and C is just watching wistful from afar (Shawn, Stan)
Other times C is someone entirely new, who shakes up A-and-B’s whole world so much that they have no chance but to notice. They’re really good at the same job, or the banter is just such a new pace but one part of A-and-B just.. really appreciates it. C, however much they like both A-and-B, knows it’s never gonna include them so is very cautious about Everything relating to them (Diane, Nolan Booth)
But either way, A-and-B have a conversation- it’s more difficult for one of them than it is the other (Cory (because it’s always been there but he hasn’t been able to identify so it’s like difficult all around for him y’know he goes through the 5 stages of grief simultaneously), Snake, John Hart (similar to Cory except he’s upset about it), Tolkien) and they approach C and they are Beyond confused. They don’t believe it, this has got to be a prank or something. A-and-B are making fun of them- except C knows they would never do that, not like this. C will just have to leave, as to not disturb the peace A-and-B have created…
But A-and-B want it to be A-and-B-and-C
Of course, one part of A-and-B has more difficulty adjusting than the other (Topanga, Snake, John Hart, Tolkien)- they and C fight, they’re petty, it takes a lot of reassurance but they want this to work for their hinge (idk what else to call them I’m talking about like the Cory and Wolf characters) so them and C get to know each other one-on-one, they figure their shit out. It’s still more turbulent than just A-and-B was, but with time it becomes easier etc. etc.
AUGH it’s just so much I could talk about each individual ship So Much (especially Shawn-and-Cory-and-Topanga I’m currently watching BMW and they mean SO MUCH to me) so I think I will because this is my blog y’all get to see my opinions!!! This is just like my main/favorite hc of how it happens I Loveee playing around with timelines for angst or smut hehe
Shawn-and-Cory-and-Topanga
So ok I’ve like Not watched past s2 yet but idc I love them. I think that Topanga figured it out- watched Cory’s reactions to Shawn’s “babe” one too many times, noticed Shawn finding Cory in a room first every single time, woke up more often then she thought was normal with the taste of Shawn’s lips on hers (referencing that one ep where they kissed for some reason? Idk haven’t watched it yet but ik it happens I’ve read fanfic), felt Shawn’s hand brush against her free hand all the time in the halls. She decides enough is enough, sits Cory down- she’s smart, she’s not mad, is he in love with Shawn? Yes Topanga, of course he’s in love with Shawn, you can’t be friends with someone for this long without being in love with them. No Cory, not like that- does he love Shawn the way he loves Topanga.
And oh, the look of slow realization on Cory’s face says so many things.
He’s relaxed (this is just a fact of life for him), he’s confused (what does she mean ‘the same way’, of course he loves them the same), he’s upset (she’s not mad but he is- how could he not have realized for so long? If she doesn’t mind now then how long could he have had his wildest dreams? How long with them did he miss out on?), he’s scared (what could this mean for all of them?), he’s anxious (this is weird, what could his Shawn possible think about this?).
Topanga holds his face, calms her Cory down a bit- me too, she says, for much less time I’m sure, but me too. We can work this out, she insists, we’ll talk to him and explore our options.
And of course, when they finally sit Shawn down with them, he doesn’t- can’t- believe it. This is some sick joke, why would they want him of all people? They could literally have anyone they wanted at any time, why him and why now? But no, they just keep saying it. I love you. We love you. It’s always been you, Shawn, I just couldn’t see it- be glad Topanga only waited this long to tell me and not longer. If you don’t believe my words, Shawn, believe my dreams- do you want me to recount them right now? They’re a bit explicit for a first conversation, but I could start with- and on and on and on.
Now both of them calming him down, they come to a consensus: Shawn can think it over for as long as he needs, Cory-and-Topanga will act with him exactly as they always have until he says otherwise. Topanga is already guessing at his answer, but Cory has barely ever been more nervous in his life.
Of course, it works out for the better- Shawn comes back, he needs them in his life as much as they need him. That’s all they know and they’ll work out the intricacies later. Topanga and Shawn, who already have a sort of ‘war’ over Cory, find themselves falling into that back-and-forth sometimes still, but then one of the three starts looking sad and apprehensive and they Converse instead and make it nice (of a tad tense) for the rest of the evening, allowing them to bounce back right in the morning. Shawn has some old habits he really needs to work to kick (isolation mainly), but every time he’s feeling that way the other two know when to hold on with their whole strength and when to welcome him back with open arms.
Snake-and-Wolf-and-Diane
Ok so fully I think Snake (hc: Niraj) is a gay man but like he loves Wolf (canon: Moe) so much and they both fuck around outside of each other so it’s chill that Moe hangs out with Diane now, so often. Until Snake does find himself getting jealous, feeling pushed aside; he’s planning his escape, how he’s gonna deal with not only leaving Wolf without a word, but also the only family he’s had in years. And what really sucks is that Diane is wonderful, she’s so great for Wolf- she’s not some old jaded person, she’s Wolf’s age, full of life and love, Snake’s exact opposite. So he assumes that it’s time for him to leave, again.
He packs his bag, gets halfway to the next town before the whole gang is blowing up his phone. He can’t drive so they (Moe-and-Diane; Niraj has already accepted that his place has been taken) catch up with him fast enough. Diane’s driving; Moe is shaking so much he can barely hold his Niraj, tears streaming down his face.
“You can’t do that to us, Snake! I- we thought you were dead!”
“… just though I should get out of the way before you have to tell me to go, is all.”
It’s a whole thing, they’re both yelling at each other. Diane doesn’t know where she fits into this, so she just drives them home when they’re done yelling. She’s a bit scared, but she does love them both and she knows how much Moe needs Snake.
A lot of talking, a lot of compromise, a lot of reassurance from Moe. Diane offers to step out multiple times but they keep her there, because as much as it’s about Niraj-and-Moe it’s also about Diane. Etc. etc. this ship especially is a slow go, takes a long time to become functional again, but it is so worth it once they get there. (Snake is a big believer of ‘a hole’s a hole’ and also Diane is big on pegging so it does work out sexually even if outside of that they’re just really good friends who share a boyfriend but tbh it just like clockwork with how good everything is ugh I love this movie tremendously. Also Diana and Webs definitely flirt more than ‘friends joking’ and the whole lot of them are a bit polyamorous/anarchist in their relationships)
John Hart-and-Sarah Black-and-Nolan Booth
They like Have a canon ‘hey let’s try this throuple thing out’ scene it’s where Nolan is on their boat and is like ‘you guys fuck so loud you weren’t the only ones crying’ and Sarah is like ‘you’re eating raw pork rn’ and they’re all so silly and then John and Sarah have their ‘do you trust me?’ ‘Yes.’ ‘Do you love me?’ ‘Always.’ ‘Then that’s all we need’ scene and that’s literally Sarah going ‘her babe you literally want to have sex with him so bad just give the romance part a try. I think you guys would be so cute together and also I think he’s really sweet and cute and I kinda want to kiss him as well let’s try this out please.’ And John begrudgingly agrees and the procession of events is so funny after that (to viewers)
John doesn’t think he’s attracted to men so he’s Incredibly confused about all of this. Nolan is confused as to why he feels like this couple- the hottest couple to exist, by the way, his words and you can quote him on it- seems to be.. coming onto him? Sarah is having so much fun scheming about this she is loving this.
Nolan and Sarah bond over Taylor Swift music. John slowly gains respect for Nolan during different heists they pull, and Nolan becomes less scared of John with every small compliment (or rather, lack of a critique). It actually does cause some rifts between John and Sarah but they’ve overcome everything before, them liking some guy isn’t gonna stop them now. So when Sarah finally kisses John and then kisses Nolan, followed immediately by John kissing Nolan, poor Booth feels just a bit lost. John passed him his glass of wine and they talk it out. Takes a while, and it doesn’t definitely get physical for them on the first night, but hey! That’s that and that works for them
And then they commit heists and Sarah has hate sex with Inspector Daz at least once and they live forever after this movie is so. I’m so excited for the sequels you actually have no idea
Tolkien-and-Wendy-and-Stan
So obviously Wendy and Stan had been Wendy-and-Stan- forever ago. Back in elementary school. It’s been Tolkien-and-Wendy since like 8th grade, going strong to senior year. Stan wouldn’t lie and say he’s not jealous, but he would also never admit that he was- Tolkien was his neighbor and actually they do get along really well, and he knows that Kyle and Wendy and Tolkien are close friends individually and he’s been able to be at the very least acquaintances with Wendy recently so he really does not want to ruin that. So he’s just chilling, pining a bit, even if he’s not exactly sure as to who for.
Wendy-and-Tolkien do have a very healthy sex life for two high schoolers, and are very comfortable with one another- when Wendy asks Tolkien (really casually, over lunch) “if you were to sleep with a guy, who would it be?” and he answers “Stan” almost on instinct, Wendy knows exactly how she can work with this. Purely planning for just a sort of sexual arrangement, she gets a bit closer to Stan to assess his mental health and availability and then the three of them have a Long conversation. Tolkien ends up driving them all into Denver to get tested for STDs and they’re all clean (surprisingly on Stan’s part, until they realize just how much he’s actually just been wanting the two of them), they have the sex, and then Stan.. stays the night.
On accident, of course, but he wakes up earlier and better rested than he has since maybe early elementary school, so he makes them all breakfast. He knows how Wendy used to eat and he knows what Tolkien does like so he makes a little spread in the Testaburger kitchen and when the other two wake up they are beyond surprised- not unpleasantly so.
This becomes somewhat of a regular thing- every few weeks, they’ll invite Stan over, and he’ll just end up staying over. He sort of fits into them perfectly, and ends up not just staying over night but in their minds as well. Clearly he’s a lot more grown-up than he was in 4th grade, and they all get along as friends, and Tolkien-and-Wendy decide it’s time for another Long conversation, inviting Stan in as an always fixture to their relationship. Immediately he jumps on board with that idea, and Tolkien-and-Wendy become Tolkien-and-Wendy-and-Stan
The conflict comes mainly from Wendy’s side here- she’s not embarrassed of Stan, she swears, she’s just embarrassed to tell her friends that she’s seeing him again. Tolkien’s a bit worried about telling people the polyamorous part, and Stan is overall a bit offended because he told Kenny and Kyle and Eric the first time Tolkien and Wendy invited him over. This issue mainly resolves itself with time and comfort and then they’re chilling and it’s good. Until Wendy asks Stan the same question she had asked Tolkien…
I had a lot more feelings about this one but uh I cared about South Park for like a month or so and then my brain decided we were tired of it so I have nothing else to offer I just think they’re all a lot more chill and communicative in high school idk
