Audrey Grace artdump! Lots of goodies here from as early as February. The last four are ballpoint pen/pencil doodles that were later fixed up digitally. I love my gurl and I love drawing her all different kinds of ways. I could keep drawing her until the day I die and then when I come back as a ghost I’ll draw her on your mirror.

WIP Character concept I gave up on; originally a physical sketch in ballpoint pen, edited and colored digitally in Krita.

I apologize for the weird artifacts and such from the base photo. I didn't feel like taking the time to fix those. My camera sucks, the lighting was bad, and, frankly, the editing process overall is hugely tedious and I just wanted to color. Some of the paper's texture is left in, though, and I like that.

Artblock has been killing me and y way of dealing with it includs sketching with a ballpoint pen, therefore making impossible to erase my mistakes on my base sketch. I did try to fix some of the bigger mistakes digitally though

saw the art tip that for practicing u should draw with a ballpoint/any non-erasable pen instead of pencil/eraser or digitally bc you don’t get stuck trying to fix mistakes and it’s so much more important to draw as much as possible instead of as perfectly as possible and honestly. this is the only thing that helped me combat my shitty perfectionism and actually got me to draw multiple things in one sitting instead of agonising over one drawing

How to train your hand

Sooo... I’m not dead, yay!!(●'◡'●)

I’m sorry for not being “present” these weeks but school sucks and I had tons of assignments to do... 

Anyways! What I noticed as soon as I rose from the dead, was a reblog of one of my previous posts of someone saying how difficult and overwhelming it is to draw digitally when you are so accostumed to drawing in traditional. This got me thinking that a lot of baby artists tend to have the same problems, even when they start to draw normally. So, I wanted to give some tips on how to train your hand to draw in different situations and materials! 

1. Sketchbooks (ONLY OF TRADITIONAL ARTISTS): okay, let me get this straight: your sketchbook is your training ground. This means, it has to be comfortable to draw into, but it must also be suitable for your artistic enhancement! So, choose a sketchbook that has papers made with materials that you are comfortable drawing on. It can be in spiral-form or bound (like, book-form), it doesn’t matter, it has to be comfortable for you. Here’s a tip: do not draw on ruled paper when you are starting to draw! Lined paper does not help your spatial reference or your anatomic study. Instead, you can use blank (even the printer ones!), dotted or squared (even if I don’t really like them either, because they make your drawing process a LOT more difficult) papers.

2. Ballpoint pen or pencil? (ONLY FOR TRADIOTIONAL ARTISTS) so, the eternal dilemma: is it better to use ballpoint pen or the normal pencil? for me, both are really good drawing materials. From my point of view, the ballpoint pen allows you to train your hand AND your brain without even realizing. In fact the ballpoint pen doesn’t allow you to erase, so you train yourself to fix errors without erasing and be more precise when you are drawing. On the other hand, the pencil enables you to work on your skills without the fear of making mistakes. So, what I suggest, is an healthy use of both so that you can use pencils to make precise works and ballpoint pens to doodle on your sketchbook.

3. Be constant (DIGITAL/TRADITIONAL ARTISTS): repeat after me: training is gaining! This means that through constant exercising you will be able to impove in your art very fast! Think of your artistic skills as if they were a muscle such as the ones you use to bike. If you learn how to bike but don’t exercise yourself for a long period of time, you will always know the theory and the base concepts, but your muscles won’t support the activity as long as they would if you did it every day! The same concept can be seen in the artistic world, but in this case the muscle is your brain! If you train your bain to do some gesture or draw in some specific way every day at leat for 10 or 15 minutes, you will be able to improve in your art in a very short period of time!

4. This also means: Do not rush! (DIGITAL/TRADITIONAL ARTISTS): Improvement will be seen, but you have to be patient and give you and your hand some time. Great artists are not the ones that improve faster, but the ones that have strong bases. There is no simple way, no tutorial that will help you become Leonardo Da Vinci in two days. My art journey is still on process, as the one of everybody, and to arrive to the point I am here now, I had to train myself for eight years.😊💕

Hi there! Sorry if this is a weird question, but I was wondering if you possibly have any advice or tips on how to paint with watercolors? I really love how your watercolor pieces look, and I was just passed down some paints from a relative and I don't really know what I'm doing with them since I've always used markers or done digital art. 😅

Aww thank you~♡ um... well Im no teacher but I suppose I do have some tips when using watercolors i can share

Tip 1: Don't be afraid to throw on some colors.

You'll be surprised what colors actually look good together. Working with green? Use blues and purples for shading. Wanna shade yellow without looking messy? Use pink instead of browns and golds. Watercolors are pretty forgiving on that front, so don't be afraid to experiment with color combinations.

Down below i used blue for shading Sho's brown hair because they're surprisingly both complimentary colors. (Orange and blue contrast heavily but brown is dull enough not to mess with your eyes)

Tip 2: Layers, Layers and more Layers

With watercolors, you're working with a very light medium so you'll need to layer the colors over and over to make the colors opaque. This means you can color a vague portion of the drawing and then use layers to clean up the drawing later on.

It'll be scary at first but you'll get the hang of it. (Just don't make your first watercolor art something too serious, I learned that the hard way lol)

Tip 3: Using other art mediums WITH you watercolors.

When i use watercolors, there'll be some effects i can't get with just watercolors. I tend to go over certain details with (water-proof) inks, especially for characters eyes.

It be based on personal preference, but I tend to use a standard ballpoint pen when inking watercolor arts (if I ink at all lol) I also resort to using more opaque paints to fix certain mistakes or spots where I messed up layers.

Last tip: Paper matters...but not too much.

Its safe to say that watercolors need to have their own specific paper, but in all honesty, I never bothered with the details. Any standard watercolor sketchbook/pad will work just fine as long as you don't add too much water (and for the most part, you won't need alot of water)
