"Hello! If you are receiving this, [medic] has missed their daily deadman switch check in. All client information will be released in 12 hours."
For a second villain stared dumbly at the text on her phone. Then she bolted from her desk towards the door. It was 10:17 - a taxi would be faster than the metro at this hour to get to midtown -
"Hey!" their coworker said, pulling out her airpods. "Where are you going?"
"Medical emergency," the villain snapped and slammed out the office door.
A precious 29 minutes later the villain arrived at the medic's apartment to find a motley gathering of capes and masks shuffling and looking suspiciously at each other in the hall. There was an air of a 2am fire drill - few supers operated on daylight hours, especially not the low to mid-powered supers the medic took on as clients, and the whole event had the awkward feel of meeting your neighbors in their pajamas.
The vigilante wore their normal black of course, but in the daylight the denim was faded and the jacket obviously cheap pleather. On the villainous side there was that grimy little clown themed duo in plain white face paint instead of their full make-up. For the heroes there was that kid goody-two-shoes try-hard - of course she'd rolled up in full uniform, minus the normal tracker camera the Hero Agency mounted on all its people now. And hero, the villain's nemesis, was there too, having jammed on the cowl and gloves over his t-shirt and jeans, just like villain had over her business clothes. He was standing in the doorway, and visibly sighed in relief as villain turned the corner.
"Oh thank God you're here," hero said and wasn't that terrifying that he had nothing flirty or snarky to say about villain's suit.
The goody-two-shoes did a double take. "Her?!" she snapped, even as she rocked her weight nervously from leg to leg. "You were waiting on her?"
"We sure weren't waiting on you to do something useful, cupcake," the female gremlin drawled from where she slouched against her partner on the hall floor, flicking her knife through her fingers.
"Yeah, didn't realize medic was a pediatrician too," the male gremlin giggled.
"Knock it off." The hero stepped aside, opened the door. "I kept them out, kept the scene clean for you."
The goody-two shoes groaned, buried her head in her hands. "This can't be happening."
"Quick, did someone bring a pacifier?" one of the gremlins stage whispered.
The vigilante pointedly stepped over the two clowns, forcing them to jerk backwards or take a combat boot to the face. "We're assuming this is about us," they breathed to the hero and villain. "What if they got hit by a bus? Dropped dead of a heart attack?"
"No reports from the hospitals or morgues of unidentified persons matching medic's description," Villain said curtly. "Checked on the way here. No communication to or amongst medic's friends and family about an emergency."
Goody-two-shoes blinked. "You... know [medic]'s real identity?"
"And that is why we were waiting on her," hero said patiently. "Now everyone shut up."
The villain curtly nodded acknowledgement, stepped into medic's apartment though it would not be necessary. The medic had disappeared from the street, at some point after they'd used their debit card to buy their usual black coffee at 7:04am and at some point before they'd failed to badge in at work by 8:15am. Still, the villain did a quick scan. The little homemade exam/treatment area had been freshly cleaned, the trash emptied. The tablet and laptop were missing from their docking station, but the go-bag was still in place under the desk.
"Y'all are gonna give me a minute with [medic] when we find them," the male gremlin drawled. "This 12 hour deadline is bullshit. They said we'd have 24 hours if they missed a check-in."
"You're not getting shit," the vigilante growled around the toothpick they were chomping.
"And they shortened the deadline because I told them to," villain said, breathing in the smell of antiseptic and bleach. She'd also told the medic to set the deadman switch to every 8 hours, not every 24, but the others didn't need to know that.
"You what?!" said the gremlins and the goody-two-shoes in unison. The vigilante choked. Even hero looked startled.
"I advised them to consider how long they could hold out under torture to reveal the abort protocol," said villain, using a tongue depressor to lift a latex glove from the kitchen trash. "I'd say medic was pretty generous. Speaking of generous, I've seen enough." She pointed to hero. "Last person you referred to medic and when?"
Hero tilted his head, realization blooming. "You," he said to villain. "Nine months ago."
One of the gremlins pointed to vigilante. "We did you! We did you last Arbor Day!"
Vigilante sighed and jabbed a thumb at goody-two-shoes. "The kid," they sighed. "I dunno when. Summer?"
The goody-two shoes swallowed. "Um," she said very quietly.
As one, the group turned to the kid. She froze, eyes going wide behind the mask. "It was - I didn't mean to!" she cried, backing up. "Just - he noticed the scar and realized it wasn't sanctioned medical care and I - and I - !"
"Okay, slow down," said hero gently, shooting a warning look to the gremlins who were both holding knives and on their feet now. "Who did you tell?"
The goody-two shoes' shoulders collapsed. She looked miserably at her toes. "Superhero. Yesterday."
Everyone flinched.
"You idiot," the vigilante breathed.
"We're going to kill you," the female gremlin said to the goody-two shoes. The male cracked his knuckles. The hero took a deep breath and pushed the goody-two-shoes behind him -
"Save that for 12 hours from now," villain said briskly and dropped the glove back in the trash. "We've got just under 11 hours to find where Superhero's got medic stashed and mount a rescue before our identities and medical records are splashed all over the internet. And frankly, I think it's going to take every single one of us to meet that deadline."
The six of them looked at each other in the shadows of the hall. The hero mustered a grin. "That's why we're all here, right?" he said. "Instead of hiding or running. Medic's saved all of us- now we save them."
"They didn't save me, I wasn't dying," one of the gremlins muttered. But no one walked away.
"Right," said villain. "Let's do this."

The Shuttle AU where Nigel Anstruthers is even more devious and DOESN'T separate Rosalie from her family, and he pretends to be nice and good and even invites Bettina to spend her school holidays at Stornham Court one year.
(That last one was not his best idea, tbh.)
Through chance, circumstance, or maybe the weaving hand of Fate, Bettina Vanderpoel and James Hubert John Fergus Saltyre meet, speak, and quickly discover their mutual distaste for Sir Nigel Anstruthers...
Anyway I call this one Jem and Bett Ruin Nigel's Life (Ten Years Ahead of Schedule)
#the shuttle#jessica's random thoughts#it's in my head as kind of this reluctant-allies dynamic#Betty thinks he's is a snob#he thinks she's a spoiled brat#but they both think Nigel needs to be taken down a peg or two#and so they team up to get in touch with her father without Nigel reading Betty's letters#and maybe Betty snoops around to find records of where the money Nigel is getting from the Vanderpoels is ACTUALLY going#or something#anyway the point is that Nigel gets taken down by a couple of kids#BUT they never actually get along with each other#and then rosy goes back to the vanderpoels in new york so there's no reason for Betty to be in england#so they don't see each other again#and then years later Nigel dies of being a jerk or something#and Betty goes with Rosy and Ughtred back to Stornham to help fix it up and make things better#and meets saltyre (now mount dunstan) and they still have the same falling-in-love-but-not-admitting-it thing as in the book#but there's also the comedic backstory of being reluctant allies against her evil brother in law#you've heard of childhood friends to lovers now get ready for childhood enemies to lovers#and when they meet on the boat during the accident Betty thinks he's vaguely familiar#and then when she sees him in the park she realizes OH HEY IT'S JEM!#and he's like *awkward pause* '....hi?'#and then everyone in the neighborhood is like ''Oh that's mount Dunstan. he's a bad lot.''#and Betty is like ''lol no?? like yeah he's grumpy a lot but we worked against the forces of evil together as children#so I can guarantee that he's very much not a jerk like the rest of his family was.''#and everyone's like ''okaaaay then?''#idk I just think it would be funny

me talking about ryusoulger on here

All your characters of the same class (e.g. all your rangers) are stuck together in an escape room.
Which of your "class groups" is off the worst and who gets the job done with no problem?
#edit: yall did this way more detailed than my word salad so lemme redo this class by class as well:#eles: not awful. overall a relatively cooperative group despite very differing personalities.#wouldnt be the fastest in finding the solutions but definitely are getting out of there without casualties or other damages#necros: shit tier dynamics. hostile charr that wants to be left alone vs. volatile chak madman vs. way too gentle sylvari plant#communication would NOT go well but they would make it out (neljje contributes NOTHING to this)#mesmers: nightmare courtier who is out to be as destructive on purpose as possible vs. just some guy vs. tvekks (enough said)#tvekks will suffer but they'll probably make it out. maybe. im unsure.#rangers: actually competent. if we ignore the hostile inquest rat in the room we're left with a competent charr leader and a#very cooperative norn huntsman (and bobbie but he contributes absolutely nothing). they will get out just fine.#engineers: disaster. there might be dead. too many egos in one room and a poor norn who just wants to get out beween everyone fighting#she might jus solve this on her own while the other three are about to slice each other's throats#thieves: absolute hell tier. mordrem sylvari trying to eat everything he can possble dig his teeth into.#a mildly confused human who probably just tries her best while the asura in the room is suffering psychic damage caused by#the mordrem and the charr that will simply not shut up for one second#i do not see ANYONE managing to get a solution in these conditions even if individually they might just be able to.#revs: awkward atmosphere between happy upbeat asura kid and really grumpy charr but they're getting through it#warriors: also a weird clash of personalities but they'd pull their asscheeks together and get out of there#and finally the guardians: no destructive force in here. just two very mature people and a slightly chaotic but otherwise clever bard#absolute dream team coming up with solutions. peace and happiness.#budgie plays gw2

Does c!Punz look for c!Dream in the monarchy restoration AU since c!Dream could not make it to the meeting?
Also how likely is the chance that certain people (c!Quackity and c!Sam) stumble across a certain ex prisoner in Kinoko and what would happen?
I don't think I have given this enough thought, so what I'll say is definitely subject to change in one way or another as I work on the au
Does c!Punz look for c!Dream in the monarchy restoration AU since c!Dream could not make it to the meeting?
Short answer: Yes.
Long answer: He's very concerned for Dream, he was there during the initial prison break and saw Dream running away into the portal and he seemed well enough to make it to their meeting point, so when Dream doesn't show up he panics a litte. He spends the rest of the day waiting and then tries to follow Dream's steps into the Arctic commune and figure out if Dream stayed there with the Syndicate and if not, what happened. There was a snowfall so most of Dream's tracks are unfortunately lost.
Punz has to keep up a facade of searching for Dream, much like the rest of the server, though his reasons to finding him are different to the others. He actually ends up teaming with Sapnap on more than one occasion to search for Dream (which as you can imagine is incredibly awkward for both, as Punz plays the part of a mercenary who just wants the money for Dream's capture and Sapnap who is trying his hardest to throw everyone off so they don't figure out that he is housing the most wanted criminal.)
How likely is the chance that certain people (c!Quackity and c!Sam) stumble across a certain ex prisoner in Kinoko and what would happen?
Given that the events of Quackity's last lore stream where he essentially broke up with Karl are canon in this AU, he isn't likely to go into Kinoko. There are other tensions in Kinoko regarding Quackity, though, and there will be a confrontation later on after Dream Team figure themselves out.
As of Sam, just as I mentioned earlier when talking about Punz, Sapnap is trying his best to throw everyone off their trail. He volunteers for search parties and frequently talks to Sam about the search. Sam knows about the promise Sapnap made and doesn't have a reason not to believe that Sapnap will keep it. Kinoko was also founded after Dream's capture, so unless Dream stumbles upon it by complete accident, he has no reason to be there. Sam believes Sapnap when he tells him that the kingdom is protected and there is no way that Dream is hiding there.
I wanna keep the AU very low conflict at first. The whole point is to examine the Dream Team dynamics if they were to reunite and team up again, even though the whole dynamic is incredibly toxic and unbalanced. Once they do figure themselves out, though, and actually talk, I wanna introduce more characters into the mix :)

"You know, the bathe them and bring them to me trope is such a cliche," the hero said. "I'm disappointed in you."
"Did you enjoy your bath?"
"It was absolutely amazing, and I hate you and your interior decorating and fancy oils so much right now."
The villain smiled. "Anytime."

The hero beelined straight towards the little buffet of post dinner treats the villain had carefully left laying out in plain view. A full dinner would have been too obvious, but the villain figured some hothouse fruits and a chocolate mousse or two would be too tempting for the hero to pass up.
"So what's the plan? Do you need me to stab you or anything when I escape?" the hero said around a mouthful of strawberry cake.
"Please don't. You know I can't bear physical pain." The villain wandered over to help themselves to a kumquat. Mostly it was an excuse to get a closer look at the hero with the blood and grime scrubbed off. Definitely thinner under the villain's brocade bathrobe. And they didn't like those circles under the eyes, the tension in the jaw... "As it happens, I'd appreciate it if you'd make your exit after the guard comes to collect you tomorrow at dawn. Something public and splashy. I need an excuse to execute my guard captain."
The hero choked. The villain sighed. "I mean, fire my guard captain. Fire him."
"[Villain] -!"
"He's one of the usurper's spies." The villain put the kumquat back down on the silver platter. "He's been doing everything he can to undermine my position here, which as you know is rather tenuous."
The hero went still. They swallowed, the motion suddenly large. "Does the usurper suspect you?"
The villain chuckled and poured themselves a generous topple of brandy from the bottle they'd just opened. "The usurper suspects everyone. That's why I need to deflect their ire to another target." As if an afterthought, they poured a second glass and shoved it towards the hero. "I'll make it worth your while to delay. You see, to fend off my crude advances this evening, you're going to get me drunk enough to pass out, and then discover I carelessly left out a few key pieces of correspondence on my desk." The villain turned the hero to face the little secretary desk half hidden behind a damask curtain, taking the opportunity to snake an arm around that waist. Yep, definitely too thin. "If I were you I'd start with the tax shipment schedules."
The hero pushed them off, but gently. "Should I, though?"
The villain blinked. "Should you what?"
The hero picked up the kumquat, rolled it between their fingers as they perched on the bed. "Tell my people I 'stole' the information from you. When your position is tenuous."
The villain made an angry noise that came out a sputter. "Oh, please! Trust that I know what I'm doing-"
"I don't like this." The hero's brow was creased and for a moment they were their old, uncomplicated idealistic self. "I don't like that no one knows how much you're doing, how much you're risking for us-"
"Well for the gods' sakes, don't tell them," the villain said with real alarm. "You have spies in your ranks too."
The hero gave a hollow laugh. "I know. I'm not a fool."
"Yes, you are." The villain sat on the bed beside their old rival, took a lungful of the hero's sweet post-bath scent like a punch to the gut. "You're absolutely a fool for this quixotic quest for... I don't even know. Justice? Freedom?"
The hero raised an eyebrow. "Well, obviously you're the fool for helping me."
"Oh please," the villain sniffed. "Obviously I'm hedging my bets with both sides. I assure you, my actions are entirely self-interest driven."
The hero narrowed their eyes. "Right. And you've suddenly developed a sweet tooth?" Pointedly, they popped the kumquat in their mouth.
The villain tackled them. The hero let out a strangled yelp around the mouthful of fruit.
"There we go, make this sound good." They hauled the hero up higher in the bed, pinned them down to the pillows. It was alarmingly easy. Maybe they could get the hero to take a bag of food with them? "You just stay right there a bit."
The hero glared up. "I'm supposed to be reading your correspondence."
The villain grinned and reached for the bottle of brandy. "Not for another hour. I'm not a lightweight, darling."
As it turned out, the hero dropped off to sleep in three minutes flat. The villain let them sleep, and packaged up the letters to go.

#i stayed away from ball sports as a kid and it's devastating to find i'm not good at them now#my parents drilled in the fact that i wasn't coordinated and i don't know whether they were right or if i just absorbed that into my belief#regardless. i will prevail#even though i am the only girl (the guys are chill but the dynamic is awkward)#and i'm not fast#and i knock on more than i catch the ball (damn it)#and also can't fully assimilate to the team because i already said i won't play tackle#which is not so much that i'm afraid of the contact as i already have knee issues#so i do not feel like a part of the team. nuisance at best ahhhhhh

#i am of two minds#horrible woman at the rosh chodesh meeting said that divorce is inevitably traumatizing to children#i immediately burst out with ''not necessarily!''#i have problems but my parents' divorce has had zero impact on them one way or the other#and i probably would've been traumatized to learn that my parents stayed together not wanting to just for me and essentially#faked a relationship??#sounds more traumatizing???#plus i know a lot of ppl who Knew that their parents were not a good team growing up and wish their parents had split#i'm not saying divorce can't be traumatic for children#but imo the kinds of relationship dynamics that lead some ppl to get divorced are what is traumatic not the divorce itself#if it even is traumatic!#it wasn't even a stigmatized thing where i grew up like half my friends' parents were also divorced#i'm just so mad that this woman is a therapist and presumably is advocating that couples stay together when they shouldn't#BUT i think i made the rosh chodesh meeting awkward/shut down interesting/productive conversation#and i wish i could've found a way to respond to the situation that was more productive and less defensive

i think it’s very much like you’ve said: both hyuk and Patrick fragmented, shells of the ppl they used to be….whereas hyuk is even more belligerent, apathetic, and isolated from the world around him, Patrick is more anxious, jumpy, and even quieter….the last five years have NOT been kind to them…😭 and yet they’re both still hyper focused on their respective goals ( hyuk: finding out the truth behind his best friend’s death and Patrick: protecting hyuk by taking down ANACHRON ). And by being fixated on these goals, they justify the ( very self destructive ) lifestyles they lead.
something important to consider here is that when they do reunite, it doesn’t necessarily mean that they’ll revert back to the ppl they were before Patrick’s ‘death’…..I can’t speak for hyuk ( although any emotions good or bad he might feel is COMPLETELY VALID….patrick did lie to him and he suffered for five years over that lie ), but I know Patrick, when he initially reunites with hyuk, will have to acclimate to being emotionally vulnerable with another person. like of course, hyuk can still read him like an open book but it’s one thing to be able to read the book…..it’s another thing to be GIVEN THE BOOK to read if that makes any sense….basically, at the beginning patrick will definitely be hiding ( or at least try to hide ) the depth of his feelings/how he’s been coping with, well everything bc that’s something he would be mortified for hyuk to find out 😭 along with that, Patrick also has to relearn every detail about his dear friend bc it’s not just hyuk who has to readjust what he knows about patrick...hyuk has also changed drastically in the last five years- good thing this is a topic patrick is very passionate about studying JFKSLFJKSL
but….BUT I do genuinely think their rekindled friendship ( and eventually something else too ) is something that will be GOOD for the both of them. for one thing, hyuk has something to lose again, but in patrick’s case, he feels like his sense of peace was taken in those last five years, so i think being around hyuk, someone he feels completely safe and at ease with, would in a way give him back some of that peace, if that makes any sense...? basically i think in being each other’s home, it wouldn’t necessarily fix each of them, but in wanting to be there for the other, i feel like their relationship would encourage each of them to begin to piece themselves back together....not necessarily into the ppl they were before, but more into people who are stabler and overall, happier...but YEAH I JUST...hyuk has always been a cornerstone in patrick’s life and especially in light of what patrick has gone through, he understandably would want to find home again. but not just ANY home, he wants the one that makes him feel safest and the comfiest aka hyuk and so in this sense, the only two ppl i could see patrick ending up with in this verse is either hyuk or felicity...but felicity’s dead, so hyuk sorry ur stuck him 4 life 🙃
BUT IN TERMS OF JUST?? THE TOUCH BARRIER?? if hyuk is more prone to breaking it, pls expect patrick, once he acclimates to being around hyuk and knows hyuk will be around for the long run, to be even MORE shameless about giving and wanting affection from hyuk via touch bc a. hyuk needs the reassurance that patrick is here in flesh and b. hyuk’s presence reassures and calms him, great for the paranoia really. ( also just patrick holding hyuk back and like, at first just being surprised that hyuk actually stopped...also pls catch patrick in this verse to be stopping hyuk from fighting via hugs WAY MORE OFTEN 🥲 ) BUT...just expect patrick to be brushing shoulders and knees with hyuk alot, wanting to hold hyuk’s hand a lot, and a TON of resting against hyuk’s shoulder bc he’s TIRED and REALLY WANTS TO REST ON A PILLOW CALLED HYUK’S SHOULDER IS THAT TOO MUCH TO ASK FOR 😭😭😭

Been reading a bunch of thrillers recently and what if cm fic with Penny as the main character just experiencing as much of that as my angst adverse heart can take? More on this when my brain allows it
#I'm thinking we get heck flirty Derek and Penelope#friends with feelings penemily#spencer/penelope besties#awkward Derek Spencer dynamic as they realise feelings because Derek flirts so heavily with Penelope and doesn't know how to flirt w/Spencer#and Penelope is watching this all happen like 'aw my sweet little idiots'#but at the same time she's becoming more and more unsettled by Events#and she's trying so hard to be cool about it#and they're working on a case (have been for a while bc it's slow and on the backburner) that starts to feel a little too#uncanny#a little too relatable#and now she feels like an idiot because she hasn't told the team and she should know better that's ao stupid of her#but when she goes to bring it up with anyone she feels like she's being silly and drawing their scary work into her daily life#and maybe she just needs to Chill Out#but also maybe she tells Emily and asks her to keep her fear secret bc she feels stupid and it's all probably fine#and Emily earns her trust by doing so#but at what cost?#god I want to read it and it's devastating I have to write it first

Don’t think I’ve mentioned this before but Rera’s the godmother of her former teammate/pain in the ass/ex-boyfriend’s daughter Kaede, their other teammate Tenri Nara is Kaede’s godfather. To make things a lot less complicated she's just called an 'auntie'. Kaede’s a sweet kid who doesn’t like the whole being a noble thing and wants to be a shinobi just like her dad used to be and Rera spoils the heck out of her, sending her gifts, letters and the like on a weekly basis. Whenever Kaede comes over to Konoha, Rera just shows her off, often talking about how awesome her 'niece' is, it’d be cute if it wasn’t so annoying.
