I’m tired and delirious and maybe I can explain more thoughts later but… the Viva Las Vengeance music video had a lot of echoes of other stuff in it, primarily stuff from Dallon Weekes. I’m not super deep into the IDKHOW lore and I’ve only recently started listening to Brobecks, but I’ve seen a few videos and I know their basic theme.
So we’ve got the Razzmatazz colors. The 70s/80s vibes. That intro. I saw a white mask appear several times and immediately thought of our good friend The White Shadow. We’ve got the line about not wanting to kill the DJ (another tumblr post pointed this out) and the line about having his favorite song stolen was interesting.
So this could all be a stretch but I’m curious so if other have more knowledge of band lore than I do please tell me this could be fun.

Band Lore is Hilarious (/positive)
Band lore is inherently hilarious. No, because hear me out on this. Because when you think about it, somewhere, somehow, the conversation goes "Do you want to start a band?" Like you could be vampires from the year 3000 and you traveled back in time to stop the invention of smart toasters because it started some world-ending war. And somewhere you go "Hey let's start a band!" It can also be the most serious, intricate thing, with so many albums and appearances building up this lore. And again, somewhere in there is just "Hey let's start a band!" as a result of said lore. Listen as someone who is getting their degree in English (Creative Writing Major), Band lore is one of those things that always puts a smile on my face. Your music might not even be to my tastes but damn if I'm not doing an analysis of just how deep the lore goes. (Look I also follow video games for the same reason without playing them. You got some good/interesting lore? Shit man, I'm in!) Like one of my favorite bands of all time has this lore where it's like Tron and Ready Player One shook hands with the world-building. And their protagonist is some kind of sentient code that helps save the digital and real world and after all that's done and they get to the real world, it comes down to "Hey we save the world and all, let's officially start a band!" Don't get me wrong, I love this band to pieces and their story/world-building is a lot of fun. But when you break it down like that, once again it proves the point that band lore is hilarious. (Smash Into Pieces btw, go give them a listen) If you want a more well-known example, the band Ghost has their world, and their lore so well thought out, with different acts happening on stage, and in their albums and it is so well thought out. It's honestly is so interesting to listen to as folks piece together their story. And again, we see the whole "let's start a band to spread our message about the church/religion!" Which, don't get me wrong, I know that's a thing people do because music is one of the universal languages, despite it being made in so many different ways. But when we take all that out and see the story folks are building behind their band, the reason why they have these costumes or motifs. And that kind of thing, when broken down all the way into simple terms, it's kinda funny and I absolutely adore it. Just another way of storytelling and having a good time that gets a chuckle or two out of me.

Had a silly dream where JD and Floyd came back to the troll tree before the last trollstice but after singing killed their grandma and decided to doodle and expand upon it a bit
Clay never left the tree but was too scared to return to the families pod since he didn’t want things to go back to how they were before, he did try to find his brothers during the escape but got separated by the cave in.
John Dory was the one to find Clay and see him get caught by the cave in, when he came out of the tunnel without Clay and holding his wristband they all just assumed he was dead. Even so JD still searches for Clay with the hope that he might’ve escaped and is alive out there.
They know Bruce is alive but after JD got the post card he assumed Bruce didn’t want to be found
Some more doodles that kind of show their dynamic

Also-
JD always brings home souvenirs for the brothers both as an apology for being gone for so long and also because of this:

"We all briefly became drug addicts on this [album]. Except Bruce. He was the only guy I knew who never did drugs. He had his own vice, which was mentally beating the shit out of himself."
- Steve Van Zandt on the making of Darkness on the Edge of Town, from Unrequited Infatuations, 2021

I have a theory about the first song sung by the Papas characterizing them as characters.
Secondo's first concert song was "Secular Haze" - a song with a dark circus atmosphere, praising the Antichrist. As we know from Papaganda and interviews, he likes wigs, silly costumes and noisy parties, hiding his unhappiness behind this.
Terzo's first song was "From the Pinnacle to the Pit". His life path follows the path of Lucifer and Icarus, even the last word sung by him on his albums is "falling" ("Bible"). The higher one soars, the longer it takes to fall, the theme of hubris and the giddiness of success all reflect Terzo.
Copia's first song was "Rats" (acoustic performance). Rats prowl everywhere, small and inconspicuous, and bring death. I think he may have identified with death, as his reign began with the murder of the brothers. And as a bastard, he may have felt like a small animal, despised by all, but capable of revenge.

You know what. Why do we as a touhou fandom not talk about the fact the pc98 songs are canon. They exist. In canon. Akyuu has them documented and has probably heard them. Someone within touhou's universe wrote them. Reimu could probably actually listen to her own theme. Were the songs actually written about the events of those games?? Was eternal shrine maiden written about reimu?? Was love colored magic written about marisa?? I'm going insane

Thinking about the Abbey having its own glamor. To clergy members, it's stately, gorgeous. The grounds filled with manicured gardens and greenhouses, a hedge maze, immaculately maintained courtyards and stone paths. It's a a hulk of a building, a maze in and of itself. Wing after wing sprawling out into the grounds, with big stained glass windows and slate roofs, and big heavy wooden doors that shine in the sunlight. But to the uninitiated. The locals. The Christians. It's a ruin. The lake returning to swamp, filled with muck and weeds and monsterous rumors. The stone paths shot through with weeds. The gardens over flowing. The greenhouses just twisted metal and broken glass. And the Abbey? It's dangerous. The front door swings on it's hinges. There are gaps in the roof that let sunlight and rain and ivy in. Stained glass windows lay in shattered ruin on the chapel floor. Those sprawling wings are a mess of rotten wood, and crumbling stone. And if all of those things weren't enough to keep the riff-raff out, there are the rumors. The ghosts. The phantom hands on shoulders. The disembodied whispers. The shadows. The ghouls, always just out of sight. Protecting their home. Their people. And when fear isn't enough? When some humanity leans into that stupid bravery they're so proud of? Well, it's easy to make death look accidental in a place like this.
