there is SO much depth and beauty in the stories we hear in sweeney todd. a murderer who was once a doting father, so blind with hatred and anger towards the world that he couldn’t even see his own wife and daughter, staring him right in the face. a woman down on her luck and in love, trying so desperately to make a connection with a deeply broken and disturbed human. an unfortunately innocent and unknowing boy who ended up being the one who could sense the dark truth. a love at first sight that refused to die, even when torn apart by the disgusting perversion of a greedy abuser. sweeney todd is about all of these people, doing absolutely horrible things, all out of some form of love. that’s the beauty of sweeney todd. sweeney killed for a father and husband’s love. lovett baked real people with real lives into pies to maintain a shallow, lustful relationship she impossibly dreamed would bloom into true romance. turpin destroyed an innocent family because he could not contain his ‘love’ for a pretty woman and her daughter. toby slit a throat because his mother figure was all he had, and he loved her, simply and purely, as an innocent child loves a mother. their love is the purest of all in the story.

but my point is — yes, sweeney todd is about a murderer and his accomplice who cannibalizes and sells his victims. but it’s not. sweeney todd is about love. how love is even stronger and more dangerous than the deepest hate. it’s about how love can destroy people. this show is so beautifully, deeply, disgustingly human. and this dark, telling tale is somehow warped into some of the most gorgeous music to ever be written and made hilarious, lovable, and entertaining. musical theatre is truly magic. human nature is love and filth and greed. sweeney todd perfectly embodies both of these ideas.

Attend The Tale of Sweeney Todd

Backstory:

Was drawn to watch Sweeney Todd (2007 film) before because of its star-studded cast. Imagine Johnny Depp, Helena Bonham Carter, Alan Rickman, and Jamie Campbell Bower in one film! A musical film!! I was so intrigued and excited! It. Did. Not. Disappoint.

Come 2019, it was announced that ST is coming to Manila!! Top-billed by Jett Pangan, Lea Salonga, Nyoy Volante, Gerald Castro and produced by Atlantis as a celebration of their 20th Anniversary! We were able to get tix at the balcony (medyo likod na) dated October 25, 2019. WHAT A PERFORMANCE!!! *slow clap

‘Twas Dec. 17, 2022 when I found out that there’s gonna be a 3rd revival of Sweeney Todd on Broadway. When I saw the line up, I was DEAD!!!! I said shucks gusto ko manood!!!! Puntirya ko talaga makita in the flesh si Josh Groban, Jordan Fisher, and of course Gaten Matarazzo!!! Just a pipe dream atm because we really have no plans of going abroad. Then came this invitation from a friend, and surprisingly everybody agreed to come and meet us (more reason for us to go). I was thinking at that time, whoa everything lined up. So, we’re a GO! Sadly, JF left early last June 18, 2023. And we actually missed to see Gaten too!!! Iyak na lang eh. Should have I known that his last performance will be on November 5, we would’ve booked the tix on that date!!!

Nonetheless, our baliw magastos generous friend suddenly booked front row tickets on November 9, 2023. Annnd BLOODY HELL, the show was revengefully amazing!!!! Annaleigh Ashford was such a scene stealer and no one could have done it better than Josh Groban!! After the show, a big crowd was already waiting outside the theatre. Even though we didn’t get the chance to really talk and have our photo-ops with the cast (unlike Hamilton), we were able to see them up close and let them sign our playbills.

Thank you for Sweeney Todd, Mr. Stephen Sondheim (mainly, but also 2M2M). Revenge theatre for this revenge travel by some revengeful hoomans. 😉❤️🖤

Today I woke up and chose silliness!

(yes, the mood of my posts is all over the place but this is what you signed up for, it's literally in the name x'D)

This is another contribution to the silly rabbit au (by @cuubism ) featuring @magnusbae 's Dream in a hoodie.

I can't stress this enough. I just cannot agree with the idea of Sun willingly turning himself into Moon. If he get's pissed off enough. Because, he is popular opinion from those who say,

And agree he's mentally disturbed, and that's what he (Resort to do.) would do, kind of thing.

Yet, I feel like that's an over statement of what kind of person he is. I have a couple of things to say. That, from the book cannon, he's designed to be an entertainer.

And is a performer for young ages, and older ages. Then after get assigned to be an attendant.

Let's take one at a time, and so he's been moved over. Straight away, that is stressful.

And he felt, an a different atmosphere that would normally change the mood of someone. But for what he's going through, is different.

When he is with kids, I believe he does feel better. But, he'd never come to the point where...If he is feeling angry about something, the right thing to do is to walk away for a while. He takes himself away from the situation, he struggles to keep control.

Just so he can decompress, because he doesn't to do anything horrible. He does this a few times. When he was hiding himself from underneath the table.

When he flew himself away from Cassie, to a further away spot. So that way, he doesn't come close to her. When he tried to intervene from Moon jump scaring her.

For a character who is mentally disturbed, to do something like that. That is actually Selfless! It's minimal, but it is something big!

If he were to use Moon for anything, id think it would be for something dire. If it's a last resort thing. If he really, really needed it. Then maybe.

I typically thought he would threaten that to evil people. Not to people that he doesn't like.

Whenever the Sweeney Todd finale sequence plays, I am possessed by the spirit of Nellie Lovett. I cannot do anything until she dies, and then I get sad and nearly cry thinking about her.
