Masterlist
Summary: Having her friend turn up at her front door is unexpected, but it turns into Em getting to see her first two Formula One races in person, including seeing Dan win in Monaco. It’s what happens after that win that’s going to change her life.
World Count: 6.5k
Warnings: smut 18+ only! (PIV sex, oral (m and f receiving), thigh riding, fingering, handjobs, tattoos as a form of foreplay).

May 2018
If you asked Em why she kept texting Dan even though they rarely saw each other, she couldn’t fully tell you. He was sweet and their constant texts and memes were fun, and he was a good guy to hang out with. The whole wanting to sleep with him thing was a little awkward, but she decided to just keep her distance and be his friend. He was worth having a friendship with. But the one thing that didn’t change was how she acted with him. It didn’t matter to her what his job was or that he had a Wikipedia page and verified social media accounts. He was constantly busy but their texts kept flowing, calling him Dimples and sending photos of the coffee shops she worked from or songs she thought he’d like.
In return he sent the same, but from his side it was photos of racetracks and testing days to her. She grinned at him and his friend Max squinting into a sunny selfie in Barcelona, discovering the gangly teen was some kind of wonder kid. The only thing that had changed in their texting routine was that she had stopped trying to text when he was in the car. Instead her brand new Sky Sports subscription had the F1 channel on whenever he was driving. She’d learned how it all worked even though she’d never watched a race in her life. It was for Dan.
Even with their near daily phone conversations they didn’t get to see each other in person. She’d run into Blake in the hallway or on the stairs in his rare moments home and has an a chat, Blake telling her Dan said hi. Their friendship survived on FaceTime and texting and it was fine. Her heart didn’t flutter every time she saw his sleepy face on the phone screen. There was just no time between his schedule and travelling and her clients for them to be in the same city for more than a few hours.
Em hated it. She hated the fact that he was always away, just like she hated how she and Blake had gotten dinner twice since they met because of how he was working and it sucked. But it was worse with Dan, somehow. She watched races with rapt attention when he had the DNF in Bahrain, she’d been up at ridiculous times in the morning to see him win in China. She’d been on the couch watching when Max drove into him in Baku and she hated that she wasn’t there for her friend. Em stared at her phone, willing a direct flight to Baku to emerge, but there was nothing. By the time the connecting flights would get in he’d have to leave. It wasn’t fair.
Dan didn’t sound the same over texts and he didn’t want to FaceTime with her so Em knew there was something really wrong. The next few days he barely replied to her messages and by Friday night she was so worried.
Saturday morning she knew he was at least in the UK, and Em kept typing “do you want to get coffee?” over and over again, trying to convince herself to send it. But then there were three soft knocks on her front door. She nearly missed them but Em couldn’t mistake the curly hair she saw out of the peephole as she checked before opening the door. He was there with two bags in his hands, water running down his face from the rain outside. In one hand he had a bottle of red wine, the other a bag from the bakery he’d bought stuff from her before. That’s how she knew things were complicated.
She never expected Dan to come to talk to her about his work, she’d needed him to explain how so much of it worked time and time again. But here he was on the first Saturday in May, apologising that he hadn’t even texted to make sure she was home. They both felt out of place. Dan had shown up without even sending a text and Em felt like a disaster. It was a busy week, her apartment needed to be cleaned, and she was still in her pjs. He’d only ever seen her dressed up for something going on or at least with foundation on when they were on FaceTime. Instead she had a messy bun and an oversized t-shirt on with a pair of cycling shorts showing half of her thigh tattoo.
“I’m sorry, I should have called-“
“You’re fine, it’s good, come in. The place is a mess, ignore it. I’m gonna get changed.”
“Emmy, you’re fine. I’m the one who turned up at your door. Point me at your coffee, I’ll make some while you change?”
It wasn’t much of a difference but she brushed out her hair and put a bra on, joggers and a hoodie making her feel semi human. By the time she was back Dan had two coffees on the coffee table, massaging his shin after hitting it. There was a slice of lemon drizzle cake beside her coffee, and a stack of papers in front of Dan.
“What’s going on? I’m really glad you’re here, I wanted to see you, but this doesn’t seem like you. What’s up?” She asked after small talk and Dan talking about how his win in China felt. And that’s when he opened up, taking her hand in his large, warm one and squeezing while he spoke.
Red Bull didn’t feel like somewhere he could stay anymore. His contract was nearly up, and he knew they were going to make Max the number one driver over him. He was better than being a number two, he’d put so much work into everything and getting it right. He didn’t want to give up. There were teams out there who wanted him. Ferrari had reached out to Blake about maybe wanting him.
“Not that Ferrari is gonna happen. Seb’s warned me about what it’s like there. But if Ferrari want me?”
“Let me get glasses.” It was noon, it was Saturday, it was socially acceptable to drink. She stood up and pulled two vaguely matching wine glasses from the cupboard, setting them down and opening the bottle of - of course Australian - red that Dan had brought with him. He raised an eyebrow.
“This conversation needs alcohol. You’re the one who brought the wine. What do you want to do?” She took a sip and frowned, Dan looking at her.
“I will find a wine you like. Don’t tell Mike about the cake, yeah?”
“What cake?”
“Exactly. What do you think I should do, Wrinkles?”
Em rolled the question around for a moment before she realised there was one thing she needed to know before she could help him.
“Why are you asking me?”
They were friends, yeah. Good friends who texted every day and FaceTimed and she congratulated him. She was the first person he called after he won in China, something she never expected. But she knew nothing about the ins and outs of Formula One. She didn’t know the way that world worked, and she didn’t know what Dan was potentially moving towards. He had to make the decisions for himself or he’d never forgive her. Em couldn’t think of a much worse fate than Dan blaming her for the demise of his career.
“You…this sounds shitty. I know it does. But Blake and Mike have a loyalty to my career, not just to me. To me making the most money and making things secure. And yeah, Red Bull can give me a load of money. But you don’t have that. You don’t treat me any differently because of my job. You don’t know the politics and the ins and outs of everything, and that means I can trust you on it. You know me, Emmy. And right now I need someone who will look at just me and believe in me to give me advice, not someone who gets the big picture.” He squeezed the hand he was still holding as he spoke, Em squeezing back just as hard.
“Ok. What do you want to do?”
“Christian expects—“
“No, Dan. What do you want to do?”
“Huh?” His brow furrowed in confusion, making Em smile.
“What do you want to do? Not what I want to do, not Christian or Blake or Michael. What do you want to do? You’re the one who will be in that car. Will you be happy as a number two at Red Bull? Or do you want to see what else is out there?” She was sincere as she spoke, Dan’s eyes brightening as he listened to what she was saying.
“Will you still be there? If I change teams and make the wrong decisions and fuck it up, will you still be there?”
“I’m not going anywhere. You’re one of my best friends already, Dimples.”
He squeezed her hand to pull her into a hug on the couch. Em melted into Dan’s arms, holding him tightly and feeling the strength holding her to him.
“Come to a couple of races? Everyone comes to Monaco anyway, you need to be there. But come to Barcelona too. It’ll be fun, and you can see exactly what my job involves. I’d love to show you around the place.”
“I can’t just-“
“Please, Wrinkles? I think you‘ll have fun. I’ll make sure you have space in the garage to watch the races.
She couldn’t argue with Dan, nodding and agreeing. Barcelona was a dream. Blake met her at the airport with a hug, laughing as she got off the flight with her carry on and nothing else.
“I got you a Red Bull hat. Figured you’d need to wear something team gear wise.”
“Fair, fair.” She had the hat on the entire time she was in the paddock, her pass firmly around her neck. Dan introduced her to his coworkers, the mechanics and everyone who was on his side of the garage. He also introduced her to the other driver, Max, barely in his twenties and looking so young even to Em.
“Nice to meet you.” She shook his hand and he grinned, looking even younger.
“You too. I gotta go.”
It was nods to the bosses who were there, Em trying to stay out of the way as she put a set of headphones on and listened. Watching Dan cross the finish line was exhilarating, especially in fifth place.
“Next podium is for you, Wrinkles,” he said the next morning as she got ready to fly back to London.
“Get it for yourself, Dan.”
“I have enough. This one will be for you.”
She’d planned on working out flights and staying in Nice to save money, but Dan rejected that straight away. He’d invited her, he was paying. Em didn’t know how to say know to him really. She’d try but his eyes would light up and he’d smile widely and she was a goner when he did something like that. Instead she nodded and agreed with him. Blake appeared at her front door with the envelope containing her flight and hotel details. He didn’t know how close she and Dan had become, how much time they spent talking at ridiculous hours of the day and night.
“Dan said you’re coming to Monaco too?” He was almost surprised and Em nodded.
“Yeah. He told me all his friends come to Monaco, he wants me to be there too.” Calling each other friends felt stupid but it was mostly accurate. Mostly. Not that Em hadn’t stared at the way his undershirt had clung after the race, sweat soaked but looking so good.
“I’m glad! It’ll be nice to have you there, it was fun in Barcelona. I think this year it’s just his parents coming over. He deserves having support at a race.”
It was a full week in Monaco, flying out on the Wednesday before the race and staying for a few days after. Dan had promised to bring her across the border into Italy so they could get really good pasta and she was a sucker for that opportunity. Her clients knew that she was going away and once her out of office was on it was time to go. She couldn’t wait. Dan met her at the airport and they waited for his parents to arrive as well. He made sure she was comfortable with everything going on, Em pulled into a hug from his parents and introducing herself as “I’m Dan’s friend. I live beside Blake in London.”
Her paddock pass hung around her neck as she was there every single day for media and practices, watching the well oiled Red Bull machine get the two identical cars ready to go out. The one thing she didn’t expect was for the flirting that she and Dan usually did over FaceTime to get even more explicit in person. He kept a hand on her waist in hospitality when they were alone, keeping his hand there when he introduced her to his team principal and his wife - and laughing at how Em forced herself to stay calm while being introduced to a fucking Spice Girl.
“You should have warned me!” Em whispered harshly when they were apart, looking at Dan’s grin.
“I drove the car at their wedding, she’s just Geri. I’m assuming that was a big deal?”
“I cried when she left that band. Sobbed, Daniel.”
Whenever they were beside each other for meals his hand was on her thigh or her back, watching as she had conversations with his friends. Scotty was a snowboarder dating another driver’s sister, so he spent part of the week with Dan and part of it with his girlfriend. Every night she had dinner with the group, hanging out with them and talking about what was happening. Joe gave her a crash course in what the Monaco Grand Prix meant and how Dan should have won two years before but had lost thanks to a bad pit stop.
“So if you’re not on pole you’re probably not going to win?” She asked, Joe nodding seriously.
“You can but it’s hard. There’s not a lot of overtaking space.”
She stood in the garage as the qualifying took place, watching the screens as Dan drove his car like a madman. He slipped into pole position after topping all three practices and Em wrapped him in a hug. She could feel the pride bursting out of her chest, watching as everyone else hugged and congratulated him.
“Told you, I’m winning this race for you tomorrow,” Dan murmured as she grabbed her bag to head back to the hotel.
“Dimples…”
“Seriously. When I’m on that podium I’m gonna tap my chest three times. When you see that you know it’s because I did it for you. Understand?”
“Do it for you.”
“I won China for me. This is for you.”
Em hugged him farewell before saying goodbye to everyone else, wandering the narrow streets back to her hotel. Everywhere she looked there were beautiful women, models wearing short skirts and fancy clothes while she was there in her Primark best. She felt so out of place, even in the paddock when she had her pass. Seeing the kind of girls Dan could go home with should have smothered her crush. Why would he choose her?
But then he did.
She was sandwiched between Blake and Grace for the entire race, holding Grace’s hand the whole time as the three of them and Joe stared at the screens. She watched as Vettel kept coming closer but Dan held him off, the radio she listened to clear that Dan’s car wasn’t driving how it should have been. He shouldn’t have held anyone off. But then she was getting pulled across the pit lane and to the wall by Michael, grabbing the metal railing and climbing to wave Dan in with everyone else. He’d fucking won. He did it.
The rest of the evening until the party was a blur to Em. She cried hearing the Australian anthem ring out over the podium, Grace and Joe holding onto her as Dan thumped his chest three times and grinned at her. He made the other drivers drink from his shoe and she groaned at the sight before he was back down with them, making sure she was coming to the party that night.
She could have blamed everything on the emotion of the win when it started that night. But it wasn’t just that. It wasn’t even mostly that. He’d been complimenting her and smiling at her most of the week, giving her the biggest hug in his champagne covered race suit as he lifted her up with his arms around her waist. She murmured how proud she was of him and he squeezed tighter. The grin he gave her from the swimming pool on the yacht as she snapped photos of his team in it with him because to quote the commentator, this was his redemption day. She got to watch him do it, but it was all him.
They made it to the party in a packed club, shots handed to each of them quickly. One of Max’s mechanics started trying to flirt with her but Dan saved her from that mess and pulled her onto the dance floor. At the start it was like the second night they’d met in January, friends dancing together. But drinks were flowing and she was pretty sure that Michael shot champagne into her mouth from a water gun at one point. The crowd made her move closer to Dan, and closer again. His hands went from high on her waist to further down, fingers clasping her hips.
She could feel how he brushed down slightly, right on the tops of her thighs and her body began to come alive. He moved so slowly, not letting his hands rest where Em knew he wanted them to until her fingers caught the curls on the nape of his neck. As soon as she dragged her nails lightly against his skin Dan moved his large hands, cupping her ass with them and pulling her against him in the dark corner they’d moved to.
Em stared into his eyes, tipsy but sober enough to know exactly what was happening and what she wanted and she could tell Dan was the same. All she wanted was to feel how his hands were against her without fabric in the way, how he’d touch her in bed. It wouldn’t take long to find out.
“Can I kiss you?” It was nearly sweet the way he asked, pushing a kiss below her ear to show his intent. She was so lucky the music was blaring, drowning out the moan she let out at his kiss for everyone except Dan. His eyes darkened as he looked at her while Em nodded frantically and pulled his head to hers to kiss him deeply. The moment he stopped he pulled her closer so he could get a better grip, continuing to make out with her. Once they were hidden away they didn’t need anymore words.
Everyone else in the club was too drunk to notice what was going on. She shouldn’t have expected anything else from a party with a free bar in Monaco, where trays of shots were passed around the room as if it was water. Em was so grateful for it because nobody was watching as the man of the hour hid in a dark corner and pulled her ever closer to him, hands tugging on her hair as he kissed her deeply. She didn’t want Dan’s coworkers commenting or Blake and their friends watching what was happening, that she was in Dan’s arms so quickly. But all of her doubts disappeared as his lips touched hers and she felt the way he wanted her. Every single touch lit her body on fire, his hands roaming her body keeping her close. She had never been the girl to ask someone to go home with her, never really even been the girl who went home with anyone. The moment she felt a bulge against her she pulled Dan even closer and forced herself even higher on her tiptoes in her heels.
“I want you, Dan. Can we get out of here?”
The decision about where to go was easy. Blake, Michael, and his parents were all staying in Dan’s apartment, her hotel room was just her. She had no intention of explaining why she was in the same clothes as the night before to them in the morning. Instead they half walked and half danced down the street to her hotel, Dan holding her hand and twirling her. Nobody paid attention to them except as drunk tourists, and Em wanted to scream “HE JUST WON THE MONACO GRAND PRIX WITH A BROKEN CAR” to the world.
It didn’t feel quite real that he was there with her. The most handsome man she’d ever seen had his arm around her, had asked her permission to kiss her, had nearly begged her when she asked if he wanted to leave the party with her. She was a normal person, his world was sparkly and shiny but he was there with her. Once they reached her room Dan gave her space to get the key out and open the door, but as soon as it was open he took control.
Any other night she would have been on her knees as soon as they were in private. She hadn’t stopped thinking about how good he smelled even when he was so sweaty, the way she wanted to lick up the side of his neck and taste all of him. But instead he had her half pinned against the wall, carefully undoing her dress zipper so he could pull it down. Her fingers got his shirt and jeans off, leaving Em in her underwear and heels as Dan kicked off his shoes. She felt nearly self conscious as he looked her up and down, eyes darkening with lust before he ran open mouthed kisses from one collarbone to the other via her breastbone, fingers lightly pinching at her nipples to make her moan for him.
“God you’re so pretty for me, Baby Girl,” he murmured. Em reached to pull him closer, arousal spinning through her.
“Dan, please. Please.” They twisted around so Dan could back her onto the bed, raising her legs and looking at her with hungry eyes.
“So pretty. Can I taste you?” Em didn’t trust herself to speak, nodding frantically. Dan knew exactly what she was offering, slipping calloused fingers around her thighs to spread them wide, taking in the damp spot showing on her underwear. He slid them slowly down her legs, heels dumped somewhere in the room before his fingers finally moved in and and touched her. And then Em was lost in sensations. She couldn’t tell what was going on, Dan’s fingers entering her as his tongue lapped against her clit, alternating flat and pinpoint strokes while she groaned against him. It never felt like this before.
He took a break and pushed kisses to her thighs, tongue tracing the outline of her tattoo. Em propping herself up on her elbows to see Dan’s flushed face. His beard was damp with wetness and she blushed.
“I’m ready, you don’t need to keep doing that.” It was like the atmosphere changed for a moment, Dan’s expression clouding before clearing.
“But you didn’t cum yet.”
“It doesn’t always happen. I’m having fun.”
“Oh Baby girl, no. Not happening. Plus, I won today. My prize is to get to taste just how good you are. I’ve been thinking about getting to lick this tattoo since that day in your apartment.” He didn’t give Em a warning before diving back in, determined to make her see stars.
The orgasm was quick and unexpected when it happened, that knot in her belly releasing as she chanted Dan’s name. Her hand pulled on his dark curls as he didn’t let up, keeping her pushed against him. Finally when she was slightly back to Earth she looked down at Dan between her thighs, self satisfaction on his face.
“Good?”
“You know it was. I want to return the favour.”
“It wasn’t a favour, Emmy. Plus, if I see you on your knees in front of me this is going to be over embarrassingly quick.” Dan leaned up to kiss her, pulling himself up to settle his hips between her thighs. She could taste herself on his lips, but more importantly it was Dan and he was right there with her.
“Are you sure?” He sounded uncertain and Em cupped his cheek, pulling him in for a lingering kiss.
“Please fuck me, Danny. I want to feel all of you.” He didn’t need any more encouragement to move, lining up and sliding oh so slowly into Em. She was wetter than she’d ever been, her body taking Dan easily. He kissed her deeply as he bottomed out, holding her so tightly she thought for a moment she might bruise.
“So good. You’re such a good girl for me, Baby, so perfect,” he moaned, Em letting out a whimper at the praise. “Did you like that?”
She nodded, unable to find the words.
“So perfect for me, Emmy, you feel so good. I’ve wanted this for so long. Wanted to kiss you and take you home and wonder if you taste as good as I think you do. So pretty and perfect for me.” He began to move, fingers flicking against Em’s clit and all she could do was hold onto his shoulders as he thrust into her.
“More, Dan, please, keep going.” She’d never had more than one orgasm in a night before but she could feel the second one rising through her body. His lips left open mouthed kisses along her collarbones and chest as his fingers brought her closer.
“Gonna make you cum for me. So perfect on my dick like this. You feel so fucking good, Em. So good.” His words and his thrusts and his movements pushed her over the edge, a wordless cry between her lips as she came. Dan’s groan followed, sweaty curls collapsing into her shoulder as he found his orgasm.
He slipped out of her and the sudden fear of “did I just ruin my friendship” ran through Em. What was she supposed to do? But instead of freaking out Dan rolled over onto his back, an arm hooking around her waist and pulling her over to him, out of the wet patch to a dry place on the bed.
“Can I stay here tonight?” He whispered, brown eyes looking right through Em.
“Yeah.” He pushed a kiss to her forehead and tightened his arm around her, Em getting comfy with her head on his chest, one of her arms across his body to hold him tight as they dozed to sleep together. The one thing running through her mind was that the man everyone would want, the man who’d accepted a trophy from royalty just hours before, was in her bed and had been the most generous lover she’d ever had in her life.
She definitely hadn’t slept enough when Dan woke her up, fingers trailing over her ass and up her back and down again on the other side so she’d shiver. There were quiet kisses against her forehead until she moved, looking up at Dan grinning.
“Hi.” The simplicity of the statement made her giggle, Dan following as he kept a hold of her.
“Hey. What’re you doing here?” It was supposed to be an innocent question as she smiled, Dan stopping moving for a moment.
“Well, I was wondering if you wanted to go for round two? At least?” He had his charm turned up to eleven, but the question had to be asked.
“What are we doing, Dan?”
“Hopefully getting at least another couple of orgasms?” He tried joking, but Em’s face made him stop. “We can pretend this didn’t happen and I can leave. Or we can hang out while you’re in Monaco, be friends with benefits? You’re a good friend, Emmy. This is just a bonus that we can chalk up to being drunk last night.”
She was going to hell for this. But he was warm and comfortable and she still felt so good thanks to how he’d made her cum before they’d fallen asleep. But somehow, for some magical reason, Daniel Ricciardo wanted her. He wanted her and she was going to take full advantage for as long as she could. The man who could have anyone he wanted wanted her.
“We have till Wednesday. Let’s take advantage of it.” It was a timeline. A stop for them. But if he made her feel like that again it’d be so worth it.
“Sounds perfect.”
Em reached up to kiss him, her hand roaming down to feel his morning wood harden even more in her hand, thumb rubbing circles over the head with his precum.
“Fuck, Em. Fuck yes.” Dan was groaning against her chest, Em moving down the bed. She looked up through her eyelashes to see him stare at her in wonder as she placed open mouthed kisses up his length before licking a stripe along the visible vein. As Dan gasped she smiled before opening her mouth to swallow down as much as she could. Dan’s hands were in her hair but he wasn’t pushing her, careful to let Em take him at her own pace. Her hand was around what she couldn’t swallow easily, jacking him in time to her movements.
“I’m gonna cum, Baby. I’m so fucking close, I can’t—“ Em swallowed as far down as she could, gagging slightly on Dan as he came with a shout, salty liquid spurting down her throat. She stayed like that until she was sure he was done, pulling off him with a smile. Dan wiped the involuntary tears from her eyes, pulling her up to him.
“You are amazing, you know that?” He reached for a kiss and Em tried to dodge it, but he pulled her tight. Nobody had ever wanted to kiss her after she’d gone down on them, not even her ex. But here was Dan, fingers already exploring while he caught a thigh between her legs.
“Coming from Mr Monaco?” She asked, watching as the memory of the day before hit him.
“I won fucking Monaco for you!”
“For you.”
“You’re just gonna keep arguing with me aren’t you?”
“Always.”
He cut off what was going to be her next argument with a kiss, pulling them both sitting up and settling Em on his thigh. Her clit hit off one of the muscular ridges that was covered with his boat tattoo, making her gasp.
“I want to watch you cum like this, Baby. Grinding down on my thigh like the desperate girl you are. You’re gonna look so pretty just like this.” She gasped, Dan’s hands on her hips making her move and the friction was so perfect. He was right there bouncing slightly, Em’s head thrown back while his mouth moved from nipple to nipple to keep them pert and tight.
“Daaaaan. Ugh so good.” The sensations were overwhelming, but her movements were cut off with Dan’s phone ringing.
“Stay quiet, Baby. Keep going and once this is over you can cum your pretty brains out.”
She leaned her head against his chest, hips searching for that friction she needed as he answered.
“Yeah…Mate, yeah I know we’re all getting brunch. I’ve got time…None of your business where I ended up. I’m safe and everything is good. Yeah. I’ll be at the apartment in a little while, I know you’re all leaving later. Em’s staying till Wednesday though, gonna show her Monaco cause she hasn’t been here before. Cool. See you in a while.” The phone was thrown across the bed and Dan’s fingers went straight to Em’s fluttering clit, her pussy clenching around nothing as her orgasm was so close.
“So good for me Baby. So so good. So proud of you for staying quiet. Gonna cum for me like this?” She followed her orgasm, desperation in every pore as Dan’s skilled fingers brought her to completion. She knew he was staring as she threw her head back but she couldn’t care. Dan was all around her, and desperation made her so happy to keep going.
She slumped against him, Dan holding her up and pushing kisses to her forehead. Neither of them wanted to move but the phone call meant they both had to. Unfortunately.
“I need to ask something kind of awkward,” Dan began, Em looking at him as she regained feeling to her body after the last orgasm. “We…I forgot about a condom last night. Do we need to do something about birth control?”
“We’re good.” She saw his brow furrow and smiled, pressing a kiss to the creases between his eyebrows. “I’m on the pill, Dan. Have been for years. My alarm will go off any minute. We’re probably better using a condom next time too, but we’re good.”
“Thank God. I didn’t think, I’m sorry. And I get tested regularly you don’t need to worry.”
“It’s been a while since I had sex so I’m good. We’re all good?”
“Yeah. And now we have to go have brunch with everyone. Mum and Dad are flying home tonight, and Blake and Mike are heading back to London. It’ll be just us from this evening?”
“Sounds fun.”
She just about managed to get dressed, Dan trying to seduce her back to bed but Em insisted they needed to at least pretend to be normal. She wasn’t going to be the one everyone was waiting on. It was separate cabs to Dan’s, arriving at the same time and going up in the elevator. Once she was in everyone pulled her into a hug, Em returning them.
It was the six of them for brunch with multiple people stopping by their table to congratulate Dan and introduce themselves. One of them, Cyril, shook his hand and Em got the feeling she was seeing something she shouldn’t have been watching. But Dan was sitting beside her, his shoe running up the back of her calf. The brunch place was fancy, mimosas for everyone except the two extremely hungover men at the table, Blake pointing his fork at Em.
“Why are you not totally hungover? I definitely saw Mike shooting champagne at you from those stupid water guns.” He was wearing sunglasses inside and Em wanted to laugh.
“I left early.”
“Oh?” The implication was clear in his voice.
“Not like that! It was crowded, I’m not a fan of super busy places. I’d rather chill out and go back to my hotel room.”
“Fair.” It was quiet until Grace spoke.
“Did you enjoy the race?”
“I did!” She had a real smile on her face thinking about the week she’d had. “I’ve only started watching since Dan and I became friends, but it was a lot of fun. I’m going to Silverstone too, so it’ll be fun to see another one.”
“You need to come to Melbourne next year. Albert Park is great in the sun, and it’d be good to spend more time with you.” It wasn’t a request, more a confirmation she would.
“Yeah, you’ll come. Once the dates are announced put it in for work, you can take the time. Have you ever been to Australia?” Blake asked, Em shaking her head.
“I’m a freelancer, that’s not an issue. But I’ve never been. Considering I spend too much of my time talking to ye I feel like it’s something that will be fixed sooner rather than later.”
The rest of the meal was idle chit chat, talking about anything and nothing. Dan kept playing footsie with her, his hand on her back running fingers up her spine when he could get away with it. They spent the day relaxing with everyone before all going out to the airport together.
It was hugs and a promise to knock on Blake’s door when she got home on Wednesday, and an invitation from Grace and Joe to visit Perth anytime. She and Dan waved them all through security before going back to his car, getting in and Dan running his fingers up Em’s thigh.
“So I was thinking we go back to your hotel room, get your stuff, and check you out? Stay with me until you go back?”
“Are you sure?”
“Yeah.”
It was simple to go back with Dan, watching as he drove through the narrow streets. The streets that he was now king of, because he’d won Monaco and Em couldn’t help but laugh at it.
The next two days were filled with laughter and joking and orgasms. Tuesday Em had awoken to Dan eating her out, an orgasm before she was even fully conscious. From that they got on his Vespa and he drove them to Italy. He explained how he’d lived in Northern Italy when he first moved to Europe as a scared teen, and he’d built a knack for knowing where a good hole in the wall with the best pasta was. And it was true, they ate plates of good food and laughed while eating, Dan paying the bill and talking to the Nonna who ran it in halting Italian.
“Hidden skills, Dimples,” Emma joked, Dan smiling.
“My Nonnas and Nonnos are all from Italy, I had to learn. Plus moving here it really helped.”
“Maybe you can teach me a little?”
That night Dan wouldn’t let her cum until she got out the entire translation of “where is the best pasta”.
Wednesday was weird for both of them. They’d been in their flirty bubble, joking and fucking, but she was leaving. Her little bag was packed, ready to go. Dan dropped her to the airport in Nice, and she couldn’t read his expression. Had she just ruined one of her best ever friendships?
“Text me when you land, yeah?” He asked, arms around Em in a final goodbye.
“I will. And tell me when you find the next song you think I’ll love but I actually hate please?”
“You love my music taste!”
“Yeah, yeah. I’ll talk to you soon Dimples.”
“See you at Silverstone if not before, Wrinkles.” Em went through security, sitting waiting for her flight back to London and already missing their little Monaco bubble. Once she landed she texted Dan, getting a little k back in response. The nerves continued to grow with his lack of texts over the next day or two. But it’d be fine. He was going to Canada, the time difference didn’t really help. That’s what Em told herself as the near hourly texts moved to almost daily, but it didn’t help that wonder. Had she ruined a really good friendship for three days of excellent sex?

hey friends i’ve gone insane :) here’s over 1500 words discussing that quote from the last days of judas iscariot in relation to daniel
(why didn’t you make me good enough so that you could have loved me?)
and no one wants the diatribe but you’re getting it anyway! the last days of daniel ricciardo :)
the first place to start is with context!
daniel moved from carlin racing in 2009 to tech 1 in 2010; tech 1 was the team that ran the red bull juniors in formula renault 3.5; as a note, daniel only lost out on the championship that year by 2 points. when daniel tested for rbr at the young driver’s test from 1-3 december 2009, he clocked the fastest time of the test by over a second. christian suggested that daniel might replace his 2010 world series teammate brendon hartley as the team’s test and reserve driver (they ended up sharing the responsibilities).
at the young driver’s testing in 2010, daniel dominated the event (again!) and clocked a lap that was 1.3 seconds faster than seb vettel’s f1 qualifying lap from the saturday before. just days after this testing, daniel was confirmed as toro rosso’s test and reserve driver for 2011 and he would race in the first free practice session of every race weekend.
on 30 june 2011, daniel was contracted to hispania racing by rbr to finish out the rest of the 2011 season. on 14 december 2011, daniel was confirmed to drive for toro rosso for the 2012 season and he was re-signed for the 2013 season the next year.
daniel replaced mark webber at rbr at the start of the 2014 season to race alongside seb. in his debut race with rbr, daniel qualified 2nd and maintained that position throughout the entire race. (he was later dsq because his car was ruled to have exceeded the mandated hourly fuel flow rate limit; rbr’s appeal was rejected by the international court of appeal and the dsq held). daniel beat seb in the 2014 season, getting three victories, and was the ONLY non-mercedes driver to win a race in 2014, and finished third in the championship.
in 2015, the development of the car suffered and it only really performed at slow/twisty high downforce tracks and in the rain; daniel still got two podiums that year. in 2016, the car was much more competitive and daniel took home a significant number of podiums (most wins/podiums he lost out on were due to rbr/mechanic silliness). notably, after he finished 2nd in germany, he performed a shoey for the first time. he once again took third in the driver’s championship.
in 2017, daniel won his fifth grand prix, finished on the podium five times in a row, and then three times in a row; he held fourth in the championship for most of the season but finished fifth because of retirements in three of the last four races. in 2018, daniel never finished below p6, took home 2 victories, and tied for most retirements in the season (8 in total, 7 of which were mechanical failures and one was baku). he got four fastest laps and finished sixth in the championship.
and that’s just the racing context! daniel drove the car that christian and geri took from the church after their wedding! daniel was over at their house all the time! christian still talks about how good of a driver daniel is and how incredible his performances at red bull were! christian also still doesn’t understand why daniel left.
so now to the last days of judas iscariot; the part of the script that the seminal line comes from goes like this,,,
Jesus: I’m right here.
Judas: I would have never believed that you could have left me.
Jesus: I never left you.
Judas: That you didn’t love me.
Jesus: I do love you,
Judas: Why . . . didn’t you make me good enough . . . so that you could’ve loved me?
Jesus: ... Please take my hands, Judas. Please.
Judas: Where are they?
Jesus: Right here.
Judas: I can’t see them.
Jesus: They’re right here.
Judas: Where are you going?!
Jesus: I’m right here.
Judas: Don’t leave me!
Jesus: I’m here.
Judas: I can’t hurt...
Jesus: I love you, Judas.
Judas: I can’t...
Jesus: Please stay.
Judas: I can’t hurt...
Jesus: Please love me, Judas.
Judas: I can’t.
and it fucking kills me!! firstly, the narrative that places rbr and christian as jesus when a large contingent of fans are dying to paint them as the Worst and The Most Horrible is just fucking incredible! but with daniel as judas it’s!! so much!!
it’s the idea that daniel felt that red bull was leaving him behind; that red bull was moving on from him with max - i would have never believed that you could have left me - daniel saying i have been here for almost ten years!! how could you move on from me!!! i have been here!! i’m right here!! - i never left you - the consistent messaging from christian that they never wanted daniel to go, that they still believe in daniel, that daniel is still a priority for them
that you didn’t love me - daniel looking around at this team that is supposed to be his and feeling alone - i do love you - daniel, you drove me from my wedding! you’ve met my children! what else is that but love?
why didn’t you make me good enough so that you could have loved me? - looking back, again, at all the years that daniel has put in and saying, i have been here and put in the work and done all that you’ve asked and followed the path from fr3.5 to toro rosso to the main team and i beat a four time world champion and what more do you want from me? how else could i have let myself be shaped??
please take my hands - you have done enough, you have been enough, just stay for a little longer, trust that the new engine is going to be good enough and that you can win and that both you and max can win and you can stay
where are they? right here. i can’t see them. they’re right here. where are you going?! i’m right here. don’t leave me! i’m here. - what it comes down to, is that daniel didn’t believe in them anymore; daniel couldn’t see a future for himself with red bull; he couldn’t see the future that max saw (i hope we’re teammates for many years, said in 2017); he couldn’t see the future that christian saw; he couldn’t see anything beyond more engine-chassis integration problems and the feeling of screaming into the void like he’s on this team by himself
within the play, judas is a catatonic state that he occasionally emerges from for flashbacks or for dialogue with jesus;
JUDAS slowly emerges from his frozen state of catatonia,
Judas: …..Who’s that?
Jesus: Is it ever anybody else, Judas?
there’s a reason we still say christian bring daniel home; there’s a reason the daniel back to red bull agenda is so pervasive; there’s a reason and it’s not just because the car is fast; who made daniel happiest? who gave him the most potential for growth? who loved him not as an idol but as a son? is it ever anybody but red bull?
Jesus: I won’t go away.
Judas: Well, that’d be a first.
Jesus: I have never gone away, Judas .. . Look at me. Judas does. I love you, Judas. And all I want—all I want—is to be not just near you—but with you.
Judas: Shoulda thought of that before.
Jesus: Before what?
Judas: Just get the fuck outta here, okay?
Jesus: Judas—
Judas: Don’t fuckin’ Judas me— You’re not wanted here, okay, Mister Fuckin’-Above-It-All?!
Jesus: I’m not above it all—I’m right here in it, don’t you see that?
Judas: And don’t you get that I don’t fuckin’ care?!
Jesus: You think your suffering is a one-way street?! It’s not! It’s the exact opposite of not!
Judas: You got a lot of fuckin’ nerve—
Jesus: —and you’ve got no nerve at all! Where’s your heart in all this, Judas? You think you were with me for any other reason than that?! It was your heart, Judas. You were all heart. You were my heart! Don’t you know that?!
there’s a school of thought (perhaps the original school of thought before the catholics or dante or whoever got a hold of it) that hell is just the absence of god; we get closer to hell by getting further from god; theologically speaking, jesus never left judas - judas left him. it just didn’t feel like that. speaking in terms of formula 1, red bull never left daniel - daniel left them. it just didn’t feel like that. it’s the school of thought that says it’s okay if i leave you because you left me first. it’s okay if i hurt you because you hurt me first. except, the leaving first, the intentional hurting first, it didn’t happen; and there’s too much hurt and too much anger for judas, for daniel, to ever listen to the truth.
it’s so much easier to say they pushed you out and they didn’t really want you and it’s so much harder to say that you left so they couldn’t push you out and so they would never stop wanting you. it’s so much harder to say that you left so that you could always remember things being exactly as they were; so that you would never have to live through a change. because what if the change meant they did stop loving you? (impossible, you’re the prodigal son, you can always come home and they will slay the fatted calf for you and drink champagne from your shoe and make a place for you at the dinner table; you drove christian from his wedding, you showed max how good racing could be - not just winning; they’re always going to love you)
i didn’t talk about it before but the exchange where jesus says “i love you” and judas doesn’t respond correctly or can’t hear it - it happens several times; the last days of daniel ricciardo at red bull are everyone shouting i love you at him but he can’t hear it because he’s already decided to go (it doesn’t mean they weren’t saying it)
the final stage instructions of the play are as follows:
A long beat.
JESUS sighs, takes off his shirt, plunges it in the bucket, rinses it, and begins to wash JUDAS’s feet. JESUS washes meticulously and with care. He washes. And washes. Perhaps the water is mixed with tears.
Lights fade.
The end.
judas is catatonic and jesus loves him anyway. daniel has been gone for years and christian still says that daniel could drive the red bull just as well as max.
the daniel x red bull saga is never going to be over until it’s all over; until his name is gone from christian and max’s memory; until we’re generations down the line; until then, christian is always going to say that they could have made it work with daniel (the way they used to, the way it showed that it could work from 2010 to the beginning of 2018) and daniel is always going to say that he needed to leave (they talked about max the way they used to talk about him); and it would be so much easier to decide which is the truth and who is more in the right, if they didn’t all care about each other so much
the question is, why didn’t you make me good enough so that you could have loved me?
and the answer is, we did make you good enough and we did love you then. we do love you now. but does it matter? love us back, please, the way you used to.

Navigating This Blog:
Firstly, please remember that my tagging system is for my use. I'm very happy when my blogs help people find stuff! But their first function is to help me find stuff. <3 1. If you’re looking for a specific race, the tag format is [location] [year]. For example, #hungary 2019 or #mexico 2016. -> Azerbaijan is listed as Baku. -> Countries with multiple races will be tagged as both the country and track (for example, Spain and Valencia/Jerez/Barcelona, Germany and Hockenheim/Nurburg). -> European GP content is tagged as both European and the name of the track, either Valencia or Baku. -> Where possible, days are also tagged. So, for example, #canada 2022 saturday. 2. If you’re looking for just a specific year, the format is either #flashback fic ref [year] or #fic ref [year]. #flashback fic ref is any year before 2021. #fic ref is for 2021 onward. 3. If you’re looking for just a specific track, that’s tagged too! Just search the country. 4. On a quest for other racing-related content but not from F1 race weekends, you say? -> Pre-season and post-season tags! For example, #pre-season 2014 or #post-season 2017. -> Testing, specifically, is also tagged! The format is testing [year], like #testing 2021. 5. Things he does in his capacity as an F1 driver, but not strictly racing-related? -> The FIA gala is listed under both “fia gala” and “fia prize giving”. Examples: #fia gala 2018 or #fia prize giving 2014. 6. And, of course, non-racing-related content: -> The format is [year] not a race. For example, #2007 not a race. -> If you’d like a specific time period during a season, it’s separated by what races it fell between. For example, #between japan and usa 2022. -> The Met Gala tag format is met gala [year]. For example, #met gala 2018. -> Summer break 2021 / Summer break 2022 7. Feeder series! -> Formula 3 -> GP2 8. All under-18 content is tagged as #childhood photos. 9. Relationships (not taking requests to add to this): -> Sewis -> George Russell -> Mick Schumacher 10. Important! On the website version of Tumblr, you can combine search items. This is immensely helpful for finding specific things! -> So, for example, if you open search and type in "hungary 2022, sewis" it’ll only pull up Sewis content from the Hungarian GP. :) -> Or “testing 2022, barcelona” 11. Trigger tags I commonly use: * These are either for my use or by request and are not up for discussion or debate. If you need something added, please drop me a dm or ask to let me know. 💜 -> #tw max (verstappen) -> #tw transphobe (webber) -> #tw nico (rosberg) -> #tw kimi (raikkonen) -> #tw bernie ecclestone -> #tw helmut marko -> #tw christian horner -> #tw dietrich mateschitz -> #tw crash -> #tw death -> #tw body perception -> #tw food / #cw food This is a pretty exhaustive list, but if you need help or are confused, feel free to contact me! <3

Danke Seb: F1 bids fond farewell to retiring Sebastian Vettel after 16 years
Bowing out with the crowd on their feet delivering a standing ovation and chanting your name is perhaps the fondest farewell a competitor can hope for. In Abu Dhabi on Sunday Sebastian Vettel called time on his Formula One career with just such a reception. Admired and respected, Vettel’s departure genuinely leaves the sport a little bit poorer. The 35-year-old completed his final GP at Yas Marina after 16 years in F1 and having won four world championships. It has been some career and notably for a perceptive, thoughtful character, one not of a straightforward trajectory. Here then was a man ending his career amidst an outpouring of genuine affection and a sense of sadness at his departure, where once he antagonised as many as he had endeared. The Vettel that won those titles with Red Bull between 2010 and 2013 was a driver perceived as arrogant and often cast as the villain. Nicknamed “fingerboy” for his triumphant wagging of a digit after a victory and the often ruthless, selfish, win-at-all-costs attitude of the infamous multi-21 incident with Mark Webber, where he disobeyed team orders, so determined was he to take the win. Yet this weekend all 20 drivers took Vettel out for a farewell dinner, where his great rival Lewis Hamilton picked up the bill. They were, without exception, gushing in their praise for Vettel. Two hundred members of the F1 paddock from teams, media, and F1 turned out to run the track with Vettel at Yas Marina on Saturday night, their small way of saying “Danke Seb”, as their t-shirts read. As a driver his talent was never in question but as he has aged a genuinely admirable and intriguing character has come more to the fore. His absolute passion for the sport and its history has become clear. As has his commitment to putting his position to good use in highlighting racism, diversity, women’s and LGBTQ+ rights and the climate emergency. A more mature, rounded man has emerged from the youngster who made his debut in 2007 and then took F1 by storm in becoming its youngest world champion in 2010. A man who, it became clear, it was almost impossible to dislike. He still drove with the same commitment, indeed to the extent that there remained moments of high drama, fuelled by the strong emotion that racing inspired in him. Driving into Hamilton at Baku in 2017 was petulant and dangerous and similarly at Canada in 2019 he did not take a penalty for blocking Hamilton well, but Vettel was always big enough to apologise once the adrenaline wore off. He was ultimately a genuine sportsman, intelligent and articulate, so much so that he and Hamilton, fierce competitors, became friends. They acknowledged that it was how they treated one another of the track that mattered and recognised in one another kindred spirits in their desire to make a difference in the real world. Vettel never hit the heights of those four titles again. He had a shot at two more in 2017 and 2018 with Ferrari but was thwarted on both occasions by Hamilton and Mercedes. Two years with Aston Martin followed when he parted company with the Scuderia in 2020. His time there was an uphill struggle in a poor car but he nonetheless gave his full commitment. Intensely private, he leaves F1 to spend more time with his family, his relationship with whom he has always said defines him as a person much more than F1. Which is indicative of a man with his priorities in order. Vettel departs on his own terms, then, rightly content with his achievements as a driver and as a man, and he will be missed. “I had a great time and was able to enjoy success and win championships,” he said in Abu Dhabi. “From the sporting point of view, it’s been huge, but also I have been able to grow and mature in many ways, reflect about a lot of things.” via Formula One | The Guardian https://www.theguardian.com/sport/formulaone

You can also watch replays and highlights of each session on demand anytime after they finish.
What to expect from the Austrian Grand Prix?
The Austrian Grand Prix is one of the most scenic and challenging races on the calendar. The Red Bull Ring is a short but fast circuit, with only 10 corners and four long straights. The track is located in the Styrian Alps, which means it has a lot of elevation changes and unpredictable weather conditions.
The race is also a home event for Red Bull Racing, who have dominated the season so far with eight wins out of eight races. Max Verstappen leads the drivers’ championship by a comfortable margin over his teammate Sergio Perez, who has won two races this year. The Dutch star has also won the Austrian Grand Prix three times before, in 2018, 2019 and 2022.
However, Red Bull will not have an easy ride in Austria. Their rivals Mercedes, Aston Martin, Ferrari and Alpine will be eager to challenge them and end their winning streak. Mercedes have won four times in Austria since 2014, with Lewis Hamilton taking three victories and Valtteri Bottas one. Aston Martin have shown strong pace in recent races, with Sebastian Vettel finishing second in Baku and fourth in Monaco. Ferrari have also improved their performance this year, with Charles Leclerc taking two pole positions and Carlos Sainz scoring two podiums5. Alpine have also scored points in every race so far, with Fernando Alonso and Esteban Ocon showing consistent form.
The Austrian Grand Prix will also feature the second Sprint weekend of the season, which means that qualifying will take place on Friday instead of Saturday, and a short sprint race will determine the grid for Sunday’s main race. This adds an extra element of excitement and unpredictability to the weekend.
So don’t miss out on this amazing opportunity to watch the Austrian Grand Prix live with F1 TV Pro! Subscribe now and enjoy the best Formula 1 coverage available!

So these are the 10 qualifiers from last night’s first semi final of Eurovision 2023.
From a personal point of view I am quite happy that a few of the songs that I really liked got through to Saturday’s Grand Final. However there were at least three songs that should not have qualified and at the expense of far better songs that were more deserving to get the final based on the quality alone. One country that didn’t qualify and I feel really sorry for is Ireland, as I thought they had a really decent song this year and have been enjoying listening to their entry. It’s just my opinion but Ireland was far better than Croatia and Serbia put together. It is shocking that this most successful country at Eurovision has not qualified for the final since 2018! 😮
But my absolute favourite song and performance of last night was Loreen from Sweden with her dance-pop track titled “Tattoo”. Her voice, the staging and the performance gave me the winning vibes from when she first won Eurovision back in 2012 in Baku, Azerbaijan with another banger “Euphoria”. So it comes as no surprise to me that she is currently the bookies favourites at 5/8 to win the final on Saturday and would love to see that happen. 🇸🇪
Another country’s entry that I really enjoyed was Switzerland with their power ballad called “Watergun, performed by Swiss singer Remo Forrer. Even though the staging was lovely and simple, the overall performance level was captivating as you could feel the emotion being portrayed by the singer and in his voice which was impeccably easy on the ears to listen to. Hopefully this entry can achieve a good result in the Grand Final this weekend. 🇨🇭
Portugal is another country that I have taken a shine too and for the fact that the style of the song is not pop oriented- more traditional Portuguese music if you can call it that. You can hear in parts a bit of flamenco and a bit of jazz. Plus it was sung in Portuguese and not English which the majority of the songs are. Again keeping fingers crossed that Portugal will achieve a respectable result on the board come Saturday evening. 🇵🇹

Sainz, Pérez Both Threats in Saturday’s Sprint Race
Max Verstappen has five Wins in the last eight races (Saudi Arabia, Italy, Miami, Spain, Azerbaijan, Canada), and teammate Segio Pérez (6/1 Fastest Lap 2023 Austrian Grand Prix, BetOnline) is also performing very well at this juncture of the F1 racing season.
Charles Leclerc (wins at Bahrain, Australia) has been pretty good in the Qualifying market, but Pérez and Carlos Sainz (5/1 to win 2022 Austrian Grand Prix) are also making some noise and 70 points off of the lead in 5th place, Sainz (111 points) is worth watching.
Belgian native Verstappen (181 points)—he races for the Netherlands—has won three of the last 4 Austrian Grand Prixs and Verstappen, who has won with Red Bull Racing-Honda, will now try to get the checkered flag for Red Bull Racing RBPT and also win this Sprint.
Verstappen (+170 to win the 2022 Austrian Grand Prix) and his Red Bull Racing RBPT teammate Sergio Pérez (6/1)—who finished in 2nd place at the Silverstone Circuit last weekend and he is my pick to get the checkered flag this week—should both contend.
Lewis Hamilton (12/1 to win the 2022 Austrian Grand Prix) had a very good race at Silverstone—where has won a record 8 times— finishing in 2rd place, but winning the sprint (10/1) seems like a stretch with others driving so much better this F1 season.
The F1 Drivers with the most Austrian Grand Prix Wins are Joe Seifert (4) Alain Prost (3), and the aforementioned 24-year-old Verstappen who can become the all-time winningest Driver here in Austria with his 4th Austrian GP victory at the circuit here on Sunday.
In the United States, the 2022 Austrian Grand Prix race can be seen on ESPN, the ESPN App, and the NBC Sports Stream and Formula One fans and bettors can check out the race in the United Kingdom live on Sky Sports as well as through Live Streaming on NOW.
The next and 13th race is the French Grand Prix on Sunday, July 24 (ESPN, ESPN App).

With world-class striker Robert Lewandowski on their books, it was already a tough battle for most of their opponents throughout qualifying, as the 31-year-old made six out of ten matches.
Poland is in Group E alongside Spain, Sweden and the winner of the playoff course B, things will become much more competitive for Bialo-Czerwoni, which will allow for an exciting match round in summer.
Key player: Robert Lewandowski
Lewandowski is Poland's most capped player and top scorer of all time, the Bayern striker remains one of the deadliest predators of the match.
The AC Milan striker scored 22 goals in his last season - including 13 for the previous Genoa club - and launched his fledgling career in Poland with one goal every two games.

France reached its eighth European final in a row rather comfortably and qualified without being disturbed by a series of serious injuries. Didier Deschamps, therefore, had to call on 29 players, including some newcomers such as Clement Lenglet, Leo Dubois, Ferland Mendy, Tanguy Ndombele and Jonathan Ikone.
But his strongest possible structure is very similar to that which won the World Cup, with only Lenglet having outstripped Samuel Umtiti in central defense.
Key player: Antoine Griezmann
Griezmann remains France's undisputed technical leader and their main inspiration. Anything but a place in the last four next summer would be considered a failure.

General update
Here is the final word from T*umblr regarding the purge and nsfw content (nsfw images will no longer be permitted after Dec 17).
“Written erotica” is apparently still allowed, ostensibly because it’s harder to tell at a glance so a*dvertisers won’t be Big Mad, but that’s the thinnest fucking ice I’ve ever been on, so I don’t trust it. So:
EssieCorking is now on Twitter: @essiecorking!
I think currently our plan is to move any future collabs off of T*umblr entirely. RC doesn’t care to use this site anymore for obvious reasons, and since that blog is marked explicit and I’m not sure how that will affect my main blog, I may delete EssieCorking by the 17th. It makes me feel sick to my stomach because we love that blog and everyone who supported it and had fun with us was unbelievably special to us. So, not sure yet, but will update if I decide to do that.
[Edit 12/4/2018: I’ve realized I can remove myself from the account, while RC’s temp account remains admin, so no plans for deletion, currently. Hopefully some of our SFW posts on there stay up.]
I’ll be mainly on Twitter: @esselle_hq!
Insta: esselle.fics Pillowfort: esselle (they should be up again in a day or two) AO3: Esselle
I don’t think I’ll be around @esselley as much anymore. BUT I still feel like Twitter has not afforded me that same level of connection I loved having here. I have to post story snippets and previews on twit as crappy screenshots that nobody really wants to see, I can’t write spontaneous little things, etc (though I just got curious cat and may get TwitLonger). So it’s frustrating. I may still post links to fic updates and other projects (like zines) here for the time being but... I don’t really want to put my energy into such a dishonest site that is fast becoming proudly dominated by a*ntis and p*urity culture.
It’s crazy and sad to me to think of how excited I used to feel about sharing content here; teasing fics, posting updates, talking about my stories. I really lived for that. But this year has slowly killed that joy, from safe mode targeting general LGBT/fandom content, to “best stuff first”, and now finally, this mess. I just... feel disheartened posting here now.
Anyways... bleh. What a shitty update :( I’m sorry everyone. I still have lots of stuff I’m working on and will keep posting wherever I can XD Chap2 of that kiri//baku will be up this Saturday, I’ve started... a new TDDK fic I’m super excited about, and I hope to do some holiday stuff as well for HQ/BNHA (hopefully with RC)! So, life goes on.
Let’s keep creating in the face of all this!

FACTS AND STATS: Williams led a qualifying segment for the first time since 2016 after Albon topped Q2
Montreal provided an entertaining qualifying session, with the tricky conditions not easy to handle. Max Verstappen emerged from the downpour with another pole position, but it was Nico Hulkenberg and Haas who wound up his closest challengers. While it was all smiles down at the American team, some others weren’t too happy with their qualifying slots. Here are the best facts and stats from Saturday in Canada… Max Verstappen scored his third consecutive pole position, his best run of the season. It’s the Dutchman’s 25th career pole, passing Niki Lauda and Nelson Piquet. Nico Hulkenberg was second, his third career front row start and first since Austria 2016 in his Force India days. It’s also his best Q3 performance since taking pole in Brazil 2010. This is the first time a Haas will start from the front row for a Grand Prix – Kevin Magnussen started from P1 for a Sprint. READ MORE: Verstappen charges to pole for Canadian GP as Hulkenberg grabs surprise P2 in wet and wild qualifying session Fernando Alonso qualified third, for his fourth top-three start of the season. He starts in the top three in Canada for the second year running. Hulkenberg has scored Haas' highest grid slot for a Grand Prix Lewis Hamilton starts fourth, in what will be his third top-four start of the year. He finished on the podium here from P4 on the grid last season. George Russell qualified P5, his highest start since he was on the front row in Australia. Esteban Ocon was sixth, the third straight race he’s started in the top six. He has now qualified P9, P8, P7 and P6 in his last four visits to Canada, in that order. Lando Norris starts seventh, he’s only started higher than that once this year when he was third last time out in Spain. Carlos Sainz loses his distinction of being the only driver to start in the top five of every race in 2023 after qualifying eighth. He was then handed a three-place grid penalty after the session for impeding Pierre Gasly in qualifying. READ MORE: ‘We are just making our lives so much more difficult’ – Leclerc calls on Ferrari to ‘improve now’ after Montreal Q2 exit Oscar Piastri was ninth, matching his starting slot from Spain. It’s the first time he’s made it to Q3 at consecutive races. Alex Albon made his second Q3 appearance of the year after Australia – although he did reach Q3 in Sprint qualifying in Baku. Williams led a session/segment for the first time since Nicholas Latifi in FP3 at Hungary in 2022. Alex Albon finished P1 in Q2, the last time a Williams led a qualifying segment was Felipe Massa at Spa in 2016. Sainz couldn't keep his run of top five grid starts going in Montreal - and then received a three-place grid penalty Charles Leclerc has missed Q3 in consecutive races for the first time since Turkey and Bahrain in 2020. Meanwhile, Sergio Perez also missed Q3 – for the third consecutive race. That’s his worst run since 2019. The Mexican hasn’t made the top 10 shootout in Montreal now since 2018. Nyck de Vries suffered just his second Q1 elimination in the last six races. His team mate Yuki Tsunoda missed out on Q2 by just 0.016s. HIGHLIGHTS: Watch the action from qualifying in Montreal as Verstappen takes pole ahead of Hulkenberg It’s only the second time this year that both AlphaTauri cars exited in Q1, having done likewise in Jeddah. Pierre Gasly was fourth fastest in qualifying in Spain, but out in Q1 today. He also dropped out in Q1 here last year. Zhou Guanyu qualified last, having dropped out in Q1 four times in the last six races. via Formula 1 News https://www.formula1.com

Now that I’m home I can finally sort all that photo mess that I have from my whole journey and make a decent (ha?) post about my second ever F1 weekend. German GP 2018, probably the last F1 race at Hockenheimring.
To be honest, I just start thinking that I should never ever come to one again because once I’m there, my favourite driver(s) race is not that good and with a lot of issues.
It was a hell of a wekeend actually (literally, half of it was the terrible heat and the other half was a sort of a flood - lightning storms and wrath of the skies included). A short story of how it was with bits of unnecessary personal information.
Thursday was a pit-walk day and I was really excited: it was Sebastian’s home GP so we believed that the chances for him to go meet the fans were really high. Having spent some hour or two camping in front of Ferrari garage paid off and there he was! Cute and nice and attacked by piles of fans but I still managed to have a small talk and a selfie with him (seriously, my extreme-conditions-selfie-skills still suck, sorry for that orc with Seb in the first picture). Presented my drawing (probably that was the reason I was honoured with so ‘much’ attention) and he seemed to like it, yaaaas! It was the third day since I arrived to Germany but it was already the highlight of the whole trip (reminder: still had almost a month of travelling ahead).
Friday was the practice day, no special events for fans, but I checked my place at the grandstand and it was perfect: could actually see half of the track from my spot (that panorama shot is the one). Got to discover the surroundings, fan attractions and stuff. Met some friends and tried local pizza. Not the best one ever but still good. Just a note here: my previous F1 weekend was Baku so it was a completely different track, and also my place was at the longest straight so I could enjoy that not-so-big piece of the track that I could see and those awesome loud sounds of cars rushing by but this time I was sitting by the last turn of the track and could see a number of other turns and straights and it was really exciting. In no way I want to say that it was a bad experience back there in Baku but I definitely enjoyed Hockenheim more.
Saturday was the first day of the flood. Bought a raincoat for 10 euros (wtf) and upon my arrival to the track site I was actually shocked to discover the lack of the signal on my phone. Is it dead? Is my phone dead? What if my aunt is trying to reach me and she can’t and thinks that I’m dead? Nothing special that was though, and a simple explanation to that was just too many people in one spot and everyone’s connection was dead. The issues started before that though, I have missed half of P3 because I couldn’t get into the train to Hockenheim - too many people, the first train couldn’t fit us all in, the next one was in an hour. Well, crap. But at least that wasn’t the quali. Later on, the qualifying was actually good even though rainy: the grandstands were full and the atmosphere was great, so many people in red and when Seb took the pole, the cheer was loud. The schedule said that in some 2 hours after the qualifying there was a fan forum with autograph session, and my friends and I believed that if we rushed to the place right after the end, we would be lucky to be close enough to the stage (and our grandstands’ entrances were actually close to the place of the forum) but oh how we were wrong: it took us literally a couple of minutes to get there but the spot was already full of people and we could hardly see the stage. Somehow it didn’t feel too bad, that day we celebrated anyway.
Sunday was good at start. The drivers’ parade, the show, the beginning of the race and the weather - yeah, it was perfect. The grandstands made waves all together and it was fun and they booed those grandstands who failed to make a decent wave (like, yeah, booing is not good but that was a friendly booing so everyone was ok with it). We made a huge flag with those cards they gave us and I was a red piece (yay). It was epic, fantastic, spectacular, promising - right until the rain started and then... well, you know. The mood was just as grey as the weather. We were trying to leave the grandstand when the rain turned into storm with thunder and lightnings (perfect day for a astrophobic person, ha) and there was a literal flood around: I and some others found shelter under the women’s toilet roof and the water was coming closer to our safety island so I decided to try to escape as soon as the thunder was gone. It was the day the cars I cared about so much crashed: first it was Seb and then I got a call from my aunt saying someone hit my uncle’s Mercedes (that was the wrong merc you dummies... i am only skilled to make stupid jokes, i’m sorry, no hate please). And he was supposed to pick me up after the race. Well, crap. The happy end though: it wasn’t a bad hit so he actually picked me up after the race. The very end of the whole race weekend was predictable but we tried to keep hope to avoid it but it didn’t happen: we got stuck in a traffic jam full of people trying to leave the track site.
It was just another great experience and time to remember. Things never go smoothly as planned or desired, so yeah, we mourned but we never lose hope. And also I still had most of my journey ahead, new adventures I’ve been looking forward to. But that’s a completely different story.
