Possible new AU…
I’d like peoples thoughts on it. I did a one shot in the AU called the Lady and the Artist… so just looking to maybe expand it and this is the start of it…
No idea what it’ll be called just looking for feedback…
The Ton was a branch of the British Government that completed missions that even MI5 didn’t go near, a branch of elite Secret Agents, Spies, people with normal every day jobs but when called upon, would carry out missions that were of the utmost importance, national and international security, saving diplomats, saving royals… things where the government couldn’t be seeing to get involved.
It was run by Agatha Danbury, she’d been known as the Countess when she had been active but now, as the head of the Ton, she was referred to as D or Lady D and she had various agents that were scattered across the country but her biggest and best were the Bridgerton family.
She’d worked with Violet and Edmund back in the day, she’d been on the mission with Edmund when it had gone horribly wrong, they’d fallen in a trap, Edmund had gotten shot and she’d not been able to save him but now she was able to protect Violet’s children.
Violet had retired after Edmund passed to look after their children but Anthony who had been 17 at the time had joined the cause and started training and one by one the Bridgerton’s had been integrated into the Ton.
Anthony took over his father’s old name as The Viscount. Benedict became the Artist, Colin was Joker, Daphne was the Duchess and worked with her husband Simon who was the Duke.
But for Agatha, her most prized Secret Agent was Lady Penwood, Sophie Gunningworth-Beckett, the former Lord Penwood’s daughter had turned out to be better than she’d ever anticipated.
Not only was she small and able to get into places and blend in, she was an incredible hacker. She seemed to have both of her parents skills, La Dame had been her mother, she’d joined as a French Liaison officer and was one of the best at blending in, her range of languages, her range of accents, her ability to be in and out of a place, to be neither seen nor heard, to blend in… but be memorable during an undercover event so that suspicion was never on her.
Agatha had always thought she should be called the Chameleon but when she’d seen her fight, in a dress that should have made it impossible and she understood.
Richard Gunningworth had met Esme Beckett that night. Richard was an accountant by trade, he saw logic, he saw ways through difficult situations and was one of the first world renowned hackers.
And when Agatha had met 16 year old Sophie at her mother and father’s funeral, she saw the possibilities with the young girl and she became the youngest person ever to be trained by the ton.
She’d been unbelievable and of Agatha’s best assets.
When Sophie wasn’t working for the ton she ran a cafe, she literally blended into society and to look at her, you’d not think she was a secret agent by night.
Sophie usually worked alone, she preferred it that way, she’d seen and heard about what having a partner could cost, the problems that could happen, so she preferred to work alone.
That was how she’d worked and she lived and that was all Sophie knew.
She’d known that her mother was La Dame, she knew her father was Lord Penwood, she knew her parents would disappear with moments notice, they would go together and she was left with Ann Gibbons but now at 16
Sophie's mother had been ambushed on a job, her father hadn’t been there, it was one of the few jobs that she’d done alone since they had Sophie. Her partner for the day, who had been on the take, had sold them out. Esme had been caught and taken hostage.
Richard had been wild, angry and hellbent on revenge, he’d kissed his daughter, told her he loved her and set off to find her mother, vowing to do whatever it took to bring her home.
Sophie hadn’t expected them both to come back in body bags.
Sophie hadn’t been allowed to see the bodies, they’d been mangled. It had been the Viscount and Viscountess who had been the ones to get in there and rescue the situation, and bring back Sophie’s parents.
Sophie had no idea at the time that it had been the Bridgerton’s that had rescued her parents; she learned that several years later.
Sophie loved her work though, she’d been wary about joining the ton but Agatha had shown her the work that they did, the work her parents had done over the years, the work the organisation had done.
She’d explained about how they worked with code names and they didn’t know who the others work outside of the organisation, they didn’t share their real names, they didn’t know who they were outside to avoid any issues like they’d had in the past.
