I feel like who mock crab day are doing so in a way that (purposefully or accidentally, I can’t tell) misses the point.
As your local anti-capitalist, who will be participating in crab day:
Nobody thinks that tumblr is going to reverse all of the bad changes to its site if we do this. Nobody thinks that this site is without its awful shit (see: flagging queer content as mature). Nobody is seeing a corporation as our friend.
But here are the simple facts:
Tumblr is in debt
Websites can’t function without income
If we can’t buy products from tumblr, we will become the product, in that tumblr will sell more of our data
Tumblr is a product, and if you enjoy a product, you should give its creator(s) money so that the product you enjoy can continue to be provided (that’s generally how capitalism works)
The thing motivating most of the bad changes to tumblr is profit, and gaining new users
I don’t think anyone thinks that we’ll get tumblr completely out of debt, or anything like that. But it IS an attempt to show that tumblr doesn’t have to become like every other social media to be profitable.
It’s a call for tumblr staff to work with its existing userbase, rather than try and find a new userbase with all of these shitty changes. Like, they SEE that the existing userbase is against giving them money. Do you think that’ll make them listen to what we want? No! So they’re trying to get new users; ones who make actually be profitable! Because, even if you don’t like it, we DO live in a world where you have to be profitable if you want to keep a product you like alive.
Staff is at least somewhat aware of the userbase’s current discussions. They know (for example) how goddamn bad we want NSFW content back. They know about Goncharov, they know about the site being called a “hellsite”, they knew about the great Reddit migration. This effort has the possibility to be noticed by the higher-ups, and it obviously isn’t going to fix the site, but it might do something, and that’s more that we can say for just posting to our blogs about how much the new changes suck.
Not to mention that, generally speaking, staying afloat comes first for corporations. There is a very low chance that tumblr staff will address any of the actual issues (like porn bots and queer content being auto-flagged) while it’s still in the red. If it becomes financially stable, then it is possible (not certain, but possible) that staff may be able to put more resources into fixing the stuff we actually care about.
So, like… With crabs being chosen because they’re the cheapest item available (making participating in crab day as non-consequential as getting a candy bar), why not give it a try?

Some Azur Lane Headcanons
Here are some shipgirl headcanons I have! Note that these are just my personal headcanons (some inspired by my friends) and you don't need to agree with them.
I'll start with some for Wales because I love her so much, and I have so many headcanons for her compared to other shipgirls:
I can see Wales singing/humming a lullaby to help herself sleep when she can't. She may do the same for her partner if they can't sleep, if they so wish.
Lightweight, lol
She'd find being called "Princess" as a nickname endearing and adorable, especially if it's from someone she loves.
Probably wouldn't mind being pampered by whoever she loves, given her responsibilities as one of the Royal Knights(which is probably a lot on her shoulders), and... her unfortunate history...
Bilingual, at the very least (speaking English and Welsh)
Bisexual
Generally somewhere on the femme side.
While she usually buys her own jewelry, the earrings she wear the most (in her default outfit) can be a gift from Hood quite early on, not long after she's been launched.
Large and expensive wardrobe (including fancy dresses, lingerie, other nice clothes, etc.), probably applies to many of the other HMS ships too.
Wales and Howe would sometimes do each other's hair, and makeup in some cases. Usually the former.
And here are some for other ships!
Howe likes to have a bake-off with Dunkerque for fun, and enjoy the results together afterwards! (And they're definitely besties)
Duke of York is probably into Greek Mythology to some extent.
Formidable will occasionally to introduce Yorkie to some of her musical interests.
King George has a few clumsy moments here and there. Though, she's still pretty graceful overall.
Hood has the biggest jewelry collection in the Royal Navy (Wales maybe being close second?)
Bismarck is already shy, but I imagine her being even more shy and awkward around other women.

⁂ it took sanemi an extreme amount of time to even RECOGNIZE the fact that he had some feelings for you, and even longer time to ask you out on a date.
⁂ being a demon slayer, nevertheless a hashira, is extremely dangerous. and questioning whether or not somebody would be making it back home was a stress he didn’t want.
⁂ however, you seemed to be able to hold your own when it comes to demon slaying. you were a kinoe, damn near close to hashira level. sanemi had admired you from afar, due to your lack of interaction.
⁂ until… you became a hashira. the thunder hashira, a force to be reckoned with. now, sanemi had no choice but to actually associate with you time to time.
⁂ unbeknownst to sanemi… you were well aware of his strange behavior whenever you were near him. you chalked it up to him disliking you, because he seemed to dislike everyone, and put it behind you. while you’d like to be friends, it did not effect your job.
⁂ until you heard from shinobu, who heard from mitsuri, who heard from iguro, who sanemi told that he thought you were attractive. it was a simple enough compliment that intrigued you, because in shinobu’s words, sanemi would never ever compliment anyone he wasn’t interested in.
⁂ you took it with a grain of salt, however. but since then you made more of an effort to talk to sanemi and give him your attention. he was distant, bitterly rude, but he managed to communicate with you somehow and someway.
⁂ the two of you got rather close, as close as sanemi would allow you to be to him. with his insecurity about losing people close to him, he tried to push you as far as possible. however, it had not worked yet.
⁂ the two of you continued with your small friendship. touches lingered, secrets were shared, you and sanemi had an undeniable chemistry. yet neither of you were ready to act on it.
⁂ until you lost your arm in a fight against the upper moon four. you barely got out with your life, somehow managing to use your breathing technique to get away. you collapsed eventually, but thanks to your crow, you were found.
⁂ when sanemi heard the news of your loss, he tried to push the thought of care out of his mind. he tried to detach himself. but all he felt was relief. he tucked this relief deep inside him however.
⁂ he didn’t visit for the first week you were in the butterfly mansion. he didn’t plan to visit during the second either, but due to shinobu convincing him that his silence was detrimental to your mental health, he had no choice but to come.
⁂ seeing you lying on the bed, your eyes dim and fixed on the ceiling triggered something within him. he made his way to your bedside and sat down by your knees.
⁂ “you did good, y/n.” he said softly, his usually gruff voice smooth and steady. “i’ll take you out for ohagi when you get outta here.” you turned your head to look at him, a frown fixed on your face.
⁂ “why didn’t you come to see me sooner?” you whispered, “weren’t you worried?” sanemi pursed his lips, glancing at your ashen face, to the place where your left arm once was. “i was really scared to lose you.”
⁂ “ass excuse,” you said. “spend time with me before you do. you only live once, sanemi.” you turned your gaze back to the ceiling, and sanemi squeezed your hand. “so i’ll have to take you to get ohagi every day, huh? wouldn’t mind eating it with the person i care about every day.”
⁂ “just kiss me already.” you grumbled, “you know you really want to.” sanemi laughed, turning to you fully and pressing a quick kiss to your lips before pulling away. “damn right.”
