They wake one after the other, Joe surfacing into the lazy heat of the afternoon before Nicky, drowsy and pleased by opportunity to simply watch his beloved for a moment. Nicky’s hand rests against the pillow, his palm open, and Joe can’t help but reach up and trace a circle there with his fingertip. Nicky grumbles softly, and Joe does it again, traces a line from Nicky’s heartline to his wrist, skimming over his pulse point and down his forearm.

“You are a menace,” Nicky offers, his voice rough and his eyes still closed.

“I am,” says Joe, delighted.

There is no one whom Joe loves more than this man; no one with whom he would rather spend time. There is certainly no one better, he thinks, to curl up with on a lazy afternoon in a small, stone house in Malta; no one he would rather watch blink awake, pouting just a little, a sleepy grouchy Nicky from whom he must steal a kiss.

“Is this why you woke me?” asks Nicky as Joe pulls away just a little.

“To kiss you?” Joe asks.

“Hmm.”

Joe smiles. “I think perhaps I wanted to see the color of your eyes,” he says. “And the way the corner of your mouth twitches when you’re pleased.”

“Ahhh.” Nicky’s mouth does, indeed, twitch.

“So predictable,” Joe says, grinning now.

“For my sins,” Nicky says, smiling up at him, reaching to curl a hand around the back of his neck to pull him down into a kiss.

fic prompts

i've been at a small 18+ con all weekend, and did a lot of browsing on my phone. it was kinda dead. anyway, there was a fic prompt i saw earlier today, but i wasn't going to try to write something on my phone. that would be ridiculous. so, now that i'm back home, and got a couple hours in tonight, here goes.

the prompt was (i hope i'm remembering this right) someone says they're besotted with you. sorry, i don't remember who suggested the prompt.

this fits into the fic i've been writing for the past few weeks. i applied to a03 about a week ago, and the notification said the application would be processed sometime mid-december. so, i'll put up some stuff here. this is pretty tame, more fluff than anything.

i haven't done fic writing in literally 25 years, so i'm rusty. and, i know i have a problem with verb/noun agreements, and switching noun tenses. expect grammar errors, as i'm writing this on the fly.

Hwa was covered in dust and grime from spending much of the day inventorying resources for their home. They'd just gotten back with a large haul from recent surveying, and she wanted to make sure that they had enough raw materials to get the workshop built. Plus, Cora wanted to decorate her room more.

She heard a box fall, then felt warm breath on her neck and laughed. "You don't want to touch me. I'm grimy and gross, and probably smell pretty bad. There's no ventilation in here."

Sam rested his head on her shoulder, "you look fine to me."

"I don't think where you're looking is where I've gotten dirty," she gave him a cross-wise look. "Anyway, what's in the box?"

"Would you believe more books?" he said. "Cora has gotten into Jane Austen now." The look he made was a mix of confusion and disgust.

"Not a fan of Ms. Austen, I take it?" Hwa asked.

Sam shrugged, "too much Mr. Darcy and Miss Not-Rich-Enough making eyes at each other for too long. Just wanted them to get in on and stop wasting time"

"Personally, I prefer Sense and Sensibility, anyway," Hwa said.

Sam was standing behind her when he got an idea. He started to walk his fingers up her spine. He knew there was a spot in the middle of her back that contained a bundle of nerves. Poke her there, and she would fall over. But touch the area with the softest caress, and it was like a switch.

Hwa felt his fingers climb up her back, and tensed herself. The storage room was neither romantic, nor comfortable, and she felt gross. Instead of a caress, she felt her back get poked, her knees crumpled, and she fell backwards. But instead of hitting the floor, she felt Sam swoop her up in his arms at the last minute, and get carried out of the storage room.

He placed her gently on the ground in front of the porch of the hab, pushing his body up against hers. "You still look beautiful," he said, brushing some dirt from her face.

Hwa laughed, "Is our young Mr. Darcy besotted with the lady he finds before him?"

"Mr. Darcy is about to show you how besotted he is," Sam growled in her ear. He picked her up in his arms again and carried her into the hab.
