The music that binds the Guardians together came from Peter Quill, but Rocket is the first one to understand its full importance. Right from the beginning of Vol. 2, he's setting up the boom box "so we can listen to tunes while we work," when even Quill says it's not a priority. Later, he requests a soundtrack for his and Yondu's epic takedown of the Ravagers. It's not just fun, it's strategy: music distracts the enemy and helps the team vibe together.
When Rocket's listening to the Zune in the Vol. 3 opening, the first part of "Creep" is for Rocket's ears alone, but then he sets it to play through Knowhere's speakers so everyone can hear the song. He does the same thing at the end to kick off the dance party. To him it's not Peter's music, or Mom's, or Yondu's. It's everyone's music.
Peter was always willing to tell everyone he ever met that music and dancing were the greatest things in the universe, but until the very end, he saw them as his personal connections to the past and to his late loved ones. His real growth came when he realized that he had already given the Guardians a meaningful legacy, and that his best friend was ready to take over. He's right that Rocket will be a better leader than he ever was, but Rocket wouldn't have gotten there without Peter and his Walkman.
That's some beautiful music, there.

I had a very productive week, and an even more productive weekend!
I worked on Awesome Mix Vol. 1, my story following Peter's life growing up with the Ravagers, and posted Chapter 4 on Wednesday. Chapter 5 will be posted this coming Wednesday, 03/27/2024. I also finished writing Chapter 10 and wrote all of Chapter 11, so I just have one more chapter to write, and then the story will be complete!
I have been working on Sparkling Eyes and Cigarette Burns, my Dad!Sam fic, and I have to warn you, I’m making some changes to the Men of Letters Bunker. I’m still using the floor plan as a reference but… well, it’s fanfiction. I can do what I want (to an extent). I am just so excited for my boys to finally have a home! Liam’s gonna have his own bedroom!
Did quite a bit on the original works front! I got some work done on Collision Course and really restructured a couple of the chapters. I also worked a bit on something I am temporarily calling ‘Unknown,’ which started as a biblically accurate Supernatural fanfiction and somehow became a story about an angel and a human who has schizoaffective disorder working together to fight demons all across America. So, similar, but different. As for Cataclysm, I am meeting with my sister (who is a published author) on Tuesday to start working on a game plan, and while I don’t have a release date yet, I am looking at September 2024. So there are lots of exciting things going on!

So I read some ✨spicy✨Peter Quill head cannons, i don’t remember the OP but if you’re reading this, thank you for blessing my brain. ANYWAY, one of them said that Peter 100% had a sex playlist. Which I 100% agree with, because I feel like the concept of a sex playlist is SO Quill coded. THAT.BEING.SAID.

There’s no franchise in the superhero subgenre as linked to music like James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy. More than a traditional score, the pop music Gunn infuses in his space opera comic book movies have become synonymous with the Guardians movies’ identity. As much as there is anticipation for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, there has been equal hype around what will be on the last soundtrack — the Awesome Mix Volume 3. Thankfully, ahead of the last installment, James Gunn and Marvel Studios have officially released the soundtrack ahead of the movie.
Before we get into what’s featured on the track list, a quick note about needle drops in movies. There’s a unique relationship between movies and soundtracks. If done well, songs enhance any given scene as subtext, tapping into a given character’s internal or external circumstances. It can even give the audience a further insight into who a character is — for instance if a song is introduced diegetically as a character turns on a song, it could express the type of person they are. Some of the best directors are uniquely known for how they curate their soundtracks together. Martin Scorsese, Quentin Tarantino, Edgar Wright, and Wes Anderson are just a few well-known directors who do this exceptionally. And then, there’s James Gunn and the Awesome Mix.
