The Wonderful Mess We Made - WIP

Bellarke Modern/Superhero AU | Enemies to Friends to Lovers Getting superpowers was never in the plan, but Clarke thinks she’s got this vigilante thing down. She has a great team beside her and her fighting skills have become pretty bad-ass, if she does say so herself. If only she didn't need Bellamy Blake's assistance to save her town.

Or, the one where Clarke and Jasper are scientists who turn superhuman, Raven and Monty are their human friends who are no less super at fighting crime, and Bellamy absolutely does not believe in superheroes… until he meets one. That's when things get really interesting.

My first T100 fic that’s still not complete ooop. I really am planning to finally sort that out in 2021 though!

Sanditon | Post-Canon Romance/Fluff | ~17k words Some time after her trip to Sanditon Charlotte sets off on her next adventure, visiting London as Lady Susan's guest. While there she makes many new acquaintances, but soon finds she is most glad to renew an old one with Mr. Stringer.

I was just very happy with how the flow of this turned out and some of my writing in it, and it has possibly my favourite ‘getting together’ scene I’ve written.

Fic you were nervous to post?

Pretty much all of them lol, it would be easier to list which ones I wasn’t.

How do you choose your titles?

I’m terrible at titles so ususally songs lyrics, but occasionally a word of a phrase that I like from the fic or something related. Titles and summary are almost always the last thing done on my fics though, as I have a hard time with them.

Do you outline?

Yes! Though not often in a linear fashion, my outlines are usually a messy mix of very detailed sections/scenes linked together with vague thought.

Complete works?

Currently 35 on AO3, will be more tomorrow, see coming soon ;)

In-progress works?

5 on AO3, though one of those, my holiday fic where the lovelight gleams will be done later this week. And I’ve always got various things working on that are not yet posted.

Coming soon/not yet started?

I wrote a few fics for Yuletide exchange that will finish the anonymous period shortly, so those will be on my AO3 tomorrow.

Prompts?

After the fics coming out this week my next one will be my next prompt fill for @t100fic-for-blm. Don’t forget that you can keep prompting for both fics and content (i.e. art, gifs, vids, etc.) and there’s lots of talented you can request from. fic I spent the most time on: definitely in the dark - i spent a lot of time thinking/talking about this fic as a concept before i decided to actually shut up and write it which i don’t know if that counts, but i’m factoring it in. plus it’s a multi-chapter fic with an actual plot that required me to unfortunately put in effort and outline the overall arcs, etc.

fic I spent the least amount of time on: technically injured a stone, hospitalized a brick. both chapter 1 and 3 only took a couple days for me to write (chapter 2 took longer because i hate writing sex scenes) and it all just clicked for me?

favourite fic I wrote: look i love all my fics - seal my fate was really cathartic to write after the season two finale and it was probably the hardest thing for me to write because it’s in canon, but i’m really proud of it. injured a stone, hospitalized a brick was the first piece of creative writing i’ve ever done and it will forever hold a special place in my heart, plus it includes some of my favorite things i’ve written.

but in the dark might be my favorite altogether? i’ve just really enjoyed writing it and i think my writing has been getting better and stronger with each chapter (which is fun to see happen). i dunno i just really like the story i’m telling and i’m really excited about what else i have planned for it :) (also it’s the first fic that i’ve kinda said fuck it and just written what i want without dwelling in my imposter syndrome)

fic I want to rewrite/expand on: definitely injured a stone, hospitalized a brick for both! i have plans for a small sequel (probably 2-3 chapters) that jumps forward a couple months and features some domesticity, some angst, and rio boxing in an amateur boxing match - so i’m really excited to start working on that once i get another couple chapters of in the dark done! but i also plan on doing some edits to the fic in general before the sequel goes up - like i said before, this was my first attempt at creative writing and while i do really love it and think it’s technically fine there are definitely some awkward or clunky parts that i’d want to fix up (also i cringe a little when i see how many canon lines i worked in so they might have to go haha).

share a bit of a wip or story idea you’re working on: so besides the boxing au! sequel i have the following fic ideas outlined to write during hiatus: interior designer au (featuring rio as an interior designer who helps beth after her divorce), a pseudo parent-trap au (in which marcus and jane decide their parents would be great together and try to set them up through shenanigans), an HGTV au, a fic where Rio and Annie are dating and Rio and Beth end up having an affair, plus an in-canon fic where Rio using alternative means to “incentivize” Beth to stay in line. and i think at some point i might want to open up to prompts? oh god that’s a lot.

share a bit of a wip or story idea you’re working on: as previously mentioned, i have a lot of things that i’m working on all at once. but since i’m admitting to the Sliding Into Third follow-up...here’s an (unedited) preview:

“Where do babies come from?”

Rio sliced into his thumb and hissed. He immediately stuck his finger in his mouth and licked over the cut. Marcus was sitting across the island, watching him.

“What was that, pop?” Rio inspected the cut and went to run some water over it.

“How did the baby get in mommy’s tummy?” He lifted his juice cup and took a sip. “Did she eat it?”

Rio had to bury his coughing in his shoulder as he struggled not to react to that question. Clearing his throat, he looked back at his son.

“Did someone tell you that?” he asked.

Marcus shook his head. “No, but you said that there was one in her tummy and that I’m gonna be a big brother. How did the baby get there?” Big brown eyes stared up at him. “Daddy?”

Well shit.

fic I spent the most time on: it took me the longest to write be simple again but that’s just because i wrote about half of it and then abandoned it for a year. in terms of actually writing the thing, it would be the a thrill to pretty my cheek to series, more specifically my autumn touch of gold. i poured my heart into that all day, every day for like a month straight.

fic I spent the least amount of time on: knot again. i wrote it in one afternoon.

most hits: knot again, of course... spent a few hours, got over 80k hits. isn’t that just always the way?

most kudos: knot again.

most comment threads: my autumn touch of gold. that was such a fun time. there wasn’t a lot of sambucky fic yet and the fandom was full of the most wonderfully supportive people, commenting every step of the way.

most bookmarks: knot again. 13 more and it’ll be at 1500 if anyone wants to help round it out lol

highest total word count: a thrill to press my cheek to series is at 91k.

favorite fic I wrote: i actually am really, really happy with my autumn touch of gold. it was a labor of love and it was worth it. i wrote so much in such a short amount of time and i think it still holds up fairly well. i’m happy with the pacing and the the characterization and i still get messages from people about the portrayal of sam and nat and it just really means a lot to me.

i’m also always going to love disappear when you come back, my little underdog fic. i wrote it knowing that most people would not like it or want to read it but it helped me work through a lot of personal stuff. i re-read it a few months ago (over five years after i originally posted it) and i was almost impressed???? like who wrote that?? me? couldn’t have been? anyway it has my most favorite bookmark anyone has ever used for any of my fics which is:

fic I want to rewrite/expand on: i don’t actually want to re-write it because i don’t have any better ideas but be simple again is the one that i am the least happy with. the last 1/4 of it feels forced and abrupt because, well, it was forced and abrupt. but people seem to like it so i leave it up anyway.

i wish i had more installments for b-sides. i had so many planned out and a few even mostly written but then i fried my hard drive and just couldn’t bring myself to rewrite them. it’s unfortunate because most of them were nat/nakia : /

BUT i am planning on expanding it’s good when it’s not right which i shall talk about in the next section!

share a bit of a wip or story idea you’re working on:

so i have a few wips. one is the brio texting au. the other is a sequel to it’s good when it’s not right. it’s more light-heartened. it’s a 5+1 (5 times beth lies about being with rio and 1 time she doesn’t) that happens over the course of the next 1-2 years and it sort of shows snap-shots of beth and rio’s evolving relationship (feat more rio/ben interaction and def some rio/annie interaction). here’s a snippet (of neither of those particular interactions):

"I thought that was you," she says, head cocked to the side, like she thinks she just solved Blue's Clues or some shit, before her gaze shifts to Rio. "I'm Lauren. You must be–"

"Christopher," he supplies, voice neutral. He's not sure how to play this yet—doesn't know if he should break out that grin he knows gets these suburban bitches feeling all types of ways that make 'em resent their ain't-rich-enough-to-be-this-boring husbands.

"Christopher," she repeats, and he can tell she was expecting some shit like José or Hector or Gang Banger #2 and it almost makes him laugh. The Patek on his wrist is worth more than the diamond on her finger.

"How do you know Beth?" she asks and shit, now he is grinning, because yeah, he's got that cease fire with Elizabeth but it don't have nothing to do with upholding her reputation with the Neighborhood Watch standing here.

"You know, it's actually a funny story," he starts to say, at the same time Elizabeth squawks, "he doesn't."

And she's real good at a lot of things—hell, lying her ass off is usually at the top of the list—but they're still standing close enough he can feel his chest press against her arm every time he inhales and fuck if he doesn't wanna watch this play out. He cuts himself off so he can nod along, lips pursed in mock concentration, as he listens to Elizabeth stammer on.

"We don't—," she tries, then, "I mean, obviously we—" Her hands come up to gesture at the empty space in front of her. "It's just—" She takes a breath. "I couldn't reach the—," she says, plucking the fajita kit out of his hand to hold it up like it's evidence her panties ain't all wet right now, "—and he's taller, so."

She throws the kit on top of the rest of the prepackaged food in the cart, like she thinks she's made a point, and he can tell she's straining not to look at him.

...so that’s coming at some point, probably.

When you draw with the pixel brush, what canvas size do you use? I've always wanted to try it but can't figure out the settings!! Your art is SO cool ;0;

OMG thank you!!! i've been meaning to answer this for awhile but i haven't touched my drawing stuff in a hot minute. I use a binary brush with these settings in SAI!

With that, I use an 8.5x11 inch canvas at 300 dpi (for printing purposes if i ever use it, idk if it really matters or naw) and then zoom in about 200%? I crop the images after too, which usually goes to about 600x600 px? I upscale it in CSP when I go to post them because otherwise the internet CRUNCHES those pngs. I think maybe jpegs would work a little better but it's not smth I've played with a lot. To upscale in CSP, just open up a png, hit Edit>Change Image Resolution. I usually scale in inches, and make it about 20in wide or long, whatever hits first. It keeps my images looking pretty clear when uploaded!
