Askeladd is made aware of how he is nothing to you but a character in a story. He is your favorite character in the story. He smirks every time he sees you reading the manga or fanfiction with him as the main protagonist. He flexes the muscles underneath his breastplate and other armor during the edits that you watch, just to make you flush extra hard. He has always loved making the lads and maidens light-headed with embarrassment and flirtatiousness.
So, of course, he teases you just a little bit.
"Like what you see, love?"
You are in shock as you hear his voice through the edit. However, he has never said that in the anime. Perhaps it was a voice actor or an AI voice that said that line for some reason. You shake it off and continue on with your day. That one line is playing through your head throughout the day. Even if he isn't real, Askeladd is definitely a hot Viking man.
You end up aimlessly flipping through the manga the next night with that one in mind. It's just normal, so why did it sound so tender and loving when he said it? You open up to them when they are in Gorms village. You see Askeladd with his shirt off near a fireplace, drinking a horn of mead. He wears only his leather slacks as he leans against his bed frame with his muscles flexing. That wasn't in the story! You shut it quickly and opened it up, only to see him looking at you now with his trademark smirk on him. Over the next couple of days, you look through the manga once again, and that page has disappeared. I told you that he just loves to taunt you.
Askeladd knows that he knows, but you don't know that he is self-aware. So he does the most to be subtle enough for you not to know that he is self-aware but noticeable enough that you end up blushing and flustered by his teasing compliments and obvious flirtations. He manipulates the panels to show himself in his daily life. He'll even flirt with village women to see how you react. He always has a laugh out of panel and plots out of panel what he should do next to make you flustered.
Bjorn is very confused when Askeladd says that he is courting someone. "Who?" He shrugs his shoulders and is very secretive about being self-aware. He is possessive over you, as you are his reader... his lad/maiden/gentlethem. Askeladd is able to be considered a gentle yandere. He is gentle and flirtatious towards you, but he is still manipulative and possessive.
You may not realize this yet, but he is the love of your life, and one day God's will bless him by taking you into his world. He just knows it.

It's Just Like A Burning Torch In A Storm, Like A Little Flower Blooming In A Home...
The weather has worsened as Askeladd predicted.
Even as it was past noon, the sky darkened in a warning as if it were the middle of the deadly night. Snowflakes that started out so lovely of how light they were, were now raining down like arrows and blurring the sight. You could barely see any light come from York and simply trotted after the footsteps your 'leaders' and 'liege' left behind.
You scoffed at the fear of the trails being hidden away by the upcoming storm at this pace, however. Dragging Thorfinn by his wrist would take forever until you'd find shelter.
You had told him to rest his broken arm in the sling but he let it swing with every little limp he managed after you. His good arm was just as lax and he barely let out any signs of pain of how utterly and crushingly tight you gripped his wrist as you dragged him after you. Hunched like a bell ringer, his pants and groans were as quiet as a mouse.
You bit your tongue. He barely paid any attention and just let you haul you around like a dog-
A thump. Thankfully you did not let your grip falter on him as he fell to his knees. Swallowing down a sigh, you turned around and tugged on his wrist. "C'mon. The snow is getting heavier."
Thorfinn hung his head.
"C'mon." You called out louder, tugging at him again. With a dreadfully slow pace, Thorfinn managed to lift one leg after another. After helping him up, you turned around to lead the way.
The same song all over again. The scenery did not seem to change, Askeladd and friends having vanished right under your nose. It felt like you were stranded on a place familiar yet far away. Freezing snowscapes weren't an ucommon sight and they surely were not with only Thorfinn as your company but this caving, this sharp chilliness that felt paralyzing as your heart seemed to give in the longer you dwelled here - as if this place was cursed - it was a first. It was all a first, daunting and frightening. Although, you doubted you could really pinpoint your feelings right now.
You let yourself sigh in frustration as Thorfinn fell once again. The crunching of the snow has become irritating and you snapped towards him. "Thorfinn. I know you can stand. You were running towards Askeladd just moments ago," You hoped it was 'just' moments ago, "Stand up already, don't have me haul you."
All you received was another groan. Another attempt but he kept on slipping. With a growl of your own you kneeled down to hold him under his arms. Heaving him with great effort, you almost slipped yourself as the blonde stayed limb, letting you lift him up with all your might. You felt like a mother with an grown man.
You scolded him again as he simply let himself lean on you once you were up on your feet - before pushing him away and giving him a good shake.
Still, he almsot tumbled down again.
"Thorfinn!" Yelling did not seem to effect him as well as his eyes, black and blue, narrow and swollen from the one-sided brawl, barely took in your figure. His brown eyes looked like they saw right through you, not even on eye level as he still did not walk straight, and it pissed you off.
Even breathing for air was painful, the sharp coldness of this barren, damned place wanting to cut into your lungs with each inhale as if taunting you, knowing that you rely on it now. Now, stuck in this forgotten land as the snow lies down on your shoulders. It's getting heavier and heavier, ringing in your ears as even they felt like falling off your head at any moment. They might as well. The biting wind, though gentle as it was, stealing any feeling you had in your bones.
Sniffing and swallowing your snot, you yanked at his arm again, swiftly turning around and trying to march after the fading footsteps as Thorfinn limped after.
The mere sound of crunching snapped the last strand of patience you so miraciously found within you and before the young man could completely slip again, he fell on his side instead as your fist collided with his face.
"You're a complete idiot!"
Thorfinn barely let out a sound. It made the fire within you rise.
"Askeladd was damn right! You're a moron! A godsforsaken fool! Idiot! Idiot, idiot, idiot!"
You stomped your foot, akin to a child, and Thorfinn wondered why you did not let him feel your ire instead, as he gazed up at you through lidded, swollen eyes. Though he did shakily gasp as you bent down and grabbed ahold of his shirt, holding him up to your level.
"The hell do you think you're doing here?! Huh?! What the hell are you doing here?! Answer me!" You threw him to the ground just as quickly. "You have people here that want you back to a home and you are crawling back to damn Askeladd out of all people! Vile, disgusting, bastard Askeladd!"
Your pants grew louder and louder, hands on your head, as they quickly snapped from brainless inhales to a growling, longing shriek - an animal squealing in pain.
"Do you have any idea - no, 'course you don't! You're a stupid mutt! You never think, never had any brains up there, did you?!" Piles of snow were thrown left and right, partly falling on Thorfinn, on his beaten body and face. He flinched at the contact. You kept on screeching. "You always end up like this. On the ground. Like a dog!" Again, you kicked snow his way, "When you could be somewhere else, somewhere far away that isn't here!"
You snapped your arm back to a direction you believed York was, distressed glare still on your friend, "What the hell was this Leif person talking about?! Iceland?! Helga and Ylva?! They're your family, aren't they?! You have family, Thorfinn, family that is alive and well and in Iceland and they want you back! They love you, Thorfinn!" Retreating your arm, you brought your hands back to your head, pulling on your hair, pulling on the last strand of sanity this man left you. Though you desperately were scowling, you wanted to scowl, your eyes were only wide. Wide and big, distress shining in them as tears welled up in the corners. A choked sob escaped you.
"Anyone would jump up in joy hearing that their family is still alive but you didn't give a damn about what that man had to say. He said he'd wait for you. Maybe he's still there."
The screeching softened the more you talked, misty-eyed as you gazed at anything but him. Lamenting to yourself at this predicament he found himself in. Thorfinn's own eyes widened as best as they could as he managed to sit up. A breathy gasp escaped him. He's never seen you like this.
"Do you have," Sobbing, you wiped your nose, "Any idea how lucky you are to have people in this world...that want you?"
The breathy gasp morphed into sharp inhales, greedily gulping in the painful air as Thorfinn kept staring and staring at you, wide-eyed and afraid. He barely could breath.
"You could be there...but you're not. So answer me when I ask you what the hell you are doing here."
Something...something he reckoned to be akin to ringing wormed its way in his ears alongside your sobs. He saw you hiding your eyes as tears fell down your face - but he wasn't sure, the heavy snow and his lidded eyes made it difficult to truly see you. Thorfinn was not certain if he stooped this low that he had begun seeing things.
Tilting his head down to the snow - his neck couldn't find any strength anymore - he startled at the face his father's dagger reflected. Swollen and broken...dark and bruised, blood and snot oozing out of his bent nose with one of his eye hardly visible and of course, barely able to see with it anyway. Maybe it wasn't the trick of the weather but just his swollen face.
He had seen this face time and time again.
It whined and fussed whenever he looked at it, leaving him no choice but to see its pain and its borderline stupidity. The blood coated on the blade as it cut the guards.
The broken arm that almost earned worse by Thorkell's duel.
The stomach that churned whenever he trotted away like a corpse out of sheer hunger. Looking for anything he could gnaw between his teeth.
The hand that held the torch to the woman's demise. The hair she groomed was soaked in blood later, he recalled.
All that gruesome work...all the murders and the guts on the floor, the stolen goods and impaled heads...all those errands.
It was all this ugly face that he sees.
He sucked in air only to let them out in a wail. He wailed and wailed, louder and louder, his voice cracking as his tongue was tied and not able to form any words. He stared at you as you kept on sobbing.
Thorfinn's scream pierced through the heavy snow and the deafening silence. The cold, the snow, the dark, thunderous sky was nothing compared to this might, to this pathetic pain. It was louder than anything else you'd ever heard, both from the people you've killed and their pleas for mercy, and from the amount of grief he so sparingly shared with you, here and there.
Wiping your tears, you grimaced. Even through this wail that teared your heart apart, you could not help but think back on Askeladd. Oh, how wretched he'd feel this sight would be.
It hurt even more that you'd even agree.
It's Just Like A Lighthouse In Your Hands, Like A Little Flag Flapping In The Sands...
Misty-eyed, you looked down on the mutt wreathing in the snow. In his beaten state he could no longer look down at his dagger, could not form any words of remorse, imploration or grief. It was animalistic braying, as Askeladd described, howling at a moon that won't ever rise. You observed for some more, drying your face completely before falling onto your knees before Thorfinn.
His brown eyes struggled to follow your movements but that did not bother you. Watching him twitch and turn, you scooted closer and opened your arms. Arms that felt to heavy to share any burden.
Your limbs were slow, so woefully slow and heavy as they wrapped around his hunched body. Even as you gently and gingerly pressed him against you, Thorfinn continued to cry out, seeming to not have even noticed your gesture. He seemed to only gulp back for air when the side of his head was pressed against your chest.
This cringing feeling only grew worse at the rapid speed of his heart pounding against you. It was akin a bird's panicked flappings as it tried to misguidedly escape the cage it's been put in. However, you still tried to focus on the lightening aspects. How his gasps ceased and he himself tried to take deep breaths. Your hand found the crown of his head, stroking his grimy hair.
Thorfinn jumped. These calm breaths of yours tickled his head, leaving him shuddering. Gazing into the empty, barren snowscape he pondered if - maybe if, as long as he's not mistaken - you had ever done something so comforting to him before. He thought of it to be comforting at least. The familiarity of it all left him stumped as well as equally frightened. He did not know what to make of it.
Were you always like this? You have never...embraced him like this before. Was it because of him? Did he put a distance between you? Were you hesitant, perhaps reluctant to offer him soothing solace such as this? Thorfinn did not know and he did not remember.
Letting out a confused groan, he ever so tediously turned his head and gazed up to you. Chin resting on your chest as he looked up at you like an intriguied animal.
You cringed slightly at the face before you. No longer stroking his hair, you grabbed a fistful of snow and gently rubbed it against his dark blue cheek. Thorfinn did not resist but only let out a soft croak of pain. Still, his eyes never left you. "I'm sorry. I made the bruise worse." You spoke under your breath. The snow dissolved and fell apart, leaving only your reddened palm to cup and carress his face. You hoped it would soothe the injury.
Wordlessly, you continued to graze the bruises on his face with your cold hand in an attempt to lighten the pain. The blonde, as beaten and silent as he was, fluttered his eyes close whenever your fingers touched the swollen lumps nearby. He'd croak and sigh at the lightest of touches, leaning on you on his knees and face tilted up to look at you. Wiping the blood under his nose caused him to sneeze and you ripped a handful of your cloak off, offering for him to sneeze into it.
"One more time. The blood might dry and clump up your nose." He did so as told, clumps of snot and blood pulled out of his nostrills. He sniffed, inhaling the air. You threw the blood-soaked cloth away. Wiping your hand, your brought it back up to press his head against you, hesitant, but deciding to squeeze him ever so gently. Your face grimaced but you did not want to let him know.
It was almost on command. How he let his head turn around again, his ear leaning against your chest to listen to your heartbeat. His own pounded against his chest, calmly yet alone. Lonely and longingly. Aside from it, he was empty. So, so empty he would have loved nothing more than to just lean against you and sleep. Sleep forever.
"...C'mon, Thorfinn. Let's get ourselves somewhere warm." Obeying your command once again, he looked back up at you with big eyes, before lifitng himself up. You tucked a few loose strands of unruly hair behind his ears before slinging the good arm around your shoulder, with your face close to one another, you marched back to York.
A Floating Moon...You Still Croon?
He still leaned against you, that fool.
It nearly made you smile how he almost snuggled. Yet it was just as pathetic. Pathetic and ironic like the sun that decided to bless you the moment you found York again. The snow below you all but melted away by its rays and left nothing but filthy, grimy roads. You prefered it over the slippery ice.
The town was rather crowded. Carts filled with many goods pulled by healthy, decorated horses and men with respectable blades passed by. The meeting is soon to begin, you believed.
Still, it only made you more hesitant to ask for any help. Anyone you turn to could be some high and mighty ruler of a region or worse, their vessels and guards. The many swinging scabbards at their hips did not ease your anxiety.
The side of the road it was. Better behind some stables in the shadows and out of the sight of the many servants. Thorfinn looked worse for wear and a youngling like you would definitely not be welcomed with open arms. Oh, how awfully right you were.
With another person's weight on your side, you accidentaly bumped into another. Praying they'd simply scoff or ignore you, you immediately bowed your head and apologized once they argued with you.
"Hey, hey, hey! What do you think you're doing? Bumping into me, eh? Causing an accident only to rob me from my goods, eh? I know that trick." One approached while you stepped back with Thorfinn in tow, head hanging low. You shake your head, trying to explain that it was indeed a mere accident-
"Don't pull that on me. Look at you, beaten and cold. You two must be poor beggars. C'mere, we know what to do with lot like you." As soon as you were cornered and one pulled his arm back for a punch, Thorfinn snapped his arm forward and shoved the man out of the way. He shrieked, alerting the others. "Hey, now-!" The second one grabbed your shoulder, however, he was swiftly kicked off, legs sweeped under his and falling into the manure below. Thorfinn let out something of an scoff despite his unreadable gaze.
Just as your friend was ready to bash the third man out of the trio, you made a run for it. There was no time to scold Thorfinn - you couldn't afford to earn the anger of some ruler's servant!
A mere barn was found and you snuck Thorfinn to the back behind a few bundles of hay. That certainly was close...but you didn't have the strength to berate him any more.
Instead, you tended to him some more, the best that you could as beggars. The man wasn't nearly wrong. Even now Thorfinn only let out a few hums at each action and touch, nodding meekly at each of your words. It was pitiful and equally heartbreaking.
Only to you though, it seemed.
You gently placed your hand to his forehead and sighed in relieve when not detecting a fever. It didn't appear that he had any symptoms either.
The blonde just leaned into your touch, tired.
You tucked a few unruly locks away. "I have to fetch something...I'll be right back." You snapped up only to be tugged down abruptly. Widened eyes looked down to find Thorfinn grabbing your wrist, stopping you and pulling you down. His swollen lips parted for air and eyes were still unreadable. Lying a hand on his, you tried to offer a smile, "I'll be right back, it won't take long. Just stay here and don't move from your spot."
The grip on your wrist was tight enough that you had to shake it off and leave before he could jump after you.
You missed the way his hand reached for your vanishing figure.
The port was even busier, making your heart race.
It was a mystery to you how you managed to find the short, unassuming man within the crowd of bellowing merchants and sailing boats but there he was, staring at you with wide, big eyes. He blinked a few times; Not quite certain if he should even be speaking to you - with that glare you were offering him.
"I don't know any details," You began, "But I have a request. I'll do what it takes for you to accept it." The man let out a nervous, brief chortle before taking a step forward. His hand scratched the back of his neck. The best he could was bear a crooked grin. "Now, hold on, little one. You, ah," He hesitated, blinked and took a breath, "I saw you with Thorfinn the other day. You are a friend of his, no?"
The man did not miss the way you avoided his gaze.
"And you are a relative of his, right? Uncle...Leif, it was?"
The merchant laughed and his nervous tone quickly shifted to a carefree one. It startled you yet that did not stop him from explaining his situation.
That was all nice and dandy...but you did not have time to listen to old tales.
"Listen, I know where he is. I'll take you to him but for that...you have to take him back to Iceland."
Leif could not deny that your request intriguided him. After all, just like Thorfinn you seemed to be a viking despite being his friend. He never had a viking ask him for a favour.
"I'll do whatever it takes to get him there. I'll personally drag him to your boat if I must, beat him black and blue and throw him into it." Again, Leif waved his hands and hoped his awkward laughter would ease the tension...and make you realize how dramatic your solutions were. It was not neccessary, he'd say, all that was needed was a good talk and listening to each other. To follow one's heart...and he's sure Thorfinn would choose the right answer.
That was enough for you to consider it a deal. Hurrying the older man, you were suddenly stopped as he tapped your shoulder. "I wanted to thank you, young one."
Raising a brow, it only made Leif grin.
"Thank you for being a friend to Thorfinn. He used to be such a sweet and hopeful kid...but now, he'd been through hell. I don't know all of the details but I am certain his life would have been more miserable if it weren't for you. Thank you for always staying by his side."
He continued to speak. You listened attentively, your eyes widened and fearing to tear up yet again at these kind words of this kind man.
Thorfinn could count himself lucky to have people who love him.
Listen To Me, Cleave Your Way Again, Again...
The floor was cold but thank the gods not as cold as the snow outside.
Lonely droplets of water fell down one after another and another and another; Like a melody to the puddle below. Thorfinn would have liked to thank to be alone right now. Alone and with not another soul as his company, as the trio of men chased after him and handed him over to the town's guards. With no resistance, he let himself be thrown into the dungeon.
But he could not find any gratitude in his empty heart to any gods right now.
You weren't back. You said you would be but when he looked up to the shadows hovering over him, he was met with three disgusting grins and not your smile. Bitter, bewitching, bland - it did not matter, he just needed to see your smile again.
You...held him. As if he deserved it.
You deserve to be looked for right now but he could not find any strength nor vigor to get up and escape, as easily as he was capable of it. All his head was filled of where questions on your whereabouts as his heart yearned for your presence.
A guard called out to him, speaking of an visitor. His first thought was you and how you returned to him. As best as he could, he crooked his neck and uttered your name.
Yet you weren't back still. There, sitting on the ground with the brightest smile he could muster was the man who used to tell him stories as a child. He prepared himself before he spoke. "Thorfinn. I've been told of an rowdy beggar being locked up. My gut feeling told me that might have been you, my boy."
Thorfinn sighed in disappointment and laid back down.
Leif licked his lips, taking a deep breath. "...You told me how you suffered for the past eleven years since we lost you, Thorfinn. You spoke of how I wouldn't understand, and I might not, and how...you couldn't find any peace within you as long as that man was still alive."
"...That...has nothing to do with you."
Nevertheless, the man persisted, believing it to be of concern to him. The fighting, the wars, the pain - and of how he swore it to himself to bring an end to it all by bringing him home.
A home filled with warmth and people. Of stories, some true and some silly, of food and water. Of no fear for your life and your future. A place where there was love.
"I swore an oath, you know? To myself and to Thors...that I would bring you back to Iceland. Bringing you back home where you belong, Thorfinn. That is the honor I want to uphold and the least I owe to Thors."
At the utter of his father's name, Thorfinn found the fortitude to sit up. Leif's grin was even more radiant than he remembered as a child. "So, Thorfinn...let us go back home. To Iceland!"
"Home...?"
Home...how tempting that word was. How it rolled off his tongue like stenching poison.
Home...after all this time? Why? Why would he, why should he?
Could he even?
"My boy, you said it yourself!" Leif scooted closer, his grin rivaling the sun, his eyes shining like a jewel. "So we can go to Vinland!"
Thorfinn could barely catch his breath, his empty chest that barely could hold his caving heart now rising. Rising, as he remembered the tale of old times.
A land far in the west, beyond the ocean...a land so warm and fruitful and so far away that no slave drives nor wars could reach it...
"Thors wished to go there, too...and I am sure - no, certain! Certain that if he was still alve, he would have loved nothing more than to travel to Vinland!"
Thorfinn hung his head. Was he...even allowed to hear such things, let alone do them? Take action?
"Home...and Vinland..."
Not being able to hold off his quivering smile, Leif dusted himself off as he got up on his feet. He walked slightly to the end of the bars. "And if you allowed it too, Thorfinn...I invited another companion to join us."
Now standing near the end, Leif opened his palm. Squinting his eyes, Thorfinn made out an hesitant, shaking hand peeking out from behind the wall and gingerly taking Leif's own outstretching one. He gladly wrapped his fingers around it, while the other shyly wrapped theirs around him, after a good while.
Following him, behind the wall your figure appeared - and the young blonde wasted no time to jump to his knees. You turned to him, looking down with a bittersweet smile. Thank the gods, he could see your smile that he so wished for.
Voice shaking with disbelief he called out your name.
"You gave me an heart attack."
My, did you tell him of how he did give you an heart attack when you returned to the spot with Leif and found him to be gone. Of how you told the man that he must be arrested and locked up, like the idiot that he was, and that he'd best be bribed free. Leif took the initiative and kindly asked you to wait.
Grey eyes glanced between the two of you and Leif let out a sigh of relieve, his hands on his hips. Even in this odd, ridicilous and hopeful situation that you wanted nothing more than to put your faith into, you approached the bars and looked down at your friend with the sweetest smile you could muster.
"After all this...could you take me to Vinland?"
Listen To Me, Sail Away Again, Again...A Misty Moon
I'm Missing You...
For the first time since today, you could feel the breeze.
No longer was it biting or howling but simply soothing.
This road, dirty and muddy and the chants of the people going their merry way felt like a dream.
Stepping inside Leif's humble, little boat felt like a dream.
The mention of other possibly kind merchants joining as Thorfinn held your hand - it was wonderful. Once he was out, he embraced you tight, not saying a word. He worsened his broken arm with the never-ending squeeze he gave you and definitely smeared snot and blood on your neck when he buried his head in there, but you did not dare to complain. Your arms wrapped around his body, silently grateful to have him back.
In this mess that you were and the mess that you are, you felt like the luckiest person alive. You, bewtiched by the bliss, did not complain as Thorfinn let go of your hand.
He was as quiet as a mouse, anyway. You let him ponder, you let him pout to himself. But what you could not let happen was him vanishing once again.
As he did on that snowy hill to fight Thorkell.
"Thorfinn!" Yours and Leif's scream aligning with a bird's shriek. The man just got this little boy back and now you were running off as well, searching for him. He thought he finally found Vinland. Finally could honor his own oath and quench this sadness in his heart.
It was all for nothing.
The searching, the bribing, the empty promises on his behalf...your fighting, your murders, tending his wounds and holding him in your heart. All for nothing.
Yells echoed within the meeting hall. You caught a glimpse of brown and yellow make a sharp turn for it. "Thorfinn!" Yet as men tried to flee the hall, you only struggled to get inside, hearing Thorfinn's screams for Askeladd.
He seemed to have gotten in as his figure vanished from your sight and you hardly could hear him. The yelling and screaming ceased - what had happened in there?
"Thorfinn! Thorfinn, come back! Please!"
Not a reply, not a bellow of utter agony either. It was only you, screeching out his name, screeching out to be let go as the many servants and guards dragged you out. Pulling on your cloak, pulling on your hair, your arms, your face.
"Thorfinn!"
You could not see beyond the crowd. It was eerie to not hear anything from him. Now you wished he hadn't been so quiet.
"...What...? You, are dying? You...?"
The men reckoned you to be a beggar, wondering what you are doing here. Breaking into the king's meeting.
"...Don't be so foolish...and stop this nonsense. I give you my life...but...what will you do with your life...after you've taken mine...?"
Your screaming only convinced them of your madness. A mere, hysterical beggar breaking into the king's murder.
"Thorfinn!"
"...Will you take your friend with you...? Or will you do as I did to Björn...you should go, Thorfinn. Go far, far away from here. Somewhere that isn't here..."
You shall be taken away. Hysterical but maybe useful.
"Damn it, come back! Go back to Iceland, Thorfinn! GO BACK TO ICELAND!"
Iceland is not a fruitful or promising land...you shall be useful somewhere else. Somewhere that isn't here.
"...Go, Son of Thors...become a true warrior..."
Do Good, To Be Good...Do Good, To Be Good...You're Not Alone...
For the first time today, you felt the agony that dwelled within your heart, boiling there, wating for this moment.
The faces of the people, the mud of the road pressed into your face, the cuffs on your hands. It was a true nightmare.
Ripped away from the second Thorfinn let go of your hand and did not return to you. You still missed his silhouette. It was gone the moment you were hauled out of the place and thrown into the sea.
Thorfinn did not even answer your cires.
No one would now to a slave.

Thorfinn x Reader
Reader is Askeladds daughter
Fluff, mentions of the deed, SFW
word count: 1.2k
i might turn this into multiple little stories because i like the idea. Just like different scenarios regarding Thorfinn, Reader, and Askeladd.
If there is grammar mistakes or spelling errors please ignore them, i tried my best to find them all, thank you!
——————————————
Being on so many treacherous journeys just comes with the lifestyle. Having to go on endless marches day in and day out like it’s another walk in the park. Travelling with Askeladd and his group wasn’t exactly the ideal situation but you didn’t really have a choice. Being Askeladds only daughter, he was generally very protective of you and didn’t feel safe leaving you with your mother. You were a product of a one nightstand. Askeladd finding out he had a daughter was an odd thing for him, Although never pursuing a further relationship with your mother, he felt inclined to take up his fathering duty’s and keep you safe. Usually when your father would leave for a trip, you would stay with your mom, in Wales. Unfortunately, in your later teenage years your mother had gotten caught up with dangerous people and creating a not so safe environment for you. When Askeladd heard about this he wasn’t pleased, so he took it upon himself to bring you with him and teach you how to defend yourself. He thought you were old enough to be with him on his travels. What he didn’t expect though, was for you to catch feelings for the only other teenager in his crew. Thorfinn. You not having known what your Dad has done to the poor kid, couldn’t help but develop feelings for the boy. You guys didn’t talk much, if you did it was a quick couple words. Thorfinn doesn’t talk much in the first place so it is hard to engage in a conversation with him. However, you will talk to him any chance you get. He’s injured, perfect you can tend to his wounds. He’s leaving to eat by himself, you make sure he has enough food and water. Since Thorfinn is usually straight faced at all times, you can never tell if he appreciates the gestures or not. He never tells you to stop or tells you off, so you just assume he doesn’t mind.
Thorfinn definitely doesn’t mind the gestures, if anything he enjoys them but is to proud to say anything. Having known you’re Askeladds daughter, at first he was incredibly upset with your existence. But it was not long before he came to the realization that you had nothing to do with what your father had done to him. He still doesn’t recognize his feelings for you, but he knows he feels something and Askeladd was not having it.
He couldn’t believe that his only daughter had fallen for that scoundrel. He admits Thorfinn had been very useful to him and he’s somewhat thankful, but no way in hell he’s going to let him get with his precious daughter. Askeladd did everything in his power to keep you guys separated, but you were too stubborn, always clinging to Thorfinns side. As much as he could see Thorfinn pretending to dislike it, Askeladd knew he was secretly enjoying it
In one particular incident, you had gone to visit Thorfinn while he was eating alone when you guys had stopped in a little village. You had been sat beside him talking his ear off, not that he said anything back. It was getting later than you could realize and you ended up falling asleep on his shoulder. At first he was taken aback, his immediate reaction being to push you off of him. But when he looked a your, oh so beautiful face he couldn’t bring him self to disrupt your peace. As Thorfinn was admiring your face looking at every wrinkle and stray hair that had fallen in front of your face. Askeladd rounded the corner catching the boy tucking your hair behind your ear and caressing it further. Askeladd was enraged that he had the guts to preform such an intimate act on you.
“What do you think you’re doing?” Askeladd spat at Thorfinn in a harsh tone. Thorfinn jumped at the stern voice, he had thought no one would find them out here. The one time he was bold enough to admire you he had been caught, and by the worst person, your dad.
“uhh…. i was just… relaxing?” That was the only thing Thorfinn could muster up. “Relaxing.” Askeladd said in a flat tone. “Relaxing my ass, you were trying to cop a feel.” Thorfinn immediately denied any intention of touching you in any other way, than how he just had. It went silent. Thorfinn had begun glaring at Askeladd for ruining the moment, and Askeladd glaring back at him for touching his daughter. “Take your hands off of her” Askeladd finally spoke up. Thorfinn was confused for a second, his hands weren’t on you anymore. Then he realized that his arm had absentmindedly wrapped its self around you to support your body. Thorfinn rolled his eyes and sighed “No, it’ll wake her, you wouldn’t want to wake your precious daughter would you, old man?” Thorfinn said, his voice dripping in sarcasm.
“oh you little brat!” Askeladd replied, now angrier than before. “i don’t care if it wakes her, get away from her or i’ll rip your arm off”
“jeez okay old man. Don’t get your panties in a twist.” Thorfinn slowly shook you trying to wake you in the most gentle way possible just to make Askeladd more mad. “Hey, (y/n). Wake up, i’ll bring you to a proper bed” He whispered, but made sure it was loud enough for your dad to hear. Askeladd just rolled his eyes trying not to rip Thorfinns head off.
“huh, oh…Thorfinn.” was the first thing you said when you woke up. You looked so pleased to be woken up by him, it made Askeladd sick. “sorry i must have fallen asleep” you apologized. “don’t worry about it, just go find a bed to sleep in.” Thorfinn replied. As you stretched you pushed your head further into Thorfinns neck, keeping it there. Thorfinn could feel your hot breath on his neck, it made his hair stand up. Now this was extra awkward. Thorfinn realized that you hadn’t noticed your dad standing about 2 metres away from you guys.
“ahem…..” Askeladd cleared his throat to make him self noticeable to you. As soon as you heard him you jumped up, looked at your dad and got up from beside Thorfinn. “ohhh, Haha… Dad i didn’t know you were there….” you said in an embarrassed tone. Askeladd hated how you were so smitten with the boy sitting on the ground. Enough to cuddle up to him unprovoked. “we are leaving, you can sleep in my room tonight. If i hear you get up you’re dead.” your dad said in a harsh tone. Meanwhile, Thorfinn was enjoying how angry Askeladd was getting over something so trivial, it’s not like he caught you guys doing the deed. Although that probably would have been funnier, Thorfinn thought. The boy sat on the ground with a smirk waiting for Askeladds next move. Askeladd began to walk away with you tailing, when Thorfinn spoke up and said
“(y/n), you should come sleep with me more often.” purposefully making it sound more lewd then it actually was, in order to make Askeladd more mad. You turned red with embarrassment and looked at your dad, who was fuming. You then looked at Thorfinn and whispered an “okay”.
“ YOU’RE GETTING IT NOW BOY!” Askeladd had snapped, shouting at the boy for who knows how long as Thorfinn sat there trying not to laugh. Once Askeladd was done, he pulled you to his room. You gave Thorfinn a quick wave, and he just nodded. As you retreated you were wondering what you had gotten yourself into…

hello !! i’ve been reading almost all your vinland saga posts, they’re AMAZING !! could i request a teenager!thorfinn x fem!reader headcanons about being in a relationship for the first time? such as how affectionate would thorfinn be, would he be shy around his gf? would they step any further into the relationship? basically like teenager!thorfinn x fem!reader relationship headcanons. thank you sm !!<3
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Well… his gf definitely has their work cut out. Because Teenage! Thorfinn is not affectionate. He’s going to have to be re-introduced to that affection because it’s just not him…right now.
The most affectionate side would be covering his gf from the cold; however! He would be protective of his gf and not the over bearing jealous kind but he’s like “Did you eat today or not?” Or fighting any guy that’s being rude to his girlfriend. Doesn’t like his gf hanging around a certain bald man. 😭 he’ll pout his lip.
If his gf plays her cards right Thorfinn would be willing to sleep on her chest.
Would he be shy? Yes and no. Like hand holding? No he’s not shy. But if his gf asks for a kiss infront of the other Vikings Yes he’s going to be shy because he would like a kiss but he has a reputation to uphold so you’ll see his cheeks turn pink a bit. Bathing together? He’s beyond shy and his gf just has to know to be cool with it.
Askeladd probably tells him that he needs to be kinder to his gf and while it may look like Thorfinn would rather not listen to Askeladd’s advice he knows he’s right. So lol ..Askeladd tries give him good advice last time he just casually said and wasn’t really thinking “slap her on the behind. that always get the girls in London.” And Thorfinn actually does it! (Hopefully his gf likes it 🤷🏼‍♀️ ) So, Askeladd tries to give Thorfinn good advice. ♥️
But! Thorfinn would be very loyal to his gf. No matter if a pretty girl tries to flirt with him he’ll be loyal to his gf. (Probably scares her away when he scratches his hair and fleas come out 🏃🏼‍♀️ girl PLEASE BRUSH THIS MAN HAIR)
Ooo and he’s going to say woman …a lot! But he thinks it’s a pet name 😭 because that’s what other Vikings call their lady of the night, so Thorfinn just calls his gf that a lot. If they like it, that fine but if she doesn’t she’ll have to be the one to say don’t call me this or call me that.
Again, and this has to do with a later chapter but. When I say Thorfinn’s gf has their work cut out for them lol she really does. Thorfinn believes women can just shoot out breast milk..so he’ll casually ask for some. “Give me some milk, (Name). Squeeze some out for me.” (😭😭😭) she has to explain how that works, but hey! Thorfinn learns something new.
Kissing? His gf has to teach him that too, and Thorfinn is an okay learner. He’s very rough and if he’s mad he’ll gently bite her lower lip. His gf has to teach him! Kissing 101!
Thorfinn picks on his gf a lot too; like if they are shorter than him he’ll pick on their height. If they are taller he’ll tease her too. (It’s his first time dating go easy on him)
All in all he’s a great boyfriend; the pros outweigh the cons. ♥️

Can I get a Canute and Thorfinn x Reader love triangle? (Canute likes reader, Thorfinn like reader, Reader is torn) for a Valkyrie/Angel-esque reader? (They fight as a dance and sing and keep morale high). Three idiots in Wales, but with affection.
──────────────────────
𝔲𝔫𝔱𝔬𝔲𝔠𝔥𝔞𝔟𝔩𝔢
summary ;; — you were untouchable, many of them even wondered if you were human. perhaps you thrived off of the art of war, but even if you weren't someone of this world, you made them feel like people outside of battle instead.
featuring + contains ;; — thorfinn x gn! reader x canute (love triangle). slight fantasy aspects regarding reader but it isnt confirmed what they are or if they really are supernatural, just an angelic seeming reader.
a/n ;; — got a thorfinn x reader thing with a similar concept, if any of u like this then u should give it a read

Tumblr media
  ⋆*・゚:     :✧*⋆   ・゚
you were a bit of a mystery. no one knew much about you, besides your name and that you could fight. some of them didn't even know your name, but each of the men were aware of your almost regal style of fighting. regal, if you weren't killing men within seconds. it came to you naturally, you never faltered in your movements and they were never rushed nor sloppy. precision was your forte, and power exceeded from every swing of your blade. they stayed out of your way and you stayed out of theres, in a way, you were askeladds secret weapon during battle.
you were unreadable and untouchable, with nothing in your way and nothing fazing you. most knew the way of battle as bloody, brutal and barbaric, whereas your battle was showcased as an art rather than a bloodbath. even comparing the two was an insult, they were essentially the same things yet so stark in contrast to the witness. no true viking fears death, a true man awaits the day they are killed and kiss the world goodbye whilst greeting valhalla, but each man you slayed died in true fear.
perhaps, they wonder, a valkyrie does not take you to valhalla. perhaps the valkyrie is the one to slay you first.
what other logical option would there be?
when askeladd is given the duty of keeping the danish prince alive, who was better than two of his best warriors to guard him? even askeladd himself felt almost awkward and on guard around you. he was a casual man, but your inhumane and unreachable characteristics made it hard for even the most carefree to remain unwavered. but he did note than in the end, you were just a kid. he hadn't the faintest idea about your past or what had occurred for you to want to fight alongside him and his men, and it likely wasn't the wisest to have not one, but two kids grow up alongside vikings, but he couldn't ignore the feeling of something akin to almost pity.
but as always, you agreed. you had heard a little of this prince from hearing little bits and pieces from askeladds men, but you hadn't met the prince just yet. you wondered if he would be the typical pampered prince or if he would be aware of the battle and war he'd be getting into, but either way, you had a job of protecting him so you would make sure to succeed in doing so. you were aware you'd be working with thorfinn to ensure his safety, but you weren't too worried about him. both of you scarcely even knew the others name, just remembering eachother as the other kid who had grown up with the vikings.
there was a mutual sense of respect binding the two of you together and you were both aware of the others strength and abilities in war. you were of the same age and seemed to tolerate one another more than the rest, even if you had never talked properly. you were mildly aware of his harsh upbringing and want for revenge due to the death of his father, and he was aware of your capabilities and how you separated yourself from truly being one of the vikings.
the three of you were brought together when you had been introduced to the prince and his carer, who spoke more for him than the prince did himself. you and thorfinn stood alongside one another whilst him and ragnar stood opposite, askeladd hastily making introductions and summarising to ragnar that you and thorfinn would be the ones to protect the prince. you heard his name was canute, and you wondered if someone as fragile as him was truly next in line for the throne. he was pale and pretty, even though the upper half of his face was covered with a mask. with long golden hair cascading past his shoulders and down his back, he almost reminded you of freya.
with your arms behind your back, a straight posture and your analytical eyes set on him, he cowered behind ragnar. you felt almost sorry for him, feelings as though he was something to be treated with care and not someone who was against his brother to become king. obviously, thorfinn saw this as well but instead of feeling sympathy, he saw him as a joke. " he's the one who's going to be the king of denmark? " he mutters, and you're unsure of whether he's talking to you or himself. " it's like they've purposely sent him off to his death. " your murmur back nevertheless, the conversation ending before it began as your eyes met for what the two of you think was the first time since meeting eachother.
thorfinn shows his obvious dislike towards canute, glaring at him wordlessly and making him even more overwhelmed. once thorfinn had left, you looked back at him and it seemed like he was looking at you as well. it was only for a split second, but you could've sworn he had slightly parted his lips to say something before shutting them tight and remaining silent.
but you had grown to learn these two more and more after this. the three of you would usually be together more or less, as you and thorfinn were partnered together in this task and canute was who it revolved around, so it was a bit obvious. and strangely, you didn't mind them either, and they learnt to look past your perfection and become more comfortable as well.
they were both quiet, but their silences were completely different to the others. thorfinn was mean and stubborn, but he was real and loyal. the two of you sat in comfortable silence, giving what little help you could offer to other as both of you knew well that neither of you belonged in this band of vikings, and that you had no one else to rely on but eachother. you had grown used to relying on your blade and survival instincts as it was obvious that you weren't fit to be a viking, but it was strangely nice to have someone else who was like you in a way. he was sarcastic, but once the conversation between the two of you began, everything was fluent and without tension. the conversation flowed freely, and you had forgotten how nice it was to genuinely converse with someone else.
he didn't speak much, but he was meaningful and his short replies were honest and held true interest. you had someone you could rely on whilst in battle and he had someone he could go to when he felt drained and burnt out from his endless cycle of training and want for revenge.
canute was shy and easy to tease, so much that you couldnt help but take every chance you could to lightheartedly tease him, and sometimes it flew over his head. you let out quiet giggles every time he flustered, and even when he was oblivious, he blushed at how you laughed, noticing that you were teasing him. he was unlike any idea you had of him before you had met, and his cooking was good too. it took a while for him to ease up and let his shoulders relax, but after a few minutes, he couldn't help but feel at ease. canute indulged in emotions a lot, and it was surprising due to how he seemed almost emotionless due to how little he spoke in the beginning. always flustered, always looking at you even when you were far away, and always noticing little things about you.
he was intimidated at first, your calamity scared him. he felt more on edge due to how at peace you were, hiding behind his red cloak even more at seeing how your eyes were focused on him. he felt slightly insecure, but you put him at ease as well. in the beginning, your attention to him whenever you spoke was overwhelming, but then he began to feel like for once in his life, he was being heard.
his fondness for you never changed, even after the death of ragnar and his realization. he saw you as someone who was essential for him to become a good king, and he always kept you in his mind even after becoming king, indirectly thanking you.
everything became more meaningful, chattering on to thorfinn comfortably about literally anything whilst travelling to another village, cooking with canute while he teaches you, training and sparring with thorfinn, fiddling with canutes hair, little things that made you happier than you were before. you used to maintain your perfection and live with your own company, but now you weren't completely on your own and surrounded by men you didn't fit in with.
you were aware of their dislike for one another, but you tried your best to stay in the middle and try to bring the three of you together. you didn't think it was possible to have been able to find something that interrupted your cycle of battle and your loneliness, because you had come to enjoy their company more and more when getting to know the two strange individuals, and they felt the same. both were overwhelmed and intimidated, and both learned to love you all the same.

askeladd x thorkell x fem! reader
don’t be shy, i know we all have thought of this moment at least one time!! enjoy this short os!
tw : threesome ; oral sex ; unprotected sex ; dirty talk ; they are devoted to you ; a little daddy kink (askeladd). words : 1254
Tumblr media
- I can’t believe you agreed to do this, (y/n), Thorkell said by undressing you.
What a fool, you thought. Of course you couldn’t refuse. You already had sex with them separately, but tonight will be different. Tonight will be an experience. - Are you ready to be our little princess ? Askeladd asked. - I think so…
You’ve never done that before, and you didn’t know how to start. Lucky for you, you had two good professors. Askeladd carried you on the bed so the two of them could lie down near you.
Thorkell offered you a deep kiss and you responded to him. You gasped at the same time because Askeladd caressed your breasts. The first one’s tongue was dancing with yours as he took your head in his huge hands. His soft touch made you melt and you started to squeeze your legs, waiting for one of them to take care of you. - Seems like someone needs something down there…Askeladd whispered. Don’t you agree, Thorkell ? - Sure, he mumbled against your lips. Let me serve you.
Thorkell placed himself between your legs while Askeladd still pinched your nipples with his fingers. The feeling of Thorkell’s mouth on you made you squeeze your legs even more, but you knew he loved it. In fact, he loved everything as long as it was about pleasing you. - You like it when he eats you, right ? Askeladd asked.
His sparkling gaze was so hot. You nodded and he kissed you. Thorkell continued to taste you with a devilish appetite. He knew exactly what he was doing by circling your clit with his tongue. As soon as he pushed two fingers into you, you felt your orgasm strike you so deeply. Your legs locked his head on you while you crushed your cunt against his mouth. You could hear him moan so loudly. - Let him breathe ! Askeladd laughed. The poor man’s gonna pass out in front of us !
But Thorkell wasn’t this kind of man. Instead of feeling exhausted by his last meal, he crawled on the top of you. His desperate cock knocked on your thigh. But Askeladd looked at him with challenge in his eyes. - My turn to please her, he said. Don’t be selfish, Thorkell. Watch and learn.
Thorkell scowled, amusing you. You couldn’t help but feel precious by creating jealousy between them. They noticed your amusement so the tension fell a little. - Okay... Thorkell surrendered. But if (y/n) is okay, I'ma fill her mouth with mine, while you fuck her with yours.
You imagined what Thorkell was Thorkell was talking about and blushed immediately. To be honest, you didn’t dare to ask for this… Askeladd cupped your face in his hand, gently slipping his thumb near your lips. - My beauty, do you want to do this ? - Ye… Yes, please, Daddy. Please fuck me. - She calls you Daddy ? Thorkell complained while frowning. Why you ?
But Askeladd didn’t respond. What you did with him in private was your business, not Thorkell’s. - Get an all fours, Askeladd demanded.
You obeyed, and he smacked your ass with no mercy. You looked at him and saw in his eyes that he was going to please you as rarely. Meanwhile, Thorkell placed him in front of you. You could see his strong thighs ready to appreciate your work on him. You inspired deeply before starting taking him in your salivating mouth, but at the same time Askeladd pushed him inside you without any warning. You whimpered in surprise but he didn’t seem to care. He started to pound into you so deliciously. You loved his contact so much, he fitted you perfectly.
Thorkell took your chin between his index finger and his thumb. His determinate eyes pierced yours. You teased him by caressing his tip with your tongue. He growled. - Ah, don’t play with me, (y/n), he sighed. Take me like I know you can, you little bitch.
Even if Askeladd threw him a warning look, he grabbed your neck and pushed your mouth around his length. You gasped a little but you were used to his size, it wasn’t your first time. You spat on his cock before continuing to taste it. You were filled by all your sides, it was delicious. Your brain was lost between the pleasure you get and the pleasure you gave. - Let me hold your hair, so I can admire your dirty little mouth swallow me,Thorkell mumbled. Just like that… - My love, that ponytail suits you so well, Askeladd said with a smile in his voice. So sexy. - I agree, Thorkell added, and he pulled your hair a little.
Tears started to fill your eyes, not only because of your will to gag, but also because of Askeladd fucking you so deeply. When he touched your clit to stimulate it, you squeezed your legs. It was hard for you to keep doign both : giving and receiving. - So eager to cum, don’t you ? There’s no hurry, my love…
You wanted to answer him, but you couldn’t even think of speaking. Your saliva had started to drop on the mattress, while Thorkell was holding your head between his huge hands so you couldn’t escape his assault. As always, his tip mistreated the back of your throat. - Oh my god, Thorkell whispered. - Just come on her face, Askeladd advised. She loves that. Don’t you, my love ?
You managed to escape Thorkell’s grip only a few seconds.  - Yes, Daddy… I do. - Ask him then, I know you also love to beg for what you want.
Askeladd smiled at you and you looked back at Thorkell. With his mid-long hair falling around his face, he was handsome. Drops of sweat were rolling all along his pleasured face and his strong chest. - Please, come on my face…
Thorkell’s eyes opened wide : it’s true that you never had this kind of behavior with him. But it didn’t seem to disturb him. Usually, you would let him lead the show. - I’m gonna come on your beautiful ass, Askeladd warned.
Your legs were shaking in an out of control way. Your two partners were catching their breath while taking care of you. Askeladd invited you to join him in the bath he had prepared. You slowly sat between his legs, your back against his chest. The heat made you feel safe and calm. Near you, Thorkell was dressing up. - I gotta go, my soldiers are waiting for me… We planned to burn the midnight oil. - Fine, Askeladd said while wrapping his arms around your shoulders. Hope you enjoyed it, 'cause I did.
Thorkell winked at you, but you had become the shy girl that he always knew again. - I’m not done with you, (y/n), he warned. You’re gonna call me daddy too.
And then he left. You stayed a little moment with Askeladd, without talking. You two were recovering from past events. You also love to have some chill time with him. - That was good, he finally said, caressing your soft skin. What do you think ? You wanna do this again ?
You pretended to consider the offer. Of course. - 'Course I want to, that was great. But aren’t you a little jealous of another man giving me pleasure ? I know you like to own me.
Askeladd kissed you on the cheek and you blushed. - Actually, I loved seeing you wiggle under Thorkell’s gestures. I know he has some skills too.
He drove his hands under the water to touch you here. You gasped and instantly searched for a deeper contact. But he stopped. - I also know I’m the only one who can make you feel like this simply by approaching you.

What is your current brain rot? What is itching the back of your brain but you just can’t write it out?
I would like to give a shout out to the Baki men because ideas for them usually come to me pretty easily. Sometimes I get in ruts with my Baki stories, as is prone to happen, but those ruts usually resolve themselves pretty quickly and for that I am very thankful. ✧˚·.*˚✦
HOWEVER. THAT IS NOT THE CASE FOR EVERY FANDOM. ᗜ˰ᗜ
Ever since I started reading Vinland Saga my mind has been consumed with thoughts of writing a reader x Askeladd story. I have the plot and progression and all that shit up in my brain but when I go to write it, it's just... so overwhelming. I know I just gotta devote the time, but I think I am still worn out after writing two longer fics that my brain is still cringing at the thought of truly having at it. ( ̄ ̄|| )
Tumblr media
Anyway, he vexes and mocks me and it pisses me off. >:(
And if any of the rest of you are struggling (you included, miss Momo) with any writing issue BS know you got this and you are wonderful and that shit is gonna get written and be amazing regardless of if it is fighting you the whole damn time or not!!!
─=≡Σ((( つ•̀ω•́)つ LET'S GO!
Here's a visual representation of me rooting for you all, btw:

I got cat called today. Like, literally, cat called. Instead of saying my name, this dude went 'pspspspspsps' like you do to a cat. So I turned around and asked him if he thought I was a cat because he's calling me like a cat.
So anyway, Canute would totally do that to Thorfinn. Thorfinn would be training or working, and Canute would just sneakily come up behind him and go 'pspspspspspspsps'.
Thorfinn sometimes hisses when Canute does this.
End of story.

[Mentions of murder, death, war, slave trade, harrasment against women and whatever awful things happened in the viking era. Only mentioned and used as examples. Mostly gender-neutral examples but female-leaning ones are there, too.]
[This part will specifically mention: Death of character, Canute being slapped, pillaging, mention of Canute not taking care of himself to the point where he could die, slight gore, Thorfinn leaving you alone, uh oh its Thorkell time]
So It Goes On And On Not Knowing When It Went Wrong...
So. While things have changed a bit, all around everything still seemed the same.
Marching on and travelling by wagon is not bad at all, you noted, and so far nothing has really threatened the prince, that was constantly attempting to glance at your direction.
Ragnar is quiet all around except for the prince and Askeladd hasn't shared one of his 'great plans' in a while, too.
Thorfinn was as grumpy as ever, always by your side.
Yet the snow has gotten heavier.
It was worrying at best...the road to the king was long.
And the food was running low.
So I Just Feel and Feed The Blood That's Inside Me...
It was only a matter of time.
Of course. Askeladd being Askeladd, being the cunning and clever fellow he was, the leader of hungry, savage vikings would take all a single village had to feed his.
You heard the priest, who traveled silently along you with his alcohol in hand, shriek and call out. Björn quickly beat him into submission.
Ragnar argued to leave these good, religious people alone while speaking as little English as possible.
You were just glad Askeladd did not order you to 'help'. You'd stay far back, as far as you could, watching over the prince. You wondered if he could hear the same things as you.
The young man was hunched and not peeking at you for once. Even while no one was there, Thorfinn still insisted to sit close by you, squeezing you into the wall of the wagon and keeping Cantue a good distance away. He said nothing.
Just as the food arrived, he handed you meat. Telling you to eat while you could and that food was food. Canute got his portion from Ragnar.
You cared for your friend. Yet at times you observed his apathy that was as equal to enemies as it was to innocent people.
Still, such things are quickly forgotten. It isn't the first time, after all.
You got food, you got water, and supplies. You'll survive and so will the prince.
All was the same...including when Ragnar invited you once again to eat. Food was food and especially delectable when it was cooked safely.
You convinced Thorfinn to go. Whether or not out of trust and companionship for Canute and Ragnar or for the fact that was it was free and cooked food. Safely cooked food - miles better than charred fish.
Thorfinn pouts. He doesn't particularly care for 'lunch' but if one; you were to go and two; there was food, he'd have no choice but to oblige.
It was eerily similiar to the first dinner - Canute cooked while Ragnar helped set the table. Only would he glance at you from time to time, the smile on his face fading.
Whether or not you note that the man is not fond of his son - well, his prince, fancying you, is up to you. But know that he won't openly do something against his affections as long as they don't cross a limit.
He cannot have his highness believe he can just have you stay at his castle and marry you...
Thorfinn noticed too, and while he understands where the man is coming from, that does not sour his mood any less whenever Ragnar has to...scowl at you like that.
Canute is as shy as a maiden. He cooks and it is like he had forgotten about the pillage as he asked you bashfully how the dish was.
Soon the shanty is filled with conversation of the past until Ragnar was called out by the rest of the band. Eyeing the trio requesting for his presence, he promised Canute he'd return soon and for you and Thorfinn to continue protecting him.
With an narrowed gaze you watched them leave. The door was closed to keep the snow out. Their footsteps slowly grew quieter and finding the table to be cleaned already, Canute shyly attempted smalltalk with you.
You admitted to yourself that you were barely listening. When you looked into the faces of the men, the bandmates that you knew, you could only see Askeladd.
The table shook and rumbled as the men put Ragnar's cold body on it, more carelessly than planned. Askeladd glanced at them before gazing back to Canute with the same narrowed and focused eyes. The latter was trembling at the sight.
"It was an ambush." Askeladd began, continuing with an empty explanation and the request to keep moving forward. Whoever killed Ragnar must be on their heels - and with Thorkell in tow, they'd best hurry.
They leave shortly after with only you, Thorfinn and Canute staying. Your blonde friend said nothing as he prepared his things. Canute could only stare wordlessly at the corpse in the room.
There it was again. Maybe the sliver of compassion left in your heart or the knowledge that it is difficult to move on from death but it is a must anyway - no matter what the reason may be, you once again decided to appraoch the prince.
With a hand on his shoulder, you turned him to you. His dilating eyes couldn't meet yours. "Prince...what Askeladd said is unfortunately true. If we stay, we will all die here. It hurts, but we have to keep going."
It worked in a way as well...as if in a trance, Canute let you lead him out of the shanty by the hand and into the cold snow. His gaze, as wide as a deer's, was glued on Ragnar until he was inevitably out of sight.
The trance was quickly broken though.
The moment Canute was forcefully thrown into the wagon, he found his voice in an agonizing scream again. His big eyes shut close for the first time only to spill out tears as he yelled out profanity after profanity, order after order to have Ragnar not be left behind in some nowhere shanty but properly buried in honor.
The leader of the band made it quickly clear that they do not have time for funerals and honor - a mountain of a man with a bloodlust no warrior deities could match was after them - after him - so he could cease his bawling.
"Ragnar!" His name left his mouth again, his throat beginnning to hurt. If he himself could not stop his grief, then it was Askeladd leaving his face bruised in a hard slap.
"Ragnar is dead. No matter how many times you call out for him, the dead will not hear you. Not come for you nor help you."
Canute brought a hand to his throbbing, red cheek. The tears stopped for a moment as he stared at Askeladd in disbelief, voice shaking.
"...It was you..."
It was clear to everyone witnessing that there were more words to be exchanged, yet the man was faster. Without any hesitation he ordered for everyone to keep on marching no matter what. With a flick of his finger, he pointed back to Thorfinn and you, telling you to keep on having an eye on the prince.
You didn't know what to think. But as Thorfinn helped you up on the wagon and Canute silently hunched in his seat, you only knew you felt anger.
Keep Your Precious Justice To Yourself, Bud...
Only a few days have passed but each was as dull as the next.
Thorfinn and you still had the priviledge on sitting on the wagon next to Canute, who stayed hunched in his lone seat. He hadn't spoken a word ever since Askeladd's lesson of death.
The band's mood darkened like the grey and cloudy sky. Snow kept on piling and piling up and you often had the displeasure of getting off the wagon and pushing it through the thick white while Canute stayed put, not lifting a finger nor his head.
Thorkell was close - everyone knew. Besides the whsipers, only Björn spoke to the band's leader.
Thorfinn ate, slept and sat as if nothing was wrong. SInce the days have been quiet, he barely paid any attention to the prince, and would only acknowledge you. Though due to the gloomy atmosphere among the men, you barely were in any mood to talk and the blonde knew it.
At times he'd nudge you, asking how you feel. He shares his food, dividing it in two, or lets you drink fom his water sash. His blanket and cloak are, of course, also yours to share.
Yet he doesn't even lift a finger for Canute. The young man is grieving in solitude even while surrounded by men there to protect him. He does not reply nor answer anyone's call.
You take a part of the loaf of bread Thorfinn shared with you and offer it to him.
Thorfinn glares at the exchange disapprovingly. Still, he lets you do whatever you think needs to be done.
Even if he doesn't really get it or see it as neccesary.
It takes time, but Canute lifts his head ever so slightly before taking the bread. He chewed on it slowly.
The prince may not speak and seemed even quieter than he was at your first meeting, but he at least acknowledged you and your actions. Whenever the men realized that they would also have to look out for the young man - after all, he cannot starve or die of thirst or cold - they would turn to you for the task. Canute only seemed to accept your deeds and your words.
Ragnar wasn't here to baby him anymore, after all.
As heartless as it may sound, Thorfinn also saw Ragnar's actions as babying Cantue. And now, you are doing the exact same.
After some time Thorfinn would definitely whisper to you, whisper how you are smothering and mothering him. Look at the princess. He barely cannot eat or drink by himself. Another round of your kind and honeyed words will have him demand that you start feeding him as well.
Whether or not you shush or agree with him is up to you. But it cannot be denied that Canute cannot be left alone or else he would easily allow himself to die.
Some men gossip among themselves how you have taken Ragnar's position. None found any glee or schadenfreude in that fact, however, and were more focused on the inevitable meeting with Thorkell the Tall.
Higher Than The Sky And Deeper Than The Sea...
And so it came.
You remember it well. How Thorfinn, sitting next to you, grabbed your arm and shifted you closer to him. His cold glare was aimed at the road covered in snow in the distance and his voice was in a low whisper.
"We have to start looking out for the others as well." He began curtly and dry. Brief with his assumption that something was wrong here in the band, that none of the men liked where any of this was going.
They did not like the plan. The marching. The secrets Askeladd kept to himself and the feral giant hunting them down. It would only be a matter of time before a fight would ensue.
"Look out for yourself. Stay alert." He told you and with that, let go, as if nothing had been exchanged between you at all.
And just like that, it was like a prophecy.
The bridge the men were ordered to destroy was nothing but a pebble on the road for Thorkell. He and his men were visible over the hill and with just one swing of his arm, a spear impaled three men.
As swift as the wind, Thorfinn flung out his daggers and stood in front of you. Canute did not move a muscle at the men falling, nor did he look up to know who was here to 'save' him next.
People dying and fighting over being the 'escorts' and 'heroes' who have safely returned the prince to his king.
A quick arguement began before it became a full-out betrayal.
Not like Askeladd had not seen it coming.
Quickly he ordered Björn to ride off and bring the prince to safety - with you and Thorfinn on the wagon and tow as well.
The tables have turned and a manpower of over thirty are now after Askeladd's head and the prince's saftey. Feet stomped over the broken wreckage and soon, Thorkell stood before them all.
The bandmates hoped to switch sides and offer Askeladd's life as a token of loyalty. But your heart only gave out at the sight of the giant of a man.
No matter how you felt about Askeladd, the conversations you had with him...you could not forget his attempt at your life and all the things he had done to Thorfinn...you could not charge back down there and help him.
But Thorfinn could and would.
As he let out a scream, you held him back by his shoulders. The wagon was rushing away from the turmoil together with the prince and the priest...and more of the traitors came hunting you down on their horses.
"It's foolish to go back there! There's Thorkell, Thorkell! Don't you remember what he did to us last time?!"
Though, Thorfinn does not listen. He aimed at the oncoming men and their horses, shooting them down before they could reach you. Sparing one of the animals, he saddled on before yelling back at you. His face contorted in an rage you have never seen before.
"He is MY prey!!!" He shouted back, "You stay here! Kill anyone who tries to come near you!"
It is the first time where the young viking does not prioritize your safety.
As he charged back to the hill below, he shot down the rest coming for the prince - yet in his mind they are coming for you.
Even as they fell, he left you alone with Björn who is easily tempted by madness.
If he hesitates now, his revenge will be lost.
[idk whats up with me today, my english is just....bleh. I really mix up past tense and present dont ask me why.
More of a 'from plot A -> plot B' kind of thing. Not a lot happens unitl then...]

Thorfinn’s brother- Somewhere not here
Fandom: Vinland Saga
Pairing: Thorfinn x OC!brother (platonic only)
Warnings: description of battle, follows the manga, swearing
A/N: i want to give Thorfinn a hug, he needs it :(
They had been walking for hours when they finally came to a stop. A hill that oversaw the Franks battle field below. There was a brief pause in movement before a voice yelled out, "Thorfinn! Bo! You're up!" The two glanced at each other before walking forward to the man who called them.
Thorfinn and Bo were identical twins who, through heaven or hell, never left each other's side. They had shaggy blonde hair, a shorter stature than the average boy their age, but a strong build. The only difference between them was that Bo had blue eyes, taking after their mother, and Thorfinn had light brown eyes, taking after their father. But both boys had a glare that could kill.
When the brothers reached the front of the group they were met with Askeladd. "We're joining in. Send a message to the leader of the attacking army." He instructed. Askeladd was in his 40's with short blonde hair, and deceiving blue eyes. He wore a metal breast plate that he never seemed to take off.
"Listen carefully, this is our message:" Askeladd began, "'Your tactics are pitiful! They are a sigh to make one retch! Therefore, our band of warriors offers its aid. Consider this once in a life time opportunity wisely, for we will surely guide you to victory. All we ask in return is half the spoils of war on the day of the fortress fall. Resume the siege in the morn.'" He wore his classic evil smirk.
'He talked for so long I damn near fell asleep. If this doesn't go well it's his fault.' Bo thought bitterly.
"Once you've given them the message, remain among them and observed the tide of battle. Understood? Now, go." Askeladd finished with a wave of his hand. But Thorfinn and Bo didn't move. "What? I gave you an order." Askeladd said, more demanding this time. "Guarantee a reward for us." Thorfinn argued.
Askeladd knew what they wanted, but he played dumb just to rile them up. "Reward? If the negotiation's a success, you'll each have three gold coins. I swear upon Tyr." Askeladd teased with such seriousness in his voice it almost could have convinced Bo.
The other men whistled in amazement, it was a good price, but Thorfinn and Bo didn't want gold. They had no need for it.
"Who asked for that shit? You know damn well what we want, Askeladd." Bo was annoyed, 'Bastard thinks he can treat us like one of his men.'
"Ooh now that's a scary face! Just a bit of humor, that's all." Askeladd brought his hands up in mock surrender. "But if that's what you want, boys. I'll need you to bring me the head of a commander, at least." He said more seriously.
Sounded easy enough, they had done that hundreds of times before. They glanced at each other again and started running down the hill.
Thorfinn and Bo slowed to a walk as they approached the camp. "Bet none of them speak Norse." Bo said to his twin. "Probably not. What a pain." Thorfinn sighed. 'How annoying.'
When they approached the guards at the front of the fortress, they spoke in Frankish amongst each other. The twins had no clue what they were saying, as they only spoke Norse and bits of English. "We're messengers. Can anyone here speak Norse?" Thorfinn asked the Frankish guards.
They were talking to each other in a suspicious tone. 'Guess they don't speak Norse.' Bo deducted. One of the Frank guards reached for Thorfinn, but he grabbed the guards fingers, twisted his arm over his shoulder and behind his back.
"We're messengers!" Bo said loud enough for the whole camp to hear, his tone growing harsh. "Can anyone here speak Norse!?" He asked again, as Thorfinn had a knife to the guards throats. Finally, someone raised their hand from in the fortress and he became their interpreter.
Bo told him they needed to speak with the general, other Franks just silently stared at Bo and Thorfinn with confused faces. Maybe they were wonder what they were saying, or maybe what kids were doing in this line of work.
The guards confiscated the brothers daggers and tied their hands tightly behind their backs. 'As if these ropes could stop us from doing anything.' Bo thought dully, side eyeing Thorfinn's tied hands, analyzing how, if needed, they could get out of the fortress.
When they saw the general Bo scoffed 'Their general looks like he couldn't even lift a sword. No wonder they can't break into the fortress.'
The commander was a very short, round man, who looked like he could care less about what was happening around him. He was shorter than Bo, which he thought would never happen unless a child stood next to him.
The commander spoke, then the interpreter repeated, "You want half the spoils? Oh, you mercenaries have grown too bold by far. But such boldness implies confidence. Yes, Normanni boys?" The Franks seemed surprised we were Norse.
Thorfinn just spoke to him dully, "Even a boy can see that attacking the main gate alone achieves nothing but the slaughter of your own men. You outnumber the defenders. They're concentrated toward the hillside gate, leaving the lakeside open. That's where we'll strike."
Another man, most likely the commanders right hand man, probably started to talk about how they couldn't do that. The Norse speaking man started to interpret but Bo interrupted. "So you won't accept our offer?" He cocked his head to the side. "Because Askeladd will take his hundred men right to the defenders."
The guards pulled their swords and spears against them, a swords up to Bo's throat, and 2 spears to Thorfinn's.
"The same will happen if we die. If we don't give the all clear signal... you will instantly be up against a hundred hardened warriors of the north." Bo said calmly, like having a sword to his neck was a normal thing. But in ways, it was.
The interpreter spoke after the commander again, "Bah, do as you wish. If your words are false, I will have your head. But if they are good and true, in the name of Jesus Christ, you will have your fair share of the riches." He finished.
"We want our short swords back. They're a memento of our father." Thorfinn asked as they were getting their restraints off. After a moment they reluctantly handed them their knives back. Bo let out an internal sigh of relief. Then the brothers asked for a bow and 4 arrows, then walked up the hill to give the signal that negotiation went according to plan, one high, three low.
Thorfinn and Bo found a tree to sleep on to await the morning. "You fought him last time, so it's my turn." Bo said, fatigue catching up to him. All Bo got in return was a tired, "Yeah, yeah I know."
Years ago when they first joined Askeladd's band they came up with a system as to who would duel Askeladd. They switched off fighting him, one duel Bo fights him, the next duel Thorfinn fights him, then Bo, then Thorfinn, and so on.
When morning came, the Frankish army lined up ready to charge the enemy again. The commander, his second in command, the interpreter, Thorfinn, and Bo walked through the rows of men to get to the front, "Boys! Your friends are no-shows. The sun is out and rising." The commander spoke impatiently.
Bo was tired of the man by now, and he could tell Thorfinn was too. "Just get on with the attack, fat-ass. You'll see soon enough." The Norse interpreter didn't say anything when the commander said something in Frankish back.
But the interpreter didn't have time to say anything as the commander yelled and the army charged forward to try to take the fortress. Thorfinn and Bo looked back and saw birds scattering out of the trees, which ment Askeladd was close, that was also their signal to move out.
Bo turned to the Norse speaker "Hey interpreter, which one's the enemy leader?" He looked shocked that Bo actually spoke to him directly. "Ah, see the one with a feathered helm?" He pointed to a man with red feathers on his helmet, "That's him." That was all the brothers needed to hear before sprinting into the battlefield towards the leader.
Arrows were shot at them but they skillfully dodged them without losing speed. They quickly approached a moat, jumping over the water, and plunged their daggers into the wall to keep them in place.
Arrows lessened and the sound of footsteps frantically running was a sign that Askeladd had arrived and put his plan into action. Bo started to scale the wall first, Thorfinn quickly following. Once they got to the top of the wall Bo slashed the closest man's neck and jumped into combat.
Throrfinn and Bo were back to back, protecting each other, and swiftly making a bloody trail to the leader. One man tried to swing at Bo's head but he ducked below the blade and slashed his knife across the man's chest. Thorfinn grabbed the soilders sword and cut down man after man until he cut the leaders head off.
But unfortunately, the head fell straight into the water below. "Ah, shit!" Thorfinn yelled as he dove into the water to retrieve the head and his reward. "You idiot!" Bo screamed following his brother. Arrows flew past them in the water, luckily none of them hit as they swam for the generals head.
Bo was starting to run out of breath but he had swam faster then Thorfinn, so was he was closer to the head. He stretched out and grabbed the feather and held it with a vice grip as he and Thorfinn swam for the boats. As they were surfacing, Bo threw the head onto the ship and hoisted himself up into the boat, huffing for air.
Once again Thorfinn wasn't far behind him. "Bo, Thorfinn! You're alive?" Someone said, shocked they made it back alive. Bo ignored the people who showed concern, "Askeladd. That was their commander."
"Ohh! So you did get him." Askeladd said with fake enthusiasm. Bo took a deep breath and pulled out one of his father's daggers "We had a deal. You can't back out. I, Bo, son of Thors, warrior of Iceland. Upon my fathers blade, do seek a duel with Askeladd. To avenge my father's death."
Askeladd responded the same as always for the last 10 years, "I, Askeladd, son of Olaf, upon the name of my ancestor Artorious, accept Bo's challenge." There was a pause. "But." Just then arrows came whizzing at the ship, but Bo was unfazed, keeping eye contact with Askeladd. "Not this instant! Right now we've got to fly!" Askeladd yelled as more arrows rained from the fortress. "Man oars, you ugly shits!"
"Damn you!" Bo snarled before walking back to his and Thorfinn's usual spot at the back of the boat. They were coming up to a waterfall and Bo grabbed onto the side railing of the ship as they went down as too not fall out. Askeladd laughed like a mad man the whole way down. 'He's gone insane!' Bo thought, as the harsh wind blew past him.
After both boats made it down the waterfall in one piece, they were home free. Which is coincidentally, was where they were headed. Going home after the season of pillaging for winter.
While sailing to the island, Thorfinn and Bo kept their blades clean and pristine. While on the ship, the two would keep quiet, only quietly speaking to each other every once in a while.
As they got closer to 'homeland', they could see sheep still grazing on the fields. Bo and Thorfinn ignored the men talking, as they continued to erase any evidence of war on their blades with a cloth.
When the boat made it to the harbor, a crowd of people swarmed the dock, all the women screaming Askeladd's name. Bo rolled his eyes, not forgetting the duel Askeladd promised.
Askeladd departed to go to Gorm, the leader of the village. Gorm gave the band of vikings funding and food during their trips, and at the end of the pillaging season Askeladd had to pay Gorm back.
Bo and Thorfinn walked to Gorms house, walking through the crowd of women to get to Askeladd. All Bo needed to do was give him a look to show he was ready. Bo took his fur hood off and handed it to his brother. "Kill him this time." Thorfinn encouraged. Bo just nodded, wanting finally put to an end to this long cycle.
As the duel started, people gathered in a large circle surrounding Bo and Askeladd. "Ahem! We gather here in the name of the almighty Odin to observe this duel between Bo and Askeladd. The grounds for this duel being... Bo's desire to avenge his father's death." Gorm, spoke loud enough for everyone to hear. " Are there any objections from either party?" He asked.
"No." Bo's voice was hard as ice, putting his coldest glare on. "None from me." Askeladd spoke nonchalantly, even his stance screamed that he was just waiting for this to be over. And that just pissed the younger boy off more. Bo got into a ready stance as Gorm yelled "Begin!" People started cheering, rooting for whoever they thought would win.
Bo tried to strike his chest multiple times, but all attempts were blocked by Askeladd's sword. Bo swung for his throat, but Askeladd leaned to the side. "You can't humor an old man with just little-" Askeladd made his first attack by swinging at Bo, said boy bringing his blades to cover his chest. "- small talk first?!" Bo knew how strong his opponent was so this blow could be deadly, so to soften the blow he jumped away at the same time as the swing of the sword.
The crowd was going wild, more people yelling for the shorter boy now. Bo let out a breath and ran toward the other again. Bo's right hand aiming for the middle of Askeladd's blade, his left hand aiming for the handle. Hopefully to knock it out of his hand. Bo was successful in getting the sword out of his enemies grasp, but Askeladd reached for Bo's arms. All hope of killing Askeladd was gone.
In response Bo leaped back, cursing himself for the loss of opportunity. His opponent retrieved his sword and stood ready once again. "About your old man, Bo... er... um... oh, damn... what was his name? Tho, Thooo... Thork...?" Askeladd asked, know how to pushing all of Bo's buttons.
"Thors!" Bo yelled angrily. Askeladd knew he had him now. "Thors! Right, that was it. My memory isn't what it used to be, sadly. Look I really hate to bring this up during your long awaited bid for vengeance and all. But I've killed more than my share of men, you know? And I just can't remember your father for the life of me." Bo was fuming at this point, he was sure everyone could see steam coming out of his ears.
"Did I really kill this Thorill fellow? How did I kill him?" He asked. Bo had a death grip on his dagger. "You filthy bastard... if you'd fought fair, my father... would never have fallen to the likes of you!" Bo was shaking with rage, gritting his teeth, "If you hadn't taken my brother hostage!" He yelled.
"Ohhh, yes! Now it's coming back. He was the fool who gave up his life in exchange for his sons." Askeladd spoke, pushing Bo's final button.
Bo saw red, blinded by rage and charged the Viking leader. Bo ran with his right arm raised, ready to slice Askeladd's head right off his shoulders. But Askeladd easily caught Bo's arm, kicked one of his legs out from under him, and sent him crashing to the ground, the wind knocked out of him. But Askeladd kept a hold on his arm with an iron grip. Bo grunted in discomfort, his arm being twisted uncomfortably.
"Can't lose control now, can we? You and your brother have got a lot to learn." Askeladd lectured, then snapped Bo's shoulder out of place. Bo gasped as pain the flooded his right shoulder. Bo laid on the ground for a moment before Bjorn, a tall Viking with dark brown hair, braided beard, and a helmet always adorned his head, came over to help Bo pop his shoulder back in place.
Bjorn didn't give any kind of warning, just quickly twisting Bo's arm to put the shoulder back in place, then walked away. Thorfinn helped Bo up and they walked away from the crowd to their fathers boat. After loosing duels they would sit on the boat all night, no matter the weather.
This night in particular it snowed. They shared body heat under a single blanket, since that's all they could find, and just quietly, enjoying each other's company. Bo made sure Thorfinn had enough of the blanket to stay warm, not wanting Thorfinn to catch a cold. Everyone else was celebrating the pillaging season, but the brothers wanted nothing to do with it.
They eurent here to celebrate, or raid villages. They were there to kill Askeladd. Kill the bastard who took their father, despite him winning the duel. Askeladd was nothing but a dirty cheater.
Bo glanced at his brother, only to see him asleep, looking peaceful for once. He was so close to joining his younger twin in the land of sleep when he heard his father's voice, "You're sulking. Did you lose again, Bo?"
"Father..." Suddenly Bo wasn't a 17 year old, hardent by war and driven by revenge. Instead he was a 6 year old kid again, scared of his father being angry with him. Hot tears were suddenly falling down his face, he missed his father so much it hurt sometimes.
"Nyah! Look at the little crybaby!" Thors teased, putting his big hand on Bo's head. "Are you angry, squirt? Do you want revenge?" Thors spoke with more seriousness, there was no hint of joking or teasing in his voice anymore. And that honestly scared Bo.
Bo tearfully nodded. "Hmmm... Well, you are my son. I suppose it won't do any good to tell you not to seek vengeance. Oh dear... how should I put this? You'll have to find out for yourself... what it means to be a warrior." Thors voice faded into the cold wind.
Bo woke with a start and pulled out his dagger and held it against a woman's throat, Thorfinn, who also woke up, held his dagger defensively.
She fell back in surprised and nervously stammered. "Ah... umm... L- lord Gorm told me to bring you both food." She had a basket previously filled with food, that was now spread over the dock. After picking up the food she handed them the food filled basket.
The two boys immediately started to scarf down the food. Even though Bo was hungry, he still gave Thorfinn extra food.
"Hey," the woman spoke shyly. "Are you slaves too?" Bo shot her a questioning look. "I mean, you're eating out here." She clarified. "We're free warriors. We're not forced to eat scrape in the kitchen, like you. We eat here because we choose to." Bo answered.
"Oh... really? It's strange. I just thought we seemed similar." She genuinely looked surprised to learn they weren't slaves.
"We have nothing in common with you! We wouldn't know how a slave thinks! If I were you, I'd kill Gorm and run! And kill any man who came after me!" Thorfinn yelled, taking a swing of water.
"How awful. I couldn't kill." She looked down with an almost shameful look. "Hah! Then enjoy life as a slave. It's your choice." Thorfinn mockingly laughed.
But suddenly her mood changed, matching the darkness outside, "If I ran... if I ran as far as I could. All the way across there sea, what would I find there? If there were a land across the horizon, a land without war or slaves. If there were a land of peace... somewhere that's not here."
'Somewhere that's not here?' Bo thought solemnly. He thought of a place told in a story he heard years ago.
A place that brought him ten years in the past

Finally.
After days of using his silver tongue, Askeladd was finally able to make his move on the village maiden that had caught his eye. Sweet and a bit shy, his favorite combination with a sweet body and even sweeter face had the Viking week in the knees.
The “Sit beside me Askeladd.”
Had Askeladd smirking with pride inside the local tavern as he sat beside his interest quick, placing his arm around her shoulders pulling her close to him making her smile that sweet smile of hers. It is true that other local women wanted Askeladd but the viking only had his interest in her.
Between chatting Askeladd had a few thought of taking the sweet woman somewhere private and making love to her all night long, but having conversation was just as nice.
“So, you don’t have any kids right?”
“Hm? No, no. I don’t have any kids. Don’t like brats.”
“But don’t you have-“
“Hey! Askeladd!”
Askeladd mentally cursed at hearing Thorfinn’s angry voice, Askeladd’s crew turned their attention to to Thorfinn who had a angry look on his face. (Name) noticed the boy’s hair was a mess, a comb would do wonders.
“Fight me, Askeladd.”
Askeladd’s crew heard Thorfinn’s demands for a fight again, some made “ooo” noises and some said “not again. Askeladd didn’t want any part of it as he had other plans that night, and it didn’t involve Thorfinn.
“Not now, I’m busy with other things. Can’t you play with someone else?”
Askeladd was rather smug about turning down Thorfinn only inciting Thorfinn’s anger, Thorfinn wanted his rematch. Looking closer, he noticed Askeladd’s arm wrapped around (Name)’s shoulders.
“…I see you’ve decided to play with another village girl. The last one told me you have boils down there.”
The tavern was silent, even Askeladd’s crew.
Askeladd for once in his life was taken back but then the viking called Thorfinn crazy and stating that wasn’t true only to notice (Name) was scooting away from him. Deciding to add gas to the flame Thorfinn kept telling (Name) that Askeladd had an infamous record of sleeping around and waking up “itchy.” Until eventually (Name) politely excused herself leaving the tavern despite Askeladd denying that Thorfinn was lying.
Unfortunately, the damage had already been done.
Thorfinn’s victory was short lived as he lost the match, resulting in Askeladd telling Thorfinn to say that he lied. But Thorfinn wouldn’t do it, only making Askeladd even angrier. Thinking to himself he should deep inside (Name)’s cunt right now, but this damn brat ruined that chance.
So, to make up for it Askeladd took Thorfinn’s daggers and wouldn’t give them back until he confessed to his beloved (Name). Thorfinn wanted his daggers back more than anything and so instead Thorfinn agreed to do so.
Of course, Askeladd dragged Thorfinn by the ear and waited for the teenager to confess to his sweet (Name) who was currently at home wondering what was going on.
“I… I’m here to say.. that Askeladd doesn’t itch and that he doesnt go around sleeping with everyone.”
Askeladd could tell Thorfinn wasn’t being sincere in the slightest, thinking to himself it was the most bullshit apology he had ever heard in his life. Still, a deal was a deal and Askeladd handed over the daggers.
“Oh, so it was all a lie? Well, I’m glad that was a lie.”
“I know right, he’s such a child. Someone should teach him some manners, (Name).”
Askeladd agreed with (Name) slyly adding in his comment as he was still wanting (Name) more than anything only to hear Thorfinn speak again.
“Yes, I’m actually his son.”
Askeladd slowly turned to Thorfinn with the most terrifying glare wanting nothing more than throw the teenager into the ocean and to be rid of him while Thorfinn stood there smirking with his daggers.
“Oh goodness, look at the time. I better make dinner, you two have a nice day.”
With that, Before Askeladd could plead his case (Name) shut the door in his face making Askeladd mutter, “Fuck, fuck” over and over again as he knocked on the door completely stunned she believed Thorfinn.
A few days later, Askeladd had left the village in tears almost as he sat on his ship sighing and pissed off.
It just wasn’t fair.
Askeladd knew (Name) was a one in a million woman and Thorfinn messed up that chance.
Bjorn noticed Askeladd was in a bad mood as he looked over to see Thorfinn had a red mark on his forehead and a bloody nose that he was taking care of.
“If it helps Askeladd, we can always come back.”
“Yeah boss! And maybe there’s a girl in the next village that can ease your broken heart-“
“I only want (Name). She was perfect, I could have made her experience things-“
“Not with your old ass, you’d give up within two minutes.”
Once again, Thorfinn had put in a input that made Askeladd want him to throw him over board but he was useful in fighting so that wasn’t option.
“You’re such a child.”
Askeladd sulked for the next three weeks as he always had (Name) on his mind, still somewhere deep down he had plans on going back and seeing her.
Without Thorfinn.
