Every single time a trivia show has a question that I know the answer to but none of the contestants do I'm like God if only I was there...I would win that whole game...ignoring the fact that I cannot answer the other 19 out of 20 questions

What is honor compared to a woman’s love? What is duty against the feel of a newborn son in your arms… or the memory of a brother’s smile? Wind and words. Wind and words. We are only human, and the gods have fashioned us for love. That is our great glory, and our great tragedy.
Jon Snow - and family that haunts him, because sometimes ghosts make for the best love stories.

“our towers, they rose up and set with the sun / our sermons, they burnt us with fiery tongues / we wrought our wings of metal, surprised when we fell,” eastward of eden by amelia day
“The Valyrians learned one deplorable thing from the Ghiscari: slavery. The Ghiscari whom they conquered were the first to be thus enslaved, but not the last. The burning mountains of the Fourteen Flames were rich with ore, and the Valyrians hungered for it: copper and tin for the bronze of their weapons and monuments; later iron for the steel of their legendary blades; and always gold and silver to pay for it all.” a world of ice and fire, ancient history: valyria’s children
“The freed slaves parted before her. “Mother,” they called from a hundred throats, a thousand, ten thousand. “Mother,” they sang, their fingers brushing her legs as she flew by. “Mother, mother, mother!”” a storm of swords, daenerys iv

Screaming at Jon Snow's reputation being in shambles worldwide like Planetos seriously beefing with a depressed teen loser
At the wall
Ser Alliser Thorne shattered the silence. “The turncloak graces us with his presence at last.” Lord Janos was red-faced and quivering. “The beast,” he gasped. “Look! The beast that tore the life from Halfhand. A warg walks among us, brothers. A WARG! This … this creature is not fit to lead us! This beastling is not fit to live!”
In the Riverlands
“I will permit you to take the black. Ned Stark’s bastard is the Lord Commander on the Wall.” The Blackfish narrowed his eyes. “Did your father arrange for that as well? Catelyn never trusted the boy, as I recall, no more than she ever trusted Theon Greyjoy. It would seem she was right about them both. No, ser, I think not. I’ll die warm, if you please, with a sword in hand running red with lion blood.”
Lowkey in KL
“Another problem has arisen on the Wall, however. The brothers of the Night’s Watch have taken leave of their wits and chosen Ned Stark’s bastard son to be their Lord Commander.” “Snow, the boy is called,” Pycelle said unhelpfully. [...] Catelyn Tully was a mouse, or she would have smothered this Jon Snow in his cradle. Instead, she left the filthy task to me. “Snow shares Lord Eddard’s taste for treason too,” she said. “The father would have handed the realm to Stannis. The son has given him lands and castles.”
In Braavos
But they were all dead now, even Arya, everyone but her half-brother, Jon. Some nights she heard talk of him, in the taverns and brothels of the Ragman’s Harbor. The Black Bastard of the Wall, one man had called him.
It was bad for him

the thing i find the most compelling about both a feast for crows and tales of dunk and egg is that very like. humidity-heavy sense of low-grade doom just throughout. every chapter starting with someone alone reflecting on an act of violence they witnessed. the sense that something is fundamentally wrong. everyone knows it. the world is dying. it is so askew that nature is responding in kind and becoming increasingly inhospitable.
and even though everyone knows there’s something horribly horribly off the question the narrative asks is not “how do we stop the world from falling apart” it’s the much more intimate “but how do we live through a time when the world is dying.” how do we endure all that and decide to be good anyways. deeply profoundly human!!!!!!!!!

It fucks that there are so many characters that are an antithesis to one of The Seven while still embodying their traits and technically representing them. Cersei is the Mother in that she only has love for her own children, but no mercy or any sense of nurturing. Tywin represents the Father’s protection, his justice, but that justice is always unfair, and serves only him, not even his own children. I have a Rolodex of all the knights that warp the values of the Warrior. Jamie and Arthur have to break one vow to stay true to another. Sandor is vile and cruel and dishonorable, but still protective of the innocent. Tyrion does his best to mend the broken city and protect its people like the Smith would do, but is also actively destabilizing things and fucking shit up for his own personal gain. Margaery had managed to maintain being the idea of the Maiden while being married three times, and hiding her plotting under the guise of innocence and virtue. Bran is a young Crone, his wisdom and foresight forced upon him instead of being obtained naturally through age. And Arya is a wanderer with no identity, a killer who takes life at random. But unlike the Stranger, Arya is still Arya, no matter how she tries to hide herself. She is a scared girl with a bias, not killing unthinkingly but rather in order to enact her revenge and seek justice, the opposite of what Death would do. Anyways these kinds of foils absolutely fuck

yeah overthinking prophecies is the mind killer but i have to say my piece re azor ahai, that is, if it's really meant to be one character, then the best narrative choice is dany. not only because she fulfills every word of the prophecy an entire book before we even learn of its existence. but also "no one ever looked for a girl," aemon tells us. in-universe her gender precludes her from being imagined as the saviour figure and on a meta level even the readers don't think the 16 year old girl with this much power (dragons) will be allowed to keep that power and fulfill an important narrative destiny as a hero of the story. the expectation is that the character will be brought low and/or surpassed by the classic warrior hero archetype of jon. which is why i think dany being AA is the most subversive choice. and would actually make jon the red herring.

there is just no universe where catelyn likes jon i’m sorry. she knows about R+L=J? ned made traitors of her and her children, put jon’s safety above their’s and is now an even bigger threat to their lives. she hates him. Rhaegar wins and he’s prince jon? he’s still the product of the event that the entire country had to go to war for and probably got her father killed in the process. at the very least she resents him. maybe even hates him. modern au? he’s just the cousin with the teen mom that gets high with her son in the basement and sneaks arya razor blades or whatever. she hates him!

TG argument that doesn’t stand: “Alicent deserves to have her blood on the throne after all she’s been through.”
First of all, she hasn’t been through anything. She loves to victimize herself after she has been touched by the Gods and a crown was put on her undeserving head. She was not even the daughter of the Lord of Hightower, only of the second son of a non-Paramount House, and yet she became queen. Not to mention that she had children of royal blood who had been given many privileges: comfort, good food, riches, education, combat training, a secured future etc. She doesn’t have any right to complain.
Secondly, what about Queen Aemma Arryn? She has been through a lot. Unlike Alicent, she was a gracious and kind queen who never harmed anyone. Unlike Alicent, Aemma had class (a true child of Lord Rodrick Arryn and Princess Daella Targaryen).
She had many miscarriages and stillbirths throughout her life and her only child was the Realm’s Delight, Rhaenyra Targaryen, the most beautiful maiden in the Realm & the youngest dragonrider in history.
Who is more deserving to have her bloodline continue? The ungrateful and traitorous upstart who committed high treason and started a war by placing her son on the throne, or the gentle queen consort whose only crime was not giving the Realm a son?
GRRM answered that when he arranged for the demise of all of Alicent’s children and grandchildren, while the bloodline of the Realm’s Delight/the Dragon Queen prevailed.
