Pokemon: A team to care for

So if it isn’t obvious Pokemon is pretty much the ONE Jrpg/rpg I can play that I feel like I don’t suck at. Fire emblem? BRUh If there wasn’t basically a easy mode I think EVERYONE in my game would be dead. Xenoblade Chronicles? I struggle with even the most basic enemies. I could go on but you probably get the idea. Because of this I have a long and storied history with the games. Through the good times, bad times, and the times of introspection some version of a team of six made up of various monsters has ALWAYS been there. So. yesterday, cause I noticed you guys seem to like it when I tell stories related to my pokemon journey’s, I decided to make a team of pokemon based around this ONE. SIMPLE. QUESTION. If I had to make a team of six out of the pokemon that matter most to me (have some sort of special meaning or connection to me) what would that team look like? Well I went to Pokecharms, made a trainer card, and here are the results.

Leading the charge is Obviously haxorus, Followed by Sylveon, Then came Charizard, then Gardevoir (The shiny version to be exact which I’ll explain later) Then came Rampardos which probably surprised a lot of you since i don’t talk about it, and Finally Alolan Ninetales. Odd team? Maybe. Do I love them? With My heart and soul (Pun intended). hope ya don’t mind but I AM going to go into detail on them, just a little.

Kukuri-AKA haxorus

I don’t think I REALLY need to go into to much detail. If Ya know me ya Know haxorus is not only my favorite pokemon to ever be made, but also who I consider to be my spirit pokemon. It’s starts off as the rather weird and akward kid that is Axew with it’s weird tusk that are more trouble then help, Evolve into the somewhat cool Fraxure Who’s starting to get the hang of dealing with it’s tusks , and then becomes the BEAST that is haxorus with full control over it tusks turning them into deadly weapons. Kinda like how I dealt with my own disability of being blind in one eye. Yeah you can see why I like this big guy so much. I chose the shiny version as it relates to something else about me as well. My giant port wine stain birth mark that covers half my face. I’ll explain more in a later post. MOVING ON!!!

Serena- AKA Sylveon

So for those of you who want to know the full story I advise looking up the post “The importance of: Sylveon” as it goes into greater detail about why Sylveon matters so much to me. But TLDR: Before X & Y came out I had lost a friend to Cancer and was struck heavy with grief. She was a pokemon fan and before her death some time before X & Y came out she made me promise to at least TRY Sylveon out. Sometime later in pokemon sun I would keep that promise naming the Sylveon after her as I was lucky enough to get a female Eevee. Ever since Sylveon has been a very special pokemon to me.

Blair- AKA Charizard

So with Charizard it was more of a result of a reset of Pokemon Y and needing a good fire type. See This reset was LONG after the special event where you could get a free torchic with a mega blaziken stone. As a result I had a slot open and knew that the Kalos region...doesn’t have that many fire types....and even less good ones. BUT I did remember that you get a SECOND STARTER in the game. So me being me I said goodbye to Bulbasur and hello Charmander...not realizing I had not only gotten a FEMALE STARTER....but a Shiny one. After that our relationship quickly grew and we became unstoppable....and then it happened again in a emulation of pokemon Fire red. Female Charmander, this time NOT shiny, and was a total freaking BEAST who could take hits from high level end game pokemon....like they were level ONE.

Artemis-AKA Gardevoir

So...I’m noticing a pattern of sorts with me and Fairy type pokemon...whenever something horrible happens in my life that effects my mental state......I play pokemon and a Fairy type helps Veal those wounds. Artemis is no exception to this rule. I’ll do a full on post about her some day but TLDR: A family member had passed, My great grandfather to be exact who died peacfully in his sleep. I remember I had brought with me my 3DSXL and pokemon Alpha sapphire to help me get over the loss. Load and behold. One of the first pokemon I encountered was a shiny female ralts. I threw a pokeball at full health thinking it wouldn’t catch. One shake *CLICK!* I named her Artemis after the greek moon goddess as I remembered that Gardevoir learns moonblast with a heart scale. To this day I only see Gardevoir as Artemis. As the moon guardian that helped me heal. Side note: This art is how I always imagine Artemis whenever she went mega.

Ram Ram-AKA Rampardos

So let me make it clear...I freaking LOVE Rampardos. Why? Cause Cranidos was my very first fossil pokemon, and a crutial member of my team back when I played Diamond for the first time. I loved it in the anime, and in the game all because ONE. PARTICULAR. PERSON had one. Roark. Y’know. The gym leader? yeah I actually lost to him the first time. So imagine my utter ShOCK when i saw ThIS BEAST instead of Cranidos. I vividly remember saying after the fight “I need to get me one of those.” and when I did...It was a glorious day...as the NVP of my ENTIRE game was born. This guy could out speed a crobat, hit harder then a tsudo legendary, and took hits like they were NOThING. I LOVED him...and his name was a pun. Yup. Funny story the day Ram Ram was made I was watching the flintstones, to be exact the episode where Bam Bam got introduced. As a Joke I named my Cranidos Ram Ram...only to come full circle and teach him rocksmash. From then on I just imagined my little baby Cranidos headbutting people as his way of saying hello.

Tenko-AKA Alolan Ninetales.

This one came about mostly due to a VERY small fan theory that I saw back when ultra sun and moon were new. The theory goes as such: That Alolan Vulpix you interact with through out the game? that is cannonically one of the protagonist pokemon. I gotta say I loved that theory so much I actually used a Alolan ninetales. I named her Tenko cause I thought it sounded cool, as well though Alolan Ninetales was the first regional variant that I used, with it’s pre-evolution Alolan Vulpix, being one of the first plushies I bought for myself.

“CHAIN STORES SAY THEY WILL OBSERVE BYLAW,” Winnipeg Tribune. June 24, 1930. Page 11. ---- Stayed Open Last Week Only to Force Issues; Police Court Cases Remanded ---- Chain stores, having last Wednesday disobeyed the early closing by-law in order to draw attention to the manner in which it was being enforced, will close tomorrow afternoon and on all Wednesday afternoons in future, according to statements made this morning by chain store officials.

This afternoon 38 grocers appeared in city police court charged with breach of the early closing bylaw. Most of them were managers of chain store branches. Counsel for them pleaded not guilty and their cases were remanded until July 2. Not Defying Law Chain store officials, interviewed this morning, stressed the fact they had no intention of keeping their stores open in defiance of the law. They were heartily in favor of the early closing bylaw but wanted to see it more strictly enforced. It was unfair to expect the chain stores to close if other stores were allowed to remain open, they said.

"The only reason we kept our stores open last Wednesday was to force the issue," said R. E. Barnett, market manager, Piggly Wiggly Ltd. "We are in favor of a bylaw which would force all retail establishments-grocers, butchers, hardware merchants, shoe shops - to close on Wednesday afternoon. We think both the executives and employes need the half-day holiday. But we don't think it fair that we should be called on to shut up shop when other stores are still doing business."

Nostalgia, Part 3 (Rujubee) - Dartmouth420

nostalgia is a series that follows the re-ignition of raven/jujubee’s friendship (with benefits) while jujubee competes on all stars five and raven is working on set. there will be one chapter for every episode of AS5 where jujubee appears. drag names used with male pronouns.

summary: Jujubee’s coming off the thrill of the challenge win and the lip-sync battle. But jealousy is a double-edged sword… and bad habits are hard to break.

a/n: i’m enjoying the heck out of AS5 and i hope y'all are too.

Jujubee was very pleased with his performance in the challenge. Designing and presenting the hotel room had been surprisingly fun and despite his early misgivings, India and Alexis had been great to work with. Jujubee was confident, he’d been funny, coherent, and had delivered exactly as he’d intended. One hundred percent pure Laotian gold sheets indeed.

Raven hadn’t been around much and Jujubee hadn’t sought him out.

“Girl,” said Mariah, in that patient, knowing drawl of his as they painted their faces in the mirror in preparation for the runway and the judging, “I know what you’re doing.”

“Do you now?” responded Jujubee, carefully covering his mild panic. Not that there was anything to panic about but he had technically broken an important rule…

“Don’t you look at me like that, I ain’t a snitch!” laughed Mariah, “But I noticed that hickie. Maybe next time I’m feeling the stress of the competition I’ll go see for myself if darling Raven is around. I’ve got good memories of that mouth.”

“Since when?” responded Jujubee. He hadn’t realized the two of them had ever been involved, though hook-ups were certainly common among the community.

“We’ve both been around for a while,” said Mariah, with a knowing shrug, “We’ve both been getting around for a while.”

“Damn, who hasn’t he let fuck him?” joked Jujubee lightly, but slight jealousy was twisting in his stomach. He couldn’t deny Raven’s reputation. Though Jujubee had vaguely hoped he had the other man to himself, at least if their on-set shenanigans were going to continue.

“Out of the old generation? That list is short. From what I’ve heard he and Raja are working through the younger ones, too… just ask baby Naomi.”

Jujubee chuckled and he and Mariah returned to the task at hand.

Jujubee won the fucking challenge!

He couldn’t help letting a few tears escape his eyes as the pride and relief overflowed. It was a lot. And then the damn Untucked was a lot, too. Connecting with Mayhem and Blair was great, but emotional as hell. Nerves and anticipation were creeping up for what was to come next.

He spoke with everyone, changed into his leopard-print catsuit, picked out his damn lipstick and then before Jujubee knew it he was standing on the runway, and Ru was shouting “Ru-veal yourself!”

Jujubee turned, heart in his throat as he stared at the screen and the assassin contained behind it. Jujubee’s prediction from the other week in the bathroom with Raven returned to him, and his heart pounded in anticipation. Was it Raven behind that screen? Production would never be able to wrangle it, there was no way, but-

The screen rolled up and Jujubee saw soft orange velvet ankle-boots and while they were lovely shoes Raven would never wear something like that in a million years. As the screen rose Jujubee forced Raven to leave his mind as he focused on the task at hand, which was going to be beating Monét-motherfucking-X-Change in a lip-sync battle, to a Lizzo song.

All Stars Five was hard, damn it.

Monét gave an amazing performance, and Jujubee did his best but the emotion of the day left him a bit thrown off. Jujubee was disappointed with the loss, he could admit that. Somewhere in back of his mind he knew if he had been lip-syncing against Raven he could have beaten him, and felt ever-so-slightly cheated that his prediction hadn’t come true. Oh well, it was water under the bridge.

Then there was the matter of sending Mariah home which was way more fucking tragic than anyone including Jujubee had been ready for.

“Good luck, girl,” whispered Mariah in Jujubee’s ear as they hugged and he left the runway, “And have fun.”

When Jujubee finally, finally got back to the hotel after a very long day, he walked down the hall to his room and noticed a figure leaning against the wall next to his door, one arm tucked under the opposite elbow, eyes down on his phone.

It was of course, Raven, looking like a tall drink of… chaotic whore. But what else was new? Jujubee approached, quiet, waiting for Raven to notice him.

“Hey bitch!” said Raven when he looked up, a grin his face, “I heard a rumour that you won the challenge today.”

“Mm-hmm,” replied Jujubee, self-satisfied, sliding his hotel key into the slot and then opening the door. The day had been an emotional roller coaster, full of highs and lows. He was dead tired on his feet.

Raven followed him inside without needing to be asked and said, “Congratulations.”

“Thanks, fuck I needed a win.”

“I know, you deserve it. It’s been a long time coming.”

Jujubee tossed his day bag onto the chair, and laughed, “I thought it was gonna be you behind that screen. Bitch I was like ooh shit we just talked about it last week and now I’ve won? Hope he’s ready… ”

Raven put his phone down on the table, “I wasn’t lying to you when I said I’m not an assassin-”

“Jury’s still out on that, I can’t trust anyone.”

Raven laughed, and Jujubee gave him a suspicious side-eye that was mostly for show. Mostly.

“Monét destroyed you.”

“I wouldn’t say ‘destroyed’,” replied Jujubee, mildly insulted. He thought he’d held his own pretty well in the lip-sync, but the disappointment that it wasn’t Raven had thrown him off…

“Kicked your ass, cut you to pieces, sliced and diced,” continued Raven, stepping closer to him.

“Shut up.”

“No, I live to give you a hard time,” said Raven, passing by Jujubee and making his way over to stand next to the end of the bed, “One more bitch down, huh?”

Jujubee took a moment. Raven was posed awkwardly, looking down at the bed with his arms crossed, avoiding eye contact. Jujubee cocked his head to one side, and considered his response. He was pretty damn tired tonight but elation and pride were still tingling under his skin. He had just won, after all. And curiosity was pulling at him.

“Did you get a chance to say goodbye to Mariah?” asked Jujubee, casually, reaching for the water bottle he’d left out on the table.

“Yeah, I saw him afterwards. You know how emotional the eliminations are. We, uh, talked,” said Raven quickly. Jujubee recalled his earlier conversation with Mariah, noted Raven’s avoidance of eye contact and presumed something must have happened. But it seemed odd that Raven wouldn’t brag about it.

“Did he say anything interesting?” asked Jujubee.

“Interesting?”

Jujubee shrugged and took a drink of water. All he could picture was Raven’s mouth around his cock the first week in the supply closet, how good it had felt and whether Raven had done the same thing for Mariah. Jujubee was certain that he had, but there was no rational reason to feel jealous. “Sit down,” ordered Jujubee and there was an instant change in the air, and to Raven’s expression. But Raven didn’t obey immediately, he waited, drawing out the moment. And then Raven sat down on the edge of the bed and looked at Jujubee expectantly.

How intriguing. Ah, Jujubee could certainly pursue Cracker if he wanted to, the man wasn’t unattractive, but playing with Raven’s ridiculous emotions would probably be more fun. It wasn’t that Jujubee wanted to actually hurt him by any means, but Raven could be so dramatic and self-centred that there was a certain satisfaction to winding him up.

Jujubee admired Raven’s ass as he got up and pulled his underwear and jeans back on, heaving a deep sigh.

“Bye bitch,” called Jujubee, as Raven got his phone and left with a casual wave of his hand. The door shut behind him, and Jujubee blinked, the exhaustion of the day crashing back down on him. He got up and went to the bathroom to brush his teeth.

Boris Johnson hugs Trump close — for now

NEW YORK — Boris Johnson wants to hug Donald Trump close in the hope of striking a post-Brexit trade deal with the U.S. — but not so close that he risks being burned should the friendship explode.

The pair are set to meet at the United Nations General Assembly in New York on Tuesday, where any number of policy differences could provoke an eruption — or at least a barrage of angry tweets.

“Trump is such a maverick and such an operator with the media that I think we’re feeling quite cautious about engaging too much. He can blow up in your face,” one senior government figure said. “Clearly we have got to maintain the relationship because the U.S. is a very important ally. But we need to remain close to the U.S. not close to Donald Trump.”

The pair have been building something of a public friendship since Johnson won the keys to Downing Street in July. The commander-in-chief heaped has praise on Johnson since long before he won the Tory leadership, and they have been in touch an unusual amount since. Notably for a president prone to bust-ups on the world stage, Trump has shown Johnson considerably more leeway than other world leaders, all the more striking given how relations soured with Johnson’s predecessor, Theresa May.

But behind the scenes Team Johnson are aware Trump is always eyeing his own electoral gain.

“He is not focused on the relationship; he’s focused on getting reelected,” the senior government figure said. “He is always in that mode. So we just need to be very careful about how we engage.”

This mindset can also prove useful. Johnson made an eye-catching intervention on Iran on Monday night in an interview with U.S. broadcaster NBC, saying only Trump could re-negotiate the “bad” Iran deal.

If the aim was to flatter the president into coming to the negotiating table with Iran, it could prove effective. Trump had responded enthusiastically to an earlier Johnson interview in which he suggested a fresh Iran pact.

“That’s why he’s a winner,” the president told a White House pool reporter. “That’s why he’s a man who’s going to be successful in the U.K.”

Trump added: “Number one, he’s a friend of mine. Number two, he’s very smart, very tough.”

Johnson, on the other hand, has been less enthusiastic about pegging himself too closely to the U.S. president. As he flew over the Atlantic to the U.N. summit on Sunday night, he was asked by POLITICO whether he would describe Trump as his “closest friend” among world leaders.

The prime minister dodged the question. “I have a good relationship with many leaders around the world,” he said. “And I think it’s very important that the U.K. has a strong close working relationship with the United States of America, which is after all our No. 1 ally.”

A Downing Street official pushed back against any notion Johnson would be keeping his distance from Trump.

“We won’t be keeping him at arm’s length and have proved so far not to be keeping him at arm’s length with the level of interaction and the things that we are working on together,” they said.

Don’t call it a bromance

In the immediate weeks after Johnson took office, a bromance seemed to blossom between the blonds. The pair spoke on the phone around five times in the run-up to their first meeting at the G7 summit in Biarritz, where they shared a breakfast of scrambled eggs and veal sausage.

But despite the constructed closeness, there are clear policy disagreements which, if badly managed, risk a rapid crumbling of the relationship.

A Downing Street official put the favorable treatment from Trump down to Johnson’s “competence” and record as London mayor. “We are in a very positive place of working with a leader who seems to be in favor of us,” they said.

But they swerved around the word “bromance” in describing the Johnson-Trump dynamic — a term used to characterize the relationships between David Cameron and Barack Obama, as well as Tony Blair and George W. Bush before them. “We prefer not to compare it to previous relationships,” the official said. “Boris Johnson and Donald Trump share a unique relationship to them, which is working well for both administrations.”

Leslie Vinjamuri, head of the U.S. and Americas program at the Chatham House institute, said the friendship is something of a sham: “There is certainly a strength to be had, especially for Boris Johnson but also Donald Trump, in maintaining the optical illusion that they have a very strong relationship.”

Johnson is desperate for a post-Brexit trade deal with Washington, she said, and Trump, as well as respecting the hard line approach to Brexit, is open to a deal.

Beyond that, she noted, there is a world of disagreement between the pair. Trump has ditched the Iran nuclear deal and wants to take a harder line with Tehran, while Johnson, at least until Monday, had argued for holding the pact together. Trump is a climate skeptic, while Johnson has put the agenda at the “absolute core” of his government’s actions. Trump has responded to the rise of China with a trade war, while Johnson has insisted he will be pro-China and has voiced his opposition to tariffs.

Vinjamuri argued the Trump approach to Johnson — of a superficial bromance with disagreements bubbling beneath — mirrors his approach with other world leaders, including China’s Xi Jinping, Russia’s Vladimir Putin and Japan’s Shinzō Abe. “There is a bromance but then there is a failure to align on any number of policies,” she said.

Johnson is certainly not scared to bring policy differences to the fore. At the G7 breakfast meeting, he told Trump to his face, albeit sheepishly, that Britain prefers “trade peace” to trade war. Trump sucked it up. “Sure,” he said, with a pout.

Other world leaders could have expected a barrage of angry tweets once Trump had clambered back into Air Force One. But not Johnson.

The prime minister thus far has enjoyed a leeway with the president that few others seem to achieve — while simultaneously failing to return the outpouring of flattery. During the presidential election in 2016 he said Trump betrayed a “stupefying ignorance” and was unfit for office after the candidate claimed there were “no-go areas” in London swamped with Islamic extremism.

Tripwires will hove into view again when the pair meet on Tuesday morning.

Johnson declared on the plane to New York that he would be raising the climate issue directly with the president. “I will be making the point to President Trump — a point I’ve made many times before — that we must tackle climate change together and we must tackle the loss of species together,” he said.

Johnson even announced environmental funds to combat climate change and save endangered animals ahead of the event. He also said he would gripe to Trump about tariffs and regulations covering the import of British socks to the U.S.

“If you try to sell British socks in North America they currently attract a 19 percent tariff,” he said. “And the Americans insist, before they allow British socks to be sold on the U.S. market, that they must try to set fire to them twice.” Sock manufacturers, however, were less convinced.

Despite clear policy differences, both sides were keen to demonstrate their cooperation ahead of the U.N. General Assembly, with a preliminary phone call briefed to journalists last Wednesday.

“I think UNGA will be another opportunity to continue that positive engagement,” the No. 10 official said.

Hey, big personality

For all the policy differences, the two leaders share similarities in political style.

Both are unorthodox political personalities who know how to set the media narrative alight. “The camaraderie between the two stems from both a sense of shared personal characteristics and also a strategic alignment of interests,” said Sophia Gaston, managing director at the British Foreign Policy Group. Gaston noted Trump respects a “strong man” persona, and points out that there is “no part of the existing world order that [he] considers to be sacred.”

“One of the greatest driving characteristics of both Johnson and Trump is that they want to be liked,” she said, “and this may end up shaping and tempering their choices.”

Johnson has long been characterized as thriving off affection, while Trump’s thin skin and his selective assessment of supporters and protesters reveal his vulnerabilities.

Some of their personal similarities could be hindrances though. “It seems unlikely they can truly establish a long term professional relationship that puts the interests of their nations above their egos,” one senior Tory MP said. “Look at every other Trump or Johnson relationship — it seems unlikely that either can truly have a relationship of equals.”
