Fremont + Bale Breaker Cultivision Cold IPA (Picked up at Windmill Farms). A 3 of 4. One of the better cold IPAs I've had (I’m counting IPLs in this category, too -- given the variation, I'm not sure there is a real difference). Mostly pine and resin in the nose and a lighter body. Has some definite lager yeast notes and a light grain sweetness mid-body. Relatively highly carbonated, as things go.

A collaboration between Yakima Chief Hops, Bale Breaker Brewing, and Alaska Air; Maui Brewing Company releases Hop Cargo Fresh Hop IPA.

Kihei, Hawaii (October 20, 2022) – Now available in Maui Brewing Company’s Kihei restaurant location, Hop Cargo Fresh Hop IPA. This fresh-hopped beer was made through an epic collaboration with Bale Breaker Brewing Company, Yakima Chief Hops, and Alaska Air, providing the opportunity to brew with wet hops for the first time in MBC history. 

The window to start brewing with fresh hops, as opposed to dried hops, is incredibly short. So short in fact that fresh-hopped beers are typically only made by breweries in close proximity to a hop farm. For this project and with the help of Alaska Airlines Air Cargo, both Maui Brewing Company and Alaska’s 49th State Brewing were able to receive a bulk shipment of fresh hops in under 24 hours from when they were picked at Loftus Ranches in Yakima, Washington.

Upon landing at Maui’s Kahului Airport and going through Hawaii's Department of Agricultural inspection, this shipment of hops went straight to the Kihei brewery where the MBC brew team was ready and waiting to start brewing. (Photo source: Ingrid Barrentine / Alaska Airlines)

The India Pale Ale boasts juicy, pine, and stone fruit aromas with sweet malt and subtle, pleasant bitterness to bring balance to the gutsiest hops. The beer has an ABV of 7.2% with 30 IBUs.

Hop Cargo Fresh Hops IPA is currently available on draft at MBC Kihei and will be arriving soon to MBC restaurant locations in Lahaina, Kailua, and Waikiki.

Personally, I think that c!Sam's shovel and hoe were probably just intended as tools rather than weapons. That doesn't mean that they were never used as weapons, he could've brought them along to the prison with the intent to use them, but I guess I see it as more of a symbolic thing? He's finally stepping up. Ever since Tommy's death, Sam has felt like a failure of a warden, and now Quackity is prompting him to jump back into the role with both feet—and a warden needs all of his equipment, right? It would be unprofessional not to. He can't get caught off guard again. (Even if he knows that this stuff will probably never get used.)

But anyway, Sam's naming seems to follow his usual trend of grandiose righteousness—Warden's Will, Mercy, etc. The only real exception is Warden's Torment; that one really sticks out as dark and violent in contrast to his arguably worse sword, which is just his "will". Even Warden's Will Breaker doesn't have to be interpreted as sinister if you're seeing it through Sam's eyes; the will is only being broken as a necessary step, a means to an end, not out of cruelty.

So with a shovel and a hoe, things that aren't explicitly meant as weapons, I feel like Sam would continue to name them something grandiosely righteous. Your ideas of Warden's Generosity, Hospitality, Favor are nice—also maybe something like Warden's Gift or Bounty. These tools are intended to create life, not destroy it.

There's some scattered thoughts of mine anyway, I hope they make sense because I just. Have not slept. Behold my essay.

Oh 100%. Well said. It is for sure more symbolic and you never know what obstacles you might face as a Warden. Especially in a place with such mining fatigue, having the proper tool is important. I mean we all saw what Dream did in manhunt using hay bales to trap everyone in the water temple, an Efficiency IV netherite hoe would have been very useful then. He’s on a mission to kill Dream and this is right after a security issue, for him to be over prepared for anything makes sense. Whether or not he intended to use them for more cruel reasons is certainly debatable.

Still it is fun to think about. And I have always interpreted Dream’s line to Foolish - “Sam, you know, let him in the prison, let him bring in tools—and shears, and they tried to torture the revive book out of me…” - as making all Minecraft tools fair game, because why not? If shears, why not a shovel or hoe? A sharp edge is a sharp edge after all.

Regardless, Wardens Bounty has a good ring to it, yea you know what I’m gonna dub Sam’s Hoe with Efficiency IV, Fortune III, Mending and Unbreaking III as Wardens Bounty and Sam’s Shovel with Efficiency IV, Fortune III, Mending and Unbreaking III as Wardens Favor

sharp halo

"Sharp Halo" is (was? will be?) a Hyper Light Drifter fic. The title comes from the extremely geometric shape of the halo that appears around the Jackal's head in cutscenes - however the Drifter himself would be sporting such a halo for Plot Reasons.

Moving towards her – she dove aside on the platform behind a loading device to avoid it – a mass of darker-than-black shot through with venomous pink tore past her up the stairs. A light chased it. No, Light chased it. She caught a glimpse of the Drifter sprinting and bounding up the side of the stair wall after it; a vicious glow obscured his form. A sharp-edged, diamond-shaped halo surrounded him. So bright it dazed her as he passed.

"Light", the Drifter, absorbs the entirety of the Immortal Cell's power, but ends up becoming an entirely different person as a result. The planning for this one got away on me; I liked the implication in some of HLD's supplemental stuff that there are figures that align with the Major Arcana of the Tarot. I wanted to run with that idea and have these figures exist as archetypes that a being can ascend to and become, and have the fic explore the gamut of baleful and benevolent archetypes that the Drifter, Alt Drifter (POV in above snippet), and Guardian have to deal with.

I loosely plan to revisit this one some day but for now the project planning is too sprawling to be manageable, and I might want to wait for the release of Hyper Light Breaker for more inspiration.

God, his Ma was going to kill him.  She had just gotten the grease stains out from these pants, large hand prints dragged down the side of his thigh, and here they were again.   He didn’t mean to, it was just when he was in the belly of the beast, his mind occupied in pieces and parts and how they’re failing to work together, he forgets about the rag tucked in his pocket, and all he can think of to fix his grip is a quick swipe on the pants.  But to be honest, he was tired enough he was falling straight into bed, she might not even see him until dinner tomorrow, depending what shifts she was working.  His mind sluggishly moved through a to do list as he moved through the streets lined with all different kinda of mills on his way home, eyes mostly trained towards the ground. To be honest, he had realized a couple months ago after he had been promoted, that a surprising amount of mothers of girls from his class in school had a habit of 'bumping into him', giving them an excuse to lavish praise upon their daughters, so he generally made a habit of keeping his head on a swivel. But after almost 16 hours working on a bale breaker, he was exhausted, and had stopped paying attention.

And as he did, in fact, bump into someone, he cursed himself, struggling to find his manners and plaster on a cumbersome smile. All attempts dropped as he realized exactly who it was he bumped into. Sterling may have been a quiet man, but he was rarely speechless.

Tilerassic 80-82 million years

Image 1 top left:  Guttiles a relatively new species evolving 50,000 years ago are a species of Dwarf Notptor native to the Soup, Only slightly larger than their ancestors the Guttiles are far more cooperative than their ancestors living in family groups comprising of a mated pair and a few generations of their offspring. Typically the oldest offspring and their father will go out to hunt and that is where their name sake comes from, their hunting is brutal. Typically they will dig their dens near a colonial ground wasp colony but still a safe distance away as not to attract the bugs from their scent. Much like their ancestor the Guttiles will go after the grubs in a colony as they are not big enough to go after a worker or soldier with a hardened carapace. But their diets have changed rather lately, the Vul a ethnic group of the Hell-Breakers make their living in the Soup by trading with the few Ool merchant ships that pass through, the Guttiles often sneak onto these ships and feed on any cargo they find. As of now three species of Guttile exist, A small species known as the Gutting Tile which is a species that reproduces quickly and swarms it’s prey ripping chunks off which includes lone Vul. 

Image 1 Top right: Red Rippers the ancestor to all Hell-Breakers were nearly wiped out a matter of decades ago in Hell-Breaker recorded history. However with the threat of their Hell-Breaker descendants gone at least on Spriterra the population has made a come back with only a population of one hundred during the war they now have a couple hundred and have established themselves as the apex predators on Spriterra. 

Image 1 bottom: The Tundra Warden a subspecies of Tundra Notptor and the heaviest in it’s family weighing up to 800 pounds these giants live mostly solitary lives patrolling a territory that can span as much as 25 miles. Highly aggressive to any carnivore that threatens its main food source, a basal species of Rison known as the Stumblehog. But what makes it’s dynamic with it’s food source is more than a predator-prey relationship, The Warden keeps small herds in valleys where they graze at the vegetation there or if there is none the Warden will drag  bales of vegetation to the herd for them to eat, ever couple weeks the warden will go into the ditch or ravine and kills the fattest hog in there. When mating season comes around the Wardens will gather as much vegetation for it’s flock as it can and drop off in the ravine then using it’s strength it will cover the ravine in logs from a nearby forest where it will then leave it’s herd in search of a mate. The courtship between these giants is surprisingly gentle with the male performing an elaborate dance to the female for a few days before she decides to mate with him. While the female builds her nest and watches over her eggs the male will go back to his territory to bring members of his flock to her to eat. But once the eggs hatch the hormones that suppress both of their inter species violence will vanish and the male and female will tolerate each other until the fledgelings are weaned off of chewed up meat and can hunt on their own even if they stay with their mother for a few years. Though despite all that the male will often return to the same female when she is done raising his fledgelings. 

Image 2 Top Left: The Hell-Dozer is a suffalo species that has a rather distinct and odd adaptation, the formation of a keratin horn much like a rhino. This odd headgear was formed from a mutation of an individual with small spikes on his face which had helped him survive being able to pierce the hides of predators that attacked him, now his descendants spikes are either fused or have lengthen into curved or surprisingly sword like protrusions. The Hell-Dozer is the biggest species standing eight feet at the shoulder and weighing half a ton. A single large male watches over a herd of females about twenty or twenty five with a near endless vigilance. Males of the species are highly aggressive and when they control a herd they turn even more aggressive. If the male suspects one of the females in his herd has mated with another male he will brutalize her with jabs of his horn and harsh bites with his powerful jaws, and if she lays eggs or has a few yearlings who he suspects also aren't his he will trample them and leave them for scavengers. Though his rule is a double edged sword if the females sense he becoming weak they will either kill him or drive him out and look for a stronger male. 

Image Two top right: The Grid Tail Snuffler is a basal species of Suffalo native to the Sala continent. Much like it’s ancestors it lives in small herds with a male leading it though much less ruthlessly than the Hell-Dozer. Eating fungus, berries (If they can get to them), and various ferns they also oppertunislcley will eat  insects which are quite numerous in the humid climate of Sala. 

Image Two bottom: A very basal in it’s group the Samole is a small Saltile that ancestors were the direct ancestors of the Suffalo, while it does share traits with it’s distant cousins it lacks the blunt rhino like feet having more thicker and slightly curled claws which it uses to dig tunnels that can stretch for miles. Feeding on roots, insects, and occasanley feeding on the eggs of other Saltiles or even on the pups of rats. 

Image Three Left: The banded Gorgon Mander is a lighty built species of Gorgon Mander that lives on the Savannah of Sala these fast paced predators much like their ancestors are solitary and seeking companionship from the descendants of Juggernaut Beetles. Having multiple valves in their hearts this aids them in sprinting after prey, though they have low stamina they can reach a staggering 50 miles per hour but some longer legged individuals can reach 60-70 miles per hour.

Image three right: The Gorging Hell-Mander is a large Gorgon Mander native to nearly every part of Sala. Though residing inland and away from the beaches this giant predator as come into contact with the Hell-breakers and has developed a taste for them. Bold, strong, and a scaly hide that most weapons can’t pierce this bear analogue will fearlessly charge into a village to feed on the inhabitants, all the Hell-Breakers can really do is get to the high ground as the Hell-Mander has bad traction on steep hills. 

If you loved Thor Love & Thunder, it's cool and great. You don't need to read ahead. But as far as my own opinion goes, it was absolutely the worst MCU movie of recent years.

Here's the thing, Ragnarok is in my top 3 favourite MCU movies and Jojo Rabbit is one of my most favourite movies of all time and so I love Taika Waititi to bits. So pardon me if I don't understand how could he make something like this.

He had everything to make this movie another masterpiece like Ragnarok. He had the full creative freedom, the mighty Thor plot ( which I loved btw but hated how poorly executed it was), he got Natalie Portman back, he had Christian Bale, he had the opportunity to throw in as many gay references he can and yet the movie was a complete disaster.

Now, I am not hating on the movie for the ridiculousness or its colour. Rather I am hating because the whole plot progression was a mess. Every single joke was stretched too far. The comedy was often unnecessary and Taika didn't let any emotional plot to build up even for a minute. Every single emotional aspect was ridiculed. Christian Bale was amazing as Gorr but his moments were damped by some unnecessary comedy, the moment it started gaining momentum. Natalie as Mighty Thor was amazing but her plot too was underutilized and felt very vague. Taika had an amazing Thor character at hand, probably the best Thor we had in years, the one Taika made himself and got better in Infinity war and End game. He was depressed, he was trying to find himself and then he met his ex whom he really loved and now she's got his hammer. Taika had all the elements to make it amazing. Instead all I got is 2.5 hours of SNL level comedy skit where Thor tried to convince Strom breaker that he is over Mjolnir.

I am disappointed as hell. I was expecting a wacky, colourful, fun, peak comedy movie but I was not expecting an absolutely rubbish, B-grade comedy movie. Taika needs to learn that comedy sometimes need to be reined in even in a comedy movie so that the plot can shine. If every single moment is intended to be comedic, it's not a comedy movie, it's just a Skit. Also I am convinced Tom Hiddleston /Loki could have made this movie better somehow. Man I miss him.
