10 years is a long time.

usually that length of time expands as distance psychologically, and gives us space for healing, but obi-wan has not moved on at all—physically he's abiding in a liminal space on the edge of civilization, bound by a sort of invisible tether to anakin's child, and psychologically, he's still dreaming about him, still living in a fog. hearing anakin's name still makes him flinch like it's a physical blow.

the fact that after a decade he's still waking up with nightmares, still living in that same mental space full of unprocessed trauma, like he hasn't let himself process, despite all his solitude and time for meditation and reflection, he hasn't allowed himself to let go in all the ways that matter. he is still clinging on to the past, and it makes sense!! to lose your entire world, all your loved ones, betrayed and hunted. i wouldn't let go easily either.

he's really and truly not a jedi in the beginning of the show, because he's not practicing the jedi philosophy at all—he's not helping others. not letting go. it's like when he was enslaved on kadavo during the clone wars, and beaten when he tried to help others, until he stopped trying, because he thought it was better, that he couldn't help without harming. it sapped something vital from him, something that was missing in the show as well, until he made the choice to try.

the show has chosen a beautiful character arc for him, and one that is going to rip my heart into a thousand pieces. he is going to let go of anakin, and release that lingering, itching sense of failed ownership over his future. he is going to give up on anakin, and by doing so, he is going to gain resolve, purpose, and hope. he will find his way back to the force, hear the voice of qui-gon, and build a home, instead of lingering on the fringe of civilization like some kind of ghost.

it took 10 years for him to release his guilt and shame, and we get to watch him be freed from that chrysalis, bless and thank.

(all he knows how to do is run, but this time he can use it to protect). and he just wants to die with some reminded of them. that yes, he wasn't a survivor this time, he stayed and he protected. he was loyal and he built a home for his allies and they were safe. but he couldn't get through the door.

“you didn’t kill anakin skywalker. i did” is the most horrifying thing obi wan could hear at that moment. this is a confession from the boy his raised, his brother, his padawan, that every thing he’s ever done - as anakin and as vader - were his choice. there was no trick, no compulsion, no seduction. the boy he raised looked at the family who loved him and decided they deserved to die. that they weren’t worth a place in his grand new world.

and it’s worst because he’s still anakin. he’ll always be anakin, there’s no erasing it. he’s still obi wan’s padawan and he’s still ahsoka’s master and he’s still padmé’s husband and he’s still the jedi’s destruction.

and obi wan knows this. he’s looking at anakin right now. he sees his face without the mask.

took a fever nap and had a dream of a saiki k universe and im about to explain it and it absolutely doesnt make sense bare with me

it was like a post apocalyptic au where esp and stuff we would think was weird were normal and it was basically like.. saiki k if nobody had to hide the weird parts of themselves i guess ??

saiki was like a silly mad scientist because with his esp being out in the open and somewhat normal, he would do experiments and stuff ?? i think i realized like halfway through the dream that i was basically making him princess bubblegum, like this literally took place in adventure time but he ruled the candy kingdom for some reason ?? and was a silly king and crazy scientist but still very kusuo in his personality, he just wasnt hiding his unhingedness and cockiness and people treated him like a god

teruhashi was courting him and trying to become his queen and he was like "im basically a god, and you think youre worthy to stand by my side because youre, what? pretty?" and she was like "im not just PRETTY, im the most perfect beautiful girl in the WORLD." and kusuo handed her some chemicals or something and was like "go blow something up and then come back" and she came back and threw scraps of a candy house onto his floor and he was like "...whose house was that?" and she went "yours." and he was all impressed ☠️

i specifically remember kuboyasu and kaido saying to him at some point "you can be pretty scary sometimes, you know?" and he went "im not SCARY, im a SCIENTIST. what you two are scared of, is reality." and i think that was a really good line for a literal fever dream

thinking about how arthur shoved a dagger into his own throat to save john from the king because john's his friend and he loves him. and then when arthur finally collapses beneath all of that pain and grief and guilt he's carried for years john saves him from being buried and then saves his life in the mines and arthur believes it's because john feels the same. they're friends and they love each other so of course. of course you would do anything to save the one you love.

so he trusts him. he trusts him all the way to new york and doesn't think for a moment that there could be something amiss. that john, his best friend who killed the last person he loved and whom he himself almost willingly died for, is lying to him. again.

vader's skeletal mask is so awful at night, the whole sweeping, looming expanse of him really, and i can totally understand why ewan said that he was legitimately scared on set when he saw him lmao it's just so viscerally satisfying to see vader be the villain he has the capacity to be, this scene, like the hallway in rogue one, is an essential example of vader at his apex (or nadir, arguably) as a pitiless killing machine, a predator who scarecely registered that anyone else's life had any value or their suffering any importance, and it's exactly right in being so wrong haha

i saw someone say something like "maybe in another universe they protected each other" about the roomies and i dont think that could be more wrong. even if they weren't successful, they did everything they could.

etho used both of his lives to help his team by running away. he is a runner and by god he will do what he knows how to in service of those who cared.

cleo isnt as obvious. she's used to being betrayed at this point, so her support for her team is subtle but there in her actions. early season she funnels hearts to her teammates. they stick together, and after etho dies she's trying again and again to make sure her remaining teammate doesnt die trying to defend her.

grian, in his own words, goes anyway the wind blows. not this time. this time, his final life is spent kicking and screaming, fighting like a cornered dog to survive. to stall. if cleo can have one more breath, one minute closer to living, anything, he would surrender his hearts as a human shield.

they were all loyal until their deaths, contrary to past seasons. they learned how to protect for their team. it didn't work, but god did they try.
