Songs of Decay - Eldritch-inspired suspense radio drama. Tom moves to a small town with his daughter to reconnect with his dad, a retired bodyguard, and find a better life. Unfortunately, the county is afflicted with the eldritch and the local Eldritch Anomalies Department (EAD) is drowning in work. With a skill set (and too much experience) in the eldritch, Tom tries to help and finds himself dealing with an eldritch moose, a murder, occult summonings, and Esther, a local widow determined to solve things on her own. #songs of decay
A Small Lantern Still Gives Light - Xianxia inspired and based. Zhang Huai Shi is one of the last remaining cultivators of a sect destroyed by the new emperor when he came to power over a decade ago. Bai Xue Ying is a half demon hiding his heritage, wandering the cultivation world with Zhang Huai Shi. Their fate and the fate of their whole country begins to shift when they stumble upon a cell containing a long-thought-dead prisoner of war, who also has connections to the Zhang family. Genre-typical deluge of characters, politics, and drama. Family is important. #small lantern
Bards, Courts, and Changelings - Late 1940s, post WWII. Irish mythology is real and causes problems on the regular. Bards act as mortal go between for the fair folk and normal humans, dealing in debts and favors. A Scottish researcher, Irish bard, and English wardens all converge on a changeling case. However, a selkie gets swept into the fray, and an American woman trying to get back home needs help to escape a dangerous fae. There will be a wedding. #bc&c
Living Memory - Modern Greek mythology slice-of-life exploring topics of grief, coming of age, and family. When Blythe's husband Adanil dies and leaves her with a grieving family of five, she decides to pull an Orpheus and sets out after him to the Underworld with a YouTube musician in tow. In the ensuing chaos, the family has to learn how to deal with unlikely success, Fate, and living with the introvert daughter of Hades and Persephone. #living memory
Outcasts - High fantasy where magic is technically illegal in many countries, and an underground resistance has formed that spans the whole continent. Many characters, many perspectives, all trying to make life better as they want to see it. We have several manuscripts that need editing, but the future is becoming clearer. #outcasts
We’ve also got a lot of AUs and random ramblings that we may share for fun~ To get to know us, here’s our writeblr intro.
Let us know if you'd like to be added to tag lists!

WIP Wednesday
So fourth place in that poll from a while ago was an excerpt from the next chapter of Soldier, Poet, King. I'm going to skip ahead a bit from where I left off last time just because I want to, so here's the first 500-ish words of Lan Xichen's POV for this chapter 😌 (Next week will be last place in the poll, which is something from the Brokeback Mountain AU!)
--//--
Lan Xichen runs through the shatterdome as fast as he can, chasing little more than glimpses of his brother’s white jumpsuit and the dark ends of his hair whipping around corners as people scatter out of their way with a sort of organized efficiency. He can only hope that they don’t leave panic in their wake — they’re at least running away from the communications tower and the Kaiju sirens are, of course, silent. He doesn’t have time to worry too much about that, though; his priority now has to be Lan Wangji, because Lan Wangji’s will be Wei Wuxian.
Lan Wangji loves Wei Wuxian past the point of rationality. This has been true for years, long before the pair of them were given the opportunity to work in proximity and let their infatuation mature into something well-rooted in mutual respect and regard for each other. Lan Xichen has been Drifting with his brother since they were teenagers, and though they don’t share their thoughts whilst in the Drift in the same way others do, that doesn’t mean Lan Xichen hadn’t known. That kind of devotion isn’t something one can tuck conveniently away in the silence of meditation, and Xichen had done what he could to help his brother nurture that love through obstacles many people could never imagine.
He knows precisely what it will do to his brother if Wei Wuxian loses himself in the way that Xue Yang has. He also knows that if Wei Wuxian must lose himself then Lan Wangji would rather be lost with him than be left behind again to wonder if there was anything he could have done differently to help Wei Wuxian avoid this in the first place.
Wei Wuxian’s inexplicable disappearance to Yiling so many years ago had been difficult for everyone, really.
Lan Xichen practically skids into the research bay mere moments after Lan Wangji and stops with one hand braced on the doorframe for support. Lan Wangji has not stopped voluntarily, that much is clear. He isn’t struggling, but Song Lan and Wen Ning both have death grips on his arms and apologetic looks on their faces when they glance up at Lan Xichen’s arrival. He can see in the next moment why they’ve stopped Lan Wangji with some force; Wei Wuxian is already deep in the Drift, his eyes squeezed shut and his hands in fists on the arms of the chair pulled up next to the exam table Xue Yang is strapped to, the latter thrashing weakly enough that he isn’t dislodging any of the dozen or so tubes and wires stuck into him.
“What is the meaning of this?” Lan Xichen asks Wen Qing, standing calmly behind Wei Wuxian’s seat with her hands cupped carefully around either side of his neck.
“If Hanguang-Jun interrupts them now Wei Wuxian may never come back.”
“His brain activity is only slightly abnormal, no more than if he were just starting to chase the rabbit,” Nie Huaisang pipes up from behind the bank of computers, Mo Xuanyu typing furiously at his side. “Xue Yang stabilized fully once they started Drifting, it’s actually helping I swear!”

First line tag game
Thanks for the tag @sabels-small-sphere !
This game has you post the first sentence in your last ten works; if you don't have 10, do as many as you have!
Lucky y'all, I DEFINITELY have at least that xD I usually only mention WIPs I have a decent amount on but but there's plenty more. Let me know if you're interested in any, familiar or not!
I'll tag @thewriterswitch @writing-with-melon @hd-literature and @surroundedbypearls though anyone feel free to take it on as well!
1. Songs of Decay
Tom: Soo you're angry with me because the moose didn't maul me and my daughter? Sir? Compton: No, I'm upset because you were directly in the Moose Zone after the warnings went off, and then instead of leaving, you fought it. With your daughter there!
2. Frozen Sands
Hawk stalked out of the house and paused to massage his temples. His father Hugo could be too jovial at times. There was a limit to what Hawk could handle, and Hugo went over that, regularly. Combined with the hammering of metal in the forge and workshop, headaches were a daily occurrence.
3. A Small Lantern Still Gives Light
Zhang Huai Shi: *eating noodles* You hear that? Bai Xue Ying: Dog, he said. Zhang Huai Shi: Yeah. Don't know any that tall, do you?
4. Dragons and Kingdoms
“The herds were forced into the last barn remaining, and the herders tried their best to keep all of the animals together. The dragon roared and swooped at the stragglers, its companion flying over the roof and belching out green flames. But the people had thought ahead and soaked the roof, and the flames would not catch. The greedy dragon was not pleased by this, and tried again."
5. Bards, Courts, and Changelings
Leir: Who's the warden? Haysel: Ooooh, that's Leystand. Leir: What? Haysel: *quieter* Can't you tell?? Leir: *also quieter* I've never had the misfortune of running into him.
6. Birds of a Feather (Labyrinth x Princess Tutu)
[montage of recordings in front of the school in various locations; Rosalind, a theater student with an assignment, is setting up for interviews, shuffling papers beside a camera. Her partner, Celia, is setting up the camera] Rosalind: *going through papers* Celia: *focusing the camera on an outside hallway* Femio: *posing* Is this good? My better angle? Mis amores, please tell me if I am too much for your technology~
7. Dancing with Deception
Shida used to take ballet. She'd even learned ballroom, salsa, tango, swing. Now she just listened to the beat, bouncing and banging her head and hips to the sound surrounding her.
8. Alien Girlfriend
Most people don't believe in aliens. However, I happen to know that those people are wrong. I never argued one way or another for a long time - it didn't matter to me. Extraterrestrial or local, I didn't push for any more information than people would share on their own.
9. A Deal's a Deal
Nashida walked into the woods with a light, well after the hour she knew were safe. She followed a path deeper and deeper into the forest, and soon lost the trail entirely. She was alone. She knew she had to be for this to work.
10. [title pending] Princess Tutu Reverse Isekai Xianxia
An old man lived on his own with a donkey in a cave on a mountaintop, rarely coming out but to chuckle at the world, beat his fish drum, and return. He wrote stories, fanciful but sad ones, delighting in their tragedy and chaos. One day, he was found dead, his last story left unfinished. But it held much potential left to fulfill…
That's all for now!

My current WIP, “Then God said, 'Take your son, your only son, whom you love...’”
This is quickly turning into one of the most elaborate pieces I've done in years. Whoops.
Bonus points if you find the Easter egg (which should be easy if you're at all familiar with the show).
And yes, I had to do a whole separate miniature painting just for that one detail.

BingYuan~
Ooh, interesting! I’m guessing this is distinct from bingqiu, since I already tackled that one. I assume it uses non-transmigration shen yuan? So I can tell you that the biggest downside is that I’ve put very minimal thought into this ship before now, but let’s see what we get!
Downsides:
My lack of interest in this ship is... a lot drive by the fact that I’m rarely looking for an opportunity to have less fantasy in my stories, and most bingyuan I’ve seen takes place in a modern setting :X
It’s not a dealbreaker, and like, for example Iove the yi city coffee shop au, but fantasy-story-with-less-fantasy is almost never something I will seek out, it’s something I have to be persuaded into trying. I do love the silly, questionably-constructed universe of PIDW, especially with the conceit that it was constructed by Shang Qinghua, which I can identify with as an author who is sometimes forced into worldbuilding. The modern world? I live there, I don’t dislike it, but it’s a very familiar environment, while ancient fantasy china is very novel to me.
And honestly, I get much less invested in binghe and shen qingqiu/shen yuan without that ‘oh boy, my teacher who i want to please more than anything stopped hating me and started loving me instead.’ Binghe’s damage and the way that his damage affects the way he interacts with the people in my life is one of my favorite, FAVORITE parts of svsss, and dropping a shen yuan into his life after those formative childhood years... it’s just not going to have the same OOMPH as the canon body stealing situation.
Upsides:
Now, you can get some really fascinating aus working with this situation, ones that had plain never occurred to me until someone presented it as a bingyuan scenario. Portal fantasies for binghe to show up in the modern world are fine, but don’t grip me as much of some of the more inventive ones. Two specific fics that pop out off the top of my head are feynite’s homemaker au one-shot (binghe exists in the modern world.... as well as his extended demon family, which interferes with his desire to be a nice quiet house husband), and pandaflower’s great and terrible oz series (binghe has been ruling the world for a very time, and is not terribly.... balanced, then shen yuan is born into the world, and binghe thinks he recognizes his old shizun reincarnated)
Those are both wild! I never would have thought of them myself, because honestly, aus are not typically my forte, but they are delicious. WIth the feynite one-shot, you get a bingyuan dynamic with a very bingmei flavor to it, and in the pandaflower series, binghe is very bingge, and it’s delicious and tense. Not having shen yuan as a fish out of water trying to integrate himself into a new place does take away some things that I like a lot about the original canon, but it introduces some really lovely new character dynamics to play with, and gives you a lot of room to explore.
And... oh........
Anon, I may have accidentally lied to you.
‘I’ve put very minimal thought into this ship’, I type, as I alt+tab over to my writing window, where I returned to working on (one of) my bingyuan wip(s) this morning.
Okay, yeah, I’ve got... 3.5 bingyuan aus (in one of them it’s not a good situation, but his original marriage was with a bingge, which went..... badly). Now, most of these are aus-of-aus situations, and explaining them is probably more words than I want to put into this ask meme, but like..... ‘I’ve put very minimal thought into this ship’ jfc
My main priority in these is that I love shen jiu, deeply, despite his many, many flaws, and his death breaks my heart. First au! Qijiu is a thing, Shen Yuan shows up mysteriously, lost and sick, dressed in modern clothing, and looking very much like Xiao Jiu as a child. He’s adopted into their family despite Strong protests from Shen Jiu, and then Shen Jiu gets attached. Second au! Binghe (bingge lite) is working on building his harem, and one of his new husbands is a certain Sha Yuan, who transmigrated into Sha Hualing’s younger brother at a very young age and basically (re)grew up in the PIDW world. 2.5th au! Binghe (true bingge) married Sha Yuan, things were.... Not Good, and anyways, Bingge died(?), the harem fell apart, and now Sha Yuan is kind of on the run with Mobei-jun and..... Xue Yang. I swear it makes sense, but what if i... don’t explain.
And, final au, what if Liu Mingyan and Liu Qingge were swapped, and she grows up to be the Bai Zhan Peak Lord and Shen Jiu copes less badly with her than her brother because [men] are a lowkey trigger for him, doesn’t spitefully recruit Luo Binghe to Qing Jing Peak, and little Liu Qingge drags Luo Binghe off to go train with his sister. Then........ also Shen Yuan as Shen Qingqiu’s little mini-me protege. All of these are technically bingliuyuan aus (except the 2.5th one) because I love Liu Qingge and can’t stand to see him sad or heartbroken, but yes, apparently I have spent a lot of time thinking about bingyuan and love it very much :V

fanfiction asks! 15, 41, 46?
Is there an obscure ship which you love?
Lord, I don’t know how to gauge what is...obscure ship? I mean apparently Bai Wuxiang/Xie Lan is a rarepair which is frankly tragic because! I mean! But.
I guess the ultimate one is probably the Wheel of Time Elan/Min/Rand triad, which is good (also just Min/Elan, that too), but also, like. I’m pretty sure doesn’t exist outside of my brain. It’s not like it’s a big fandom.
In general most of my “obscure” ships are probably for fandoms that are just generally small book fandoms, where by virtue of the fandom being small and the pairings being generally non-canonical they’re obscure by nature.
At one point I feel like Steve/Loki was obscure but I don’t think it is anymore.
Though Wei Wuxian/Xue Yang is also tragically underwritten, I have to say. (Yes, I know I’m not helping, I’m working on it.)
List and link to 5 fanfics you are currently reading:
Oh boy! Way to stealth ask me for recs.
These are all going to be Untamed fic with one exception, because like. I mean. What did you expect. And went with all WIPs, because that’s what counts as “currently reading” (though I guess I could go with ‘open in tabs waiting for me to start,’ too).
This is far from a complete list, my subscriptions are a mile long and obviously I love everything on there because I wouldn’t subscribe to them otherwise.
a bow for the bad decisions by curiositykilled. The AU where Jiang Cheng and Jiang Yanli find out about Wei Wuxian not having a golden core earlier (though not, initially, why), and it does not fix everything. I am loving this one.
Into Darker Water by sqbr. This is the “one exception” - you know how I mentioned I was poking around He Xuan/Shi Qingxuan fic? Found this one and I’m in love with it. Post-canon, slow-burn-y.
My Erstwhile Dear by Erradianwhocantread. I asked for post-canon epistolary Xiyao and this is delivering.
Red Azalea by CeNedraRiva. Yi City fix-it longfic, aka the thing I’m always looking for more of and don’t have nearly enough of.
Rewritten by incendir. This is a series and not a fic but it’s not marked complete yet, which delights me. Absolutely pitch-perfect modern AU SongXueXiao. I am in love. (This author writes a lot of really good fic, actually, so consider this a bonus author rec.)
If someone was to read one of your fanfics, which fic would you recommend to them and why?
Depends on what fandom they’re reading for! Like, it really does. I’ve written across so many fandoms over the years. I guess if I were to pick one for each of my, like, “major” fandoms that I’ve written a lot for...
Though oh shit, that means I have to pick one for Supernatural, doesn’t it. No, we’re just gonna leave that one alone.
MCU: I’d say probably half a league onward. While Life in Reverse is the fic I’m definitely, like, known for (if I’m known for a fic) and Remember This Cold is my monster baby, I think this one is actually one of the ones I feel like is best written/constructed and reasonably contained.
The Silmarillion: Seven Years. Honestly I think this might be one of my favorite things I’ve written ever in any fandom, at least sometimes.
The Untamed: With Absolute Splendor. I was torn between this one and everyone else is spring bound but I think I’ll go with this one because it feels like it’s even more representative, although depending on who I was talking to/how honest I felt like being I feel like I might do one of the Xue Yang ones instead.
Doctrine of Labyrinths: Throwing this on here because I can, and because I want to rec how this grace thing works.

OC 15 Questions
Thanks for the tag @tate-lin ! Crookedwriter here, since no WIP was specified, I decided on A Small Lantern Still Gives Light. Inkwell writes Bai Xue Ying and will be answering the questions today~
Tagging @h-brook-writes, @sleepyowlwrites, and @iced-ginger-tea! Feel free to go for it yourself as well if you like.
(Inkwell here! *waves* This was fun, thank you! :) )
Tag list for #small lantern and the interview are below the cut!
1) Are you named after anyone?
I am not. My personal name, Jie Ying, means "nimble," "victory," and "adaptability." My courtesy name still has Ying, but "victory" changed to "studious." I'll let you draw your own conclusions.
2) When was the last time you cried?
Well, my friend Zhang Huai Shi here keeps giving away our food. Just because we're cultivators and don't need as much doesn't mean I don't like to eat.
3) Do you have kids?
I have siblings. And a mother.
4) Do you use sarcasm?
…Ah, I'm really trying to figure out the logic behind your questions. What are we trying to talk about here?
5) What's the first thing you notice about people?
How closely they're looking back. Auras and weapons are important to note, but anyone can cause significant trouble if they are too observant.
6) What's your eye colour?
I don't expect significant trouble from you if you're standing right there and still asking me that question.
7) Scary movies or happy endings?
"Movies?" Your terminology is unfamiliar, but I think most would take terror over an ending, however happy. Any cultivator seeking immortality, at least.
8) Any special talents?
I'm scrupulously honest.
9) Where were you born?
Northern Zhenhai, in a small mountain town. I have a whole backstory prepared if you'd like to keep asking in this vein.
10) What are your hobbies?
I don't know - Huai Shi, what are my hobbies? Um, complaining. I do a lot of that. Eating food.
11) Have you any pets?
I spent enough time finding a good sword.
12) What sports do you play/have you played?
There's this one sport I played - you know, up in that small mountain town in northern Zhenhai - and it involved setting fire to things you'd generally think were pretty inflammable. We were bored.
13) How tall are you?
Shall I stand up? Are you done asking questions?
14) Favourite subject in school?
I studied under a healer. None of it applies to ME, for reasons, so it was a little infuriating. But it is nice when it works on someone else. It sounds a little cold to say, but it's almost like solving a puzzle. That satisfaction.
15) Dream job?
I like my job now. If I didn't like it, I'd find another one. The only things it takes is time and effort. And not deciding to dream about something irrational. Like killing the emperor, Huai Shi. Because there are better things to do.

I decided to try my hand at greyscale painting. I did the sketch and head a couple days ago and tonight added more detail to the hair. obviously a WIP, and may add colour later if i feel like it, idk
Anyway it’s Countess Violet Baudelaire-Olsen, age 25, in an everyone-lives-nobody-dies AU where she decided to marry Count Olaf after all once she got older, and miracle of miracles, it actually worked out just fine.

1, 2, 3!
Ooh, let’s see!
1. Tell us about your current project(s)  – what’s it about, how’s progress, what do you love most about it?
Okay, so I have tabs open for several likely wips where inspiration might strike at any time, but my big focus right now is in the fic I refer to interchangeably as ‘diet bingge’ or ‘bingge lite’. I hit a wall for a little while, but I’m trying to get back into it. This is (one of) my svsss feynite-inspired aus of aus situations. And it’s basically here, because I love all the svsss characters a LOT, and it is remarkably hard to keep them all alive and happy, not in the least because one of my biggest faves (shen jiu) technically dies before he ever appears. Also, I multiship like whoa, and the scope of a jianghu setting intimidates me, so the iwywmh dreamer-in-the-spring-boudoir-based harem setting.... it is a good fit for me.
So! My initial impulse. In the iwywmh “canon” setting, shen qingqiu gets killed by luo binghe, kinda... accidentally. An ‘I didn’t realize my own strength’ situation, after they’ve had a horrible falling out and shen qingqiu’s marriage has been effectively destroyed. My initial impulse was ‘but what if he.... didn’t die, though’
It opens up a really interesting story is what happens!!!
Because, okay. I’m not going to rehash all of the original story’s backstory, because it’s So Much, feynite’s fics and comments are packed full of solid gold. But in this situation, Shen Qingqiu has watched his marriage dissolve out from under him, and he’s heartbroken and furious, and just got framed (partly by binghe) for the death of his husband’s baby-in-progress (with another man). He’s lost everything he valued most. He no longer has a will to live. Binghe, on the other hand, is kinda horrified at what he just almost did, because he hates his shizun, definitely, but also.... shizun is the most important person to him. So with that tweak, I’ve saddled him with a Shen Qingqiu who he just almost killed, who has no will of his own to keep going, and he’s trying to make his way in the world.
Also liu qingge is there, and also shen sha yuan eventually, and they’re all important, but the shen jiu + binghe dynamic is the core of this story for me. Because what happens is that they kind of despise each other, but also.... Shen Jiu accidentally makes Binghe a much, much better person. He’s not nearly as soft as the Binghe of the original fic, but he’s not the Bingge of the original fic either, not by a long shot. And the emotional balance is fraught for some time, and is slow to get more healthy, but my boy gets there! And it’s kind of a situation like the last svsss verse I posted, where I was like ‘wow, I have no idea who will be willing to take this trip with me, but I tripped into a concept I find fascinating, and I hope people will join me’
This is the first story I’ve written in a long time where I’m letting myself diverge sharply from a flowing narrative with the minimum number of povs. I actually have to take like 20k of wip out of second person, because I’ve got like four major povs I need to bounce between constantly (binghe, shen jiu, liu qingge, shen yuan) and one or two side povs I need to flush out other bits of story (shang qinghua and maybe mobei-jun) (outside chance of liu mingyan too, goddd). I just made the decision a few days ago to split this into chapters, so I’d be able to post something soonish, but I did stall out for a while, because the scope is pretty overwhelming. And in the end, I’m not even sure it will work as A Narrative, because I don’t even know how it concludes, but I’m working on making my peace with that XD I’ve got close to 30k in a document, and still ages to go, so I badly want to pull it into a shape I can share, but.... it’s so much story, hahaha XDD
(my document with working notes for this is ‘SHIZUN GET BACK HERE AND GRADE MY FINAL PROJECT’, which also lives in my head rent-free as a working fic title. actually titling this fic is going to be a bear)
2. Tell us about what you’re most looking forward to writing – in your current project, or a future project
Oh, hmm. I think... If I’m sticking to projects where I actually can picture the scenes in question, I think I’ll have to go with the xuexiao wip that I’m going to return to any day, I swear, where I get into the actual dialog of the humiliation kink. It’s going to be a really interesting emotional balance, which is part of why I’ve been putting it off (I need to be in just the right mood, y’know?), but I’ll be in Xue Yang’s head, and I want to roll around in the way he gets to let loose with his crueler impulses, and the satisfaction that comes with it... plus a side serving of emotional self-harm, because he’s got extremely mixed feelings about making Xiao Xingchen hurt, and this is showing him all the ways he could dig the knife in deeper, which is theoretically what Xiao Xingchen agreed to, but is Xue Yang even enjoying this anymore??? Anyways, I love a good excuse to write top drop. Some of the top drop is written so far, but I’ll have to edit it based on how the scene itself plays out
3. What is that one scene that you’ve always wanted to write but can’t be arsed to write all of the set-up and context it would need? (consider this permission to write it and/or share it anyway)
Oh my god, I want to write the whole peak lord liu mingyan au, but it’s another one where I don’t have a narrative so much as a whole bunch of sequential moments in a story. But I am COMPLETELY committed to giving Shen Jiu a happier life, and if that means flipping the liu siblings around so that Liu Qingge is Luo Binghe’s peer (and drags him up the hill to Bai Zhan Peak instead of Qing Jing), and they are both shamelessly corrupting Shen Qingqiu’s favorite disciple, Shen Yuan, then... I’ll....... try to do it. Eventually :X If I had to pick a single scene, it would probablyyyy be the aftermath of this version of the abyss (the focus is the shen jiu + liu mingyan frenemyship, but the background is bingliushen)
But also, I want to write the canon version, where people accuse Shen Jiu of creeping on women for violently unfair reasons, and where he’s unfairly blamed for Peak Lord Liu Mingyan’s death in the Lingxi Caves, but now there’s an additional flavor of ‘well I bet she rejected him, and he took his anger out on her’ and he very bitterly doesn’t even try to defend himself, because nobody will believe him anyways. And I want to write the fic itself, where her natural big sister energies are exactly what he needs and can never never never admit out loud, and where she’s a comforting presence that he would never admit to needing.
I have no idea what this fic would even look like, physically! None at all I want it to just Exist, but it’s looking like I have to write it, which means I need to figure out how to write it, and none of this is fair :’)
