Im not sorry but people who keep treating Neytiri as "psycho" and "racist" and "evil" for how she treated Spider clearly do not understand how racism, trauma, nor colonialism works lmao

Avatar way of traumatizing Spider. He faced death twice within the span of a few months. He didn't fight as the woman he wants as a mother tries to kill him. He didn't say anything as he was tortured with the machine. Jake may have said he was a tough kid but this speaks of a character with true resilience. To come out the other side of trauma stronger. The knot that ties this narrative, and families together is strong.

Jake: Is that why you left?
Spider who decided to go with Quaritch after he recognized the neglect he suffered: nods silently.
Jake: You did good to go. I thought I rejected this family, but if you're happy with him, then I guess we're the ones who rejected you.

The Captive - Chapter 19
Chapter 18. Chapter 20
Another bigger one!
Enjoy, and prepare for hurt 💙
The rest of the Sully family was already eating by the time Kiri joined them. She silently grabbed a bowl of stew before joining them.
In the past, dinner had always been a lively affair for the Sullys. It was the one meal of the day that all of them regularly attended, and it was always a lively event. Lo’ak would do something stupid with his food, making Tuk fall over laughing while Neteyam cringed silently. Kiri would share something fascinating she’d discovered about the local fauna. Their parents might tell them stories about when they were little, or even from before. It was their time for bonding.
But things were different since the battle. Neteyam’s weighed heavy in the air whenever they ate. And for Kiri, the knowledge that Spider was eating alone, too scared to even be next to them was equally heart-wrenching.
Most of dinner was now conducted in an awkward silence. Whatever conversations occurred were brief and stilted, usually intended to just break the silence. Much was left unsaid.
As per usual, it was her father who tried to strike something up.
“How’s your brother, Lo’ak?”
Lo’ak had taken Neteyam’s near-death the hardest. The first few days after the battle, he had been inseparable from his brother’s side, insisting on eating his meals, and even sleeping next to him. Now that his condition was more stable, Lo’ak had started having meals and occasionally working with them again, but he looked older, worn down in a way nobody his age should be.
“He’s…doing good. He looks better…I think.”
Jake nodded, and the silence returned.
Kiri internally braced herself when her dad turned to her. Her relationship with Jake was…complicated at the moment. She had once thought her father was nearly infallible. Once, it had always seemed like he knew the right thing to do, that he knew how to fix everything.
How wrong she’d been.
“Kiri. You were a bit late. Is something going on?”
“I was with Spider.” She replied simply, not bothering to make eye contact.
Everyone around the fire grew slightly tense at Spider’s name. None of them had talked about what happened on the ship yet. But all of them remembered.
“Again?” asked Jake. “I thought you went to see him earlier.”
Kiri gripped her bowl slightly tighter at her father’s pushing. She did not want to talk about Spider with him.
“I was with him all day today.” She stated flatly.
“Oh. Uhm…what did you do?”
Like you care.
“We went out on an ilu.”
Kiri didn’t even think about explaining everything else that had happened that day. Her parent’s would probably, no, definitely make everything worse. And besides, she had promised, to two people now…
“You should not be around him so much.” Her mom spoke up. “You know he has the demon’s blood. He is more dangerous with his father here.”
Kiri’s already firm gripped tightened until her knuckles were nearly white. She had to take a deep breath to stop herself from snapping back.
Her father didn’t miss her frustration.
“Kiri…”
Jake looked between his daughter and his mate. Eventually, he let out a long sigh.
“Just…be careful…okay?”
Kiri wanted to say something to her dad, but Tuk spoke up before she could.
“Spider isn’t dangerous. He’s nice!”
Some of the tension left the air when the child spoke.
“Why doesn’t Spider eat with us anymore? He’s here now! I miss him!”
Everyone looked at the youngest child sadly. How could they possibly hope to explain everything to her?
“Spider is…” Jake began, but he didn’t know how to continue.
“Spider is dealing with some things.” Kiri decided to finish the sentence. It was as close to the truth as she wanted to go with Tuk. “He just can’t eat with us for now…okay?”
Her little sister looked unsatisfied with the answer, but she nodded.
The rest of the dinner passed in silence. Once they had all finished, they got up and began to go their separate ways. Lo’ak began heading back to the infirmary. Tuk went with her parents towards their Marui.
Jake looked to Kiri, expecting her to follow too, but she stayed behind.
“Kiri, you coming?”
“I’m sleeping outside today.” She replied. “It’s nice out now that the storm is gone.”
Jake quickly whispered to Tuk to go with her mother, then walked back over to Kiri.
“Is this about what your mother said? About Spider?”
Her father’s tone was sympathetic, but at this point Kiri knew not to trust it. He just didn’t understand. Or didn’t want to.
“I told you. I just want to sleep outside.” Kiri tried to convey she wasn’t interested in the conversation, but Jake didn’t give up.
“Kiri, you have to understand that your mom has been through a lot. Even before you were born, her sister and her dad were…”
Kiri had heard the story before.
“Killed by the sky-people.”
“Then you understand why…”
“No, I don’t.” Kiri replied harshly. She got up to leave.
“Kiri, just wait…”
Kiri ignored her dad. She’d had this same conversation before, and it always went the same way. She didn’t even want to bother anymore.
She took deep breaths to cool down as she walked to Spider’s sleeping nook. She had already planned on sleeping next to him tonight, and her mom’s comments had only strengthened her decision.
How much more could this go on? How much more would they just dance around the real problem? Kiri didn’t know how much more she could take it.
She finally reached the root. She quietly climbed up careful not to wake Spider, who was already asleep. She smiled when she saw he’d left a blanket for her, leaving him only one to cover himself with in the chilly night.
She could have sworn she’d given him three…
Oh right…
The day’s events began to replay in her mind as she lay down next to Spider. He stirred slightly as she spread the second blanket over the both of them.
“Hmm…?”
“It’s just me, Spider.” She whispered. “Go back to sleep.”
She moved herself a bit closer to Spider as he pulled his blanket tighter.
Spider breaths soon grew slower once again. Kiri took a moment to look at him before she closed her own eyes.
Today had been…a lot. But she didn’t regret any of it. She’d finally started to see the Spider she once knew coming back.
She’d finally started to see him happy again.
(…)
Spider surfaced again, holding another basket of moss, collected from the reef beneath them.
“15 minutes underwater, Spider. You’re putting all the Metkayina to shame!” Kiri smiled as she took his basket.
“I have a mask, it doesn’t count.”
“And they have special tails and arms. It’s fair in my view!” Kiri called as Spider got ready to dive again.
Despite the mask, he instinctively took a deep breath, then ducked back beneath the calm waters to collect more various growths from the reef.
The work was mundane, mind-numbing, even, but it was still far better than his days before. It felt…good. Knowing that he was contributing to the village, however small his actions.
He took a moment to catch his breath as he reached the sea floor. With his mask providing oxygen, he wasn’t on a clock like the Na’vi were. He could spend hours down here if he wanted to. He looked around at the reef, various tiny creatures swimming between its small canyons and mountains. It was strangely peaceful, watching the animals go about their day in the quiet of the ocean.
He saw a shadow pass over him and realized that Kiri was swimming down to join him.
Right, the moss.
They still had one more basket to fill with plants before the day was over.
When the work was finally done, Spider surfaced for the final time that day.
“Is that it?”
“What, you want to get more?” Kiri asked teasingly.
“Just making sure.” Spider absolutely did not want more. Even with his mask, the work was hard. He’d never swam so much, and so hard in his life. Every part of him ached as they rode the ilu back to Awa’atlu.
“What do we do with all these plants?” Asked Spider.
“The Metkayina will deal with most of them. We just have to take the txay’ewell to the infirmary.” Explained Kiri, gesturing to the sheet-like seaweed the Metkayina used to make bandages.
But Spider tensed at the mention of the infirmary, and Kiri noticed.
“What’s wrong, Spider?”
“It’s…just…Neteyam. He’s there.”
Kiri frowned.
“You still haven’t been to see him?”
Spider shook his head. He hadn’t even been near the infirmary since that first day after the battle. It just didn’t feel right.
“I think you should come.” Said Kiri. “Neteyam would want you there.”
Not if he knew what I did, Spider thought. But he didn’t want to make Kiri carry it all alone, so he nodded in agreement.
They made their way through the late-afternoon heat. Most of the Metkayina were still out doing their tasks, so the village was quiet.
When they finally reached the infirmary, Kiri placed her basket of txay’ewell in a corner, surrounded by various other medicinal plants. Spider did the same, but as he turned to leave, Kiri put a hand on his shoulder.
“Spider…you should go see him.”
The boy closed his eyes. He knew this moment was coming eventually. Just the thought made him nervous. But he couldn’t tell Kiri now. He still did care about Neteyam and the other Sullys, he couldn’t walk away.
“Okay.” Spider replied quietly.
With Kiri next to him, he slowly made his way to the bed where Neteyam still lay. A pit formed in his stomach as he approached the older boy’s unconscious form.
He looked better than before. Color had returned to his face, which seemed less gaunt than before, though his cheeks were still sunken. His breathing sounded better do. It still sounded…weak. But it was no longer choked and rattly, the way it had been as he lay on the blood-covered rocks…
Spider’s stomach twisted at the memory. Neteyam still bore the marks of what had happened to him clearly. Much of his torso was wrapped in thick bandages, and a pair of tubes still protruded from his arm.
And he still showed no sign of waking.
Spider felt a familiar guilt wash over him as he was faced with the sight. It wasn’t fair, that Neteyam had been the one to get hurt. Neteyam had always been so…perfect. He was strong, kind, honest. He wasn’t a fuck-uplike Spider was. He had put himself at risk to un-fuck Spider’s situation, and he’d been the one to take a bullet because of it.
Because of Spider.
Tears came to Spider’s eyes as the thought entered his head. He placed a hand on Neteyam’s chest, feeling the weak heartbeat beneath it.
“I’m sorry, Neteyam.” He whispered, barely audible even in the quiet infirmary.
“It’s okay, Spider.” Whispered Kiri from behind.
Spider leaned into the hand she had on her shoulder, but he didn’t voice his thoughts. He wouldn’t want to make her more worried than she already was. Spider knew what he’d already told her was…tough.
For a while, he closed his eyes, feeling Neteyam’s heartbeat. A small confirmation that his failures hadn’t come at the ultimate price. It was still something…
Spider snapped back to reality when he heard footsteps approaching.
He couldn’t be seen here.
In a panic, he quickly pushed Kiri’s hand off his shoulder and turned to leave, but it was too late.
Jake and Lo’ak were already at the entrance, and behind them…
Neytiri.
Spider tensed when he met her icy stare.
For a moment, everyone held their breath, staring at either Spider or Neytiri. The tension could be cut with a knife.
Neytiri spoke before anyone else did.
“What are you doing here, demon?” The words were spoken as a hiss.
Spider tried to say something, but his mouth felt frozen in its current position. His entire body did.
Neytiri pushed past Jake and Lo’ak, walking up to Spider.
“Mom, no!” Kiri yelled, but Neytiri ignored her, clearly enraged.
“How dare you come here! How dare you touch my son!” Neytiri was practically screaming as she grabbed Spider’s shoulder, her grip like iron.
Spider could only let out a choked cry of fear as he looked into Neytiri’s eyes. His heart felt like it would shatter through his ribs. The memory of the battle played clearly in his mind, as if it was happening in that moment. The hatred in Neytiri’s eyes. The knife cutting across his chest…
“How dare you touch my son, demon!?”
For a moment, Spider was overwhelmed by terror. He was drowning in it. He was vaguely aware of Kiri saying something. He felt Neytiri’s arm get pulled away.
His instincts launched in action as soon as he could move. He desperately ran for the entrance, still dizzy from the fear.
“Spider, wait! Please!” Spider heard Kiri call behind him, but he ignored it.
He charged blindly through the village, uncaring about where he went. He could barely see, anyways. Tears clouded his eyes.
He just had to get away. Far away from everyone.
Spider eventually stumbled onto a beach and fell to his knees. For a moment, he held his breath, listening closely for footsteps behind him. In his state, he half-expected Neytiri to leap after him and finish what she started.
Finally, once his mind had cleared a bit, and he was certain nobody was after him, he let out a ragged gasp. Then another. His head was spinning.
On his third attempt to breath, he lost the little food he had in his stomach.
As he hyperventilated, he looked down at his sick, and realized his hands were trembling. In fact, his entire body was shaking.
He kept trying to regulate his breathing.
In, out.
In, out.
In, out.
When his heart finally began to slow, his gasps gradually became sobs as regret and shame washed over him like a wave.
How could he have been so stupid?
He had no right to visit Neteyam.
He had no right to be with Kiri.
Not after everything.
He should have known trying to be close to Kiri, or any of the Sullys, could only lead to more pain. He had known this, but Kiri had made him so…hopeful that things could change. He had deluded himself into believing it could actually happen. That’s what he had been: delusional.
He was not a Sully.
He was not one of the people.
He was part of nothing.
He had let himself forget, and now reality had punched him in the face.
Spider quietly sobbed as he fell to his side on the sand.
The feelings were nothing new to him now. But the past two days with Kiri had been so…amazing. For a brief moment, he had truly felt at home. Having it ripped away from him again made it all the more painful.
Stupid.
Eventually, he forced himself to get up from the sand. It was night, and he had to sleep somewhere. Spider couldn’t return to his sleeping nook. Not tonight. Kiri would certainly be waiting for him. She’d probably apologize, and reassure him, and hug him as he fell asleep. Kiri would probably be up all night, waiting for him to return…
Spider sobbed again at the thought. He wanted to see her. He desperately needed the comfort, but he knew now more than ever before why he couldn’t accept it. It could only lead to more pain, both to him and the Sullys.
He had to stop hurting the Sullys. He had to stay away, for Kiri’s sake as much as his own.
It broke his heart in yet more pieces, but he started walking, more stumbling, in the opposite direction of the village.
He eventually settled on a small pit; half overhung by a rock. It offered basic protection from the cool breeze, but little more.
It’s not like it mattered though. Whenever Spider closed his eyes, all he could see was Neytiri’s piercing stare, full of rage and hatred. He trembled again, though not from the chilly night air.
It’s not like he was going to sleep anyways.
Nothing like crushing Spider’s hopes just when they’d started to rise...😭
I was initially hesitant writing Neytiri in this, because I didn’t know if she'd actually be this mean to Spider. But then I remembered this the the AU where she held him hostage first, so yeah.
I also wanted to include some interaction between the Sullys, since I realized Lo’ak, Tuk, and Neytiri have had basically zero dialogue this story. They’re having their own struggles too!
Hope you liked the chapter, it felt good going back to some serious angst. 😈💙

Tonowari and Ronal treating Quaritch like the troublesome little brother/cousin/nephew that every family has.
Like the don't adopted him, teenage brain or not he's technically an adult, but it doesn't mean that everyone looks to them when it comes to handling Quaritch.
yeah, tonowari totally vouched for him when he left the RDA, which made him permanently his problem. so now it's like having the stupidest, most head strong, intelligent yet hopelessly reckless teenager, who is also in a very adult, very strong, and very resilient body. let's just say tonowari is tired.
Ronal detests him at first, but eventually she finds a partner in crime in Quaritch, hence, the bitchy wine mom's vibe I get from them. at first they gossip about each other, but find much more common ground, in gossiping and plotting against others.
again, tonowari is tired, he needs a break from the antics.

Neytiri and Spider
As part of my Spider brainrot, I can't help but keep thinking his relationship to Neytiri.
While I wholeheartedly disagree with Neytiri's treatment of Spider throughout his life, seeing as he was a CHILD and not responsible for anything that happened to her or her people, I GET IT. Spider is a physical manifestation of Neytiri's trauma, a trauma trigger if you will. And he's around her and her family as long as possible every day, and her kids are always with him. It must be hard to watch considering everything she's gone through with the loss of her sister, her father, the destruction of her home. I can't get behind her attitude towards Spider but I understand it.
I have to think though that Neytiri has to have SOME self-awareness of Spider not actually being responsible for her trauma, and just being a kid. I think if she had no awareness whatsoever, she would have absolutely forbade him to play with her kids or even get near the Na'vi at all. I'm sure she could do it. But I think the part of her brain that could still think clearly about Spider through her cloud of hatred was the one to concede to Jake about Spider playing with her kids and allowing him close by. Especially later when the RDA returns, I'm sure her trauma was re-triggered and it had to have soured her tolerance of Spider, but we still see him at High Camp interacting with the kids and touching their ikrans as they dismount after the attack on the train. I think she's too deeply affected by what she has been through and has not really had time to process it, so tolerance and leniency is all she feels she can offer Spider during his life.
But she clearly didn't tolerate him enough to go back for him when he got captured by the RDA (neither did Jake but that's for another post). In my mind, I think she saw her family in danger, prioritized, and decided Spider wasn't one of her priorities. Which again is understandable given her experiences but still wrong towards a child.
But the moment in the movie that really gets me thinking hard on Neytiri's relation to Spider is the moment on the boat when she has a knife to his throat. Again, a horrible thing to do to Spider for so many reasons, but I GET IT. Kiri was being held at knifepoint, she'd just lost the child that made her a mother, and she wasn't about to lose her second. I think Neytiri had every intention of going through with her threat if Quarritch didn't release Kiri. I really do. We all know that Neytiri is as ruthless as she is passionate and loving, and I really think that in that state of rage and grief and fear, she would have killed Spider had Kiri not been returned to her.
But then she cuts Spider's chest, and I am very tempted to think that that action, actually drawing Spider's blood, was somewhat of a wakeup call for her in that 'what was she doing threatening a child? A child who's known her all his life?' But she can't back down yet because Kiri hasn't been released. The reason I think she had this kind of light bulb moment upon cutting him is because of the fact that she pushes Spider BEHIND HER when Kiri is released. She could have easily been rid of this presence in her life that is a constant reminder of her pain and loss, could have just surrendered him to Quarritch, but she decides instead to push him behind her protectively. In my mind, I think it's maybe an inkling of Neytiri's motherly instinct kicking in, that no matter her distaste for the kid, he was still a child, and she would never hand over a child to the demon himself. I also think that the shock of actually hurting Spider made her really LISTEN to Spider and Kiri begging for each other's lives, and realize that if she did this, Kiri would never forgive her, Spider had no care for himself in the face of Kiri's danger, and she would have committed a crime so great Eywa wouldn't forgive her for it.
That is to me, how I view that moment on the boat. I think that Neytiri and Spider's relationship is very interesting because of how loaded it is, and I really hope that subsequent movies actually develop their relationship in an interesting direction instead of a flat continuation of her hatred for him. Their relationship has the potential to be incredibly nuanced and tender if given the chance and developed properly. I hope that this moment and Neteyam's death become some sort of catalyst for her to re-examine her relationship with Spider and what she has put him through. Like, the realization that this boy is only a year older than Neteyam who died in a war he was too young to fight in and that Spider is also too young to fight in and be responsible for is what I want to happen. I also see them finding some alliance in the fact that they would both do anything for Kiri.
Essentially, I want Neytiri to come to SEE Spider. I think that if James Cameron doesn't do that in the next movies, it's a dishonor to Neytiri's character and he would be making her into a flat character, which she most certainly is not.

Being raised by the scientists with Spider wasn’t your idle choice. It’s not that you didn’t like Spider, Norm, or Max because you do, but you wish you could’ve been raised with your sister and her family. Every time you see Kiri and her family bonding or doing normal domestic things, you feel a little envious because you wish you had a family like hers, just people who are blood relatives and look similar to you. Yes, Kiri is your blood sister, but she’s Na’vi, a hybrid. And some nights, you wished you would’ve been born a hybrid too so you could live out the luxuries she has.
You so love when Kiri and her siblings invite you and Spider to their marui to hang out with them. It’s always fun to be around them because in addition to Kiri, the rest of her siblings treat you as if you are their sister as well. They would look out for you, protect you if anyone ever tries to bully you, and most of all love you.
As of this moment you are frolicking in the forest, taking a break from being in the biolab all day. As you see the Sully family marui from a distance, you wonder if they’re home so you and the Sully kids could hang out. As you walk to the entrance, about to lift open the flap, you hear Neytiri raising her voice, which makes you retreat your hand and listen to what she is saying.
“I do not want that demon in my home, Jake. She is not one of us!” She hisses, her tail thrashing in the air as she tells Jake how she feels about your presence in her home.
“‘tiri, we can’t just not let her come over. She’s Kiri’s sister and the rest of the kids see her as one.”
“I do not care! She is not Na’vi, she is one of them.” As you listen to the rest of Neytiri’s rant, she talks about how much she dislikes you and that she feels like you could infect her children with your “demon ways”. Hearing her talk so poorly about you makes you feel like stones are sinking deep in your heart. Your head is spinning, filled with all Neytiri’s harsh words. Instead of walking in and telling her and Jake how you feel about what you just heard, you run into the forest at full speed with tears freely flowing down your cheeks.
You run, and run, and run. The forest is never ending, you always find a different path to turn to. You just can’t have any idea that this path would cause you a worse traumatic experience than what you just heard. As you run, the sound of bushes being shaken echoes in the forest. You turn your head and within a split second, your life flashes before your eyes. An angry Palulukan jumps out of its hiding place and pounces on your small, frail body.
You scream and cry out in pain as it attacks you, praying to Eywa that someone hears your loud piercing cry or your screams of pure terror. The Palulukan digs its claws in your skin, scratching every place they have access to, all but the one action that makes your body shut down completely.
As Neytiri walks through the forest, bow in hand trying to find a Yerik to cook her family for dinner, she sees droplets of blood along the grass. She tracks the trail, the blood splatters grow larger which makes her think it’s just a random animal that got dragged along the ground once it was killed, but that idea was busted once she saw your lifeless looking body sprawled across the forest floor.
“Y/N!” She immediately drops her bow and runs over to you. When she lays your body in her lap, she watches your chest slowly rise, indicating the flicker of life you still got, but your shallow breathing worries her. Your body is covered in numerous wounds and you are losing ample amounts of blood by every passing second. She frantically picks you up and runs into the village to get you some help.
“Jake! Ma’Jake!” Neytiri knows Jake is somewhere in the village because today is the day he usually does his rounds to make sure everything is running smoothly. When he finally hears her, he runs up with a worried expression, which turns to terror upon seeing your current state.
“What the hell happened?!”
“I found her like this in the forest. It looks like she got attacked by an animal.”
“We need to get her to the lab now! If she doesn’t get there soon she will die!” Jake scoops you out of Neytiri’s arms and runs you to the bio lab, hoping that Norm and Max would be able to save you.
__
When Jake brought you to the lab, the scientists immediately went to work, doing everything they could to keep you in the land of the living. They rushed you into surgery and it took hours, they didn’t know if you were going to survive due to all the blood you lost and how severe your injuries were, but by the grace of Eywa, you pulled through.
When the Sully Family hear the news that you are going to be okay, a sense of relief and joy washes over them. When it is okay for you to have visitors, all of them swarm by your bedside.
“Sister, I’m so glad you’re okay.” Kiri is so happy that Eywa spared your life, she didn’t know what she would do without you. The rest of the Sully kids and even Jake shows how much they missed you and that they are glad you made it through. Your body is still pretty banged up. Lots of bruises and gashes, but they’ll heal eventually, which you were happy about because you don’t want to be bed-ridden for too long.
You talk to them for almost two hours, laughing and talking about fun memories you’ve all had together. As you laugh at something Lo’ak said, the door to your room opens. When you see Neytiri walk inside, your whole demeanor changes. No more laughs or smiles, just Neytiri words playing over and over in your head about how much of a nuisance you are.
Neytiri comes by your bed, asking you how you feel, but you don’t respond. Instead you look in the opposite direction, not wanting to look at her pretend she cares about you. As everyone watches the interaction between you and Neytiri they get confused as to why you are acting cold towards her because you’ve always been happy to see and talk to Neytiri.
“y/n, I just wanted to see if you were okay.” She genuinely wants to know how you are doing because seeing how brutally injured you were made a feeling of concern rise within her.
You scoff at her words and roll your eyes. You don't want to hear anything she has to say and her talking to you as if she never called you a demon makes you upset. “Neytiri, I don’t want you here.” Before Neytiri can respond, you add another sentence to your previous statement. “I heard everything you said today. If you feel so strongly about me, I don’t want you standing here as if you care for me.” Neytiri and Jake's eyes widen as they realize you heard their conversation.
Neytiri feels her heart drop to the pit of her stomach knowing that you heard her harsh words. It took this experience to happen and for her to see how much the rest of her family loves you to try and come around to the idea of you being around them, but now it’s too late. The seed of her hatred has already been planted.
“y/n, I did not mean-”
“Stop, Neytiri, okay?! Just stop! You meant everything you said. Saying that I’m a demon, that I could infect your children with my wicked ways, not one thing you said about me was good.” When the kids hear that, you can hear gasps from around the room. They didn’t know their mother said those things or felt that way about you.
“You know Neytiri, I’ve looked up to you for years. I saw you as a mother figure, so to hear you talk so poorly of me hurts to the core. The hurt I feel can’t be fixed and you’re the one who inflicted it upon me. I couldn’t believe you would say those things about me, sometimes I thought you saw me as a daughter like how you see Kiri but I was wrong.” Whenever Neytiri had duties within the village or doing an activity at home like weaving, cooking, or cleaning, you were right by her side watching her as if she was the most perfect woman on Pandora. Neytiri gave you a sense of motherly nurturing that you couldn’t get from the scientists which made you glued to her.
Neytiri never knew you felt this way and she didn’t know the impact she had on your life until now. As you talk, your tone is cold and sharp, your words twisting knives into her heart. She wishes she could take back each word she said about you, but that’s not the way things work. The words were already out in the atmosphere and have resonated with you.
The whole room is silent. There are so many things said and everyone is trying to get a grasp of the situation. Neytiri tells you that she is sorry and that she finally sees you for who you are: a sweet soul who is a part of their family, but you don’t want to hear that, at least not now. A few days ago, if you would’ve heard that, you would’ve been ecstatic, but now her words mean nothing.
“Leave. I don’t want to see you anymore.” You turn your back to Neytiri and close your eyes, not wanting to cry in front of her and show how much emotional pain you are in from her words.
Neytiri is going to say something, but Jake comes behind her and places his hand on her shoulder, telling her that you need space.
When she looks at her children, each one of them gives her mean glares, highly upset about how she treated you. Neytiri sighs before leaving the room and walking back to her marui. And as she walks back, she prays that you and her children would forgive her, but only Eywa knows if your forgiveness should be given.

Look at how happy Spider is in this BTS shot for A3! I bet he's flying on an ikran with Kiri :)
Analysis of the image:
He's now wearing a Metkayina style loincloth, he has a tooth necklace like the one Rotxo wears instead of the Omaticaya choker, and he has a new exopack strap to replace the standard issue RDA one he wore while with Quaritch. It looks like he's been living with the reef people for a little bit and they've given him Metkayina clothing. The person connected to the ikran behind him could be literally anybody, it's impossible to tell without the CGI, but the fake Na'vi leg doesn't look that much bigger than Spider's leg so I would guess it's one of the teens, probably Kiri or possibly Lo'ak. I also notice that Spider's leg has a bloody scratch so I wonder if he just came from an action scene. He also still has a mark from when Neytiri cut him, so it looks like it's a permanent scar, he's always going to have a physical reminder of that night now :( it's a family curse at this point, OG-Quaritch had a face scar, Spider's got a chest scar, and recom-Quaritch is emotionally scared from Neytiri's arrows lol.
If I had to guess, I think this shot must be early on in Avatar 3, because he doesn't have the topknot hairstyle, V-shape painted on his forehead, or the Metkayina harness he's shown wearing in his official character poster (the character poster is pretty obviously a shot from A3, because he never looked like this in A2). He IS shown with the same tooth necklace he has in his character poster, so I think this could be the beginning of him getting accepted by the Metkayina clan and upgrading his outfit. I can't wait to see it in 2025!

🕸️🕷️ Weaving the Web 🕷️🕸️
Chapter 17: Let No One In & No One Gets Out
TW: Mention of Suicide
Spider spent the next three days not leaving the apartment for anything. He’d covered the mirror in the bathroom with a towel after washing it multiple times. As if there was any way for him to forget the cryptic words from Eywa knew who...
He was afraid to go to sleep, worried whoever wrong the message might come back. Whoever wrote the message made him feel something he’d never experienced before...
Paranoid.
Despite losing energy from not sleeping, Spider wasn’t making up for it with his appetite. The day after he found the message, he was so stressed he forgot to eat entirely. The stomach pangs were suppressed by thoughts and theories about who could have written it. He had no friends on base with the recoms out on mission. But he hadn’t showered since before they left, so could one of them have written it? Did one of the alters write it? Or did HE write it and completely forget?
Could Spider not even trust himself anymore...? Was he losing time or memories, even when he was in control?
His stomach growled angrily and he growled right back at it.
Letting out a frustrated sigh, Spider slammed his feet down on the floor and wandered the few feet into the kitchen to look through the cabinets for the eighth time that day. And he would likely go back to the next of blankets on the couch empty-handed for the eighth time too. On top of not knowing who wrote the message, the teen didn’t trust anyone not to sneak into the apartment while he slept so the couch it was. At least it was a comfortable couch...
Walking made his stomach really hurt now. When did he last eat? Was it last night or yesterday morning? And what DID he eat? He sure as hell hadn’t cooked anything as evident by the protein wrappers strewn about the countertop. His eyes roved over the same cabinet contents from before; nothing new magically appeared. But something did jump out...
Spider stared at an unassuming can with a bright red tomato on it. Why did that suddenly look so good...?
As appealing as tomato soup suddenly looked, Spider’s head jerked to the right and he rolled the shoulder for it. Maybe later...just water for now for the headache.
Defeated in his hunt for food, Spider went back and flopped into the tangled blankets on the side of the couch against the wall so he could stare at the door. There was only one way into the apartment and he wasn’t going to miss anyone who might creep in.
“They’re just fucking with you, Spider...” he reassured himself quietly, rubbing the heel of his palm into his right temple. That had to be it. Without Quaritch and the rest of the squad around, those RDA sons of bitches had to be messing with him. He didn’t think his alters had the capacity to just write that message without causing any other problems...but that was a hell of a presumption.
He took a slow breath and closed his eyes. The first person to come to Spider’s mind was Kiri. She would know what to do. She’d know how to make him feel better with how fucked up everything had become. His chest felt tight and a pang shot through his head, causing him to drop his head forward and clutch the right side of his head in a mess of tangled locs.
Spider missed her so goddamn much...and Lo’ak...Tuk and Neteyam...all the science guys...Jake...even Ney-...
Before he had a chance to register it, a sharpy cry escaped Spider and was followed by a hiss of pain through his teeth. His head dipped lower and his other hand wove into his wild hair to clutch the other side of his head. It felt like his whole brain got zapped by a static shock. When he opened his eyes again, he was embarrassed to see tiny beads of tears on his eyelashes.
He tried to wipe them away with the back of his hand, but this seemed to just allow more to escape and stream down cheeks. Spider felt overwhelmed by the silence of the apartment. He could hear the almost silent hum of the lights and appliances plugged in the kitchen, but it was still silent compared to what he was used to at Hell’s Gate or High Ground.
Spider’s head shot upright, causing a flashing behind his eyes from the inevitable headache, at the sound of beeping. It didn’t sound like the normal door alert, but were the guards coming in? They’d left him alone...why would they come in now? Did they hear him? Fucking hell...just what he needed...
He heard the beeping again and looked around for the source before realizing it was muffled and coming from beneath the blanket. Pulling back the blanket, Spider pulled the tablet from where it slipped between the couch cushions and thought maybe it was alerting him the battery needed to be recharged or something. Instead, the icon that looked like a projector was blinking green.
“What the hell...?” Spider said to himself. He thought this thing only let him read comics and watch old Earth movies. The elation he felt when he pressed it and a screen turned on to the colonel staring back at him was indescribable. The recom was looking around the screen as if waiting for his end of the call to connect. Wainfleet was on one side, poking at some buttons he couldn’t see.
“Hey, hey!” Wainfleet said, confirming the tablets had connected, “There he is! What’s up, Spider-Man?”
Quaritch shook his head and focused on the stunned kid staring back at him, “Hey, tiger.”
“Qua-...Koaktan?” Spider asked, course corrected his name for Quaritch.
“In the blue flesh, kid, why do you look so surprised?” the colonel said with a smirk. Spider could see Wainfleet mock being offended off to the side. He could see an olive-green tarp so they must be set up at camp somewhere.
“Um...” Spider said, unable to form words.
“Spider?” Quaritch asked, his smirk dropping and a look of concern taking its place. Even though the screen, Spider could see how the recom looked over how he swallowed hard while biting his upper lip and his brows knit together as they rose up. Even Wainfleet caught the strange response and looked concerned, but he didn’t get to ask before Quaritch dismissed him with a wave of his hand. “Spider? You alright there, son?”
“I, um...” he started, failing miserably to form more words. His heart started beating faster and his breath caught in his throat, causing his chest to heave slightly. He blurted out suddenly and unprompted, “Are you ok?”
“I just asked you that, kid, what’s wrong?” Quaritch said, his minor concern turning serious. He leaned closer to the tablet and spoke quieter to make the conversation as private as possible. Though, the squad was family and they’d find out eventually.
“I, uh...yea. I don’t know...” Spider said quickly with a nod.
Quaritch stared at the boy for a second then ran his hand over his chin before asking again, “Spider. Are you alright? What’s wrong?”
“I’m fine...I just, uh...” Spider said with a shrug and tick to the right that Quaritch did NOT miss, “I don’t know.”
“Did somethin’ happen? Anyone givin’ you a hard time?” Quaritch said, his ears pinning back in anger at the thought of any of the security detail he handpicked for this task not performing to his expectations. He was ready to rip a new one into anyone putting the boy through any shit...
“No...” Spider said, his eyes dropping. His cheeks started to feel hot with shame when he couldn’t say what was wrong. He didn’t WANT to tell Quaritch about the message on the mirror. At least not until Spider was sure HE wasn’t the one who’d actually written it to himself. His brain was already fractured, but he was holding out hope he wasn’t going legitimately insane. “Are you coming back soon?”
“Yea, few more days.” Quaritch said, serious worry for his boy taking root.
“You promise?” Spider said quickly, sounding more desperate than he thought.
“Promise, kid.” Quaritch answered firmly. This was Spider he was dealing with, right? The surveillance mission had been just that. Observation and no contact. Maybe he could call it a mission complete early? He stayed patient and asked a third time, “Spider. Answer my question, ya hear? Are you alright? Because you sure hell don’t seem it.”
“I-I don’t know, ok?!” Spider suddenly blurted out, his breath shaking as he answered truthfully, “I don’t feel right.”
“Tell me what doesn’t feel right.” Quaritch said, signaling for Ja to come close enough to hear the kid’s response and what he was experiencing in his own words.
And then the damn burst...
“I’m all fucked up and I don’t know what to trust!” Spider said, closing his eyes tightly and letting the fears he’d been poorly keeping in check with little sleep, eating, and little physical activity. It was like self-imposed solitary confinement. “I’m tired! I don’t want to be here! Fuck this place! I want to go home! But I CAN’T because I’ll hurt someone! I can’t take the risk, I should just fucking kill myself before I hurt anyo-...!”
“Spider, eyes on me!” Quaritch ordered, barking it out loud enough that everyone at the camp heard. Dread seized his chest when he heard his son mention suicide. Spider did his best to not let his lip quiver as he followed the command but couldn’t stop the tremble in his breathing. The recom could see how exhausted, in every definition of the word, the boy was. “I’m comin’ back tonight. But it’s gonna take me a couple hours.”
“But the general said-...if I got in the way-...” Spider sputtered, instantly regretting how his outburst was going to threaten the arrangement Quaritch had worked so hard to set up.
“To hell with the general!” Quaritch shouted before he could reason with his own flaring emotions, “I’m comin’ home, kid!”
None of the squad got in his way as Quaritch stormed out from under the shelter to where Cupcake was almost asleep for the night. He shoved the tablet into Wainfleet’s hands and his second immediately went to calmly talk to the kid. He’d stay on the call as long as he needed to...
And he did.
Quaritch was going to owe Cupcake a long rest after the effort she put in to get him back to Bridgehead. It still took a while and it was in the early hours of the morning when he shocked the security detail outside the apartment. They dismissed themselves seeing how fast the colonel passed them into the apartment; it was obvious they weren’t needed anymore.
Stepping just past the threshold, Quaritch laid his golden eyes on the terrified teen who was still sitting in the same spot he saw on the screen and holding the tablet with shaking hands. Spider looked up at him, pale and sickly. He looked worse now than he did when he first called to see what trouble the kid had gotten up to while they were gone. Goddamn it, why didn’t he call to check in sooner?!
“Spid-...?” Quaritch barely started.
“I’m gonna be sick!” the kid blurted out before dropping the tablet and vaulting over the couch to the bathroom. That was one way to end a conversation and the call disconnected. The recom crossed the room in quick strides and into the bathroom after Spider. The teen didn’t even make it to the toilet, opting to drop and vomit the bile from an empty stomach onto the shower floor instead.
Quaritch dropped a knee next to him and pulled back his wild locs. All that time spent trying to hold back a panic attack on top of whatever was chipping away at his sanity the last few days? He rubbed a large hand in a circle on the boy’s back but did not get the response he was expecting.
“Don’t touch me!” Spider shrieked, slipping on the tile to get away from the recom and falling against the wall in a heap.
“Ok, ok. I ain’t gonna touch you.” Quaritch said quickly. He didn’t know if this was about to turn into a night with Miles instead of Spider if he pushed him. Wouldn’t be the first time...
“I’ll...leave you to your thoughts, ok? I’ll wait out ther-...” Quaritch said calmly, thinking he was offering the best solution until the boy whipped his head up.
“No, no! Please don’t go!” Spider pleaded but recoiled when Quaritch thought this was a green light to help him off the hard tile floor, “No, don’t touch me!”
Quaritch slowly lowered his hands and made direct eye contact with the now crying child, “Mawey.”
“Mawey...” Spider repeated, actually feeling a sliver calmer with Quaritch speaking in Na’vi.
“Yea...mawey. I’m just going to stay over here, ok?” the colonel said soothingly as he sat back against the opposite wall under the sink. As he did, he noticed a towel draped over the mirror. He looked back to Spider hunched over next to the wall, trying not to get sick again and covering his eyes with his hand.
“...irayo...” Spider said through the growing migraine.

One thing About Quaritch In Avatar: Way of Water
I really really appreciate the possible identity issues Quaritch is dealing with after being “revived” in an Avatar. Quaritch from the first movie is dead. Period. Avatar Quaritch seems to logically recognize that e’s not really Quaitch in the way e stresses that to Spider and doesn’t argue with the Commander. E brings Spider the dogtags, and even picks them up after Spider throws them away. E seems sad to see es own dead body, but at the same time crushes human Quaritch’s skull-- which could either mean e’s rejecting the idea of “Quaritch” the person being dead, or is detaching further from the identity of Quaritch.
Still,  later e tells Neytiri “I owe you a death” as if e still identifies as Quaritch. Yet later tries to deny being Spider’s father. If you ask me, Quaritch being afraid of Neytiri’s arrow is less a matter of being traumatized and more a matter of Quaritch tussling with the fact that the memories and personality e’s relied on to feel confident and able are from a guy who ultimately failed. RDA’s shooting em at Sully BECAUSE e has Quaritch’s memories and personality, that alone is a massive ego boost, like being told you’re gonna win a race bc you’ve got the best shoes on. Neytiri’s arrows humble em and remind em of what happened to the guy RDA wants em to be. If e just leans on the identity, skills, knowledge, and habits of Colonel Quaritch, e’s gonna end up just like Quaritch.
Avatar Quaritch overall seems to just juggle having implanted memories and personality traits that make em identify as Quaitch with the reality e logically accepts early on that e’s ultimately a different person-- a fact e tries to benefit from TWICE.
That paired with seeing and feeling the world through a different body, with different abilities, and different opportunities, just makes em a festering pot full of complexity. Like, Imagine having daddy issues, but daddy is yourself.
Chaotic Evil catboy vibes aside, I just find the concept of this character really neat. At first I thought it lazy to just bring back last movie’s baddie, but they added layers to this stinky onion of a character

“So, it is settled? There will be new entries in the AVTR Program. I don’t like the sound of it.” The last part was said in a whisper that Norm heard anyway, thanks to the amplified senses of his Na’vi-like body. “We’re understaffed, Jake. They’re trusted people, among the best minds on Earth, who love this moon just as much as we do.” “You love it so much that you rejected Faanì’s advances,” he chuckled. “That woman terrifies me. She is so…” “Confident, go-getter?” “‘Encroaching, pushy.” “Hey, it’s the Omatikaya ways,” he shrugged his shoulders. “They’re used to being straightforward, and taking what they want.” “Ignoring her isn’t direct enough?” “Evidently, their extreme sincerity doesn’t let them acknowledge the hidden meaning behind your evasiveness. Also, Faanì has several suitors; your coldness will be the reason for her apparent obsession.”“Apparent, really?” “Admit it, you’re at least a little pleased. She’s a stunner, and she’s totally into you. Come on, loosen up a bit. It’s fine to have fun sometimes. You're the last unmated dreamwalker and one of the few who didn't opt for the permanent consciousness transfer. Don’t tell me you’re still thinking about…” His silence was as loud as a scream. “It won’t bring her back. And that's not what she'd have wanted. You know that, right? Anyway, when are they getting here?” “In a week.”
Tumblr media
“I thought you would make the first link with your avatar as soon. ”When her fingers touched the cold, metallic handle, she almost exulted. Dusk was fast approaching, and she longed to rid herself of the sticky, humid rainforest heat by jumping into the shower. Her head bent to hold her cell between ear and shoulder, a clipboard wedged under her armpit, and her badge lined up haphazardly toward the lector on the door.
"That's not how it rolls," she said, holding back a chuckle. “They put me through some tests first. Linkage can be risky if you're not in tip-top shape. I was in cryo for six years and woke up on a whole new world. You should know better than me, doc.” The woman on the other end of the phone chortled. “What can I say? I’m a therapist. Mind’s my thing; the rest is in the hands of you geniuses.”
The unlocking beep was covered by the resounding clapping of the paperwork that slipped from under her arm. Great. She rolled her eyes at the ceiling, opening the door and pushing the fallen papers in with one foot. Then she disposed of her purse and badge, leaving them on the shelf at the entrance. Aubree was about to answer her, but her voice lost its importance the moment the trill of an incoming email rose from the small monitor on the desk.
“It’s Max. My exams are ready. Tomorrow's the big day! My avatar's coming out of the incubator and I'm making my first connection.” “Amazing! Go freshen up, grab a good meal, and hit the hay early. Tomorrow’s gonna be a tiring day and the experience of the first link may be traumatic.” “Are you speaking as a friend or a psychologist?” “As both?” “Consider it done, Liv. Rest assured.” “And tomorrow night we’re going to have a momentous hangover. To celebrate.” The scientist smiled. “Doesn’t sound like very professional advice.” “Hey, I've been waiting for you on Pandora for a year! You finally got your doctorate, and you're not gonna party? You're the worst, you know that?” “Technically, I got it six years ago.” “But for you, it’s like it was yesterday. It’s a lot to process. What do you think we therapists are here for?” “Norm’s not gonna be so happy.” She heard her exclaim, “Can’t wait! Tomorrow it is! And eat.” “Aye, aye. See you tomorrow,” she signed off before hanging up.
She huffed as she laid the papers neatly on the desk, went to the bathroom, and hurriedly undressed, opening the jet. As soon as the cold water rained down on her heated skin, she let out a sigh of relief. Aubree hated the hot weather, the bugs, the sweaty clothes. All things she hadn’t considered moving here, but still wouldn’t make a difference. In the summer, on weekdays, she took two showers a day, sometimes one even at night when the mugginess prevented her from sleeping. Occasionally, she wondered where she found the strength to get out of bed at three in the morning to shower.
Out of the blue, as she was soaping her hair, the jet went off. She tried to turn it back on a couple of times, before walking out of the stall cursing, grabbing a towel to rub her skin and hair. Then she put on the first thing that came her way and left the room at a brisk pace. She refused to skip her beloved evening shower.
The girl walked down the long corridor until it opened onto the link beds wing, where she knew she would find Norm. And indeed, there he was, emerging from his pod; a tired expression painted on his face. Waiting for him, besides the medical team, was a tall Na’vi in warrior garb who struggled to keep his back straight because of his size. Just further away, another pair of natives who appeared noticeably younger, her peers presumably, but equally warriors judging by the cummerbund that wrapped around their ribcage. They whispered and nudged each other while laughing at something only they knew.
Their somber vociferation was abruptly ceased at the entrance of the girl, who, if she had not been so stymied, would have noticed the astonished stares and the sudden muteness filling the room. With the soles of her bare feet flapping in stride, her hair glossy with shampoo, her clothes clinging to the non-dry skin and showing off more than they should, and a livid expression, she planted herself in front of Norm, who stared at her with some embarrassment and intimidation, although the woman was noticeably smaller than him.
And the same could have been said for poor Jake, who tried to focus on everything else as long as he did not look down at her cleavage. The damp fabric not only perfectly outlined her breasts but also highlighted her air-conditioned nipples. The darker areolas showing through the white material, pointing at him like a pair of eyes.
“Norm.” She called caustically, and for a moment Jake swore he sensed him trembling under the accusatory tone with which she pronounced his name. Shit, he himself had felt an electric shock run down his spine and pour into his lower abdomen. "This is the third time in two weeks," she accused, arms crossed, foot tapping. That simple gesture lifted her chest just enough to knock the corporal’s breath away, the loincloth getting tighter and tighter. She was a sassy one. ”Something's definitely wrong with the hydraulics. We can't keep this up.”
At those words for a moment, the man felt pulled in, as if she was referring to his own plumbing problem. Well hidden between his legs, thank goodness.
“We will arrange it.” “We’d better.” At that point, Jake cleared his throat to signal that, yes, he was still there. “Um, Aubree, this is Jake Sully. Jake, Aubree Young, our fresh addition to the Avatar Program.” “Aubree, the PhD student. Nice to meet you.” She had to suppress a groan hearing the syllables of her name roll across his tongue; it was almost like feeling them tickle her back, spoken in that muted, persuasive voice. The girl was petrified under his impassive gaze (Jake was a talented actor); she had seen him portrayed several times. He was practically a rock star, but he didn’t look so handsome in pictures, which just didn’t do him justice — especially to those eyes. He extended his large hand toward her, however, she responded by bringing two fingers to the center of her forehead to draw an arc, bowing in respect. “Olo’eyktan, smon nìprrte’ (nice to meet you).”
Fuck, did she have to bow like that? From that angle, he could see her bosom in all its youthful splendor. A woman in her prime. Deliciously round and full against the thin material.
“Holy shit!” burst out a voice behind them. Spider. “What the heck happened to you?”
Like a bucket of ice water, finally, the revelation of her scant coverage crashed over her. She looked down at her body, realizing that she had her breasts basically sticking out, and a muffled sigh left her lips. In a magnanimous gesture, a colleague offered her his gown, which she fastened onto the very last button, mortified.
The lips of the Na’vi boy with the shaved right side of his head tensed in a thin grin, and a subtle — or rather, sadistic — gleam animated his eyes, not even deigning to move them from just below her face. “You do seem to have a conflictual relationship with underwear,” he subtilized wryly. Aubree wished the floor would have swallowed her all: she had forgotten her bra. “Lo’ak!” the other two Na’vi called back to him in unison, and he turned away without showing the slightest touch. “We’ve raised you better than that.” Jake wished he could have been more severe in his rebuke, but it was undeniable that his little dig had affected him.
What did he mean by that? The girl had a habit of publicly displaying herself in such an… unbecoming way? More likely she was just a hothead. Annoyance had driven her out of her room in that attire.
“Still the broken shower,” Spider guessed. “Yeah,” in all her awkwardness, still a hint of irritation shone through from the young woman’s mumbling. “My offer is still on the table until things get sorted.” "Thanks, but I don't want to be a burden. Liv said I can shower at her place. Anyway, Norm, please do me a favor and find a solution.” The man nodded, sensing more than well what she implied: ‘For your sake and peace of mind.’ She would haunt him until her bathroom was repaired.
“You’ve got to be kidding me.” Liv blocked a forkful halfway through to look up at her. ”I’d prefer that, trust me.” “Did you show up in front of the olo’eyktan and his sons drenched from head to toe, and with your tits out?” “I didn’t have my tits out!” “They weren’t in place either, though.” Her friend sighed, chewing quietly. “So, what do you plan to do?” “Ignore it?” ”Acting like it didn't happen won't make it go away.” “I will not humiliate myself further by going to apologize. I won't have many chances to meet with them, anyway.” “Probably not the clan leader or his eldest. But Lo’ak…” the tone in which she mentioned him did not please the doctoral student at all. “Speak.” ”He's a total jerk. He'll make your life a living hell after that. Avoid him at all costs.”
Aubree could add nothing else, not sure she could trust her voice as she settled what a mess she had just gotten herself into. She had come to Pandora to chase her dream, to make a difference and find her place in the universe, not to be gratuitously humiliated and mocked by an overgrown kid. No way she would allow that, not at twenty-seven.
Tumblr media
With the addition of avatars as potential new clan members among the Omatikaya, a new rite of passage emerged - the Introduction. In general, it was comparable to the period when native adolescents were ready to embark on the path of rebirth. A night festival was dedicated to them in which dreamwalkers presented themselves to the people. It had been unofficially established for a few years now and usually coincided with the avatar’s optimal body mastery. It had taken Aubree a couple of weeks, a period when Lo’ak had not exactly spared her from prying and equivocal jokes and glances, but now that she was officially an avatar in training to become Omatikaya, things could only get worse.
Lo’ak was her assigned mentor.
To describe that being formed by the youngest Sully son was awful was an understatement. It was pure torture. His sole purpose was to torment her from the moment she stepped outside Hell’s Gate until the moment she put it back in. From sunrise to sunset, seven days a week - excluding a few sporadic days of freedom. Usually spent doing the work for which she had come to Pandora. Studying.
Fatigue marked her face to where it was impossible not to notice, and Lo’ak was keen to let her know he had noticed.
“Trouble sleeping, princess? Did they stick a pea under your mattress? Or maybe you had a wild night out. Bummer I couldn’t be there. I wouldn't mind seeing those pretty little boobies again.”
Asshole.
One day, dealing with the guy had become particularly untenable. Aubree needed to do something, and fast.
She interrupted the day's training and rushed back to headquarters to confront Norm and the olo'eyktan. Too bad the latter intercepted her first.
“Wuo-oh-oh, what’s going on here? Where you off to?” “I can’t take it anymore,” she confessed, almost breathlessly. “Your son is...is...” She would have had many unkind epithets to call him, one meaner than the other, convinced that Lo’ak deserved them all, from first to last, but in front of his father, she bit her tongue, merely grunting. “Lo’ak can be... difficult,” he said it as if an entire ecosystem was encapsulated in that simple word. And to some extent, it fulfilled its purpose, but simultaneously, it fell short. “What if we switch places?” “Excuse me?” “Since things aren’t going smoothly between the two of you, I’ll mentor you from now on.”
That was the beginning of the end.
*
Jake was a good karyu (teacher). Patient and understanding, aware of Aubree’s limited physical abilities. The girl was not a soldier; she was a lab rat, a bookworm, and going too hard on training made no sense. The man had a kindness towards her he had never shown, even to his daughters. Almost too permissive, and this made the Ph.D. student forget he was not just anyone.
Jake was the olo’eyktan of the Omatikaya.
This made her bold and overconfident. The formal tone disappeared with his title, replaced by more casual conversations, banters, and wry remarks. Sometimes even unmistakable glances. The boundaries of their teacher-student relationship were blurring into something unknown and dangerous. It was unseemly for Aubree to have a crush on him.
The girl took pains to hide her true emotions. He was a committed man; she repeated to herself, complete with children, and he was at least twice her age. She couldn't help but think about the man's age, which was old enough to be her father. But damn, she had never seen a hotter dad. He was smoking hot.
Shit, stop it right NOW.
“Are you still with me?” “Pardon?” “Stop daydreaming. Let's be honest, you do it often. It doesn’t work. Not if you aspire to be one of us.”
One of them. She wondered if she had what it took to give up her humanity. She shouldn’t desire someone else’s man to begin with.
“Let’s get back into position. Back straight, one foot back, hold your breath and draw your bow.” Jake stood behind her. “Your arms are too stiff.” His hands slipped from her shoulders and reached for her pelvis to turn it properly, but that made her gasp. He frowned as if to scold her for losing her posture.
He seemed to be in a foul mood today. The usual patience he seemed to reserve for her was gone. Aubree couldn’t see the growing frustration that had been eating at him since he had met her. She had no inkling of the thoughts that were gnawing at his soul. His mind kept wandering to the forbidden scenarios he dreamed up. Fantasies he should not have had, not about her. He was about to say something biting, but when he saw her face, the words vanished.
She had shiny round eyes, blushing cheeks and nose, and inviting parted lips. A purplish hue was about to invade her neck.
If he had kept staring, she would have seen him coming for sure. Instead, he ran right into her. With barely a rustle in the air, he forcefully lifted her face with his hand and imprinted his mouth onto hers. She stumbled backward, her head slamming against the tree bark. The impact left her momentarily dazed and a sharp pain shot through her skull. Closing her eyes or making any movement was impossible, as he had a vice-like grip on her cheek and neck. She tried to wriggle out of that almost grotesque contact.
What was it? A kiss? His lips were sealed, his body tense against hers and his forehead contracted. The grip mean. She pushed him away harder with the sudden urge to scream at him and finally broke away. She caught a flash of something in his eyes. Perhaps it was anger and welcomed it as a reflection of her own. The hand snapped automatically, and the acute pop on his cheek was as liberating as the burning in her palm. Aubree did not speak, still furious, and Jake took a few seconds to turn his face toward her.
“Isn’t this what you wanted?” he said, seemingly calm despite his clenched jaw and flashing gaze. She dared not answer, which only caused a sinister smile to cripple the man’s handsome face. “You’re in big trouble, baby girl.”
“Where are we?” ”The old shack." “But you said—.” “I know what I said,” he snapped. She bit her lip to stifle any giggles and we entered the abandoned, silent mobile laboratory, uncertain whether to say anything. Suddenly, the boldness she had had up to that moment seemed to disappear under the flickering neon light of the links section.
Aubree took courage and ventured to lift her head. It was like flipping a switch. The tension grew, and the door leading to the food court opened. At least a dozen scenes played out in slow motion in her mind, as they looked at each other reflected in the mirrored wall that outlined one side of the small room. But Jake didn’t look intent on taking her there. Not right away, at least.
Why wasn’t he talking? His lips were tight and his posture tense. Perhaps she had misinterpreted and was not attracted to her.
In silence, they reached one last door, which must have been broken down, because Jake had to force it open. He stepped aside to let her in, and with a hint of anxiety, she stepped forward into the dimly lit interior. The woman could distinguish a couch, a series of monitors on the wall, a few photos. The sound of the door closing behind her made her jerk, and she turned toward him, truncating him, already watching her.
“Jake.” Was he not going to turn on the light?
He approached her with an indecipherable expression, her heart beat faster in her chest, but she sighed with relief when she smelled his scent again. A million questions clogged her throat.
“Jake.” “Hmm?” “Do you want me?” she asked him in a thread of voice. His lips brushed her forehead, and she felt him smile in the darkness. “If I want you...” he said, leaving the sentence hanging. He grabbed her by the arm, making her turn around, and pushed her against the door. Then he made her body cling to his and whispered in her ear, “You’re having fun, aren’t you, little girl?” She felt goose bumps forming where his breath blew. “Doing what?” she asked, resting her head against the metal surface of the door. “To challenge me,” he said, rubbing his lips on her neck in an imaginary path. “That’s all you’ve been doing since I met you.”  His rough voice was setting her on fire. “In that little white dress, without a bra, I’ve been thinking about it for days.” “I thought Na’vi didn’t mind nudity,” she provoked him.
I’m not Na’vi.
Jake closed his hands over her breasts and in response she bent her neck back, parting her lips to gather more oxygen. He lifted his arm, but before she could touch him, he grabbed both her wrists and locked them above her head. Then his lips were on her again, more firmly this time. She could distinctly feel the contours, the softness, the moist saliva that impregnated them. He found a flap under her earlobe and took it between his teeth, sucking lasciviously; Aubree stifled a moan and tried to move against him. It was not enough for her; she wanted more, much more. The fire was raging.
“Come,” he said, barely moving away. “Huh?” she mumbled, confusedly. He detached himself from her without letting go of her wrists and guided her to the sofa he had been eyeing earlier. Aubree would have liked to look at his face to see what he was up to, but she dared not to talk back. “Hands on the backrest.” The authoritative tone, the deep voice, left no room; this was the Olo’eyktan speaking. She swallowed and slowly placed her palms on the solid cushions. “Bend over,” he ordered again, and she shuddered as a strange instinct was surfacing within her. The scientist obeyed silently and turned her head, resting her left cheek, surely flushed, on the fabric. She could feel her heart pulsing against her rib cage and the edge of the couch pressing against her sternum.
She felt his hands curve over her hips and slide down to the fastening of her shorts. “From now on, these clothes are banned. You wanna be Omatikaya? Be Omatikaya.” With a powerful tug, he pulled them down. Aubree distinctly heard the fibers tearing. “You can keep these instead,” he asserted, running his fingers along the fabric of her lace panties. The woman held her breath as his icy fingers caressingly furrowed the flesh of her bottom.
As he thought about it, Jake realized that the delicate fiber and intricate designs of Earth women's lingerie were something he missed.
“No shenanigans to throw? You are so quiet,” he provoked her, and she exhaled an eager giggle. “On the other hand, you are talkative, sir.”
A harsh, searing pain shot through her the moment his hand spanked her; the air choked in her throat and she squinted. She licked her dry lips and let out a hiss.
“Say my name,” he ordered peremptorily, and she realized he had done it on purpose. He wanted her to answer him so that he could continue. Aubree didn’t really know the direction she was going, but she heard how a voice called to her like a muse. “Ma’olo’eyktan?” she ventured, and clenched her jaw, wincing at his second slap. She felt the vibration of his palm transmit throughout her body and the girl had no more doubts. The rush of glee that had electrified her brain was caused precisely by him. “Mr. Sul—.” He changed angles swiftly and she could not hold back the trembling moan that rang out perfectly clear in the silence. His hand caressed the burning skin and bent over her. “Don’t hold back,” he told her before another clapper echoed through the air. Her legs trembled, and this time, her cunt pulsed in response. Aubree moved her arms and clutched the edges of the pillows, searching for any foothold as she felt lost in a completely unfamiliar ocean of dire pleasure.
The fifth spank made her neck tense, and her lips twisted into a mute and perfect O, still trying to suppress any sound. She waited for a handful of seconds for his hand, which did not come, and relaxed her muscles. The pop came unexpectedly and louder than the previous ones. She groaned, caught by surprise.
She heard him click his tongue and his feet spread her legs; the embarrassment of being totally exposed suddenly rained down on her, but she could not move a muscle. His hand slipped between her thighs and peeled back the texture of her thong; his fingers grazed her glistening intimacy, and he moved them slowly, before slipping one in with disarming ease. She opened her eyes wide at that single touch and moaned even louder.
“Oh, come on, I barely grazed you...” his voice was hoarse, mocking, and he went deeper, beginning to kiss her back. Aubree hated the camisole that separated his lips from her skin. Her thoughts now disconnected, and arched her spine as she reached an exceptionally sensitive spot.
“Jake, please,” she gasped, and he bit her shoulder, now completely spread-eagled on her. Aubree sensed his erection pressing against her thigh and levered her arms up. She couldn’t take it anymore. She forced him up and turned away, ignoring the dizziness that rose from that sudden movement.
It must have surprised him, because he did not react immediately. She looked at him, scarcely illuminated by the moonlight glow peeking through the window. He was so handsome it was sickening. Taking his face in her hands, she kissed him, pushing him backward toward the couch. He grabbed her neck with his hand and pulled her away, stiffening. She could not look into his eyes, but she could hear his breath catch.
What was he thinking about? Were the kisses too intimate? Was this something reserved for Neytiri? He could fuck others like concubines, but he couldn’t romance? Was he going to punish her again?
She would never have known, but a few seconds later, it no longer mattered; Jake fiercely brought his mouth together with hers. His warm tongue explored the watery interior, the groove of teeth, rubbing against its twin. He took her head in his hands and she felt as light as a balloon, as if she had been drugged. She encircled him with her arms to hold him close, but the man reversed the situation and she found herself lying on the couch.
He stood for a few seconds and she looked down at her without a word as he unbuckled his warrior waistband, then abandoned on the floor somewhere. He was on top of her and Aubree soured on his scent, kissing any spot she could reach, hearing him swear at the loincloth.
His movements became eager. He carelessly slipped off her panties and spread her legs apart, tracing her body with his palms and then bringing her wrists over her head. The man entered her all the way, without warning, and she stifled a gasping sob in response to his choked sigh; he took a fast, pounding rhythm right away and the slight initial discomfort soon vanished. She encircled his waist with her legs, pinning him against her, without registering that her thong was sagging to her ankle, and tried to go at him with her pelvis.
Each mighty thrust was a jab into the bowels and then invest a violent sensation of enjoyment. The scientist murmured something incoherent as she felt the thrusts become erratic; he bent over her, felt her labored breath in his hair and branded her neck with the outline of his canines. She emitted a hoarse wail and realized she was close.
“Let m-my ... arms,” sounded more like a plea. The desire to hold him had become irresistible and disruptive. “Forget it. Come for me, baby girl.” The arching sound of that nickname set her on fire permanently. Liquid waves swept over her, clouding her thoughts, and her vocal cords made it inexorably clear, echoing through the hall like an echo.
He sank into her again, two, three, four strokes, before emitting a low moan and coming out of her, spilling onto her belly.
Aubree could not tell how long they stood listening to each other’s heart relaxed. Jake slumped to her side, releasing her wrists, and she brought a hand between his dark dreadlocks: they were softer and smoother than one might imagine. As she re-emerged from that velvet bamboozlement, she felt him rise from her.
Noises came from somewhere in the old, abandoned workshop. Then his figure came back into her field of vision, leaning over her to gently clean her abdomen. The woman was grateful because she felt as if sucked out of all energy.
She had not felt so deeply fulfilled in a very long time and wanted to enjoy that feeling to the fullest.
“You good to go back to HQ on your own?” he asked her, finishing removing his traces from her, breaking the magic. “Yes,” she murmured in a whisper, slightly intimidated and incredibly embarrassed now that reality was shattering over her.
It had been a quickie, a onetime thing consummated with the urgency of provocation getting the better on common sense.
Jake was Olo’eyktan, a family man with a spouse to whom he owed his devotion. An episode like that would never happen again, and Aubree clung to it as if that memory was worth her life.
The memory of the day she had really gotten into big, big trouble.

I’m bored and high on meds and decided to make Avatar the Way of Water HCs
here we gooo
Jake: - has definitely, actually roared at his sons at least once out of frustration - is still super in love with Neytiri, like a teenage kid - while Neteyam may be his first born and the "golden child" of the Sullys, Kiri has a very special place in Jake's heart - carries Tuk under his arm like a purse
Neytiri: - used to sing her kids to sleep when they were little - she doesn't strike me as the parent who would get mad at her kids for saying bad words, unless they're aimed at another person - was heartbroken when she learned that Kiri cannot connect to Eywa safely - doesn't like when Jake carries Tuk under his arm like a purse - strikes me as a mother who hated being pregnant, but loves kids so much she happily did it anyway
Neteyam: - he's bi - like you cannot tell me that Neteyam is 100% straight - *was - read human books in attempts at looking smart for people he had a crush on - books were always turned upside down - "oh uhhhhh that's because I'm so smart I can read them upside down haha" - everyone knew he couldn't even read because no one can because the Na'vi do not have a written language
Kiri: - Sass Queen™ - which she got from her father, Jake - connects with Spider so well because they both feel different from everyone else around them - I will riot a lil bit if she doesn't develop feelings for a girl in the future - still calls Lo'ak "penis face" once ina while to put him in his place - is probably a vegetarian
Lo'ak: - still thinks fart jokes are funny - dumb as a brick but tries hard not to be - Payakan is his Bestie™ - tried to make a Bestie bracelet for him and Payakan - found out it didn't work - cried - tries to be tough and cool - looks too cute so it's not really working is it - "oh man I'm crushing so hard on Tsireya" proceeds to leave her with his brother's dead body for like an hour
Tuk: - i have a feeling she will look most like her father growing up, but act most like her mother - will probably have matured too much in the 3rd movie due to the trauma of the 2nd - if anything happens to Tuk in Avatar 3 i will riot on the streets with fire
Spider: - Neteyam taught him all the bad words - All The Bad Words In The Entire Na'vi Language - Spider speaks fluent Swear Words™ - but is actually a good boi - most likely annoyed the f*ck out of Quaritch on purpose in hopes of him letting Spider go while captured - obviously didn't work since Quaritch is more annoying than Spider and thus immune to annoyancy
Tsireya: - claims she's in love with Lo'ak - was mighty fine with the idea of Lo'ak swimming into Payakan's mouth when she still thought Payakan was evil - like girl wdym "I met a boy" - are you in love with him or nah?? - otherwise she's the Na'vi embodiment of glitter and rainbows - probably a little traumatized after Lo'ak left her with Neteyam's dead body - but yeah she's all good uwu
Aonung: - flirts with boys - swears he's straight as an arrow - cannot tell the difference between a bow and an arrow - like the kid has a fixation on tails and you tell me that boy is straight???
Rotxo: - no he's not one of the jerks that messed with Lo'ak - he has a look-alike you fools - Rotxo is actually a good boy and cares about people - especially Kiri 0w0
Quaritch: - played too much CoD growing up - that's it that's all there is to that cracther - i misspelled *character but i'm gonna leave it at that - too lazy to fix my mistake
Tonowari: - cutest character of them all despite being a grown man - only rivaled by Tuk - Tonowari and Tuk could have "cuteness contest" and Tonowari might actually win - like he's so full of fluff and care and love - still wouldn't say no to him railing me in bed tho
Ronal: - would kill a man to protect her spirit sister - would kill a man to protect her family - would kill a man to protect her people - would kill a man
