My distinguished Tumblr Followers,
After 12 years, I have officially released the final version "The Astrocartographer".
It's on my album STELRCIDE: Opposite Reaction. My newest character-centric EP, revolving around The Astrocartographer.
It only seemed appropriate to wrap up the album with a musical conversation between myself from half my life ago and myself now over their character theme. It has real strings from a real string section. I cried a lot mixing this.
Check out the rest of the album here, over there, or everywhere else.

Crewmate Red, Aka Sam, is the Skeld’s Astrocartographer and in charge of Navigations.
Self proclaimed writer and an adventurous heart, she joined the Skeld in hopes of setting her foot in the door to one day join the Mira HQ Exploration Team to map out new and unknown planets and publish her experiences.
She is always on the lookout for something new, often meticulously checking their course and anything out of the ordinary. Otherwise, she is often in the weapons bay, training with Purple and Grey. Always preparing for the unexpected.
She loves stories of Crewmate exploits and victories, wanting nothing more than to check it all out for herself.
Out of all the “civilian” crew, she WILL throw down.

do you perchance have any transformers ocs? it's alright if not I'm just curious :]
what serendipity!! I just made one! It's sort of based off of a fanart that @skylarkking drew for me of my little persona character as a transformer!!
So i expanded upon the design! here's Altair, he's a long distance travelling space telescope, and an astrocartographer!
Tumblr media
if anyone wants to they have permission to draw whatever art of him they please, but i'd love to be tagged if you do so i can reblog it!!

Barbie AU
so I just saw the Barbie movie and my brain is doing the thing where my old obsession and new obsession mesh together in an unhinged tapestry. I think I've got something good, though. Hear me out:
Cordelia is Barbie. Rather, she's a Betan Augemented Restorative Biosynthetic Intrinsic Effigy. She gets along quite well as Astrocartographer Barbie, but while she loves exploring the stars, as the years go by she also wants to settle down with a loving partner and raise children. -leave that to the Designated Alternate Parent Barbie, says her therapist -I'm not allowed to want both? thinks Cordelia. Finally, one day her pilot's helmet won't fit over her hair, and they kick her out of Barbieland.
Aral is not a Barbie, or a Ken. He's the 3rd Millennium equivalent of a GI Joe, and he's started to lose his taste for soldiering. -If war is a failure of politics," he says. "then I can't in good conscience continue to lead my men at the front-they would be better served by my going home and using my connections to stop wars from happening at all -But sir, soldiers are supposed to be apolitical -Then perhaps it's time I resigned my commission -[klaxons go off]
Together, they must survive the wasteland of the Real World and forge a new world strong enough to hold the both of them and the family they will create.

"astrocartography" is a form of astrology seemingly designed for jet setters where you are literally encouraged to spread yourself all over the world first spiritually and then physically, discovering special spiritual features of distant lands and the special parts of yourself they bring out, the stories you can unlock, that you can discover by moving there.
there's a rather tight loop in that people who make a habit of moving from country to country for frivolous reasons will only be able to support themselves through certain types of job - for instance: astrocartographic consulting.

Corrupted Starcharts
Hey, look! A fancy pinned introduction post!
-{{ URL has changed: cosmologist-entity -> corrupted-starcharts }}-
A No Man's Sky blog following a pair of Travelers, two halves, fragments of a fragment. Played on PS4/PS5 and Nintendo Switch. Some liberties taken building off of No Man's Sky's storyline and lore.
Half-Fragments
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Cosmologist Entity Raskol // Iteration: Raskol
Korvax // Traveler
They/She
An incredibly old Traveler, Raskol claims to have been around since the early days, when the universe felt much emptier and quieter. They miss those days, sometimes. Things were simpler back then.
In their early life, they were convinced beyond all doubt that they were a Korvax -- claiming to be a cosmologist entity who awoke from their crash severed from the race's semi-hivemind and the Convergence. But... they were still markedly different from just about any Divergent Korvax out there. Divergent carapaces tended to be shifty, paranoid, always in hiding. Raskol wanted so desperately to be found.
They ignored and denied the words of others, increasingly distraught at the mere mention of Travelers, or the suggestion that they were, in fact, a Traveler themself. Artemis, Apollo, -null-, even Nada and Polo were a source of frustration and rage. Raskol abandoned their freighter crew and beloved friends for months at a time, overcome with anger, grief, and conflict over identities lost and found.
Months and months were spent mostly in deep space, warping from one abandoned, corrupted star system to the next, forging a path to find answers of their own. In the end, none were found - at least, not the answers they were hoping for.
Years of running, marching to and waking from one's own death many times over... Raskol was tired. They missed their work, as pointless as it now felt. The answers to the universe were already unlocked, the Travelers born, one after another, to discover it all for themselves.
These days Raskol chooses to dwell in quiet corners of the Hicanpaav galaxy, studying the looping birth and death of the universe.
-{{ Raskol is my PS4/PS5 character, and has been played on and off through multiple wiped/lost save files since August 2016. }}-
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Astrocartographer Onfim // Iteration: Onfim
Gek // Traveler
They/He
A much younger Traveler, Onfim is far more friendly and social than their elder counterpart. Reckless and adventurous, they can't seem to go anywhere without getting their hands on anything and everything, causing a fair bit of trouble along the way.
For a time, Onfim lived as a Gek, mapping the systems they traveled in exquisite, intricate detail. Like Raskol, they could not imagine themself as something other than what they swore they were, but between words from their counterpart, as well as Artemis, they too eventually discovered their truth, and found a great deal more comfort in it than their elder did.
Unlike Raskol, however, Onfim is not one to hang in dark corners and quiet voids. An abundance of light, sound, and good company is where this young Traveler finds their peace, and as such find being alone stressful, if not downright frightening.
They currently sail through Eissentam's stars, but due to never settling somewhere for long and a constant need for new faces and places, they primarily dwell aboard their freighter.
-{{ Onfim is my Nintendo Switch character, played since October 2022. }}-
Apart, Together
Though the pair are unable to meet for longer than brief moments, they move and work in tandem, though their jobs and duties remain separate, and their homes throughout the stars light-years, if not dimensions apart. They find their connection strongest aboard their freighters -- DS-4//CS-4 Eden in the Void -- the working theory being their capital ships are mirrors to each other, somehow.
Their freighters share names and an internal layout, despite being completely different makes, galaxies apart, never truly meeting. Together with their respective capital ships, Raskol and Onfim meet and swap stories and discoveries, and have built and continue to maintain a grand city which travels the stars and the voids between, mapping systems and providing a comfortable, lively dwelling for their crews, loved ones and friends, and a respite for those in need of a ride, or an escape.

You can call me Shy! My pronouns are they/them. All that really matters about me here is I'm a big astronomy/cosmology nerd and I draw things. I've been playing No Man's Sky since August 2016; fell off for a while and came back around 2017-2018 between the Atlas Rises and NEXT updates, fell off and came back again when Endurance dropped in 2022, and have been playing semi-regularly since. Currently playing on PS5 and Nintendo Switch. If you'd like my PSN or Friend Code, feel free to ask. I would love to get some fun shots of more Travelers together! (with the hopes that, y'know, maybe someday we'll get some form of multiplayer on the Switch, lmao)

Cool we're holding hands now, anyway, do u enjoy being an astrocartographer? What sorts of testing out does mr Overseer usually do? Just like, regular functions of stuff they'd do if he accepts them, or does he put a fun twist on tasks just to push em?
Tumblr media
↼⍩ Haha! We sure are. Look at us.  ≃≃> ↼⍩ I love my job! I couldn’t see my doing anything else, actually. ≃≃> ↼⍩ Boss man usually just takes them out for a test spin on whatever their job is gonna be and sees how they’ll react under pressure without the guidance of whoever was training them! ≃≃>
↼⍩ So whatever our crews next assignment was going to be, he would take a crew of say a little less than half trainees and the rest with our regular ≃≃>
↼⍩ Then, obviously, he fabricates a crisis to see how fast on their feet they are ≃≃>
↼⍩ For my training he faked a total engine wipe out on a “incredibly hostile planet” that I charted us to and feigned ignorance on how to fix it himself. ≃≃>
↼⍩ Absolutely cruel! But.. In the end I think it was good for my development, but scary as hell!  ≃≃> ↼⍩ The crisis is actually the test for if he’s going to keep you or ship you off to some other crew. ≃≃>

Unforgotten
Enjoy this cheesy short story inspired by my playthrough of Stellaris!
Date: August 15, 2210, 0720 hours System: Sol Planet: Mars Region: Endeavor Impact Crater, Meridiani Planum Plains
Onboard the Imperial Science Ship Hawking.
Reshmi Mirza was no spacer. Her whole life was spent within Terra’s gravity well, safely studying the finer points of astrophysics at the Baghdad Sector of the Mesopotamian Urban Corridor. So when it was finally time to don a spacesuit to walk the Martian surface just outside, she knew very well she looked like a nitwit.
Well that, and Professor Hyun’s amused look as she collapsed onto the floor of the airlock getting her right foot in said it all. “Need help, miss Mirza?” He asked politely, his lips twitching upward.
“I do not. Instead of standing there like a smug mug, I need you to go and re-verify our navigational data is accurate,” she bit back.
“Smug mug...?”
“Hyun. The data.”
“Yes, miss Mirza. This is the spot. We’ve triple checked, although we had little reason to doubt your calculations.” Hyun walked over, moving to assist in putting the rest of the suit on. “Come on. One step at a time...”
Mirza growled in frustration, but nodded, letting the seasoned spacer help her. Revenge for her wounded pride would come later.
Tumblr media
The Martian surface.
In 2142, Mars had undergone a small scale terraforming effort, allowing for a colony capable of supporting life to be built on its surface. Automated underground infrastructure had been constructed, and for over sixty years, patiently waited for the first colonists to arrive from Terra.
The first colony ship was already being constructed in Terra’s orbit, but Mirza, having been given command of the Terran Empire’s first FTL-capable science ship, had gotten there first. One last stop in humanity’s birth system, before the warp jump to Alpha Centauri, three light years away.
With the INS Hawking parked safely behind them, a suited up team lead by Mirza set foot on the rust-colored Martian soil.
“So. First humans on Mars. Gonna say something historic?” Hyun grinned at Mirza.
“Uh...about damn time?” Ignoring the titters from the others---albeit with a small grin on her face---Mirza pushed onward, scanning the horizon, trying to get to business.
But Hyun’s words had a delayed effect on her, and she paused. This was alien soil. Mars. Soon to be home to thousands, then millions of human souls. And only a few months later, she would be in another star system entirely. A place that, for all of humanity’s recorded history, was just a dot in the sky. A wave of giddiness overtook her, and she ran off to get the jitters out of her system.
Before she left the solar system, before Mars would see its first human colonists, she needed to get one thing. One important piece of history.
“Come on! This way!” She beckoned to the others.
---
They walked for hours, taking readings here and there, marking important sites for later analysis. But Mirza was insistent on reaching their destination first. Their journey eventually took them through an ancient erosion network, what old astrocartographers called “Perseverance Valley”.
Tumblr media
The others didn’t quite understand Mirza’s insistence on coming to Perseverance Valley. Nor did they know exactly what she was looking for. She knew she sounded a bit bonkers. But the Terran Empire had picked her and her team for being humanity’s first interstellar explorers. She was utterly confident in her own qualifications.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7kcFE4uFZ9o
“There. We found it,” She finally whispered breathlessly, pointing ahead.
Nestled up against a mound of red soil, was a curious looking robot. From a glance, the science team could tell it was ancient by at least two hundred years.
She began taking out her dataslab, eager to access the drone’s information banks, but turned to face the others. “I know...I know what you guys are thinking. ‘We came all the way out here for a...a forgotten little robot. But I---”
“Miss Mirza. Go right ahead,” Hyun gestured. No snark or sarcasm this time, a genuine smile on his face. “We’ve got all the time in the universe. Well, relatively speaking. But I do need to ask: what are we looking at here?”
Mirza didn’t initially answer, instead delicately moving over to link up her dataslab to the deactivated robot. Thank the gods that she’d managed to find those dinosaur-era handshake protocols to even communicate with this thing.
“This rover was sent by our ancestors here, a long time ago,” she said softly, watching her dataslab get to work. “Before our great grandparents were even born. Its mission was to scout the Martian surface for ninety days. But it ended up serving Earth faithfully for fifteen years.”
Her dataslab began to display scrolling blocks of texts, graphs, chemical readings, and other information, each a separate report from the ancient rover. Finally, it stopped on the final message of the robot before it deactivated:
-- My battery is low and it’s getting dark --
Mirza reached out a tender hand, gently stroking the rover’s side. In English, highlighted by the crimson Martian sun, was the word “OPPORTUNITY”. “Come on, little buddy,” she whispered. “You’re going back home.”

-{{ I've been trying to figure out an interesting way to resurrect this blog that doesn't involve deleting the old stuff because the sort of 'story' i've built for Raskol has changed a bit... I have a *lot* I could be posting here, but until I iron things out, here are my Travelers as an offering, lmao. On the left is Cosmologist Raskol looking quite different these days; on the right is Astrocartographer Onfim, from my Switch playthrough. So glad you can rename saves now, so finally my tendency to name my Travelers is somewhat useful, heh. }}-

Starlight, Star Bright (Bones x Reader Star Trek Holiday Fic Exchange!)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
For: @southernbellestatues
Pairing: AOS Bones/Reader
Request: Fluffy (I made this as fluffy as possible to make peace for my lack of updates on my own stories) Bones shore leave romance
AN: Happy Holidays, darlin’! I hope you like this sweet little thing! It’s short, but I crammed as much fluff in it as I could. :)
The air was cool on your cheeks. Maybe it was the altitude, maybe it was the chillier season, maybe it was both...a faint quiver ran down your spine as you turned at the crunching leaves behind you.
“Jesus, Y/N, you’re freezing,” Leonard rubbed your face in his hands after setting down the basket he’d been carrying and sitting at your side.
“It’s cold and night, so I didn’t expect anything else,” you shrugged. With a characteristic grumble, he pulled you over onto his lap, looped his long arms around your waist, and rested his chin on your shoulder.
“Good thing human body heat is good for keeping warm,” he remarked. “Which, as a doctor, I should know.”
“Well, as an astrocartographer, I don’t think this is the best way for us to enjoy this evening properly,” you reminded him, “and you aren’t supposed to be a doctor right now. We’re on shore leave.”
“Then you aren’t an astrocartographer.”
“Just lay down, you stubborn man,” you said, smiling in spite of yourself. He ran his hand tenderly over your head to the back of your neck as he laid down.
He grinned, “I don’t know about you, but I like this view of the sky.” You rolled your eyes and shifted over to one side so that you could look up at the stars.
“They’re so much different down here,” you murmured, “like one of my maps, but prettier.”
Leonard didn’t respond with anything but a small hum, echoing something like bliss in your heart.
“Show me some, darlin,’“ he murmured int your hair; when you looked at him, he clarified, “Show me what we’re looking at.”
“The sky. There are stars there,” you said bluntly.
“I meant the constellations,” he chuckled. He followed the tip of your finger as it traced across the sky, a delicate brush on a deep blue canvas scattered with sparkling dots.
“So there is Delta Vega...” you pointed at one of the brighter dots.
“Wow, from here, it actually looks pleasant,” he smiled as you shoved him lightly.
“And Delta Vega is right next to Cygnus, the swan,” you followed the neck and wings, “and there’s Altair and Aquila, right over there.”
“It is different from down here, I suppose,” Leonard mused beside you. “Sure, seeing ‘em up close is fine, but the big picture...that’s really something else.”
“I love this,” you smiled back.
“...You are talking about me, right?”
“The stars were my first love,” you patted his cheek, “and then I found you.”
He made a low noise in his throat, “I’m not stardust, but I guess I’ve done pretty well.”
“Of course you are,” you turned over to look at his face, tracing over the few freckles on his face.
“If you get all sappy and call my face stardust, I’m walking away.”
“Cynic,” you kissed his nose. “You can’t get up, anyway, so I might as well.”
He trapped you in his arms, but he was grinning ear to ear, “Sounds like heaven to me.”
“Now who’s the sappy one.”
“Still you,” he pressed a gentle kiss to your lips, “but I don’t want my stardust any other way.”
You smiled and leaned into him, the shining of every star over your heads not even touching the sparkling in both your eyes.
